He's like a renegade folk hero. He's irreverent and unprofessional, but he's very intelligent, and he knows his stuff. However, if you don't read the out-of-class material as well as go to the lectures, you will FAIL.

I took his gen ed hst 101 class and although i found it challenging i still enjoyed it. he may seem mean but he grades fairly and all you have to do is show up and read the material and its easy as hell. one of my favorite teachers at ou. he really knows his stuff.

This guy is hilarious!! His lectures are entertaining and he has an interesting sense of humor. His class seems easy enough though the readings are quite boring. Go to class because if you don't you'll miss all the stuff that is not in the textbook.

a revelation. the most articulate and challenging teacher I have ever had. At a school of less than motivated students some hate his classes because he does not coddle anyone. Others, like me, have a life changing experience. Never lectures from the book and why should he? You must do your stuff

Moran is a great teacher, anyone who whines about his classes should NOT be a history major. You HST 100 people are babies, try one of his 300 level classes. VERY EASY class. You'll only need the books to write your midterm/final. He will get off topic during lectures.

I learned more things, about more kind of things than in any other course I have ever taken. This guys knowledge base is incredible, his ease and humor a delight, I wish he taught my lit classes.

I am an engineering major and none too happy about having to take history. This guy was amazing, enterainting, informative, etc. The guy is a folk rebel, a soul searcher who gets you to question what is all about. Nothing like I thought and thank goodness.

I liked this teacher. The atmosphere of the class was good, he's entertaining, informative and expresses himself well. Granted he is a hard grader, but there was ONLY 2 papers due...small work load.

Dont take Moran if you are a freshman. HST 102 involves alot of reading that is difficult to connect with his winding, sometimes strange lectures. Moran will offer guidance to those who approach him.

EXTREMELY ARROGANT. If you can make it past that fact and you don't mind tough grading, you'll get a good deal of knowledge from his course. Overall I enjoyed the class. Despite what he says, he will read from notes which is where the lecture breaks down. It's hard to follow as he tries to connect his notes to the direction the lecture had taken.

Interesting lecturer. Concerned about students. Came up to me when my grade was worse than what he expected of me and set a time to talk about the test. Will try to help if you try too. Very fair grading, but the class itself is not a walk in the park. only grades are 3 tests including final. two tests with two essays, final with one essay.

Professor Moran has a wealth of historic knowledege and is a fair grader, but his grade is dependent on only 2 papers. Furthermore, he ALMOST NEVER COMES TO CLASS!!! He averages one class per week, and in a 10-11:45am class he released his classes at about 10:50. Good lectures, but SHORT! I do not feel like I got my money's worth.Books are Shat.

smart, easygoing, tolerant and clear. funny and wise. have no idea what the previous two evaluators are thinking except there were many in this class who put forth little effort. He was concise and faiir and did not waste my time.

This professor is one you either like or hate, you either understand him or you don't... I liked him a lot. He is a great lecturer, very unpredictable in his lecture, and made me laugh nearly every class. He is a tough grader but not impossible! I would take him again if I could.

Hst 341, got 3.2, spring 07, he skipped out on 2 classes, he grades fairly, take good notes, be aware he never lectured on any of the assigned readings, nor did I read any of the assigned readings, be able to infuse his opinions in your papers, take advatage of his 1:1 session, he assigned 400.00/books, concentrate on the papers from day 1.

I dropped too but it was more me than the prof. very funny but is demanding. would take again when have more time.

I really love this guy, he knows his stuff. Every class he would inform us a little bit about the news, and usually he told a joke or two. Hes one of those teachers who will give the class a break from note taking to listen to a funny personal story. He talks more about the ideas and concepts of time than actual events. Tough class; pretty brilliant prof. He doesn't give much guidance on the essay questions but gives you a lot of room in interpreting them. I think he just wants you to think for yourself, which is not a bad thing. Key: remember that this is a history class, not a philosophy class. If you need help; ask & you'll receive. Not for slackers though.

I came into it expecting the worst and was pleasantly surprised. Moran was helpful, knowledgeable, and fair about grading. His class is difficult, but only if you choose to make it so. He doesn't always cover everything in his lecture, but he assigns texts to cover those gaps. Basically, if you hate being a good student, don't go to college...

A lot of people seem to feel he's got an attitude problem. They're probably right. But he's likely my favourite professor at Oakland by virtue of the attitude problem. His classes are completely worth it - just be aware he has no measures in place to judge whether students understand the material other than a few papers. Write well.

Not an easy class but the man knows his material and, if you can handle strong opinions, entertains at the same time he teaches. Essay exams require you read the material and know the lecture stuff cold. There were a number of people in the class who made little effort and I think paid for it. He is funny and very smart.

the single most challenging and thought provoking class I have had. It is not easy, but then, should it be? entertaining, surprising, opinionated. Had him before and loved the class. there is no middle ground on this teacher.

imaginative lecturer. put your thinking hat on. as much a philosophy class as a history one and some background in philosophy would probably help. very smart guy

a lot of work in a summer course. lectures almost exclusvly, a movie or two, funny and arrogant and intellectually demanding. was very helpful to me but some others found him intimidating. you cannot expect a grade here, he makes you prove it.

this prof is controversial and his evaluations show it. If you don't read the material you will pay as the essays require you demonstrate you did the reading. More than that you have to think. I liked the class but it was not easy, especially for a summer course. He is sarcastic and funny but not everyone gets it.

I am a history major and many a student in my program (esp. those who want only US history) are intimidated by this guy. He is demanding, the course is a wild ride on the history of Europe unlike anything else here. He takes no prisoners but really, the hype is worse than his bite, he's funny, available, thought provoking and controversial.

This was not easy but I learned a lot. Few profs here stand out. He does and how and there is no middle ground on him. he is funny, passionate, arrogant, intimidating, charming, touching, overwhelming, and to those who don't get it boring. you had to be there.

He is not disorganized and lectures mostly without referring to notes. It is a hard class I suppose but he really knows his subject. He doesn't talk about the books but you have to know them to pass the demanding take home exams. It was entertaining to say the least.

I've had this professor 2x, would take him again. So what if he is opinionated,he is entitled to his opinions. Plus, I'm pretty sure he is smarter than you are, so maybe his opinions are right. I learned a lot in his classes, but mostly I learned how to be a better writer. You quit being a history major after taking him? Good call.

He is certainly dedicated to students. He was seriously ill and yet committed himself fully to the class. This was a grad course and he was helpful, flexible, deeply knowledgeable, and encouraging. I learned a great deal and plan to take more classes with him. He is also funny, self-deprecating, and an original.

He was going through cancer treatment during the semester and missed only two classes. very dedicated. I liked that he made us see him in his office, once I did he was no longer intimidating. I am taking him again.

Loved this class and I was not alone. He is smart and funny and intense. Its kind of a whirlwind with all kinds of tangents and connections to different subjects. Was warned away by another professor but I am glad I took him.

He is one of my favorite college professors. He is really funny and shares a lot of good stories. In my class he only had 4 assignments which were papers but he was reasonable. I thought he did a great job.

Great class

Each class is a lecture the entire time, which are full of information. I took about 60 pages of notes, but he knew a ton and went into great detail. The readings were interesting and papers were very doable. As long as you pay attention and complete the work you will be fine. He's cares about what he teaches and gives great insight.

Took for HST 3330 and 3430. Clearly very educated and passionate on subjects. Intimidating and hard to reach online. Asks students to print out papers instead of turning them in digitally. Class consists exclusively of lectures, he talks pretty fast. Need books for essays, but some can be found online. Very funny and extremely interesting.

Lecture heavy but he is a great lecturer. This is my second clas with him. These were my favorite classes ever.
