This teacher(Pommas)is very hard,he doesn't use books, outlines or something like that.He want the student to be in his class everyday taking notes. If you do not take good notes ,you would not pass the test.Tests r confusing, trickys,he give the lectures so fast, his pronunciation is not clear, not flexible, doesn't follow the sylabus.don't take it w hi

he's really hard!!! and hez not use the text.. so itz kinda hard to understand what he was talking about!!!
you better take another teacher if you need to take biology 1...
He's not that hard if you take good lecture notes. He relates the subjects to what we do in our daily lives so, makes it easier to understand. He's very helpful and his labs are fun/interesting. I used to hate Bio but after taking his class, I began to enjoy the subject. If there's one bad thing, it's that his tests are a bit tricky at times.
There should not be any complaints about this professor because he is very helpful, knows what he is talking about and lectures in a very interesting way. I think he is one of the best Biology teachers in this college.
Very interesting professor, his tests are on his lectures and nothing else. If you study your notes thoroughly, you should have no problem getting A's. I plan to take him next semester for Bio 06.
Success in this class depends on your attendance & how well you take notes. The text book doesn't help much since the test are from the lectures. Problem is the lectures are rushed & the terms & information given are sometimes overwhelming. Test are scantron & difficult if you don't study. The teacher is pretty funny at times but strict on test.
Very good professor. It can be a hard if the you are not good @ taking notes, but if you are you have at least a B. I really enjoyed his class. Funny guy.
i juss want to telling you! DON'T TAKE HIM EVER AND EVER!!!
If you are a good note taker in his class, you will do fine in his class. Just go to the class everyday.
he supposedly gives tests from his lecture notes, but the half of the test is from somewhere else. Worse teacher ever. So confusing and discriminating.
nice, intelligent professor, makes smart jokes, helpfull just need to ask he'll explain 100times wo complaining.interesting & fun labs, multiple choice exams can be confusing but do all your labs & you'll make it up for lecture exams.gives extra credit. TAKE NOTES! 90% is from his notes,if you judge his teaching than there's something wrong with YOU
he is a jerck!!!! the only reason that people are taking him is because there are no other biology 6 or 7 teachers at the stupid college!
he's really good and friendly. he's strict but in a good way. most of the exams are from the notes but you have to be very careful and fast on writing most of his lecture. it's easy! he gives extra credit and the lab is really fun and you actually learn.
idiot
He's easy because all of his exams are from his lectures. So don't buy the book. HOWEVER, sometimes it seems like he has NO idea what he's teaching and just reads off the powerpoint slides from other schools/professors that he found on the web or something. The labs are very easy and the field trips are fun too.
I am just glad i dont have to see him ever again HORRIBLE!!! Made me dislike bio and i LOVED bio. Discrace to the title of professor. Doesnt even deserve to be on the this website (ratemyprofessors). He would on the otherhand be a good P.E. teacher, i would give him a good rating there.
To take him is to know FRUSTRATION.
He's a pretty nice guy, but his exams are tricky. The half of the questions are not from his notes.Take the notes, but also read the book.
This was the best class I have ever taken at LACC. He is very clear, only gives you the notes that you need. His tests are a little bit hard, but there is a lot of extra credit you can do. Dont miss his labs because they are very important. Its impossible to not pass his class. Take him! He is great!
do not take his classes!!!he is unclear, unhelpful, and doesn't know what he is talking about. he may say one thing and prove himself wrong.
I can agree with a lot of students about his test and lectures. Many of the answers are not in the lectures he gives. However, He was a very pleasant person to be around. He does go really fast on his lectures. You need to take good notes. Field trips are fun and so are his labs.
He is the greatest teacher. He is fair on his grading, depending if you take advantage of his extra credit opportunities. He is a very understanding and a helpful person. He wants you to succeed in his class and he is always there to give you advice. His exams may be a little difficult but if you studied you should know the answers.Labs are very fun.
He is the worst teacher I have ever had! Do not take him I gaurantee you will regret it. He's unintelligent and shows preferential treatment to certain students than others. Also his tests are never on what was lectured. He needs to leave Los Angeles City College!
If you are a fast learner and can visually recall his lectures, than this class is an easy A. I don't understand how many students complain that his exams do not including what was on the lecture, because I never bought a book and used only used notes, with the exception of one time. I am also a high school student who took this class.
this professor is the best.his tests are kind of hard but u will be ok as long as u study his notes and analyze the questions. we get to visit different cool places, that helps a lot since we are studying ecology. i just love the teacher and i would recomend it to anybody who loves to learn new things.
He is the worst teacher at LACC! Do not take him. I assure you will regret it!
He knows the subject well but has trouble being clear in class. He is constantly testing, quizzing and field tripping so be prepared to work. He is a nice person, but this can be a challenging class to get through if you aren't on top of things.
I really enjoyed his class because he is so clear on such a difficult subject. Honestly, just listen to the lecture, and I know the notes can be overwhelming, but he keeps you so interested. He is very intelligent and teaches students material that will be used in bio and in life. If you are pre-med he gives you great advice. Take him!!!
Dude, I cant believe prof got so many bad ratings. He is great at teaching bio. I have never learned so much in one class as I have learned in this class. You HAVE to work and cant slack off, but it is worth it in the end b.c. u learn so much from the class. He answers any question u have and is a very nice person!
He's really good at teaching. (easier to understand) Attendance is not mandatory but you shouldn't miss his lecture to get an A. Test is pretty hard, but I like how he teaches.
He is the worst teacher I have ever taken. I warn all students not to take his class!
Poor teacher. Very poor teaching skills, awful grading, useless notes. All around BAD!
Very very difficult.........
If you care about your GPA, then don't take his class...
Worst teacher ever! Does not test on materials covered. He takes joy in giving out poor grades. If you want a chance at an "A" this is the wrong class for you. He blames the students for his ridiculously poor teaching. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
I took winter session w/this professor. He was very realistic abt what he could get done in this short period of time & was always super clear about what we needed to know for the tests. He is very organized & expects his lab to be clean, which I really appreciated. He is very nice & his lectures are super clear. I definitely recommend this prof.
I learned a lot from professor, but my grade was NOT what I expected in the class. I was getting an A all throughout the semester and I ended up with a C. Don't get me wrong, I don't think I did too well on the final, but 2 letter grades is a big deal. All I have to say is keep track of your grade bc if he doesnt like u..ur in BEEEG TWOUBLE!
While his lectures are very well organized, and good to understand, it is his personality and attitude to students that I can't stend at this guy. Don't trust him if he says that only the leacture notes are enough for you to pass; don't trust him if he said that certain material wont be on test and then it shows up. Very sleezy man!!!
EASY COURSE AS LONG AS YOU TAKE NOTES. DIDN'T REQUIRE TO PURCHASE BOOK, SO HE'S DEFINITELY A STUDENT'S PROF. RECOMMEND HIGHLY.
This is not a hard class, but there's a lot of busy work that can set back your grade if you don't turn in all your assignments. Tests are fair if you study, but he does tend to pick favorites, so don't get on his bad side!
Horrible teaching ability. Does not care if the student learns anything, just as loing as he is on track nothing else matters. Doesn't not care if you are ill or if there are family issues. He will not let you make up any test. Just because he comes off as nice in the first week, doesn't mean he is. Overall hated him and the class. He should not teac
Biased, unknowledgable, responsible, hates when he is corrected. Upon being asked a challenging question , he often replies "we don't know"
just bad, goes 100 miles per hour with slides, picks favorites, up and down personality go to Valley College!
Excellent teacher. Pay attention to your notes and enjoy the field trips. He is really clear as to what is required to excel in the class.
I happen to think hes a good teacher! If you just take good notes and listen, ask questions, you will pass. He may have an up and down personality but that's beside the point. Only flaw I see is that he seems his job as a paycheck and nothing more. Give credit where credit is earned, he's good! Don't miss his class,he goes over so much in one lectu
This prof will make you work for your grade but in the process you will feel prepared and capable understanding biology. Its not an easy class and still interesting. Lots of lab work is required as well as studying. The prof is fair, approachable, and respectful, although he is strict on timing. I would recommend this prof for serious students.
Good professor. Lots of info, but if you take the time to study, then you should do well.
Good teacher, lots of points to earn and extra credit, no homework, easy quizzes and fairly straightforward tests and practicals. Lots of field trips though, so be prepared for a lot of driving. Labs were pretty fun too.
Very good professor. You have to be on time and enjoy field trips, but you will learn in his class. He makes sure that you understand biology in a way that matters to students.
alot of info to learn, need to study alot to pass, open note quizzes, test are tricky, gives xtra credit at least 2x,drops lowest score,i did bad on the test and i passed with a C. dont need book, with notes is enough.lab work helps alot on ur grade
The tests are fair but tricky, reading the book helps a lot. However, his grading is very unfair, don't be surprised if you get A's and and up with a B, and a student failing all the tests ends up with a B too. Makes sure you keep up all your scored. If he likes you you be fine, if no drop the class,.
His exams are hard, so you need to pay close attention to the questions. He is encouraging, and a wonderful professor. Just don't be late for his lab classes, and the field trips :)
He is very encouraging teacher. u might need to take some time and read book to completely understand the lecture notes. i would recommend this prof if you want to learn something
This professor is a joke. All the people who leave a positive comment are the ones who get B's and C's. It's easy to pass a class. No need to study hard, at the end everyone gets a B. I just missed a few points from getting an A and got a B in both Bio 6 and 7, but others who got all D's and C's on the test also ended up with a B.
Very rude and picky. I raised my hand just a few times when he was done talking, and made eye contact with him, but he just ignored me EVERY TIME. I went up to ask him something about a quiz, and he answered me with "What do you think?" You have to study a LOT of notes to pass his tests, and even so, they are really tricky.
WOW! Some of these reviews are very surprising. I feel Phommasaysy is 1 of the most laidback, easy going professors around & slightly funny. Lectures are clear, LOTS of notes but he tells u which info u don't need to write. No book needed. You can ask ?? any time & he doesn't give attitude. No HW except unfinished lab stuff. OPEN NOTE quizzes.
Class was very well taught, teacher knows subject matter very well. Students cannot be late, unattentive; however, we learn better with that expectation. Some questions on tests are unexpected, but overall he tells us what is important on the tests. If you put in the work and read the book, you should do well. Don't miss class or be late.
A lot of notes, lecture and lab quizzes. He is very nice, so don't be afraid to ask him a question or help during/after/before class! He gave us plenty of extra credit opportunities. His actual exams were difficult, so going to class, listening, taking notes, & studying is essential for passing his class! All in all a great professor & great class~
Tip: Don’t get the book! Buying the textbook was the biggest waste of my money. People who did well in my class did NOT get the book; they just took photos of his lecture slides. He refuses to post his lecture slides so you better get your iPhone ready.
To do well for his exams, you should enroll in test-prep class, because there are so many tricky questions. To do well on a lab exam is impossible because he nitpicks everything; knowing the material is not good enough, you have to give the dictionary definition to him. he is curt to timid students, preferring to help only the outgoing ones.
He is a great lecturer. All his lectures are funny, interesting, and includes the latest biological research info. His exams are difficult. Be prepared for your GPA to drop.
This is my first rating ever. i wanted to warn anyone taking his class because i would want to be warned. he is a horrible teacher! he could care less how you do in his class, insensitive, puts questions on exams he never went over, he doesnt answer questions after class. i have no idea why he is even a teacher! BE PREPARED FOR YOUR GPA TO DROP!
Very straightforward. Lab attendance is mandatory with points being docked off for being late. Lecture quiz are open note and exam questions come directly from his lectures. Easy to pass, but hard to obtain the "A" without trying. He drops multiple quizzes and replaces the lowest lecture exam with the final.
I enjoyed every single lecture in this class and I would like to tell a big THANK YOU for a gift of knowledge I got. This was an amazing winter class. One of the best science Professor. If you really want to learn, I will highly recommend him.
He is by far the best science professor I have had. He is extremely helpful and really cares for his students. He understand that this is tough material and delivers it in a straight forward manner! He makes you want to learn, and doesn't make you feel bad if you didn't do your best. More teachers should be like his! I'm sad the class is over!
Took him for two semesters. Definitely a great lecturer but that "A" grade is very hard to obtain. You can easily get a B but you'll be sitting at that 88-89% grade all throughout the semester. And if you have a habit of being late 5 minutes then forget about it. You just lost almost half of the points earned in a day through quizzes and lab.
Having taken biology prior elsewhere I must say his class was definitely not hard. He picks his exam problems mainly from the txtbook's testbank.. mostly the older eds. Quizzes and lab exams are expected from a biology class and there is no surprise there if u've studied the notes, testbank and quizlet. Getting an A was not so hard.
He's a great professor and lab instructor. He knows the material very well and his lectures are extremely clear. He made the material fun and interesting every lecture. But even with the extra credit, I didn't get an A and I worked extremely hard. His exams are unfairly difficult. But you will learn the material well if you pay attention.
The class was tolerable. What you have to do is just study regulary and focus reading the book for first 2 exam and for 3rd exam, just reading slides were enough to get an A. For final exam, you do need to study both book and slides. Some of my friend told me that this class was more intense than biological classes at uc. Overall, Take this class.
Good lecturer, really nice guy, but tests are GPA-killers, lots of stuff not covered in lecture. Lectures go too fast to take good notes, but he refuses to give PPT's of the lecture and instead makes you take pix of the slides, meaning you're fumbling with your camera instead of listening. Seriously the dumbest note-taking format I've ever seen.
I took him for winter class. IT WAS HARD. dont take M.B. as a hybrid. too much info. I studied and studied and received a C. His test kills your grade. even though you study, his questions will get you off guard. lecture notes are never given to you, you have to take pictures of it. stupid. dont recommend him.
I took this class to satisfy my Gen. Bio. req. for grad. school. That said, I only rec. taking this class IF u need to satisfy GENBIO requirement to transfer/attend grad school. Helpful tips - RECORD lectures, compare it to your notes, & if time permits - read the book. There are 3 exams, 1 final (lowest is dropped), quiz almost every mtg. G'luck!
Really nice professor. I would totally take him again. Very fair and assignments aren't too hard. Gives enough time to turn in assignments. I only had him as my lab instructor. Lab part of this course was fun and pretty easy. Do your lab write-ups every week. Don't wait until the end. Answers online on quizlet.
No! His lectures and lab are akin to remedial high school biology. His tests are unbelievably hard. No!
Sweet, caring, and fun but then very offensive and rude at times! His test questions are unbelievably tougher than need be. Wish I had a tutor from the beginning! I studied every single night, met with him after class, met with the free tutor on campus that was provided later in the semester, and still got a 67. Did all extra credit.
-Not for serious students who are really seeking to learn. He teaches students to be great followers. Calls himself a biologist but hardly knows any chemistry. He talks about money quite often. I'm not being negative in any way here, I'm just saying how I feel. Also, he is very selective. Tests are way harder than his lectures, way too much.
He is a great instructor, he knows his material very well but can be really strict when it comes to grading. All exam are extremely tricky and for your final don't expect his slides to be very accurate compare to the hard exams. Most of the time you know 75%of the question and that one topic he had never mention will take you off tract. Up to E
He needs to step up his game because this class doesn't prepare you for higher level Bio classes in a 4yr-university. Multiple choice exams? LOL. very high school. Take Bio somewhere else and actually learn the material. He tries to be funny but he's just rude most of the times!
The class is not hard, just lot of busy work. Good lecturer. Problem is his strict note taking format. Refuses to post his slides and moves fast so you better get your phones ready. Meaning you're more focused on catching up, taking pics than listening. Tests are very specific. He'll pull the smallest detail from the lecture and put it on the test.
I would never take this professor ever again. His lectures are based on slides and you have to take pictures of them while he's lecturing. He's very rude and he expects us to know the material well as him. His exams are extremely tough. Just don't take him. I took him because I was out of option but man I made a HUGE mistake.
You don't really learn anything in his class. He gives you a TON of busy work. and by busy work I mean assignments that take no brain power at all but still require you to dedicate countless hours to get it done. At the end of the semester only a handful of students get an A and the rest get B's. Virtually impossible to get an A in this class
Growing and analyzing cultures in lab was a lot of fun. I felt that his instructions and expectations were clear. He doesn't post slides and some test questions are very specific. I took pictures of slides and would type them up to study. If you have a question on a test, ask. He's very reasonable if you talk with him. Attendance is REQUIRED!
Makes you take pictures of his slides. Arrogant and seems to hope his students dont pass. I expect to get an A but dont feel happy about it because this class made me truly realize its jot about learning the material but beating the system.
There's so many quizzes! Every single lab and tons in the class too. Hard to keep up with the material. The tests are way harder than all the other assignments, so it's a bit of a surprise on the first exam. I felt all over the place with the way the class was organized. I wouldn't recommend this professor if you have another option.
Going into medicine? He's your guy. That said he is BRUTALLY and unrealistically difficult. No book needed, but you have to take pictures of his slides (seriously... lol). Even if you memorized the slides, you can still FAIL his tests because you MUST have complete MASTERY of the subject matter. I do NOT recommend taking this prof. At all
I took both 6 and 7 with him because he is the ONLY professor on campus that "teaches" this subject. You waste your time going to class. He just reads off the PowerPoint. He refuses to post slides online so you invest your time taking pictures of the slides. When student's asked questions, he paraphrase's lectures... He is rude and condescending.
This professor is jazzed about biology but he's an awful lecturer and does not structure the material in a compelling way. Expect: -5 field trips that involve elementary school worksheets -Weekly brainless multiple choice quizzes that are hard to get full credit on -6 lab+lecture exams either poorly worded by him or directly from the test bank
Quite honestly, hes very condescending. More like an ego thing for him but its really just a community college. Its not the hardest if you read. He lectures a lot of the required syllabus and is only condensending if you ask questions he Doesnt know. If youre a bio/chem/going to be a Dr. is when he talks down to you since hes intimidated.
He's actually a great professor. If you study, there's no problem. So yes, you must work for your grade.
He's okay as a person but exams should be there to test your knowledge not to trick us. He gives unnecessary quizzes when those time should be spent focusing on the real exam. If your students are struggling/failing, shouldn't you be asking yourself, "what am I doing wrong as a professor?" If you truly care for your students success that is.
Great teacher. Brutally honest and sometimes cynical, but super intelligent and a pretty funny guy. Definitely makes you work for it because his tests are on every detail of the lecture materials. He may seem strict but he cares for his students and is willing to improve his teaching based on student feedback. Fun class activities, you learn a lot.
absolutely terrible. Had an A going into final, got a B. grading is a mystery. The syllabus is not gospel. The final replaces your worst test score, but..(in winter he lectured a day before the final). Has an attitude prob bc he wasnt sharp enough to be a doctor. Insecure of anyone with brains who challenges. Dont ask ?s. Avoid like the Plague.
This is not an easy class (especially during the winter session). Get ready to study because youll have to work for your grade from the very beginning. The professor is knowledgeable and likes to include medical concepts in the lectures. I would definitely take this professor again.
Get ready to memorize all the lecture slides. the tests and quizzes are designed to trick students. they all multiple choices but they ALL seems TRUE. Very hard to pick THE CORRECT answers. You really need to know the materials in order to earn good grade in this class. He dont upload lecture slides HAVE to take pictures during lecture. REDICULOUS
Class is designed to filter out dummies. VERY HARD to earn good grade. have to take pictures of his slides because he dont offer online. tests and quizzes are specific and deep. if you are major in premed take him he will be helpful. if not id rather look other easier professor. have to MASTER the materials to EARN good grade in this class.
I took his bio 6 and micro 20. The key to success in his class, I think, is to summarize/flow-chart the lecture, and go over as much as you can. Since all his major exams/quizzes are all multiple choices, it really is about getting used to the materials. It definitely is an easy B; but A for full comprehension.** Become one of his lab assistants!
If you take the winter session, be prepared as this is a fast-paced and demanding class. However, this professor tells you exactly what you need to learn for the exams, and explains things thoroughly. He presents the material in a digestible way and makes it interesting. The labs are fun and he puts a lot of heart into his teaching style.
Hi I did micro20 winter session . Good teacher, explains well . Tests are really hard - you need to think .You will definitely learn a lot . Labs were fun. If you follow through and study good grades for sure.
Rude, condescending, bad people skills. . . . . slides don't match the tests. It's impossible to study. He gives so much baby busy work that is high school level at best
Micro with him was a mistake! I wish to never take this professor ever again. Worst teacher I have ever had! pretends to be nice at first to keep you in class and then its the real himThis man should not be a teacher!
The biggest problem I have with him is how he words the questions on his quizzes and exams. They're not difficult questions, but they are worded very confusingly that you end up getting it wrong even if you know your stuff. I don't know if this is intentional or unintentional but it's kind of stupid.
This is one of the two classes that I've truly regretted taking. Some of his exam questions are unrealistically difficult. You can memorize his lecture and slides word-for-word and that will only get you a B. Unless you have a completely mastery of the whole subject, you won't get an A; I'm literally not saying that loosely. Tread carefully, guys.
Probably his first online class, but I commend him for doing his best to make it the best experience possible. The material is HARD, but you MUST STUDY to EARN your grade (aka, know the material inside out). This kind of class is great for pre-health students. If you're just doing it to fulfill credits for your major, I don't recommend it.
His ability to use language is limited. Communication is his weak point. Expects students to be mind readers. Class is more about pleasing him rather than learning material that is important for the field. Wasnt a good online class and Ive had many. Please avoid. You wont get an A even if you are great at the subject. The tests make no sense.
I don't have that much of an issue with this professor but all I can say is you really have to work on your grade. This class is a good preparation for allied health majors or biology professors. Don't take this class if you only need it for credit. He's an understanding and good professor in my opinion.
For anyone trying to maintain a good grade, don't take his class. Unless you master the entire subject, you'll get a B at most and that's something you can't change. Tests are difficult as many others have described them to be. The questions can be confusing where all answers seem correct or are actually correct but you'd have to choose one.
He gives you everything you need to succeed. He only tests you on things he's covered, but questions might be on the smallest details from his slides. Clear expectations, and he's accessible during office hours. His style of teaching is very clear, so if you pay attention and study you'll do fine.
I have to admit, I learned a lot from him as a pre-med but I won't forget how his class ruined my GPA. I could've gotten an A if I took someone else. The questions on his exams are not like the ones on the quizzes. They are a lot trickier and sometimes confusing.
He is very organized and knows what he is talking about. I really like how the class is not just graded on exams but also participation points, labs, and lab quizzes. With the class being online, the tests is taken with a tough time limit but it is definitely not impossible, just dont stress out and youll do great. Would recommend this teacher!
Do not take this class! No matter how hard you study or understand there is no way to get a good score. The tests are so confusing and do not match the lectures or slides. No textbook assigned so how can you study? The tests are so short it's not enough time. Professor won't respond to emails.
I'm surprised he has such a low rating. His lectures are straight forward and interesting. The exams are based on only the lecture. You cannot expect a good grade without studying. Just rewatch the lecture videos multiple times and you'll be fine. He is kind of hard to reach outside of class but he is very understanding and kind.
Disliked because he teaches low & tests high. Rude and not responsive to communication. Has a bad attitude and will ruin your GPA. Its really not worth it. There are other Biology professors within the district. LACC doesn't offer any other options. Dont start 06 with him because theyll try to convince you to take 07 with him too.
Very nice professor and easy to talk to, he was understanding when I missed a quiz once. The material is difficult but as long as you re-watch the lectures and take very detailed notes you will do well on the exams.
This class is frustrating! You will be assigned so much work. I don't think enough time is given on the test and I tried to get more time but nothing changed. I can't get along with this teacher. He does not seem to care about students. We need to transfer. Grading is so strict. This is my only professor who makes things seem harder than before.
Literally do not take if you are sensitive with your GPA. His class will literally ruin it. His tests and quizzes are trickier than what he actually teaches. No matter how hard I studied, I had to settle for a B.
Beware of this professor.. RUN!!! He is out to make students fail. Teaching technique is poor and tests are very difficult. His grading is very tough and you would not get good grades. Practice exams are useless. Lectures are lengthy. Avoid at all cost
I don't know why his rating is so low either? Took him for micro online during covid and he was great! All the lectures are prerecorded so you can watch on your own time. I would watch a second time in 2X speed. You'll have to study but its fair game. He's super friendly and cares for his students. I really enjoyed his class!
Be aware all good reviews are written by the professor himself. Do not take this class! You will be covered in assignments from morning until night. It's really so much work guys. The tests are crazy hard. I prepared for so many hours and got a tutor but the test did not match the study guides. I'm stressed because I usually get A. Not this time.
I really enjoyed his class, the lectures were definitely dense but the topic is very dense too. He really prepares students going into healthcare so a lot of his examples stem from that. If you pay attention to lecture and understand it, the tests are perfectly reasonable. I'm doing pre-reqs for nursing and he helped make sense of medical terms
Phommasaysys classes were unreasonably challenging, but not regarding content taught but with how he presented and formatted the class. From extreme time constraints on exams, to not letting students into lecture if they were more than 4 minutes late, to his redundant and condescending teaching style, his primary goal was NOT to provide success.
Anyone looking for an easy to mid difficulty gen ed, PLEASE look else where. This class is information heavy. I can attest to everybody else's negative experiences.. the tests are insanely tough and nothing compared to the lectures and quizzes. Do not take if this class has nothing to do with your major. You were warned!
All the negative comments are true . I enrolled thinking that all negative comments are from people who fail but this professor is unreasonable . All the positive comments are from students who has either repeated the class, have strong foundation or have a degree in science or is the professor itself. Do not take this class. Don't make that mistak
His prerecorded lectures are hella long. Seems like he knows what he's talking about, but the material isn't organized well, which is quite annoying. His canvas page is also very disorganized. Has a bunch of assignments up that aren't actually due, and it's just messy and confusing. I know it's asynchronous but doesn't really communicate...
the lectures are fine the only main thing is he gives almost no time to do the exams and quizzes. 1 question per minute to answer it . the questions are basically which not ..... so it requires some time to find the answer. there is no communication between professor and student. if you want take ; take it . you are warned.
When I took his biology class, the class became online due to ongoing pandemic. His pre-recorded lecture is very clear and easy to understand, and his exams are solely from his lecture. I watched it multiple times before exam, and did well. I think I would struggle if it was in-person classroom lecture that I can't listen to lecture multiple times.
This professor enjoys teaching, student of students, provides alternatives to medical degrees ti students who struggle.
Professor phommasaysy is a really tough grader and unreasonable person. the most difficult part of his class is the exams . there is not time for even rethink the question that he states. it is basically 1 minute per question ( 65 question). I regretted it taking with him. it is not worth it at all.
Professor Phommasaysy is real a tough grader and heartless. Exams don't match what we learned in lectures. the exams are unrealistic and impossible to finish it due to the short period of time given 1 minute per question of 65 question.. the platform canvas was messy with wrong due dates. find another professor u will no pass.
Wow. This professor is TERRIBLE!!! DO NOT take his class not matter how desperate you are to complete your biology 6 requirement. He is the most inconsiderate and unorganized professor ever. He does not give enough time on exams and his exams have nothing to do with what he taught in his lectures. He does not care about his students. TERRIBLE!!!!!!
His class has 5 Lecture Exams and 2 Lab exams, which are the bulk of the grade. The class is asynchronous so he uploads recordings of past lectures which are of questionable quality since he just reads what is on the slides. Tests could also be an issue if you are a slower test taker. If this is the case, I wouldn't recommend Sean for BIO6
Terrible professor. As people have stated before me, he is condescending. I met with him once through zoom and he belittles you for not understanding. 5 lecture exams and 2 lab exams make the bulk of the grade. His lectures are awful, outdated, and low quality. Exams dont correlate to lecture, you will need to teach yourself. Avoid at all cost!
I don't understand why there are many people saying the lecture doesn't match with the exam. It does. I took his online class, so I had chance to watch his recorded zoom lecture multiple times before the exam. If you can't solve each problem in a minute, that means you didn't study. Also, he gives a lot of extra credit from lab component.
There is no question that Professor Phommasaysy's BIO 6 & 7 is very tough. That being said, it really prepares you for what comes after transferring. I took his class back in person in 2018 & 2019; now that I have transferred to a top-tier university, it does not get easier. Professor Phommasaysy prepares you to read, take notes, and succeed.
Regretted taking this class fall of 2021. The questions on the quizzes and exams are never straightforward and to add insult to injury you are not given enough time to figure it out. On average you get a minute a question and sometimes less. This professor clearly does not care whether students succeed or not. Heartless. Do not take his class.
the class itself is hard and also the professor is unreasonable so the class turns into a nightmare . test are difficult and there is not time to finish the test ; we basically have to finish every question in 1 minute for 60 questions.
The class is just a nightmare and I regretted to take. The test is just unreasonable no time to finish even though u studied. 60 question and 65 minutes to finish it so we basically have 60 seconds to finish it. Don't take this class just skip it.
No matter what you will fail. this class was made to inflect pain in student. Tricky exams and poor lecture
While I had high hopes for this class, they were quickly dashed by the mediocrity of this professor and his inability to make the material he lectured on seem like something I might to learn more about in subsequent courses. As for the lectures, they were recorded in 2020 or 2021 and should be listened to at 2.0x speed just to make them palatable.
I thought I could attain an A with sheer determination despite all the negative reviews but no! Take the negative reviews seriously! He's super unhelpful, arrogant and most of the times, it felt like this class was purposefully trying to fail the students. No matter how hard you try, you may skate by with a low 80%!
Very long lecture figures with no textbook to use. Quizes are very short time and unfair. The videos are so hard to process and are very very long. I would just take someone else for this.
It' was really fun class.
His lectures are amazing but quizzes are difficult.
I seriously don't understand all the negative reviews. It's a tough course, but if you're willing to do the work, Prof. Phommasaysy sets you up for success. He's really good at explaining all the concepts, and you can tell he actually cares about the subject. Plus the lab is actually fun. I highly recommend him for all pre-health students.
Great professor! Kind, funny, engaging, and helpful.
Tough class, but the lectures help if you engage. Use Unstuck AI and the textbook to study - that, plus going to class, is the key to success. Not an easy A, but worth it if you put in the work.
This class is easy, even with the added honors section that I had. It's mainly working through McGrawHill which beware WILL COST YOU $60 OUT OF YOUR OWN POCKET. Aside from that, this class in mainly memorization, I recommend just making flashcards to breeze your way through. If you're not lazy, you'll pass
The professor is occasionally rude, quickly changes slides without posting them on Canvas, and includes that content in quizzes, so take fast pictures. He doesn't wait on people during labs, gets mad if you're slow, and calls you out. Exams are proctored and not based on memorization but on mastering and applying the material, so study a lot.
He is a tough grader. Lectures are Zoom recordings. A lot of homework for each sections like online labs, quizzes, and lab exercises. 4 lecture exams, 2 lab exams practicum & 1 final exam. Don't miss class; he does participation questions and you complete lab in class. 4 mandatory field trips. 1 group project. Some extra opportunities.Good luck
Unfortunately the only biology professor available, but the experience was poor. Lectures are extremely long, assignments are excessive and often opened late with short deadlines. Exams are very difficult. In-person, he can be disrespectful, and missing 3 participation questions results in being dropped without notice. Avoid this professor.
AMAZING professor. His lectures had a lot of information however he clearly states what is needed to know for exams vs what is just fun facts to know. 10/10
Learned a lot from this class. Sometimes test asks about small details but as long as watch the lecture carefully and take notes, it will be fine.
The content itself of the course is interesting, but it's a tough class. No curves, and the class takes a test practically every 2 weeks. In other words, it's a lot of info to cram on a short period of time. 4 lecture exams, 2 lab exams, and a final that's pretty grueling, but very cool labs. The class can be pretty time consuming.
