He's not too bad. the course is hard, but he tries his best to make everything clear for you. The lectures feel like they go on forever and ever. Don't skip any classes, I only skipped one and I felt like I was years behind on the material. The powerpoint slides are slightly confusing, and the class can be a little overwhelming. Just study hard.
His lectures are off powerpoints. He does however post the powerpoints later on, in blackboard. However, his posts the reviews for exams the night before the exam, which to me is very unfair. His exams are 50 questions long and are very specific. During his lab quizzes, he is very big on spelling, for ex. you better know how to spell Archaeopteryx
Honestly this class is easy. If you are a good studier don't buy the book. If you need additional help buy it. His test are exactly from his ppt. Test are long , but simple. He is very nice and lets you know what you need to study. The lab is fairly easy and he explains everything. Post powerpoints online, and overall an amazing teacher.
HE SUCKS AS A TEACHER! HE"S MEAN AND HIS LAB QUIZES ARE HARD!!! If you have a chance to take someone else do it. Don't take him you will regret it!
tests are 50 questions. there is also a comprehensive final. He makes jokes during lecture, which arent funny. and he laughs at his own jokes. hes kinda cute, but hes not very helpful. his lab class requires alot of work, you have to take pictures of the models and slides. his questions in lab and lecture are very specific. you HAVE to study hard!!
Greaat professor! Cute and slightly funny. Always encourages you to see him if you're struggling. He saves you money on the book, just take his notes.
Class is fun and fairly easy. if you skip class forget about passing! he gets to the point and will help if you ask him. bonus is he doesn't require the book! is biology challenging? uh yea and its college! But overall, very chill guy. Glad I got him for both lecture and lab.
He tries hard to be helpful and in some cases he succeeds. His tests are 50 questions long from the powerpoint, but its usually what you dont expect to be on the test. study everything. his lectures are really boring.. it seems to go on forever.. sometimes his reviews help and sometimes it doesnt. this class isnt easy. you HAVE TO STUDY and work.
Cool guy. He looks young. You will have to study but easy to visit with in his office. Don't skip class! He jokes often. Take him.
He literally post his lectures to blackboard. Like literally. You can't fail if you just read them! Some people can't read I guess. Lab is fun but spelling counts. Breezing through to the final.
Class is not difficult! Test are multiple choice and one option is none of the above which is never the right choice :) other reviews are correct just read the notes and you will make an eaaaasy B. I'm taking professor Valdez again next semester for bio 2
Have him for 1406. Class is straightforward because he cuts out unnecessary stuff. Test are straight from the notes. Reviews are not needed just read the posted notes. Im no science major but I'll pass without much stress.
He does a good job an explains everything in detail. The material is pretty clear cut. I expect to get an A. He's charming and fun. But don't expect him to give extra credit cause he clearly says in his syllabus he won't. Skip class if you want to fail or want to whine how hard it is.
I was absent the day of evaluations but good professor. Show up actually take notes and then read them. If you haven't learned this from high school well I feel bad for you. I've learned surprisingly a lot. He's a little cocky but cool one on one.
Good overall! He breaks the material down into easy chunks. Very personable.
Valdez is a great professor for both lecture and lab. He tells what to expect on lab quizzes, his tests are literally from the notes, he is always ready to answer any questions asked by students. Listen to his lectures well, because some stuff that he says that isn't on the notes could be on the test. He's also the type to crack a joke sometimes(:
Helpful! Ready to answer questions. If you miss a class, you have a slightly smaller chance of not passing the test. You just need to catch up from the book or the power point he offers before the test. I suggest studying notes and his presentations. You'll be a happy student.
You will enjoy the semester. But dont blow off taking his notes or studying the lab models! You've been warned. Yes hes cute.
Material comes fast but he's so sweet. He smiles a lot. Take notes! Book is optional but recommended.
He's a great professor, love his class! He starts his lab quiz at the beginning of lab. If you show up 5 mins late then you've missed it.
Like honestly helpful and fun. All the exams match his notes but you'll have write them out. I've already signed up for his other bio course next semester.
He's the type of professor to count off points if you write your name (first, last) instead of (last, first) which takes merit away from the student's hard work/ preparation for the quiz or exam in the first place. The class is hard if you make the frequent mistake of not studying.
Let's just say I'm taking a different professor when I RETAKE this class. Not very helpful at all.
Not helpful at all! Worst semester ever. And no, he's not cute. (if that was at all any motivation for you to take the class)
Pretty good professor! Class was straight forward. I attended every lecture and studied ahead of time so nothing caught me off guard. If you need to take a bio course he'd be your best choice.
I messed up the first test and cried but he encouraged me to stick it out. Did all his reviews which he puts online and made a B overall! I found him to very helpful and yes attractive. Just FYI you will do dissections in lab. The frogs are huge!
This is a good class. The final exam will be 100 questions but it is passable. I'll probably end up with low A and I'm okay with that.
Professor Valdez is an alright teacher, nothing special about him. What he lacks in knowledge he makes up for in arrogance. For me the overall class was hard, I am nota strong science person in the first place. I studied at least 9 hours for each test and studied in advance, but I still received a C in the class. He doesn't give extra credit.
you'll get by ok. Exams have no surprises.
Lecture was fun, no complaints. MWF classes are smooth.
Study study study the notes and ppts. He is super kind, very friendly and jolly. He is probably one of the happiest professors I have ever seen. He will recommend you to get and read the text book, but you really don't need it. It depends on you and your study preferences.
Hands down the sweetest guy! Mr Valdez is funny and good natured. He took a complicated course like A&P and made it bearable.
Go to class as the lecture definitely helps when it comes to doing the lab. He doesn't give homework. The book is not mandatory because the power points are available in Blackboard.
Great teacher! He post powerpoints online and his test are based exactly on all the info on the powerpoints. Everything in PowerPoint is important. Listen in class when he is explaining the powerpoints so you understand and take note of his explanations. That all you need! His powerpoints and explanations and you will get a A!! No surprises on test
The class isn't easy but he definitely helps you if you ask. He really is sweet and will sit with you in lab and go through each model pointing out things.
Kind and good natured. Tests are straight forward and based on his lecture. Listening to his lecture and attending laboratory class will help a lot. He is approachable and helpful. Got an A in his class for AP1.
Don't blow off lab. Everything he points out in lab will show up on the practical. The muscles were a pain to spell! I wish he taught AP II in the fall. He's a cutie.
Good professor but lab is tough! He helps out a lot and made the summer go by fast. I recommend completely.
Made biology tolerable. Lectures are informative, while occasionally funny. The tests are easy, as long as you study the reviews he provides for every test. Keep all of your tests, because the final exam is all of the pasts tests in one exam. The lab practicals are hard, but the quizzes are easy. They average together.
Super jolly happy professor, the happiest I've seen. I really enjoyed his classes. Please do take notes on the ppts he gives.
He's a solid professor. I enjoyed his passion and humor. But don't blow off attending lecture, you truly need to show up if you want a decent grade.
Took Valdez for Bio 1 lecture+lab. All the tests are from the powerpoints and he posts reviews, so no need for the textbook. Plus the tests are easy. For the labs, he will tell you what u need to know for the quiz. He's also nice and explains stuff very well!
Hands down awesome! He is very engaging and funny. His tests come from the notes. You can get by without buying the book so that's a relief! I only have him for lecture but wish I signed up for his lab.
pretty sure I will end up with an A. He uses blackboard to distribute notes and reviews. Very thorough tests. You will need to take notes. But he is hands down the best.
Definitely one of the best teachers at WCJC. His lectures are easy to follow, and his enthusiasm about the subject is great! It's nice to see a prof. that actually seems to enjoy his job. Great teacher!
Absolutely loved his class. He won't curve grades but he is upfront about your chances of making an A or B. Just make sure you take him for both lab and lecture. Took all my science basics with him! Now on to the big university.
He is a great professor. Just study and pay attention to his lecture notes. If you do that you will do good on the tests. For the lab, you do have to pay attention and study the lab manual, especially for the lab practicals. Overall just pay attention and study.
I really enjoyed his class. He is nice and easy to understand. His test will be straightforward if you take good notes. His lab quizzes are somewhat tricky. Show up for lab because any data tables, slides or models will appear on his practicals. There really is no reason why you shouldn't make an A or B.
Study the notes from class for his test because it's literally everything from the notes.
The best biology professor I've ever taken! He gives interesting lectures, is always in a good mood, focuses on the important points and main concepts, good powerpoints for notes. Is clear and concise and super helpful in lab. Clearly passionate about biology. He could teach biology to a rock! He's that good! And the rock would learn something.
Took for bio1 and 2 also for both labs. Good teacher, answers any questions. Make sure to study his power points and the test will be easy. Gotta study for the A. Quiz before each lab day but drops lowest 3. i enjoyed him and recommend to anyone that asks about him. bio2 curriculum is definitely different than bio1. overall great teacher!
I do recommend him. He's really nice and patient if you ask for help. Rent the book. It helps.
You go through a lot of material but he's very easy to follow. He doesn't let up on grading in the lab portion but if you listen to him it won't be an issue. I learned a lot and passed!
Great professor, knows what he's talking about. Very lecture heavy, never used the book. tests straight from powerpoints and posts them before exams for review. a lot of material to remember, took for bio 1 and 2 and would take again
Loved Valdez, and didn't need the textbook! I attended every class, took notes, and printed power-points to study them. Everything you need to know for the tests can be found on the power-points, so if you pay attention it's a pretty straight-forward class. I'm not good at science at all, but he explains so clearly, I'm very thankful I took him!!!!
This was a very hard class for me. The teacher was great, it was just a lot of material at one time. I could not keep up. Be prepared to copy a lot of notes and study a lot. He says to pass the class you need to buy the textbook, but its super expensive and he copies the textbook right into a power point.
Loved him! He was super funny! And made everything really easy to understand! And this coming from a Business Major! I went in to the class being really nervous and not knowing what to expect but he is one of the best professors at WCJC!
The only grades you get are the 4 tests you take during the semester, plus the lab and final. Everything is on the notes. If you study youll do great. If you dont, itll be tough. Next semester will be my third time taking him.
I had him for lab and he was super easy! you need the lab manual and you have a quiz every week that are at the beginning of class and are super easy! if you arent sure about something ask him he'll help! also feel free to ask what to study for the lab quiz next week he'll tell you! theres 2 practicals and 9 quizzes but 3 get dropped.
He only has four tests and the lecture grade is worth more than half of your grade. If you don't study you will have a hard time. He is passionate about the class but you don't have many opportunities besides the test to bring your grade up.
I found Professor Valdez to be a great professor. He's funny and is great at answering questions. Very accessible if you ever need to reach him. My only gripe was that the grade was based solely on exams and practicals. No other chances to bring your grade up & no curves . Eat, live, and breathe by his notes and you'll do fine. Book not required.
I had him for lecture one year and lab t. He is very nice and all but he like to assume that once he says something that it was received clearly with no questions. He's alright tho but i wouldn't take him again.
I took Valdez for biology class and lab. Your overall grade is based off exams and lab average. Questions from the exam and review are on the final! I struggle with biology and have to put the time in to study. If this class is easy for you I definitely suggest taking him.
I took the summer course, struggled some and I was not working so I devoted a lot of time to studying. Everything is from his slides, HOWEVER, you will not get access to them until the night, maybe two before the test, same for the reviews, if you even get them. Hard to study quizzes, ie Quizlet. He's passionate and kind. Double check his grading!
Professor Valdez is a great professor and knows his stuff. I took him for a summer session and it was overall smooth ride. Anatomy is not easy course , so you really have to devote yourself . Your grades are based off lecture exams and lab particles. Everything comes from his notes !! Just study his notes thoroughly.
Hes probably the best A and P teacher i have ever had, i had to drop mine last semester and he really makes sure you know what hes doing and actually explains everything. I took him for lab also and hes good in there too. Make sure just to come to class so you dont miss anything because he gives out some extra info that you need to know for tests
I wish I wouldve had him for lecture. I loved his teaching style and hope everyone picks him.
Took him for anatomy 1 & if you show up, take notes, & study, theres no reason you shouldnt pass. He is super chill
his lectures aren't very interesting and he doesn't help during office hours. he never fully explains his points when you ask a question, leaving you just more confused than you were before. Ended up having to drop his course after receiving little to no help. if you want to teach yourself, then take him. Otherwise, don't waste your money.
If you pay attention during lecture and study with effort youll do great. Mr. Valdez is a great professor and will take time to explain extra when needed.
Make sure you attend lecture because his powerpoints really help with the tests and just review for an hour a day after class. That's literally all you need to do make an A. His tests are super easy if you study his powerpoints and take notes. Easy to listen to and makes his lectures super interesting/pleasing to listen to. I would 100% take again.
Nice guy. He genuinely cares about everyone doing well. ALWAYS check his grading. He makes some mistakes on grading each test and I always got some points back. You HAVE TO STUDY or you won't pass. This class is easy if you put the time and effort in. It's straight up memorization. Don't underestimate it though. Put the work in and you'll be fine.
Don't take him for Summer 2402. Class started off well until the last week when he decided to give a content exam, practical, and final exam in two days because he couldn't get through all the information (his fault for ending class early and acts like victim). Talks so much and will put you to sleep. Exams are not too bad just have to study.
Mr. Valdez is the best A&P professor @wcjc. I took his 2401 class over the summer. If you go to class, take notes over his lectures, and study the book you will do well. The same thing goes for his lab practicals. He is very responsive & helpful!
I would not recommend if you need someone to explain to you throughly about something you dont understand. He will rush you and go to the next person and take his time with them. Hes ALWAYS on his phone! He will rushes last minute material. The material on the PowerPoint will be on his test. Not accessible during set office hours.
If you need an A in a&p Mr. Valdez is the professor to take. Take notes during his lectures since most of his tests come straight from his power-points. He was always really helpful when I had a question. His practicals were also pretty straight forward. I would def take him all over again if needed.
I have taken Anatomy 1 at Wharton County Junior college. Professor Valdez is amazing. All the material for his tests and lab quizzes are given in class. No textbook needed. If you dont understand something you can look it up or ask him. Usually he teaches VERY well. Show up, take notes, study and youll make an A PERIOD. 5/5. Please take him :).
Don't buy the book his tests are 100% powerpoint! He's pretty boring but you have to go to class because he only posts the powerpoints the day before the exam. His lab quizzes are pretty easy and half of the lab grade so that helps a ton. Easy A if you show up and take good notes.
By far the worst teacher I taken so far at WCJC. The exams are the only grades and are very hard. He doesnt drop any test grades nor gives any extra credit. Also be ready to write a lot however PowerPoints are informative but too much info. Would not recommend taking him for bio.
Dont know how he gets nice coments when 85% of class dropped. Notes are nothing like test. Notes are vague & test questions ask in detail. When lecturing he reads off of script. Ask him question, he repeats what he says over & over again so u can leave him alone. Spent hours studying, research & gave up. This was my experience. I hope this helps.
he's easy and tests are exactly on his power points and easy multiple choice.
His lectures are long & boring. His phone goes off during class. He posts the PowerPoints he goes over in class one night before the tests. He wasnt helpful when I asked him a question instead he rolled his eyes. Def not taking him for A&P. Dont get fooled by the great reviews
Awful, he drones and drones, and for what? None of the material he goes over is ever in the test. While doing lectures he'd say things like "this might/will be on the test" make us write it down, then surprise, surprise, it's not on there at all. His lectures are long and boring, he himself talks as if he's boring himself out. Wouldn't recommend.
If you take him (don't), I hope you like reading the power points at home, because you won't be teaching you much in lecture.
He doesn't give hw and attendance isn't mandatory. His tests are based on the powerpoints, but are still challenging. He doesn't post the powerpoints until the day before the test. The only grades are the exams and the lab, which is 20% of your grade. He doesn't give extra credit. His lectures are somewhat confusing but it may just be the material.
Professors should get F's too
cool professor. its basic biology so nothing mind blowing. i joined his zoom office hours during the pandemic which was helpful.
I took his notes, plus I bought and read the textbook. The book probably wasnt necessary but I didnt want to risk it. I'm taking him for A&P in the fall hopefully!
He is SOOOO hard. Does not give any extra credit. He only gives test!!! and its only 4 of them. In lab he will drop 3 quizzes but they are not hard. The Lab practicles are hard
I mean the online class is easy, but its still Bio so you cant get around that. He makes the class entertaining through lectures online. I think its his voice... its kind of soothing. Very chill vibes.
Took him for Nutrition class. It was easy, but a lot of information. He reads off of the textbook. Just go by lecture videos and you will do just fine
His lectures only have 4 tests as grades and no extra credit. His lectures are very informative but I highly suggest you note the things he SAYS as well as the powerpoints and you really have to study thoroughly if you want an A but skimming over can still get you a B. Lectures directly correlate with test material. Put in the effort to study!
Genuinely the worst Professor Ive ever had. Ive been at wcjc for quite some time and this is the first class Ive had to drop. Hes completely unhelpful & his tests are super difficult. I remember once I emailed him to say I was struggling & asked what I could do & he said have you tried watching the lectures? Gee, hadnt thought of that one!
He's a really smart and interesting professor to listen to. But his tests (which that's all you're graded on in that class, no quizzes or assignments) are insanely hard. I would study a whole week before the test and never made higher than a B. All in all though, he is quite helpful and explains everything thoroughly. And he's pretty funny.
Your graded by only exams (lecture & lab). There is no homework or quizzes. If you watch lecture videos and take notes you will do fine! It is possible to make As on exams, only if you put the effort to study and know the material. Best way of contact is course messages its also mentioned in his syllabus.
Lectures have good notes and he explains very well, he actually cares about students knowing material to pass the exam and will push back the date if needed. You only get graded for exams in lecture, pretty easy class just take notes and study and youll pass. Tests arent difficult if you pay attention.
I would recommend him to take all your a&p with. His lecture are extremely helpful. Your only graded by exams, which makes this a last stressful. Just study and take notes and youll be good!!
Dont listen to people saying he's hard, his tests are so easy it's crazy. I study his PowerPoint, which takes me only about 15 minutes per PowerPoint if I listen in class. I got something in my eyes on a test day, and they were red and watery, I told him I needed to reschedule a test, and he let me. ONLY 4 tests no other material.
Valdez was very clear on his expectations. I will say I am not good at science, but with hard work and studying you will too pass his class. He gives simple but detailed powerpoints and the tests come from them. As long as you study beforehand and look through the power points you will be good. I would take him again!
His anatomy class is easy if you use his quizlets. Easy to memorize. Creates comfortable environment and is funny. Drops lowest quiz grade. Helps when asked. Responds promptly to emails . The biology portion is hard, though. He gives good lectures, but can get hard around test times. Study guides are long & there are multiple per test
Very good professor. Lots of studying but the test is exactly like the PowerPoint. He goes into depth and always has a great attitude every day when he walks into class. I rarely use my textbook because he puts it in the PowerPoint anyway.
I would recommend Prof. Valdez to anyone! His class is very easy if you show up and take notes. He is super kind, genuine, and makes science fun. As long as you review your notes and listen to him you are going to pass his class.
I had Valdez for A&P1 lec and lab. overall a good professor and good teaching but stern about grades. takes off points for misspelling or anything minor. notes for lec are helpful and provides quizlets for lab. isn't fast paced and answers any questions respectfully unlike others. gave us a farewell speech before our final lol. would take again
I've taken valdez for biology 1 and a&p1. i would take him again if i could. genuinely one of the best professors ive ever met. lab attendance is mandatory, lecture isnt. he always says in the beginning of a semester that if u dont feel like showing up, dont. super funny guy and all his exams is exactly the same information as the notes.
Professor Valdez is a good biology teacher, his tests were easy, practically everything in the slides he provides. The only reason I did not give him a higher rating is because it was a bit difficult for me to sit through his lectures and actually pay attention.
He was quite nice and funny, lectures were easy to understand, though boring for me because I'm not interested in biology. No assignments or projects at all, only tests. Provides reviews but honestly if you just study your notes or his powerpoints (which he does post) you will do well on the tests, they're not too hard and always multiple choice.
literally one of the best professors ever, he makes corny jokes but honestly the way he explains things are so easy ive taken him twice for two diff classes and hes honestly js wonderful you js have to show up and pay attention he drops lab quizzes and will give u help if needed
Professor Valdez is one of my favorite professor's i have ever had. His lectures are interesting and easy to understand. Attendance is only mandatory for lab. He genuinely cares and wants you to succeed in his class. Great personality! 10/10 would take him again!
Prof Valdez is an incredible teacher who genuinely loves what he teaches and you can see that passion in class. He is available every day for office hours and responds quickly to emails. I highly recommend making a quizlet of his powerpoint notes as a study method. You have several opportunities for extra credit as well.
His lectures are very draining and he reads off the power point and stays on one topic for a long period of time that most of the time is not on the exam. There are only 4 exams, no quizzes, no homework. He doesn't explain well when going over exam material. Other bio classes are ahead and if you have a different lab professor you'll be behind.
He is passionate about what he teaches and you can tell in lecture. Corny guy & uses real life examples to try and make the class understand topics which was appreciated. The downside is, his reviews aren't real reviews and when he says "this will/may be on the exam", its not. Study hard because there is only 4 exams & nothing else.
