Pretty good professor, but a little tough.
if you don't like a professor with an ascent, do not take his class. He is generous on some things like extra credit, hes a far grader. Lectures do not stop till the very end. bet to print out the PowerPoint. DO THE HOMEWORK!might be extra credit.
He's my favorite professor so far. He has an accent but it isn't hard to understand him at all, he speaks clearly. He gives extra credit if you do your homework, and he tries to get as many problems answered in class as possible. If you pay attention in class to the PowerPoints and do your homework from the book you'll do fine.
He teaches quickly. If you understand chemistry well, it won't be a problem but for people who struggle with chemistry, good luck.
He's a nice person but he messes up during the lecture. Many have to correct him when he makes a mistake or contradicts himself, happens multiple times in a lecture. If you do his reviews you pass, but take every EC opportunity he gives you, even if it seems like it's not worth it.
I loved Dr. B's class. He is very informative and ready to help. Gives a ton of extra credit on tests, up to a whole letter grade. He puts all his powerpoints online so you can print them off. He was the best teachers I'v had this year.
He has an accent so it's sometimes hard to understand him. Try to sit up front so you can hear him clearly. He is funny, and likes to put noises in his power points to make them "fun". He also has a good sense of humor. You can skip a few times, but if you skip a lot you won't pass. Don't buy the textbook, its a waste of money. You won't use it.
One of the best teachers I've taken so far. He offers a lot of extra credit prior to tests and corrections for 5 points extra. If you do all the extra credit and study this class should be an easy A.
Literally nothing wrong with this guy.
TAKE DR. B FOR ORGANIC CHEMISTRY. He understands that most students are not chemistry majors and thus he leaves out long, complicated explanations whenever he can. He really cares about his students and wants to see them succeed. gives tons of practice problems and really makes sure you know the material. tests are reasonable
Best chem professor I've ever had. He makes perfect sense during lecture and doesn't force you to practice but at the same time gives you plenty of practice option via extra credit homework. Very nice guy and very approachable. My only complaint is that there were a lot of mistakes on tests that affected grades. But he usually curves them.
Amazing professor. He's passionate about teaching and loves chemistry. He will spend endless time with you in office hours if you need help, and honestly wants you to succeed. O Chem is a really hard subject in general, but he does his best to make it easier to understand without dropping the difficulty level of the class.
Dr. Berhe is an excellent professor! Teaches very thoroughly and at a pace you can follow. During recitation he will work out practice problems, which are very similar to the questions on his tests. Also, Dr. Berhe is extremely nice and helpful during office hours. The class is content heavy, but Dr. Berhe makes it manageable! Go Dr. B!
Dr. B is a great professor! Lots of content covered in short amount of time. Complete all practice problems given, very close if not the same on tests. Do the extra credit!
I would recommend taking Dandekar at least for 2380 because you are required to take an ACS standardized final which he does NOT curve (at least to the extent she does). Tests are similar to reviews and he does curve some, just don't expect it. DEFINITELY do the sapling homework. He's a good person, he just doesn't help much with grades.
Dr. Berhe is the nicest most caring professor i ever had. He really wants his students to succeed and motivates us to want to do better. He is super helpful and welcoming dCuring office hours and really helps you understand the material. If your are going to take ochem you definitely have to take it with him!! you will NOT regret it!
Dr. Berhe was wonderful! He was a great professor whose lectures were very clear and specific to the exam. Not only that, but he seems so passionate about what he teaches, that it makes the class both more interesting and easy! Furthermore, the extra credit he gives is fair. Overall, a great first professor for my first semester at UNT!
Grades are based on top three of four exams and the final, with the final being worth less than the other exams. Homework is pass or fail extra credit. I learned all of the material from the powerpoints which he posts online with review questions.
This is a difficult course, you must practice. He gives out extra credit by doing sapling homework so that will definitely benefit you. I recommend going to his office hours since they are so helpful and actually give you some hope in organic chemistry. Great professor.
Dr. berhe is a great professor. He made organic chemistry a little bit easier. He is very helpful during his office hours. He drops 1 exam and give extra credit that worthy like 5% of your grade through sapling. Do a lot of practice!!! His practices alone is not enough. Just practice and go to class, you should be fine. Highly recommend dr. Berhe!!
If you are scared of taking organic chemistry, TAKE IT WITH DR. BERHE! He is an amazing professor and he always makes himself available after class and during office hours. He is extremely knowledgable and his teaching style is easy to grasp, even with a tough subject like OChem. Dr. Berhe is the best prof at UNT!
Chemistry is not a subject I'm very passionate about but with Dr. B, I couldn't help but just be ready to head into his class every day. He makes the material accessible to anybody who is serious about doing well in the class and you can tell he really wants everybody to do well. If you're dreading O-Chem, take it with Dr B. Just do it.
I took him for Chem 1 and will be taking him again for OChem. His teaching style is very effective- he shows that he cares about your learning and explains concepts very thoroughly. Go to class, pay attention, and take notes. Also work the homework problems he gives you, they help for tests. He sometimes curves tests.
He moves fast through things we have already covered, but otherwise he is clear in his explanations and works through many examples. He makes himself available to students if they need more clarification - he is very helpful and truly wants his students to succeed. Extra Credit offered. Focus on lecture notes and his practice questions for tests
Organic chemistry is a hard topic. He doesn't make it easy on you, but he definitely makes it more managable. Grades fairly and gives understandable explanations. Homework is extra credit, but you really NEED to do it to work with the material.
If you have to take organic chemistry definitely take it with Berhe. Although the class is difficult, he makes it very possible to succeed. The tests are reasonable and he offers extra credit for online homework! Study as you learn the material and do the practice problems he offers! They are similar to the tests. He's a great lecturer!
Chemistry is tough. His tests were super hard. He will curve tests depending on what the class average is. I saw some tags that claims he offers extra credit. I would say don't expect extra credit because it was not offered to our class. Reviews/practice questions were provided if we asked (not for the final). Overall he is passionate just tough.
Amazing professor, he cares about his students and makes sure everything is understandable, struggled the whole year but still in the end made a B thanks to extra credit.
I had Dr. Berhe for both organic chemistry and general chemistry. His exams are very fair, and similar to the problems on his review. Chemistry is a difficult subject, but he breaks it down and makes it as simple as possible. Take Dr. Berhe if you want to learn the material and have reasonable exams that don't intentionally throw you off.
There are 4 quizzes (AKA Exams) for 27% each and your lowest quiz grade is dropped. The final is worth 20% and you have 10 optional homework assignments that if you get a 75% or above on you get 0.5% added on to your final grade. Always accessible outside of class and encourages you to come in and asks more questions.
OChem makes me want to cry but he was okay. He explained most things clearly, though I feel like he focused on the "wrong" things (speeding through some topics but spending a lot of time on the same kind of ex. over and over). I wish we would have gotten more feedback on the 4 tests (1 dropped)+final because I was lost towards the end.
Berhe made Ochem less difficult. He understood students dreaded the course, so he did his best in making it as simple as possible. I recommend participating in class, such as answering questions or asking questions. I've noticed he enjoys students that try and enjoy his course rather than tolerate it. There are 4 quizzes + final, & one drop quiz.
Dr. Berhe was a great professor. I was very nervous to take Chemistry my first semester of college but his teaching methods make it very easy to follow. The course is test heavy, but if you do the optional homework and the reviews you will do great. He is very nice and is willing to help outside of class, he also offers extra credit for recitation!
Dr. Berhe is a great professor, truly helps the students understand how to do the work and provides plenty of time to ask questions and understand the lesson. He does provide homework problems to help with the exam and a chapter review of his own questions. Doesn't give out too many grades which is a down side, and the exams are tough.
Good guy but tends to focus on the wrong things in class. Doesn't follow his power-points very well, or give very clear explanations, but drops an exam and gives extra credit (sapling). Study on your own, go to class and SI, and WORK PRACTICE PROBLEMS.
Dr. Berhe is a very knowledgeable individual, and a great professor. Our class was small (less than 30 people), so he made a strong effort in learning all of our names. Really cares about the success of his students and is easily accessible outside of class. Be prepared to study a lot, and definitely do the reviews, as they are similar to tests.
I like Dr. Berhe. I took him for ochem 1 and ochem 2 and if there's one thing I've learned after taking him, it's to practice and master the concepts. What really helped me a lot was to write the notes down rather than printing the ppts. If you have questions, ask it and he'll be glad to answer them. He drops a test and the sapling is extra credit.
Take Dandekar. Berhe is too easy and skips very important topics like NMR. If you take him for Ochem 1 and then take Ochem 2 with Dandekar you will realize how easy Berhe was and have to learn things that he never taught you. Ochem should NEVER be an easy A or B class yet I never even went to class for Ochem 1 and made an A.
Good professor and really wants everyone to do well. 4 test and a final. Lowest of the 4 test gets dropped. Test are multiple choice and short answer. Just do his practice problems a and know the main mechanisms and you'll do okay on the test. The only test he curves is the final, but offers online HW for extra credit.
He is a very caring professor who really cares about his students. He is always willing to help in office hours. He adds 5% to your final grade for completion of homework with a 75% or above and also drops the lowest test grade. He also curves the final exam (ACS) by 10%
Nice guy. He is willing to work with students. The homework helps. I took him for Chem I and II, Received a B in Chem I and a D in Chem II (I was distracted). Definitely pay attention to the PowerPoints, best to during his lectures- he has a slight accent, but you can usually follow along. Good if you had a decent handle on high school Chemistry.
Berhe cares about his students and is a good teacher. The homework is a lot, but it's optional and meant to help you. Two papers weighted 1/2 test each, three tests, and a final weighted 2x the tests. Your lowest test grade gets dropped. Attendance isn't mandatory, but going to lecture is a must. Reading the textbook also helps.
He is a great professor but unfortunately there are only test grades. The extra credit is sapling in which he adds 0.5% to your final grade for each one you complete with a 75 or better. There are 10 chapters so an extra 5 points are added to the final grade, but the tests are hard and the reviews don't correlate at all making it useless.
I took Dr. Berhe for Gen Chem 1 and O-Chem 1, when I say this man is the most amazing professor I've had... So extremely helpful, VERY understanding, and such good lectures (specifically only goes over the things you go over). Use all his chapter reviews to study and you are sure to ace the exams. If you're not practicing you probably won't do well
Professor Berhe is a really fair grader. All the grades come from tests and he drops the lowest one. Attendance isn't mandatory, but you get extra credit for going to recitation. The textbook is only for homework, but he posts review questions on Blackboard so it's not really necessary.
Dr. Berhe is a fantastic professor, and an even better individual. He does really care about his students' success, and is easy accessible via email or office hours to provide help. He made an effort to know each of his students and their names (honors genchem classes 25 students) and made a personalized approach in his teachings. RECOMMEND!!!
Gives optional homework. You can get a few bonus points to your exam grade for showing up to recitation once a week. Just take good notes and ASK QUESTIONS if you're confused at any point. The biggest reason why people got lost in this class is because they let him keep moving through the slides.
his class is fairly easy, and he is nice. i would definitely recommend anyone to take his class.
3 tests, one comprehensive final and a group project with your lowest test grade or half the final dropped. The lectures are dry but informative. You have to work to get an A, do all the homework, practice problems, and ask for help when you need it. But an A is possible.
He FAVORS his honors class heavily so I recommend being in honors b/c there are privileges with Berhe. The hw is optional which includes textbook problems and review problems he will sometimes copy and paste onto exams so do them. 3 exams, 1 group ppt project (in 1410 it's an individual essay), and a final exam counted TWICE. One drop test grade.
I had Dr. Berhe for both Ochem 1 and 2, and I was able to get A's in both classes. I really didn't like Ochem, but he is very caring and he makes it very doable to at least pass if you put in effort. My advice is to do the sapling hw (5 extra credit points on whole grade), go to lecture and take notes, and do the practice problems before each test.
I loved his class! He really cares about how his students do. His homework is optional, and though chemistry can be confusing, he answers all questions and makes sure you understand the concepts before the tests. Will be taking for OChem!
He is truly a fantastic professor. For this course he has 4 main exams (the lowest gets dropped) and a final exam. Online homework is optional but can add 5pts to your final grade. He posts his lecture ppts on Canvas and practice problems for each chapter. He is always happy to answer questions and re-explain concepts if students do not understand.
One of the sweetest souls I have ever encountered. Such a great professor, and so helpful for you if you need help. Make sure you work on every review and homework problem, it will help tremendously. Gen chem II was a lot less intimidating thanks to him. If you are in honors, definitely take him for gen chem! Can't wait for Ochem with him!
He was a horrible communicator. I emailed him multiple times throughout the course and never heard from him once. Other students always heard back from him. He definitely has favorites and abuses it. His tests were like the reviews, but his lectures had little explanation and did not line up to the test very well. He never cared about students.
He's caring, seen by how he tailored my ochem1&2 classes to focus on challenging topics. Don't love his teaching style--puts a paper on the screen to draw reactions and asks the class to guess what happens next. ACS final heavily curved + extra credit + occasional exam curve. Practice will earn you an A, guaranteed. Book also helps organize rxns.
Dr. Berhe was fantastic! I loved his class. He made gen chem II seem easy. He gave us lots of resources to study for the test, and the reviews and recitation problems usually showed up on the test. Super kind and obviously cares about his students. Receptive to questions and wants to help you.
Dr. Berhe is an incredibly sweet and caring professor. He actively listens to students; always answering questions and willing to redo a problem if a student doesn't understand it. Tests form the majority of the grade, but he posts his very detailed powerpoints online and gives practice problems that (hint hint) you might want to do and memorize.
I took Beare's class once before and failed, so I took it again thinking I would improve. I have a learning disability and emailed him asking for extra help with the online format and that reading powerpoints was simply not working for me. Never heard back from him. Emailed again, he said "just read the powerpoint". He does not care nor listen.
Dr. Berhe can be a little unorganized and bad at answering emails, but he's a wonderful professor. He teaches the content very well and will always answer questions. The lowest exam grade, half of your final exam, or one of the essays will get dropped depending on what the lowest grade is. Watch the lectures, do the reviews, and you'll be okay!
If you take it online, you're on your own. Do the sapling and get 5 points onto your entire grade. assignment maybe every 2 weeks, then the tests. Tests are pretty easy, but as a prof he was completely absent. Just recorded lectures, the sapling before the test and the test. That's it. Easy to pass but I didn't learn and I'm concerned about ochem2
Eas class if you did the test reviews and sapling (extra credit). His lectures were pre-recorded and were so long. I didn't learn anything but I got an A. If you don't want to hurt your GPA take him. Quizzes were easy and his exams were very similar to the test reviews. He's not the best at responding to email. We didn't cover all the material tho
Dr. Bearhe is awesome, very kind and understanding. He is clearly very passionate about organic chemistry and truly wants his students to understand the material. I enjoyed his lectures. Be attentive in class, do the chp questions/exam reviews, read the book and you should make a good grade. His class is not too difficult.
Amazing professor! The exams are very similar to the test reviews and they help a lot! Dr.B is very attentive and always is willing to help. He truly is passionate about the subject and wants his students to succeed!
Behre is not very understanding professor, he told me he would work with me (due to my medical issues) then comes back to tell me the day before the exam he will NOT be helping me. Don't bother going to office hours because he doesn't try to explain o-chem, he just says "this is on the powerpoint" then wonders why no one goes to his office...
80% of his class is failing and refuses to help us anymore. I was trying my hardest using outside resources and doing countless practice problems and instead of helping me during office hours he said that I wasnt trying hard enough which in fact I was. In class he said he was done helping us and just wished us luck like he knew wed all fail
Lol he DOES NOT care about his students. This class was mentally draining and very hard for no reason. Like one of my classmates already stated 80% of the class is failing and he is no help. He provides a homework program and practice problems for practice then turns around and makes the test nothing like what we practiced. Class was a struggle.
No matter how hard you study, you will not pass. I do almost 200 practice problems before each quiz, get them all right, but have continuously failed each and every quiz. You will not receive help or a change in practice problems, but you will be blamed for not studying enough. I am always confident before each quiz, but it truly never pays off.
Dr. Berhe is great at explaining concepts in his lectures. If you plan on taking him, DO NOT SKIP CLASS. His recitation problems match the test pretty well. A lot of people expected an easy A I guess, and think they deserve a huge curve to make them pass. Berhe gives extra credit, and a ton of people were skipping class.
Berhe provides lecture videos, practice problems, office hours, decent lectures &outside sources. He makes it clear that if you don't practice you won't pass. This class is notoriously hard but he makes it make sense if YOU put in the hours along with his help. IMO, he did great. It's about how much you're willing to add to really make it through.
Dr. Berhe did not seem to care that the class average was consistently below passing on every exam. We were always told we don't study enough, so I studied for two weeks straight for the final and still failed. OChem is a hard course, but there is no need for the level of arrogance and lack of empathy toward student struggles. DO NOT TAKE.
Dr. Berhe is not the worst professor. He does explain concepts pretty well. I give that to him. However, he does not respond to emails. Other than office hours, do not expect to be able to get him. He is extremely unavailable outside of class that it hurts.
GO TO CLASS & RECITATION. The lectures broad so go to class for explanations. Also doesnt really prepare you on how to solve a question entirely so at recitation, he shows you how. Textbook was no help & he will NOT curve. 1-2 bonus questions on tests. Hes actually really nice though!! Literally ALL memorization of characteristics of compounds.
Easily the worst professor I have ever had. Berhe is inaccessible and unwilling to meet his students halfway. I studied using his materials before every exam and still bombed. I worked hard to get a C. My advice- don't take his class.
NO BS, NO busywork. The workload comes from what IS NOT assigned, reading the textbook thoroughly and doing practice problems, sometimes upwards of 100 per chapter. You will get out what you put in. Everything is covered in class, ONCE MAYBE TWICE, which is not enough for the concepts to stick. Read the book, come to class, PRACTICE, repeat, A+
Dr. Berhe is easily the worst professor I have ever had. I had a medical study done before the second test that did not allow me to study. He didn't care. On the next test I had a seizure during. He didn't care. This obviously led to me bombing 2/4 exams. When I went to his office hours he literally said "I don't know what you want me to do."
Not sure how he has a higher rating than Dandekar because he is easily the worst chem professor I have had. He was powerpoint based, but he really did not present the information well and then his test were completely different than his lectures. I have dandekar and she is so sweet and I would recommend her over him anyday. 4 test only
I was honestly nervous about this course based on reviews. On top of that, the course is challenging itself. However, Dr. Berhe was caring and helped whenever we needed. He gave us extra credit opportunities. If you take him, it will become a blessing. He is not rude. He knows his materials well and teaches enough for us to understand. He is great!
One of the best Chem professors in the Chem department. He will answer any questions and is incredibly kind.
I took him for OChem I, so I knew he was going to be a great professor for this course. I was definitely correct. He was caring and understanding towards his students. He taught and provided us sufficient information and lectures for us to be prepared for exams. ACS was challenging, but he will help you prepare it. Overall, a blessing to have him!
He teaches well and draws out examples in class that help to reinforce the content that was just learned. His tests are quite easy and while the entire class is exams, it is not hard to get an A. At the end of the semester, I needed an 8% on the ACS exam to get an A in the class. He also is very helpful in his office hours with the practice qs!
Reeeally tough class, but I think Dr Berhe taught fairly well. The grading sucked: I was only graded on exams, and the homework was extra credit. DO THE HOMEWORK! Because all the extra credit will really add up. The one thing is that there isn't much partial credit on exams so mistakes add up quick. All in all he's an ok professor.
I heard his office hours are pretty helpful. So is PLTL. I recommend going through his practice problems a few times, often most (if not all) of the questions on exams will come from there. May be a bit problematic if you plan on taking MCAT or GRE, but good for your GPA.
very kind professor. grade was based solely on test grades. tests are all multiple choice w/ potential for 1 or 2 free response questions. 5% extra credit grade boost. very tough course content; lectures did not seem thorough enough based on the material tested. again--very nice professor--i am just a poor test taker.
I hate his syllabus. Four exams, a comprehensive final (he did away with the ACS exam to write his own, which was even worse), lectures move way too fast, he doesn't like explaining things, even in his office hours... luckily there's another option for Ochem 2 this semester that seems to be much better.
Please please please please, if you're looking to not just get a passing grade in this class but enjoy and become confident in the material, take Berhe. Caveat, he's not going to sit down and take your tests for you, not to talk of study the material in your behalf. But wherever you are, rest assured that Berhe is willing to meet you halfway
Berhe is a great professor! It's extremely easy to get an A in the course as long as you pay attention. Tests are very easy and 5% extra credit is available. Every single person I know who put in even a little effort ended up with an A. Compared to other institutions, ochem is easy at UNT and Berhe really helps students learn and perform well
This is my second semester with Dr. Berne, and he is amazing! He genuinely cares and wants students to succeed. You can tell he is passionate about chemistry and he tries his best to make sure everyone is understanding in lecture. Go to class, take notes, do the Canvas chapter problems and understand them. You will get an A!
ochem 1 was easy in comparison with ochem 2. if you are taking ochem 2, berhe will restructure the exams so that they do not look similar to practice problems so beware is genuinely passionate about the subject though and willing to listen to questions
Dr. Berhe is a great professor. I took Dr. Moss for Ochem 1 but was unable to take him for Ochem 2 because he only teaches fall and spring, so I decided to try Berhe. He is very kind, super enthusiastic and never makes you feel dumb. Fair grading, grade is determined by exams and extra credit. I think he taught a difficult subject well.
I cant recommend Dr. Berhe enough! Took him both semesters and he is so incredibly caring and helpful. I don't like chemistry/organic chem very much but he made it interesting and easy to understand. I will say go to class!! Do the canvas chapter problems. There is bonus on every exam. Take him 100%.
the goat berhe is passionate, kind, loves to teach + exams are based on practice problems or questions he goes over in class, as long as you put in the time to study you will get an A
Very sweet and caring professor! Made OCHEM so easy. He pretty much teaches entirely through practice problems; he only explains general concepts once, so if you don't understand, ask him! Exams are your entire grade, but hint: do the optional practice problems. Attendance isn't required, but if you don't attend lecture, you probably won't pass.
Berhe is awesome!! Take him trust
Professor Berhe is the best professor ive ever had (no glaze) respect for this professor who seems like his passion is teaching student and getting them to an adequate understanding. You wont find a better ochem teacher I promise
Best Chem teacher I've ever had. All the grade is based on Exams tho, so just make sure to study. But he gives extra points if the whole classes struggled, and he asks what we prefer to see more of on the exam. You won't get a better ochem teacher, so make sure to take him.
My favorite professor of all time. He is truly heaven sent. He cares a lot about student success and if you ask him any question he always takes time to explain until you understand. Highly recommend!! He is the GOAT.
