He is hot
For a new prof, Seb is doing a really great job at Carleton. He knows how to teach well and he is a truly well rounded guy. I will say that the lectures are long and can be a bit dry. I will also say that you're going to do A TON of reading.... and i mean A TON!
He's a really nice, cool guy, but he can be pretty confusing. You definitely want to go to the lectures, and even more the tutorials.
Pretty great prof, very funny and loves to engage students. Has a thick accent which is sometimes hard to understand. Lectures tend to get long and boring, although he does like to crack a few jokes here and there. His review of exams is bang on, not much differs from the actual exam. Overall a good recommendable prof.
Shows up late for class and plays Iggy Izalea and Star Wars in class. Very French. Very interested in indigenous studies and lectures reflect this. Makes a lot of jokes, often off topic, makes for an interesting class at times.
Has a lot of funny stories to tell. Lectures are quite interesting, Assignments are reasonable Exams are extremely easy
Awesome prof! Outlines for assignments are clear and he is a very fair marker. Final exam is a breeze if you've been to most classes
Thoroughly enjoyed this class, the professor was hilarious and made it more interesting.
French and so funny!
Sebastian is so funny & makes all the information really fun to learn. He's french so his accent is pretty thick, but easy to follow when you're trying to. Slides are super detailed so you don't HAVE to go to class but lectures are full of hints for the exam. Buy the textbook and keep up with the cases! Assignment outlines are clear as day!
Professor Malette does a great job at explaining & clarifying terms. Go to lectures, do all the readings beforehand and make sure to listen because he always gives explicit hints as to what's important for the exam. (Did a "Crash Review" before the midterm, told you exactly what to focus on) Super nice guy & hilarious.
French accent, but easy to understand. TA's do the marking. Gives great review for exam. Reading a must. Gives great examples and slides are easy to read. Not to hard on the s either!
Malette is a great professor. His French accent is hard to understand at times, but he usually corrects himself and you can tell that he tries. He uses humour to drive his lectures to make them seem not as long, and usually gives a 10 minute break halfway through. Gives clear reviews before the midterm, but does assign a lot of reading.
I had him for my Law and Aboriginal Peoples class. He is very helpful, very straightforward in what he asks for in terms of assignments/readings/exams, and his class is not particularly stressful. Everyone else says his French accent makes him hard to understand, but I disagree as it is not very thick. Also uses alot of humor. Would recommend 100%.
Malette's accent is tough to understand, but the class is overall an okay class. His exam is straight forward and easy; attend class and you'll do well. Focus mainly on the slides and ignore the books that are assigned every week. :)
absolutely hilarious and extremely intelligent! Sebastien knows what he is talking about and you can tell he cares about what he is discussing. His exams are straight forward as well as his assignments. MUST attend lectures but his lectures are fun and go by fast. would definitely take his class again.
Awesome professor, very laid back and tries his best to make sure that everyone understands what he is teaching, very funny and hilarious man who is always telling jokes. Would definitely take another class of his again. Exams are super easy if you attend class.
One of my favourite Profs yet. He is very funny and approachable. He is very passionate about what he teaches, which makes you want to engage even more. He goes further than expected to ensure the class is keeping up with the info. This was by far one of the lectures I looked forward to going to each week. I would definitely take his class again.
Assigns 1 chapter from textbook per week. Chapters are about 100 pages long. Haven't read a single page yet. Still think I'll finish the course with at least a high 70.
love his class
He seems nice in lectures. But he is horrible with feedback. He doesn't return assignments on time so you basically don't even know what mark you have going to the exam. He is not good with emails either.
whenever he says "HINT, THIS WILL BE ON THE EXAM" it will literally be on the exam. Therefore, attend all the classes and mark every single thing down and you will receive 100% on the exam (which was a joke. everyone finished within 30-40minutes and it was a three hour MC exam. Essay is reasonable (10pages) and easy reading reponses i.e free marks
He kept it as fun as you can when you talk of such dry topics at times. He pretty much tells you whats on the final if you pay attention.
Solid guy; easy to talk to and was always open to schedule appointments outside of class. Always trying his best to help students.
Super attractive. Has a french accent so you have to focus on some of the things he says in order to understand. My favourite prof this year. Best dressed, very passionate about what he is teaching.
Malette is great! Some find his accent hard to understand knowing french helps since he will translate things from english to french and vise versa. Best dressed prof ever. Show up and pass, he tells u what will be on the exam and tells you what pages of the textbook to read if there is a difficult concept. One of the best prof's I've had this year
I love this guy. He explains things very well, he gives you lots of hints on what's going to be on the exam. The assignments are really straight forward and explained thoroughly. You will pass this class with a good grade even if you hate law.
Lectures can be a little dry at times, but worth going. Very knowledgeable prof. Didn't really use the textbook except for the final paper.
Sebastien, is on of the best profs I had all year. LAWS 1000 is generally a dry course but he is able to spice it up and make it enjoyable to learn. His review for the midterm and final very extremely helpful. He is very approachable and is generally quick on emailing back. He is a prof that will go over papers again if you didnt agree with the ta.
Sebastien is Cool and Charming. The only SCC that matters is this one.
I absolutely love haveing Prof. Malatte he makes law very interesting and fun to learn and that is very hard to do with law. Out of all my profs malatte is the only one I actually look forward to coming to and learning from. His french accent makes it even more interesting and fun to listen to and his occasional jokes or comments he makes it great.
Professor Malette makes coming to class something to look forward to. He's extremely funny and takes time to make sure his students understand what he's lecturing. He also makes the extremely dull and boring class less dull and boring. He uses pop culture to get his points across.
Super easy going and takes students into consideration. Explains everything and uses notes in the slides if their are words or cases that can't be understood easily. Makes law lectures not too bad because he tries to joke around with the lecture class and asks us life questions or tells us a funny thing. He has an accent but is easily understood!
BEST Prof. Don't go to class & you won't pass. Great atmosphere in class! Readings are optional but will help you understand better.
Amazing prof! Never out to make students fail even though law is a tricky subject. He went through all 80 FINAL midterm exam (fall) questions to make sure we understood and it was super easy and clear. Would take again in a heart beat.
I wrote something nice before, but the computer didn't believe I'm not a robot.... so it got deleted. Great prof, funny, exams are fair, would take one of his classes again.
Really upset he changed his slides to prezi. Way too fast and unorganized method of presenting, makes me not want to go to class. Sorry.
Seb is a great guy, his Metis heritage adds a unique perspective and clarity to the confusion surrounding Law and Indigenous peoples in Canada. You will have to read to understand his material, but he does his best job to present the materials honestly, and truthfully. He is a trailblazer for indigenous scholars, Miigwetch Sebastien!!
Honestly best teacher ever. I kinda wish that he taught more class in law. I would for sure take it. DO BUY THE TEXTBOOK!!!
Malette is an interesting one. First of all, everyone claiming this course is hard and that you need to go to class is flat out lying. I got a 70 on my midterm without studying and a 90 on my final with studying. His accent is unbearable sometimes and you can tell he translates his slides from french to English through a translator. Funny guy tho.
>talks about cryptocurrencies and aboriginals often >sticks to the slides >you can skip the class as long as you read the slides + readings >he doesn't explain his material, simply reads the slides word by word >he isn't really helpful as a instructor
Honestly, he's the best
Seb is such an amazing prof! He is very passionate about the law and you can tell by the way he gets into the subject matter. Class is not mandatory because he basically reads off his lecture slides but throughout the year he point out info that will be on the midterm and exam. Makes every class fun and I loved attending.
Only assigned two exams in a full year course. Exams were completely multiple choice. The class was hard but not terrible. I recommend not reading the textbook until the you're studying for the exam since the readings are long and you don't need to know all of them. Sebastien is a funny guy.
Awesome prof. Always energetic and engaged, comments on current events and will tell you a ton about his family. Really nice, will push due dates if the class really needs it. Assigned readings but don't need to do them always. Does read off slides, so can miss if you get the notes from them later. All around really good guy.
A freaking angel.
he's really funny, but it's mostly because he's going on about nonsense. his accent is very rough. his slides have lots of spelling errors. his assignments aren't super hard in theory but the cases and articles he bases them on are long and dry. throughout every lecture he tells you what to put a star beside for the exam which is helpful.
Great professor - very passionate about what he is teaching which makes students much more engaged. He is funny, and very personable. He assigned unreasonable reading volumes, but sets up the lectures to cover what's important. Would take again!!
Have taken 3 classes with Malette and enjoyed every one of them. His English can be a bit rough but honestly most the time it ends in a joke. His lectures are easy to follow along, funny and he drops exam hints every class. His exams are always open book and very straight forward, if you attend class and study its an easy A.
Malette is very kind and means well, but I would not take a course with him again. It is difficult to understand his lectures and his slides, and I am better off just reading the textbook rather than listening.
The lectures are fairly content heavy and although you could get away without reading the textbooks it's good to do so anyway. He'll make the occasional joke but is overall a bit of a boring lecturer. He will point out different things during lectures that will be on the final so don't skip. Had two 750 word essays and 75q multiple choice final.
Took this as an elective and tbh it was super boring BUT an easy pass. He jokes in class and the assignments are straightforward (only 2 of them) and the exam was exactly what he said to review so you weren't set up to fail. The content was very similar to grade 11/12 LAW in High school so if you took that, you're probably set. Overall good class.
Professor Malette is overall a great and funny guy. He makes the whole lecture hall erupt with laughter when he tells jokes. However, he is very hard to follow along with, and his lecture slides are all over the place. It was very hard to retain the information that he was teaching.
Exam was easy! But was cumulative so a lot of information. As a prof the guy makes no sense, lecture is boring and his spelling and grammatical issues make it hard to understand. Takes forever to get your marks back!!!!!
Malette is one of the funniest profs I have had, he tries to make the lectures interesting by making jokes. However, his French accent can be a little difficult at times to understand. His lectures are extremely boring and the slides are heavy. You definitely should show up to class if you want to pass. Overall, the exam was pretty easy.
Great prof. Does a lot to ensure that you pass with a great mark. He also makes the exam super easy to do well, including specific exam review, and open book final. He also makes lectures super entertaining.
So the Class I am in now isn't done yet but so far it has been fine. My TA was terrible though. She didn't read the case for the assignment and never talked about anything relevant to the course in discussion . She also just up and quit halfway through without marking our assignments . I really like the class overall if you don't count that .
Great prof! Makes his lectures fun and entertaining. Textbook is required but not needed to pass with a good grade. He basically gives you his whole exam in the review lecture. Easy marks.
i took it as law1002 (it used to be a full year course but got split). you don't need to do readings b/c he discusses it in class or it doesn't even ever come up. for the exam, he does expect you to know readings but he'll tell you which ones to know. i found what he said in lectures kind of unclear but manageable. the papers were super interesting
Really nice prof and interesting lectures. However, absolutely horrible TAs for his laws 1002 class, not sure if hes the one who chooses them or not.. Other than that would definitely give him a 10/10
Turns something of dry content into something entertaining and hilarious
One of my favourite Carleton University professors! Gives direct hints at what material will be tested. Lectures have a lot of slides but the material is extremely relevant and interesting. Strong French accent but does not distract because he is an amazing lecturer. Hilarious!!! Highly Recommend.
Great prof, funny, engaging and 10 out of 10 recommend
It can be difficult to understand his accent sometimes. He can be funny. I only used the textbook for PASS and the essays. Don't bother trying to email him. In person is the better option. He is forgetful and unreliable when you need accommodations for exams. His lectures were good though, no complains there.
Prof. Malette gives you every opportunity to succeed (extending deadlines for the entire class, hinting at exam questions during the lectures). He also tries to make boring content more engaging with his ... unique sense of humor (which I find hilarious). Only critique would be his lectures are a little hard to follow at times.
Professor Malette is a good teacher, but he can be hard to understand and he talks very fast so you better be a good note taker.
I actually liked going to his lectures because he is funny. He somehow finds a way to make boring material seem fun. If you go to class he will give hints for the exam and you will do very well. However, if you don't go to the class you will miss out on a great prof and you will must likely struggle. GO TO THE EXAM REVIEW LECTURE and the PASS exam
He is one of the best profs at Carleton. Very understanding and pushes due dates for both Assignments. In the last lecture, he gives a very in-depth review which covers 85% fo the exam.
Lectures were usually not that bad but sometimes hard to follow as well as we almost never made it through the entire powerpoint. He moved our due dates multiple times which was nice and if you do the reading you don't really need to attend the lecture or if you go to lecture don't bother with the reading, but you will have to teach urself some
Lectures are incredibly hard to follow and we would rarely get through and entire powerpoint. However, assignments and exams were quite fair. He gave an extension on both assignments and tells you a lot of questions that will be on the final exam. Overall lectures were brutal but the assignments and exams were not bad at all.
Malette is a very likable person and is generally funny, which helps keep the occasionally dry topic of law interesting. However, perhaps due to english not being his first language, his slides are often difficult to understand as many sentences are more or less incomprehensible. Despite this, his class is overall not too difficult.
Super funny prof. Does all he can to make sure that you have everything you need to get super high marks in the class. Acknowledges when the material he is teaching is kind of dull and tries to get through those sections as quickpy as possible. If you have the chance to take his class, do it.
He is very specific on what he wants you to do for the assignments GO TO THE REVIEW LECTURE - he will give you 85% of the exam but it ain't on the slides Honestly the little testing sometimes made me confused on what was important but the review lecture where he read off of the exam really helped
He's a King.
Amazing techer
Amazing prof. For context, our class this year was heavily impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. He was super understanding & accomodating. He is hilarious, mostly purposfully but sometimes also due to his heavy french accent. He makes law extremely interesting & throws in personal anecdotes that actually contribute to the topic. Great at answering Qs
Great Prof
Had him during the COVID-19 pandemic which forced all classes to go online - he handled the sudden change very professionally and remained very empathetic to the stress and anxiety that arose from the situation and ensured that we would succeed despite the change. He is a great prof, definitely want him to teach me again!
The best prof EVER, who truly wants his students to succeed and do well. A literal gem. Had him during COVID-19, and he's my only prof who actually continued to teach online, which goes to show what a great prof he is. Gonna miss not having him as my law professor next year, it's gonna be tough :(( WE LOVE U SEB, ur a real one.
Hands down one of my favourite law profs. He is very understanding and makes sure you clearly understand what is being taught in lecture. Makes lectures not boring and his assignments are fairly easy. He isn't about all memorization and is more on actually learning and understanding. Defiantly recommend taking his class 100%
Prof could benefit from better proofreading for course material, slides, etc, better materials to substantiate his thick accent and better response time to e-mails. I missed one paper deadline due to legitimate medical concerns which the university clinic would not provide a note for, and was failed as a result.
A really great professor, definitely cares about his students and has your best interest in mind. Had him during COVID-19 and he really did his best considering the situation to try and accommodate everyone that was now having to learn online. His lectures are hilarious and he kept them interesting!
loved this prof !! makes material understandable
Had professor Malette during COVID19 and was one of the only profs to continue with live online lectures. He TRULY wants every student to succeed and goes above and beyond to make sure this happens. On top of this, his humour is unmatched and tries his best to make even the borings lectures quick and fun! 11/10 if I could
Extremely entertaining in lectures which helps in paying attention and I enjoyed the lectures quite a bit more than my others as a result. He was also the only professor I had that continued with live lectures during the COVID crisis. Helps you by providing clear grading criteria for assignments and important topics that will be on the exam
One of the best Law Profs I'v had at Carleton. This man is not only funny but a nice guy. He really wants all his students to do well. He was a big help due to the extra stress from COVID. This man has COMPASSION for ALL PEOPLE. I wish I could take this class over again, but I will be looking out for more classes taught by him. Thank you, Malette!
His accent is hard to understand at times and he often goes on tangents. If you tune out for a second and then come back you're completely lost. He is really nice tho and passionate about law.
Super nice guy, cancelled class a lot which is not a bad thing but it made the exam kind of hard. Really funny and will make the class fun but sometimes spends too much time telling jokes that he rushes through the lecture and you're left to teach yourself the rest on your own.
Best prof at Carleton. I never missed any of his classes because I found his lectures so interesting. Never a dull moment in his class, v funny and his exam is easy. Assignments are very clear and he gives you the marking rubric the TA's use. He gets off topic a lot so it's kinda hard to keep track sometimes but overall, incredible professor.
The best prof I've ever had in university. Had him in first year and I'm now going into my last year. Truly an amazing guy and so good at what he does. If you can, take his class!!
I didn't do a single reading both semesters I had him, just attended all the lectures, and I did great. Malette is great - he's passionate and funny and does his best. He does a lot of helpful stuff like specific exam review and hinting at specific questions on his exams. Loved his classes!
I heard many good things about Professor Malette prior to selecting the class, but I am not enjoying one bit. I have a hard time understanding what he is talking about in the online real-time lectures, and he rambles a lot, which leaves us behind and at the end of the day more stressed out. His assignments are worth a lot and the TA's are not good.
I heard a lot of good things about Malette from students who had him in person. But if you're taking a class with him online? Lectures are super hard to follow and we're always behind. Great guy, super funny, and really flexible with deadlines, but I can tell the transition from in-class to online was not smooth for him at all.
He's so nice and just gave out extensions like it was nothing. He's really understanding and just a great prof overall. I always looked forward to his classes, wish I had him as a prof again.
I had a positive experience in this class. You can tell Professor Malette is passionate about what he teaches and it shows when attending the lectures. Assignments are easy to understand and he is flexible with deadlines. Only thing I had issues with was following along with the lectures. He got off topic a bit, but overall, it was a great class!
This was the one online class I actually looked forward to. Professor Malette explains class concepts perfectly and you can tell he is passionate about the subject and wants his students to succeed. On top of that he is also super funny and chill (he will definitely make you laugh if you take any of his classes). 10/10 Prof!
Gets distracted ALOT, even if we are behind he will spend 50 minutes on 1 slide that doesn't take long. He also goes off-topic a lot and talks about weird things that are unrelated. He does not reply to emails. He needs to communicate better with the TA's as well. He gave extensions on everything. Exam is lecture-heavy, didn't read the textbook.
If you rely on organized powerpoints, this ain't the man for you. BUT he really throws you a bone when it comes to the final exam, he's a real nice guy so he just really wants to save his students all the headaches he can. Also his lectures are quite entertaining, great first year pick.
His lectures were pretty interesting and tip, everything in his lectures are on his exam. I would not recommend purchasing the textbooks for this course barely contributed to my success in this course. the only problem I had with this course was that he didn't set us up to succeed for the written evaluations (two essays worth half our marks).
Great prof, obviously may be different online then in person but great guy and prof and I would easily have him as a prof again if I could!
This man was the weirdest prof, he wouldn't go a lecture without somehow talking about Grindr or something offtopic and kinda sexual. His assignments were fairly easy and you got enough information from the classes to pass but he made you buy his book which was not necessary at all. I wouldn't suggest buying either of the "mandatory" texts.
Prof. Malette is a real gem. He cracks jokes and keeps the lectures fun even in a virtual setting. I would gladly take the course again.
He always seems to fall behind and spends wayyy to much time on certain things then rushes through other stuff. Funny and nice but always seems to be late for class and cancels class last minute. Tutorials are not helpful at all unless you do not know how to write an essay. Prof mentions social media and dating apps at least 3 times a class.
A really nice guy but dear god save yourself the headache you will get from this class. Extremely disorganized power points and lectures, he gets insanely distracted, and you end up missing SO MUCH of the planned contents. Again, a really nice guy but not the class if you actually want to learn. Also, textbooks are completely useless.
Laws 1001 - do the assignments & you'll get an A Malette - Very disorganized, cancels class with a minute's notice, & doesn't respond to emails. Brings up grindr & rate my prof on the regular & spends too much time off topic, causing us to be behind in material. Hopefully won't hinder those of us taking more law classes in the future!
A great experience! Prof is caring and upfront with students and his lectures are very interesting. The readings are MASSIVE but they aren't entirely necessary to pass as he covers lots of content in class and ensures the class is set up for success on assignments/exams. Definitely worth taking.
Very thoughtful professor! Extended the due date for a major paper by more than a week, criteria and rubric for assignments as well as participation marks very clear, made the LAWS3504 class interesting! The textbook for this class is HELLA THICK though, approx. 100 pages per chapter for every week. However, still an interesting read.
Fun prof but he can't stay on topic for the life of him. It was really hard to follow along his lectures since he'd be all over the place but he still managed to make class pretty fun. I didn't do any of the readings and still passed with a decent mark. He also gave out a bunch of extensions to the entire class if you asked :)
Professor Malette was such an amazing prof. He was super helpful especially when it came to our final exam, and was extremely flexible with due dates for assignments. 10/10 prof even though he would go off topic in his lectures, he made them enjoyable and funny!
Prof Malette is a genuinely caring man, he cares about his students and the content, and his lectures slides are always posted after class so it is easy to keep up with content, he also really throws students a bone with the exam and helps out as much as he can.
Really amazing prof, super sweet and funny! Helped the students when studying for the exam. Super easy and flexible with due dates and wants his students to succeed. 10/10 recommend!
Prof. Malette was a great teacher who created a class with the intention of having everyone do well. Although he often got off-topic during lectures, as long as you take notes and do the assignments you will do well. The final exam was a piece of cake and you can definitely get away with not reading the textbook if you read the slideshows.
Very passionate with LAWS3504. Made it very easy to listen and engage. He understands and gives the whole picture view of what he talks about with little laughs here and there. I would take this class again just for the professor.
Professor Malette really cares about his students' success and mental health. Due to strikes occurring at the end of the semester, he changed the assignments with advice from his students. He also decided on an online exam, and throughout the semester gave hints as to the most important material to study.
This class is an easy A if you do your work, can get by without going to lectures (especially since half of the time he goes off topic anyways).
Prof Sebastian has to be the funniest most engaging Law prof at Carleton. He values student's mental health and has fun lectures. His slides can be phrased a little bit confusing, though. I took him for law 1001 and made sure to take him for law 1002 too due to how good of a prof he is. If you're in first year law, I recommend you take him 100%.
All I can say is that I love love love this professor so much and he is one of the best law professor's I have had. His lectures are intresting but sometimes has his transribed notes mixed up but thats fine since you can rearrange them. He actually wants students to understand his material and cares a lot about mental health. i highly recoomend him
Goes off on tangents just to flex his rhetoric muscle, almost every class involved a 30min monologue where he laments about the state of the world and tries to rally the class to action. The textbooks are never touched on, and he doesn't allow the TAs to attend lecture, so tutorials become meaningless. Slides are garbled and repeat information.
He is a pretty good prof, though he does get off topic a lot. The stories he tells are always still relevant with what he was supposed to be talking about. The best thing about his class is that the final exam is an online, open-book exam.
His slides don't make a lot of sense and even at lectures when he explains, it doesn't make much sense. Tutorials helped clear things up. Not a fan of how 2 short (~750 words each) written assignments are worth 50% of your grade. I don't think 750 words should determine 25% of your grade (needs a higher word limit). Test was easy. He's nice though.
For context, I am a CS student. Didn't read the texts once, I just typed up notes and noted down whenever he said something was important. Two essays worth 25% each, but TA's are nice. 15% tutorial attendance (ez), 35% final (online MCQ). Overall a great professor that sheds light on indigenous issues and how we can make a difference!
Very interesting lecturer, he is very easy to listen to and is an overall nice guy!
bro was a very easy professor because the class was in person but the exams were online which is key in law, he talks about how he wants his students to succeed. He does go off topic a lot and just starts yapping but he is overall pro students and gives good advice
Did not like him at all as a lecturer, heavy French accent that was confusing most of the times. He spoke for an hour and a half about the objectives of the class, and was never able to get through the whole slides during a lecture. Assignments were easy and exam was open book but I could never concentrate in his class. It was very confusing
Class was easy, great to deal with for assignment appeals. Certain required readings crucial for the exam. Lecture slides have majority of exam material do not necessarily need to attend lectures.
His a great proff, would recomand 100%. Some say its hard to comperhand because of his accent, but his more than fine. take his class trust me, its worth it.
Looking for an easy law class to pretty much take at your own pace? Malette's lectures are for you, he doesn't cover too much of the topic beyond what his slides read and readings are optional though relevant for the exam. He's caring for students and grades generously for a first-year class, I took him in Fall 2022.
Professor Malette's class was an interesting experience. While he sometimes got off-topic, his lectures were engaging and he was flexible with assignments. Using Unstuck AI alongside the provided materials really helped me ace the open-book final exam.
Very talkative but a very nice professor. He is super funny and actually wants you to pass. We had a case brief, mini essay, and a final that was online multiple choice. He recommended you get a textbook but he knows it is expensive so he put everything you need in his slides. Just take good notes on his slides and you'll do totally fine
Professor Malette is a pretty easy going prof, his final exam is online open book which makes it easy to do, he will give you whats on the assignment at the last class. Reading isn't required but can help. Beware, he will go on tangents about random stuff not related to the lecture at all, but he does care. Only 2 assignments and a final exam.
Prof malette is a great professor. The lectures are accessible outside the class through the slides, and attendance was not mandatory for lectures. If you go to a lecture be prepared for the professors off topic tangents he goes on regularly, but otherwise super nice guy. Assignments were clearcut and on the easier side, I would take again for sure
The lecture slides for this class were long and often made very little sense however they were accessible outside of class so that's a plus. The prof goes on tangents almost every class but he's super nice, his assignments are clear and the grading is pretty lax. overall not bad for a mandatory class.
Graded off very few things, but he does tell you what's going to be on the exam at the last class. Pretty clear cut assignments, but look at the rubric carefully. Attendance isn't mandatory, but can help. He goes off on random long tangents all the time, and it can take him a bit to go through few slides. He is always happy to answer questions.
Course graded by 1 critical essay, case brief & online final with 85ish questions in an hour and 30 mins. Follow grading criteria to the tea and you will be set for a A+. Attendance isn't mandatory neither is readings as it's in his slides. SHOW UP TO HIS LAST CLASS FOR HINTS FOR THE FINAL! Can miss up to 2 tutorials as well.
His accent is easy to understand, he has a open book, online exam and no quiz, I would suggest to go to class because he drops hints / tells you what's on the exam on the last day, and ideas for assignments throughout the course. He tries to keep his lectures light and if you ask questions (even obvious ones) he is kind and answers. 10/10
Great professor! Really funny, his lectures are interesting you can really tell he knows and loves the subject, has great energy! Also very helpful, he prepares you for the exam really well. Textbook and readings arent even mandetory, his notes go over everything.
His lectures were fun because he clearly enjoys talking about law, but he goes off on tangents too much, and we were constantly behind on course material. Projects and final exam were easy, you can easily get away with skipping the textbooks and just reviewing his slides.
Sebastien is an outstanding professor! His lectures are rich in information & demonstrate his deep knowledge of the subject. He makes learning enjoyable with his humour and fosters a relaxed environment. Additionally, he is also very supportive in exam preparation, providing plenty of help to ensure students excel. 100% will take his classes again!
Sebastien is a wonderful law professor. He helps students prep for exams more than any other professor. He is funny, and although his lectures are information heavy, he ensures students are supported. He is very educated on law and shares a lot of stories that help make the course interesting. I will certainly be taking more of his classes!
Goes on too many tangents but overall he's an okay prof, clearly very passionate about law. Assignments and the final exam were all very easy and he literally tells you exactly what to study for. Most of the readings were not necessary unless he specifically mentioned them in the list of things to study for the exam.

Just take his class.
Awesome course!
He is a funny professor and very nice. However, he is unorganized, but the material was easy to grasp. The course consisted of two assignments, tutorial attendance, and a final exam. If you go to the lectures, you will do fine.
Prof Malette is great, he talks a lot and rarely gets through material as he sidetracks a lot and talks too much. He focuses more on his notes rather than what he is saying. He gives breaks and sometimes lets us off earlier. Accent is not hard to understand at all, he is very funny, took him both semesters def recommend you take his class.
Extremely hard to reach outside of class. Granted he was sick for some weeks but there were so many crucial things to address that I just wasn't able to reach him about. Lectures were extremely mindbending -- I wouldn't consider myself experienced in the subject matter, and it feels like I'm in the minority, but I really struggled to follow along.
easy marker and understands students needs. lectures are impossible to understand, just read off the slides your own time and youll be fine
He has very good lectures and explains things well. There are only two assignments graded by TAs and a final so not a lot of work. Read the textbook if you want to understand more of what's going on
Everyone is lying to you saying he's a good lecturer. He speaks non stop and goes on tangents about things that are irrelevant to the class and wastes time so you're behind all year. The slides are so text heavy and he makes the text small so you can hardly read it. Assignments were difficult to understand but easy enough once you got started.
Great professor
