Great but difficult marker.
Ease up on the marking.
hard marker
No Comments
Amazing lectures. He gives a lot and expects the same back.
Clear lecture style. Lots of office hours. Knows how to teach. The *course* is difficult, but he does an excellent job of getting the content across.
makes a hard class easy and understandable. Exams are fair. Final is too long.
Very hard marker !!! I was in b+ i dropped to d+ pretty hard course though have to all assignements!! to understand whats REALLY going on!~~
I like this guy. He's hard, but fair. His class is interesting though. Loved the mummy costume on halloween!
Robidoux is a smart man, and he actually teaches the course. If you're looking for an easy class, look elsewhere. Stop complaining and do the work delinquents. Master's of Organic gon' crrr yo ass!
I had him in both organic 2 and 3... He migh be solely responsible for me not getting into Grad school, not that i'm not going to get it, but if i fall just a little short, it'll be HIS fault. For God sake the man in just tough, don't be fooled by the ones that liked him, he aint good, period.
This guy is hard. Exams can be on anything and I do mean anything he mentioned in class or that is in the text. Incidently the textbook was horrible as well. Of the 3 assignments, none were finished marking by the last day of class.
The course is hard but fair, Robidoux explains it clearly . If you dont understand something, go see him and hell clear it up. I can honestly say this is the best chemistry teacher ive ever had
attend classes and pay attention to lectures, not a very nice guy nor very fair but very helpful and clear
Explains very well. U have to attend his lectures to understand the course. no very easy exams, & his marking is not that fair. very picky.
I was never a fan of organic, but I have to give the man some credit- he's a great teacher. His explanations are crystal clear. I never cracked open the txtbook and aced his class (just write detailed notes and do practice probs). Really great teacher!
What can I say about this guy that has not been said? He is a sick **** who makes up crazy hard exams (CRAZY). His class averages a D+ and there is no way around him. How many students' GPA's is this man gonna destroy? Lord have Mercy!!! EEEEEnolate!!! This guy makes the whole program suck and he teaches like 5 classes.
What can I say?- You've got to work hard to do well and even though he's a tough marker, he is always available for help if you need it. His notes are good but exams are hard.
If u can make it in his class and pass- all the other chem courses with other profs will seem like a piece of cake. Exams are TOUGH(u want an easy exam?) but from his notes--- if you know ur material- u pass.
Really good teacher. You understand the material with him. Tough marker though (uptight and picky). Midterm and final not that hard, but NMR questions sucked rocks. Dont really need the book (but it's good), just go to class and write down EVERYTHING he says (EEEnolates and all). Also available for afterclass help. GO TO SL! Angelique is a saviour!
the best prof i had in my life . he knows the stuff he teaches. man when he teaches does his best to let people understand the material he is explaining.
very good prof..excellent notes, the text book is not really needed..however, his exams are pretty hard, he is a picky grader and is a very slow grader. But overall, its worth having him as a prof
HARD! Don't do it unless you're forced! I put in hours a week on this course and got a C.
good at explaining in class, doesn't like students that have the "audacity" to see him outside of class. possibly anti-semitic, but hard to confirm because he's nasty to everyone. oh, and for optimal examination performance, write everything you can even after answering the questions fully.
He is a great eacher but he is a hard marker. He explains well and NMR questions are from hell. He is quite a character, he reminds me of Jack from Will and Grace. Have fun!
Unbelievably great teacher!!! He makes me want to change from a biology to a chem major. Seriously. If you understood chem 221, you will love his class. The key to success in his class is to write dowm (record) everything he says. Things he says, and does not write on the board, are the most important. He is funny and a great 'explainer.'
You wouldn't know how much EFFORT I put into this class, and it seems like it all went to waste. For some odd reason I kept failing all the midterms, all the lab exams...is it because I didn't understand anything? YES!!! A million time YES!! I ended up passing though...maybe he felt sorry for me.
This is a class that EVERYONE has trouble with. Going to class provided lots of help, but the relative teaching methods which he excels at is compensate by a TOUGH exam (midterm and final). You don't memorize in this class, you learn and understand or you fail. Be very weary of spectroscopy in this class, for that is his major.
Becareful, his tests are really hard
Don't try and learn Organic 2 on your own. Go to class and your life will be much easier. He tells you exactly what he expects in class so take down everything he says. As well, don't be scared to go to see him if you don't understand something, he will take the time to explain things to you. Greatest teacher ever!!!!
What a tricky teacher. the funny part once a girl got an A plus in his class the next day you find out the poor girl died due to an accident. He is not a good teacher at all you go to his office he gives a face telling you just leave me alone! If you have a choice not taking him use it man........worst teacher ever
He is very clear. Though the exam is not so easy.
WELL, i HAD ORG2 WITH HIM AND I REALLY DIDN'T DO WELL.PEOPLE SAY HE IS HELPFUL IF YOU GO TO HIS OFFICE.I SAY FIRST OF ALL WHY CAN'T HE BE HELPFUL ENOUGH IN CLASS THAT I SHOULD GO SEE HIM AT HIM OFFICE AFTER CLASS.SECOND OF ALL WHEN YOU GO TO HIS OFFICE THERE IS ALWAYS ATLEAST 5-7 PEOPLE WAITING TO SEE HIM SO IT'S NOT VERY EASY TO GO SEE HIM AT ALL.
You must show up to class or else you will be lost. Hard exams but fair. The only problem is he seems to think that students have all the time in the world and are only taking his class. Doing 10 page lab reports that are worth less than 1.5 percent each doesnt help much I guess.
Dr. Robidoux is one of the better teachers at Concordia. His explanations are crystal clear and he provides you with all the resources you need to do well. He's hardly as brutal as what some will lead you to believe. Having said that, this course definitely requires work, but if you do work hard, the exams will be a breeze.
Like All his Organic Classes, In order to succeed, you will have to write down everything he says, He will give crystal clear explanations, but will not express them on the board. Write down every word that comes out of his mouth and you will not have a problem.
Even though open book exams, you have to read and work everything he said in class. Otherwise you will just not have time just by searching through the book for the answers because the exams are long even if you know your stuff!
Absolutely hard marker. CHEM 393 with this prof was like learning how to write the exams HIS way instead of learning the stuff needed in the real world. Damn Concordia for its policies that students have to withstand this kind of teachers.
His exams are difficult. He always tries to trick you and he always asks things that you have never seen in class. He enjoys giving people a hard time. No matter how much you study and seem well prepared it's just not enough with him.
Extremely hard prof. The only one who teaches this class and you HAVE to go through him. Single hardest class in the program just because of his examination methods. If you are truly a Chemistry lover, a prof like that will push you hard. If you're like most students, a prof like that will ruin your GPA. Strict grader. Go take the class at Mcgill.!
I think what must be said bout this prof have been said by many (killer exams, picky, etc.). I'll add that he acts all nice in class telling students to go see him in office if you have problems or questions. But when you DO go see him, you'll notice a different person and mostly end up as if you never went. Save the time and look on your own!
Absolutely the most disliked chemistry teacher in ConU. Skips crucial details but tests them in exams. Acts nice in class but he is a double face in private. The only thing you will learn from him is to write the exams his way and there's nothing practical with respect to the work in the real world. His style is a reflection of his personality. Welcome to ConU.
Guys learn to write exams the way he asks. Because otherwise you will fail or ypu will end up with a bad grade. Unfortunately u can not avoid him because he is the only one teaching this class, therefore go take this class elsewhere, at UdM this class is open book exam!
Everyone told me I was going to have a really hard time but this class ended up being very interesting! He is challenging but if you go to class, listen and practice you can get a good grade. He is one of the best professor I had until now!
He's a great teacher. He's clear, his notes are perfected but beware: You need to know everything for his test/exams!. Don't fool yourself, except for a few biosynthesis (he's doesn't like) it will be on that test! He is there to help you but only during his office hours which could be annoying. Otherwise, fantastic teacher. Oh ya, Grown up Nerd!
Dr. R is the best teacher in the Chemistry department, but he is also the hardest. For Org 3: Pay attention in class and read the course pack either immediately prior or after (the next day or weekend) class, and you will be good for the midterm (final is a wild card, either mad hard or RELATIVELY easy).
Great teacher, hard examiner. For Spectroscopy, you need to know EVERYTHING theory wise pruior to going in, if you need to reference a theory question you will not end the exam. Very timed constraint but he will grade realistically, in spec he looks for 15 things and grades on 12 (not those exact numbers, but the general idea).Study, know your book
Don't be fooled. He's tough. but if you take this course with him, you are guaranteed to understand more about organic chemistry than any other school in quebec. He is the KING!
Having a class with Robidoux means you have to be up to date every single week. He will have surprise quizzes on material he has previously covered. His midterms are doable but very challenging! You must practice in order to go good in hid exams. His finals are always brutal, but like i said, attending his classes and practising his problems helps!
I've taken professor Robidoux for both Organic 3 and Natural products and what i can say is that he is BY FAR the BEST chemistry teacher at concordia university! Yes he is very demanding and also very chalenging but if you want to properly understand organic chemistry... then take him..PS: His exams are very hard.. Know notes inside out..
He is the best.....just one thing.... SURPRISE QUIZZES! Be prepared.
Midterms are more difficult than the final exam, because they're more specific. Attend the class before any big test, he will give you small hints. Focus on the main functional groups. Study the theory, especially those covered in class, but not too in depth. Good luck.
Robidoux is the best chemistry teacher you will find @ ConU.Chem393 is a very detailed class where u must know the theory & concepts of the material. His surprises quizzes forces u to be up to date with the content of the course! You must attend class & practice at least twice a week for 8hour s if you want at least a B+.Class b4 midterm is crucial
explains very well. his tests can be hard. he's not a bad guy, he's an awesome teacher. take him if you can. he's a very nice person. ATTEND THE TUTORIALS PRIOR TO EXAMS, you'll learn a lot with him.
He is the BEST professor you will find in Concordia. If you are one of those who is really good at reading books by yourself and only coming to class for exam and get an A, then you will survive, but I am telling you, its best if you attend all his lectures, because trust me, you WANT to learn from him.
I am not in a chemistry program, but this professor made me LIKE chem and actually consider taking more classes. He is hard though. He is picky about certain things in his exams, but he also gives partial marks for valid points! That's honestly what saved me. You will actually enjoy organic chem with him, but be prepared to work for your grade!!!!
Great teacher, you will learn a lot about Organic Chemistry, and want to attend every class. He gives quizzes once in a while on material already taught which are basically free marks. He is pretty strict on grading though, but if you know your stuff you can easily get 90+
Don't expect to have easy A. He knows is stuff and is helpful but watch out in the midterms they are not that difficult but you always miss time to finish it. He provides midterms from past years but don't expect to have the same thing, he always ask something you never saw previously. The final was fair but not easy.
I absolutely adore professor robidoux. I am not particularly smart or gifted in chemistry, and he genuinely made me excited to come to class and inspired to finish my degree. He is by far the most well-informed professor I have ever had, and he is so so kind and humble. I am taking his org 2 and 3, i refuse to have anyone else!
This teacher is very good and very helpful but he is a harsh grader. he picks up points for every little details in exam: you can have all good answers and get a 40% on his exam. He is very helpful and you will learn a lot with him.
Has amazing notes, but i believe he is a harsh marker. Even if you prove that the answer is somewhat correct, he will still find a way to take off points.
Phenomenal teacher.. Very entertaining but he is an extremely picky grader. He tells you exactly what he expects you to know for the midterms but dont expect to get 100. Very knowledgable professor.
heres the true deal! he will make you work very hard, but put in the work, learn to WORK FAST (cuz he excepts you to do the impossible and some huge exams in 30mins), and you will do well. he really cares about this students and knows everyone by name. CLEAREST lecture around who does problem solving, and has lots of office hours. he rocks
He is honestly an amazing teacher. People kept scaring me with organic chemistry and i thought it was going to be the hardest class but it turned out to be a good class. He is a very tough marker so i suggest you go see him with sample midterms to get an idea of what he expects on the test. Also, ATTEND THE SL SESSIONS. Its really useful.
He is a really picky grader, you must know your notes by heart or almost, and work regularily or you'll get lost during lectures. On the other hand, he really helps the student, answers every question, makes tutorials and more office hours before finals. Great teacher but tough grader.
He is a very good teacher though a tough grader. Do not skip his class because there are quizzes. Be careful when doing the exams, do not forget any details in the reactions or mechanisms or you will lose marks
Dr. Robidoux is the ideal science professor. I've taken 4 of his classes. If your willing to work, you can always do well in his classes because there is logic and consistency in them so you know what you need to do. If he taught all my classes, I'd both know more and have better grades. Of course, most students don't do well in his classes.
He is by far the most amazing teacher at concordia! You will learn so much with him. If you put the work and review your things you are pretty much guaranteed and A! I think his test are very fair but he is a picky grader! Go see him with the practice exams at his office before doing the exam and you can get over 90 in all the exams!
He is a very good teacher! Many times in class he will tell you EXACLY what he is looking for on your exam which is convenient, just memorize his explanations. I had him for organic I and II, and the first was so easy but the second is so much more demanding! All in all, study A LOT and go see him all the time. DO NOT SKIP CLASS.
IF U WANT TO LOVE ORGANIC CHEMISTRY, TAKE IT WITH ROBIDOUX BEST LECTURER EVER!
What a guy! I took 3 of his classes. The course criteria were always clear and the exams reflected the curriculum. He would always be thorough in providing feedback in his office hours, but don't expect help or sympathy if you have no idea what is going on in class; do your homework. I loved the challenge.
If you're in behavioural neuroscience... take a prof who grades less strictly or DO NOT take a full course load, focus on this subject. If you actually want to learn organic chemistry, take him but make sure to never miss a class and go see him in office hours even if you feel totally lost, it's a must and he is super nice and patient 1 on 1
AMAZING TEACHER! I had him both for org 1 and 2 and by far the best teacher I've EVER had at concordia. Some teachers are a blessing. He really make such a hard class so interesting!
Lectures are very organized & tests are fair. Do not expect to do problems in class only theory so SL sessions are essential. He is a VERY picky grader, learning how he marks is a class within itself. I would highly recommend attending as many SL sessions as possible otherwise the questions on his exams may come as a surprise. CANT SKIP CLASS!
I struggled in his class in the beginning, but did really well for the final. If you don't go to go see him with the practice tests, then his marking appears really hash. Once I had time to finally see him, I understood exactly what he wanted and did really well on the final, which as a result allowed me to pass his class. Take time to go see him.
His courses have been the toughest I've ever taken, due to the material and his pickiness in grading. However, he's the gold standard of an amazing prof, explains organic with ABSOLUTE thoroughness, and tells you what exam questions will be. Don't fall behind, go to SL, and practice everything frequently! If you want to learn org, he's the guy.
I've learned so much with Dr. Robidoux and I wish I had him for organic 1 and 2. Be ready to put in your best effort and thoroughly study the material right after you learn it because it's really easy to fail and fall behind. PRACTICE!!! Presents the material and the grading scheme very clearly. Very available. Clarifies what he'll test us on.
Dr. Robidoux is amazing. I took him for org 1, 2 & 3 and I can honestly tell you that he is one of the best teachers at Concordia. He's a tough grader but organic is a hard subject, especially org 3. He makes you work for it, in a way to understand the material. There are surprise quizzes but they help you keep on top of things. Do NOT fall behind.
Hands down one of the best teachers in Concordia. He is very thorough when going through the material and tells you exactly what you need to know for the midterm. !!! Make sure to go to his office hours after doing the sample midterm because its very similar to the midterm so he can tell you in details what he expects!!!
His teaching style works really well for me, his reactions makes sense. Take notes on everything because he doesn't post anything online, but his tests are exactly like samples he gives. If SL is available I found that was really helpful to stay on top of course material, at the end of org 2 the course really speeds up with reactions so be ready.
Best professor (period!). He knows how to break down complicated topics and teaches them with such organization and clarity, and this just shows how well his lectures are thought-out. Nonetheless, it's a tough class, but if you write down all the notes well (including what HE SAYS), go to SL and review regularly, you will learn SO much.
Dr. Robidoux is one of the greatest teachers out there - this comes with a cost though as his exams are literally the hardest I've ever come across. Writing down every detail he mentions is essential, as well as going to SL if you want above a C. He made me love organic chemistry! I had an A- in the course but tanked the final (don't do that)
Clear notes, fair exams midterm and final, very accessible in his office hours. Do his sample exams and get them corrected by him before each exam because his tests are very similar Overall really great teacher and it isn't hard to do well in his class
Difficult class, with a very picky teacher.. If you listen to what he wants, and you ASK HIM QUESTIONS this class is very doable. Would definetly learn more from Robidoux
Explains everything clearly and goes through it all on the board. This is a naturally difficult course, but there are multiple evaluations. Definitely keep up with pop quizzes though, theyre worth 10% which may be important in the end because his final is long and he is super harsh in correcting. Lab is also a place to help raise your grade.
Loved this professor. Very clear in lectures. SL was very helpful and I went to all 4. Do his practice tests and go see him to get them graded beforehand to know what he exactly wants. He is very fair and gives you everything you need to succeed. Love this man.
I don't understand all the love for this teacher. I agree he explains competently, but he does not adequately prepare you for his tests (doing every practice problem and recommended problem isn't enough), and he is a very harsh grader. His class is incredibly discouraging. Maybe he works for others, but I would try to avoid him whenever I could.
Totally agree with previous comment. Even though I got an A I dont agree with his teaching. He doesnt give all resources to succeed. Attend SL if you want to pass/get good grade. I would add few more things about him: skips important parts but tests them on exams, which makes around 30% of problems unsolvable unless you know missing parts of info
If you're taking organic II at Concordia, Robidoux is a solid choice. He really knows his sh!t but sometimes has trouble explaining concepts to students who don't already have a good understanding of organic. If you get the choice, Wildes' classes and exams are identical but he's a gentler teacher and an easier grader. Go to the SL tutorials.
Robidoux is over rated.. His midterms are tough. He shows the basics in class but then puts hard material on the midterm. His way of grading is very strange too. You can get the correct answer but if it is not written "his way" he will mark it as wrong. Also students with disabilities everyone in the class will get your extra time too. Very unfair.
Robidoux is okay... I find he likes to test students based on traps and tricks which of course is not fair at all.. What is the point of testing a student's knowledge if all your testing are trick questions? Of course students will get it wrong. You definitely must attend SL's if you want to pass/do good in the class.
Worse prof I had. The modules seemed all over the place about random facts without any structure and understanding behind it, making the class not engaging AT ALL. Also, he did not assign a textbook, he assigned readings throughout the semester, many of which were in French and that he DID NOT provide a translation. Horrible prof.
Instructions for assignments in CHEM204 are extremely unclear, and graders are harsh--they remove marks arbitrarily, without even citing the "grading scheme", which ultimately is meaningless. DO NOT RECOMMEND. I was SO excited about this class, and I regret taking it SO MUCH. (And I am a straight-A student.)
Lectures are all over the place with 50000 random historical facts and no theme nor flow. There's subtopics upon subtopics upon subtopics in each lecture that makes them take 5 to 6 hours each to get through. Excessive deadlines and assignments with ridiculously vague instructions - it's like taking a shot in the dark. Fix the course!
He is an amazing lecturer, keeps the class engage. No need a textbook as he provides free online lecture material. Midterms and pop-quizzes are fairly easy but the final was brutal. He has a specific way to answer questions in the test, so if you do as he asks you should be able to get full marks.
He is a good lecturer but does not use slides so it is important to attend every lecture. I was really impressed with his communication with the class with all that has happened this semester. He is a hard marker so make sure to do the practice exams as they are similar. Attend SL sessions so you don't fall behind.
Class taken in Summer 2020. Prof. Robidoux is a very nice, respectful and amazing Chem teacher. He makes sure to demonstrate efficiency and quick solution to problems. His grading schemes reflects everything he teaches and it is on point. His quizzes are a bit challenging, and he explains them the next class. You will not be disapointed with him!
FALSE RATINGS AVOID AT ALL COST
I'd already taken this course in cégep long ago & had to retake it at here as a prerequisite, I remember chemistry being easy & getting good grades. This teacher made the entire class dreadfull and the lectures felt as a review/tutorial instead. His quizzes and tests were absurdly difficult and vague with no feedback after. The TUT can't save you
Best CHEM222 professor! The class is tough in a way that you have to attend it in order to pass, since most of the crucial information for midterms and finals is given in the class. He does not use books and instead gives free online material to read, which is complete and comprehensive. No real lectures slides. Exams and midterms are fairly hard.
Some of the ratings on here seem quite sketchy! Tbh the SL sessions are more useful than the lecture itself. Just like the previous comments have mentioned, he only tests you on tricks. Reviews don't lie.
He's a very understanding professor. I really thought chem293 would be difficult, but he made it easier for the students. The activities on visual classrooms and the tutorials help me a lot to understand the course. His exams are fair. He adjusted the structure of the exam because of the pandemic, he's very nice.
I like his dedication on teaching the course. Just do the exercises/activities and the sample tests before the exam, and you'll be fine. He has this positive aura, he always greets the class with a big smile. I never got bored in class (although it's in zoom) because he sometimes makes funny comments. He's very nice!
I wish Robidoux would be more organized in giving proper activities that matches his classes. He is quick to teach during classes. Labs are the best but his tests are brutal. You really need to go to the SL sessions but before that, you need the basic knowledge of what his class entailed so you don't feel dumb going in sessions.
Dr. Robidoux is a very knowledgeable guy. I like the way he teach this course during this pandemic, a lot of activities in Visual Classroom but they really help me a lot not to get behind. Participate in the activities, redo the sample finals, go see him when you have questions then you'll be fine.
Great prof, cares a lot, it is better to attend
Dr. Robidoux is a great prof, he explains very enthusiastically in lectures and is very caring. He makes the material seem easy and is always straight forward about what is going to be tested. The midterms were fair, the final was very direct with the typical difficulty of chem 222.
He is too hard on students. Theres a difference between testing students knowledge vs testing a students based on loop holes. His exams are beyond difficult for org2 and org3. I've never had a teacher grade so hardly on students. He is way too difficult and hard on everyone.
Dr. Robidoux is honestly one of the best teacher there is. He is extremely caring and really tries his best to make your life easier. You obviously have to go to class and his exams are really hard but fair. Even Though I didn't got a good grade, he is almost making me like Organic Chemistry which is a first. Don't neglect his in class activities!
Listen, the people saying he doesn't care probably didn't go to class. This guy knows what he's talking about but does expect you to work. If you actually learn the material outside of class and PRACTICE you'll do perfectly fine. You really need to work for this grade but he gives you every single tool needed to do so- it's up to you to solidify.
Took this class as one of my optional courses and don't regret it at all! He's the best professor I had so far: provides a lot of material for students, uploads videos explaining the most important chemical reactions, and cares for students. Organic Chemistry is a difficult subject and you would definitely need to study and attend class!
I took 324 because the class I'm taking isn't there. He is currently teaching mathematics in 11th grade, and I'm in his class while I'm typing this, and he doesn't mind because my grades are excellent. He tries to help people who don't understand and likes to joke. He's a nice teacher, would 100% be his student again later on.
