Professor Selene is absolutely amazing. She is so approachable, caring, and super intelligent! She ALWAYS was there to help anyone who needed the extra support and made it a point to get to know each and everyone of her students. This class was not easy and required lots of effort. If your willing to work and advocate for yourself you'll be fine.

It is essential to advocate for yourself in this class! With the lecture and Lab back to back, the beginning of the semester is extremely overwhelming. You'll save yourself a lot of stress and confusion by visiting her on a weekly basis. Thats just the way it is if you want a decent grade. She has so much insight, really made biology come alive!

I took Miles summer class and do not suggest it. It is barely passable and theres not enough time to learn the material. I am not sure how different it would be in a full semester. I'm guessing it would be easier having more time to understand the material. More than half the class dropped over summer. The people who sat at my table barely passed.

I would not recommend her, she isn't up to date when it comes to grading. SHe gives you small slits which tell you, how your doing in her class but yet doesn't explain fully. When the class is behind in lecture she goes through the slides quickly and expect you to just write it down and not understand the material.

Professor just uses lectures that she recorded during quarantine and doesn't teach as much during lecture. Way too much homework compared to other classes would not recommend if you are taking other courses as well. Picks and chooses who she decides to help, and is not lenient whatsoever. By far worst professor I've taken.

I don't think Prof. Mile's teaching style has evolved since the pandemic. The lectures are online and years old. She brings a plastic starbucks everyday while teaching about sustainability and climate change. Lots of personal anecdotes and giving way too much time to simple concepts, not focusing on what will be on the test. Stay away!! Seriously.

There was no reason for this class to be as hard and time-consuming as it ended up being. Every week, i would have at LEAST 7+ assignments, each of them being long, tedious, and so unnecessary. I understand this is a Biology class and by default, is time consuming due to studying. But this professor really did not help ease the workload. Stay away

This was one of the toughest classes I have taken so far although Biology is time consuming I found it a bit absurd that there was countless homework. The most disappointing was the answer keys for exams being wrong there was at least 2-3 questions wrong. She was a nice person and willing to meet with you to help you pass but graded harshly.

DO NOT TAKE PROFESSOR MILES. take this advice now and you will save your self. Besides being in a 4 hour class, you still have 7+ assignments to complete by the next day. her lectures and explanations are vague and is no help at all, not to mention tests every week. She is very picky with grading. in fact picky about everything, its unnecessary.

The lectures in class were pointless, she didn't teach well and expected the class to know everything from her online and prerecorded lectures from Covid-19. If you want to really learn biology, take this class. Yes the homework is heavy and can be time consuming, but you're being graded for learning. Most homework submitted through canvas, maybe a handful of physical assignments to turn in. Don't expect to get a good grade just by showing up. Studying and homework submissions are critical to pass.

Professor Miles is a great teacher. She wants you to learn and is easily accessible outside of class if you're struggling.
