Has a heavy accent and the recitation leaders have heavier accents. Had to learn everything on my own.
She is very nice, but not helpful at all really. Weird office hours. Hard grader. Terrible recitation teachers. And, I've taken Pre-Calc before.
She was my professor when it was her first semester here, and it showed. Her teaching was disorganized and all over the place. She has a heavy accent, but the recitation teachers have stronger accents. There would be 10 kids at her office hours each time, so she'd rush through material I really needed help on.
Selin is generous with her time, even schedules private appointments as needed. She's patient & light-hearted. She speaks clearly & straight to the point. Her tests are the same, straight-forward & average difficulty. The difficult questions in homework function as they should, as tools to improve your fundamental understanding. I'm a Big Fan.
She's extremely helpful and fair with grading. Best calc teacher I've ever had! Really takes the time to sit down with you beyond office hours. She has an accent but it's the easiest to understand compared to all the other calc professors at NYU. You can tell she's really passionate about teaching and is good at teaching too, not just good at math.

Best math professor I've had so far. Firstly, she speaks English very well - which is a huge plus in the NYU math department. Secondly, she really cares about her students' performance and understanding of the concepts. Classes were hands-on (we had packets every class to work with her) and she was always available for office hours.
Selin is extremely talented. She takes great pains to make sure she's not leaving anyone behind. Her lectures are really clear and easy to follow. The quizzes are written by the TA's and tend to be harder than what you'll see on Selin's exams. She genuinely wants everyone to learn. The exams are fair- no bad surprises like some other professors.
Really nice
I took Selin's class for QR Math Patterns in Nature I LOVED her. SO nice, the best teacher, really willing to help you, loves math and loves teaching. I really suck at math, didn't do that well, but i LOVE her.
I took Quantitative Reasoning: Elementary Statistics with Selin. She is so nice and a great professor. Her explanations are extremely clear. I am horrible at math and I got a good grade. She is also really funny and has a cool accent. Great professor overall.
Great Pre-Cal and Calculus teacher. Very attractive, approachable, articulate and able to explain things. Her HW and tests were a bit hard for me but she definitely helps prepare and is always around to help. If people are having trouble, she will postpone the HW, and helps with some problems. Great teacher! Take her!
Selin is the best professor I had this semester. She honestly cares a lot about her students and freely gives her time if office hours are inconvenient for you. If the homework is too hard, she'll go over it in lecture and postpone the due date so you can learn how to do the problems on your own. If you can take her, do it! She's amazing professor!
Easy class if you understand basic levels of math. She's very hot. I didn't show up to recitation or lecture and showed up half an hour late to two tests and still pulled out a respectable B+. Tests aren't hard though and hw takes 5 mins.
Selin is a great professor. Super smart and funny, but she gives a looot of homework (easy, but a lot). Tests are fair, final easy but NOT ENOUGH time. but i'd highly recommend her!
Had her for Quantitative Reasoning Math Patterns in Nature. I've always had a hard time w/ math but Selin is great - very clear and made material understandable. Reasonable amount of hw from textbook, 1 midterm & final. Allows you to have an index card w/ notes for exam. Review sheets very helpful. Go to recitation, helps a lot too.
Amazing professor! She's not some recent PhD who's forgotten how to talk to non-math majors; she really cares about her students and explains things clearly and with lots of visual aids. Even if you aren't an A+ student or don't have a very strong math background, she will encourage you and put in the time to meet with you one-on-one.
Selin is an EXCELLENT teacher. I hate math beyond all else, and she made it bearable. She has a way of really making you understand the concepts. She also has a sense of humor. The tests are challenging, but definitely do-able.
She is the best professor I've had at nyu. Really cares about her students. I learned so much from her and she was always available to meet if I had questions. If you pay attention in lecture you don't even need the book.
Very helpful, always available in office hours. Her lectures aren't useful. For this class, especially if you've already taken calc/linear algebra, don't attend lecture unless you feel necessary. Recitations have some quizzes. Selin was awesome, keeps the class in tuned and the exams were easy!
Selin will make appointments for anyone, and pretty much raises your grade if you attend her office hours and show improvement. Warning: she teaches easy, and her midterms are much, much harder than the final exam. This benefits you: other teachers write easier midterms, so their kids don't kill the final the way you will. She's terrific!
Amazing. One of the best professors I've had at NYU. Really takes the time to explain the conceptual background behind problems so that you have a very solid understanding of the concepts. Says that she is more concerned with learning as opposed to grades, so she adjusts your score if she sees effort (especially going to her office hours).
Selin is seriously the best. She will do anything she can to help you out and is incredibly fair when it comes to tests, quizzes, and homework. She really is on your side with everything and truly wants you to succeed, understand the material, and get an A. If you are searching around for the perfect prof, pick Selin
Selin is honestly probably gonna be the best professor I have in NYU. Her lectures are in soo much detail, she's SUPER helpful in her office hours, and she's funny in general. LOVE her lectures!
Selin is one of the most wonderful professors I've had so far. Tests are sometimes challenging, but she makes sure to review all the material before each test. She's always happy to see you during office hours and even during appointments at other times. If you go to class and attend the review sessions, it's easy to get an A.
She's one of the best professors I've had the good fortune of coming across. Makes me want to go to class. I came in as an econ major and have now switched to an econ and math double major, that's the impact she's had on my life.
She is the BEST professor at NYU. I love her so much. I want to be like her.
Amazing. Fair grading and not too much work!
Selin is easily the best professor I have ever had. Period. She is an inspiration to all of us in her class, and continues to amaze us with each passing lecture. Sure, sometimes the math is difficult, but she's so passionate about what she's teaching that she makes it easy and fun. She's creative and funny, and makes us want to learn. Take her.
BEST MATH TEACHER EVER! She makes the class interesting so that you don't get bored, explains every single step, helps you if you're lost and has a great sense of humor. If you can take her, don't hesitate!
Selin is the best professor I've had in NYU. I completed my math minor by having her in four courses. She will always get out of her way to try and help. She breaks down the most complex concepts and makes them very understandable. If you can, just take her!
Selin is really such an amazing individual, and really goes above and beyond to help each student. Definitely take her. She really makes Calculus interesting. However, she is not an easy teacher and you will have to work very hard to earn an A. She prepares you well for the final, but you still need to study a lot.
Get her if you can! She is by far the most patient professor I have had, willing to help in any way possible. Her exams and homeworks are pretty hard, though.
Really cares for students to do well
Extremely passionate about teaching, Selin genuinely wants her students to do well.
She's the best, period. Her lectures are easy to understand and she genuinely cares about all her students, even when her lectures had 80+ (90+?) students. Some materials are tough (college calculus is a different animal than AP/IB) but she will walk you through every step. Probably the best professor you can ever have in mathematics department.
She is the best. She was always there at office hours and would meet me outside of them when I emailed. The course itself is basic calc which I took before so it wasn't that hard. Her reverse system of watching videos at home and doing hw in wed lecture is super helpful and that way you actually get homework done. Prepare to do a fair bit of work
Being in a class of 120+ does not give that individual attention that some students need. The class is basically online because that is where the quizzes, homework and classwork is. BTW if you buy the online access you get the textbook for free.
Having her as a teacher eased the stress of this class. its obvious she has a passion to teach math. Helpful when answering questions in class or office hours. If you learn better with audio or visual (like me), I highly recommend this class because of the videos. Just make sure you develop a routine for this class because it is a lot of work
Selin was a good professor. However she really underestimates the difficulty of the midterms. I didn't do well on the 1st midterm but when i went to her office hours she agreed to work with me so that i can excel and it worked i got a B+ on the final. as long as you read the textbook, take notes during the videos, go to lectures (!!!)you'll be good
Great professor; I should've worked harder to get a better grade, because it was definitely possible
Selin is an amazing professor. I was worried about taking calc since I was never good at math but she made it easy. The lectures are to be watched at home and when you get to class, she goes over practice problems. As long as you study for the midterms, you'll be fine. Final was easy.
Good teacher ! Her lectures are really organized and she goes through every step of the learning process !
Selin is a fantastic professor. I had a terrible professor in high school for calc, and I was worried but she made the class easy. You watch online modules, then do practice problems for homework - Selin goes over the problems too. If you study, you'll be more than fine for this class. Midterms, difficult, final was what you would expect.
Selin is very kind and approachable after class and during office hours, she loves teaching calculus and even though I personally didn't do very well in her class I feel that she is a great teacher! She encourages participation and wants everyone to feel comfortable with the topics.
Definitely take her course because you will learn a lot and she's willing to help.
Very sweet professor who cares about her students doing well. Unsurprisingly, her class had the highest average on the final. She really tries to gauge how well the class is grasping different topics and using Tophat really helped with that. I despised calculus in high school but her teaching and her class made me enjoy math again.
Compared to the other calc teachers, Seline is definitely the best. Her lectures are really easy to follow and her midterms are formatted identically to the final. Overall, calc 1 was not a hard class and she made it even easier.
Selin is undoubtedly one of the best math professors at NYUI can't imagine I will find better as I continue on in math. She is responsive and supportive in office hours (which I highly recommend attending) and is clear about grades, curves, expectations, etc. She solidified my choice to pursue a math minor; do yourself a favor and take her class.
I had to work a bit for my grade but she gives you a ton of options to bring it up with quizzes, homework, web assign, and exams. She's really funny and explains concepts well- attend lecture and it'll pay off big time. This course is a lot of time management because stuff is due throughout the week (Monday, Thursday, Sunday). Would take again.
She explains material very well and her tests are very easy, especially compared to other Calc 1 professors. Quizzes are easy as well. Do all the homework and study and you will get an A.
Honestly, she's my favorite professor I have so far. She is so nice, truly cares about her students and wants them to do well. Quizzes/exams are very fair and she is very clear about what will be on them. She is not a hard teacher, just attend lecture and do your homework, you will get an A or a B if you struggle in math. I love professor Selin!!
I love Selin!! Her lecture formats are super easy to follow, and she usually tries to engage everyone (all 90+ of us) by making lectures fun and exciting. It really is as she says, her lecture problems and homework problems are way harder than the quizzes and tests, so you'll be more than prepared if you show up and do the assignments. Much love.
She is one of my favorite professors at NYU. She is extremely good at explaining hard concepts, and makes everything interesting. I LOVE her style of teaching and her class historically does so much better than all of the other sections. 10/10. If you're on the fence about taking her, I would move my schedule around just to take her class.
Selin is great, really cares about her students and wants them to do well. Calculus can be difficult, but she makes it doable and gives very good lectures. Midterms are very fair and her class does very well on the finals. If you are not doing well, she is very happy to help you. Just a great professor all around. Highly highly highly recommend.
Every lecture and resources are available online but it is still very important to go to class. She makes math so understandable even for people who may not be very good at it. There are online videos to help. She may seem unapproachable because it is a lecture setting, but she is very excited to help students during office hours so reach out!
I didn't do well, that's for sure. Although, that's mainly my fault. She's really great, and she cares about the grades of her students. Have a question? Ask. Every piece of work she gives you; do it. Don't get the textbook. Those videos you watch ahead? Listen to them.
I would willingly upend my schedule to take Selin's class again. Everything is straightforward, and when it isn't, her door is always open for you if you have questions/need help. Truly, you'd be lucky to find another professor who cares so much about you doing well and having a good experience in a class that's otherwise meant to weed people out.
Selin is truly a gem. The way she has students engage with the material, she stresses the comprehension of the material more than anything. She will be willing to help you out with the material in any way possible. She makes Calculus bearable. However, the class is still difficult and as long as you place your best effort, you will be all fine.
Selin's teaching style is the only reason I passed this class with a B+. I have always struggled with math classes but her teaching style, syllabus, and online videos just clicked with me. I know many other friends/students in the class feel the same. She's also fun, which makes sitting in calculus lecture much better.
Selin has been by far one of my favorite professors at NYU. She makes learning fun and easy, and although there is a lot of homework, it really helps to ingrain the material in your mind. She's funny in a subtle way and really cares about her students. Calc could have been very rough without a wonderful teacher like Selin to make the process easier
I love her but if you suck at math you're gonna struggle. That being said, I went to office hours, went to tutoring sessions, and put in the extra effort. While she was very supportive, I still didn't do very well on her midterms. She's a great professor and arguably the best calc 1 professor at NYU, but know that the work is not easy at all.
Selin is the best, period. She is single-handedly charioting a new wave of education which people will look back on as revolutionary for its time. She is caring, engaging, and frighteningly brilliant. Her use of technology and intuition based learning help bring tough subjects into the realm of understanding. Do not leave NYU without taking her.
Selin was a wonderful professor. She is very accommodative in terms of meeting outside of class, and sets high expectations for her sections because she sees potential in all of her students. Despite the lecture being relatively large, she still answers all questions. Midterms were difficult b/c of timing, but there are no unfamiliar problems.
She is the best math professor at NYU. Take her, she is beautiful and she really cares about her students. Selin makes math fun and enjoyable.
Great teacher. Very hard tests but if you study you will be fine.
Selin is the best. Calc 2 is hard but her class structure makes it easier to learn and follow. Watch her videos and go through slides and practice before exams. her midterms are maybe harder but not impossible. you'll be prepared for the final which was easier than her midterms when I took it. She is kind and considers how you improve.
OMG I love her so much!! Guys!! Take her!! I messed up my final but still got an A, and she told us not to worry our grades because she would take care of it, and she said that the only important thing she cares about is we tried, which is so kind and thoughtful. And I did try to get an A, so please try and do some work, and you will be fine.
She's the best. She really focuses on making her students learn and improve and truly enjoy math. I've always hated math, but I had so much fun learning with her in this class. I didn't get perfect scores, but she said she will take care of our grades as long as there is improvement and progress, and I got an A. Please take her!!
Though there is a lot of work outside of class, it WILL make you understand the material. She is very generous as far as curving/grading goes and is always ready to help. I have never enjoyed math before this class, but Selin makes sure EVERYONE is able to understand and clearly cares that we learn. Don't take anyone but her for Calc 1!!!
DO your homework, go to office hours (both prof and TA), listen to lecture DON'T neglect your work, rely on Chegg She is super nice. The class itself is hard (exams, quizzes, A LOT of hw). She does curve at the end and genuinely wishes everyone succeeds in the class. 2 midterms and 1 final (all pretty hard). She has a really cute french bulldog.
She is very caring and always hopes that her students can do well in her class. There is a big curve on the overall grade since the test averages are usually low. She also drops the lowest homework, quiz, and even WebAssign grades. Overall, it is not difficult to get a good grade as long as you try.
omg she is great but her tests so are damn hard...
Much of the work is done at home which is good and bad. It consists of a lot of effort outside of class, which becomes difficult. She goes over examples during class so if you are confused about a concept it is difficult to follow along. Lastly, she is a nice lady but her tests are extremely difficult.
The best math professor I ever had. She really cares about her students and curves the class grades at the end.
Fast paced class, exams are hard, there is a curve. She really does care about her students and tries her best to make this a manageable class.
Selin is the best math professor I have ever had. Really explains everything very clearly so that students thoroughly understand the material.
Truly amazing. Really enjoyed calculus because of her. Really cares about her students. Teaches calculus in a fun manner. There is a curve. Do watch her lectures cause they are helpful. Exams aren't too bad but make sure to do practice exams and understand the material.
beware of flipped classroom. if thats not your thing, like me, don't take this course! you're basically taking an online class but with a lecture and recitation. it made learning the material much more difficult.
Professor Selin is pretty difficult but so does care about you doing well and is there to help if you do the work to reach out. Kind of tells you what'll be on the test in a between-the-lines type way. You will have to do your work and making sure you retain the material will be on you, but Selin and is a great teacher who will help you get it.
The best math teacher I've ever had. She teaches the material very clearly and is extremely willing to help you understand. Definitely take her if you can!
Her lectures are clear! Your grade would be fine because she promises to curve up your grade at the end of the semester. She will give videos for you to watch to help you preview before the lecture begins. Also, she'll go over with you many of the homework problems during the lecture, so problem sets are pretty easy if you pay attention in class.
Really nice lady with good lectures. Her lectures are basically review of the videos you have to do before lecture, but she is good. Tests are okay and really not that hard.
She gave a decent amount of work but I think everyone in her class really enjoyed being there, even if they weren't all that interested in Calc. She's really cool and easy to talk to so even if you feel like you're not getting things you can always go up and talk to her.
She gave a lot of work and her tests were pretty hard, but she did a good job at teaching the material. Her lectures were always fun to be in because she's pretty chill and laid back.
Professor Kalaycioglu is caring and funny. Her class is organized and class contents are presented in a way that even if a student who hates math like me can easily master! Definitely try to listen to her class because she will lead you through each and every step of the calculations. TAKE HER AND YOU WON'T REGRET.
Selin is one of the best math teachers I've had. She made Calculus, an already boring and tough class, much more interesting than expected. There's a lot of homework but if you do it you'll understand and score well on the quizzes and exams. I was surprised by how good her class was as an online class. She's also very funny and nice! TAKE HER!
She is seriously one of the best professors ever I loved her. Yes the tests may be scary and yes there may be a lot of homework but all the work you do is necessary to do well on the tests which makes me feel better doing it because I hate busy work. Loved her tho
As someone who took AP Calc AB senior year, I would say the content is fairly similar. Material is easy enough as such, but the mandatory homework really helps you learn the material, especially the videos.
selin's really nice and her class is really well planned. But her tests are really hard!!
Her tests are hard, but she explains the topics clearly. Very nice and caring professor!
Great professor! As someone who took AP Calc AB, the tests aren't as hard but if you have never taken a calculus class, this class will be very challenging. If you have prior knowledge in calculus, you will do well in this class. Also, she is very caring for her students and was really helpful during this pandemic.
Love this professor. Very very good at helping to understand hard math material (I suck at math), and is always accessible. She provides all the materials necessary to help you. Workload is very manageable. Weekly quizzes are easy. Test are def hard though, but she curves your final grade so don't worry about it!
Super nice and knows how to teach. Tests are hard but its expected for calc.
GREAT teacher. Get ready for a lot of homework but it truly makes you learn the content and if you follow all she says, you'll never be lost in the content. She's funny and personal, the online lectures were optional but made a huge difference she answers all questions asked. Definitely take her, best math teacher I've ever had.
Professor Kalaycioglu has been one of the best math teachers I've ever had. Her class is extremely organized and she takes the time to explain all the concepts clearly. The tests and quizzes are easy as long as you work hard and prepare well. She's also a very personable and entertaining professor who makes an effort to help her students do well.
Very understanding and would sometimes apply a curve at the end if she feels like the overall grades are too low. There are a lot of homework/assignments/quizzes/midterms, so you have to work hard but the each component's weight is not much. Also very passionate (office hours & email, would stay after class to explain if you have questions)
She cares about her students, is very nice and approachable.
Awesome!
Calc was impossible. No matter which you take expect it to be difficult! However, I've hear Professor K is the best option and she was very understanding
I took both Calc I and II with Prof Kalaycioglu and she has been my absolute favorite professor. The way she organized the course as flipped lectures and giving 3 exams instead of one big midterm has been SO helpful for understanding content. She is such a caring professor and is always available to answer questions! Truly an incredible prof!!
She is literally an angel. Calc was hard of course, but she was so unbelievably kind and understanding. Dropped a bunch of homework, gave huge curves, and made sure everyone learned the material. Homework heavy, but it really does help you do well. She really, really cares about her students!! TAKE HER!!!
I took Selin for both Calc I and II and I love her. She is so caring and such a good teacher. She truly wants everyone in her class to understand the material and she is always willing to meet outside of class. That being said her exams are really hard but if you review and study a lot you will do well.
Calc is a very hard class, but she made it so much easier. She was so caring, flexible and genuinely wanted her students to succeed. 10/10 recommend
TAKE HER IF YOU CAN. I cannot stress enough how kind of a soul she is. Super down-to-earth and takes into account our struggles. Her empathy allowed me to have a much better experience though I had a stressful Covid semester. A chunk of dropped assignments and fair curve at the end. The midterms will be challenging but it prepares for the final.
Shes great at what she does. Great at teaching material fast and to the point (tests what she teaches). tests are fair and reasonable.
so this may be biased but I am actually horrible at math. I'm surprised this prof helped me pass and all. This prof is literally an angel on earth. She is super patient and cares sooo much about her students. I've had so much anxiety around math and she's helped me so much. Any/everyone should take her if they have a chance.
As long as you regularly attend lectures and do the web assigns, the class should not be difficult at all. The professor is excellent and will always give help if needed.
She's extremely caring about her students and encourages her students to gradually learn the materials. Be aware that homework load is heavy.
love her! she is so caring towards her students. she really makes sure that students actually understand the material. super understanding and is always willing to repeat or go over a topic
Her exams are so so difficult and it felt like nothing we learned in class could pertain to the exams I wish she went over exam like questions had to learn most through youtube
Tests were honestly a lot harder than practice exams covered in class, but if you study you will be fine. She also curves the exams so the class average becomes a B (which for our class was usually around a 65). Very accessible outside of class, responds to emails quickly. There was also a lot of homework (at least that's how it felt like lol).
Selin was an amazing professor who gave insightful and clear lectures on problems. If you attend and pay attention to lectures, it will help immensely with exams since she runs over similar practice problems on assessments. Just make sure to keep on top of your work and go to her lectures, you will succeed in the class.
None of what we learned in class could be used on the exam she does not prepare us for exams and makes them difficult for no reason.
She is a really nice and understanding person. Gives weekly homework which should take a few hours to complete. Her tests are quite difficult but she gives a really generous curve (really generous). Highly recommend taking her if you need to take calc 2!
Seriously one of the best and nicest professors I have ever had. She is, like another review said, an angel on earth. Thank you Professor! Take her if you want happiness!!!!
Selin is one of the best professors that I've ever had. She is very kind, supportive, and intelligent. Calculus II is quite challenging but Selin's lectures are very clear and she is always willing to answer questions and re-explain concepts. I highly recommend going to office hours, since Selin will effectively answer any questions that you have.
Decent professor but does not do a good job prepping students for the exams. The averages were around a 60 which is insane. Not very accessible after class either if you email her. Homework and quizzes are not terrible at all, but midterms and final drags your grade down a lot. Says not to be worried about your grade but very pressuring class.
I love Professor Selin. She's very kind and understanding of students, and was reasonably accessible outside of class. However, while she gave amazing lectures, her exams were extremely hard and I think the class could've been prepared better for it. Also, homework was stressful and I found it unhelpful in learning. Nonetheless, amazing professor!
Selin is a very sweet lady, however I do not recommend taking her asynchronous CALC 2 class to anyone. We had optional lectures of about 2 hours twice per week, plus 3-4 hws, 1 quiz, and two 15 minute concept check vids per week. This class stressed me out more than it should've for a STEM student.
The best professor I've ever met! very nice and caring, with a very clear and amazing lecture!!!
Selin is the best calculus instructor I've ever had. Her class has a lot of homework but her lectures are astonishingly easy to understand and she breaks down Calc concepts really well. If you have to take Calc, take her class!
Curves like 2 grade boundaries up (B+ can become A p much). Lecture examples go over relevant test material. Very kind.
such a kind soul- I will recommend this professor to everyone I know. there's no denying calc is a difficult subject, but whether or not you're a math person, if you show up and put effort, Selin will help you. make sure you stay on top of your game with lectures and assignments FOR THE WHOLE SEMESTER (can be a bit tricky with an online class).
Highly recommend taking this class! Professor Selin is an exceptional and caring instructor. While the course involves a significant amount of work, including online homework, written assignments, and weekly quizzes. She is always there to support you.
Extremely kind and teaches with care and attention.
Selin's teaching style was amazing! She's very willing to help with any questions and she's really supportive all around!
Professor Selin is amazing - her lectures are super clear and she's always willing to help. The workload can be heavy, but tools like Unstuck ai really helped me ace the course. Definitely take Selin if you can!
TAKE SELIN'S CLASSES IF YOU CAN. she curves final grades super generously + provides alternative grading schemes so you'll end up with a better grade AND she's a great lecturer -- explains topics very clearly and succinctly. it's really obvious that she cares for her students a lot, and she's always willing to help if you ask for it. def recommend.
She explains things well, exams were surprisingly hard but curved a lot. I took Calc 1 in high school so I definitely slacked off a bit but an A is definitely achievable if you put in the effort.
Focus on practicing the questions she covers in lectures, homework, and quizzes—those are key to doing well on the exam. The workload can get intense with the homework, quizzes, and WebAssigns, but they're genuinely helpful for staying on track with the material. She also curves the grades very generously, which is a big plus.
Calc 1 is a hard class for most people, and Selin is super generous about her curving! As long as you revise, do the homework, and actually try, I think you'll be fine. I would recommend not taking her online if you want to actually learn, however, because it is really easy to get distracted and to slack off in the online class.
Im not good at math since high school, but she gives a very good curve!! Her own exams are relatively easy compared to the finals. She gives a lot of progression points on the exam. Very patient and thoughtful. The only tricky thing is the homework, Friday night web assign and Sunday big homework.. I have lost a lot of fun because of the hw
She is a fantastic professor. She's the best in the whole meth department at NYU, and if it is at all possible to take her class over any other professor, do it. Great lectures, and she's great at explaining things and answering questions. Very clear exams that resemble the homework and lectures, but the final is standardized unfortunately.
Selin was a great professor! Had no problems getting extra help, the one thing about this course though is that there are weekly quizzes which surprise you in terms of difficulty sometimes.
The prof herself is as normal as most professors you can imagine. Her lecture just consisted of her reading over slides (which is basically a summary of the module reading your required to do). The biggest con I had with this class in general was just the absurd amount of homework. Her class is equivalent to about 3 of my classes' worth of hw.
If she cannot get my respect, I dont know who else can. Totally a professor from heaven.
Selin is incredible and she makes math so much easier to understand than most professors. 100% recommend!!
This is your sign to choose Selin as your calc teacher. She's amazing at explaining difficult topics. Both midterms were not as difficult as you'd think. yeah theres a good amount of hw, but I mean its a math class so why wouldnt there be. weekly quizzes (in person). all lectures are recorded, and she takes perfectly understandable notes
Great prof.
Professor Kalaycioglu is a great professor. I've had her for two semesters; she made the complicated topics of Calc I and II comprehensible. Recommend keeping ahead of the homework as there is quite a lot of it (3 assignments + a quiz a week), but overall, the final grade gets an extensive curve, and she is a very approachable and caring person.
I thought calc 1 would be easy, but it is NOT easy. HW due every Fri/Sun, weekly recitation quizzes, and pretty difficult midterms and a hard standardized final made it much harder. Selin as a professor was great though, lectures optional/recorded, accessible, and very nice, explaining things well. The course itself is just hard at NYU.
Selin is one of the best teachers I ever had. I was a C student in Calc BC but she made everything easy to understand. Also, she has a very generous homework and quiz drop policy. She'll tell you what will and won't be on the exams. Her midterms were relatively easy my year, so my class did not have a curve because the average was not low enough.
Super energetic lecturer who just wants the best for her students. Class shouldn't be a problem if you've taken AP Calc BC before since it's only a slight extension in terms of topics and material.
