Semya is very helpful and will make time for any student. She is a great professor. I would recommend her to anyone. As long as you go to class and do the work, you'll be fine!

Class was interesting, don't agree with everything but she did well to argue her point though. I would reccomend taking this class, relatively easy.

Semya loves participation. There is a lot of work required. Tests are essay, but everything on the test is covered in lecture. Her lectures are a little monotone and tiring. This is not a slack off class. But do the work and you'll do well.

Very passionate about subject matter. Yes, she is picky about spelling, etc. but shouldn't we all be striving for the best? Lots of participation in class and plenty of opportunties to get extra credit and learn more.

Hakim is very gloomy and not excited about what she's teaching. I'm very interested in the topic but other teachers I've had for race class were much better, less random writing on tests about 5 different sources in one page. I hate the tests but they are not too hard to pass. You'll pass but you will most likely be bored the whole time.

Good Professor, could use a little more passion & organization but I definitely recomend her. Cheap text & most readings on D2L, must speak in class or docked, essay test (3), fair grader but expect spelling and word/sentence usage to be judged, not hard class but be respectful to Professor, showing a seriousness in the issues presented will go far

Good class. You learn a lot from different prospectives. Cheap text and a lot of D2L. Just make sure you go to class every time and do every single reading. All of them will be used on the tests

Class was very interesting. do the reading and you'll get and A on the exams. 3 papers are sure through whole semester and are very easy. good class, really opens you're eyes to racism and its history

She was an ok professor, she does have passion for the subject she just has a hard time expressing it. Make sure that you follow her attendance policy and it's an easy A.

This is the absolute best class to take for a diversity/MGM requirement. Hakim has a lot of passion as an anti-**** and I learned so much in this class that made me a better person. You need to read the readings and the test questions are short answer and essay but pretty clear. I have applied so much to my life from this class with Hakim.

Semya is an amazing teacher!!! I learned so much from this class and it soon became one of my favorites. She teaches about racism and how it touches all of us..no matter what color you are. She doesn't bash white people and she challenges you to question why you think the way you do. She's very understanding and is always willing to help.

Very good teacher, honest and fair grader. Looked forward to class, smooth pace. Read articles and get stuff done a head of time. Little homework besides reading.

This was a very easy class! Go to class, watch movies, a lot of reading, attend speakers, but do the work and its an easy A. She talks softly and waits a long time for answers so be prepared to answer her questions. Attendance sheet is passes around everyday. Discussion on D2L, research/reflection project, and exams main part of grade.

great teacher. helpful. fair. read the d2l readings. read the book. some readings are short, some are long. attendance is mandatory. 3 easy exams if you read the material and come to class. three simple papers. take her you'll learn lots!

I sugggest you take Hakim. She is extremely helpful and very understanding. Goes out of her way to help you with anything and everything. Her class is very interesting and you will gain alot of valuable information. I highly encourage you to take Hakim. I love her :) :) :)

Easy class, Just go everyday and read the articles on D2L and you will do fine. She is extremely helpful whenever you need it. Not the most entertaining class in the world but what do u expect in a racial class, I suggest to take Semya

She's a rather dull lecturer but you learn a lot about racism and it's very easy to get an A. I would recommend taking her for this class!

very nice prof. helpful and dedicated to the subject. perfect for race courses. not biased and open for new ideas. mandatory classes but overall very easy class if attend and stay caught up on work. easy essay tests. gives all questions beforehand and assignments very easy as well :) enjoyed this class taught by semya hakim

This was one of the more laid back race teachers that were available and I really appreciated that. If you pay attention in class and read half of the articles you will get an easy A.

She is a very nice and laid back professor. Her class was enjoyable and she was easy to understand. The only problem I could come up with about her is that she is a little on the quiet side. She is also funny but its hard to tell because she keeps it on the down low. I recommend her for sure.

Nice professor. Pretty basic class. Not too hard, although in my opinion she can grade a little tough sometimes.

Hated this class. Boring. But she's so nice. She let me turn in our HUGE end of the semester project late even when she said there were absolutely no exceptions to turning it in late. The exams were easy if you read ALL the material from D2L. I surprisingly got an A even after missing too many classes. Talk to her one-on-one and you'll like her.

This is the best class ever, She is easy going, but wants you to talk a lot in class, and online discussions. Work load is easy, test not to bad if you do the readings, talk in class and you get a good grade. Would take her class again.

If you want to understand racism take her class. she is a wealth of knowledge. a lot of readings but they are fun, class time is discussion. a few papers to write but not bad.

Best class I have taken at SCSU! Semya is great professor. She cares a lot about her students. She is willing to help you with papers and studying. Learned a lot. Recommend to anyone who is going to be a teacher.

I really liked the class. Semya's teaching style is cool; she let us talk a lot but then would jump in to give us statistics or lecture. The films were great. I liked the group discussions a lot too. Semya grades really fairly and never showed any favorites which I liked.

Semya is the best. don't judge her by her not smiling. She is upbeat and dedicated to students and the topics. She cares about schools and students. Always available to help us if we have questions or if we want to learn more. I would recommend her to everyone who is an education major. She is very smart!

Dr. Hakim is one of the best profs at scsu. She knows the material and uses lots of different kinds of teaching styles. I wish she was teaching more. She knows a lot about schools and treats us like equals; not like other hurl professors. She doesn't make you feel bad for being white. Read everything and more. Loved the class and learned so much!

Teacher is clearly passionate about what she teaches, which is always nice. She assigns lots of papers, all of which require critical thinking. She monitors attendance and participation very carefully, and you will not pass without participating. This class does not require a textbook, which is nice. Do not chit chat in this class.

This class is required for any education major. Get ready to read! There are about 3 to 4 articles do every class period that can be anywhere from 1 page to 33. She likes when people participate in her discussions, but I feel if you don't say something as she wants to hear she gets judgmental. Only took cause it was required. Tests are essay style.

Took Dr. Hakim for HURL 497. As a future educator I very much value the things I learned in her class. No textbook required for the class but there are a lot of online readings. There are three exams which consist of 8 short answer and 2 essays. Always posts sample questions that are almost exactly like the essays. She is great!!!

Great class with a great professor. No textbook, but expect a lot of readings through articles which is better in my opinion. Stay on top of the readings and show up. Weekly online discussions, 3 essay exams, 2 papers, 1 group project.

Semya was a good professor, the class was interesting and kept my attention. A ton of participation and lots of readings. Quite a bit of group work, and discussions. The exams are fairy easy, she basically tells you exactly what is on them but lots of writing on them not multiple choice or anything like that.

This class is harder class but you'll learn a lot from Semya, also she is the easiest professor to get in contact with. She always has office hours open and responds to emails the same day.

Dr. Hakim is awesome! The workload in this class is a lot but it is manageable. Keep on top of the readings and you will do fine. Dr. Hakim is extremely accessible outside of class and emails back promptly with helpful feedback. Class is interesting and the articles to read for class are good. I would recommend taking Dr. Hakim!

She is amazing! There is a TON of reading and discussion. For my program there was also a companion lab. I learned so much from this woman. She is not a popular prof because she has high standards and makes you work. I promise you she is worth it. Put your phone away (she does not tolerate) and enjoy the discussion. I would take her again.

Semya is a great professor! Many many many assignments to do during the semester, and pretty time consuming. In her syllabus it says she's a hard grader but I got 90%'s on all exams and papers. Seems like a hard class, but I learned a lot. Over great professor to learn from

Genuinely cares about all students. I'm rating her before finishing the semester to prove that shes not bad like these other reviews say. She is fair you just need to do your work (read.) Shes always there to help. I was VERY nervous to take her class but on day 1 I was convinced she wasnt what these reviews say. Shes a good person & professor.

Semya is a very kind and genuine person. She's very accommodating; she often asks students for feedback on assignments. She even dropped a presentation assignment for us because many students were already loaded with assignments from other classes. Semya is also organized and a pretty easy grader.

She is so kind and really does want you to succeed. Lots of readings and films to watch. You can get away with not doing them, but you need to reference them in your exams, so pay attention when they are referenced in class. She gave a lot of good examples of how different things relate to the classroom setting. useful information and she is a gem.

Semya was interesting to listen to, but was passionate about more topics than others. Lots of articles to read, instead of a textbook. 3 exams spaced equally throughout the semester. It is a harder class, but is interesting and I learned a lot from it. 3 exams, 2 big papers, a group project, and LOTS of reading. She is a good professor.

Overall a good professor, a bit disorganized and slow to give back grades but still an excellent professor. Very passionate and knowledgeable about her subject and willing to work with students if they need extra assistance.

I loved this professor, even if her voice makes me fall asleep in class she is always caring and her students grade matters. She is very flexible and understanding as well which makes class even better for me. Recommend this professor! She's awesome.

This was literally the best class I have ever taken and with the best teacher. I LOVE Semya and her class would take all of my attention, it was a 3 hr class but so worth it. Only 3 exams, 2 papers, 1 presentation, and participation are graded. Try in the class and you will get an A. Read the readings before the test and you're fine.

Very easy-going lectures, not a lot of note-taking, and simple but effective notes. There are weekly discussion posts, they are relatively easy to do, take notes and do the readings and you'll def get an A in her class. She's a calm professor and grades nicely with clear communication if she sees your grade isn't the best and will help you

Amazing professor! I learned more in this class than in any other class. Her lectures go by fast because they're clear, engaging, and organized. She truly cares about students and gives great reading guides. If you study, you'll do great on the exams. I'd take her again!

I really liked having Semya as a professor. She is a tough grader but will work with you! There are a couple group projects/activities so watch out for those. Some of her lectures seem to drag on but they're usually very informational.
