Dr. BeeJay is so great! He gives a good amount of extra credit in the class. If you show up to the class and answer a question, you will be given extra credit. He will email you back right away. On the test, there were only three, he allows you to have a cheat sheet with formulas or examples. He's also really nice, and tries to be funny.
Bee Jay was a good teacher and he did give plenty of extra credit when you participated also having the cheat sheet for the tests was awesome but if you participated and didn't get the right answer he could be very demeaning and make you feel stupid which I hated a lot. He was also a super nerd who loves lord of the rings, star wars, etc.
He was great! I learned so much. He gives extra credit for everything. He also lets you use cheat sheets for all 3 exams. There are 2 exams, and one Final. The HW is pretty much notes you take in class, so if you take notes, it will guide you through the homework. He was amazing. He also has a British accent which is cool. Great guy! Take him !!
Prof. Bee Jay is awesome. If you did well in Statistical Methods you will do well in this class. Take him! He gives extra credit for participation and lets you have a formula sheet for tests (sometimes more than one sheet of paper). Go to class, participate, do the homework, and formula sheets will earn an A. He will randomly take attendance.
I participated in class, completed all homework assignments and talked to professor for extra help, but the hardest part of the class is the tests. There are two tests and a final and he allows you to use notes sheets, but what he teaches in class is not exactly what is on the test. This class requires ALOT of extra studying.
Professor Bee Jay was great. He was funny and very interactive with the class, it was not just him lecturing. Participating gets you extra credit.. SO PARTICIPATE IN CLASS IT IS A LIFE SAVOR. The exams were decent if you follow the practice exams and study the notes you will be fine, plus he allows full page cheat sheets. Definitely take his class!
Math has always been my weakest subject, but Professor G was knowledgeable and helpful enough for me to get an A despite how difficult his exams were. As a Senior looking back on my college career, this is the only math class I have taken in my entire life that I remember fondly. Senthil inspires his students, FGCU needs more teachers like him!
Despite only taking him for Social Sci. Stats (2014), BeeJay is my ultimate favorite professor at FGCU. He really cares about helping students LEARN and THINK while making statistics less scary/boring. Pay attention in class, participate, and put in the effort on assignments. He's also a bit witty, so don't be afraid to laugh at his jokes!
BeeJay was a really funny professor and clearly knows what he is doing when it comes to statistics. However, if you are not naturally good at math DO NOT take this course. He is extremely confusing in class and his tests do not match his notes. He can also be very demeaning if you ask a question or get the wrong answer. He writes his own textbook.
One of the best professors at FGCU. Took him for Social Stats and Statistical Methods. I am not naturally good at math, but did well in his classes. Put in the work and you'll get a great grade. He's an extremely helpful professor, just reach out to him. Participating for extra credit makes a huge difference. Strongly recommend.
He actually teaches you the subject instead of just having you print off notes and fill in blanks. Instead of just memorizing formulas, he teaches you how to understand the subject so your not stuck if you forget the plethora of formulas needed for calc. He's a real charismatic guy, he's got jokes, incredibly smart. This guy is the best.
He's very sarcastic but if you don't take it to heart he's actually pretty funny. His lectures mostly consist of examples but for me this was a good way to learn the material. You are allowed to use a cheat sheet on the exams and he gives a study guide for every test. His accent is also pretty cool.
Only take if you understand statistics well. I aced the class but only about half the class passed (which he said exceeded his expectations). There are only three 15-question multiple choice tests including the final that account for like 70% of your grade so if you bomb one you are pretty unlikely to recover.
He's a great professor who know whats he's talking about. He does notes on the board with practice problems. He gives extra credit for participation in the lecture and is sarcastic. he has three 15-question tests including the exam.
Best math professor I've had at FGCU. Definitely take him if you struggle in math, he keeps class interesting and gives participation points for answering questions in class (which help your grade a lot.) He does not move on to a new topic until everyone understands.
He def knows what he is talking about. I just do not know what he is talking about. I've attended almost every class, & the first exam I got the lowest score. I got an A in HS. The hw is nothing you've learned, so you have to teach yourself, & it is for a grade. Participation can help your grade so much. Take another professor if possible.
I really enjoyed his class. I really put in the time and effort. I would definitely recommend participating in class (he gives extra credit for that) and go to his office hours. He gives a ton of extra credit opportunities. If you make friends in the class study for the exams together together. He also lets you use cheat sheets on the exams!
Dr. G is an amazing professor who cares about all of his students. He gives extra credit for participating. While your grade is based on mostly tests he weighs them differently to help your grade. He's always there to help you out. You also get cheat sheets for all the exam that can be helpful.
He was a good professor, but check for mistakes on everything you do because he made plenty (on hw and tests). Besides that he was very clear and made stats easy to understand if you pay attention
He has a very fun personality and grabs your attention in the lecture, and offers extra credit for participating, but only offers 3 tests. If you bomb one of them it's difficult to recover. The calculator and his lectures are you best friends here. Also, communicate with him in ADVANCE if you have to miss a test. If not he might not let you take it
Horrible. First day of
Never opened my textbook. Class is discussion heavy. He asks us for the answer, we have no clue, he waits. little formation learned in a lot of times. He writes his own notes on the board. Exams and homework are very different from what is learned in the past.
I am really good at math but I really struggled in this class. He made up his own lectures on the white board, I never knew which chapter we were on. The only reason I passed is he let us use a one page cheat sheet on tests and re do the online homework (takes forever). Always attend lecture and take notes of how to use the calculator for problems
This class is very easy as long as you take notes, pay attention, and go to class. The professor is very intelligent and is a great teacher. He will help you if you don't understand anything. There are only 2 exams and the final when it comes to exams so you need to make sure you do well on those. The HW grades help too. Very easy math class.
An awesome professor would definitely take him again. Makes class enjoyable and examples are relatable. You definitely need to put work in to earn a good grade but its achievable.
Attendance matters a ton, he doesn't post the notes online so theres no other way to follow what he teaches otherwise. That aside, both the (not online!) homework and tests were very reasonable and followed the notes well (further emphasizing importance of attendance) - being able to make&use a cheat sheet on tests was life saving. Great prof
Very fun class. Professor is funny and really explains the material well. He does a lot of in class examples, so going to class is important so you can really learn the material. Answers questions quickly and is very easy to get a hold of out of class for questions.
doesnt use the textbook at all. doesnt use connect math. & makes up own homework questions and test questions. no tutors could help bc they have no idea what hes doing. not practical. makes it very hard to understand and gives trick questions on the test. sample exam given was nothing like the actual exam. overall horrible
I have 0 clue why this guy has a 4.2 rating, ask any one who actually took him, he is the worst professor at this school. Trust me. His lectures have nothing to do with what you will be tested on. Same with the homework and "mock tests" If you don't understand it be prepared to learn yourself. If you don't pass the first test you basically fail.
Ill make it simple. Do not take this guy unless you were born with a brain for math only. He does not teach, he just gives you information that won't be on your 3 grade opportunities.
There are only 8 homework assignments and 3 exams in the class. He does take attendance, but not every class. He uses examples that the class makes up rather than worksheets that you follow along to. Nice guy and very sarcastic. He gives multiple extra credit opportunities. Also lets you have cheat sheets for the test and put whatever you want on.
Overall, best math professor I've had. He teaches by using examples, which I found very helpful. If you pay attention and write down everything, the homework will be easier to complete. He also allows "cheat sheets" on the 3 exams, and gives extra credit opportunities with participation. He's also pretty funny and made the class enjoyable.
HORRIBLE!!! This professor does not teach, he just babbles on, he does not want to help you, he's a bit of a smart ass. Sample exams have nothing to do with the actual exam. The tutors cannot help because they do not know what he's doing. This professor only interacts with the front of the class, and he does not put the notes on canvas.
Kind of a hard professor. You learn, but the test is somewhat different than whats in class and on the homework so it can be hard to get a good grade in his class. He's a funny guy but can be kind of difficult.
You only have 3 opportunities on tests and if you dont even do good on the first one its almost a guarantee that you fail the class. Do not take if you cant teach yourself because he does not teach, he only rambles on. Doesnt care about students only his own reputation.
Awful instruction and unrealistic expectations with exams.
I'm graduating this weekend, thanks to Dr. G! I failed this class twice and this was the last math credit for me. He is difficult sometimes but he helps you a lot. You get full pages for cheat sheets. Go to class, take notes, put in some work, you pass. He is funny and sarcastic.
Great Professor if you understand math. I don't get math and I suffered in this class. If you're good at math he's a good choice. Funny and interesting sense of humor; never gets angry with class.
I've tried twice to get CAA tutors to help me with his homework and not even THEY could understand it. Avoid this professor or you might fail. He doesn't teach formulas or give the typical examples other professors use. It's very confusing b/c he makes his own homework that is too advanced for an introductory stats course.
i dont think any of the stats professors at FGCU really know how to teach stats, he isnt the best but hes not the worst either. pretty sarcastic, picks favorites, and talks a lot about his intelligence. class was kinda challenging for a gen ed class, but again hes not the best but hes not terrible. If you ask questions youll be fine.
He is funny and sarcastic. The sarcasm seems to be natural and not bad. As long as you go to class, you are fine. He is tough though. Easy A is no way with him.
Professor Girimurugan is quite the professor! He takes a different approach when teaching statistics. He makes it so you can learn the basics of it, and yet be able to put it into practice for future reference. Just pay attention and participate in class discussions. Work hard and smart and you will pass with no problems! I will take him again!
Most confusing professor! I've taken many math classes, including college algebra, and had A's in all, but really struggled here. He doesn't follow a textbook or use any online sources. His homework and lectures are made up as he goes. He does his own version of stats so I couldn't get help from any of the tutors. They didn't understand him either!
I mean what is there to say? Cool guy, great personality. Its unfortunate that he failed me by 2 points knowing I tried my absolute hardest. Probably would have passed if I didnt miss 2 class periods. ATTENDANCE MATTERS.
He cant properly teach his students how to perform simple problems. Tends to make homework/test problems incredibly difficult
Beejay is a good teacher, but he follows his own curriculum and doesn't use the textbook at all. If you're bad at math, you might struggle a little more. His lectures are clear but there was one topic I didnt understand and the tutor didnt even know how to do it
Dr. Beejay (girimurugan) is a fantastic professor because he is so relatable and hilarious. He always finds a way to explain Math concepts in a funny way! Leaving his class is always a bummer because he honestly makes everyones day. I highly Recommend Taking class from Dr. beejay!
Beejay is overall a great professor. I'm not really a math person, but his lectures were very clear and straight forward, he gives lots of examples, and is super sarcastic and fun. You get extra credit for participating, and there's extra credit questions on all 3 exams. Pay attention and do the homework and you should have no problems.
For an introductory course, this class was awful. He taught it like it was a senior class and did not have a textbook you could look at for examples. I sat with 4 upper-level math majors taking his upper-level courses for 4 HOURS trying to do a 15 question homework assignment! He is witty and made the class enjoyable but it was my hardest class
Insanely smart man and sarcastic sense of humor - passionate about his subject matter in statistics. Very lecture heavy with no assingments but 3 exams. If you're not a math major taking Time series analysis like me - the theoretical portion of the material can get tedious. If you're a math major, he's going to challenge you quite a bit.
I absolutely LOVE this man! I actually got a 99% in statistics after struggling with it in high school. He writes EVERYTHING on the board, so you'll never feel rushed or behind when taking notes and doing problems. He allows a two-sided sheet of paper to write anything you want for the multiple-choice tests. There's extra credit and barely any HW.
Professor is a funny and nice guy, but I found his class impossible. His lectures are not organized and he doesnt really follow the book. If you struggle in math and need more structure to your lectures I would not take him. No matter how hard I studied for his test I was always blindsided when it came time to actually take the test.
There are 4 exams (15 questions & a bonus)(worth25%), homework on Aleks360 for each chapter (worth25%). Final is worth 25%. He is really sarcastic and may make you feel stupid for asking questions in class. Take lots of notes and you'll pass. He usually tells you how many questions from each section will be on each exam.
His notes look nothing like our homework that looks nothing like our tests. I was able to do well on the first two tests because the concepts are straight forward, but once the material was more difficult it is very difficult to understand how to do well on the tests when the homework which should be practice was almost pointless.
He's ok. Study and use the book, even if it seems like the concepts are straight forward. Be prepared to be blindsided by every test. He can make you feel stupid for asking questions during class.
If you want to take a easy math course, pick this one. The professor is very clear during class, and the tests are not that hard
Loved this professor. If you show up to class, it's an easy A. The entire class is graded based on homework and tests, and he gives 2-3 opportunities for extra credit throughout the semester. You have to buy an access code for the homework. I would definitely take him again.
I started off strong in this class and did well on the first two tests, but then as the material got more confusing, the lectures became less helpful and the content wasn't taught well. Math isn't one of my strongest subjects, but I had always done well. Until now. Don't buy a physical textbook as you'll get a code for an online one in class.
bad lectures hard to understand
I took him in Fall 2018 I believe - and I loved him. I transferred schools but I am thinking back to the classes I took at FGCU and this was probably my favorite. I think he is a great professor and teaches class in an interesting way. If there was still a hot pepper for professors, I would have given him a 10/10
He is honestly so great, I didn't rate him as an easy A because it is calc but My grade right now is 98/100, he is honestly so good and funny, very interactive and he wants us to learn. Would love to take all my math classes with him.
My favorite professor I've had at FGCU. I took him for stats and calc, and he provides very clear lectures. He calls for a lot of participation and genuinely tries to make sure everybody understands the material. If you can do the homework the exams are cake, and he offers extra credit on every single exam. Not to mention he's hilarious.
I'm not someone who likes math but this professor made a statistics class bearable. Lectures were straight to the point and easy to follow and the exams were very similar to the study guide and provided materials. Professor cares about the students by answers all questions honestly. Would recommend.
He made Statistics an extremely easy class. He is very funny and does a good job at teaching it in a way that everyone can understand. I would take him again. He offers extra credit before every exam as well.
only reason I did not fail was because he curved our overall grade by 5% and graded our 16 question exams out of 15 each time. I recommend only taking stats with professor G if you seem to naturally understand math. His lectures were awful and his tests DID NOT match up with his lessons. He would tell us the wrong questions to study for the exams.
he gives a lot of homework and the entire class is graded upon tests and the homework. he does give extra credit tho
This guy doesnt care about his students. He didnt know our names at the end of the semester in a class of 20. 3 (14 question) Multiple choice tests + final. All of the tests were extremely hard and lecture based. He has no mercy if you dont pass. Asked for a review once, and he said, what are you, children?. Avoid avoid avoid this prof.
I stopped attending lectures partway through the year because he posts them online and gives no pop quizzes. For every test, he gives an extra credit quiz from home, and lets you have cheat sheets for every test including the final. I'm bad at math and failed this class prev but BJ really cares about you passing. I'd take him again in a heartbeat.
He offers extra credit before every exam, tests are multiple choice, graphing calculators allowed, cheat sheets as well. He makes it very easy. I definitely reccomend him for any class that you don't have a follow-up course to, since he offers so many resources that your later professors won't.
Have always struggled with math but ended the up with an A. Extra credit quiz day before every exam. Easy points You will need the textbook, its very helpful Not a horrible amount of HW Posts lectures, try not to miss class it will be worth it. 4 Exams. Final is worth 20%. Concepts can be a little confusing, you kinda have to learn from the book.
Professor Girimurugan has been the best professor I've had so far at FGCU, his lectures are amazing, he is not a tough grader at all, he gives extra credit opportunities for every exam, a lot of homework but they are really helpful to get prepared for exam and they worth a lot on the course. If you can take a class with him, do it.
When taking BJ you are in for a treat. He gives a lot of homework that is not relevant to his tests. The positive is he grades 15/16 so it can help your grade. You do get to use cheat sheets but when he complicates his lectures nothing you write on your sheet will make sense so good luck!
Prof. G tends to overcomplicate every topic in this class. You will do well if you have a good foundation in math. Normally the class runs so that we will go over one example problem for the entire class. Homework and tests are easy when you read the textbook. (the textbook is super helpful for this class so please get it!)
I would not suggest this professor unless you seem to naturally understand math. Professor G assumes that you know everything and then when you have a question, he is condescending. I have never failed a class until this class. Would suggest to take another professor.
Best professor I have ever had, I have never had a professor that makes me feel smart until now. If you thrive in a lecture environment this is the class for you- it's not easy but if you go to class and take notes its good. Cheat sheets and plenty of extra credit. Homework can be a lot but other than that his class is great. He is also super funny
This professor didn't teach at all. 22 out of the 37 classmates failed this class because of his exams. I had an 81% on homework from mystatslab, but failed the exams because they never matched what was taught. DO NOT TAKE.
If you are already not good at math don't take his class. There is already no outside tutoring for his class and the homework and extra cred. are easy but the exams are nothing like he says it is. He provided us to look for certain sections for each chapter, but on the exam it's completely different than what you have studied for.
He was a great professor! The homework was all due the night before the exam, so as long as you kept up with attending class and doing the work, it was pretty manageable. He also allowed us to have cheat sheets in the exams and gives an extra credit quiz before every exam. I only attended office hours a few times, but he was always very helpful.
Dr. S was a good professor. He provided many extra credit opportunities, which I would recommend anyone to take advantage of as even though it felt like I didn't do well on exams, all the extra credit let me pass the class with a good grade. He also let us have cheat sheets for the exams, which greatly helped. Go to every class to pass!
The exams are hard but he'll add around a 10 point curve (just do the extra credit too). Even w/ the 10 point curve the mean for most of the exams was an F. I usually do pretty well in all math classes but I found his teaching style was really hard to follow and had to spend a lot more money on tutoring than other math classes.
His class was based on 4 exams only which you are allowed a cheat, and extra credit exams are always before the exams. If you don't grasp stats very well sometimes it's confusing however if you really like stats like me you will enjoy this class and get to see real-world stats applications using R-studio.
Professor Girimurugan has a whiteboard and marker style of teaching. For the exams, you can have a cheat sheet, a table of integrals, and a curve. Don't let this fool you because the exams are extremely difficult with an average of 60 or lower each exam. By some sheer luck, you might pass by guessing a lot because everything is multiple-choice.
Best stats professor at FGCU! Dr. G does a great job of breaking the material down into relatable and easy to understand concepts. HW is 25% and exams are 75% of your grade. Every exam has a 7% curve, you're allowed a page of notes, and there's an extra credit quiz before each exam. If you show up to every class and work hard you will pass.
I have taken this professor two times because I had failed this class the first time and he was the only professor who offered it at the time I chose my classes. I will admit, he was better the second time I took him and he changed the textbook which seemed to help. Overall, do the extra credit and show up to class but it will still be difficult.
One of the least supportive professors I've ever encountered, good luck if you have technical or even real-life issues because he won't care. One pro is the homework wasn't too overwhelming on its own, but it wasn't that similar to his tests and I did need to teach myself some concepts. If you have a TI-84 and know how to use it, you will be set.
brutal professor, brutal class. very smart in the subject area but seems not to care if his students pass or fail. exams taken through lockdown browser in class (sometimes multiple choice, sometimes numerical fill in the blank, who knows). very unorganized and confusing lectures (every class).
This professor has a lot of knowledge of linear regression, but his teaching method of just using a whiteboard and a marker does not help. His notes on the whiteboard are all over the place and writes long, random equations on the board that don't make sense. The homework/exams are extremely difficult, even reviewed notes and the textbook. AVOID!
This professor makes this topic hard to understand. The hw is timed for 1hr and you cannot backtrack which makes it worse. I feel this professor sets you up to fail with timed hw. The lectures are very unclear and he expects to remember everything from STA 2023. The notes are all over the place with just random equations with no context. AVOID!
Professor BJ is the sole reason I decided to add a mathematics and a statistics minor. Best professor I have had at FGCU. He is passionate and knowledgeable in statistics, and, as he is passionately sharing that knowledge with you, you will find yourself becoming passionate as well. 100% take him if you love learning, you won't be disappointed
Such a brilliant professor but as a psychology major, nothing made sense to me. Don't take this if you struggle in math, he is very math-minded which meant that I spent a lot of time at office hours trying to understand enough to make a C. If you participate and show that you actually care about his class, he will help you.
Class was harder than it needed to be since his lectures don't correlate to any material on the exams, you basically have to learn the material on your own outside of class. He did allow a front/back cheat sheet for the exams and an extra credit quiz for each exam which was helpful.
Prof G has a specific teaching style, but engaging with it pays off. Attend class, read the textbook, and use tools like unstuck study for study prep - you'll learn a lot. The exams are tough, but the curve and extra credit help.
Wow, beware of this teacher. I went to every class for stats and never missed. I always did the homework. However, we would go over about 20-45 subjects and the test would be about 6 questions with different sections per question. The tests were out to get you. The professor has no remorse or wiggle room. Will destroy you in class. Very sarcastic!!
Only professor who could teach me stats!
Great professor! Those that are complaining should try harder to be proactive as he will certainly help explain anything that is difficult to understand if you actually ask for that help. Math wasn't my thing but Dr. Girimurugan taught me which I thought impossible. He's a great professor & person!
I have him for programming class if there's another option, DON'T pick him. He can be very rude to work with since he has a condescending attitude. He puts everything on the lockdown browser, even the homework. He offers no mercy in grading and doesn't care if you fail. I'm currently failing as of writing this review, don't take him for your sake.
