Serena is AWESOME! She makes learning math fun. Young, witty, sarcastic. Everyone in the class loves her. She offers a lot of after school help and makes sure each student FULLY understands each step. You get to practice in class and she uses Math Lab online for HW. Lots of extra credit offered.

She's extremely clear in her instructions, although during the last part of the semester she really rushed the class, especially when we needed extra time to understand the concepts. She has you submit HW online and the program used is really touchy with the answers you submit. Overall, she's really chill.

This was a block class and though she was through it was a fast pace to where I found myself lost sometimes.

One of the best teachers I had, she is always willing to help you, and all you have to do is ask. taking math in one block was hard and a lot of work, and she knew that, so she try to help as much as she could, even after class she will stay and go over concepts we didn?t understand and was willing to tutor after class as well, I will recommend her

Great teacher. Uses very useful teaching methods. She gives you the opportunity to limit your homework with an optional pretest. Math is by far my worst subject and it was stupid of me to take it in the summer.. but I still did pretty good in the class. I think the only people who failed were the ones who stopped showing up after a week of class.

Serena was an overall awesome teacher, class attendance was required but all the homework and quizzes were taken online through MyMathLab, which was really convenient. If you just talk with her and let her know about different conflicts shes real easy to work with.The only reason I marked 4 on clarity was because I don't understand math in general.

She is a good professor, I struggle with math in general, but I did enjoy her class more than I normally would have. It does suck if you miss, I strong suggest being in class as much as possible. The tests are a bit difficult, because they are usually on 2 or 3 chapters of material.

Serena Buss Is Amazing at preparing students for tests! she cares that you pass! she doesn't assign homework for a grade, but provides it so you can study to understand the material. Serena does a good job being there for students. She doesn't require you to turn in homework, however she gives quizzes frequently to encourage doing homework & attending class. She does allow you to drop 3 quiz scores at the end of the semester. She is very willing to help & answer as many questions as you have. Its a Math class so expect to work.

I took college prep class in high school, but wasn't clear on a lot of the material. After taking serena's class though a lot of things were cleared up. Another thing to mention is that she doesn't require you to do homework, but suggests it if yo're unclear on a subject.

Professor breaks down Math to the simplest as 2+2 which made me a horrible student at Math felt comfortable learning in her classroom. She makes sure her mentor's on the same page; whom was a big bonus help. Serena is AWESOME! Oh and she cracks up at her own jokes.

This was my first math class in 18 years. Serena made it fun and easy to learn. As long as you show up to the lecture and do your homework you will pass. There are several test through out the semester. If you are there participating you will pass with flying colors. One of the best parts of class is the people teaching and mentoring it.

As any math class she assigns HW after every topic learned which can be a lot but its not unreasonable. She writes feedback on test to let you know how you got the question wrong but shell also congratulate you for doing problems well.

best math teacher!

Serena is by far the best math teacher I have ever had. She is always very willing to work with her students and is never boring or dull.

Serena really does care if you pass the class or not and will do everything she can do to help you, but she won't do it for you. Her class is really easy if you pay attention and have questions so be prepared.

You have to go to class to understand whats happening. While the material did become difficult after face to face classes were cancelled, (COVID-19) Serena still taught with clarity. She's for sure the type of math teacher that doesn't make you feel dumb for not understanding. She'll explain and sit down with you until you get. Best math teacher.

Professor Buss is an amazing math professor. She really makes sure each of her students understands the math before moving on, and really cares about her students. Pretty heavy on assignments and participation in class, but it really helps in the long run.

Serena is literally THE BEST professor at UVU. She is so kind, caring and understanding. Whenever I ask questions she never makes me feel dumb for asking. Although the class was live-streamed, she always made it very interactive. Make sure to participate, she is determined to help you pass! Also, if you can get help from the mentors, do!!!

This class was live-streamed. She is really understanding and cares that you understand the material. There are notes you submit from watching her videos and homework due every week leading up to a test. It's not busy work it's homework that will help on the test. Homework and tests are not done through canvas. I would take her class again!

I loved having Professor Buss as my MATH1010 teacher! My class was live-streamed and fairly early in the day but she always came on video joyful and talkative. She is great at teaching the material. Always accepts questions. Makes everything very clear and obvious. Very clear, concise and obviously loves her job and knows what she is doing.

Shes really awesome you have her personal phone number and can text her when you need. I got in a motorcycle accident and she was one of the only ones that actually made sure i was ok and periodically checked up on me. The work is really easy because she explains things really well so it makes it a lot easier

The course was very well structured and material was taught in a way that allowed me to connect one mathematical concept to another.

I really loved taking Professor Buss class! Even though math is not my strong suit, and it was a live streamed style class, I still feel I was able to adequately learn the material. She gives you SO MANY helpful resources to turn to, including very helpful math mentors that can help you one on one. I think its quite impossible to FAIL her class.

Professor Buss was so kind and welcoming to everyone in the class. This made it very easy to ask her questions and very approachable, making a better learning environment.

She's fantastic and was a great teacher to teach math. Different since adjusted for covid but the tests were straight foward and as long as you did the homework you would get a good grade. Home work wasn't bad I was never swamped with homework. SHES GREAT

Serena is one of those teachers that you know genuinely cares about the well being of her students. She WANTS you to pass, is hilarious, kind, and great at what she does. Shes also easy to get ahold of outside of class! I would absolutely take her class again and recommend to her everyone.

She was a really great teacher and I enjoyed her class. She seemed like she genuinely cared about my learning and wanted me to succeed in her class. The class layout was very good and my only struggle was personal problems at home. She was very kind and even gave great reminders about things.

If she sees you are struggling she will personally reach out and make sure that you can get all the help possible and go out of her way to see that you are getting the most out of the class. Serena was an excellent professor would made math fun and enjoyable! We had lots of homework every week and exams every other week but they weren't that bad if you make sure you attend all the lectures and practice. I would recommend taking math 1000 from Serena, she is super easy going and wants you to succeed!!!

Professor Buss is fantastic she breaks the subject down really easily, she helps with every test and does a lot to help her students. I had to drop this class last semester with a different professor and with Prof Buss I got an A... Results speak.

I LOVE Serena! I have never really been good at math until I took this class. She has really good lectures and is really good at making sure you know the material. She is very personable and loves to get to know her students! For homework and tests, she uses mylab which I really enjoyed. I would 100% take this class again.

While I was recovering from an ankle surgery for almost 2 months of this semester. She worked with me and I didn't feel like I was being left behind. I was able to keep my grade up and learned a lot even though I wasn't able to physically be there.

Serena was an absolutely amazing! She took the time to thoroughly go through each conveyor to make sure everyone understood the concepts. She would give ample opportunity to ask questions and adjust her reading to the class, but still covered all the material. If you want to understand math, Serena is who you want to teach you!!

She is the best math teacher on the planet! If youre worried about anything than take Serenas class. She is kind, helpful and funny. She goes out of her way to make sure the students understand including help taking notes and helpful videos made by her to help explain the topics. If she isnt available then wait until she is.

I loved this class so much! I loved the way she did her lectures. we don't really use a textbook but we do have a online course material that is very important since that the site where we do all homework and exams. There is a lot of support and help from the teacher and the mentor. You guys will be alright.

Good math teacher, helped me understand a lot of topics and helped me further when I needed it. Class is easy if you understand and learn math easily, not too much homework as long as you stay ontop of it

I am not good at math at all. She made math a lot easier for me. The mid-term killed me, but the final was not as bad. She wanted you to pass the class. She responds fast and can be funny too. If you have the chance to take her you should. Best professor I have had so far.

She is phenomenal. She wants you to do well in the class. Don't be a crap bag and do your homework on time. This was a block class, so it was very intense. However, she will make sure you have the tools necessary to succeed.

I took Serena's MAT1000 class during the second summer block. It was an evening class. Serena was very easy to get ahold of if I ever had a question and she was willing to provide feedback on how I can do better. Serena is clear about what she expects. Make sure to turn in all work on time. Serena doesn't take late work.

I appreciated Serena as a professor. She offered lots of resources and was a fun lecturer in class. What you get into this class is what you get out of it: make sure you submit assignments on time, stay attentive in class, and get the extra help if needed. She is understanding about grades and gave redos on work and wants every student to succeed.

Professor Buss is the smartest teacher out there, I struggled with keeping a good grade but that was my problem not the teachers.

Ask Questions, Ask Questions, and Ask Questions. Know what calculator you can use on the final exam so you are not surprised by her own policy and not the math department, as it is up to her per the department policy for this level of class. Just because you use it on the midterm does not mean she will let you use it on the final.

Serena was amazing! Her lectures were pretty self explanatory, and did in a way that was understanding and easy. For someone who isn't the best at math, she made fill easy. If you had questions in or out of class, she did her best to make sure you got your question answered. Also is funny and cares for the success of her students.

Great Professor, boring class

I had Serena for MAT1000. She was clear with what she expected and was willing to provide feedback on how to do better. She is very easy to access outside of class. Make sure to turn in notes and show up to class since that is 30% of your grade. She does not accept late work (notes, homework, tests) so make sure to keep up.

Not only does Serena go out of her way to help her students succeed but she makes class FUN. For myself, memorizing the formulas of different equations was difficult but Serena answered any questions I had. She has a great way of connecting different topics to help understand the processes as well throughout the classes. Excellent semester!
