very intelligent and nice prof. his lectures were really good and i looked foreward to them. he showed "poli-toons" at the beginning of the lecutres, which were always cool, and puts the notes on the web, so its easier to follow along.

Sincerely, the best prof. I've had so far!!! He explains concepts clearly and uses current examples to further facilitate your understanding.Great sense of humour! Very passionate in his teachings. You can tell that he actually gives a crap about what he's teaching. A+ without a doubt!

What an amazing professor. He is sooo nice and helpful and he goes out of his way for his students. I have learned so much about Russia and communism. I recommend his classes to anyone who is interested in actually having a professor who is there to teach. Amazing professor, just AMAZING

He is great prof.Putslecture notes on the web which is very helpful for exams and assignments.Making the transition from high school to university has been easier because of him.The TA I have is a fair marker.He should however speak up&articulate so that nobody falls asleep.

Very helpful on both undergrad and grad levels - pressed on time as he is spending it to help his students outside of class; very passionate about his field of study; interesting and insightful way of teaching; extremely knowleadgable; simply put - great in all ways! Take his classes to learn a lot!

Plekhanov is a total hottie. He's really intelligent and is a good speaker. He should be on CNN's Crossfire or something. He should tell students to shut up more 'caus lots of students disrespect him by talking in class. Good looking guy tho.

One of the best in the department by far, always finds time to talk, to everybody. A shame that the department doesn't use him to teach more courses, but hey that shows the closed minded lack of balance from the 6th floor for you. Seriously, take anything you can with Sergei, its well worth it.

this is the worst class i have ever taken not only did the lectures suck but having a bad TA made it worse. the lecture notes being online was the only redeeming thing this course had. If the course wasnt mandatory for POLISCI students i would definetly not take it.

Great prof! Extremely helpful and nice; gives bonus marks for presentations! Easy class-- 3 essays and a final exam (he even gives you the questions for the exam ahead of time). Tutorials were great. Plekhanov ROCKS!

all i can say is, this class was pure chilling becuase of his passionate attitude towards the class. everything was available online, but he was just so interesting, i made sure i went to every one of his classes. take as many of his classes as possible- it's soooo worth it.

The course itself is not difficult, so you could tell he's not taking it seriously, using cartoons and humour as teaching tools. I wouldn't say he was attractive, but if you can't get enough of him, he's on Diplomatic Immunity with Steve Paikin on TVO, which is much better than CNN's Crossfire. Crossfire is for idiotic, poseur political scientists.

generally a nice professor... very approachable and the class had a lot of humor and room for creativity in it... during the elections, we had speakers go up and discuss pros/cons of kerry/bush... he can get boring at times but i blame that on some of the content... very easy class though... very introductory..

I have this professor now and he is honestly the greatest! I havent missed any of his lectures and dont plan on doing so! GREAT GUY :) MY TA IS GREAT ADAM HANIEH. Totally agree with the whole telling students to shut the **** up more! I know you're supposed to notify the prof when its time to go....but its stilldamn rude!

Not very helpful and he can be mean. He is a hard and very unfair marker. I strongly feel that he favours certain kinds of people... basically if you do not have a background in Russian politics good look and i dont recommend the class. Also if you are shy and dont like speaking...good luck bc he will not be impressed. The class was horrible.

He's not the easiest prof in the world but he will never lose your attention. I once chatted with him for a 1/2hr after class and he was very helpful. He's very well educated as well. He'll even respond to e-mails with punctuality! Accusations toward him such as favouritism are cop-outs of responsibility from the student.

He is a smart man, but he does not really relate to his students at all. The workload is beyond what is expected for a 3 credit course and the books are so expensive. There are too many essays in the course and he is not a fair or consistent marker. The most unintelligent 'people' can present and get A's but if you work your ass off on an impres

He's a nice prof, very approachable. However you really have to be interested in eastern europe to take this course and you practically have to teach urself. Also u have to participate in class or else you will get a very unexpected mark!!

Mr. Pleckhanov is a very fun and interesting prof. He often brings in funny cartoons, movie/show clips, music, articles, etc. that relate to what we are learning about. This class isn't too difficult and fairly easy to understand.

prof plekhanov is really nice and approachable. The course, however, is really really dry... he tries to liven it up with cartoons and such, but the fact is that by posting every thing on the net, and giving out exam questions, nobody goes to class.

He likes to ramble on and on and on about things that are not on the exam. Sometimes he does talk about things that are of interest. The easiness of this course tirely depends on your TA so if you get a hardass, tranfer out!

Very good prof! I loved his class and he always seemed to be in a happy mood! You can tell he really enjoys his profession and it causes you to be more interested in the course material. They're are a couple of essays, reading reviews and one exam. The exam was very easy.

Made us watch John Stewart during the Presidential Debates. Was teaching 1st year Poli Sci, which meant that there was nothing he could do about the material. Good man, good Prof, passionate about the entire political process, and it is evident in his lectures.

most awesome professor. Dont even need to go to class because all the notes are posted online. If you get an easy TA, it's an easy A and I never opened my textbook out of the plastic OR attended lectures! It's the luck of the draw with TAs i suppose. He's amazing though (well of what i know of the three times i went to lecture)

Class is pretty easy to get by, it is an intro course, so at times the course might feel a bit dull unless you have a great T.A. to liven it up. Reading material easy+minimal...Plekhanov lectures well, although I always wished he spiced it up a bit.

Great Professor overall for a undergrad, especially first year. His exam for our course was laughably easy - and you don't get to say that alot. But not esay enough to say that it should be changed - everything was quite fair for a introduction course. He is a great lecturer and a great person - I greatly encourage having chats with him after class

What a cool guy. One of those professors that you would expect to see at a really intellectual school. He knows his stuff, he has a really cool political history, and he is genuine. He'll have discussions with the entire lecture hall just because he's awesome.

One of the best profs i ever had. he always responds to emails and is there to lend a helping hand when you need him. Please also note that his online lectures are amazing. The powerpoint's are very helpful. And a great guy at the end of the day.

Perhaps one of the most boring lecture in my entire term. Lectures are either read straight from the slideshows provided or consist of rambling about things irrelevant to the course. Workload is moderate, but the marking scheme or success of the course is entirely dependent on the TA.

Very straightforward and easy class. Most of the grade is from tutorial participation and essays. There's not much point going to lectures, since he basically is reading the slides that are posted online. However, he is a decent lecturer and he knows his stuff. If you can write essays and attend tutorials, there's no reason not to get an A.

He's a nice guy and he certainly knows his stuff, but he tends to ramble and/or go off on tangents. I agree with the poster who said the success of this course is entirely dependant on the TA. However, if you don't like attending every class I'd recommend taking this one since he posts his lectures online and doesn't mark attendance.

This professor is wonderful. His lectures are very interesting and insightful. He is extremely kind and his class was probably the best class I had. Powerpoints are helpful. Class is overall easy.

A soft spoken, gentleman, Professor. Plekhanov is by far one of the most understanding teachers I ever came across. And this man is a walking encyclopedia too!

Very good professor and incredibly interesting. Was part of the Gorbachev administration so he has very unique first hand political science experiences. Highly recommended.

The course itself is pretty dull, but if you have the right TA you'll do fine (Nima!). The best parts of his lectures are when he completely stops bothering with the course material and just goes off on a random digression. Has an enormous amount of experience watching politics. If you take POLS1000 at York, try to get into his class.

Sergei is a prof who actually knows what he's talking about. He has vast experience with all of the material he teaches and he is very clear when he teaches it. All of his notes or online too! Also, he uses multimedia well which helps a lot and his rants are very tasteful as insights. So all in all, Sergei is a cool guy and a great prof.

A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. This guy's a legend, he is passionate, compassionate, and incredibly intelligent. You have to really be a tool to not recognize this and a total slacker if you thought he/the topic was boring. If you want to learn, take his class! If you want an easy mark, go take some BS class where no critical thinking is required. This prof rocks!

One of the greatest professors at York. I am in 4th year now and still remember what he taught. Class attendance is not required 100% of the time but i dont know why you would ever miss his class. Even if you dont like Politics he makes it interesting if you give him a chance. Very approachable and understanding, and a very interesting guy.

Love this professor! Was already interested in politics before, but after his class, I've learned to appreciate it even more. Very knowledgeable,and familiar with politics. Definitely try to get into his class if possible! Great lectures.

Having someone as Prof. Plekhanov as your instructor is something I considered a privilege. Where else can a POLS student gain access to the incredible vessel of knowledge and above all, first hand experience, of the post-communist transformation and the events that led up to it. Very interesting lectures. Highly recommended!

Fantastic professor, starts his lectures with opera! Who doesn't love that! Very knowledgeable and able to present information consistent with a 1000 level class. Exam was odd, is quality of work expected is not consistent with the level of knowledge of a first year student. Should take it a little easier on the exam.

I enjoyed attending his lectures for POLS1000. He's a very good speaker, his lectures are full of jokes and stories. He doesn't tell you what to believe, but gives you the tools to reach your own conclusions. A wide range of topics are covered in depth. Attend tutorial too, you're guaranteed 20% for attendance,and you'll need the essay help.

What a great Prof. Very humorous - you'll be laughing half the lecture. He also has a strange, but funny, tendency to play music before every lecture. You can hear the wealth of knowledge in his words when he speaks. You won't be falling asleep in his lectures. If you're looking for a POLS prof, definitely take Sergei.

Sergei Plekhanov is a professor of the highest caliber. His sharp wit and amazing knowledge and passion makes him a fantastic teacher. He has personal experience related to the topic of Russian politics but he is also a professor of Western politics. Take the class if you want to learn. The papers are long but the topics are fascinating.

The man is a genius, no doubt about it. However this causes him to have a very high standard when it comes to doing well on essays and exams. You really have to work for your grade but he gives you the opportunity to redo essays to bump up the mark ( so he's extremely kind) and is very helpful when you approach him (recommends sources).

Prof. Plekhanov is the greatest IR prof in the Political Science department at York U and a leading expert on Russian foreign policy (with diplomatic experience). He is brilliant, dedicated, articulate, and accommodating. He has high expectations, but he's also a very fair marker. Do yourself a favour and take at least 1 of his upper year classes.

This was my first year at York, he was the best professor I had this semester made the transition from high school to university very calm positive and smooth! easy content if you like Politics please look out specially for this professor and TAKE HIM!!!! I had Professor Plekhanov in my first year, and this class was amazing. He made my first year go fast and interesting. I would recommend his class. TA Joseph Fantauzzi is amazing! AWESOME PROF

Professor Plekhanov is a nice guy. Funny, smart, his lectures are never boring, would stay behind for as long as possible to answer all our questions. Love his class, PowerPoints are detailed and useful. Will definitely take his classes again! TA is also nice, very understanding and accommodating. Take his class and you will not regret!
