Very amazing Russian man. Guys, look...
He's cool if you get to know him even tho he's very intimidating at first. He loves it when students visit him in his office with a question or something.
His ways of doing things are strange and many endeavors seem pointless. Plus, he doesn't like it when the class does well on a test!
great teacher
Do not be fooled about this one hundred level class. There are no study guides, nor does Sergei tell you what to pay more attention to. Map quizzes are easy if you memorize. Remember tiny details in the chapters because that is what he test on. PS: book website tests do not aid in Sergei's tests.
There really are not words to describe how frustrating this man is.
Sergei was an excellent devoted and motivated professor. Anyone that gets the opprotunity to have him teach you should feel grateful. His knowldge of the subject, Ornithology, was abounding and he was able to present the information that was interesting and always making you want more. My highest regards.
Sergie Is an amazing Professor, and the smartest man I have ever met!
he was a very good teacher.
loved sergio and loved the class. it was great to be out in nature
Too much information.
intense but you learn a lot too
very glad to have met this fine colleague
Wonderful class full of adventure, really enjoyed it. Great professor.
Knowledgeable and interesting yet demanding and over-the-top. Expectations too high for an intro biology class.
Very interested in his own subject. Very intelligent in his own subject. Does not allow for those who may not be as intelligent.
good teacher but gives hard tests.
The class was hard, but I feel that I put my best efforts forward and my teacher saw those efforts and took them into account!
The hardest working prof. that i know. He expects it from his students too.
His tests don't go over the general concepts but minute details that no one remembers.
Sergei is awesome!!!
Very knowledgeble instructor and passionate about what he does.
He is a really cool but crazu Russian. Makes class really enjoyable!
lots of reading, but worth it, vital to passing. Awsome environment. fun teacher.
He is a great guy and has a lot of fun stories. He is a tough teacher though. Does not give much lee way on grading.
Would be better if taught a little more based off the reading.
I had a great time in this class. Sergei makes his expectations very clear and his class was always fun and informative.
Excellent professor; very knowledgeable and helpful. If you pay attention you will learn the material.
Very passionate about what he teaches. Ask him about the environment or birds. He loves class participation and never turns his back on a question. So, colleagues, ask him questions! He also loves field trips. :)
Very passionate about what he teaches. But be careful, mention birds to him and you will be wrapped up in conversation for hours.
Extremely passionate professor. Thoroughly enjoyed his class, despite the difficulty of the tests.
Dr.Polovoz is a good teacher if you can take tests well and you can learn by yourself.
He expects you to read the book, and know everything without helping you at all
1. He's Russian, 2. He refers to you as "colleague", 3. He loves red vans (reminds him of Communism), 4. Birds, 5. His accent is awesome, 6. He's the Bill Nye of Russia, 7. His tests are hard, 8. His classes are amazing, 9. Just take his class.
He's awesome. The class is fairly tough, but as long as you stay on top of your reading and STUDY VOCAB, you'll do just fine. He's a great teacher extremly helpful.
passionate about science which overflows into interest of class
I had a lot of fun in the class, and I learned A TON of cool stuff. Just beware of the amount of work. If you already have a heavy class load, wait.
He is a very intimidating man, but a very good professor and very kind to you if you do try to do well in his class.
He knows alot about this subject, sometimes too much! Overall he is very helpful with questions however you need to be on top of your game, you can't slack of in this class, he expects alot out of you as a student. Come prepared
Great guy, hard tests.
I learned a lot, but based on those test score... I probably look like an idiot. I could never understand the questions.
I enjoyed this course, but I wish there were study guides. This would have really been beneficial. There were cases when I spent many frivolous hours studying material that wasn't even on the test. Overall, though, I learned a lot. Also, I wish there were more options for the hot or not question, because hot doesn't even come close. :)
This professor was very hard. His tests killed me, no matter how hard I studied I couldnt get a decent test grade. I tried so many ways of studing nothing helped. I always read the class chapters before class and still didnt do well. I think he is was too hard of a professor for at 110 course. I also invested was more time in the class than worth.
Tests did not meet reading and lesson was mostly student presentaions he does not do much teaching in this class
not a bad course, more lecturing needed
Fun and engaging. "Test is celebration of knowledge."
Like coming to class
A lot of work the first half of the semester.
Great class! I will recommend it to future students. I loved it... truly amazing!
He's the man and a very respectable instructor. Extremely knowledgeable and funny. Oh and awesome cause he's Russian and in the KGB!
He's tough, but if you put forth some effort you will learn a lot from him.
Teaching methods are somewhat unorthodox, but allows for informative discussion. Sometimes loses attention to syllabus, but nonetheless very informative. Not really any structure or organization of lectures.
Knowledgable professor, but you'll have a lot of work to do, and a good amount memorization of vocabulary terms!
Sergei is hilarious! I would certainly recommend him to anyone looking for a more multi-cultural experience in learning.
This class was very tough. A lot is expected of you, and the class is MUCH different than BIO 211; it will make you grow up as a college student. You will be pushed alot but its for your benefit. Some days I wanted to drop the class, but I'm glad I stayed with it. He is a very smart man and his personal stories are fantastic. I recommend this class
Dr. Polozov was very tough, but I did learn a TON.
intimidating
I enjoyed the topic of biology. I stuggled with the class however because vocab is not my strongest subject. I put in a lot of hours to studying for this class and my grade did not reflect it which was discouraging.
The professor is very entertaining, but tests seem sometimes random compared to material covered in class, but that may be my fault.
Great and Knowledgeable in the field. Relies on you to teach yourself. IF you need help seems to not answer email about setting up times to talk to him.
Not a professor for the faint of heart looking for an easy a.
Hardest teacher I've ever had, but he is also the greatest teacher I have had. He is passionate about Biology, and will teach you like you never have been taught.
Difficult at times but can be very intresting and fun. Especially when he lectures.
a very very difficult professor but you will learn a lot if you really try. Textbook is used A LOT!! Tests are difficult, but not impossible. Dedicate your time to this class.
He's a fun and great guy, but his English is sketchy at times, making his test questions seem like tricks.
Great guy. He is an inspiration to those that use him as an advocate... His dedication and understanding is impressive. He will do anything to help a student. I love the class. He pushes students and for those who are in college to be pushed, like they should be, will thrive.
The hardest and most satisfying class I've ever had.
Super nice guy! His tests are so flipping hard though! He likes to test you on things you never went over in class. His classes are always fun and he really wants to help you pass his class, although that's a challenge in itself!
This was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken but I loved it. He is an incredible professor. Do the reading and go to class on time. Don't yawn during class, and be prepared to discuss.
I went into this class knowing my golf scheduled was packed. It was hard to keep up but it was satisfying, I can honestly say that I walk out into the world with a better understanding of my surroundings.
BIO 212 was intimidating at first. However, as long as you stay on top of all your projects you should do well. Interacting in class is important. Dr. Polozov is one of the best professors I ever had a class with. I was tempted to go into a different branch of biology because of his class! If you engage with him you will get a lot out of this class
Incredibly difficult class. Very much self taught. He's a pretty nice guy and he definitely knows his stuff, but he wasn't very good at teaching it. His tests are SUPER hard, and you better know ALL your vocab for your daily quizzes. Ask lots of questions because you'll have to understand EVERYTHING. Definitely a challenging class
Super hard test, got F's on all of them even knowing the chapter forward and back, its all logical thinking. Crazy hard class, but well worth it. Would take a class with him any day.
Dr. Polozov's class was the toughest course I've ever taken in my entire college career but it felt so good to pass, knowing that I put in so much effort for it.
Smart professor who really know's what he is talking about. Is he an easy professor - no. So if you want an easy A take another course. If you want to actually learn something, then he is the best. Knows how to teach, and does it well. I took his Marine Biology class on Semester at Sea, and I honestly learned a lot. Lots of vocab quizzes though.
Hardest class I've taken, but Polozov is so enthusiastic about what he teaches that it's infectious.
Polozov is an awesome guy but this class was the hardest class Ive ever taken. It was a 200 level but he taught it as if it was a graduate class.
His manner and accent were hard to get around at first. He was more easy going as time went on, he truly cares about what he's talking about; he's also incredibly knowledgeable. But... this was the hardest class I've ever taken. A 100 lvl taught like something upper div, I am avoiding taking him again, simply for my sanity.
Amazing, passionate, and great teacher. He is not by any means an easy A but you will learn a lot in his class. Make sure you remember you MUST turn in every assignment to pass his class. Also, recommend taking online. 100% recommend as a teacher
Dr. Polozov was the best teacher I ever had at Concordia. He is very knowledgeable on all topics covered in class. He is a tough grader, but you feel you really earned the grade after finals. I would definitely take more classes from him.
Very knowledgeable about what he does. I didn't enjoy the class, but I respect his passion for science. It was hard work, which I didn't appreciate from a class I didn't want to take and doesn't have anything to do with my major. But I do feel like I have a better understanding about general science, so thanks.
Dr. Polozov was incredibly intelligent and compassionate about every subject he teaches. He makes learning easy by making the concepts fun.
Dr. Polozov is a well-read, worldly, inspirational man with a passion for doing good to others and the environment. I recommend taking any class he teaches. If given the chance to go on a field biology course with him - Take it! My favorite professor by far.
Dr. Polozov was always prepared, he expected his students to come to class equally prepared, and he taught passionately. He was my favorite professor by far, and I developed a lasting interest in ecology because of his investment. I appreciate his humor, his interest in his students, and that he shared his life experiences freely. Highly recommend!
Dr. Polozov was my professor for a Tropical Biology class that included a trip to Belize. He is passionate about the material and sharing immersive experiences in nature with students. His teaching style is rigorous and kept me engaged. The trip was organized impeccably and I will never forget my learning experience as one of his students.
Hands down one of the best professors I have had. He makes sure you get all the important information that you need while presenting it to you in a way that makes you want to learn more.
Dr. Polozov is an academic at his very core. One thing I took away from the class which was entirely unrelated to the course material was that diligence and effort are critically important in ANYTHING worth pursuing. Dr. Polozov pursues education in this manner. He constantly improves and innovates on his already wealthy abundance of experience.
I always enjoyed attending Dr. Polozov's class and learning from his wealth of knowledge and passion for the natural world. He has valid teaching tactics that ensure students from all backgrounds learn and appreciate natural science. After taking his biology course with a field component, I was inspired to explore ecology further as a career path.
Dr. Polozov is knowledgeable, passionate, & inspiring. It's rare to find a question that he can't answer, but he's always transparent when unsure. He demands students' attention & participation, & his tests are difficult, but that's college! His expectations are straight forward and he sees worth in every student. His field courses are fantastic.
