Absolutely terrible. He is by far the worst professor I have ever had. He is soooooo boring and you can't understand a thing he says! I am a Spanish major so I am used to accents. DO NOT take a class with him!
Very hard to understand. He assigns homework that he has not yet covered because he expects you to know the information before he teaches it. A lot of homework and a few projects. I would suggest not taking him.
Do not take him! This class should not be as hard as he made it, I honestly learned more in my first class of 222 than I did in this whole class. He has things on the final that I had never seen or heard of before and he expects all the homework done before he teaches it. I spent my whole semester in the tutor, be prepared to do the same thing.

Worst Accounting teacher I've had so far at UW-L. The notes he uses during lectures don't help at all. Your best bet is to just read the textbook and look at the examples they give. Exams and quizzes are hard. Have to do a group case study, which isn't that bad. Overall, the class is hard.
If you wanna learn abt accounting...take him!! If you just wanna get an easy grade..then dont!
Too bad he was the only choice for ACC 322. One of the worst professors i'd taken. Maybe he's knowledgable but he isn't capable of communicating the materials to his students. Strictly enforces his due dates. I pretty much had to learn on my own by reading the textbook
knows what he's talking about & an easy A if you do the assigned tasks - people just need to stop assuming A's are freely handed out at this level, and actually do the work...
I have never written a review on here prior to this, but after seeing the poor reviews for this guy I couldn't help but voice my opinion. Intermediate accounting 2 was not too difficult. If you show up to class, read your book and do you homework you will do just fine. I learned a lot in this class, just don't expect it to be extremely easy
He's a very nice guy, and cares a lot about his students. But, he doesn't present his information very clearly and is sometimes confusing. If you want an easy A, don't take him.
it's a really nice guy, willing help all of his students. i've learn a lot in his class, and if u just read the book carefully and finish those assignment. u'll got at least an A/B
As far as teachers go, this guy is one of the worst. (he's not absolutely terrible, but the far majority of teachers are better than him). My biggest complaint is that his powerpoints had like no information on them. So to learn the material I had to do a lot more work than what should of been necessary. HW due every class is annoying as well.
I have yet to have him as a teacher but he is my advisor. If you are an accounting major and he assigned him as an advisor - ALWAYS get a second opinion on what he advises. He doesn't always know what he is talking about. But other accounting professors will be happy to help you!
Very nice guy and very willing to help if you ask him. Quizzes aren't hard but the tests, while not long, are still tough. I recommend using the Wiley website if you use it for the course. Orion is a huge help preparing for tests and quizzes.
All he does in class is read directly off of the powerpoint. He does not "teach" you and isn't much help when you do ask questions in class. I would highly recommend any one else but him in the accounting department. Unless you are an extremely self motivated/self taught do not take this class.
Prof Komissarov answered any and all questions that were asked of him, and would make sure the question was answered. The class is hard, but there is no escaping that. If you do the assignments, readings, and attend class; you will do well. If you skip any of those you will have a tough time. I recommend him as a prof and will take him again.
Accounting 322 is meant to be a bear of a class, and it is. While Sergey tries to be helpful he is absolutely dreadful at answering your questions, both one on one or in class. Tests are MC but based soley on the book so you must study it diligently if you want to pass this class.
If you want to learn accounting - take this professor. If you are willing to put in the time, 322 is a lot more bearable than people think. I wish this professor taught more upper-level accounting courses.
His class is very clear cut when it comes to what's expected of you. If you talk once or twice every class, your participation grade will be great. All quizzes are in groups. Tests are tough, but reading the book will help a lot. Classes are structured with minimal lecture and mostly practice problems. He's better than most ACC profs at UWL
He doesn't put enough emphasis on lecture, you just show up to class and do practice problems and with ACC 322 I felt like we needed him to expound on the reading from the textbook and drive it home and that never happened. I felt like I needed to teach myself everything. Unfortunately he is the only one who teaches this class at the time.
Professor Komissarov really knows about accounting. Sometimes his extensive knowledge leads him to overlook some of the smaller details that new students get tripped up on. I went to him, both after class and during office hours, and he was always willing help out. Read the chapter before lecture and the class is easy.
The worst
Do not take him! The first exam average was 70% and the second average was 59%... if that does not tell you what kind of a professor he is, than i don't know what will. He also never explains what he is doing, he just does examples and expects you to know how to follow along. Does not answer questions well either.
Went to his office hours once and left in tears, he is so condescending whenever you ask him a question. Would definitely recommend taking any other professor. All he does is read from the slides and doesn't know what he's doing half the time.
terrible and makes alot of mistakes in class and is corrected by students who are often CLUELESS because we dont know what the heck is going on. He grades on PARTICIPATION which is quite odd for an accounting class, and I found it hard to participate. Many students in my class dropped before the 2nd exam bc he was so bad and they were gonna fail.
Do not take! He purposely designs his class so it is practically impossible for students to get an A. One exam the class average was a 57% and he refused to add a curve. By the end of the semester half the class dropped because they were doing so poorly.
Nice guy, but doesn't know the first thing about teaching. Ask him a question and he will only confuse you more. Does not provide study guides. Teaches you like you are an accounting major. Averages on tests get as low as 60% and you will just move on to new material.
Hard to understand at first but you get used to it. Participation is required and a part of your grade. Tests are fairly straightforward with multiple choice and problems. Online homework.
Difficult to understand what he says most of the time. Does an absolutely terrible job of teaching the class so I taught myself everything thus far.
Nice guy, but would not recommend. Tests make up well over the majority of your grade, and the averages were abysmal with no curve. They were mostly made up of conceptual questions rather than problems with actual numbers, which I think is way harder for an accounting exam. He also gave a pop quiz the Monday after spring break. Who does that?
Horrible
I would not recommend this professor! Tests are difficult and has nothing to do with what we are taught in class, nor do they have anything to do with numbers, calculations, etc.. like an accounting class should. I found it hard to participate in this class and I often times felt like he did not know what he was talking about.
You will spend all of lecture working calculations and problems, which he claims is the best way to teach. However, the tests are 75% multiple choice with lots of very vague conceptual questions that sometimes seem to be missing information or have more than one right answer.
Do not recommend. Smart guy, not a good teacher. Tends to get nervous, and along with his accent, it can become very confusing, quickly. i found myself in the tutors almost everyday.
He has an accent that slows down the lecture. The multiple choice questions on the exams were confusing, however the free response questions are strait forward, and he is a fairly generous grader. Most of what I learned came from working through homework problems.
Basically 85% of your grade is based of the exams. The average grade on our first exam was a 68. That should tell you enough.
Tests are worth almost your whole grade. Averages on the tests are 65% and extremely hard.
Doesnt teach much for the students basically just reads book to you then when tested on it only uses minimal portions and grades hard so far the class average after 2 exams is a 67% which isnt even a c in his class all around just doesnt feel like you learn anything because if you take the time to actually understand topics still might beoff exam
I took ACC in high school and this was still a tough class for. He has an accent so it's sometimes hard to understand him & he doesn't explain material very well. There are 3 exams plus a final. The multiple choice are the hardest part of the exam because the questions are worded weird. You definitely have to put the time and work in for his class.
Lots of homework online, but unlimited tries. My biggest issue with him was that he never told us what was going to be on the exams. I had a hard time knowing what to study. He's SUPER nice though. I had a problem with some of my completed assignments getting deleted and he gave me the points back, no questions asked. Nice, but not a good teacher.
Sergey is a really cool dude, but is not a good teacher. We had 4 exams, 3 quizzes, and online homework for the things amounting to our final grades. Lectures get pretty boring but the content isn't overwhelming by any means. You have to go above and beyond and semi-teach yourself if you want a good grade.
Your grade in this class consists of 3 exams, the final exam, 3 quizzes, and homework. The homework doesn't correlate to the exams very much and can be pretty difficult because you have to get the exact numbers. The exams aren't too tricky as long as you study for them. The final exam consists of multiple choice and writing all statements learned.
At times he was hard to understanding and although it's obvious he has a lot of knowledge on accounting he has a hard time teaching it to people who don't understand small details. The homework took me a lot of time but thankfully on cengage there was check my work options.
His lectures may be the most boring lectures I have ever been apart of. Pretty much just reads out of the book without much actual substance. Zero review before tests. Highest grade Ive heard someone get on a test was a 85. Seems like a nice guy just very awkward. The only way I made it through the class was by doing homework and teaching myself.
In this class, YOU have every chance to succeed. I would say test preparation does lack, however if you read the slides and go over everything you will be completely fine. Many students I know are going to pass with A's. Many others sit on their computers and cannot figure out why they are not passing. He is great.
He is a good teacher. The students who complain are probably the same ones who dont pay attention. He is straight forward with his topics and explains everything thoroughly. You have to ask questions when you dont understand something or hell keep moving along. He does a great job answering questions in class.
Professor Komissarov is by far the worst professor I had during this online semester. He basically decided to take the semester off for himself because he didn't lecture or provide anything other than a word document and once in a while a short video of how to do part of a problem. This professor obviously does not care if his students learn.
I am a past student who has taken him multiple times, only because I had to. I was an accounting major, and in our advanced classes, the students had to teach him how to do the problems. I get the communication barrier and getting embarrassed about being wrong, but this guy just didn't understand the material he was teaching. Glad I graduated
He just reads off of the slides in class and then goes through problems every once and a while on his own and just has us watch. Has no way to check-in if his students are understanding the content. The online assignments do not always correlate with what he reads off of the slides. I got switched to having him as a professor.
Instead of teaching, he just sits in the front of class and lectures on what is on the slides. A lot of the things we learn don’t correlate with some parts of the homework assignment. He takes his time to respond to emails, and also doesn’t make sure people are keeping up with what he’s teaching, he will jump over slides a lot. Have fun
Not sure why the bad reviews but he was an excellent professor. He just got straight to the point during his lectures and made it clear on exactly what you need to know for exams. Three total exams that consist of MC and some written answer questions. Lectures were directly related to homework and homework was directly related to exams.
Sergey is a super nice guy, but not a great professor. His class is entirely lecture-based, and he reads off of the slides. He provided no test prep and rarely gives example problems. I am a pretty good student, and I struggle trying to figure out what he expects for each type of problem. I would avoid him if you can!
Took his class online over the summer and the guy was pretty much non-existent. The only form of communication was emailing to remind us of upcoming exams. He had zero recorded lectures or instructional videos on canvas and expected us to learn everything from the textbook. If this is anything like his in-person classes, avoid him at all costs.
Professor Komissarov is by far the worst professor I have ever had. The only lecture material he uses is material provided by the textbook company, and this leads to boring, non-engaging lectures. Example problems are rarely done in class, so the students get no opportunity to apply their knowledge. Very few grades. Be ready to teach yourself.
Sergey doesn't speak great English, so it's hard to understand him sometimes. His lectures are copy and paste from the textbook. He doesn't check in with his students at all to make sure they're retaining the material. 3 homework assignments every week. Get ready to teach yourself and go to the tutors for homework help.
He is a great teacher. He doesn't have perfect English but he talks very slow. He never speaks too fast. He stops and asks for questions at least 5 times every class. He actually answers the questions and they make sense. He does 2-3 examples of problems for each lecture. Group exam is the same as the individual, which really helps your grade
You cannot understand him and he even if you get 100% on all the homework and quizzes, you will. not pass with an A. Lecture heavy and hard to read his handwriting on the board. Avoid him at all costs.
Very quickly got to the point where my goal was just to pass the class. Lots of hw, no test prep and insanely boring lectures. Never checked in on the class or got any classroom participation. Had no idea what to expect for any of the exams. No matter how much I studied I never felt confident about anything I did in that class. Avoid if you can.
Sergey was nice but his class was not. He's kinda hard to understand which made it harder to understand the material. Everything is eventually useful and you just don't wanna miss class. Lectures did get boring though. He'll likely give you an extension if you are responsible and show you care. Don't wait til Sunday night to start the online hw lol
Sergey's class is difficult but he is very clear with his teaching style. He's not a slide reader, but comes to class with an agenda often based on the slides. Lot's of bad reviews here probably because nobody shows up to class. Attendance is non mandatory but you need to show up if you want to understand the course.
Do NOT take him. His handwriting is often sloppy on the board, and it is difficult to understand him. And he doesn't really give you any test prep. His lectures get very boring. I recommend to take this class with a different professor.
I think Sergey gets a bad rep but I personally have found him "good enough", you have to show up for class, the lectures are boring but if you pay attention and do your homework, you can understand the material well. For every exam, you take it once, then again as a group to boost your grade.
He is a good professor and is always willing to answer questions. He explains them in another way that makes sense. His lectures are boring and there is a lot of homework but he is a good guy.
He was a good guy but had very boring lectures and did not give many exam review materials, making it hard to study. Knowing what would be on the exam was hard because he didn't say much about them. There was homework due every weekend online on connect ed.
Look: people are absolutely hating on him, but he really wasn't that bad. It was a hard class, but he does two exams each time. One on your own, one in a group of other classmates (sit by some smart people!). I didn't read the book, but I knew a lot of the content, so it felt fine.
Dr. K does not deserve his bad ratings. His class is tough, but the weekly homework and content is manageable, and he provides good examples on the board. He is often available to meet in his office, and will answer questions and help with what you bring. I had a very good experience with Dr. K and would recommend him to those new to accounting.
He was a decent teacher. Be ready for lots of homework, but for 50 points on each test he lets you go over the test with classmates, which can help you to get some points back.
Class is very homework heavy but really not that bad. You get multiple attempts to complete homework for full credit. Lectures are boring but cover everything that will be on hw/tests/etc. Only a handful of tests that you take twice. Once alone and once with a group to get points back. Overall a heavy workload class but should be easy to pass
I don't think Prof Komissarov knows what is going on and understands what he is teaching. He puts examples on the board and if you ask a question, he cannot answer. He also constantly makes mistakes and are only found when students point them out. If he's not doing this he is lecturing word for word off the power point. Painfully boring class
Professor Komissarov is a good guy, but not a good professor. He is (currently) the only professor to teach ACC421, so you'll have to deal with his classes. Every class is a straight lecture from him reading from his note sheets or slides. Exams are tough, but there's a group exam (same exam) the class after to improve your overall class grade.
Do NOT take this professor. I would consider myself smart, and I have never struggled as bad as I did in this class. Your expected to know 3 chapters of information for every exam, and the lectures in class have no correlation to the exams.Outside of class work is needed to get close to barely passing.his lectures are also SO boring. DON'T TAKE HIM
Class is almost purely lecture, with an occasional group assignment that will not be announced. The homework is not nearly enough practice, and I rarely feel like I understand anything. His writing is difficult to read, and he speaks fairly quietly so I'm basically teaching myself. He doesn't return exams, so I don't even know what to improve on.
Sergey is not very clear when it comes to teaching class. He will teach lecture on one thing and then the homework is on a completely different thing. His exams are on half of the content he teaches and then the other is random stuff he goes over for one minute
Nice guy, not the best professor. Rambles on for pretty much the entire class, homework takes forever, lectures are boring and all over the place, exams are almost impossible, Take someone else, nice guy though.
Everyone is saying that Sergey is a bad professor, but these people likely put forth no effort to get a grade they want. Accounting is a tough subject, and it is not for everyone. Sergey does a good job of explaining problems/examples in class. His exams aren't easy, but if you put forth the right amount of effort to learn, they are not that tough.
Sergey's rating is misleading. Paying attention in lectures, following the example problems and doing the homework will set you up to do well in 221 and 421. Lectures may not be the most exciting thing in the world but he gets to the point and delivers to content well. Group exams are done after each individual one is taken for a grade booster.
Sergey was a professor I would never want anyone to take. His lectures were very boring and I could barely read his handwriting. I also went to his office hours for help, and he avoided the questions I asked. His exams also seemed to never actually relate to what we were learning and he never gave exam reviews. I recommend not to take him.
I struggled in this class because accounting is very tough and the lectures are very long and boring. The exams were hard and I didn't show up to class as much as I should've but Sergey let me redo up to 9 past assignments to boost my grade and this was huge!! He can be intimidating but he cares about his students! Put in the work and you're good!
ACC 421 is not an easy class. Prof. Komissarov does a good job of explaining the content in class and giving relevant practice problems.
your grade is mostly tests majority of your learning is done outside class. hw is online, actually do it. There is no study guide what so ever and you don't receive your tests back or see what u got wrong. Grouptest redos for pts back and he is understanding and nice but b ready to put in the work to pass
Honestly, this guy was way better than I thought. If you go to office hours, literally everything people complain about him is fixed. About 2 hours of homework per week, although it can go faster because I'm just slow. After exams, he'll have you complete them in groups for a bunch of points which can be a great grade booster. Good guy and teacher.
I really disliked this course. He teaches us a different unit from a slideshow every week and we have homework, smart book, quiz associated with each and then 3 tests. The tests always included something way harder than on the homework and he doesn't give us a study guide or a heads up. He's also just subtlety judgmental when asked a question.
This professor really love what he was teaching, while it was pretty lecture heavy there were also a few in class activities that would give you credit. I would say if you are in this class and lost go to his office hours, it helped me a TON. Focus on the homework's, review those before exams. He is very sweet but may seem intimidating at first.
Holy moly lectures are boring, class is super hard. Most people are seniors and their last semester and that is not taken into consideration. Class is super tough and he does not make it easier.
If you actually pay attention and put in some effort to study it's an easy A. Lectures are very boring. On random days he'll pass around an attendance sheet so you never know when it's graded but it's best not to skip. next class after every exam you do the exam again in groups to get points back. Weekly homework doesn't take too long.
Realistically, Sergey should not be getting above a 3. Lectures were very boring and didn't explain much into detail. Getting ready for exams was also tough because he gave no study guides and there wasn't much correlation between the homework to what was on the exam. Office hours were also inefficient as he took way too long to explain things.
He's not a bad professor but he talks in circles sometimes and doesn't spend enough time on exam material. He's also kind of hard to understand because of his accent and my class was in a lecture hall. If you have to take the class he isn't horrible but be ready to teach yourself.
Sergey is not that bad at all. Sit towards the front and focus as he can be hard to hear in a big lecture hall. You may have to do a little independent work to fully understand the topics, but success definitely achievable as you only need 90% for an A. He's funny of you get to know him too.
Honestly, he is not the worst professor I have had. He is a little hard to understand and lectures are quite boring. He tends to go in circles about what he is teaching. Exams are definitely a little harder in my opinion, but if you go and ask him questions he is super approachable and quite funny once you talk to him a little bit!
He is very good at teaching difficult concepts. If you go to class and pay attention you will be fine. The class is manageable unlike what most people say. I did not use the textbook at all but many people find it very helpful for this course.
Sergey is a nice guy, but he can struggle teaching difficult concepts. His lectures will sometimes leave you confused. Tests aren't too difficult, and he allows group tests. He is knowledgeable about the material but sometimes struggles to get it across.
