A Professor with passion. Why some people looked bored during class? Maybe they needed art class, so choose Music appreciation. I wish more professor those kind.
no idea how to rehearse. no one can understand a word he says. he doesnt know how to motivate anyone.

it can be difficult to understand dr. espinoza at times, but i find that paying careful attention fixes that. he is a wonderful musician and passionate about what he does. he can be too much of a softy from the podium, but battling the pervasive uta apathy towards excellence is difficult i'm sure.
Superb Conductor and Professor!!! Is a Master Musician! Wonderful person, caring, helpful, sweet, and funny
He's ok, the class is easy just show up and the quizes are only about 12 questions. classes cant get easier than this.
Easy professor. Not boring and I didnt need to buy a book to make an A in this class. Just review his powerpoints before the test and you should do good
Easy class! Attendance not mandatory, just make sure you get somebody to sign you in!! He offers extra credit to make up for missed attendance points. Don't buy the book! I didn't open it once. Just study the slide shows he emails before exams & you'll be good! I took this class Mon/Wed/Fri and only went once a week...I made an A!
easy professor.
class couldnt be any easier. tests are easy multiple choice with extra credit, you have to sign in every class but a friend can do it for you or you can leave after. tons of extra credit available and he emails you the notes you need for tests
Dr. Espinosa is a great instructor!! He makes the test easy. All you have to do is attend the class. He also emails out powerpoints before test to help you. Like I said, go to class and you will get an A.
This class was okay to me. I am not a fine arts major so it wasn't really interesting. The first test was hard but after I realized that I had to study for this class, the tests became easier for me.
Pretty good teacher. Easy if you attend class. Textbook not necessary, just take notes in class and study powerpoints. Easy A
great teacher, easy A, have someone sign u in or take turns wth ur friends signing each other in,no book needed, dont wate ur $$$,the powerpoints are basically the tests study that and ur cool, wud definately recommend!
You don't need to go to classto get an a just study the ppt he emails you. And have a friend sign you in
easiest class ever. he sends powerepoints two weeks before tests so it's not necessary to take notes. he does take attendance..if he didnt no one would come to class. gives lots of extra credit opportunities, and has a cool accent. he's a great prof, easy class, would recommend to anyone!
Dr. Espinoza was the greatest. He really cares about what he does and he wants you to care too. Never opened my book, all you have to do is study the powerpoints and it's an easy A!
Great professor!
He is a very knowledgeable professor and he is very skilled in teaching. But if you are somebody who don't respect your professors and like to talk in class please don't enroll in this class. He is a A+ professor so if you are a disciplined student then it is the class to be .
Dr. Espinosa was very helpful. The class is not too difficult as long as you go over the powerpoints and pay attention in class.
His classes are sooo much fun to go to! He gives usually easy online hw where it gives you the correct answer. his tests are pretty easy and gives a few bonus questions so if you get 5 wrong you still do well. definitely recommend him
Great professor, loves what he does and tries to pass that onto his students. Teaches huge classes and tries to actually take attendance on 200+ students which is both amusing and annoying at the same time because it is a madhouse when he puts the sign in sheets out. Doesn't send power points out before tests anymore. Still a great class.
Professor Espinosa is intelligent, funny and he has
Professor Espinosa is GREAT! He has excellent didactic skills! He knows how to make the class interesting and easy to understand. Easy A if you attend his lectures! And please attend them all, he's funny!
Profoundly easy class, he throws a huge curve on his tests. Unless you have a fervent interest in Music Appreciation, please don't willingly take this class in the morning. Beautiful music + No sleep at night = PASSED OUT! Nonetheless, Espinosa is a nice, helpful man. Very dedicated to his profession, and somewhat funny.
it was simple, just do the online exercises, study them, read over what he tells u to read over, study notes and u can do well.got an A, also gives extra credit by going to his concerts
Super funny, smart, passionate about his subject; an all-around good quality guy. Yes, the class is extremely easy, but it is interesting nonetheless. Take him; he is awesome.
Awesome professor. He loves what he does. Takes attendance sometimes before and after class. You have to study for the exams. This class is fun! Take him!!!
Curriculum requires listening to music and identifying elements, which can be difficult, but he teaches how to recognize them and have examples online.Lectures can be boring and his metaphors comparing music and everyday life can be kinda long.Tests not hard if redo hmwk and he has a review before tests. Attendance important
He is a great guy. Has thick Spanish accent, but it's understandable. Amazing music player. Gives extra credit for going to watch his orchestra in plays. No reason why it shouldn't be an A.
He's probably the funniest professor I've ever met, if not one of the funniest people. He's a great guy and basically does everything possible to get you an A in the class. It's not hard, just go to class and go over his test review for about 30 minutes before the test and you'll be fine.
He is the FUNNIEST professor I've ever had. Such a fun loving guy, and really loves what he does. Gives extra credit opportunities, and tells you exactly what you need to know for tests. There's no reason not to get an A in this class.
Very easy class, especially if you have a background in music from band, choir, etc. He does not make you purchase the book, opting for Wikipedia at times. Do, however, be careful of attendance, however. He doesn't take attendance unless he feels like a significant amount of the class is absent.
He is funny, and very immersed in his teaching. The man is exuberantly passionate, and it shows through his lectures. He has a thick accent, but be patient, because you get use to it rather quickly. The class is easy, with mandatory quizzes and five tests, one of which he will drop. Maintain an a until the final and you won't have to take it.
Nice and very funny at times. But he knows his music and play the heck out of it!!!!! Just do the work and come to class and will make a grade. But thur it all he is a very nice guy. But do go to the music programs. They are nice.
He is AWESOME! This class is easy and anyone who makes lower than an A just didn't try. easy online quizzes, easy tests, funny teacher. This class is worth it
Very easy. Do not need book. You can easily google quiz answers. The quizzes are not timed. The test is like the review. He tries to make it obvious. Only peeve I had was that he makes you attend a music event on campus. The majority of them cost money. Plan ahead for the free events and show up early. It is surprising how many people attend.
Very easy class! His quizzes are online and they are not timed plus you can take them as many times as you want. The material is not difficult and attendance is not mandatory. Very cool professor, loved his personality!
He is a great professor! You can tell he loves what he's teaching, which makes the class interesting. It's a easy class, you can definitely make an A! His tests are simple; he goes off the review. Only trouble I had on the exams was listening to music & identifying it. Don't buy a book! Everything can be found online.
He is a funny professor. He believes in the students asking questions, so if you have any question he will definitely answer it. His class is very interesting. He posts reviews and quizzes online. You have a week to complete the quizzes & you have as many chances to do them. I totally recommend him. P.S. He has an accent, so don't be surprised!
Easily one of my favorite professors at UTA. He is funny, and tests are super easy. Don't need the book, don't really even need to attend class because he records his lectures and posts them online. Classes are very enjoyable and interesting. Highly recommend!
Hilarious professor, easily one of the easiest classes at UTA. He really loves what he teaches which makes it interesting, and he gives you easy access to all the info that will be on tests so you dont HAVE to be in every lecture, the lectures are also recorded and available online to review. Easy A!! Book not needed at all, doesnt even refer to it
Dr. Espinosa is awesome! He is hilarious and has tremendous passion for what he does, which is nice because it makes class fun. Tests are easy and straight forward. Really enjoyed this class and learned much more than I anticipated.
Professor Espinosa is awesome. He is very nice and often makes the whole class laugh. He isn't very good at replying to emails, and one-on-one help is near impossible because his class is massive. He gives a lot of information through blackboard and if you go to class and do the quizzes on blackboard, it's an easy A.
Great professor, easy class.
How easy can a class get? The A is handed to you on a silver platter.
Guaranteed A if you study for 5 hours before every exam. So all in all an A for 20 hours of work. Good bargain. :)
Good teacher, super easy class. Pay attention in class and review the notes prior to test, you'll be fine.
Easy class. You don't really have to show up to class because he posts videos of the class online. However, you should watch the videos if you miss. Overall good teacher.
By far one of the most impressive teachers at U.T.A. His love for music is so sincere and heartfelt. His class is a lot of fun and although it was an auditorium sized group, he frequently interacted with us on a personal level. Take him if you get the chance, the experience alone is worth it.
Let me preface this by saying that I maybe went to 10% of the classes. That being said I have an A. However the professor is funny, borderline hilarious, and if you stick out during class he will single you out be warned. He truly cares about music and has an interesting teaching style. CONS: is that he could've cared more but with 300 students
This a fairly easy course, but be careful, some of the tests later in the semester become more difficult. It is an easy A if you attend class and pay attention. No textbook required!
My favorite class at UTA! Super easy A. You'd have to be dead to earn anything other than a A. The quizzes are on blackboard and are unlimited attempt. The quizzes are a great review for the test. You don't have to show up for class but this class is SO MUCH FUN that you will want to go. It doesn't get any easier than this....
AWESOME!! He's funny and makes it a very interesting class.
Super easy! Funny and entertaining. Tons of extra credit opportunities. All answers to quizzes are online. Very relaxed and friendly.
Great class to take, its an easy A and you dont really have to try hard at all. And if you actually go to class(I didn't) hes very funny and interesting.
Literally went to class on test days and made a high A. He's awesome; you'd have to be in a coma to not make an A and even then you'd still probably make an A.
Awesome professor. Makes music easy to understand and is very clear. He is also very helpful, and he gives a lot of extracredits also. If you study what he tells you to study you'll make an A. He drops the lowest test grade, and I made an A skipping his last test. That's awesome!
BEST PROFESSOR I'VE TOOK SO FAR. It's an easy A if you go to his lectures and pay attention on what's going on class. You are not required to attend, but I suggest you do. The quizzes are online, and you can take them as many times as you want to.There are 5 tests, and he drops the lowest test grade.
You'd be hard-pressed not to do well in this class if you just attend a few lectures.
He reviews you before each exam. If you attend class and pay attention, you'll do well.
This class is a great one to take if you're needing to complete your fine art credit. Professor Espinosa is very passionate about music and makes classes worth going to. There are 5 multiple choice tests and he drops the lowest one. There are also quizzes you have to complete before each test, but you can take them as many times as you need to in order to get a 100. He makes getting an A very easy to accomplish. Highly recommend!
great professor, very fun class!
He is a great proffessor! As long as you take notes you will pass the test and quizzes. All quizzes are online and can retake them as well. Tests are short and multiple choice. Offers ton of extra credit! He really does make the class interesting even if your not a music major! Fun and very easy!
Easy class. Some people say you dont have to study but you really do have to study and watch the videos b/c you'll have to differentiate the different eras of gothic singing and stuff by listening to it. But overall easy A.
This is the MUST TAKE class for your fine arts credit. The workload is very light, and the exams are straightforward if you attend class and put in 2 or 3 hours of studying before the test. Dr. Espinosa is a great guy, he'll work with you. Don't cheat on his exams. It's sad that I saw some people get caught doing so this semester.
He is amazing! eat professor!
Prof Espinosa is a good prof for music appreciation. 5 tests but drops 2, quizzes on Blackboard before the tests but you can retake them as many times as you'd like, and pretty much just show up and pay attention and you'll pass. He's chill, funny, and passionate about music. Good if you needed an elective cred like I did. Definitely recommend
Slight accent. He loves what he does, teaches well, and makes it entertaining. Mandatory group project gets mired down by slacker freshmen not pulling their weight. Fortunately that's only 10% of grade. Class is not a free grade, but if you show up, pay attention, take notes, listen to music, you'll ace it. Great guy. Need more profs like him.
Definitely take this class! Professor Espinosa is really funny and entertaining. All of his tests are multiple choice. 5 tests but he drops one. Pretty easy for the most part. Only con is a group project. Doesn't take attendance often and posts lectures online. I'm definitely glad I took him.
Pretty easy class. Got Bs on all the tests but still ended up with a solid A because of all the extra credit. Group project was terrible, but he ended up giving everybody a 100 apparently so don't worry about it. He takes random attendance but unless you miss 5 times you're good.
Dr. Espinosa is a great teacher. He makes music interesting and relevant. If you attend class and take notes, you will pass. It's not hard at all! No book required. There is a group project that is only worth 10% of the grade, and he drops the lowest exam. Online quizzes also make up 10%, so don't forget those. Bottom line: take Espinosa!
I loved this class. Dr. Espinosa's lectures were always interesting and fun. Easy class. As long as you listen to the music videos he suggests, go to class, and don't cheat, you'll get an A.
Intelligent and entertaining lecturer who knows his course curriculum extremely well.
I loved his class and it was my easiest class out of all! He gives out five exams but drops one so if you do good on the first four and you're happy then you don't have to take the final exam! Also, there's online quizzes but they're easy 100s. I would honestly take him again!
Dr. Espinosa is a nice and funny guy, but I honestly just couldn't get into the class. His lectures weren't always structured and I never knew what I was supposed to be taking notes on. I'm easily distracted, and often found myself daydreaming. Instead of powerpoints, he just rambled and you had to determine what was important and what wasn't.
Dr. Espinoza is AWESOME! He is really funny and his class is so easy. You gotta look at the youtube videos he posts on Blackboard to study for his exams. The exams are so easy that you can easily get an A. He drops your lowest exam,
A great professor. Easy tests and quizzes. He knows that we r taking the class for credit so set papers easy. All MCQ questions and very easy one. All from his material on Blackboard.
this is the easiest A you'll ever get if you come to lecture and pay attention. drops lowest test at the end of the semester.
Easiest class I have taken. You only have 5 tests, and can drop 1. Gets off topic/spends time on irrelevant things sometimes but in general is a super nice guy and can be super funny. There is a final paper but its an easy group project. Subject matter is elementary/middle school level. Pay attention in class and you shouldn't really need to study.
Intelligent, funny and talented in the musical area. Easy A if you do quizzes, and take his notes (which are very few). Has a lot of resources online. Has a group project, which sucks, but it's not hard. You can study a few hours before the exam and get a high B, or an A. I would take again. Lectures kind of long if you're not into music.
Professor Espinosa is one of the most easygoing teachers I've ever had. His class is extremely easy (aside from the group project, which was bearable) and he does a great job of helping students learn.
Amazing professor. He's funny and explains the material great (coming someone with no music background/experience). His tests are easy and gives you outlines and lots of material to study. He assigns a group paper early on so start it early. No textbooks.
Gives very detailed lectures and goes deep into topics to make sure the students really know the material. What could be talked about in 5mins is stretched out into the whole class period, but he only wants everyone to understand the lesson. You don't have to show up to class since notes are online. Try a little harder on tests though.
Wonderful professor with passion to teach. He knows its's a mandatory creative arts class so keeps it easy. Attend the class regularly for an easy A. The group paper may sound difficult but if completed on time can get a 90 easily. Online quizzes have multiple attempts where only highest score is counted. Very Easy Class!!
One of the BEST professors I've ever had. Explains the material very well and is clear on what you need to know for the exams and assignments. Quizzes are easy and so are tests, especially if you attend class consistently. Group paper was the only problem but even that wasn't as bad and isn't graded harshly.
He is great! I made a B in the class but didn't apply myself. It is not difficult to get an A, but you need to show up and listen to the pieces of music he plays in lecture.
Great guy, great teacher, not a fan of studying music but best music teacher, very helpful, utilize his office hours it'll help.
Great professor and easy class. The hardest part about the course was the group project and even that wasn't bad. Keep up with the lecture and review your notes. Do that and you should be fine for his exams. Definitely would take again.
DONT TAKE HIM! All the comments before this one are LIES LIES LIES! He has a thick accent and treats his students as if we are music majors. Don't take him if you're looking for an easy elective. I'm so serious. Nice guy but makes the class too complicated. #MusicAppreciation
If you can't deal with this class this you either didn't try or are tone deaf. Super easy class, just study for the tests and you will make an A. His accent is not bad, you get used to it. Funny and friendly, always open to questions. Extra credit opportunities, sometimes have to watch documentaries outside of class. Group project that is easy also
Love him!! He's such a great and cool professor, Music isn't my major but he makes his class interesting! Easy class, no work but exams and online quizzes (easy). He can also be sarcastic but overall he's amazing and will answer your questions. Take this course if you have to you won't regret it.
Attendance is not mandatory up to some point. Class is not hard. Replaces one low test grade. Nice lectures. There is a group research paper that has to be turned in individually. Nice person, nice professor. Even though this is a music class you get to learn a lot about history and art as well because they go hand in hand. Several easy quizzes.
Dr. Espinosa is great! I honestly thought I would hate music appreciation but his lectures are entertaining and easy to understand. He gives you plenty of practice material before the exams and will go over anything you ask him to. The most stressful part of the class was the group project but even that was fine.
He makes the class interesting and provides everything you need so no textbook is necessary. As long as you keep up with the super easy quizzes and study a bit for the tests you'll get an easy A. The hardest thing was the group application paper but he doesn't grade tough. Probably the best teacher I've had this year! Don't cheat in his class!
Espinosa was a very entertaining and funny professor. Gives one group research paper that is not difficult. He does do quite a few quizzes, but they are all fairly easy. Tests are easy, and he only counts 4 out of 5 exams. Will sometimes take attendance, but it was so infrequent he did not even count it. Did not even try and managed to make a B.
He can get off topic but over all a good class and way better than the other music appreciation teacher.
He was super funny & really tried to grab our attention. 10 page group essay at the end of the semester so beware
Espinosa was a great professor. The only thing I personally didn't like was the group paper. It was just really hard to get together with a bunch of people I had never met, seeing as how to groups are assigned randomly. But overall, his lectures are good. As long as you put in the effort, this is an easy A.
Awesome professor! Just study for the test beforehand, do the super easy quizzes, and watch the echo if you need to. Only thing is the group project, hope that you get good members because he assigns your group. Plenty of extra credit but you have to drive to the concerts.. Other than that super easy class.
Class was nothing special, I sat on the front row and zoned-out during almost all the videos. He teaches what he wants you to know. I would say he is a pretty average. Overall. Meh.
Super easy class. One thing I personally didn't like was that in a room filled with almost 200 students, he randomly calls out people to answer his questions. So yes, participation does matter at some point. He never takes attendance, but let me tell you that relying solely on ECHO will not help. I almost went down a letter grade because of that.
Dr. Espinoza expects so much from a room full of 250 students and treats everyone very disrespectfully due to others being disrespectful to him! My advice, take this class somewhere else or take it with someone who doesn't demand so much! The group paper was the WORST! Our group ended up failing it at the end!
Super easy class. The quizzes are extremely easy (10% of your grade). The tests are very easy if you study the night before (80% of your grade). The only difficult part is the research paper. The reason is because you are in a random group with people that don't know what to do.
Professor Espinosa makes this course very easy. Study his PowerPoints for the exams (which are pretty easy), communicate with your group for the one essay he assigns, and youll be fine. Lectures can get a little boring, but dont start skipping class because he gives pop quizzes if a lot of people dont show up. Some concerts can be extra credit.
I learned so much in Dr. Espinosa's class and enjoyed everything. His lectures are very interesting and you can tell that he's incredibly passionate. There is a 10-page paper that you have to write with 10 other people, but he grades easily on it. He will give pop quizzes in class if not enough people show up. There are 5 tests, but he drops one.
A really good professor, especially if you just need a fine arts credit. He is very passionate and you will learn about music history. There are 5 test and if you do good in the first 4, the final one is not required. There is a major group project at the end which is made up of random students. If you can get everyone to do their parts. Easy A
Dr. Espinosas class was not hard at all. There is a lot of group activities and some in class stuff. I took this class for a creative arts credit and enjoyed it. Dr. Espinosa is kind and understanding, and loves what he does. Study a little bit and the tests are not hard. There is a big group paper as well. This was my least stressful class.
I absolutely loved this class! Dr. Espinosa is a real gem and made sure we learned about music and the history behind it. He does pop quizzes if a lot of students do not show up to class but those are rare. There is a group paper that you have to do, but you're able to grade your peers if they don't help. Test and quizzes on quizlet.
He was such a great prof! started his classes off by saying "Good morning my dear friends" Tests were really easy, I do have a music background so that could have helped.
Dr. Espinosa is an awesome professor. His lectures are only 10-20 minutes long and theyre really simple. You have 2-3 10 question quizzes due per week regarding the lecture. You have multiple attempts so its easy. Group project is easy. Take him, its an easy A! Ended with a 99.9% grade.
Not my favorite professor as far as personality, was not very empathetic or helpful. However, the class was so incredibly easy that in my opinion it evened out. Quizzes could be taken a total of 3 times, no tests or papers, and one group assignment.
For an intro class that most people are only taking because they need an art credit, it's fine. Group assignments aren't hard but they seem pointless. It's an easy A (I have musical background) and it was helpful that quizzes had multiple attempts, the professor just seemed to always be complaining about something in his emails/announcement.
The class itself was a complete breeze, highly recommend to take online. There were a couple quizzes every week with multiple attempts and a few group assignments that are not very time consuming. No final. He gives good feedback if you have questions but he does not empathize well and can be quite rude.
Take Dr. Espinosa. The class was online and super easy. No tests, just these weekly quizzes (not hard). A couple of group projects, like small written assignments and 1 group paper.
I took him online and it was so easy. No textbook, no tests, only quizzes and group projects. The group projects are easy if you split it up and everyone contributes. Make a GroupMe with your group, so everyone knows what to do. The quizzes are based on the video lectures and he gives you extra attempts to get it done. Easy 100 Take him!!!
Professor Espinosas class was the easiest class I will ever take, but he is my worst professor. Points were deducted from my group project final for a section I was not responsible for, bringing me from a B to a C. His course and grading is fully automated, but he is insecure and unwavering of any grades or deadlines. Course easy, prof. is cruel.
Prof. Espinosas video lectures were interesting and he captions them since his accent is a little difficult to understand. Homework was light but DO NOT miss a deadline. As long as you take the quizzes and participate in group assignments youll succeed. For group assignments I recommend a GroupMe text group and Google docs for contributions.
It was a fun experience since the class was so huge and the fact that he had his love for music & you could feel it through his teachings was even better. His lectures were entertaining & if you love music, I would recommend you take him because he's super cool and not uptight about a lot of things but don't skip class because you'll be clueless.
Is an easy A class if you're looking to fulfill an art credit. The course consist of quizzes that he allows you to take up to 3 times with the no final at the end of the semester. However, the course has a group project aspect to it which means. if you get a bad group your sort of screwed since you have to do a final paper together.
If you do the bare minimum in this class, you will succeed. This class does not require much effort. The only con was the group assignments. Everyone gets the same grade for group work, so if you tell the professor your concerns about someone not putting in much effort he will not listen. Theres one big group project at the end of the year.
The online course was really well designed and easy to understand! Easy to contact too. Assignments were clear and graded fairly, we had a combination of quizzes, some written pieces and some compulsory group projects. Would definitely take again and recommend the online course in particular!
Easy class and good instructor. You can tell he has a passion for this course. I would recommend this class and this professor. The only "hard" portion of this class is the Signature Assignment, and even then it's not too difficult.
This man LOVES group projects. You'll have at least 4 a semester but they're lowkey not hard at all if you have a good group. All you have to do is the quizzes (which are like 5-10 questions), discussions for your group projects, and a final paper (it's not that hard). Easy online class! :D
I took professor Sergio Espinosa at fall 2023. At first i was really scared because I never had any music class before. This class is an Easy A+, 70% of the grade is the quizzes, 20% group assignment, and 10% signature assignment. All quizzes and group assignments are easy. Easy to contact him, nice instructor and would take him again.
The class is pretty easy being online. "Homework" is just canvas quizzes and you can use google/the lecture slides. For the honors section we only had 2 group projects I think and the signature assignment was individual. For regular sections I think everything is group work except for the homework. 10/10 would recommend taking.
Online course that was incredibly easy to do for an A. Quizzes were each week that were easy to look up and complete. Only qualm with the course was how group projects were a significant part of the grade considering sometimes group members would not participate at all. However, the professor puts measures for the absent members in group projects.
Professor Espinosa's MUSI1300 is an easy A, with weekly quizzes and group projects. The class is a breeze, and Unstuckstudy can be a helpful study tool. Just don't slack off on group work!
