easy material, but he moves pretty fast, so it is good to attend class so you can keep up. most of the time he takes attendance, but doesn't mark people late. he's a good guy for putting up with all the crap the athletes give him. overall a patient, good teacher.

he is easy, just pay attention and come to class. If you have problems he will stay after class and help or go to his office hours. He will usually let class out early. he sets questions when he is done teaching and those who finish the questions are allowed to leave

Fantastic and helpful teacher. If you inquire further, he'll expand and even show you some higher level theory. He knows his stuff back and forth and is very clear and yet also casual and personable. Prove that you want to learn, do your MathXL, and he's got your back. I highly recommend.

In a math department full of terrible profs, Sergio is a blessing. He teaches extremely clearly, and engages with his students, unlike other math teachers that just seem to be teaching to a brick wall. Most importantly (for math) he makes the class bearable with his great sense of humor. By the end of the semester everyone in class loved him.

Best math teacher. Explains everything simple and very clear. A lot of homework which is on the online website but it prepares you really well for the class. Take this guy. I struggle in math but between his HW and his teaching style (very clear) I got an A. Was prepared for every test. Guy is awesome.

Good teacher, lectures were clear and homework was not graded. Tests were of inconsistent difficulty, however - one would be incredibly easy, with a large amount of the class acing it, and the next would be terribly difficult and too long.

Sergio is the best!! I found him very funny and very interesting. His teaching is clear and makes sure his class understands the content. He is also VERY helpful (sacrifices his time for review sessions for tests). For MTH105, it isnt recommended to skip classes because the course is 2 semesters of precalc in 1. So don't miss class for no reason!!

Highly recommend this professor. He gives you notes on the board that if you study them you will do well on the tests. Also you do NOT need a textbook but you'll need to buy an online code for homework. do the online quizzes not mandatory but will help you get an A!

If I was interested in the material, I would have enjoyed Hernandez much more. However, since I hate math, he really did not do anything at all to engage those of us who had a hard time paying attention. I would have enjoyed more class participation or group projects rather than just lectures. Also, please stop using MyMathLab. It's horrible.

Professor Hernandez is clear and efficient in teaching math. He is very organized and presents everything in a crystal clear manner. Though his tests were a bit tough, I would definitely take him again if given the chance!

Professor Hernandez since Day 1 emphasizes that if you ever need help to see him after class and not wait till finals are around the corner to see what extra credit you can do. He offers extra credit in all his exams and as long as you take notes "word for word" you will pass his class. He explains everything clearly. Best Math teacher I've had!!

By far the best math teacher I've ever had. He takes his time with the material and explains everything clearly. His tests are mostly comprised of the problems solved in class. He gives extra credit on the tests. Expect a lot of homework, but if you do it consistently it's bearable. He sometimes takes attendance. Definitely recommend him.

Speeds through lectures No patience

Great professor, would 100% take him for all of my math classes. He is clear, has review sessions, and is always willing to help. Math is hard but totally makes it tolerable. Attendance is not required, but please go because if you are failing, he will help you out.

You can tell he genuinely wants his students to do well. He gives a lot of hints during class as to what will be on the exam and what won't.

Prof Hernandez is very sweet and helpful. Always announces office hours and opportunities for students who need extra help. The lectures are pretty routine and he jumps right into it. Sometimes it can be hard to keep up, so if you find yourself lost seek help before it's too late.

He wants to make sure that the whole class gets what he is teaching. He is also hilarious while he is in class. Explains everything really well. Make sure you go to all the classes otherwise you won't be able to do the homework and will arrive kind of lost in the next class. Would definitely take him again. While attendance isn't necessarily mandatory, he will sometimes take it if there's a noticeable number of students absent. Easy homework on each section. I think he does a good job of explaining the problems and teaching the class. I'd definitely take him for any other math course.

Class isn't mandatory, but you should go. Topics are easy but his lectures really help you understand the concept. 3-4 tests, with a final. Online homework but no textbook.

This is the math class/teacher for people who aren't very good at math but need the credit. He's good at explaining problems and makes it as interesting enough. There's a lot of homework, but if you do the homework you'll do good on the test, I missed a lot of class and just did homework and I got an A-. He gives partial credit on test questions

I'm VERY bad at math but because of him, I made it through. I will definitely choose him to teach me math again given the opportunity. If you are not great at math I strongly recommend him. There is a lot of homework but just think of it as practice for the exams.

Sergi is the MAN. Literally so funny. He explains everything so well so if you are bad at math, especially precalc, definitely take him. He offers extra credit, curves the tests, and holds review sessions for 2 hours the night before where he basically tells you everything that is going to be on the test.

This was my second time taking MTH 101 I failed the first time. I am terrible at math, and would not have passed if it wasn't for him. He truly does his best to help you pass and the notes he gives in class are essential!!!! The homework is super intense but thats in every math class that uses my math lab. Strongly recommend.

Professor Hernandez assigns a lot of homework. If you do the homework you will do well on all the tests. He gives a good amount of tests that aren't that hard. He goes quickly through material but still very good at teaching. If you come to class you will get a good grade.

I'm awful at math and somehow got a B. He gives a lot homework but lots of time to do it, plus it's good practice for tests. Can move kind of fast in class because there's so much to cover, but he encourages everyone to come to office hours-I went a few times and he was super helpful. He's also funny, which makes math less painful.

I took MTH 107 and 108 with him. He is the only professor who helped me understand precal. The homework seems like a lot, but go to class & take good notes & you won't need to do all the problems. He makes himself available outside of class too if you need extra help. Passed all his exams with above 90%. The best! I wish he taught calculus :(

Great dude, very helpful and makes sure you understand the material. Has lots of time set aside just for asking questions. He's very happy and awake for an 8am course. Would definitely take again if he didn't have his class at 8am.

Professor Hernandez is the best prof Ive had at UM! Going into 105 I struggled with precalculus in high school, but did great in his class! He was great at explaining everything we needed to know and he provided great handouts with a perfect balance of explanations and examples. Must study hard for tests but it is not difficult to score well!

Professor Hernandez is great. He is very accessible every day of the week for office hours and also works the math lab. He is always there to help you and is always very patient with you while asking questions. Homework is much harder than exam, so it is great for prep. Very reasonable tests.

10/10 recommend for MTH 140. He will always make time for u, is very compassionate when you meet with him and actually wants to interact with you. If you pay attention during class and especially reviews, and print out and follow along to the class notes, you'll do well.

Professor Hernandez was an incredible calculus A teacher. Im taking him again for calculus B. You do have to purchase the online book to access the homework. He gives a 30 point extra credit assignment. He is always available outside of class and cares a lot about his students. Grades are off 4 tests (including final), homework, and 2-3 quizzes.

Calc isn't easy, class is extremely test heavy, he takes ages to grade exams but he's funny, nice, a bit snarky too. I get tutoring from him and Camner so I try and sometimes it shows in my grade. The hw online does not reflect exam Qs; feels like a waste. For exams he doesn't go over all review, only Qs u ask, not efficient at all. He tries tho?

I love him. Literally in his fan club. Take him if u can! Hes really chill and easy going, and he measured attendance by an attendance code given at the end of class. He grades fair enough and hes good at explaining. He can be kinda fast for some people but honestly just do the h/w and review and youll be golden

He did a really good job giving students extra credit and a lot of review opportunity before any exams. He's easy going and he made lectures interesting because he liked what he was teaching. The exams weren't bad as long as you pay attention during the lecture and do the reviews.

He teaches fast and there isnt always a lot of time to ask many questions DURING class but he has office hours and he is super helpful if you go to them. He holds reviews weekly and before exams which are very helpful. Do the reviews, you get a bonus and are similar to the tests. Def recommend over all the other professors!

Professor Hernandez is truly my favorite professor at the U. Having him my first semester of college was actually amazing. He is super helpful when you do not understand topics and hosts weekly review sessions for any questions you have. He offers extra credit every exam and honestly just overall one of the best professors I've had. Take his class.

Tests count for a lot but if you study and pay attention during class you will be fine. Very clear about office hours and offers extra credit just for studying the review sheets.

The guided notes from each unit are so helpful, and definitely do the extra credit reviews for each test, it ends up helping so much in the end. If you put the effort in to understand the information, you will do great.

Prof. Hernandez is an amazing professor, and I highly recommend him. I had him for MTH 140 & 141, and his lectures were easy to understand. Even though this is an early class, it was still fun & interesting. To pass, you still have to put in the work. Do all of the hw and extra credit. He really understands his students and wants them to succeed.

The only negative part of my experience in his class was the fact that I was in MTH105 and it is inherently double paced which makes the workload too much for some people. Sergio himself is a great professor. He genuinely cares about his students and will explain any question.

Flipped classroom model was honestly terrible. I can tell he's a great guy and teacher but learning at home can be difficult to keep up. Even he wasn't happy with the flipped classroom style of teaching. If you're on top of it you'll do fine. Quizzes every week + about 8 exams + final. It was a lot to cover in the short period.

Sergio is one of the best professors. He is funny, caring, and always ready to help. He had the challenging task of covering a lot of material, but he gave us great classes and very useful homework. Professor Hernandez has been the best math teacher I have ever had. If you think logically, and do the homework, you wont have any issues with this class. He also posts his lectures to zoom, which is very useful to help with studying. If I could rate higher than a 5 stars, I would.

Prof Hernandez is a great professor, he is very clear and gives good explanations. He gives practice problems to practice for tests. His tests are hard, but he gives partial credit. This class is not easy, and you will have to spend time outside class studying and reviewing.

Lots of math homework but only worth 60/1000 points, better to work on exam reviews to ace exams. Records all his lectures. Eager to teach. Fun personality. Exam reviews match exams in the way you solve them. I scored 62% on exam 1, 102% on exam 2, and 96% on midterm so far, improvement was due to exam review packets (lowest score replaced).

His class is tough in the sense that he covers a lot of material and sends a lot of hmw. He tries to help in any way he can with review sessions, study guides and lots of office hours. If I he taught other courses like calc 1 and 2 I would take them with him in a heartbeat, he is one of the best math teachers I've ever come across.

I came in with a poor foundation of algebra and he fixed that in one semester. Exams are hard but if you do the review and the homework you'll be fine. Takes attendance but it's not for a grade and he records all the lectures. Can be sassy at times which some of my friends didn't like but i thought he was super funny and kept class entertaining.

DO NOT MISS A CLASS !!! OR you will struggle to get back on track. Being on top of your work is super important or you will get lost. Recorded classes, however sometimes unclear and very rushed lessons. Though, that is just the class. If you don't have to take the course DON'T TAKE IT! Other than that he is a good teacher, and can be helpful.

2 semesters worth of math in 1 semester. Professor Hernandez interacts with the class and does all work on the board. It's easy to fall far behind in this class so do the homework and complete all the test practice problems and you will comprehend the material. Awesome professor and very important course for engineers who are behind in math.

Prof Hernandez is amazing! Very helpful in class and during office hours, and really wants you to succeed in math. He understands math is not everyone's strong suit and does his best to teach the material clearly and so that you can really master the concepts. Takes attendance and gives weekly quizzes which reflect the exam content fairly well too.

The best professor I have taken at UM. You have to put in the work to learn and I used office hours HEAVILY. But so far, I have not made lower than a 94% on an exam. There is partial credit, homeworks to help. It is a heavy class but if you put in the work you will be fine. He is also super helpful and wants you to succeed.

Goated professor. Screwed around too much for the first half of the semester and banged my grade for the semester but when you put the effort in you really do learn from him. Legend.

awesome guy. he's very witty which makes his classes easy to sit through, while others would be painfully boring. you can tell he cares about his students and their success, there is homework but it's mostly light and preps you well for tests.

really nice and super accessible outside of class hosting zoom sessions and recording our classes but the actual content is just hard. unless you were goated at pre calc in hs i wouldn't take this class. even so for me it was not like hs pre calc at all. if you have to take, he's a caring guy but i would beware of the class itself.
