Very uncertain how to handle a big class. Momotone. Too academic to relate to and teach undergraduate students. Should have spent more time in personal selling rather than pursuing PhD. He would be more effective. Poor handle on technology
This class was a joke. He is boring as hell in his lectures, after one lecture you'll never want to go back. The only good thing is you can pull of a B without doing much work, just make sure you have a good group.
In this course, its all about having a good group, smart members that will pull their own weight, just start early on the essay and do the cases (8) and then you dont have to worry about the course, the longer you hold off the lower your mark will be, prof has very high expectations, only he can do, not helpful or clear at all

How should I start? He TERRIBLE, AWFUL, and BORING. It's impossible to sit through his lecture no matter how dedicated you are. And to top it off, he's rude, don't bother going to his office.
this is the worst teacher ever! cant understand a word he says... gives 45 minutes to write and exam. take the class with someone else teaching for your own good!
Shouldn't have been hired by the school, and he should go back to his country where people can understand him. Gave an impossible amount of time to do a midterm that required a lot of calculations, and he had to bell-curve it because the class average way well below failure. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS.

I can't understand a single word he says, he's sooo boring, and he gives so little time for tests! The material tested is nothing like the homework!
It is very hard to understand what he is saying (you must sit in the first three rows or you can not even hear him). IF he answers questions they are not clear and you are more confused than before you asked. He is rude to students. His tests are nothing like what was covered in class or even in the text book.
He is allright. He gives good grades, too. Don't ever try to be rude to him, that's a sure way to get in trouble. Ask all your questions on the black board.

His lectures are useless, and the tests are really hard. Questions are totally different than hwk problems and he gives very little time for test.. he sux!
helpful. tests are ok but not too easy. he is very easy grader, though. stay away from losers when you make a group for group project
He is a pretty cool dude I suppose, hard to understand cuz of that thick accent though, and he talks quietly. He changed the case structure from a case every week to only 2 cases for the whole semester, so thumbs up. Tests are almost open book, you just have to write everything by hand. If you dont do well you know whos fault it is.
Professor Rakhmayil is a cool guy, he wants you to pass and doesn't want you to fail, as mentioned his accent and talking quietly can hinder your ability to listen and understand in class, but overall a good prof as he is relatively fair and if you do poorly it will be due to your own fault and not his.
Not a fan of Sergiy.....mumbles, speaks softly, and has a thick accent.....still better than Clark......all you need to do is read the text, do some of the homework, and study his slides.....I aced both midterms.....I got an easy A+ overall
Very bad at explaining things. Mumbles when he speaks. Not helpful at all. When asked a question, tells you to go figure it out yourself, which defeats the purpose of having a professor at all.
Find a better prof if you can. He will asnswer you question by asking you more questions. Looks nice, but mean actually.
Student question: "Sir, what does XYZ mean?" Rakhmayil's response: "What do you think XYZ means?" *blank, confused stare on students' faces* And the question NEVER gets answered. Umm, okk........ what do you get paid for, Mr. Rakhmayil?
One of the best professors at Ryerson. His tests fairly reflect the course material.
He's a good prof. has trouble maintaining control of the students. Overall knows his stuff. Just shut up and listen. PPL complain about not understanding him bcus they dont SHUT UP. He does want u to do good and almost all material on the exams are covered in class. So GO.
Professor Rakhmayil is really great.He provides really thorough lecture notes and he is very clear about the expectations on the exams and assignment.People like to complain which is why there are a few negative comments.The prof is supper nice and wants his students to do well.If you work at it and go to all the lectures,you can easily do well.
Course is easy, ended with an A but prof is terrible. Extremely arrogant, especially on discussion board help, which is ironic because hes the first prof that ive had that seems to be nervous when hes teaching. He has a pretty heavy accent, his attempt at jokes usually end up as horrendous failures, his stories are completely useless and pointless.
He tests problems not done in class, have a hard time following his explanations for the ones covered.

Sergiy is the MAN! If you attend his classes and you are diligent it is highly unlikely that you will fail or fail to get an A for that matter. And do not forget to take classes with his buddy Blinder too ;)
Don't bother going to class. Just study by yourself, and do the questions at the end of the chapter. All of them, because he tests out of a test bank and the questions are HARD. Not all professors in university are good at teaching, rely on self-study for this one.
Good proffesor overall. Teaches from very clear powerpoint slides. If you know how to do the slides and you have been reading the book you should get an A.
No need to go to class, it is useless. You have to study from the book and the slides will be posted (with missing words!). Do all the problems at the end of the chapter and the tests online and you'll be ok for the test. Not hard to get an A.
I thought he was a great prof until the exam.I was getting a 100% in class walking into the exam and the exam was the hardest exam of my life.Attend lectures because he gives out bonus marks and thats how I got a 100% b4 final.He's NOT helpful at all.Rely on the text and make sure to do both lecture slide questions and text questions.

The prof was nice, he has very good powerpoints and examples, but the summer course was so poorly organized due to the 'centralization' of the assignments from the department and TAs and not letting him control how to run the course.. his midterm was fair, but he's didn't write the final. If you do the HW and study his slides, you'll pass.
i think i should've taken Maureen for this course, could've done alot better. the course is not hard but the prof makes it hard
Not the kind of prof. I enjoy having. Abuse of technology (doesn't go through a single question in class that isn't in power point). Online "exams" where there are fewer marks than the question is worth. Seems like he just tries to make his job easy while making students job more difficult than it has to be.
If somebody did not pass this course it means they have done absolutely no work. While prof. accent is a bit thick (so is a lot of students') he is not hard to understand and ALWAYS available for extra help. It is a 4th year finance course so it is expected that students do have some knowledge of finance.
He is not bad. BUT he was never availalble during his office hours. I could only talk to him after the class. Once i waited for over 3 hours but he didn't show up( This is a upper lever course- be prepared to work hard. going to class is VIRTUALLY useless. the keyword is 'virtually' because there were a couple of test questions based on his lecture and not found in the book (lecture based on black-scholes). otherwise, you really don't need to go to class as long you read the book and do all the homework questions. pretty straightforward class.

I showed up to 3 of his classes where 1 was the midterm and ended up with an A. Lectures are useless, just read the textbook and do all questions. Final was kinda tricky but fair. A lot of students were compaining about how the final was hard...PPL its a 3rd/4th year finance class, wat do u expect! Just do ur work and guarenteed with atleast a A-
Definitely the worst professor I ever have in Ryerson. The guy is a jerk. If you want to pass his course you will definitely need a tutor. As he always say, study at your own risk. His slides are incomplete, but he goes too fast that you cant copy anything. His class is no different from distant internet education.

I would have rated him completely useless but his Powerpoint notes did contain alot of information, that is if you can write fast enough to get the additional notes that go with it and IF you can understand what he's said to begin with. You are required to come to class in order to fill in the blanks from his slides though he is painfully inarticulate. Lectures are theory, while exams are quantitative. Midterms incredibly easy, final ridiculous. No matter what, you will not be prepared its length and difficulty. Unapproachable, mean guy. Coming from a 4.0 GPA student.

Super Prof! Really knows the subject and is ready to help anytime. Attend his classes and you will really learn Finance. Don't listen to bad remarks as I took 3 courses with him and got superb marks. The key is do not expect any of his courses to be "easy" ; material is hard but he manages to keep as hands on as possible. Best Fin Prof.

Not a great prof. Very tough to even understand what he is saying. If you ask him a question in the class he can NEVER answer it. Can be very rude to the people that do ask the questions. Mid Term was the easiest out of all profs tho, final much harder(since he didnt write it) I wouldnt go out of my way to avoid him but not a top choice.

Worst finance prof at the University. He has several text boxes on all his slides so you spend the whole lecture copying it all. While he hides behind the stand for the whole lecture talking mono-tone. Mid term is relatively easy. Exam is very hard because of his extremely poor teaching.

Easiest midterms (if you studied). Final was impossible. I don't even know where half those Q's came from. This guy is a complete goof and should not be teacher. He stands in front of the class, not teaching, but cracking stupid jokes and making you fill out useless slides. He is no help to students. From a student who had an A+ b4 the final.
I have to agree with the last few posts in regards to FIN710. Midterms were easy but the final was retarded. He never taught us ANYTHING close to what appeared on the final. Sure the distribution was mostly at the top but thats because most of them had the test bank...Great job Sergiy, way to mess with our GPAs.
horrible... final class average is below 50% :( i studied hard, harder than for any course, but ended up guessing everything. Coming from a B average student. Learned a black hole in his class. EXTREMELY unfair, unless you've got the test bank... which i know couple of ppl had

Essentially you have to study from the book, he says this, but people still dont get it. His lectures are somewhat usefull, overall good course, second midterm and final require good preparation, ryerson has many stupid students and the majority of these comments come from them so dont be fooled by them, do the work and you'll be fine.
Third time I've had him. He's a nice guy, but can't teach to save his life. Midterms are a joke, but be prepared to be raped on the final. I had the testbank AND solution manual, but these didn't help at all - his questions were literally impossible, page-long monsters. Even after bell-curving, the final class average was a fail.
Compared to other prof's his test are easier. However his accent is terrible hard to follow. Apart from that he is the better of the other teachers, the course itself is terrible though beyond hard.
He is not a bad prof. What I hated most was that his slides are incomplete. Instead of listening to his lecture I was too busy completing the slides. His midterms are easy. The final is very tricky but do-able. I loved the course. However, I taught most of it to myself.
Ridiculously easy midterms but the final exam had some very tricky material and a failing class average. The prof leaves parts of his slides blank that you have to fill out in class, which is really annoying. I never went to class and got a B+ so going to class wasn't necessary. If you can teach yourself from the textbook you can get a good grade.
Went to most of the classes and didn't realize how useless they were. Speaks in a monotone and will put you to sleep. He shows little interest in teaching an introductory finance course. Speaks highly of his advanced courses, however. This class is easy however if you can teach yourself and use the text effectively. Easy midterm, Hard Final.
Quite possibly one of the worst profs out there. Instead of answering simple questions on the discussion board or in class, he poses a question such as "Well why don't you ask your classmates?" The midterms are straight forward and come from the class notes. Haven't written the final yet, but I know it's going to be pretty much impossible. AVOID!!!

Useless prof. I can't believe he's teaching at the MBA level. I did well in this course (A) but I had to teach the entire course to myself through the textbook. He doesn't use the same steps/strategy/equations as the text. He also refuses to answer certain questions if they are from previous lectures, stating that "you have to know that by now".
Pretty easy course. His lectures were useless BUT the bulk of his mid term questions were from his slides and class examples so PAY ATTENTION! He's a nice guy, will help you if you're confused. His testings are so easy! If you're a self learner and hard working then take his classes, cause then you can ace the mid terms no doubt!

1st mt was ok. 2nd was tricky and included a Q that we never went over or is in the book. final was worth %50 for 20MC (no theory)! it was impossible. i did all the questions from the book ddnt really help. his office hours (if you get to him) are useless and so is he. went to class cause of his stupid ppt that ddnt help with tests. avoid him
Professor is a prankster. He says studying back of the chapter problems will help. I studied all of the material for the final. Not really, just for 3 of the questions, which were identical; at best 3/4 were related to the text. He got 1/4 of the questions from different material than was in the Erhardht book that was issued, he knows it.
BADDD... BUT WAIT. He taught everyone in the class how to do 90% of the work on the calculator none of the other finance professors did that for their class so, doesn't excuse his lack of teaching but it does help him out. TAKE HIM, BRING HIS PPT SLIDES TO CLASS, DO BACK OF THE CHP EXERCISES AND YOU'LL GET OVER 70% IN THE CLASS.

I was lucky to get an A-. 1rst midterm was easy as it was from the notes, 2nd midterm was tough as it was not from the notes. exam was brutal as the material did not reflect the notes or textbook. and he did not answer my emails the last week before the exam... not helpful nor friendly.
Amazes me how Ryerson lets this guy keep teaching. Honestly, this teacher was OK. Didn't do so great but a lot of it is do with the fact that he does not go into detail, has an accent, and is quite concerned with the buzzing noise on the sound system in the trsm building due to cell phones being on. Try another prof cause this one is not going to make fin300 any easier for you
I am a good student. I get good grades, and professors still remember me from my first year. This prof is the worst professor I have ever had. He isn't clear,helpful, & he is RUDE. I went to ask a question in regards to the class project and he asked me if i could read. He repeated that twice. What prof makes a student feel dumb ...i have a 3.5 GPA
Disregard the guy below with the "3.5 GPA" cause the courses I've taken with Sergiy were all easy and I turned out with A's. For 621, his testing is very fair, just study the textbook and his pp examples cause that's all tested. Last note about the "3.5 GPA" guy, there's no such course as FIN691?? I dunno what he/she is talking bout??
Sergiy is a good proff i had him for 4 finance courses, FIN810 though happens to be insane. Go to class prepared and everything will make sense. Dont complain about his accent because Ryerson has a LOT more proffs with much worse english skills.... Fair guy, going to class is the best way to do well
good thing is unlimited amounts of chi sheets and midterms are super easy for finance majors. final exam however, you better know your stuff. at the end of the day, you dun really learn much from this class taught by him despite most students achieving above B. i recommend another prof.
If you want to learn regardless of grade, don't take his courses. If you really interested in corporate finance, read the book. I had high hopes enrolled to 810 to review my 401 as well as learning adv materials. He just came in and shattered all of my expectations from the course in the very first lecture.
An easy final. I suck at finance so I was major scared. Lyryx labs helped build the concepts, and prep for finals. Also the daily journal entry is a useful exercise to keep abreast with world economic affairs. This guy put in a lot of effort to make sure we learn something, I wish he could make classes more interesting somehow.
I've taken 3 classes with Sergiy. His assignments and tests are so easy! If you read the book for the theory and study the quantitative examples in his slides you'll do fine. Looking forward to FIN810 next semester!
This class is all about applying what you learned in FIN710 to cases. If you took FIN631 and FIN710, solving the weekly Excel cases is a breeze! The key to doing well on the tests is reading the case very thoroughly and picking out the right information to use. Glad I took this class. Great course overall!

Taking FIN510 with prof currently. Difficult to learn concepts/theories from. Not punctual to class. Wastes valuable lecture time by showing youtube clips irrelevant at start of day's lecture. Incomprehensible when teaching concepts in-depth. Inability in giving good mid-term reviews. Recommendation: Don't spend tuition funds on this prof!
Currently have him for FIN510, just finished the mid-term. The test was really fair and he made it easy to do well. Attendance is mandatory because we do clicker questions in class (for marks). So far he's great, but let's hope the final is fair like the mid term.
Sergiy is very knowgeable but sadly you're not going to understand him half the time. You could get on his wrong side if you ask tricky questions and he may get offended thinking you're mocking him. You leave the final thinking you crapped and then you receive a sweet surprise, he must put everybody on a cruve or something. Love him for that.
Very knowledgable but he can't really express himself and gets frustrated. Makes you take notes entire class so you're too buy to ask questions. He could get mad if you ask deep questions assuming you're mocking him. DON'T take too many notes to the final, I wrote two books but couldnt really use them. Generous scorer, you'll find him.

I don't know why people are giving this guy crap. It's a University. Sergiy is straight forward, no BS on his exams. Everything in the lectures is on the tests. He gives you a HUGE opportunity to get a good mark through clickers and pre-tests. Mid terms weigh only 15%, so even better. Personally, he's p good. Sense of humor too.

unfortunately, i think he is the only professor who teaches this course. extremely unhelpful when it comes to answering questions; always redirects questions to his TA. has an incredibly thick accent, and assumes all students are in finance, so he uses a lot of finance lingo. always do your weekly readings!! final is almost impossible to get an A.
Taking his class in summer right now. He literally gives you zero time to process information. All you can do is copy slide info. Any practice questions he gives you in class are useless because you never get a chance to solve them yourself. He gives you the answers immediately. As such you don't have meaningful questions till you get home. AVOID

I would say his midterm was pretty straightforward, the clickers and prequizzes help boost your mark just the final was pretty tough just put in the work and you'll be fine

Reads off of the slides and never fully explains what ANYTHING means. When asked for more extensive help, he just says "do the back of the chapter problems and you'll be fine". Thinks he is hilarious, but he isn't. Also comes into class late most of the time.
Overall, you learn absolutely nothing from him in-class. You are better off teaching yourself the material through back of chapter problems. He has a thick accent, does not post all the material from the slides online, and rushes through slides.. Not to ideal for a finance class when understanding the numbers is everything.
Doing lyryx and getting higher than a 90% will definitely make you pass. the midterm was very easy since he used questions from lyryx and the textbook. the final was impossible, but thats how all fin300 finals are... He barely taught and he only taught the basics, so the hard stuff was for you to learn on your own. I would suggest another prof.
worst prof in saf program!! reads off ppt, no directions on project, horrible tests! low 50s class avg for midterm, lowest ive seen at ryerson! when you ask him sth, he says "do what you want" and "do back of chapter exercise". but they dont even help! ask him to wait for a min to input clicker ans, he closes it and says "congratulations"...
For Mergers & Acquisitions, we were working on case studies nearly every week and answering questions via iClicker. The pre-tests and iClicker marks were easy grade boosters, and the midterm and final were pretty fair. There was a group project that was interesting to learn about mergers. Sergiy is a no-BS kind of guy but means well.
Most people say that he isn't the best prof because of his heavy accent. But the accent really is not so bad. He is very clear in class, he will teach the concepts and provide at least two examples for each, and always more than happy to answer questions. The midterm and final are super straightforward.

Most ppl don't have textbook until atleast the 2nd week so he's setting you up to fail. 2nd class: ch 4 so better get right into it. He expects his students to write down the lecture notes while he sits back and watches them. If a student tries to take a picture of the lecture slide, they will be pointed out and he will make an example out of them. He took a picture of a classmate who tried to take a picture of his lecture. His teaching method is not effective.
Unfortunately there are no other professors that teache FIN621 so you are stuck with Sergiy. Lectures are extremely boring. He posts answers for you to copy down and doesn't explain how to solve anything. Midterm was fair but exam was hard. Study in advance or you will fail.
Terrible prof, speeds through slides and then looks at the class saying "whats unclear" as if you're all idiots for not understanding his thick Russian accent. Barely explains concepts, focuses more on calling out students than making sure a concept is thoroughly explained. If you have the option to avoid his class, do so as if it were the plague.
Lecture slides go by too fast and there isn't enough time for students to process the information. If you ask him about a previous slide, he will not help you and tells you to read the textbook. Doesn't teach but simply read off the powerpoint.
It's not even this guy's accent that is the problem; He is disrespectful to students when they ask him to go back a slide or to repeat what he said. Instead of making students feel bad for not knowing something or for asking questions, he should focus on the way he teaches and should work on being more enthusiastic about the course.

To be honest with you, Sergiy Rakhmayil, is the worst professor ever. He does not care about his students or their needs. If you do not participate in his class questions, he will not give you the solutions. He reads quickly off his powerpoints slides, does not go back to previous slides taught and makes it very hard for the student to learn.

he spent more time asking the class if the content was clear rather than actually teaching us. no seriously he would ask Was it clear?. whats unclear? like 30 times a class. then spend 2 seconds on a questions. lol but whatever its possible to pass thanks to lyrxs also he teaches us how to use the calc. try for another prof if you can.

No. Just No. Literally learnt nothing useful from him except calculator steps and even then he himself is confused by the steps. You are putting yourself at a disadvantage compared to other profs and when FIN401 comes you will be screwed.
I am not a fan of Sergiy, I feel like he just rushed through material and never really explained anything. Is also extremely rude, it seems like he just shows up to get paid and doesn't care about anything aside from that. The accent isn't bad you can clearly understand him but I had a miserable time in his class

Professor Rakhmayil provides well-organized lectures and explains in plain English the concepts that are hard to grasp when you are reading the text-book. Although he doesn't allow taking pictures or record him; he gives enough time to copy what's on the board and gives enough back-up material, which is helpful. You can use your own cheat-sheet
Course is dense with 20 chapters. Read textbook for pretests (use command+F). All images/charts in powerpoints are THEORY Q's on exams. DON'T DO PROBLEMS IN TEXTBOOK, Labs are EXACTLY word4word test questions, easy 50% on tests. Use lab Help tab to make formula sheet. Final had 8 chapters not 20! Drop 3 lowest labs/pretests. No Lufthansa on exams!!
An A+ is very achievable in Sergiy's class as long as you don't fall behind. Sergiy is NOT a good teacher in any capacity, so it is up to you to learn the material. Memorize lab/textbook/lecture questions. If you work hard you will be rewarded, unfortunately most Ryerson students simply don't put in the work...
Amazing Prof, tested us on what was taught in class, takes the time to go through the calculations and calculator steps, much better than any other Acc or Fin prof i have had at Ryerson
The most straight forward prof for FIN300. Goes through every question step by step on calculator and gives the exact same examples in class as what you'll see on the midterm.
Pretty good professor, can seem a little intimidating at first but he's quite a funny guy. Midterm was straightforward, exam was definitely more difficult than expected. Make sure to study practice questions from the lectures and textbook. Also don't take photos of the lecture slides or he'll call you out.

He is a very knowledgable prof when it comes to personal financing, applies real-world examples & advice to the course which makes it easier to understand the content. The course involved a lot of knowledge-based material compared to financial calculations, and the math was easy. Midterm (20%) and Final (50%) were 20 m/c each, can be a hit or miss.
I like this prof. He's clear with what he expects of students, lectures are useful and I enjoy his teaching style. Go to class and do the i-clicker q's because every mark counts. The only thing I don't like is his final is only 20 questions which doesn't make sense for an exam worth 50%. Was getting an A in the class but bombed the final
Must go to all classes for iclickers and do modules online weekly. Midterm was very fair, however, you should expect that 10/20 questions will be theory questions and not calculations, use test banks. Calc questions pulled out from modules. Soon to write final exam, prof mentioned that difficult will be same as midterm. Mean guy but O.K. for tests.
He was the only prof teaching FIN 621 this semester so unfortunately most of us were stuck and had no choice. Midterm and final both had only 20 questions - both extremely difficult. 54% class average for the final and he refuses to bellcurve because a couple students, out of a couple hundred, got 90%. Real GPA killer. AVOID if you can.
The clickers + labs will save your grade, even though the labs are really long and tedious. 20 questions on exam and 20 on midterm. Midterm was easier. Exam was hard with a 54% class average. But he wont bellcurve it because a few students got A. Lab questions are on the exam and theory portion is from test banks 50/50. Avoid him if you can.
Sergiy is one of the rudest professors I have ever met... not only was he constantly unclear of the material, but he also was super hard to interact with as he thinks he is god. Being rude, condescending to individuals doesn't compensate a mediocre-level teaching ability for an easy undergrad course. And working on communication skill is the part of the faculty job (such as English vocabulary). I wonder how many students in RU actually fill out evaluations forms for faculties.
By far one of the worst profs at Ryerson, lectures are incredibly boring because he is monotone and goes through the course material very slowly. If you have a question about the material there is a good chance that he won't be able to answer it. Definitely read the textbook and do those practice problems because it's the only way you'll pass.
The grading criteria makes it easy to get a good grade if you put in the work. The lectures can be dry and he is kinda intimidating but is also a funny guy. Yes, This course has annoyingly long homework labs, a clicker quiz every class, but the exams are not that hard (avg was a 70% on our midterm.) It's dry but doable. Sergiy wasn't that accessible or nice, but he was the first to shut things down when COVID happened. and he's a funny guy! Haters gonna hate.

He either makes fun of you for asking a dumb question or accuses you of not reading the material! I never had a worse professor! I never had a professor treat students as badly as Sergiy does. He rudely told students to drop his course without a care if they ever had a legitimate issue with scheduling and refused to accommodate. He couldn't be bothered with questions and mocked students. Really not a nice person, let alone a professor. Avoid him at all costs.
He is honestly a blessing. Works hard, always tries his best and truly cares for his students. His lectures may be a bit dry, but he really goes over the concepts quite well. He makes sure that his students are prepared for the midterm and finals. Overall above average prof. Not sure why he's rated so low.
Good Prof, accent does not bother the lectures. Easy midterm, no direction on group project tho. Seems as if the final group project was taken from a M&A class.
This class is so easy, as long as you put in some effort you should be able to leave with a good grade. Professor is very flexible when it comes to exam periods and tests are very fair. Easy class

I'm not strong in finance but this was by far one of the easiest finance courses I've ever had to take! If you complete the course readings before coming to class as expected, it should be easy to follow along in class. Test questions are mainly straightforward. He is a solid professor for FIN621, he is a fair grader and wants to make sure you understand the material. NOTE: TESTS ARE A LOT EASIER THEN HOMEWORK AND PRACTICE EXAMS! the best thing about his teaching is that he makes the exams very easy, mostly just term definitions and some easy math questions nothing like the weekly labs you have to do :)
This professor is extremely unprofessional and is very rude to a lot of the students. Aside from being a professor, I just really hate his personality and would not want to associate myself with people like him. In his class, I just did my own studies to do well as his lectures are useless. Not sure how he became a professor in first place.
Easiest 4.33 class I have taken. He gives out bonus assignment worth an extra 20% which is a stock tracking assignment and just lab question which are really easy to do.
Dont really rely on reviews. Sergiy is very accommodating, not my first class with him. He Is a nice guy, likes to crack a few jokes, but be aware that you have to study. He drops few lowest quizes and hw marks. He really wants you to do good in this class. Tests are somewhat difficult, but still manageable!
These negative reviews are from snowflakes that can't take a joke or follow the rules. Sergiy is amazing, but just because he is amazing, it doesn't mean he is going to bend the rules for you. He gives us more than enough time to complete the in class participation tasks, and yet people complain. Follow the rules, study hard, and you'll get an A+
It's online class Take attendance but can be allocate to your test. About 50% grade is homework which can easily get 100% Offering 20 pts bonus. 10 pts is stock trading simulation. Another 10 for practice exams that also able to get 100% Test are homework based. Review and ace.
best fin prof. if you do the labs, quizzes, bonus questions and study for the midterm & final you're guaranteed an A at minimum. midterm and final are based on the labs and bonus questions. taking a course with him again next sem hes a gem.

Sergiy is one of the best fin profs at Ryerson. He is straightforward, responds asap to emails, is very caring and understanding of his students. A majority of the work is easy marks, and if you study/practice all the questions that he gives for marks, you can easily get an A in midterm and the final.
Studying the textbook on your own is a joy in comparison to interacting with this prof
Not the best prof. Unfortunately he was the only one who was teaching this course when I was taking it. He refused many times to clarify questions and did not repeat himself because we have the slides. Youre better off teaching yourself, but you have to attend every class for the quiz.

The labs for this class are unbearably long will take up a good chunk of your sunday. 621 is quite useless imo its all memorizing stuff the vast majority of the class will never use again. Tests were easy, they were just homework questions done in labs & bonus labs. Class would be 10x more annoying in person... so gl if ur in person for 621...
Prof is really flexible with your schedules and exams are exactly what you learn from the weekly assignments.

Prof Sergiy Rakhmayil is one of my favourite professors at Ryerson after taking 4 Continuing Education courses. If you complete all the assignments until you get full marks, the exam has very similar Qs. Take the time the understand assignments as the exam will use the same formulas/strategies. Best teaching style! TY Prof!
To be honest, he is one of the most understanding professors I have ever had at Ryerson. The course is so hard, but he assists us by providing opportunities in class and providing advice if we respond incorrectly. Allows for additional time to study for both midterms and finals (multiple choice). Amazing prof.
Would definitely recommend this prof especially if you're not super strong in finance! He really sets up the course for you to do well. I finished with a great mark because of the grading criteria - easy participation marks during lectures, weekly labs, fair midterm/exam, and even a bonus assignment for extra marks.
Nice guy. Somewhat hard to understand and his lectures drag on for the entire 3 hours but lets u choose break length. If u ask for extra clarification he will tell u to watch his lecture videos. Easy class and grading is clutch, drops 3 labs and 6 in-class catalytic quizzes. Read chapters before class so u know how to do the in-class quizzes.

This was one of the best finance classes I've had. The grading criteria is clear and fair, the prof has bonus assignments that really help with grades. This class was fairly simple- just stay on top of weekly labs and attend class for the in-class questions that contribute toward your grades, assignments and you'll get an A.
This course is straightforward, just stay on top of your weekly labs, do the weekly in-class quizzes (the formulas are always on the current lecture slides) and you'll get at LEAST an A-. The prof also gave an optional bonus assignment worth 10% which had over 100 questions, if you just do the ones corresponding with your labs then it's free.
One of the only profs I have seen who is trying to improve and cares about students' feedback. Taking him again and he is going even further - he is so caring in that he sends us reminder emails and wants us to do well. He gives status updates and is not intentionally intimidating/rude like other profs. Please look into teaching accounting as well!
Great professor. Very clearly outlines how to succeed in the course from the very beginning. If you follow his instruction, you will do very well in his course and learn a lot about corporate finance.
If you do well in FIN300, you probably have basic knowledge for this class and will do well if you just put a little effort in watching his lecturing videos. He also gives projects for extra credit (10%) which one of them was to help you invest in fake stocks. Highly recommend!

Honestly, he can make the work as boring but he did give good grades to students. There were quizzes from the Pearson text where you could receive marks. The grade breakdown was fair and most marks came from the etext which was a relief as the tests and exams were not weighted as much. Overall a solid professor, thinking of taking him again.
He gives you so much work, it's absurd. Just reads the slides and send you off to do Mylabs, case studies, weekly quizzes. Pretty boring class, wouldn't take it again and don't recommend anyone actually interested in Finance taking it with him.
His exams are fair. if u study and do the pearsons it will go good. The prof tries to engage his class and the inclass quizzes really help to understand the concepts. Highly recommend.
Sergiy is a super cool professor! His lectures are good and grading is good as well! One of the easiest finance courses i've ever done!
His catchphrase for a low amount of correct answers to the in-class questions (which are incredibly confusing sometimes) is literally "I recommend you try harder" and it happens. every. class. Got a bad grade on the open book midterm because I was constantly second guessing myself thanks to those in-class questions. Course was useful. Prof was not.
He doesn't actually "teach" anything, he just puts questions up on the screen for 15-20 minutes and sits there saying "there's a lot of wrong answers", without actually engaging with the class at all or talking about why people aren't understanding it. It's an easy class but he's a terrible prof.
He gives students lots of opportunities to boost their grade with multiple optional bonus assignments. Tests are fair and he cares about his students. 10/10

Both exams were more than fair and based on things that we actually covered in the course. Prof is great - doesn't overcomplicate things and cares that we do well. Professor Sergiy cares about his students. The class consisted of: Midterm, Final, Pearson Homework, In class quizzes, 4 Group cases, 10% Bonus Pearson homework. lowest quiz & case marks are dropped. The midterm and final are pearson based, DO THE PEARSON HOMEWORK QUESTIONS, and you will get an A+ in the exams since they are open book.
I think that Sergiy is an understanding prof, if you tell him your situation he will respect it and find ways to accommodate. The marking scheme is fair he gives chances to complete their assignments and bonus. I would take this prof again taking asynchronous was smooth. I would recommend this prof to other students if you are into learning finance

This professor is not for the faint of heart. Is the class you really have to work in and do the course work. There is an opportunity to get 10% extra marks when you do the Bonusquestions but the Bonus questions are very time consuming. This course isn't just about math theory matters as well.
The course itself is fairly simple in terms of the content it covers. What really bugged me is how at times the its hard to understand him during lectures and he is fairly rude at times to his students as well. He also one of the only profs that i had that is super strict on taking pictures of his slides. Overall I would avoid.
The main problem with this prof is that he thinks everyone is on the same level of understanding as him when it comes to this subject. he doesn't explain properly. He just reads from the slides and expects you to understand. He gives zero productive feedback to students. Learn as you go. You can't avoid him so just show up to class and do the bonus
The prof had an orientation session for an asynchronous course (already going above and beyond other professors) and posted prerecorded lectures to help students. The course is challenging (if you are not a finance/economics major), but he's extremely organized and has all the materials for you to study from right away. And he's fast with emails.
Not sure why there are so many 1 star rating for this professor? He was fair, and from what I witnessed always treated the students with respect, even if they were being dumb and unreasonable. I appreciated how organized he was and he offered lots of great tips to help you succeed in the course. If you do the work you will do great in his class
We were graded on weekly labs + study modules, a midterm, and a final exam. Exams were quite tough as they covered a lot of material but you can make up some marks with extra credit. Dr. Rakhmayil was very kind and patient with explaining questions and answered all emails quickly. Lots of useful life skills taught in this course by a caring prof.
he was a delightful prof! yes, the content is difficult but he was very accommodating with due dates for labs and responded very fast to questions and was very clear with his answers. the midterm was a lot easier than the final. the studying is the students' responsibility but he was always available for help. overall I would def recommend him!
Very nice guy. Gave everyone an extra day for hw labs to boost marks (or just to pass). Midterm was exactly like practice questions. Final wasn't hard if you understand the concepts. Use his pointers, and you will pass. Do the MyLabs because they're free marks. Study harder for the midterm because people had more trouble with the final. Good luck!

He is a nice person. There are no lectures, so you need to study on your own, but that's how the university set up the course. He extended deadlines for the homework. The midterm and final test questions were similar to the homework, so there were no surprises. He does his best to help you receive a good grade. I recommend his courses.
Amazing Professor! I took this course only for him. This class is easy if you put in the work. Every class there is a Catalytics Quiz for participation and you are allowed to discuss the answers. He is caring enough to have an online zoom link so you dont have to go to class. Tests are worth a lot. Do the bonus assignments. Easy A+.
Professor Rakhmayil is very knowledgeable. His lectures include in-class graded MCQ where students can collaborate to work on the answers. It is an easy 10 percent. You can also attend his lectures from Zoom. His course has a lot of bonus assignments to increase your grade in the course. Overall, the content is good and well-structured.

If you watch his lecture videos you can easily grasp onto course concepts. Furthermore he gives you an opportunity to do extra assignments for bonus marks. It is mandatory to attend his classes to participate in-class activities as it is counted for marks. They way he splits up the course weight is very fair and gives a chance for boost your mark.
The professor provided lecture videos which basically summarizes each week's module. He also responds quickly to student inquiries on the discussion board. Make sure you watch his lecture videos as he goes over how to use the calculator! Once you learn that, the course becomes a lot easier.

I am a computer science major doing a finance minor and by far all the courses I have done I have selected his class for 3 courses. He is one of the best prof at TMU including all the faculties. He gives many chances throughout his course to get bonus marks/grades so that way your midterm & final exams are not the only way to test your knowledge.
He's an amazing professor. Idk what other students went through with him, but he's very caring. Despite the heavy accent, he clearly explains everything and does it on the calculator, too, if asked. He provides online lectures that are posted, and they're helpful. I missed a module and emailed during finals to request access, and he allowed it.
One of the best profs when it comes to Finance courses as a GMS student, Prof. Rakhmayil has prepared everything well for students to study and practice the chapters. Provides in-class exercises, and there is a final bonus assignment for 10% which is helpful. Overall my experience was great, since the prof. made everything clear and organized.

While it wasn't really a fun course for me, Sergiy made it significantly better. Exams are kind of difficult but fair overall. You get lots of opportunities to get your grade up before finals with the in class quizzes, MyLab homework and bonus assignment. Your lowest marks are dropped for most things. He also lets you attend lectures on Zoom.

This is the one of the worst professors I've ever met. Do not expect to learn anything from his course. The slides are useless and it is hard for you to review, except for constantly practicing questions without understanding of the concepts.

Honestly, so surprised to see such low reviews but use this one as the most current/relevant one. He is a great professor, provides option to attend lectures on Zoom (very big bonus), has in class quizzes, Mylabs and after class assignments (all very doable using his slide content), and to do well on the exams use practice tests as he suggests.
So many bonus grade opportunities, love this guy. He also talks about international politics, the inner workings of corporate politics, and corporate insiders, which was great to learn as well. If you have some degree of critical thinking, you will do well. Ignore the low ratings, as they don't put in an ounce of effort and expect As.
