He's not too bad, but very unclear. He usually will teach the hardest way to solve a problem, and if you read the book you will probably understand it better. He's a harsh grader and will mark you down a ton of points for little mistakes, so really one little mistake on an exam is the difference between an A and a C.
Drop out of his class if you get him.
The class it's self wasn't very difficult but he made everything a million times more confusing than it needed to be. I would advise not taking him if you have a choice. He also takes off a lot of points for very minor mistakes. He also will take off points if you get the right answer but don't show enough work.
Seshu is a professor who believes in complicating every possible lesson or theory and then dinging you severly for it on the testquiz. Teacher was well up to date with canvas and grades but did not manage to teach the concepts well enough. I would not recommend him as a grader.. ever.
Seshu Rao is possibly one of the worst teachers I have ever had. He writes things on the board extremely fast that he doesn't explain and then erases it all before you have half of it copied. I would strongly suggest not taking any class he teaches.
worst teacher I have ever had in my whole life. He is a horrible teacher plus he grades hard. you have to pick one or the other buddy. had to drop this class because there was no way I was going to pass.
I won't not want to take in again. I fly over in school work way to fast can barely keep up with him in his lectures. I took him spring of 2015. Unclean expectation
I don't know why everybody be roastin him but I had him last year Spring quarter 2015, and I have him again this year Fall 2015, and he has been the best math teacher I've had yet at EWU. He speaks clearly, and at a slow enough pace for you to understand the concept. He also gives many extensions on homework, and is understanding.
I had zero problems with Professor Rao, the tests were easy and he gave plenty of time to complete any homework that was due outside of class. Show up to class, take notes, do the homework and reviews and you'll pass this class with ease.
Kind of a goofy professor. You can tell he is really intelligent, but is extremely understanding when it comes to something you don't know. He knows how to explain things in multiple ways, or rather dumb things down for people. I skipped a few classes, and did excellent. He goes over hw in class the day its due. Tests are easy, easy grader.
My first quarter at EWU and I was put in his class... Never skipped a lecture, and did all the homework and online reviews. Terrible professor he erases stuff too fast, and he grades super tough. Went to his office hours for help a few times, and got the sense I wasn't worth his time. He doesn't give a review that prepares you for tests! If you get him for a class and care about your GPA, I recommend either dropping his class or try enrolling in a different section.
I don't know why everyone is giving him such bad reviews! He's an good teacher and really cares about his students. Super goofy, and makes weird jokes, but all in all good. He moves dates around a lot so you can spend more time on a topic, and the tests are really short.
I have never been one to have perfect attendance in any class, but it comes with ease when going to his class, he is so goofy, intelligent, and understanding. Some students don't click with him for he is super silly and often giggles to himself. But for students who pay attention they will learn a lot from him. He wants his students to succeed.
One of the best professors in the math department. He is really goofy and he talks to himself. Show up to the group projects, do the hw review online and the book hw you will do fine. The test is similar to the group projects and math review and he grades fairly on the test. Show up to class even though he does not take attendance its very helpful.
Very unhelpful. I went to visit him during office hours and he just showed me my assignment grades (which I already knew) and told me "I don't know what else to tell you"
Profesor Rao is hard to follow. He would give practice exams, but what was on those exams was often not on the actual tests. He is a funny guy, and super accomodating. This class was extremely difficult for me.
Rao sometimes made things a little more complicated than they are, but you can tell he's extremely passionate about what he's teaching and loves the subject matter!
Seshu is very caring and he loves what he does. There are group projects that really do help when it comes to the test. He makes the class fun and easy to learn. I recommend him. He also records his lessons and posts them right after class so if you missed a day it is very easy to catch up.
If you go to class and do the homework, you'll do just fine. His exams aren't to test your knowledge, but to test how well you understand the theories and formulas. He is passionate about mathematics, and it is obvious. He pays attention to who watches the videos and gives extra credit to those who watch the quiz and exam solutions.
He is very kind and humble.. regular exams were not that bad but the final was hard and dropped my grade a lot so study hard for the final ! nice grader though and probably the easiest among all other calculus professors at ewu ..I had him for math 141 too .Just study harder for his finals they are usually harder than his regular exams..
I took his class for 114 and 141. He is a consistent professor and cares about his students passing. If you put in the effort and show up to class, he will help you in the end if you are right there on the margin. His finals are very similar to the study guide he puts out. He posts all of his lectures online to review if needed. Give him a chance!
The worst math professor!
This guy straight will straight up would star right at someone or at a wall to his right so those are his everyone knows he is staring looks but sometimes he will just stop and look at the back of that class. Umm oh yea. If he was a drinking game man would he wipe out a city. Keyword: mmmm K
Attendance is done on an app. has an odd cell phone policy, He wants you to have your cell phone in front of you face down, if he sees you on it he'll call you out gives a warning, the second time you get points off. As to his teaching methods, he uses a tablet to record his lectures. If you do your hw and go to class and you will pass.
He is good in grading. try to not miss the class and do the homework
Went off topic a lot. Messed up his examples a lot as he was trying to explain them, leaving students more confused and not knowing how to do them. He is very specific in his grading, you could have the right answer and the right work but you can still get points off if it is not written how he wants it or you did it a different way than he does it
He doesnt actually teach the class. He gives you examples and then blames you when you dont understand. When he "helps" he just tells you that "you did something wrong" and walks away. DONT TAKE ANY COURSES TAUGHT BY HIM HE IS AWFUL!!!!
In my opinion one of the easiest math teachers. His group activities on Friday's are literally what's on the tests! And the final exam is the exam is the EXACT same problems as the study guide! (just different numbers) BUT same exact problems! Only downside was the homework, it was just a lot. Not to mention, he curves grades :)
Professor Rao is very good at math, but he is not so good at teaching it. He makes lots of mistakes when teaching and has to go back and redo the problem which makes it hard to focus. He also has a very strict cell phone policy, where he makes everyone put them in a caddie at the beginning of class. No make-up scores, and he's hard to understand
He is not an easy guy to like. He is a super harsh grader and his teaching is all over the place. He liked to rush through topics while the rest of the class was still trying to understand the concepts. He makes you put your phone in a phone holder in front of the class so he treats you like a kid. If possible take this class with another professor
Professor Rao knows what he is talking about but he makes mistakes during lecture which breaks focus. He also goes over the examples very fast so if you don't understand it, you're out of luck. If people talk during class, he will stop the lecture completely until they stop talking. It's very distracting
Do all the homework and make sure you study the homework problems for your quizzes and the exams because he chooses problems from the homework and changes the numbers! There was one take home portion of the exam which was extremely difficult so make sure you partner up with someone for help!! The final exam was based off of the homework.
he is very good professor, Ive taken him in math 141 as well. he go through everything step by step making sure that you understand everything. study the homework for the exams.
The class was not too bad. Straight forward on what he expects from you every week, two person quiz, group project, homework and then obviously a test over the material covered. Also, he records the lectures every day and puts them on canvas. I would recommend going to class because of the participant he requires from you.
Very organized and clear with the class. Its not the easiest subject but he makes it easier. His lectures are clear and organized, if you miss a day he uploads the lectures online. Make sure to study group projects because they are the most like the test. Best math teacher I had at EWU
records lectures and exams are just like the group projects
Worst teacher i've had yet at EWU. Tests every week, long boring lectures and offers no help if you need it.
Professor Rao was a decent professor. Attendance is mandatory. You must solve problems exactly like he teaches or else you will be marked wrong even if you get the correct answer. Claims resources outside class are not justified which i dont agree with but you have to adapt. Makes you work for a good grade but its definitely attainable if you try
Professor Rao is straight to the point. He is very consistent in his lecturing and grading. He does extremely well at teaching precalc! He teaches in such a way where I dont have questions, or If I do, he is great at revisiting at explaining. He does tend to be very short, so emphasis will be needed if you truly need help, besides that, easy A.
Overall his teaching style is kinda fast so it hards to write notes and pay attention. Some of his analysis on things dont make sense. Hes a good guy but just make sure you get your homework on time. I barley studied for the quizzes, tests, and Bartley did good on the homework. But I still passed C+. He will also extend your assignments.
I took Dr. Rao for 141 and 142 (142 was online). His lectures were easy to understand & it made me realize how much I liked math. He gives HW problems which are like those on the tests. Dr. Rao is an eccentric person, & is very reserved, which made whenever he talked about himself (the few times he did) very interesting. He is very intelligent.
Ive taken this class twice before this with a different professor and failed both times. This course in general is really hard but Rao explains things easier and gives a lot of examples to make sure you understand the concept. He's also a lenient grader when it comes to tests and quizzes.
Hes probably the most awkward person you will meet. Hes okay at math but messes up a lot. Not much hw. Not horrible not great
The combination between his rushed lecture style and messy notes which makes looking back and studying difficult. In addition to him getting border line angry with students when they dont understand what he is teaching, then acts condescending when trying to help. Students end up getting more help from the person next to them and online than him.
I took Pre-Calc 2 with this professor and it was the worst quarter of my entire life. The material was fast and extremely difficult and out of the 5 exams we took, he only curved one. Not very much homework and he did drop 2 quizzes and 2 homeworks, but the exams were weighed heavy and difficult to do good on. He's nice, but also painfully awkward.
We had quizzes almost every week and tests every other week. He does a good job of explaining the material. If you put the effort in outside of class, you should pass. He records every lecture in case you miss class. Overall, I enjoyed having him as a professor for this class.
He likes to aggressively take my notebook and took points off for "not showing my work" when it was clearly there. Need any help with any problem, he won't help, just tells you it's wrong. Do not take him!
Overall, he is super nice. However, it is hard to understand him as he teaches and sometimes, he moves too fast. He will often assume since we went over the problems before that we know how to solve them and won't break it down for the class.
I liked him, he was nice and very understanding. But GO TO CLASS even though he makes videos that you can watch at home you need to go or you won't understand what's happening at all.
He was a bad teacher. I could have taught the course better than him. He was all over the place when trying to explain the homework and answered your questions in a confusing manner. He also made mistakes in tests and would get very defensive when students tried to correct him. Be prepared for very confusing lectures.
Terrible lecturer
Possibly the most incompetent professor i've ever had. He isn't able to lecture in the slightest (I took the videos he posts of his lectures and had to spend half an hour to make a document to understand what we were doing). He also singles out students whom talk back to him, as he can't take criticism. I learned more from my classroom neighbor
Lectures are downright incomprehensible. With little to no information on Statistics, you will be lost from the first day of class. Rao spends too much time on unimportant details so you are always left wondering what is important and what is not. No open note tests make this even more difficult. DO NOT TAKE if you can help it.
He doesn't teach well. He literally asked me "what's wrong with you." He blames everything on you no matter what. If you ask him a question he gets upset with you and makes you feel stupid. I did not learn anything from him, everything that I learned I taught myself through the textbook, which is the only reason I am passing this class.
This is by far the worst professor I've ever had. He has no idea how to lecture or answer questions. If you don't understand the topic and try to ask a question just say that you have to figure it out by yourself. Our class average for a test was 70% and instead of him trying to teach the concepts better he blamed the students for the grades.
Doesn't help students, bad at explaining, do not take this class unless you are a masochist
I was in his 141 class. BEWARE. The only reason I got a good grade is because I went to the math lab every day after class. The tutors taught me more than him.
He would always put questions on the test that no one would understand. He was always giving us points on the test caused the average wasn't high enough. He is kinda weird and will go off about random things. He would also like give us attitude and stuff.
I started out with a failing grade but after going to the math lab, I got better and my grade went up. If you put in the work you will do fine, but remember... he really doesn't tech well at all!!! I will say that he is generous with grading and will give points for understanding the basic concepts on things. I would take him again if I had to.
This is by far the best calc professor that I have had.Rao took his time in explaining topics. He doesn't put the answers on the board at first, he makes YOU solve them and he goes around and helps people who are stuck, then he goes over how to get the correct answer. The quizzes and tests were relatively easy with studying and his grading was fair.
Very rude, acts like he would rather be anywhere other than that classroom. Refused to curb the final, despite the average being lower than what was needed to pass. I emailed him about this, and he just said I should have attended more classes, even though i know he couldn't recognize my name, and therefore doesn't know my attendance history.
I've always loved math until this class. Has asked the class multiple times if they were ever taught a certain skill by a previous teacher, and when no one has been, his response is "well you should've learned it by now" and moves on to something else instead of teaching us, so everyone is set up to struggle. Nice person, but difficult to follow.
If you love stress, take him. Otherwise look for another professor. He ignores me half of the time. If your stuck and you ask him, he will take a look and then proceed to say "something is not right" or help you if its a good day which is never. Teacher shows, solves, twists the problem, confuses many, explains it, then repeats this process.
I had Prof. Rao for Calc I and II. His lectures were easy to follow and any you miss are posted to Canvas. Lectures, quizzes, and webassign are great indicators for what will be on the test. If you do well on those you'll be fine for the exams.
He explains and goes over the lectures that are easy for us to comprehend. He also helps if you still don't understand the lecture.
His notes are messy; does the work instead of actually showing you how to do it. He jumps from different topics randomly. If you don't know something, he will not help. He gets snappy. He is nice if you go during his office hours. He doesn't drop any exams, and there are 5, including the final. There are also two hmwrks and a quiz every week.
Decent amount of tests. Many lectures, clear explanations. Will pass easily if you put in the effort.
I don't think I've ever disliked a professor so much. Very sloppy notes and doesn't explain things well. He gets very snappy with people and is extremely passive aggressive. He will do pop quizzes. Will ask trick questions on tests. Every class is a lecture with multiple pages of notes. Don't take his class, I have no good things to say about him.
Great calc 2 professor. He does not waste your time showing pointless math proofs - he just straight-up teaches you the material. Exams are relatively easy and his study guides actually prepare you for the exams. I would definitely recommend him for calculus.
Would be pretty rude if you did not get an answer correctly and would loudly exclaim that to the class. Would not elaborate if you asked a question and would just repeat the same thing. Extremely tough grader and would take points off if you did not do it his way. I did like how he records the lectures and posts them.
Terrible at teaching. Does not know how to explain things. Does not make his students test ready, before the test is given. Meaning that sometimes things that are on the test are hardly or never talked about in class. Highly advise you to choose another professor if you have the chance.
Doesn't teach, only reads out of textbook, makes little time for questions and when asked replies vaguely, homework/tests are both basic and fairly easy if you study outside of class, but quizzes are based of group participation if you have an idiot in the group you either do it all yourself and -points or you have no input.
he hasn't graded any test since October 24 it's now December 6. When he grades discussion boards or labs, he takes points off for silly things and when you do good on the discussion boards or labs and he tells you you do good you still don't get 100%. he also has no clear grading scale.
He is VERY difficult to work with and rude. If the university doesn't require it, he doesn't do it. He doesn't know how to teach and is horrible at explaining things. He is rude answering questions. Test heavy. He will lie and say something isn't on the test, then do the exact opposite. He will also test on material only covered once.
Pretty difficult to work with. Had a partner project on excel and he wouldn't tell me who my partner was, (he said he'd email me who they were) then got on my back for not reaching out to said partner - ended up failing me on the project and told me to do it myself 🤷 doesn't teach the material he kinda just says what's there. bad notes
Awful class, made school so stressful
Professor is all over the place during lectures making it not with it to go, attendance isn't mandatory, but he will hurt ur grade if u don't go by him grading ur quizzes and tests harder or send u emails asking why you aren't in class. I don't recommend him if u have no prior knowledge of stats as u will most likely fail.
Illegible handwriting, good luck properly writing down notes when you can't read the board. Outwrite refused to explain subjects in more detail or help when students had questions. Also complains when there is commonly missed questions on quiz's or tests and blames the students, but still won't go over the problem in detail. Just rude in general.
I felt like banging my head against the wall with him as a teacher. He made an easy subject so much more complicated. He is all over the place; he doesn't understand your questions and brushes you off very quickly. He is not clear in his teachings. The only good thing is that he gives you a little grace on tests. NEVER take him!
The professor assigns a lot of homework, but it's fairly easy. Be ready for a quiz each week and for hard tests. The final itself is the hardest test (obviously), but he poorly prepares you to take it. Attendance is not mandatory except for review days. The professor is very technologically challenged and answers questions poorly.
This course was interesting, but the way it was taught made understanding it more challenging due to inconsistency with methods and a lack of explaining theory. The best thing I can say about this professor is that he grades assignments fairly, though the weighting in the course is less desirable, prioritizing few tests above practice or learning.
