His class was so fun. Lots of class discussion. His uses interesting methods to get his point across. If you are looking for excitement in English I definitely recommend Seth.
his sense of humor scared me
Seth is an awesome teacher he makes English fun and writing as well. He really enjoys his work I can tell. If you want a good English teacher I reccomend Seth he's great. Lol hes the only teacher I know with long hair
Mr. Martin is awesome. He is very organized and teaches with style. If you don't like English, but it's your requirement, take Seth and you'll be OK.
English 102 in the Virtual form with Seth was terrible. He slacked on grading papers/postings as well as lacking in the area of communication with students. Very hard to get a hold of by telephone or in another format. Personally, I'll find another professor if I must take another English course. Never again.
What a man! I was not expecting my eng. prof. to be like Seth. He is funny and interesting for the most part. I'm glad I have him for a teacher; it's my fav class this sem.

I had a very good time in class. The subject matter covered in class held my interest. Seth does a good job keeping you interested.
haha. he is a nice man. a little odd in his own way, but no reason to not take the class. overall, the class is like any english course. lots of essay writing, but he is a good teach
He was soooooo terrible, I could hardly undertand any of the material he gave. He was "flying" over topics and doesn't get much hold over class discussions. I will never "think" about taking English with him again!
seth made english 102 more than just writing. He is an extremely intelegent man and it shows in his subject matter. Interesting essay assignments. It was a fun class.
Very funny and entertaining however he grades ridiculously hard. I've never struggled in Engilsh until this class. He is very tough on grading papers, it's a lot of work and hard to get an A but he's definitly nicer and more interesting than register. The only thing is he doesn't give enough time to write papers so be prepared to work your butt off
This guy is a jerk! He's the worst teacher I've ever had at HACC!! I will never take his class again!!!
Seth might seem nice in the begging but he is the biggest Jerkface at HACC. It pisses him off if you get to class few minutes late, so you better be there early all the time. dont go to the restroom during class, pee in your pants. He doesn’t follow his syllabus, unfairly grades papers, and expects you to participate when no one else is doing it bu
seth was a great teacher. i think what other students dont like about him is that he expects college quality work out of his students and most of them just are not up that level. it's not his fault that his students are lazy.

He is a good teacher and really tries to make the class interesting. But, he grades incredibly hard, assigns papers on top of each other, and changes moods in a split second. He will be fine in one minute, then in the next will flip out. Seth encourages class participation, but if you don't say what he wants, he ignores you or laughs at you.
Did not enjoy the class at all (although English is not my strong area). He expects your essay/papers to be perfect, which is ok if writing papers and perfecting them all day is your thing. He swears occasionally durning class which I believe is unprofessional for a professor. Overall I did not enjoy the class or his style of teaching!
I hated Mr.Martins class. He was one of the worst teachers at hacc. All of his papers had to be perfection.
He has major mood swings. He plays favorites. He embarasses students in class. He gives ridiculous assignments and never explains. He had us read a book no other professor required and it was completely obscure.
sETH IS ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS AT HACC. HE'S VERY DEDICATED AND ENTHUSIASTIC, MAKING CLASS EVER INTERESTING. IS A PERFECTIONIST, BUT HELPFUL WHEN NEEDED
Best English teacher ever!! Very straight forward with what he wants, assignments easy if you pay attention in class, take notes, do the homework. This class was a very good spring-board into the next class, helped me out so much! Very nice man, very helpful all-round. Would definately take again!
Seth is very tough on his students because he wants them to do well. Unlike many of the professors at HACC, he sees his courses as stepping stones to college. If you take Seth, be prepared to work and not goof off, he takes his job (educating his students) very seriously.
Seth is an ass. He plays favorites, puts down students, and is way to over the top for a professional. He tries to hard to be "out of touch" with modern culture, but he isn't THAT much older then us
Seth is a great teacher, he is very eccentric and fun. He does seem to play favorites but not purposefully and no more then anyone else. I would recommend this teacher for any of you other eccentrics out there.
Really knows and cares about English; gives great book recommendations! Always makes himself available for clarification on assignments. (Someone commented that his swearing was "unprofessional." This is college, not high-school! Seth is a real person and real person sometimes use profanity.)
Seth is a great professor!! He is funny, quirky, and has an off the wall sense of humor that is quite endearing. He is will always help you with whatever you need (ideas, classwork, etc.) He is, however a perfectionist, so be prepared to work your ass off, especially when he knows you have the ability to do better (and he always does!)
Seth is probably the worst teacher I've had. He is completely vague about the literature; he never tells you what you should take out of your reading or what he wants you to know. Class discussions are pointless and I have yet to learn anything from his class.
Seth is a good teacher. It is hard work and you have to pay attention. He gets frustrated by students that just came from high school and haven't realized it yet. His criteria is hard, but if you pay attention you'll do fine!
Seth is very enthusiastic about teaching. He keeps the class moving.
Seth was a great teacher. HE is very helpful if you ask. He assigns a fair amount of assignments, but we are going to school to learn. THE NOVEL SUCKED...but oh well. As long as you do your assignments and all that is required, you will do fine.
Seth was a bad teacher, he was SOOOO Hard, he plays favorite and hated me and all the other girls in my class. My mother is an english major and had to help me with every essay because he absolutely HATED all of them. I took AP english all through high school yet he thought i was terrible and failed every essay i wrote for him, with my mothers help
Seth demands quality work and that can be challenging for some students. I don't advise taking him if you're looking for an easy grade. However, if you show interest in the material and ask questions he is eager to help. I think Seth is a great teacher, but all good instructors let you know when your work is not up to college standards.
enthusiastic about teaching, energy level is high. alot of writing and deadlines. he can be boring at times, but he's a pretty funny guy. definitely a hard grader on papers.
HORRIBLE!!! Do NOT take his class!!!!! No help what so ever! You asked him a question and he would just stare at you and say..."ok". Seemed like he didnt like any of the girls in class. Would not return emails. Papers you had to write were WAY hard and totally confusing. Seemed like I was taking a history class not a english class. DONT TAKE!!!
Seth has a reputation for not giving A's. I was one of the exceptions, but still disliked his class. He was helpful if you went to him for help. Loved the book "Freakonomics" that he used.
Do not take him! He kicked me out of class because I wasn't able to answer his question, he singles people out, his essays are incredibly hard, he is strict with EVERYTHING!!Mood swings like crazy, I would not suggest his class to anyone!
Seth loves literature, and he tries to pass it on to his students. He is hard on grading, and it is true that he will not give you an A. I took 3 different classes with him because I loved the way he teaches, and he encouraged me to be a better writer. I have reccomended him to many friends.
Don't even think to take this class
You will get back what you put into Seth's classes. If you like Eng Lit and are prepared to work hard for your grade, don't hesitate to take him. Very helpful outside of class if you have a willingness to accept criticism and want to learn. Best prof I had at HACC.
Do not take Martin's class. He does not return emails, papers are not graded in a timely manner, and he does not make his expectations for grading known in advance. His assignments are ridiculous. I wanted to be taught and was not! I guess you get what you pay for (community college).
Seth was a good teacher. Very hard with grading. A lot of textbook work and essay writing but i learned a lot from his class. He expects good quality work so be prepared to work your ass off!!!
I tested into Eng 101 never having written an essay in my life and while Mr. Martin is Not an easy grader, I ended up with an A. He did come off like a hard ass in the beginning, but I bugged the crap out of him during office hrs and he seemed to respect the dedication. If ur goofing off or slacking, he will call u out or kick u out for sure!
grades very difficult
He was overall a good professor. As long as you try hard and show him that you care about the class, he will respect you. He hates it if you text in class and not use your time wisely. I thought the class was fairly easy.
Seth is very enthusiastic about Shakespeare so it's a great class if you are also interested in Shakespeare. Grading is pretty hard but if you actually try then you'll do well. The only issue, is that some of the subject matter is subjective and he treats it in an objective manner. It's like arguing about poetry.
Extremely vague with what he expects from his students. Provides unclear instructions for essays and other assignments. Choices of required literature are all over the place. Impossible to schedule meetings with. Doesn't show up to scheduled meetings. Very disheveled.
Very vague with expectations. Kicks students out of class if he thinks they aren't paying attention. Grading is all over the place. Everyone in my class received a c or lower on their first essay. Not helpful with feedback on work.
If you choose him you will be making a big mistake he is terrible. Do not take this class
Prof. Martin is mild-mannered, quirky, and takes class seriously. You need to do the reading and the work for an A. The reading material is awesome if you're a reader, but classes can be bland some days. He isn't always clear on what he expects on papers, which is a downside, makes it awkward approaching him. But his class made me a better student.
Mr. Martin is very helpful, if you make the effort to ask for help. This class involves a lot of reading, it took me hours to complete reading assignments, (because I had a hard time understanding/follow what I was reading.)
Never replies to emails, is no help with anything whatsoever. Everyone in my class got a C or lower on the first essay. Horrible assignments that takes hours for each and make no sense. Do not take this professor, he is terrible.
Seth is very literally in english. if u take him, be prepare for the hard work. he gives a nice feedback for ur essays but not the grades :D most of my class mates received C or lower in his class. if english is not ur 1st language, DO NOT bother
Overall just very unhelpful and poor grading.
Professor Martin is the nicest guy ever. He is willing to help you if you have any questions. His teaching method is a bit confusing, he's not very clear on what he wants from you in your assignments. If you love English and you've been very successful in English in the past I say go for it. If its not your strongest subject I wouldn't suggest him.
I loved this professor and thought he was an amazing teacher. He is very hard and expects you to work for your grade. If you love English and want to get better at it, def. take his class. I wouldn't take his class though if you do not have a passion for writing.
This was one of the hardest classes I took at HACC. There is a lot of reading and writing involved. I wanted to drop the class many times but decided to stick with it, and became a better writer and critical thinker as a result. If you want to challenge yourself and become a better readerwriter definitely take this professor!
Prof. Martin made literature fun for a technical writing major. He has a clear passion about the material and encourages you to feel the same. Journals, tests, quizzes, and papers are no problem as long as you read and follow criteria. PARTICIPATE IN CLASS! It's incredibly rewarding and Prof. Martin will appreciate it greatly.
Not a hard class. At times he can be confusing. Tries to be funny with his goofiness. Must read the book because he probably will give a pop quiz, if nobody is talking about what they had read. But overall it's an easy class. But be ready to write papers back to back.
Very funny man, very poor communicator. Not able to explain his writing assignments well, not able to give clarification on criteria. Summer course has, understandably, a LOT of homework, expect to write a 3-5 page draft paper in 5 days, and have a final ready in the next 2.
He's a nice guy, but I didn't get him. What he didn't realize was that he was teaching us useless information. He also had no concept of the limitations of the human body.
He is weird and feedback on papers is hard to understand. Does not give you a paper copy of what he writes in class.
One of the best classes I have ever taken! Seth has a great sense of humor and work ethic. He is enthusiastic and extremely knowledgeable about literature. He challenges you to be a better writer, reader, and thinker! The assignments are interesting and inspiring. Not a class for lazy people!
He's an awesome guy, just wants you to work hard and come to class.
I always looked forward to his class. He was very easy to talk to and energetic, eager to teach.
Professor Martin definitely makes you work for your grade. However, I enjoy it because it forces me to think hard about my essays. He has a strict attendance policy and follows with it, so make sure you show up to class on time. He is also very understanding, so if you need help, let him know and he will explain it, even if you have to remind him.
Fun personality but my god, one of the toughest graders I've ever had, expects complete dedication so if you have a busy schedule do not take his classes.
This man is an irrataion! He acts like a high school teacher but has the expectation of high level teacher. You will be murdered by homework and bombard with work. He allows no talking, no phones and no fun. Highly sucks.
Martin challenges you immediately. Vocabulary must be rich in order to understand his text books. You dedication to this class will mirror your overall grade.
Mr. Martin is a homework junky. Be prepared to write essays and summaries and very class night. You will also have lots of class work. When you think your paper is done... you will flip it and have more! Very hard grader.
Horrible professor
No beating around the bush. Seth Martin is by far, the worst Professor I've had at HACC. If Seth was the last Professor open for registration, I would take an online class instead. I had no clue what my grade was throughout the entire semester. It took him two months just to tell me my essay corrections "didn't count". How unprofessional. DON'T!!!
Horrible professor. I'll never take a class with him again. He should not be a English profesor!
After the first class, I thought I would like Seth- he seemed a little off in a good/funny way. But once we got into the class I definitely changed by mind- I'm strong in English so the papers were easy for me, but Seth would call me/other students out in class and criticize them for being wrong, even when they weren't. Could not get along with him
My first impression was that he is nice and cares about his students. Wrong. There's lots of reading for every class, and you are expected to know it. Pop quizzes are big with him. He treats an intro class like it is your major. Even after asking students about their other obligations, he still piles on the readings. I would not recommend.
Really tough grader. Expects you to know all information even if not discussed in class. Doesn't take the time to explain and help you understand and then expects you to know everything, gives a 20 question pop quiz on material we dont understand.
One of the worst professors ive had at HACC. I am strong in english, however every assignment I handed was given a bad grade. During peer review I had all of the elements but when my paper was turned in I was missing things. His feedback is also very poor, I would not recommend taking Professor Martin unless you dont work and have no life.
Pushes you to critically analyze literature and challenges you to broaden your vocabulary. However his method of teaching is not conducive to the work he expects you to produce. Tough grader, way too much homework for an intro class and for students who work and have families.
Nice person, hard professor. Does not give clear explanations or feed back. Lots of pop quizzes on readings.
Gets mad easily, the class can be boring, A LOT of essays.
He is very disrespectful takes out his personal problems onto the students. Paper due every week sometime two papers due a week. Does not care for no one. Very awkward and just a rude person. I never would take his class.
Seth was the worst processor Ive ever had. Too many essays and not enough time to do them. Even when we did them, he never gave them back. Wrote so many things and completed so many assignments I still dont have back. Never knew my grade in the class because he NEVER grades. Never emails you back when you need help. Doesnt really teach. Horrible
Taking this class I really liked Seth as a professor, I thought he was funny and kind. He makes times for his students to ask questions, and makes time outside of class to see his students to get feedback. One thing that makes me upset about his teaching style is he will only let you revise your papers if received a D. I hope he changes that rule:(
He gives pop quizzes and his gads are not fair.
He is very nice, and always willing to help out. He does try to be very entertaining, however the essays and work does get to be quite tedious. Be prepared to do a lot of writing, and reading.
Guys. I've been a straight A student my whole life (still am), and this class was the most ridiculously difficult one I've ever taken. There are eight (EIGHT!) essays on top of at least 15 smaller writing assignments. Grading is extremely tough. If you want a 101 class that isn't like a 400 level difficulty, DONT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM!
I felt nervous to take this professor because of previous reviews, but; grading criteria was always clear, notes were posted daily, he was available for answering questions (clearly, too), he allowed collaboration with other students, grading was fair, there were daily pop quizzes on reading, but, overall he was a good professor.
A wonderful professor, most reviews are inaccurate.
Professor Martin is an easy-going, what you expect kind of English Prof. His essays aren't too terrible, and the discussions in class are always chill. He gives good feedback, emails quickly, and is always available for questions. He is always super enthusiastic and cracks jokes all class. If I have the chance to take him again, I definitely will.
His class was fun. Grading is clear, and this professor is so nice. I would take him again.
Dont like the amount of essays he gave us. He is a really tough grader so watch out for that.
Seth Martin is a good professor but, a tough grader. I'm not sure if every professor's like this but, I had to write 5 essays. Each essay was 3 pages long. In high school I took honors English. I use to get A's but, after taking this class that A turned into a C. If you have hard class or, a lot of classes I don't recommend taking this class at all
I think hes an okay professor, the only issue with him is he a tough grader. I got sick with a cold. I also have health conditions he still wouldn't accept one late assigment. I wouldn't take this class if you have any hard classes or, you enjoy having no free time. He's not the best professor. I always turned my assignments in on time! I'm Serious
I had him as a professor for both ENG101 and ENG102 and he is very good. He does require a lot of essays, so if you don't like writing then I can see you having trouble. That being said, his criteria is clear and he will go over it several times during class. I have seen my writing improve greatly after taking his classes.
Will not budge on grading. Gave zero feedback and graded an F on my only paper that was 10 hours late the entire semester. He was my only Proff that gave zero extra credit assignments. Is not worth the extras stress if you are working during your online classes or if you are a parent etc. Seemed like a lot of work for a 100 level class.
I read these reviews before classes began, and honestly he's not nearly as bad as everyone says. He's a super nice guy, tries to make class entertaining, and although there's a lot of writing, it's really not difficult work at all. I wasn't feeling well one day, and he was nice/told me to feel better when he emailed me back. He's really not bad.
Professor is strict on grading, but lectures are engaging. Plenty of writing assignments - use Unstuck ai and the free textbook to stay on top of it all.
Prof. Martin is respectful, kind, approachable, understanding, descriptive, and dramatic (in the very best way). He keeps his students involved and is always open to questions. I signed up to have him again for my next English class.
I wrote the first paper, got a C, but was told that I'm 'a good writer.' Yes I know that, but my grade didn't reflect that. The second paper was written with rigorous effort and editted by my girlfriend, a pretty, smart valedictorian English major. 11/12 with positive comments all over. I talked to him and I lost a point because "🤷🏻" (Martin).
