Extremely hard. You can do a problem on a test, know what your'e doing, be a little off, and get the whole thing wrong. I felt good going into both of the 1st 2 tests and failed them both. He isn't helpful at all and provides no personal attention.

after taking tax i and ii, i wish hammer and rosenberg can learn from each other. Rosenberg seems to know the material well, but he does not care about whether you learn something. Hammer is the opporsite.

If you had him for Intermediate, he's totally different in Tax II. Doesn't really teach - just reviews the homework. Which is OK cause the tests ARE the homework. By far the hardest course you will encounter in the Accounting curriculum. Nice guy.

Not a good teacher. The class started out with 40 people, and ended with 12. Was not willing to help students. Explains problems in class, but homework is 10 times more complex. Do not take.

The tests are a direct correlation to the homework. If a student knows how to do every homework problem with only changing the numbers, then the student will do well in class. I found him very caring and willing to help. Alot of attention to detail with tax. Grades very easy on the memo.

Overall good teacher. Tests are a bit difficult, but as long as you study you will be fine. Tests look a lot like the homework problems, so do your homework, or atleast copy down the answers when he goes over them.

Accounting is not easy, but if you study and do homework you'll be good. He goes over a lot of things in class so although he doesnt take attendance missing class is stupid. The people who skip and dont pay attention were getting 50's on the exams and dropping the class half way.

Dont listen to the people who said he was a tough professor. They are probably the slackers in the class. If you go to class and do the HWs your fine (he only collects 3 of them). He only teaches whats going to be on the test and he gives a review sheet-no curveballs! I suck at math and I have an A in the class. Great professor-Take him!

Hammer is a good teacher. He explains things clear and gives relevant examples (exactly like what would come out on the test). his tests are quite hard and you gotta study really. but nothing in the test had not been covered in class (no surprises). he's a reasonble teacher but can be boring because he speaks in monotone.

This class is only easy because you know exactly what to study. The material itself can be hard and you must study. The class is deffinitly doable if you put the time in. Make sure to study the homework and anything that he mentions in class. Great teacher- very clear and organized.

Make it past the first test and you should do okay. The second 2/3 of the class were alot easier then the first 1/3. So if you do bad on the first test- stay in the class! Homework takes forever but its similar to test problems. I have had Hammer for Int 1, Tax 1 , and Tax 2 now. Generally if you have had him before you know the routine.

Dr. Hammer is a great professor. I had thought about dropping the accounting major 5 times, but this class has given me hope. This is a fun class. The tests aren't bad, just study the notes like everyone else said. Study the hw problems because they will be on the test. Keep up the work Dr. Hammer.

It was an easy class, the first exam is very hard.But dont drop the class if you blow the 1st exam. Staying with him, do your hw, and study your notes, you should do fine. I got an A-, but I really really really think I should get an A. Take him, good prof.

not all he is cracked up to be. just reads book in class for notes and does homework problems in class. you do the same thing every class- read book, take notes, do examples, etc. is not that helpful during office hours, and is extremely general. there is nothing special about this guy.

Prof. Hammer is a nice guy but he can by unclear sometimes explaining things. Gives 3 test total, first test and final are tough, second is not so bad. About half the class dropped after the first exam. If you did well in Acct Principles you should be ok in this class, come to class and do the HW!

Lots of memorization for exams. Isn't very generous in giving partial credit on exam questions. Will not curve grades at the end. I got a B+ but had to do tons of studying.

I liked how he taught the course, but I felt that his grading was rediculous. I took the summer session, and pretty much did nothing by studying nonstop for a month, and still pulled a C. Mainly because he gives no partial credit for the problems, and had no curve whatsoever. Just take Rosenberg.

Summer session: Lots of homework, 2 exams, and tax memo.People doing poorly on the exams were the ones not doing the homework.The final exam was cumulative but a lot of the questions were the same or very similar to questions on the 1st exam. I would not suggest taking another course while taking 361 during the summer because it is time consuming.

Summer session is intense because it's just 5 weeks. Material is hard either way. Hammer's nice but it's up to you to keep up. Tests are pretty straightforward for the most part. Don't miss class, do your work, and you'll be fine.

By far one of the best teachers at towson. I blew the first test with a 36 but got a 77 on the second and a 90 on the final. He tells you exactly what is on the tests so its just up to you to study it.

One of the best instructor in Accounting. His teaching method is very clear. I really learned a lot from him. Let you know what will be covered in exam. Just follow his study guide and make sure that you understand every single thing that is in his study guide.

If you've had Hammer before then then you pretty much know the drill. Grad based on 2 midterms, 1 cumulative final, 1 page tax memo, and homework. Homework isn't collected but he calls on you randomly to answer. Its a tough course, but if you study hard it certainly is doable

Best Teacher to have if you are serious about accounting! This is not a slacker course! Be prepared to study alot! He makes the test extra difficult to filter out the people who just bs the course. DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE IF YOU DONT HAVE ATLEAST 10 HOURS A WEEK TO STUDY!This is the class to take if you want to advance your accounting skills by far

Hammer takes a while to get the hang of, but once you do, it's worth it. He teaches accounting the way it's supposed to be taught, by actually DOING the problems, and showing you the answers. Take him over the summer, and forget about Rosenburg. The recruiters will be impressed with your A in Tax I.

Take him!! He knows his stuff, and is VERY helpful, but only if you ask questions and pay attention! Do HW or you will fail tests. I got an A, but only because I dedicated a LOT of time to hw and studying. Tip: don't miss class and take it seriously. Best ACCT professor at TU, hands down.

Hammer is the toughest teacher iv had. you will learn the material but your gpa might take a hit. if you have the time to study 10+ hours per test and 20+ hours for the final you can do well, if not you will be challenged.

Hammers tests arent easy; a cple MC w/ a lot of open ended. The material isnt too hard but theres ALOT of it. Hammer is funny though & willing to help you if you go to him. Email might not be his strong suit. Weekly homework, a rsrch memo, 2 tests and a cumm final (weighted 5,5,25,25,40 respective) But it doesnt matter bc hes the only prof for 362!

Was an extremely educational class. Gad I took the class with him. Can't stress the importance of studying for the first exam. Study Study Study. The next two exams are much easier. The first eamis real intense though. Once you get over that hump you will okay. Alot of memorization is involved. You've been advised.

Didn't get the grade I would have liked to in this class, but Prof Hammer does make this class fairly easy. There is a lot of memorizing and reading. Tells you what to expect on the test. Doesn't take attendance. Read and take notes and you will be ok.

If you like Tax and want to learn more about the Code and how it applies to Corporations, Partnerships, Estates, and Trusts, DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE AT THIS INSTITUTION WITH THIS PROFESSOR!!! Unless you are a genius in Tax or are a practicing Tax Accountant. Dr. Hammer is helpful but will not sit down with you one-on-one for help with this course.

Dr. Hammer is the man! I retook this class after taking Dr. Wharton the first time. This class involves a lot of memorization but that is accounting! Dr. Hammer makes it clear what will be on the test. I earned a full A in this class and I devoted A LOT of time. Flashcards work well! Dr. Hammer does not trick you. Clear and manageable.

Tax I hybrid summer course- This class was difficult with the lack of time, but Hammer is manageable. All exam questions will come from homework and lecture. Hammer focuses a lot on the calculations which are simple, you just have to remember the rules. The text book is much easier than the CCH book too. Take him, avoid Rosenberg.

Hammer is tough, but fair. Warning: Make doubly sure you memorize your vocabulary and practice the class examples!!!There is no multiple choice in his tests. He explains things very clearly and goes over examples well. I learned a good amount of useful knowledge in his class.

DR. Hammer is a very inteligent accounting teacher, but he wants perfection from his students. You will have to spend 10 hours studying for the first 2 test (that are 50% of your grade) and about 20 hours for the final (that is 40% of your grade). its doable, i got a 63% on the first test, and a B on the next test and final and recieved a B.

Definitely a weeding class-good amount of drops after first test. Hammer gives real tests, you can't get lucky with him because they aren't multiple choice. Highly suggest notecards. Redo all exercises and homeworks wo reference because everything has to be written in on the tests. Nice guy and has a very straight forward teaching style. STUDY.

Most straight-forward professor. He tells you word for word what vocabulary items you need to know for the exams. Additionally, he will explain the exact computational problems that will be on the exam. His homework is graded for completion(rarely collected though) and the quick books project is easy as pie. You get the grade you work for. Simple.

Accounting is hard, we know. If you have to take this course, take it with Hammer. Hammer gives a study guide that goes over 90% of what is on the exam. His grading is fair and the lectures are interesting. Better sharpen up your memorization skills.

When Dr. Hammer says something will be on the test, it WILL be on the test. There are no tricks with his, which is one of the things that make him such a great instructor. He knows his stuff, especially about tax and he explains topics clearly. Make sure you study. Attendance isn't mandatory but you shouldn't miss too often.

Tests lack structure with long computations needing exact steps to be followed. instructor expects that you have pre-read the chapter and did the practice questions prior to class. The instructor failed to convey the what and why about what he taught. CPA exam to the Nth degree. Expect to use office hours to get any real understanding.

He is awesome! Very clear and knows exactly what he's talking about. 2 tests and 1 final. He tells you exactly what to expect so as long as you do what he says you will be fine. Minimal homework & it's not hard. He's also very friendly and will help you with anything. There is a lot of memorization for this class though. I recommend him 100%

Great professor lets us know whats going to happen. Reviews each exam and gives lots of partial credit. Just alot of memorizing for the terms, he likes to test on them. Very helpful aswell. Got my grade because i didn't put in the time to study the vocab.

He's pretty clear cut about his expectations. I took a summer hybrid course, which is inherently difficult because the amount of material which must be covered in very short period of time. If u study consistently and ask questions, it's not hard to get an A - even in a summer course. He makes himself available and is open to explaining concepts.

Hammer is the BEST acct professor ive had so far. Class is inherently difficult bc its intermediate. But hes so willing to help. Lectures are clear/straight forward. Provides study guides for exams. There are 2 exams, 2 hw assignments, and 1 final. He makes sure everyone is on the same page. he CARES a lot!! and wants you to do well! TAKE HIM

Best acct professor at Towson. Intermediate Acct is hard but If Dr. Hammer says something will be on the test, IT WILL be on the test. attendance not mandatory, but go because he's lecture-heavy. He jokes around a lot so class isn't all dreadful. Grade consists of 2 exams & a final. He's super caring of his acct students. Take him! u wont regret it

ACCT 301 is a tough class to begin with, so don't think about skipping Hammer's class. He doesn't take attendance, but if you do skip make sure you get the notes from someone else. Not many assignments that he grades - Wiley Plus, Quickbooks, 2 exams, & a quiz. He makes it clear about what will be on his exams & stresses to use notecards to prepare

Tells you exactly what will be on the test. Flash cards are what got me through this class. It's not hard if you listen to what he says to know and memorize. Memorization is key to getting a good grade. Looked forward to this class and would take Hammer again he's knowledgeable, funny, and really nice!

Hammer is nice and makes ok jokes, but does not play with exams. There is no how you will pass without opening your book and reading it. Attendance is not mandatory, but trust me, you should still go. He is not as clear in class, but provides the information you will need to study for the exams. NO EXTRA CREDIT, STUDY and DO PRACTICE PROBLEMS

I had better instruction at community college where I was paying a fifth of the tuition. Doesn't teach the material just walks through one practice problem a class and the rest is on you to teach yourself. Tests are ridiculously hard. I've never spent so much time studying for a class and was still the first time I've failed tests in college.

Very stubborn and has little empathy. Will fail a whole class and not care. He expects all the students to know as much as him and doesn't articulate concepts clearly. He only talks from the textbook, no powerpoint or anything - straight lecture. Rarely answers the questions asked.

One of the best professors I have ever had. His lectures really explain the material well because he relates it to current events and does examples with you in class. He tells you what will be on the exam, it may be a little hard, but if you put forth the effort to study, it's hard not to pass. MAKE FLASHCARDS. Highly recommend him.

Class was difficult but is willing to help if you need help. goes over homework in class and practice problems, but that is pretty much it. A lot of self teaching but he will help you. Gives you practice problems and tells you exactly what is on the test. The practice problems are the same as the test, just different numbers

Hammer is a really great professor who really knows his stuff. He wants you to succeed, but you need to put in the work. He doesn't grade for attendance but you need to go to class, he does a lot of practice problems that are really helpful and tells you word for word what will be on the exams. Get ready to memorize. Overall he's a great teacher.

Hardest class I've ever taken and prof is not understanding at all. Such a hard grader. Final is worth 35% of your grade and your grade really is only based on exams that are hard. He tells you to use flashcards but expects you to memorize so many lists all with 4-5 items on each so memorization really doesn't work...

Worst professor I've ever had. Gives extremely boring lectures that are hard to follow. Your grade is made up only of exams that he grades toughly. I had to drop the class to avoid failing, and then took it the next semester with a different professor and got an A.

Instructor lacks respect for students' intelligence and commitment to learning. Arrogant and unhelpful. Expects students to memorize and regurgitate info. Approached him for help/advice after struggling with an exam, he scoffed and said this isn't hard, you should just drop the class. I got an A with a different prof next semester.

Tests are memorization heavy. He gives you a vague outline of the test before, but it's not very helpful. He is particular in grading. Knows his stuff and is good at relaying the information. The class is tough, but doable.

He will tell you to make flashcards the whole semester. I even went to his office hours to show him my flashcards and I still got a D- on the exam. about 1/3 of the students in there were retaking his class. the class is straight memorization. Exams carry 85% of your grade.

Terrible professor. Im currently a sophomore and never got anything lower than a A- until I took this class. Seth Hammer has no empathy for his students.I had to teach myself the course since all he does is go over problems. Keep in mind that there are only 2 exams and one final, mess up on any of the exams and you might as well drop the class.

The class was a more in depth view of things learned in prerequisites, so obviously the material will be more difficult. It is a lot of info, but he tells you exactly what to know for the exams. HWs are based on effort/ completion. Make flashcards and you will do well. I would definitely recommend!!

Professor Hammers class is not as hard as you think. He goes over problems in class and tells you what is exactly going to be on the test. If you dedicate some time into studying, this class is going to be easy for you. Lectures can be boring at times but he goes over problems that will be on the test.

I'm probably going to fail this class but am still giving him a good rating. This guy is a wealth of knowledge, and he only cares as much as you do -- put in the effort and he's willing to help you stay afloat, but you have to work for it. He's very nice and you can learn a lot from him if you apply yourself.

Do not, I repeat do not take professor Hammer. I had to drop it and take it in the summer and received a B+. Had full confidence I got at least a 90 on his first exam and came back to be a 62. He will micrograde your work. Close to impossible to pass. Take someone else.

Literally the worst professor ive ever had. Please listen to the other written reviews of this man. He seems like he doesnt even know what hes teaching half the time. He made mistakes often during lectures and on handouts. Lectures just consisted of going over homework in a monotone voice. Not interactive at all, DO NOT TAKE!!!

Professor. Hammer is a very nice guy and is a great lecturer. For most people his class is the first 300 level accounting class they take so of course its going to be hard. He gives good study guides and grades failry. If you go to class and study you will definitely pass.

Accounting is a tedious subject but professor hammer taught the class as best as he could to make sure everyone understood what was going on. He also grades pretty fairly on the exams. Just make sure you put in the work and participate in class from time to time and you'll be fine.

Do not take him. I don't know how he got any good ratings. His lectures are so freaking boring and non-interactive. He talks as if you should already know everything about accounting. He doesn't teach. He just talks. Take another professor if you can!

Tax accounting is hard but if you pay attention you will learn so much. He clearly knows alot about accounting and he tells you what to study for exams and they are VERY VERY similar to the study guides. If you are an accounting major you need to take him at least once!

Amazing Professor. Goes over material clearly and provides study guides exactly like the actual exams. If you can do the practice problems out the textbook you're guaranteed to pass the exams. Grade depends heavily on 3 Exams(85% of grade). For exams he allows no cheat sheet, so you have to memorize the steps which can be difficult. Practice.......

Def a good professor if you plan to be an accounting major. If otherwise, try and take a different professor as the exams are very tedious. You are to know all of the steps of each question or you will not pass the class, so it can be very tricky! Overall a sweet guy and knows his stuff.

He is ok. All you do in class is problems from the textbook. You can't use any technology. There's 0 multiple choice on exams so you need to memorize how to do everything. He does give you everything you need for exams though. I personally wouldn't take him again but a lot of people like him. Final exam was easier than the regular exams.

If you are not a finance related major and hate math do not take. He actually is pretty straightforward as far as his teaching being exactly on exams. Accounting is not easy so you'd really have to practice material to do well on exams. He is strict in class about technology and leaving the room which can be a pain especially if disclosed late.

3 points of extra credit just for coming to most classes. He essentially tells you exactly what to expect on the tests, and does a great job explaining the concepts. He clearly cares about the students and their grades. Not much homework at all. Only downside is that he allows no electronics in class, which is probably for the best anyway.

Hammer is a great choice for 202. He breaks down concepts throroughly and makes sure the class fully understands them before moving on. Grade is super dependent on exams (2 for 25%, final for 35%) but he tells you exactly which topics to study and provides practice problems that are VERY similar to exam questions. If you don't like tax, you will be so bored in his class. He is the sweetest man; he absolutely loves what he does which makes a boring subject bearable. Entire grade is basically from tests, but they are the same as homework. He gives out study guides and if you can do every problem on there you are getting an A. No phones, only can miss 2 classes

Prof Hammer clearly knows the material, and he is a nice guy. My only issue is that even though I showed up to every class, I still had to teach myself the material before the tests. He goes over the problems during class, but it was essentially him writing it step by step and you follow along. Again, he's a nice professor, and I do recommend him.

Professor Hammer breaks down concepts thoroughly and provides study guides that mirror the actual exams. While the exams are challenging, going to class and practicing the homework makes the material manageable. Unstuck study was a lifesaver for study prep.

Professor Hammer's day to day lecture consists of basically going over questions from the textbook and showing (sometimes vague) step-by-step process of how to do them. Keep in mind that exams make up for 85% of your grade and his exams are closed notes. Textbook is a must read and memorization if you want to pass his class.

He's extremely strict on phones, if he catches you on it even in the first second of class he will ask you to leave the first time and then fail you if he catches you a second time. You basically just copy what he writes on the board every class and the hw/exams are pretty much the same questions with different numbers. Not horrible but not my fav.
