if you get below an A youre either lazy or retarded. gpa booster for sure, great for people that want to transfer to top schools. one problem though, dont just do minimum to get an A, because when u transfer you wont know enough to keep up. seth is an awesome guy. seth if youre reading this: make your classes harder, we can handle it. trust me.

Professor Hochwald is a great professor. He makes learning fun. You learn alot in his class and he teaches it in a way so that it is easy to understand. Moreover, the way he teaches the concepts, you will not forget them anytime soon. I would definetly reccomend his class to anyone.

Ok, this guy is completly awsome. Regarding the 2 lower ratings below, suck it up. He lets you have a cheat sheet, explains EXACTLY what he wants, and has a good sense of humor. It is worth the sAturday class, because you will not regret it. I highly reccommend him, and his class is by far easy to understand and easy to get a good grade.

He lightens the load by simplifying everything. I didn't even buy the book and got a B. the projects are easy, the tests are mutiple guess, and he doesn't grade for attendance either. The tests were tough because of the subject, but he made the class as easy as possible. Highly recommended. And he's got a great sense of humor, too.

I wish all the teachers at IVC were like him....ok there are 4 tests and a final, he drops one test, he gives up all the answers to one of them, and he gives 10 answers to another one, and the final comes from all those 4 tests, exact same questions.....do the math....this guy is the best

Great C++ class. He knows he's stuffs. Lots of Jokes in the class, and he lets you use your notes for C++ test. Programming is something that you dont memorize, you learn. You should be able to use your notes. Best teacher at IVC. When he's not sure about something he says that he has to look it up, and he really does. :) :)

The best stats professor! He tells you exactly what he expects from you, what will be on your exams, and no homework. Your homework is knowing what he taught during class which is what is on your exam. He makes stats easy and it is easy to get an A as long as you attend class. He's pretty funny too so it makes the 3 hours class go quick. Take him!

Fun guy. Teaches well, Doesn't make things hard on you, but expects you to do your part. I took him maybe 3 semesters..great every time. Easy tests, just study a little and listen to his lectures cuz it will really help you.

Imagine if Bob Saget took steroids and taught stats. 5 tests (allows 1pg cheat sheet for tests - put your formulas and examples from lectures) and drops the lowest test score so you may not have to take the final. Best Teacher EVER! I had him for Intro to Statistics. I hate math, and this guy actually changed that. I would HIGHLY recommend him. Just be sure to enroll early, his class fills up fast. This guy is an OUTSTANDING professor. Write down everything he puts on the board, and put together your 1 page "cheat sheet" for the exams, and learning Stats is a cakewalk. For someone who never liked math and has had a ton of crappy professors, he is a breath of fresh air. Enroll EARLY! He usually has 50+ people petitioning.

He is hilarious. Like seriously, the biggest dork ever! :) He let's us have a 1pg cheat sheet for every exam which is pretty helpful. NO HOMEWORK AT ALL! Just make sure you study for the exams. Also, enroll for him early if you can. Our class is huge and nobody really drops either. We have people sitting on the floor in the back sometimes.Good luck

I was 16 years old when I took his class. I thought that the class went through like a snap! It was super easy! If a 16-year old can do it, then everybody can do it! He made the class went by real fast. BAM! I got an A literally without doing anything! BTW the petitioners was 50 people..and I was one of the seven people added..super lucky! Good Lu

As long as you show up to every class and take all his notes, you will do fine. He gives you a cheat sheet which is basically the same questions as on the test. If class gets a 90% average on all four tests, he will drop the final and it becomes optional. I loved his class! He's hilarious.

We had some students from UCI say this class is extremely hard, but Seth made it easy. I got an A on every test. He gives you an example test a week before so you know the type of questions to study. Not to mention he's hilarious. If you're not sure if you should take one of his classes, just do it. I have never heard anyone regret it.

Easy teacher, gives you most of the answers for the test. Easy A+ if you know computers. Take him for summer, attendance isn't mandatory. Also you lots of Crash and Burns cheat on his test in that class (aka middle eastern) Don't cheat he gets really upset. Don't get the book, take NOTES, do the 2 HW assignments, and study 30min before the test.

Attendance really is mandatory because his tests are fully based off the notes. I hated CS before I took his class, but he was able to teach in such a way that anyone can understand. His silly jokes actually made it more humorous. Take him....you'll love it. I don't think he could ever have a negative review!

This was the easiest class I have ever taken. He answers every question and won't move on until everyone understands the lesson. I just showed up on days where he went over the study guide and received an A/A+ on every test.

I was terrified of stats prior to taking his class but now I am glad I did. He made STATS make sense and I can easily say that he is the best teacher at IVC. Explains everything clearly and would not continue until everyone has understood the material. You can bring hand written notes to the exams to help yourself but you won't need them. TAKE HIM.

Professor Hochwald makes class really easy! There is no hw, the only hw given are the optional ones that adds two points to your test score (if you're not already at 100%). He gives sample exam questions the week before the exams and all exams are open notes!

Seth is the best teacher I've ever had!! He keeps the class very basic and doesn't try to trick students. No homework, you don't have to show up to class, 4 tests makes up your grade. Super easy class, definitely need to take him! He tries to be funny with dumb jokes on purpose which makes the class entertaining.

Hochwald is fantastic. He takes a difficult, dry subject and makes it doable. If you have a strong algebra background (or higher), you will find this class incredibly easy. Four exams make up your grade, and you're allowed to bring a "cheat sheet" to each exam. Your lowest test score is dropped. Overall, an excellent class.

These classes are pretty tough. But then again C and C++ arent easy language. I suggest you practice programming every day. The end of the semester project really hits you. I also suggest using a different compiler that is faster than Microsoft Visual such as Dev C++. Best of luck.

Low body fat, not bad! He drinks a lot of protein shake during the classes and I guess works out like crazy. Hard to register in his classes, I made it and I'm glad!

And the final is NOT cumulative! Take him instead of a MATH 8 class!

I hated math with a passion before I took him & was dreading taking this class, but on the first day he made it so easy for me to follow and understand. He doesn't care if you show up to class or not because it will show him if you were there or not by the grade on your test. Extremely easy to follow and talk to. I highly recommend him.

A great teacher. Easy to follow, funny and interesting. He keeps the work easy, lets you use notes on his exams and makes his class very easy to pass. I highly recommend him if you are taking C, data structures or C++.

Easily one of the best instructors I've had. he understands the material can be boring and lightens the mood. His lectures are so clear that you hardly need the book. Homework is optional and provided as study material. Tests are written by him, so there's no confusion with baked-publisher's questions. An instructor that actually teaches. 350chars

Definitely take this class. He does not take attendance, he explains each lesson thoroughly, let's you use a cheat sheet for each exam, allows you to drop your lowest test score (there are 5 tests including final). Grade is based on tests, no homework. It can be boring but he is funny and you're not going to find a better stats class

He wants us to learn, he wants us to pass, he's not here to be a "gotcha" professor. I wish I was a computer science major so I could take more classes he teaches. Decent guy.

Easily THE best prof I've had anywhere for any subject. Amazing guy. Funny, charismatic, patient, and a decent human being. He makes a tough topic very easy to understand. Attendance is not mandatory, but you must get his lecture notes to do good in the class. I wish he taught all subjects! You will not regret taking this guy.

He is a really funny Professor! I enjoyed going to his class. He makes the lessons really easy to understand. He does not go at a fast pace. During lecture he even pauses for a bit to give time for people to copy the notes on the board. Best professor I have had!

It was an easy A. The tests are based on the notes and the final has the exact same questions from the previous tests. If you want an easy A, take this class. The only downside is that the whole class is him writing notes on the board which makes it boring and not interesting, specially because he tries to be funny every chance he gets.

OMG I hated math before this class but this professor made it so easy to follow and I was able to recieve a B!! I usually fail math classes! He also kept making harry potter references! Best and coolest teacher ever! TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU CAN! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! Gives you a cheat sheet for the test too so you know the formulas!

Hochwald is an excellent, funny teacher and knows what he's talking about. Hes a programmer, so he also knows how to uses the theoretical concepts he teaches in practical applications. He grades entirely on tests, which is nice because it means you're graded on understanding rather than busy work.

Learned less than I did in Loke's CS courses. Hochwald spoonfeeds students the homework solutions. We just type in what he writes on the whiteboard, run it, and feel like work was done. Loke leaves out pieces of information and challenges you to search out the answer in your notes. Hochwald gives you all the answers in lecture and you don't think.

The best professor I have ever had. He cares alot. I was looking forward to his class. Stats. is not easy but Profess Hochwald makes it easy and fun. I love him!!!

A fantastic teacher, he put the concepts into bite-sized pieces and held our hand through it. I'm not sure if stats are easy or he's just a good teacher. He's got that corny unfunny-funny thing going on which makes the class a lot of fun. Super helpful and wicked nice. I was lucky to have him as a teacher.

WOW! Best prof at IVC. I'm a first time college student and getting into his class was a miracle. I took AP stats in hs and scraped by with a mere D- I was scared to take it in college. I would not be passing stats with an A if it weren't for this class. He looks a bit like Colbert. Anybody with basic arithmetic skills can pass his class! TAKE HIM!

OMG!! This class was one of the easiest classes I've ever taken. He is funny, lets you bring in a huge cheat sheat and the best part he tells you whats on the next tests and just changes the number. A very easy class and just do good on the first 4 tests and you don't even have to take the final.

Very EASY and allows you to bring a cheat sheet for the test and basically told you what was gonna be on the test. I took his Saturday class, but it wasn't a big deal. You don't even have to buy the textbook and there is no HW. Also, he is the most funny professor I have ever had. as I would find myself laughing half the time.

One of the BEST out there!! He has Stephen Colbert look by all means!!(Just with white hair). Took his CS1 7:30AM class, and yes 7:30 in the morning is hell! If your not too familiar with computer systems/applications you will need to put in more effort but material is not too difficult. He drops lowest test, a few hw assignments. DON'T BUY BOOK- Study notes! Very funny! His sense of humor made class easier to get through. Recommend!

Seth is such a likable person. If you don't like him, then something is wrong with YOU! You're not require to attend class, but if you don't go then you won't get the material. No homework, no need to purchase the book, and no stressing out. He drops the lowest grade. He can definitely teach Statistics, so don't take it with anyone else!

3 tests and final and you can drop one of them. Gives the exact test questions with different numbers the week before and lets you bring a cheat sheet to the test. Lets you out an hour early every class. Funny and laid back.

How can you not love this guy?! If you can't pass this class, you should seriously consider special ed. Seth makes it so easy and stress free. Aced first 3 tests, didn't have to take the final, and he only uses the charts in the back of the book. So you can rent the book and copy the pages in the back and then return it!

This class was great. Got A's on all 3 of my exams. DONT BUY THE BOOK OR THE SOLUTIONS MANUAL. I bought the solutions manual for $20 and the book for $50 and i never opened either. Best professor I have ever met! He makes statistics easy and fun to learn. No homework, 4 exams of which the lowest score will be dropped. Attendance not mandatory but recommended. Do not buy the solution manual or the textbook. All you need for the exams are your notes and he reviews every exam. I wished he would teach more math classes.

Some classes that are an Easy A, you don't learn that much. However in Hochwald's class not only do you get a good grade, but you also learn a bunch about Statistics. Every IVC student should take him before they transfer or graduate.

Hochwald is the funniest professor. He basically gives all the answers to the tests the class before and lets you use your programs and notes. Easy A. Showing up is not mandatory but I recommend it.

EASIEST PROF ON CAMPUS!!! :) TAKE HIM ESPECIALLY FOR CS 1 & MATH 10, even if you don't need to! EZ GPA BOOSTER! STATS CAN BE A KILLER, BUT NOT WITH SETH!!!! I took him for MATH 30 because I thought it would be easy since he taught it but NO! I'll leave Math 30 & the rest of the CS courses to the computer nerds! LOL Plus, Seth is a computer BUFF ;)

If you aren't a math person, and you have to take Stats.... YOU HAVE TO TAKE HOCHWALD!!! I always struggled in math, but this time I got 97, 98, 100 on the 3 tests I took, so I didn't have to take the final! Textbook do not buy-- I bought it but it was a waste of $$. His way of explaining concepts are far more clear than the textbook.

Hochwald is entertaining and makes the class painless. His jokes keep an otherwise kind of boring class moving fairly quickly. Really easy class, no need to get the book because you can get an A on the test from his review.

Prof. Hochwald is really the kind of professors who want his students to succeed. His lectures are condensed from the books which contribute to the highly comprehension of students. The quizes are similar to the review problems; and it will not be too difficult to get a good grade in his class.

Super nice guy! Lays out exact format of tests in reviews but I recommend going over notes to study because he'll occasionally throw a curve ball. If you're going into research I'd recommend another instructor to gain a firmer understanding of stats but definitely recommend Seth for a passing grade. Don't have to take final if 1st 3 test scores ok.

Super easy A, it's hard to get lower. Show up only to the reviews and the tests. The reviews is exactly like the tests and he lets you have the notes during the test. Only way to get lower than an A is to make stupid number mistakes or give up on life. 3 tests and one final, the lowest of them all gets dropped. I did not even show up for the final.

Never a dull day with Mr. Hochwald, even students who aren't very good at programming can follow his pace and learn something new every day of class. So far my absolute favorite teacher on campus and I hope to take more of his classes in the future. If taking his class is an option for you, definately go for it.

Professor Hochwald is the man! His tests require a lot of material but he is extremely clear about what you should know and he makes it so easy! The tests are extremely easy and the only homework assigned are 2 really easy and quick projects at the end of the semester. He is really funny too but doesn't get annoying. Would definitely take again!

Amazing teacher, never a dull moment in his class. But make sure you come to class, as he covers a lot of material in one day. He's very clear about what will or won't be on the next exam. As long as you get the notes and study them regularly, you will pass his class with flying colors. Minimal and easy homework. Definitely taking his class again!

This is literally the easiest class computer class you will ever take. The class consists of 5 noncumulative tests which are worth 100 points each. One of tests is a take home test, so it's basically 100 points, and also you can drop the lowest test score. Attendance isn't mandatory but make ups aren't allowed.

Never a dull day with this dude! He makes a computer programming class totally interesting with his quirky personality. Always telling lame computer science jokes, which he admits are lame soon after the fact. He's funny and his class is pretty easy if you take good notes. Highly highly recommend. Cant imagine another professor for this class.

Literally, his lectures and study guide are EXACTLY the same as his exams. 3 exams plus a final, you get to drop the lowest one ( even the final). Best math teacher and best math class. Math is always the worst and this semester was such a relief. Sign up right away, class is filled up RIGHT AWAY.

Don't get the textbook. If you want to get an A, all you have to do is show up for review and test days. However, if you actually want to learn something, I'd suggest going to every lecture and being very diligent about the homework assignments. But no textbook. Hochwald's lectures are clear and entertaining. Take good notes and you'll do great.

His class consists of only lectures. He doesn't use powerpoint because he hates it so he writes all the notes on the whiteboard. All the questions on the test is things he has reviewed or taught in lecture. No surprise questions. He's hilarious and makes class super fun. I took his 7:30am class, but class was never boring.

For some reason it seems that many people love his class and although there's a somewhat minimal load of homework, this isn't quite the best class to take if you're a serious-minded CS major like me. Loke, Cuevas, or Macadam are better suggestions if you really want to learn and be motivated in accomplishing all your assignments.

At first I thought I was lucky that I was able to get into his C++ class this semester since his classes fill up quickly based on the past 'positive' reviews he gets, but after few months I actually regretted taking this class. So I don't think I'll end up past a B- at the end of the semester despite how much effort I put into it. :(

Take Rosseau at Saddleback instead since she's more reachable outside of class and you'll learn more about programming from her. Not to mention she's like the female version of Hochwald. Otherwise take Hochwald if you do like being in stuffy crowded rooms. Nothing fun and great about struggling to find an available computer desk to do classwork. :(

I skipped a lot of class since it started at 7:30am, but I still did well. Prof Hochwald is a great teacher. His lectures are easy to follow and his exams aren't bad. He pretty much did the homework for us if you showed up on the days he went over them in class. He's a fun-loving guy who makes a lot of "dad" jokes, which always lightens the mood.

He does not offer extra credit. But he clearly states the grading criteria from the beginning. It's up to you to earn an A. If you show up and take great notes, you'll get an easy A. I took his Saturday morning (3 hour) class. But he is funny and upbeat so it's not boring. He is patient and answers all questions before moving to the next step.

He is an amazing teacher for Math and I would take him again!

He's a cool guy and very entertaining, I enjoyed attending class. The exams are open note so if you at least vaguely understand whats going on and have all you're notes you'll be fine. You can drop your worst exam. If you want some CS basic understanding and an easy A take him. If you want a deeper understanding maybe take a different prof though.

If you can register for his class before it is full, then do yourself a favor and sign up. For a Saturday class, he makes the lectures fun and engaging and truly cares about the students. He allows a cheat sheet on the all 4 of the exams. Non cumulative final and will drop lowest score.

Your are graded on 3 test(drops the lowest out of the 4) with a cheat sheet. Take good notes and show up to the review days and you should have no problem getting an A on his tests. His lectures can be a little bit boring and he does make alot of corny dad jokes. Pretty good professor tho, explain things well. An easy A stats class for sure.

Your grade is made up entirely of tests, there were five tests, including the final. The lowest is dropped. His practice tests are almost identical to the tests, so do them. He does a really good job at teaching the material in a way that makes it easy to grasp. I'm a little concerned that he may have dumbed the material down too much.

I took Math 10 with Seth Hochwald. I have ALWAYS struggled in math. Statistics was my final class I needed to take to graduate. I cannot say enough good things about this class or professor! The material was applicable and understandable, and even kinda fun! Take good notes, and put in the work! Kind man, who wants students to succeed! I got a B!

doesn't take attendance, very easy to get a high grade. his lectures are incredibly clear and easy to understand. walks you through programming assignments. tests are half true/false half multiple choice, final consists of questions from previous tests (word for word). A solid choice with a great professor

Mr. Hochwald is a friendly giant the guy is like 6'4 but very corny in the like dad jokes kind of way. Very nice but if you show up to the 1st day and the review days there is no way you can't pass unless you really can't handle a cheat sheet for every test.

Prof. Hochwald is awesome! His lectures are funny, his homework assignments are easy and group-oriented (not to mention he's a lenient grader), he lets you use your notes and other resources on tests and overall makes programming fun. He's really funny, makes SATURDAY LECTURES actually fun! If you're on the waitlist, don't worry, keep on going to the class and he'll eventually add you (DON'T GIVE UP cause it's really an Easy A class). He's a mixture of hulk hogan, a minion, and Seth Rogen. He literally gives you the answers to every quiz and test; he writes them on the board. The tests are open notes and the lectures are short. He's an absolute gem and if you sit in the front row, you'll have a blast. Watch out for his null demo, it gets violent.

I love him. He's a brilliant teacher and a fungi. I had him during summer semester for CS36 and again spring semester for CS37. He was generous enough to teach me to do his null char performance... It gets me every time! I recommend sitting in the front row right in front of his table for optimal entertainment... if I'm not sitting there already.

Nice professor. He has five group project homework and tests are based on what he has written in lectures classes and study guide. Be warned though, contact your groupmates beforehand; some might have dropped the class without you knowing;all of my groupmates dropped for some reason without a single word. This is a decent class already!

Professor overheard me comparing another teacher's monotone teaching methods with Ben Stein from Ferris Beuler and thought it was about him. Awkward hilarities ensued. Still treats me no differently than any other student. Teaches with passion; comes in every day like he wants to be there, which sets tone and makes you want to show up as well.

Seth is the man! Seriously the easiest class i've ever taken. A lot of the material overlapped from data structures and it was crazy how much easier he made everything seem compared to my other prof in data structures. He explains everything in a way you can grasp it without bogging you down with too much formal definitions. HIGHLY recommend.

Dr. Hochwald is a very unique teacher. He brings a lot of spirit to classroom, which is rare in the computer science field. He does a very good job of bringing some life to a major that can at times be deadly mundane. He has a large personality which some people may find overbearing but compared to the other CS staff at IVC he is truly a godsend.

Professor Hochwald is a great guy with a good sense of humor. However, regarding this class, I found it to be a bit more challenging than I thought, but very interesting. As a result, I will be taking python and visual basic next semester as those courses will give me the basics I need to succeed in Computer Science. Great professor and nice guy.

This is my first time taking Hochwalde for two classes. I was reluctant at first because he was "too easy" and I was scared I wouldn't learn. Great professor. He is very friendly and funny teacher, so his classes are interesting. I especially liked Discrete Mathematics that was very useful. Professor recommended but did not require doing Homework for Discrete Math. However, if you do all assignments, it will be very useful. It helped me on Data Structure.

Great professor. For someone who has no background in programming he has a way of explaining things that make sense for a complete noob. If you have no background in programming, Prof. H makes things easier to understand and explains all the tech lingo. Would definitely take again for future programming classes.

I took him for cs36, cs37, math30, and math 31. He's an extremely easy professor. Getting an A in his classes is almost a given. If you really want to take care of your gpa, take him.

Make sure you show up to class, he has a different method of teaching and breaks things down so that it is easy. You do not necessarily need a textbook, you can go to the library to print the tcharts and zscore charts which you will need for class. I highly recommend showing up to his office hours for tutoring, he is very helpful.

Great class. Great professor. Teaches the material in a simple way and goes into detail on some of the applications of the concepts taught within the class. There are 5 exams and he drops one of them. Exams are straightforward.

Professor Hochwald changed my life. I took his intro to CS course many years ago. He inspired me to change my studies to CS and ignited my love for the field. My favorite memory of him was when he did his null pointer example!!! Now I am CS professor myself, and I wouldnt be here if it wasnt for him! I give my students the null ptr lecture now :)

Hochwald could've made the online class more interactive but we can't really blame him because it was a sudden switch to online and I assume he has never taught that way. An A is very doable if you read the notes he posted as all the exam questions can be found in them. I hope he makes the online classes more interactive for fall semester.

Professor Hochwald has been one of my favorite professors. His lectures are efficient, he explains things very well, and his grading his fair. Yes, the COVID-19 transition was tough, because it made the class much easier (take-home, open note tests vs in-person, closed book), and the class average was 10 points higher on those exams. Great guy.

Due to coronavirus, we transferred to online, but he only put his lecture notes on Canvas, that's a little harder for me to understand every point. After all, he is good.

Had him for both 6A and 6B. He teaches in a way that makes everything easy to learn and apply. Taking this class before or during Data Structures really helped with understanding the concepts that my DS prof wouldn't explain as well. He's a great prof and you won't regret taking him!

I loved this professor! if you show up to class and take his notes you will do great on the test! 3 tests and no homework. super laid back and caring professor. I got an A in his class and I hate math! Defiantly would take again.

Another student who took both 6A and 6B last year. Hochwald is one of the best professors I've taken. He makes class extremely fun and easy to digest. Even with the online transition, the class was made pretty easy to understand. Reviews prepped you well for the exam. If I could rate him higher I would. Take him before his class fills!

Hochwald is a very diligent professor. He very clearly explains content (sometimes overexplains), and you have to try to fail his class. I have actually taken him for 4 different classes and don't regret any of them. He has "Dad Energy" when he talks and loves telling "groaners" and doesn't care if no one laughs. Wholesome guy, glad I took him.

Clear lectures. Even though it was fully online I learned the material. He teaches well. The exam questions are similar to the question in his lectures. 4 exams and you can drop one as your lowest grade. Be sure to take this class.

I'm not finished yet with his class, but half way through I'm really enjoying it, and I have learned so much. I really like his video lectures, I find them entertaining. I feel like this class is helping me understand my other programming classes a lot. I wish this professor taught more coding classes!

His lectures are great and love his sarcasm and humor in between. There is 4 exams and will let you skip the final if you are happy with your grade you have, but either way drops the lowest grade of an exam you did. Easy A if you follow the lectures and his notes. No textbook needs you can look up online the charts needed. Take him you won't regret

I have taken 3 online classes taught by the professor. I enjoy his lectures because of not only flexible schedule, but also his organized study materials and clear ideas in teaching. Any question I emailed him gets feedbacks timely. Professor will retire in summer 2022, I am here express my appreciation and respect for his great job done for us.

Professor Hochwald's class was incredibly easy and he created a good foundation for the understanding of a CS language. However, I recommend if you are pursuing a career in CS, to practice problems outside of what he assigns in order to get the most out of his class and really strengthen your knowledge.

He is just reading the pdf he prepared at first. I never seen he show us how to code it exactly. Really easy to earn A or B. He will drop the lowest exam at last
