This professor is really great. He is very clear with what he teaches, knows how to teach and knows his stuff. He is funny and a fair grader. He keeps a good pace and you are really able to comprehend the material.
Here's a teacher that is funny and entertaining. He knows LAW and does a great job explaining it. He understands the subject matter can be tricky and will not hesitate to go slower or go back a couple of steps so everyone gets it. Fair grader.
One of the best the school has to offer. Take him if you can
Great prof. Excellent style of teaching, very articulate and clear. Exams are relatively easy because you are graded on proving a point vs. giving an exact answer. Truly enjoyed his class!
excellant teacher with great communication skills.
excellant teacher
take the class
You'll be hard pressed to find a better professor at Baruch. His teaching style is awesome to say the least. Intelligent and approachable, Lipner makes you want to come to class even though attendance is not enforced. You the man Lipner!
awesome
Great teacher!!!! Knows what he is talking about!! Can't find a better prof. at Baruch. Take him if you can!!!
i think the test is so unrelate to what he taught in the class...i guess every one got bad grade in the mid term caz everyone look so surprise when they saw the exam paper. only mid-term and a final
Funny guy. Great professor. Knowlegable in his field. Don't hate b/c you got a bad grade. (towards the comment below). You probably just can't grasp the concept of law. Listen in class perhaps b/c the prof. explains everything. If you don't know something just ask him. He is straight to the point which is good. TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is possibly the most astute and intelligent professor I have ever encountered. He disseminated lectures through a dignified aura, and knew the answers to any queries. Very respectable to students, required us to complete two projects and a midterm (open book). If you're a student who takes consistent notes, you will excel without difficulty.
Great professor - clear, concise, funny. Definitely makes everything interesting. A little bit curt in his e-mail replies (perhaps due to his lawyer nature) but very reachable and approachable. One midterm and one final - all very relevant to the class. You will enjoy having him as a professor.
this professor is the best. No question about very respectful and knowlegeable. I strongli recomend
Lipner talks out of his ass for 1 hr 15 min. He goes on a rant and goes off topic many times. You don't really learn much from him. His classes are a joke.
are you kidding me? this guy's great. you can tell he's really into the subject and wants you to know this stuff. contrary to what people say, the class is easy. no homeworks, no papers, just study before the exams. i had a great time.
Professor Lipner is the man. He made every class worth coming to and he doesn't put people to sleep. This is an interesting course and I recommend it to everyone.
This man is definitely worth the hype. EASILY the best professor I've had at Baruch, and arguably the best professor I've ever had. He's been teaching for 20+ years, but you'd never know it by his energy, interaction with students, and clarity in explaining the subject matter. Go to every class, pay attention and take notes! But you will enjoy it.
Prof. Lipner is a really great teacher. He loves what he teaches and he explains things very well. If you dont come to class, learning the material will be very difficult for you, but not impossible. His energy level is high and he is very funny. One of the best teachers i have ever had.
He is so fun and hysterical. I really enjoyd this class. It is important to come to class, otherwise you will miss out on the details. It isn't terribly necessary to read the book as long as you come to class. Sit in the front. He loves it!
Prof. Lipner is absolutely amazing. One of the best professor I've had the pleasure of learning from. I begrudgingly took the course b/c of scheduling problems and it did fulfill my int'l requirement. However, what I got FAR exceeded all of my expectations. I'm sorry, anyone who can make CIF and FOB contracts interesting is a born teacher!! A+
He is the BEST professor I've ever had. Prof. Lipner really cares about the subject he teaches. Attendance is not mandatory, but I did not see many people miss classes because he makes the lecture so interesting. Highly recommend him.
Not really clear in explaining law concepts. Cases are not easy to understand. Bunch of readings, not really a helpful professor!
The classes are very interesting, but sometimes the explanations provided are conflicting to the point that is difficult to understand what the actual rule is and what is the exception.
He has 3 undergrad courses. TAKE THEM ALL! Best proffessor in the school. He actuall Chairs the curriculum board since like 4ever! So u know he's good at teaching. He is a lawyer(which is a plus) and he knows everything about everything! U will never sleep!
Excellent
Honestly, great guy but can be intimidating by asking question then cutting you off as you take a breath to answer. He is fair however and his test are more than fair. Open notes books all you want and need! He is interested in you learning, not in torchuring you, so to me, he is a great teacher! And I really did learn a lot!!!
Destroyed my GPA. He doesn't give any grades in class so you have no idea what your final grade could be. First he lost my term paper and gave incomplete, then came up with a random grade. The classes were entertaining though.
He's a great professor! I thought I'd get a higher grade, but his tests are tricky even if they are open book. He holds your interest IF and only IF you read in advance, otherwise, he's boring, and you'll be completely lost. He goes over every case in painful detail during class. Don't ask questions, just answer the questions he asks. He likes to c
One word: Excellent! Law is a difficult subject so you need to study but he explains very well and his exams are very straight forward. The class is very interesting and entirely case based. If you like law this is the class and professor for you.
Great professor! Highly recommended. His exams aren't easy and you must understand the material to be able to answer his questions. He goes over all the cases in class and all exams are open book.
Incredible and excellent professor. He explains law very slowly and at a pace that is right for the class. His exams test if you really understand the material, which he explains very well in class. Take good notes and read the cases before class, as he goes into them in detail. Very interesting and intelligent professor. Highly Recommended!
AWESOME CLASS. I was told by another professor that his class is the closest you can get to a real law school kind of class. He made the class so interesting. You can tell he's really passionate about law from the way he talks. Buy the book. Open book midterm and final. Kinda tricky, but if you write down EVERYTHING he says, you're guaranteed an A.
the professor is great. The class was interesting. He has an impressive background and experience. You NEED to take great notes. bring a recorder. worth all the money and more.
Excellent class. The test is tough but just pay attention to everything said in class. Overall easy to pass. Felt like a real law course. His method of teaching is different. Uses real cases to illustrate the topics
He's awesome. He's real world and really knows his stuff. He will challenge you but it will be the most useful class you take in college. Seriously
Really, really good. Funny, knows his stuff, great professor.
He is a really good professor, but aa very difficult class to pass. Only midterm and final. Most people's grades in the midterm were below 60% so he gave another exam for 10 extra points! becouse people did so poorly. He teaches well but is a tough grader. DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU DON'T HAVE A REALLY GOOD AND PERSUASIVE ENGLISH.He will evaluate it.
I do not understand why people are saying that he is a good professor, if half of the class needs to drop after the midterm. If he cannot explain material well he is not a good teacher. He is very confusing about law terminology – that actually is not that difficult. His textbook is not helpful either. He is also a very bad grader.
One of the great professors at Baruch. Has a real passion for the subject material and is willing to break things down and work through them slowly. People who say this class is hard do not put in the effort. Exams (open book/notes) are tricky, but as long as you grasp the material, you're good. Amazing class.
Excellent at making it comprehensible, fun, and engaging, agreed with all positive comments! To do well, take stenographic style notes, write down as much as you can. That will get you much further than reading and re-reading the book. 1 open midterm, open final, no participation grade or group assignments. Great way to nail int'l bus requirement!
Nice guy, but can't teach. He goes on about the cases, but never specified the law or explained how it applies to it. Half the class dropped after the midterm. Throughout his class, I am never sure what grade I got. There is also no notes/slides, so come to class to take notes or fail. The textbook is not helpful. I would not recommend him.
Great class! You learn a lot without even trying because he breaks everything down for you! Tests are open book, though the tests can seem quite tricky due to their open-ended nature. Learned more about business and law in this single class than I did in all the generic required classes combined. Fun and engaging lectures.
this is the first time i post Rate my professor, and the reason i do this is because its worth to post about him online. There are so many classes that you can take to get a good grade, but once you are in law field, i believe that you want to learn rather than just a good grade. Ifyou want to learn, just take him. nomatter what grade i got, imhappy
Excellent professor. He is really clear in his explanations. I came into the class not knowing a thing about international business and he makes it interesting; tries to incorporate aspects of business into his lectures. I did not like him picking on students to answer questions but it does keep students up to date on their readings. Excellent prof
Amazing, professor. Experienced lawyer who really brings real world stations and incorporates them into the class work he assigns. There are papers and group projects, just address his objectives and you should be fine. Book on negotiations was amazing, test was long but fair. Tries to generate discussion in class, participate! Tov Meod!
Simply put, he's the man! Thanks Prof. Lipner for a great semester!
Very intelligent professor. Teaches the class in a very business like manner. You will have to come to class though because a lot of things you will need to know will no be in the text book. The text book itself is focused on negotiations techniques and strategies rather than legal matters. By the way, professor is very flexible.
Funny guy. Very nice. Flexible. Make sure you record the lectures. Especially his INSTRUCTIONS. Keep memos short, simple, and bulleted and FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS! He doesn't like to read and takes points off for long memos. Lets you rewrite. READ THE BOOK! Remember. you are being graded on negotiation skills. Don't try to write perfect contracts.
Very very nice prof. Everyone likes him. But you won't learn what you came to learn. NEGOTIATION class: taught CONTRACTS most of the semester. No negotiating in class. No practice in class. No feedback. No instruction. Just book. Beware of group projects. Funny, flexible but doesn't teach the course title. Likes to lecture about contracts.
Professor is great, he often lacks specifics in what he's looking for and may change criteria between assignment and due date. He always lets you rewrite, is fair, and you have to work hard not to get a decent grade. 1
I thought this professor was funny. Clearly loves law, very animated. His lectures are what the tests are based on. Write down everything he says, better yet record him. Textbook is a must. Fair professor, lets you redo and likes everything short and simple. READ the book. There are cookies to be found. This class is very Lecture heavy.
Be forewarned this class is not about negotiation, it's mostly break downs of contracts. He's nice, though when it comes to negotiating his advice more or less is to split it down the middle, which any idiot can do. He may make you slightly more aware of how to read a contract, though he will not make you a better negotiator. Save your money; read.
Prof Lipner is literally the best professor I have ever had at Baruch. The first third of the course is entirely focused on negotiation while the rest is focused on DISPUTE RESOLUTION which involves contracts. No exams, four memos focused on material learned in class + he allows you to redo most of them after he reviews the assignment. TAKE.
I took Lipner's Internet Law class in the Spring of 2017. It was the best class I have ever taken. Lipner is incredibly knowledgeable and so articulate that you will learn SO much about the developing field of law in the internet age. A few memo assignments based on the lectures, no exams, no group projects, no textbook...100% have to take.
Prof. Lipner should be an example of what a professor should be like. Gotta read and pay attention lecture heavy class.
Challenging exams, but outstanding professor. Take detailed notes on all his lectures and you'll be fine. If you pay attention you are going to learn so many things.
A professor who knows what he's talking about for sure. No powerpoint, strictly lecture from beginning to end, so participation would only help you really. One memo assignment, a midterm & final (open book) that are based on his lectures! Take notes! Textbook is mandatory only to know about the cases before class. Enjoy!
This was one of the best classes I've taken at Baruch. No powerpoint or textbook, just lecture. 5 memo assignments that are only a page or two, and no tests or projects. You have to show up and participate, otherwise you can't write the memos. He cares that the work is done correctly so if you need an extension he doesn't take points off.
This is definitely a class you should take to boost your GPA. This professor cares about your grade and will allow you to re-write your papers for a better grade. You have to attend the lectures to do well. NO EXAMS! JUST 4 OR 5 SHORT 2 PAGE MEMOS.
Best professor at Baruch. Smart, interesting and extremely competent
A very intelligent professor with extensive experience in the practice of law. Sometimes the lectures get dry, but ask him an insightful question, and you will be rewarded with charming old-school wit. Definitely a solid choice - just be sure to work on your writing as he is a stickler for it. He always calls on people throughout class, speak up.
Professor Lipner is fantastic. One of the very best professors at Baruch, he makes even the most traditionally dry subject matter into an interesting and dynamic class discussion. His lectures always leave you feeling like you've learned a lot in just one session, and when you need help understanding a concept, he rephrases and helps you get there.
This review is for taking both LAW 3113 and LAW 3108. Amazing professor. The memos are hard but if you take the time to connect the concepts you will do well on them. Participation is important to him, and he will even call people out. Fun class. He will even give opportunities to redo memos if needed. He likes to be asked significant questions.
There is no clear prompt for each assignment. This class was draining. Not only does he do things last minute but he waited till October to give the first assignment and piled things up. Each assignment was worth too much and he says messed up things like those who got good grades are the ones who TRY we all tried but he gives like 17/25 to all.
Professor Lipner is the best! His lectures are interesting and you will learn how to be a better writer and speaker. You'll be making a mistake if you don't take him.
To be honest I never though I would learn so much from this calss. Lectures are always interesting and make me want to come to class, unlike other professors take attendance so you have to. Trust me take professor Lipner and you won't regret.
Easy class. We had 4 memos total, 3 of which were a page and the last one 2 pages. For your memos be as blunt as possible!
Lectures were enjoyable and the work was manageable. He explains everything clearly and thoroughly. One of the top professors I've had at Baruch. Lots of respect for him.
Took Prof. Lipner in Spring 2020. There were only three papers and we were given about 1-2 weeks to write it. He doesn't use PowerPoints so you need to take notes and read the textbook. He goes at a moderate pace and keeps the lectures interesting. By far my favorite teacher at Baruch!
I am about to graduate Baruch and I can honestly say that in my 4 years here- he was the worst professor I have ever taken. Apart from the obvious favoritism, he is not clear on what he wants in the memos and it completely disorganized. DO NOT TAKE.
One of my favorite professors throughout my time at Baruch. His style might not be for everyone, but if you are actually at all interested in the subject matter you will probably enjoy him too. You definitely should pay attention in his class because very little of the material is covered elsewhere. I learned a lot and got an A, perfect!
Prof. Lipner is a professor who is passionate about what he does. He gets the class involved and interested in the topics he talks about. You will definitely learn a lot in this class.
Good lectures hes a great Professor
Prof. Lipner is an incredible professor and one of the best, if not the best at Baruch. His lectures are full of energy and make you interested to come back next class. Everything you learn is also relevant and will be applied in your career. I highly recommend this class and any class with Prof. Lipner.
The nicest professor I've ever had. Teaching is his passion and that's a bless for his students. I took LAW3111, and I enjoyed every class. He is the best professor in Baruch by far.
Professor Lipner is caring to his students, and his lectures were full of energy, which will make us long to learn a lot. Also, he taught and explained in detail each case. This course has five memos and limits it to one page per memo. His feedbacks helped to rewrite them. Therefore, take note, participate a lot, be eager and get an A.
Super nice and easy to follow along with his lessons. takes time to clarify and gives good feedback on assignments. taking notes is a good idea!!!!! not alot of outside reading and NO HW.
Just awful waste of your time.
very cool and simple professor. he is super blunt and talks very straight forward, he doesnt like beating around the bush and a very nice guy
Professor Lipner is one of the best professors I've taken at Baruch. Not only is he very passionate about the topic, but he also makes the lectures enjoyable and interactive. It's not your typical "read off the slide" professor, but he actually gives stories and examples that help you remember! He also gives great feedback on his assignments!
I really enjoyed this class. I would have loved to have taken in earlier in my MBA journey. If he has an in-person class I would highly recommend taking him (I had him online - was still a great class). He's so passionate about law and cares about his students. Good guy too.
This professor has favorites, if he doesn't like your writing or your personality he will try to fail you.
Still in the mid of the semester but love him. I never had a class this easy, informative, and enjoyable. No hw no test just some reading that could be done 15mins before. easy memo just follow HIS way of writing. he literary tells how it should be done.
Anyone that takes this course just for the sake of a requirement is going to suffer. The material is very dense and there aren't many chances to earn your grade. If you're a nerd about tech law or are interested in startups, the knowledge you get is more valuable than gold. Lectures are tight but don't be afraid to ask questions.
He is a cool professor a little high strung at times too lol. The class was easy and enjoyable. No tests and quizzes, just reading and memos but the memos are heavily graded so do not slack on reading and paying attention to lectures. He basically tells you how the memos should be written and formatted and gives feedback for improvement.
There are only 3 assignments in this class: 3 business memos. There are unclear instructions on memos and the feedback isn't too great. For the first 2, he lets us redo them, but it seems like he only wants what he considers to be the right answers, so it is hard to get them done right the first time. Needs to be a little more lenient on grading.
3 memos are all of the graded parts during the semester. It has vague instructions and should be written the way he prefers. Unless you will get a low grade on it. There are no slides or any other organized information in class so you have to read the materials and just go to class for context. Maybe it was just not my style of class.
If you are not a very good writer but you want to received a easy A don't take him. This is a class that you need to work HARD and very focus on his lecture. There's no additional notes in bb so make sure you attend his class and understand the material. I would recommend to people who really want to learn something about law.
He is the type of professor who demoralize students to drop the course. He will not tell you until the end of the semester. He will never care for your situation. He teach for money not to help the students. One of the worst professor at Baruch. Do not take him unless you wanna ruin your college life.
Awful
This guy will try hard to fail you if you ate not his favorite. He will try his level best to fail you in his class. STAY AWAY from him.
harsh critic
It was an enjoyable class and loved the lectures, but he is a harsh grader. If you are looking for a GPA boost this class is not the one for that.
you're based off 3 memos and 3 quizzes which are 5 true/false only have 5 minutes to do it. if you don't participate don't even bother taking him bc he will call on you. very tough grader
Harsh critic on memos, you can resubmit each one except for the 3rd and final memo. Quizzes are T/F and based on lectures. Professor has favorites but as long as you participate you should be fine.
Im doing good in his class currently but he is a very harsh grader and will degrade you in front of the class. very discouraging and is heavy on having favorites.
Do not take him unless you wanna ruin your GPA.
Great Professor! Please make sure you attend his classes because all the content from the quizzes and the memos will be taken from what he says in class. Do the reading of the texts he assigns and follow the lecture. I found it very interesting and taught me a lots. He is a great professor and very sympathethic. Quizzes are easy. Take him.
GPA killer. Makes you feel dumb in front of the class on purpose. He gives 3 quizzes and 3 memos. Quiz are 5 true false questions which are fairly easy but as for his memos are not the same. He is a very tough grader and has a specific type of writing style he likes and if you don't do that you won't pass his class. (btw you wont know until graded)
Professor Lipner is a cool guy, very passionate about law and teaching, his class consists of 3 memos, 3 quizzes, attendance and participation grades, and extra credit and memo re-submissions to boost your grade. Not an easy class whatsoever and does require a lot of work, however, as long as you read, participate, and show interest you'll do fine.
He is an amazing professor, the best one I have had at Baruch. It is not an easy class but you get so much out of it and honestly whatever he does is for his students, he truly cares for the people that care about learning and making an effort. If you are there constantly, taking notes and paying attention you will do great!
The feedback on work is actually TERRIBLEEEE! He is so annoying and always pitting everywhere when he talks. There's no test or quizzes so your grade is made up of these memo assignments that he is terrible at giving feedback on.
He's a good professor and his class is interactive you learn a lot. He's tough on grading memos but he means the best for his students, the quizzes are easy peasy. Do the readings, show up to class, take notes, and you'll learn valuable stuff. Very passionate about law and easy to learn from if you're willing.
Professor Lipner is truly a distinguished educator whose lectures are both captivating and intellectually stimulating. He fosters a dynamic environment, engaging all students and encouraging thoughtful exploration of ideas. An exemplary "old school" professor, I would highly recommend his courses and take another with him without hesitation.
I loveeee him. He is the most amazing professor ive ever met in the college. He is so inspiring and educated. Class is very hard however he is amazing and i actually learned lot of things. He is so attentive he even asked me about the situation in my country. RESPECT. He really is an amazing person and professor.
Don't get me wrong—he is amazing as a human, but the lectures can get boring. I wouldn't recommend taking this class unless you're required. He is an extremely tough grader; he does not provide clear instructions for what he wants for his memos/presentations. It could easily be an unnecessary GPA killer, IMO. My first time getting a B- in writing.
Professor Lipner's class is challenging but rewarding. Attendance is mandatory, and he has a strict grading style. However, engaging with the material and using resources like unstuckstudy can help you succeed. Overall, a worthwhile course for diligent students.
My reviews are getting deleted for trying to help other students with their selections for the upcoming semester. This makes sense for his high rating. This professor gives unclear suggestions on the memos which are a HUGE percentage of your grade. I understand he doesn't like phones out but he screamed at the class while slamming the table.
Professor Lipner is the best. He is able to teach without using slides, demonstrating his deep knowledge in the subject of law. Your writing and communication skills will see a huge improvement. Your full commitment is required if you want a good grade.
You ever get one of those professors that you just want to keep taking? Yeah Professor Seth Lipner holds that position in my heart. I took his Law 3111. Loved it so much I took it another class. I learned Law through the eyes of someone caring and awesome. He makes me want to make him proud by becoming successful and then telling him about it.
Great professor! He's very clear about what he expects in assignments and gives detailed feedback. Participation really matters in this class, and it helps your grade a lot. He's also available outside of class if you need support or clarification. Attendance isn't mandatory, but it definitely helps. If you put in the effort, you'll do well!
I enjoyed this class, you get detailed feedbacks on your first memo which you can then rewrite for a good grade. The discussions in class about the court cases were interesting and Prof. Lipner is eager to answer questions that you may have. I think as long as you show interest and be engaged in his lectures, you will do well.
I don't know who's writing these reviews but he's absolutely the worst professor at Baruch. I thankfully passed but I knew people who's gpa tanked bc of him. he has a lot of favoritism and is rude. he randomly picks and if you don't know, he'll insult you so if you want to ruin your gpa and be insulted in front of the class take him.
Talks over students and cuts them off then complains no one is participating. Assigns 50+ pages of his personal textbook a week, treats you like a law student and expects you to know all the correct jargon right away. Attendance is super important; 20% and 3 assignments worth 20/20/40 % each. Save your gpa & run away!
Just don't. He will call on you randomly and if you don't know the answer, he degrades you in front of everyone. Save your gpa.
