he's rad!
Seth keeps things simple. I wholeheartedly recommend him. Its like having a friend teach you. If you go to his office hours, he is very helpful.

very laid back and super easy to talk to. it's like having your buddy teach you. he's very helpful, esp during office hours. he's pretty detail oriented and can be a stickler about docking points for little mistakes, but what math teacher isn't? i highly recommend this guy.
Nice, but boring. Going to his class is like drinking a bottle of nyquil. I would reccomend not talking any of his classes.
Seth Nuckolls is an amazing professor. I am horrible at understanding math, and I always left his lectures with a good understanding of the concepts. He is open to meeting with students during office hours. The homework isn't ever super long, and he answers homework questions the next day. Overall, I'm SO thankful he was my math proff!
He is very knowledgeable when it comes to this class. However, he is extremely boring...especially at 8 in the morning. At times I was tempted to just leave to keep from killing myself. I would suggest that you don't take this class unless you're really into math.
seth is great. easy class, too. just do the homework. going to isnt even necessary. just read the book, ask him questions if you have any and he will do a great job of explaining it. very laid back. one of the easiest classes i've taken at western
Seth is awesome! He is really helpful and if you don't understand something in class he makes plenty of time to see you. He is super clear about what he expects and he gives you a study guide before each test with review questions. I'm definitely not a math person but he made it really easy for me to understand.
I am terrible at math, but he is my favorite professor so far, is very enthusiastic and will answer even the dumbest questions clearly and help you understand it without making you feel dumb. I really can't think of a better way to teach of subject like math a better way than he does.
This class seemed a little fast paced at first but it turned out to be not bad. Seth had very good ways to explain if someone was not able to understand right away!
Seth does a great job teaching. Come to class everyday and you will have no problem getting a good grade is this class. It feels like your friend is teaching you. Ladies, his amazing hotness will make you love this class even more than you already will!
Overall, Seth is a great prof. He is really organized and knows what he is talking about. He explains things really well and grades pretty fair. If you can take him!
Seth is one of the most fair, helpful professors i've had so far. There are 5 exams.. he doesn't curve but he gives a lot of partial credit. lectures were a little rushed because the class period is only an hour, but he tries to make it as easy/clear as possible. i'd recommend him!
I am horrible at math but this class ended up not being anywhere as bad as I imagined. Seth made the class so much easier just because of how he taught the class. He is by far one of the best professors I have had so far, I would highly recommend taking any math class from him!
Wow Seth made this class a lot easier than most teachers would have made it to be. I would definitely take another math class from him. He tries to make sure that everyone understands the subject. His tests are really fair giving lots of partial credit so. Just don't say 'Sure" in his class.
Seth is great at giving clear explanations in his lectures and is always willing to give extra help when needed. I also felt that his tests were mostly straightforward and not too difficult if you attend class and understand the material.
Seth is a good teacher, although it is very easy to fall asleep to his lectures. He explains concepts very well, and will help you if help is needed. His tests are watered down a bit. He just cares about the concepts you learn. Again, he is highly recommended if you have trouble getting through math.
Very fast paced and hard to understand. I'm a very engaging student and need a dialogue in order to stay interested, which helps me learn. He barely talks with us, it's mostly him just getting excited about math and rushing through everything. He is good to help in his office. Do not take him if math is difficult/boring for you.
Seth is an awesome prof. I am not a huge fan o math, but he made the concepts very clear and was happy to help during office hours. I would definitely take a class from him if you have the chance
Seth seems very excited about teaching and he really knows his stuff. He has a relatively quick pace but will slow down if you ask him to. Also, he focuses ALOT on the overall concept, so homework can be confusing at times when he only did one example in class.
I HATE math. That said, Math was very bearable this quarter cause of Seth. A few more examples would've been nice, but he was fairly easily to understand, prepared, flexible. He tries to relate the material to real life, which us GUR-getters appreciate. If I had to take another math course, for some reason, I'd want it to be with Seth.
Great teacher, very clear and therefore easy to understand. Fair test grading and passionate about his subject. Would take again if possible, I wish he wasn't leaving!
Seth is such a hottie! I DEFINITELY recommend visiting him during his office hours. Am I right ladies? Also, he is a very good teacher.
terrible. doesnt teach.
okay so in general I HATE math, and Math 112 with Seth was the bomb! I have never had a good math teacher and never had anything explained to me. He is so nice and very helpful, i got everything in this class and if you do need help, he goes through everything thoroughly during office hours...hands down the best most awesome math teacher i ever h
I was lucky enough to have Seth for 124 and 125. He is a very clear and enthusiastic teacher. He is good about going over trouble problems in class from the homework and often lets us keep our assignments an extra day. He is in tune to the understanding level of the class and always available to help. Also hes funny! Great teacher!!
:( I don't know what to say...I really disliked this class...
granted, I had taken calculus in high school, precalc was mostly a more in-depth review for me. Seth was one of the best math teachers i've had, he gave good clear examples, and answered questions from students thoroughly. The tests were very fair, just be sure to come to/pay attention in class, and do the homework.
Math 114 is an awfully hard course, but Seth makes it fun and easier to understand. He's great at giving clear, slow-paced lectures and is always available for extra help and wants his students to do well. Super funny prof. Will go over answers to homework on the board in class at will and assignments are due 2 days after day assigned. Great prof.
Taking this class was an awful experience.
I hated this class. I attended every class and even went to his office hours and he failed me. Whenever I met him, he didn't know how to explain anything. It has been over a year and I am still pissed about it. Boring, nerdy, unhappy guy. His lectures made me want to stab my eyes out. Don't register for one of Seth's classes.
torture...permanent C+ on my transcript. :(
Although 114 is not an easy course, Seth makes it as clear and straightforward as possible. He is very helpful and welcomes students to ask questions in class and during office hours. He takes a few homework questions before each class. Like any 50 minute math class, the lectures are fast-paced, but the information is graspable.
Seth is an amazing teacher!! He made math interesting with different example problems (political, ethical, etc) and kept it fun. I can't wait to take another class from him! The class wasn't too hard, just do the homework, show up and ask questions when you need help. He is completely willing to help in any way he can.
SETH IS THE BEST MATH TEACHER EVER. End of story. He is so nice and so there for help. His lectures are simple and clear, never covering too much material at a time. This is all coming from a person who loathed math in high school. Take him if you get a chance!
Seth taught our math 99 class and trust me it was hard. You had to work for grade every bit through the course and now that I'm taking my next math class, it all was all for the best. Seth is very smart, nice, try's to be funny, and is always there for help. I'll give him about an 8/10
His style didn't work for me.It was a little too scattered. I tried everything to pass this class but nothing worked. Seth's office hours weren't super helpful for me but he did try to be available. It was frustrating when he told me I was wasting my time spending hours in the tutoring center. Overall, he wasn't right for me.
Seth is awesome! I hated math in high school and never saw any progress and was constantly a C student. After taking a gap year in math I thought I'd have a tought time, but in his class, I saw myself gradually improving. Definitely recommend him.
This class was difficult, but still manageable. I really like his teaching style; he goes at a swift, yet reasonable pace and answers students' questions to the best of his ability. Had I attended the class more regularly and done all the assignments I would have received a better grade in this class.
Seth is okay. He is a little rude and not easy to approach for help. He comes into class late. His lectures seem to be fairly lengthy resulting in many examples to refer to when doing homework. However, his attitude during lecture is inhospitable. I highly recommend staying away from him and find another professor for the course your interested in.
Seth is a great math teacher, and this is coming from someone who hates math. He wants you to succeed, and will always answer your questions. But the course is very difficult, I worked hours a day, and still received a D. Go to class every day to prevent falling behind. But he's a very fair grader.
He is a decent enough teacher. He explains stuff and is open for office hours. but he often writes things incorrectly in equations which gets really confusing when you are trying to lean, also if you talk during his class he get PISSED
By far the worst teacher ever!! He goes through lectures way too fast, only gives you 15 minutes to go over homework problems that people were having. So if he doesn't get to it then good luck. His tests don't reflect what he's taught. I've learned more about Calculus on the Internet then what he's taught in class. Stay away!
Seth's class is great if you're actually interested in learning, not just getting a good grade. His lectures are clear and understandable, but tests are generally harder than what was seen in homework or lectures. He focuses heavily on the overall concepts, so the tests force you to think outside the box. That being said, I learned a ton.
Seth is a GREAT teacher. He is very helpful in his office hours. In class he really goes over the concepts well, and explains them very clearly. Yes, he does go pretty fast in lecture, so you do have to keep up a little, but me being a math minded person, wasn't too hard at all.
Great teacher. The material is explained very well in a way that's easy to understand. He explains the intuition behind all the concepts as well. Definitely the best math teacher I have had.
Nuckolls is probably the raddest teacher I've had. His lectures are fantastic, and although he never smiles, he's hilarious. Made calculus so much better.
Best math professor I've ever had. He is exceptionally well-prepared for class, and heavily emphasizes the logical consistency behind the ideas he is teaching. It sometimes feels more like a philosophy class than a math class. Lots of homework, but not unnecessarily so. It's fast paced, you learn a lot, and he's worth taking whenever possible.
Really difficult class already, but Seth moves even faster than the other 118 classes. He's good at explaining things but he goes over them very quickly and you will be expected to know them by the next class.
I took this class a couple years back with him and did really awful I just didnt learn a lot from him. He moves quickly so if you dont learn well from lectures your left having to read a lot of the book and its lacking compared to what he wants you to know on the tests. I retook the class and got a B; Instructors make a difference.
He doesn't give quizzes so you grade is solely based on tests and homework. He has a very fast paced teaching style and goes into less detail as the quarter goes on. About half of the students dropped out by the time we had taken three tests.
His lectures were clear and all the quizzes followed along his lectures, however his exams were always very tricky and worded strangely. The class average for one of our exams was below 60%. I would avoid him at all costs.
I can sincerely say that Seth's classes have been the best math courses I've taken in college. The lectures are fun and fast-paced, the tests are fair (although difficult), and he tells great stories. The course is hard but trust me, it is 100% worth the effort. Take Seth's class if you have the opportunity you won't regret it!
Made his lectures super clear which was necessary because he's a tough grader with a tough subject. By attending almost every class and doing every hw assignment I was able to do well in this class. He goes through most problems in class step-by-step and as long as you payed attention you could keep up.
Seth's lectures are very good but do not necessarily connect to the homework. His tests are very hard, and he takes basically no credit if the class does poorly. One exam had an average of 40% which he eventually curved to a 60%. You can drop one exam if you do well on take home quizzes.
Seth is a good professor. We did have one test with a very low average which made it easy to get frustrated with him but at the end of the day he's always willing to help. His tests are tough but if you conceptually understand the material you'll be fine. The take home quizzes help clarify things a lot and will save your grade if you fail a test.
Seth does not assign HW problems that connect to his lecture or his exams. Exams are similar to lecture, but incredibly hard. At the end of the term, not a single student received an A in the class. Averages are very low and he doesn't curve except one exam where the average was 40% and he curved it to 60%. You must attend class if you want to pass
PAY ATTENTION to his lecture, he uses a lot of nonstandard phrases that will then show up on the tests and be really confusing if you didn't memorize their meanings beforehand.
I have mixed feelings for Seth. As a person, I really like him. He's very helpful and cares. Very visual teaching style. I'm a quick learner with math, but I had a hard time in this class. He often jumped all over the board and did overly complicated examples instead of explaining the basics. Excessive homework and difficult tests.
He is very clear and easy to understand. Super helpful. 1010!!! Sometimes he spends too much time on one topic which makes class go by slower, but I guess its just for clarity and understanding. Go to class, it's only 50 minutes, and you're paying for it!
Seth is great. I'm not great at algebra and he made it easy to understand. His lectures are really clear and makes sure that nobody has questions before he moves on to the next question. I want him to teach all my math classes forever. Make sure you do every homework and go to class every day!
Seth just talks so fast you have to write a hundred miles an hour just to understand the basics. You might as well just read the book. Then he gives you tests that are worded so absurdly that you just sit there without a clue on what to do. If you ask him to clarify it doesn't help much either. I hope I can pass this class with a decent grade.
Super nice guy who is very passionate about math as a whole subject, but his teaching style just didn't work well for me. He oftentimes over-complicated subjects and wasn't always clear on what we needed to understand. Always answers questions asked in class and very helpful at office hours, fast test grader as well.
Very passionate about math and extremely knowledgeable. Has a unique way of presenting topics that keeps me engaged. If you put in the effort he will go to bat for you. I have been to his office hours and he is always very helpful. He offers points back on tests, usually 10% of the total score. He truly wants his students to succeed. 1010!
I'm not sure I would recommend Seth unless you are already strong in math. He is a nice guy, very passionate about math and gives good examples, but goes over things really quickly with little explanation, & tests are really tough. He's just not very clear about what's on the tests & there are no study guides. Get ready to WORK for a passing grade.
Seth is great! He's pretty chill and funny. I've had him twice now, I like his teaching style. He is super helpful only you if ask for it, and if you go to his office hours. Take good notes, a lot of his test questions come from there. He does talk pretty fast though.
He was funny and made himself available. I appreciated his way of explaining things
Good and helpful. Tests can be tough but he lets you re-answer one of the questions which is very helpful.
Cool dude, he makes everything applicable. Must read your book and doesnt make it easy but the homework is spot on with the exams.
Very helpful when you go in to his office hours. There is homework every night, but is only graded on whether you did it or not. Tests are hard but directly relate to all the homework so it's helpful to do the homework every night. Very fair and clear in direction and expectation. The course is difficult but he gives you what you need to pass.
Lectures were confusing, scattered & hard to follow. This math has A LOT of vocab & content to cover. Test avg.'s were 50% he gave 5-10pts back for test corrections, which really helped. But he covered too much content & did not explain well at all. I retook this class w/ Megan Deeney & she was WAY better at teaching 204. Don't take it with seth!
Confusing, very scatted, and overall hard to follow as things got more complex. He likes using a different set of terms then the book so it's often hard to find later on. While there is a homework grade, it's only 8%, and only 4 tests make up the rest. Tests that you can't regain any points from, or even learn from, as we often just skip th review.
Seth knows what he's talking about. Only problem is sometimes he only knows one way to talk about it, and can't provide an alternate way to learn the material if you don't get his way. However, he is extremely helpful in office hours and the material on his tests is usually very relevant to what he talks about in class.
This class is really vocab heavy - Seth makes this even more challenging by using his own special vocabulary terms that can get confusing really fast. He didn't do a good job at explaining some of the essential topics in the class, which made comprehension of more nuanced ideas more difficult. He's nice enough, but hold out for a better teacher!
Nice guy, incredibly tough grader. Class average on the first exam was a solid 60. I studied hours upon hours before each test, still only scored mid 70s. Even worse, I took it during summer quarter. His class is the only B I've received in the last 2 years of pre-engineering, and it was my only class that quarter. His office hours are your friend.
I hate math, especially calculus. I'd put it off for as long as I possibly could. Seth expects a lot of work from the student, and goes a little fast in class, but is open to questions. He is accessible outside of class in person and email. Like any math class, if you spend a couple hours every night on homework and take good notes, you'll do fine.
Awful. By the end of the quarter more than half the class had dropped because Seth was so unclear and couldn't explain multi-variable calculus. Class averages on tests usually hovered around 50-60%, so it didn't really matter that one got dropped in the end. Also, he assigns/collects insane amounts of homework that are due next day. AVOID HIM!!!
Seth was an awesome professor! The class material was difficult but he made it a lot more tolerable. Always knew what he was talking about and rarely ever made a mistake during lecture.
He tends to go over notes in class pretty fast, but if you practice then you're going to be fine. A lot of the material requires practice. You have to put in effort if u wanna do good. homework on average only about 3-5 questions. He's a tough grader when it comes to exams. Don't forget variables, make sure to SHOW YOUR WORK! 4 exam drop lowest 1
Math 115 is a very hard class, that being said I think Seth does a really great job of teaching the material. His lectures were always clear and concise. If you go to class everyday and do the homework, you should be fine.
Seth wasn't the best teacher. He goes really fast during the lecture and isn't really that clear, he just kind of assumes everyone knows what he's trying to say. He also has some really annoying habits that got on my nerves throughout the quarter so if you're easily annoyed by little things don't take him! He means well, but just isn't that great.
He's awful.
This was my second time taking Math 114 and I definitely prefer Seth over my previous professor. There's homework due every day and a couple of exams (the exam with the lowest grade is dropped).
Really good at teaching math, great at answering questions, explains how the math works.
Seth is a great professor. His class (Integral Calc) was also the hardest class I've ever taken. He will test on the more theoretical/graphical side of the content, which was difficult for me in the beginning. His tests are extremely challenging, but he does provide everything in his lectures and in his chapter goals that you need to succeed.
Seth is a great teacher, but you have to put in some work to know what he expects. He puts learning goals on canvas, and if you check yourself against those it really helps. Most of the grade comes from the tests though so be prepared for them. He was accessible a lot out of class in the form of office hours so definitely go if your having trouble.
Seth was good at explaining all the concepts. The exams covered concepts from the homework, so do the homework and the exams will be easy. He also drops the lowest exam grade and does test corrections. Overall, a pretty standard math class.
MATH 204 is the beginning advance math where you learn less about calculation and more about explaination and proof. Seth did a really good job at explaining in the lecture, but his exam is pretty random. You should learn about each chapter before coming to class. Also, your grade depends on exams and final and these weight alot.
I took Math 125 with Seth in 2017 and Highly recommend him! I have struggled with math classes my whole life, this will be the first Math class I have passed on the first try and it is all thanks to Seth's visual lecture style. Also really makes it a point to show just enough back round knowledge so you can understand what is happening.
Seems like a boring dude. Homework was only worth about 8% and the rest were exams. Although we had test corrections, that didn't help at all. He always stays even after his time is up, making me late to my other classes. He's a REALLLLYY TOUGH GRADER, VERY POOR at explaining and exams are SUPER random, if you really need this class, AVOID HIM!
Seth is not a bad teacher however I wish his class had more structure. Simply numbering problems would make notes clearer. I understand with linear algebra there is a lot of conceptual work so often there are not specific problems. But it would be nice to see test like problems in class instead of on the test. Very Hard Grader so be careful.
Seth is a good guy, but he makes you work for your grade. If you spend an average of two hours a night on the material you will do fine. He expects you to pick up the material quickly - there is a lot to learn. Keep practicing and you'll do fine.
Seth Nuckolls was a hard professor. His exams were brutal and I barely squeaked out of class with a B. His lectures are confusing and it is often difficult to follow his logic. He often doesn't have headings for notes, so you end up becoming lost and left wondering what you just learned. I had about 2-3 hours of homework a night.
Professor Nuckolls was there to teach me Elementary Linear Algebra, and, in the end, he taught me Elementary Linear Algebra. He wasn't too charismatic, his lectures fell a bit flat, but all the information was there. I learned as much from the book as I did from him. Overall, kinda eh.
Approx 82% of your grade is based on exams. Small mistakes on these exams lead to huge drops in points. Most tests that I walked out believing I'd passed resulted in fails. The worse scores I've ever received in any class and also the most work I've put into any class. You can put 4+ hours in EVERY DAY and STILL FAIL with this guy. Poor "teaching".
Math 124 is a hard class, if you don't apply yourself you're not going to do well no matter who your professor is. Seth's lectures are easy to understand and is great at answering questions. Come to class and keep up on your HW and you'll be fine! His exams are tough but the problems are almost identical to what he does in class.
Seth's exams were HARD. I spent so much time on homework, studying for exams, and in office hours, but only received 67%. I honestly feel as though I learned more from the tutors than him. His exams are ridiculous, on one question I got every answer correct, but got less than half the points because my explications were "too similar to proofs".
So far, C in one class and a D in another; never done this bad in math class before. Very accessible outside class, but passing tests means doing more HW/study than you can begin to imagine. Focuses on theory with little to no method, leaves you to figure out best way to implement; better in long run, but a hassle to do in the timeframe of a class.
Statistically, 1 out of every 10 people in the class will fail. Seth knows this and does his best to help, but in the end, its up to you. Show up to class daily and do the homework, it's not that tricky. Tests are based around homework questions, and the lowest score is dropped. I got an F the 1st time through and an A the 2nd, don't be me.
Avoid like the plague. Intensely tough grader, and their is little correlation between homework material and exam material. You drop one exam and one test correction but overall they do little to help your grade considering the first two tests had an F average. Finally, he seems to lack a solid grasp of how well students understand the concepts
Seth gives a ton of homework and his tests are extremely difficult. Also, he moves extremely fast in his lectures and doesn't go back and make sure the class understands. It is obvious he knows the material very well, but he doesn't do the best job of conveying it to his students.
Avoid. Unless you're already have a good understanding in math, this professor goes pretty fast and leaves the class feeling overwhelmed at the end of every lecture. The tests are extremely harsh as well and there's homework every night.
Great guy, great teacher.
Seth is a good guy, and I'm sure is an effective professor to some students. I, however, am not one of those students. Do NOT take him unless you are very math-inclined, have a strong foundation, and can teach yourself some things. He makes himself very available outside of class, but I just couldn't get on board with his teaching style.
Do not under any circumstances even consider taking any Math course with Eric. He has the driest lectures and is incapable of giving a clear, coherent lesson. This guy would find a way to make 1+12 boring and complicated
Nice guy, not a great teacher
Seth is really good at giving multiple examples of a concept and describing it in different ways. Other math teachers I've had don't describe why they're doing a certain process, but Seth makes sure that you understand each step of a math concept.
If you're stressing about finding a good math teacher, taking Seth is a great choice. He just wasn't the teacher for me. I work best when we can talk in groups about what we just learned, and a classroom with high energy. This is a calm, focused learning environment that just didnt work for me. Very lecture heavy. but hes super nice and accessible
AVOID. Doesn't seem to care about students or his teaching. Absolutely the toughest grader I've ever had, gives curve-balls on every test, and doesn't curve grades or give extra credit. He's very rude and condescending, and generally over complicates things. My previous math experience did not help me at all. STAY AWAY if you value your grades.
Prof Nuckolls was the best Prof I've had at Western in terms of preparation for more advanced classes. Though his tests are difficult, I feel the course prepared me for harder classes down the line. He has good accessibility outside of class and the pacing of the course felt just right. Great teacher, but get ready to work if you want an A.
I admire Seth for going beyond the bland typical structure of many professors, but in doing so he ends up over complicating a lot. For someone who wants to challenge themselves in math I'd think they be a good fit, but for most other people I'd say avoid. Only after retaking the class with a different prof did I understand what Seth was going for
Honestly, probably the worst math prof I've had. His exams are entirely in words problems, and you never know if you're doing the homework correctly or not. Which means you never know if you're understand whats going on. I promise you, avoid taking him!
Seth is your worst nightmare. Neither do my friends nor I know how he grades. He WILL find ways to mark your test down no matter what. Show all your CORRECT work, have the CORRECT units, accidentally write down the wrong answer, no points. What about writing the right answer? NOPE STILL WRONG. 300 characters IS NOT ENOUGH TO SHOW HOW BAD HE IS.
Do not take this prof ever. Nuckoll's tests you in ways you are not prepared for, the assigned work has little to do with what is tested. Over half the class failed the course, and the material is not very difficult. I'm a math major with a 3.8+ gpa, I have aced classes far more difficult. He's just unfair. He also assigns loads of busy work.
I took Seth's class during quarantine. His setup was actually ok, although the class took a lot of time. Class time is meant to ask homework questions, then watch a prerecorded lecture, and then do the homework. Way too much homework, felt like busy work most of the time. The tests ranged from challenging to totally unfair. 3-4 hours a day.
Really rude and doesnt respect his students. Didnt feel safe taking his class and his lectures are half assed. Avoid this dude at all costs
If you don't have a strong math background, good luck. The average grade on his tests is a 27/50 and test corrections don't go toward the actual test grade. Homework is 2-4 hours a night, or more if you struggle with the concept (and if you do there isn't much you can do about it). The amount of pure anger and hatred toward I harbor is unparalleled
I took Seth my first quarter at Western and dropped his class, it was so hard. I am now one quarter away from graduating, and currently have a 4.0, and haven't dropped anything since. His lectures didn't make sense. Most people didn't finish the second test in time and he blamed all of us. He's also super condescending. Don't take him!
Worse professor I've ever had. Tests were super hard, there were big portions of the tests that were hardly based on what we learned in class. Office hours were useless. I put in a lot of effort and got a C, and I had taken calc BC in high school. Taught things in ways no one else did. Avoid him unless you want your GPA to suffer.
He's incredibly vague when you want help with something in office hours. He seems to either not care or get irritated if the class is not doing well on an exam. I had a 3.8 before taking his class and had to drop and take calc 1 from another professor. Calculus itself is actually not too hard, but he makes it impossible. Don't take him.
Extremely nit-picky when it comes to homework and grading exams. You have to go above and beyond if you want to pass.
The hardest class I've taken so far, but I can't recommend this class enough if you're heading into a stem major. Nuckoll's tests may have made me cry nearly every time, but I feel extremely confident after taking his 124/125 classes.
Professor Nuckolls is a very kind and caring professor. Yes, there is quite a bit of homework but he is very easily accessible and never makes you feel bad for not understanding something. He also has test corrections which can bump up exam scores and drops your lowest exam grade.
Professor Nuckolls is a good teacher, he is nice, and he grades fairly. Calculus is challenging though, I had to go above and beyond on my own time to succeed in his class. The material on homework and exams often far exceed what is covered during lecture.
Quiet and focused environment, lecture based. About an hour and a half of homework a night. Pleasant class.
Seth certainly has a passion for teaching math, but falls short to actually convey those concepts in ways that resonate and make learning easy for students. Concepts covered in class will be extrapolated into much more complex problems in homework, which leaves students lost and confused. He's very open for office hours, but almost as a necessity.
He is a great lecturer, and makes difficult concepts simple and easy to understand. He is very nice, and always responds if you need help on difficult concepts. His class has a nice routine.
Great structure, clear and concise. Seth always seems so calm and very thoughtful in explaining things. I don't know how he stays so calm when people struggle with basic algebra (like exponent rules and reading graphs) in a Multivariable Calculus class. It must be very frustrating. That's why I couldn't be a math teacher. Seth is great at it.
Seth really cares about his students and their understanding, and takes the time to answer their questions and make them clear. His 224 is a difficult class but he is fair with the grading and willing to adjust it according to how the students are doing. He is quite accessible during office hours and, answers emails pretty fast. Would take again.
Overall good teacher and I understand all the main points of the course, I also took him for 125. There is daily homework although it's only worth 10% of your grade, he does take the "you should expect 2 hours of work each day outside of class" seriously. He was very helpful and wants his students to do well. The class average for the final was 68%
Lectures are hard to follow. 3 hours homework daily. 60% exam averages. Seth picks his exam questions out of the most confusing, difficult homework problems that appear once and you're never taught how to do. Spend twice the class time in the math center and office hours.
I cannot reccomend this professor to anyone with a full schedule. Somehow makes a 5 credit class feel like a 7 credit class. He is passionate and knowledgeable about the subject, but fails in other regards. A constant bombardment of assignments combined with harsh grading and strange exam questions has made this course a chore and a half.
Seth Nuckolls is a nice guy, but his class his absolutely ridiculous. 3-6 hours of homework a night, with no answer key, so you'll never know if you are doing anything right unless you live in office hours/math center. Tests are even more ridiculous, even with the 5-points of potential test corrections. On obscure homework problems. Avoid!
Lectures were crazy confusing, all homework is hand written by him as well and wasn't easy to do. I'd spend easily 3+ hours on the homework and unless you dedicate hours to your day in the help center this class is impossible to pass. This class requires a text book but he never uses it, it was a waste of money.
Would only introduce the very basics during class and then literally introduce new concepts in the homework. Like, would literally have a problem that was just him stating some math fact that would've been good to know. And his lectures were nothing like the textbook so couldn't refer to that either.
Seth nuckolls is not malicious but oh my god he cannot teach. If you take this professor, be ready to read the textbook and use online resources to actually learn the material. Also all his homework/exam questions are written in a very confusing way that allows for misinterpretation. Seriously, interpreting the problem is half the work with Seth.
cool guy, assigns way too much homework though. homework isn't hard just rather tedious. if you're going to take a course from him make sure your other classes aren't homework heavy.
Homework every day average of about 1-3 hours. Before lecture he goes over hw q's and literally just gives you free answers to the hw. Hw graded on completion. Drops 5 hw grades. Exams and final were difficult but he gives 10 points test corrections on first 2 exams then 5 point test corrections on last 3 exams. Great lecture and also big heart
224 is a hard class at Western. You will have 4-5 homeworks a week. Seth is funny and nice if you're friendly. He is very helpful in office hours. I failed his class once, retook it and did fine. The hardest part of 224 is understanding the concepts which takes a long time. Doesn't allow notes on tests and no tolerance for BS, NO PHONES
Seth does a really good job at teaching Calculus. I was worried going into his class as this was a new concept for me but the way he teaches math is very graspable and understandable. Your grade in the class is very heavily weighted on exams but he allows for test corrections which were really useful at raising your score and actually learning.
Seth is a great professor. I see a lot of complaints on here how the tests don't have homework related questions on them. Just because the questions aren't EXACTLY the same as the homework doesn't mean they aren't related. He expects you to know the material. You do that by showing up to class, participating and doing homework. Stop being lazy.
A lot of people either love or hate Seth, but he is incredible! You can tell he is passionate about mathematics and really cares to make sure you understand the material. Super accessible outside of class in his office hours and over email.
Nuckolls is one of the best math professors I have ever had. He is very good at explaining the material and answering questions. The only negative aspect is if you miss class you will fall behind and there is a decent amount of homework. There was also test corrections that earned you a letter grade higher.
I was a bit nervous going into MATH 125 with Prof. Nuckolls because of some of the negative reviews on here, but he is one of the best math professors I've ever had. He goes slower during lectures to make sure that everyone is grasping material, and he is very accessible when you need help or if you're struggling! The homework is also very helpful!
Seth was an absolutely phenomenal professor. Can throw down a sick beat too. His 224 class was not too hard, just a good amount of homework
I loved Seth! I took him for 124 and 125. he gives homework every day. everything that is in the HW he talks about in class, and everything on the tests is in the HW. He is super accessible both via email and through office hours. His lectures are incredible and super clear. Work hard and you shouldn't have an issue in his classes.
Very great lectures. He is hilarious and puts everything into terms easy to understand. There is a lot of work, but if you stay on top of things you'll learn a lot. He has test corrections for every test that get back a full letter grade and the lowest exam is dropped
Sooo accessible outside of class, will respond to your emails quick & late into the day. I had a small emergency come up 10 minutes before an exam, ran up to his office, & he just said go! I was able to take that exam later that day with no issues. Quick grading, HW based on completion, test corrections, lowest exam dropped, great guy overall!
Seth's lectures are engaging and he explains concepts clearly. The workload is heavy, but if you stay on top of the material and utilize study tools like Unstuckstudy, you'll learn a lot. Definitely attend class - Seth's tests are tough but the corrections really help.
Very kind and straightforward with lectures. Daily homework gets tough, but manageable. Requires test corrections for everyone which helps boost your grade no matter what.
He is very accessible, which is nice, but his teaching does not work. He'll maybe introduce a concept during his class, then the homework will be super difficult. He also assigns it almost everyday, so you'll be spending hours teaching yourself the material on top of doing the homework. As a neurodivergent this would usually take me 8 hours.
Exams are worth 80% of the grade, 90% if you count corrections. Confusing lectures and homework have nothing to do with what's on exams. HW worth 10% of the grade, graded on completion but takes 2+ hours to do. He's chill but just a bad prof DONT TAKE IF YOU HAVE EXAM ANXIETY, there was an exam every other week, you had 50 minutes to complete.
Seth is an amazing prof, uses a lot of time in class to teach how the math works! Very kind inside and outside of class, will respond to emails and questions past midnight! Homework is graded on completion and tests have test corrections that can boost your final test grade 10%. Heavy on test and lecture, super chill, will be taking 224 with him!
Seth was a great professor. A funny guy who takes the time to create a genuine understanding of the content rather than memorization or formulas. Homework almost every night, tests are not very easy.
I really liked this course and gained a great understanding just by attending lectures. Textbook is not needed if you go to class. Nightly homeworks don't take very long and are very helpful for practicing the material. Test corrections can give your grade a big boost.
Seth is great at lecturing, an extremely difficult class, tests are often more about your fundamental understanding of material rather than problem solving. Homework every night that took 3+ hours and not a fantastic study guide for tests but whatever. Came out of this class with a C+, but I can solve any integral haha. Tread lightly choosing this.
Very good professor. Funny and knew how to break concepts down to make you understand. Always answered + encouraged emails outside of class for questions. Test corrections will save you for the test scores, so always do 100% on those. Highly recommend!
224 made me feel like I was hallucinating every day from the hours of 12-12:50pm. Seth is obviously very smart but not great at relaying that knowledge for this evil, evil course. Daily homework that takes hours and is not realistically feasible for every day. Mandatory test corrections will save you.
Seth teaches a hard section of M224 but is a great professor. Heavily graded on tests but is very forgiving, partial credit matters! Super easy to reach during office hours and over email, he will respond late at night. The beginning of the class is hard so expect to put a couple hours into the class per day! Ask questions and you'll do great!
Great teacher. Test corrections are super helpful and the homework is helpful on the exams. Go to class or you will be very confused.
Seth is an amazing professor! Loved his lectures; it definitely shows that he cares about your success and learning. I will say, even if you really know your stuff, you will probably still have to spend at least an hour on homework every day (which really is not that bad once you're in the class).
Bro is actually so funny but not in the way that distracts From the learning just a little quip to keep attention up mid lecture. made math fun and makes you want to get better.
I struggled hard in math at WWU, but managed to do well in this class. I had an A up until the last exam, bombed it oops, but I think it is because Seth is a great teacher. He is very helpful & wants you to learn the material + responds quickly to all emails & encourages you to reach out. He also allows corrections! I rlly reccomend him :)
I had roughly 2 hours of homework every night for this course, but it was super helpful. Just because the content is hard doesn't mean it's the professor's fault! You can email him at any time of day with homework questions and he will respond 10-20 minutes later, even late at night. It's obvious he cares for students and helps however he can.
