I thought the class was gonna be easy but it hasn't been because the tests are way dumb. No matter how much you study, you'll still get a bad grade.
While his tests are hard, it's still possible to get a good grade if you understand the material, not just memorize facts. He doesn't assign homework, gives several extra points on tests to boost the average(13 for the last one), and has easy points like discussion, just do it and you get 100 points.
I have never had such a hard time with a teacher! He tried had to please everyone and was a very nice person in general, but he was not at all clear in his teaching. His tests were horrible. Since he didn't teach very clearly, if you didn't understand the material you had no hope to pass the class.
Brother Ririe is great, he makes you know your material. He's not an easy A, but if you study well you will do well in the class. He is very approachable.
Brother Ririe Rocks. I love his class. I just think his class is so interesting and awsome and he is always real clear and there to help if ya need it.
Tries too hard to sound like he knows what he is talking about and doesn't really help students to understand the basics.
You guys are morons. Just listen and class and study outside of class and you'll do fine. He's a good teacher and a nice guy, though a little nerdy at times. :) Get out of high school and join us at college.
I would have to sat that Seth Ririe is a wonderful teacher. He lets you know what you need to know for the tests. One could only miss out on such useful info if asleep or dead. He deserves a lot of respect for his great knowledge base. Great Teacher!
Ririe is hard. He isn't straight forward with what you need to know.
hes not very clear on what he wants with assignments....well he is when you talk to him AFTER hes graded it and you find you've missed a lot. he is a great teacher and helpful though...just go in and talk to him if you dont quite understand and he will be more than happy to help you...the tests are way easy, just study and you ace em!
He may be nice and a good teacher, i'll give him that. but his grading is HORRIBLE. He will take off points just to take off points and you almost have to be able to read his mind to know exactly what he wants for assignments. I dont care if we are university students....clarity is still a necessity in life no matter where you are
Good teacher, you have to take a lot of initiative to understand the material, or else you won't do well on your tests. I didn't care much for the subject, so I did pretty bad in the class, but that was my bad. doesn't really have homework
One of the BEST! He is always willing to help us understand the material. I felt like I learned a bunch in Micro 221 and 222
He is a very difficult teacher and his grading is brutal, but I learned so much it was worth it. I worked my butt off for a B, but learned a ton.
I do not understand how this professor achieved his PhD. If anyone has taken upper level classes you will understand why. He is stubborn in the fact that when you confront him with false material that he has taught he will use the route "I'm the prof. and I said so." Ririe-go back and read your own textbook.
very very strict
It seems like he doesn't know what he is talking about half the time, anytime some one will ask a question in class he gets all nervous and doesn't know how to answer and sometime will even change his mind on what he says..i agree with the rating below..how did he get his PhD!!
Not helpful in the slightest. He would start off the class with a five minute lecture (which more often than not was given off the top of his head) then lock himself in his office grading papers from other classes. Take this class from anyone else if you can.l
He is a great teacher! he helped me out a lot. He wants you to know and understand the subject. Great guy who wants to help out so that you get a good grade
It seems impossible for anyone in his class to get an A.
He is a great teacher and funny sometimes, but it is hard. I learned a lot but it is a lot of studying and hard work.
It seems you have to be able to read his mind. He is NOT clear at all on what he wants for research papers and case studies,I doubt he knows what he wants. His grading is very unfair and impartial. The immense amount of group work hurts your grade more than it helps it. I highly suggest another. teacher
The poorest teacher on campus! He sits on a bench and lectures from PowerPoint. He doesn't even have an exceptional knowledge of the subject matter. There is a lot of group worked involved that is graded very unfairly..
His tests are hard but only if you memorize facts and don't understand the material. Lectures are interesting and he applies material to the modern day. Scales tests a lot which helps the grade. No homework (other than discussion board postings) but studying is essential. Nice guy and willing to help. Field bio is better for generals credit though.
this teacher's tests are a joke. his lectures cover some of the material. this is an okay class to take if you have very few credits. he is not willing to help your grade out in the end.
Class was demanding at times, but you will do fine if you study the powerpoint slides. Tests are made up of everything off of slides and case studies. Study those and you'll be fine. I thought he was a helpful teacher, really enjoyed the class. Group projects were the hardest part, just stay on top of everything.
Hard to understand. Made me feel stupid.
His class is a waste of your tuition. If you're a Bio major you're in luck cuz you wont have to take it from him. He doesnt have the knowledge to grade the things he makes his students do. His grading is UNFAIR and IMPARTIAL. He wont bump your grade one tenth of a point to help you out in the end. Take it from another professor.
Do not take a class from this guy. He is the poorest teacher I have ever had. He lectures from powerpoint because he isn't that smart. Ask him a question and see what I mean. I was really interested in the subject until this class. Now I am turned off by it. There are two other teachers for microbiology. Take one of them.
I look at all the reviews many students have written about Dr. Ririe and I wonder if they even tried in his class. I thought his class was exceptional. Most of the people on here are probably complaining because they wanted to be spoon fed instead of actually working for it. Excellent teacher who writes excellent tests.
Took him for 377 lab and micro lecture and lab. Liked him, but he is a hard grader on lab reports and some of the test. I felt that I deserved a better grade it my classes I took from him due to the honest hard work and effort I put into his classes. He ejoys the topics he teaches but he sometimes does have difficultly explaining questions clearly
I got an A in the class by acing every single test. The group work that was "supposed" to help our grades only ended up hurting mine because he is a horrible grader. I don't think he would survive without his powerpoint presentations, ask him a question and he will just point to a picture. There are MUCH better professors for this class
I thought Bro Ririe was a great teacher! Thoroughly enjoyed his class - especially that he loves the subject matter (micro). very helpful and willing to clarify in class if you'll actively participate. The tests weren't bad, but keep in mind that they test your comprehension, not your memorization skills. Overall, great class and great teacher!
good guy, fair, always willing to help, expects your effort, is interesting.
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. Doesn't know how to grade, teach, answer questions...uhhh basically everything a teacher should be able to do. At the college level I would expect more..how the heck did this guy get his degree!
This professor is a nice guy, but he is not clear at all on what you need to know for the tests. Even if you study for hours you cant be sure you are studying the right material. His grading process is horrible, and for those that think he is an awesome professor probably have photographic memory. If you have a choice dont take this class from him.
I Hosnestly thought about changing my major after taking this class. Awesome teacher. Really good at explaining every thing and making it interesting.
Guy is a joke!Epic fail.He is not clear on anything. If you try to talk to him he gets very prideful and says "I'm the teacher, you are the student" spill. He seriously doesn't know the material at all and students correct him often. It's an easy class except you are on a 300 point system so every point counts. Expect to leave 15-30 early every class.
what a joke. he is such a cocky jerk & and he doesn't even know his material. i would like to see him try to teach without his powerpoints. he is such a fake. he says that he is available but he's full of crap. he should take lessons from some of the real biology instructors that actually do a good job. take bro. dewall instead.
He is an excellent teacher. The subject matter can be tough, but he will help you through it. He really cares about his students.
I LOVED BRO RIRIE! the class is tough, but it's tough material. no extra credit and no curve, which kind of sucked! take advantage of bro. ririe's availability by talking to him in his office. he's more than willing to go over stuff to help you-it helps! he's a great teacher, but tough.
He is really helpful when you go to his office and discuss the topics and assignments. Otherwise in class it's hard to follow and understand him. Does not give curves (maybe once a semester but don't expect it). Doesn't give out free points. Not an easy class because of it's hard to understand at times, not because there is a lot of work.
This class is only worth 600 points, which makes it difficult to get an A. He hates RN students and has a HUGE chip on his shoulder and treats students like they are idiots. Hated everything about this class, and really didn't like him at all.
Excellent! Very loving!
Nice guy. He wants to help you. If you dont understand something go talk to him. A lot of students didnt take this class seriously and would come to class 15 minutes late, and ya, they probably had a hard time and are complaining. Offers tons of extra credit, if you pay attention, study, and do the extra credit, it's hard to not get an A
So the class iteself is awesome. Love the material. Bro. ririe is extremely boring. The tests are easy if you have taken any bone head biology u will be fine. He wont cut u any slack on the homework though.. docks your grade for stupid details that are not important. But its his mood that grades you.. not intelligence.. just brown nose & get an A.
One of my favorite classes ever. Bro Ririe is a great teacher who is well prepared and knows his stuff. People who dont like him are just mad because this is not an easy class. What he covers in class is very important. Brown nosing will not help you at all (that is ridiculous). I came out of this class and LEARNED TONS. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND HIM!!!
Bro. Ririe gives you very difficult case study assignments before he teaches the material; and he expects the answers to be extremely detailed. He never curves tests, so beware of that. Many assignments somewhat require you to read his mind on what answer he wants. I was able to get a good grade in the class but I don't recommend him.
Bro Ririe is a good teacher. Not always clear, but usually pretty good at answering questions. Tests are super hard!
Brother Ririe is a great teacher! He is brilliant. The fact that he really knows what he is talking about helps a lot. His tests are hard and case studies suck, but the class is very interesting. If you study hard and listen in class you'll do well.
BAD. I took him two terms ago for microbiology. You have to go into extreme detail on case studies, he grades so hard its nearly impossible to get an A on them. Don't ask him questions outside of class, he makes you feel SO stupid. See a tutor before the tests because you have to use very specific wording on the essay questions.
He is very boring and not helpful. He completely relies on his slides to teach. The case studies are very difficult and he expects sooo much detail that hasnt even been taught yet. I would not recommend him at all!
The class is hard so I can't blame the teacher. If you turn in your case study early he will help with it. Everything on the tests are in his powerpoints, case study, and the disease presentations. He tells you everything that is on the test. I didn't like him at first but he is one of my favorite teachers. He gets you excited about the subject.
Although the material is hard, Bro. Ririe is a good teacher. He is very nice and willing to answer questions. Make sure to go into detail on case studies, because he grades those strictly. Go see the tutor before tests too.
Never wrong, he never takes responsibility for his teaching, Doesn't prepare you for tests at all, case studies are hell you can never get full points on them.
For your own sanity stay away from this guy. Annoying, terrible teacher who is very proud. Teaches only from Powerpoints. Way too up tight about grading, and very condescending. Every other BIO teacher on campus is amazing!
Oh I could rant forever. Don't take his class. He made me feel like an idiot in his office. He wants you to read his mind for case studies and then grades them way too hard, and says "these are to help your grade." They aren't. Tests are set up pretty cool, but you really have to know your stuff. Memory and comprehension. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!!
This class was super interesting from Brother Ririe. He is super helpful with the case studies if you turn them into him before they are due! He makes class fun and I think that he does a good job at making sure you understand everything on the tests. If you take notes on his powerpoints you will do well on the tests. I think he is great!
Brother Ririe is a great teacher. He is a tough grader, but as long as you do your part you are going to be great. GO TO THE TUTOR. It helps so much. And if you go to the tutor you are pretty much guaranteed to get an A on the exams. I learned so much and I wouldn't take microbiology from any other teacher!
Bro Ririe was alright. I found him quite frustrating at times. Grading was inconsistent; you may lose points that others do not while having very similar responses. He could also take situations very personally and become defensive. Professors deserve respect but are not automatically correct in all things. Would suggest alternate professors.
So this teacher is so full of him self. He gives big research group work that he grades super hard and does not give you any real directions or grading criteria. He is one of those teachers that you really have guess his mind or something to do really well. You are not graded on how hard you work or how well you study the material.
Brother Riere is a great teacher. He is very enthusiastic about the material. His test are based on the disease processes how they relate in real life clinical situations. Wiling to help, but will make you work for the answer. He doesn't hand feed you. I appreciate his style. A must take for every student.
Brother Ririe is great! I really enjoyed his class and if you work hard, you will do well. A lot of people don't like him, but he's super intelligent and really knows his stuff. Take notes on his powerpoints and do the reading! I wouldn't take it from anyone else.
Brother Ririe was awesome! His teaching style was great and he teaches you how to apply concepts to clinical situations. I am grateful that he was the professor for this class because I learned so much from him. He makes you work for your grade but getting an A is totally possible!
He is a great teacher. Sometimes he can be a little blunt, but honestly it helps make you a better person sometimes so I really didn't mind it too much. You have to work for the grade you want. He is so excited about microbiology and really knows a lot (which is great!). I liked that he focused the course more towards the clinical aspect.
AMAZING! I loved his class, didn't think I would like micro but i feel in love with because he was so passionate about it. He is a tough grader but if you study and do your work you will do very well in his class. He's not a typical BYUI teacher I guess this is why some don't like him. I would not want to take this from anyone else. learned SO much
Bro Ririe is a great teacher. He is very dedicated to the subject he teaches. Has a emphasis on the clinical aspect which is great for premed type of routes. GO TO THE TUTOR! It helps you a lot for the tests. He is willing to meet in his office and talk about subjects for further clarification if needed. Focus on powerpoint slides that he posts
Brother Ririe grades extremely harsh. Case studies & tests are extremely hard & almost impossible to get an A on. You'll do group work all semester (he assigns them). He will rip you to shreds on your group presentation. I'm an A student and got a C in this class. I spent more than 20 hours a week on case studies & best grade was a B. Take Dewall!
This is the hardest class I've take on campus. Tests are based on application, case studies are extremely hard, seeing that you can't ask for help from the tutor with ANYTHING on the case study. He acts like we should all know the info he's teaching and isn't very nice. The tutor is the only reason I'm even passing the class. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE.
One thing he does is group projects- which I hate. There are case studies and disease presentations with these groups which can be really beneficial to you if you have a good group. Brother Ririe is so awesome though. GO TO THE TUTOR. The first week of class I was completely lost but after going to the tutor I did well on all the tests.
Loved this class. If you are going into the medical field this class will be super helpful. Material was very applicable but also often difficult. Group work is beneficial in this class and he assigns it regularly in the form of Case studies. His tests are difficult but if you go to class you should do well. He's always willing to help.
GO TO THE TUTOR. That's all I gotta say.
Brother Ririe is one of the hardest teachers for this class. At the same time his teaching is very clear cut. After the first two weeks the routine is the same and if you buckle down you will get an A. Contrary to what some people say, it is possible to get full credit on case studies and group presentations. I have done it. I recommend Br. Ririe.
He was very helpful and went out of his way to help his students understand the material. The class is difficult but if you prepare before you come to class you'll do great. There is a lot of group work but if you all work together it actually helps you prepare for the test. Make sure you go to the tutor lead review sessions before each test.
I love Brother Ririe. He is an amazing teacher. No this class is not an easy A, but who wants to take a class where you aren't going to learn anything! I love the challenge of getting an A and so should you.. That is why you're in college. This class is very manageable. Just prepare for the lectures and meet with him once a week.
Before I took this class I read so many reviews that said Bro. Ririe was the worst teacher to take. Whoever wrote those reviews, you are WRONG!! While Bro. Ririe's class may seem like a challenge, it is a breeze once you set good study habits. You need to know how to apply your knowledge, and then you will do well in this class. It is interesting!
This class is tough no doubt but he makes it possible. He does a very detailed test review before each test. The lab reports are difficult/time-consuming but he is more than willing to help you get a good grade and will look at your drafts and give you good feedback. He clearly states grading criteria and if followed, you'll get an A on papers.
I really loved having Brother Ririe as a teacher. He is helpful, respectful, and treats you like an adult. His class is challenging, but come on, we're in college. He is more than willing to give you feedback on papers and exams and give advice on how to improve. I could really tell he cared about my progress in the class.
Ririe is not a fair grader. He is very nit-picky and is looking for ways to dock points. He's not looking for a right answer or a reasonable answer, he's looking for HIS answer. He also can be very rude and mean. He'll interrupt you and won't listen to what you are saying. Definitely wouldn't recommend him.
Do not take from Brother Ririe. He is by far the most unfair, unkind and unhelpful professor that I have ever met. He is an extraordinarily picky grader. No matter how much work you put into an assignment, you won't get a fair grade. He has no interest in whether or not you succeed in the class. He is cruel and really unhelpful in his office hours.
Seriously IMPOSSIBLE. I will never take again. I was an A student. but he has you write papers with no clear grading criteria. He says he'll read your papers before hand and tell you everything looks good and then give you a C on a paper when you actually turn it in. Hardest grader I've ever had. The tests aren't bad but they're not worth alot.
His class is extremely time consuming. He is very rude and condescending, calls students lazy, and his grade style is extremely picky. Tests were extremely hard, and the IRP was more work than what was expected. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FROM HIM!
Brother Ririe does not explain the procedures very well. His tests are very hard, and he has nit picky grading criteria. He says he will grade papers you turn into him and return them, then will give you a paper back with no proof reading at all. He blames students for caring more about points if you ask him why you got a certain grade.
Bro. Ririe is a great professor and will basically tell you everything that is going to be on the test the day before you take it. Great teacher!
Brother Ririe should not be teaching at this school. He is terrible as far as communicating and setting his expectations. I spent countless hours in is office going over papers and preparing for tests, he would always tell me my papers were going to be great and that he really liked them. Then after grading them he always gave me C's and D's. awful
Very frustrating class. Brother Ririe isn't very clear. He tells you what to study for exams and then most of it isn't on the exam. He tries to trick you on exams and on case studies. The book and his preparation assignments are not helpful. He's also a very strict grader and unreasonable. Would never take again!
90% of the class is student taught, he is basically an over payed TA. Almost everyone failed the final and he grades you based off of other students material not a key, so you better be the smartest person in the class in order to get the one good grade he gives out on the tests
Brother Ririe as a person is a nice guy, but when he grades, he is unreasonable. He wants HIS answer, and has terribly nitpicky criteria. He does try to help but makes you feel stupid. He causes so much stress on students that a few (including myself) can't sleep properly because of all the stress. I've lost my self confidence being in his classes.
His normal lectures do not meet the requirement he sets for student presentations. He categorizes students - inaccurately predicts what a student will do before they can even do it, and it heavily effects his interactions with individuals. Honestly he was very openly cruel at times, probably without even realizing it.
He was rude, condescending, and arrogant. He comes off as very unprofessional- while students were presenting in class, he would interrupt them and make sarcastic and rude comments. His exams were graded very harshly and covered content far beyond what he told us he wanted us to know. I wanted to enjoy this class, but he made it miserable.
I really love microbiology and I was really excited to take this class. unfortunately, he seemed to go out of his way to make this class miserable. He is extremely picky when it comes to grading, and exams are nearly impossible. He comes across as patronizing and doesn't treat students with respect. Overall, just seemed very unprofessional.
I'm not sure why this guy is rated poorly on here, but I loved him as a professor. He was really direct with what we needed to study to do well on every test. He makes time to meet with you if you have questions and is super funny. If you put in the time to understand the material his classes are easy to succeed in.
This is a really cool course. Great application and important information. Lots of papers. Brother Ririe, however, is the devil. I don't say this because I didn't do well or because I didn't like the class. I was the only one in my class to receive an A and I loved the material but he doesnt care about you at all. Stuck up, worst professor ive had.
He is so rude and so means. He is very prideful and doesn't care about your success or grade. Doesn't believe in perfect scores, therefore, doesn't believe in giving many As. About 1 person receives an A per class per semester. Do not take it from him unless you have to. Worst professor I have ever had. Can't reason with him. He will get mad at you
Brother Ririe is AWESOME. He gets a bad rep here, but you're actually really missing out if you don't take his class. His tests are easy to get As on if you pay attention, and he even does reviews where he explains exactly what's on the test. His office hours are awesome, and he is so encouraging! His class actually made me confident in my major!
I have completely loved being in brother Riries class. He is very direct and straight forward with what he expects. He is kind and always willing to help inside and outside the classroom.
Ive had Ririe for a lot of my classes. He can be a really tough grader, but hes a really nice guy and just wants you to learn. This semester I had him for Bio413 and Ive had a lot of fun in his class doing microbiology things. Hes eased up on grading a bit this semester but the tests still are very nitty gritty, so study the little details.
Good teacher, cares a lot about the students. Easy enough class, just watch the online videos and go to class.
He looks for very specific words on the written portions of his tests.
Brother Ririe is super nice. The class itself doesnt go into that much depth, it is just covers a lot of material. There also isnt a book/powerpoints to review and study from so attendance is very important. He grading is tough, he really wants you to explain everything in detail even if its assumed. However, overall it was a fun class!
Brother Ririe's microbiology class was made easy by his teaching style. He gives you clear information about what will be on the test and what to study for. There was never any reading given from a text book. Honestly just tutoring videos and notes from class got me an A in this class. You will need to come to class every day for quizzes though.
Being that this is a lab class, attendance is necessary. The class is fantastic, and challenging; it applies many techniques used in microbio labs. The last month of the course consists of your running your own research project. My only critique of the course is that I feel that we could have been better prepared for exams as a class.
Brother Ririe is a great teacher and is very understanding. If you do his prep guides, and especially watch the tutoring video you will do well in the class. His tests can be a little tricky but he lays out what will be on them. He grades his written portions of his tests hard so make sure you are specific and you will do fine.
Hard to succeed because tests have written portions where you have to read his mind pretty much and the in class quizzes can be hard as well. He is a fine teacher but the way the course is set up is sorta whack.
Ririe is great! Seriously, if you are worried about the class, take it from him. He is clear as to what is on the tests. There are many chances for extra credit as well. You have to come to class to pass, it's like 20% of your grade. But watch his tutor videos and you will be fine on his in class quizzes. He is not trying to trick you.
My favorite teacher so far, I loved every class with him. Very helpful and kind with his students.
He is a great teacher, knows what he is talking about and is actually a pretty funny guy. He does not do that much homework just make you do the prep guides with the tutor videos he provides which don't take much time at all and you will do just fine. Definitely would take again.
Brother Ririe wants his students to succeed and is the most helpful professor if you will put in the time and effort to meet with him. In-class quizzes make up a decent portion of your grade, so ensure that you are coming to class prepared. I would highly recommend Brother Ririe for this course.
Bro Ririe is probably my favorite teacher here at BYUI. First of all, his upper level classes have almost no homework, so everything that is on the test are things that he talked about in class. That being said, you need to go to class. He is super willing to work with his students and is more than happy to meet up outside of class. 10/10!
Great professor, he teaches you what you need to know and ignores what you don't. No busywork or extra homework- no textbook. He just teaches what you need to learn in class so you have to show up. Super willing to meet outside of class and really cares about his students.
He is good at explaining the content and make it easier to grasp for his students. There are attendance quizzes every class period so you should come to class. He is willing to work with kids outside of class and is willing to answer questions. Some advice is to make sure not to abbreviate on the short answer part of the tests. I'd recommend him.
Brother Ririe is very good at teaching material at the level you should understand it. If you go to every class, take good notes and study hard you'll do fine. He is more than willing to meet with you and make sure you are prepared before each exam. Just put in time and learn the material, this is a 400-level course so it's not supposed to be easy.
I absolutely love Bro. Ririe, I have heard a lot of tough things about him but he communicates his expectations very clearly. This is a 400 level class so hard work is to be expected. He is an INCREDIBLE teacher and I would recommend him for any class.
Favorite class I've taken at BYU-Idaho. You learn and practice so many useful lab techniques throughout the semester. If you read the Lab Procedures carefully and keep a good Lab Notebook it will help you so much when preparing for the exams. They are hard exams, but Brother Ririe is more than willing to meet and help you focus on the right things.
Advanced Microbiology was a fun class, I learned many new things from Brother Ririe. There is plenty of opportunities for extra credit throughout the semester. Attendance is necessary to learn all the techniques needed to help you with exams and you individual research project. I wished there were some labs we could've done.
Brother Ririe is awesome! I have had him for Virology, Med Micro, and Adv Micro Lab. I really love him as a teacher. He is known for being a harsh grader in the past, but he is really trying to be better and give better feedback. He is very easy to work with as long as you put in the effort to earn your grade. The class itself is hard, but do-able.
Brother Ririe prepares you well for the tests. So if you show up to class listen to what he has to say and study you will do fine.
BIO411- ALL the good reviews around the time of APR/2019 exist because he offered extra credit for them. I have never heard of anyone liking Ririe, he is awful at communicating, VERY condescending, impatient, and can even get angry in 1 on 1 meetings. 3/4ths of the course is 26 student presentations you have to memorize. Grades based on feelings. F
Grades based on prejudice and other students material without a grading key. Openly criticizes/degrades students during presentations. I dont think he knows how rude he is. You will be expected to read his mind during tests. Once he has his mind made up about you its permanent and will forever affect you in as many classes as you take with him.
You have to read his mind. There is no clear outline listing any expectations, so he can simply argue with you for grades. He briefly mentioned it in class, so you can expect it to be the heart of the exam. If you didn't write down every word from class, you WILL fail. Students teach everything in class, and they don't understand either. ABSURD!!!
You just have to do exactly what he says and you will do fine. You have to be in class but thats because its all labs. If you meet one on one with him you will do fine on the tests.
He's really nice and funny. Willing to help. You are graded mostly on quizzes taken on class, so attending is important. There are several tests, but barely any homework. If you just read the preparation for class and go to class you'll do totally fine. It is a very very easy class, if you don't pass it's cause you seriously didn't care at all.
Brother Ririe is a great teacher but a harsh grader. He teaches the material in a simple and easy-to-understand way that easily lets you know what will be on the test. Unfortunately, he is a harsh grader and you do have to read his mind sometimes but I've never had trouble passing his classes even if I did really bad on exams.
Brother Ririe is a very good teacher. He really knows how to explain the content and wants his students to succeed. The course work is difficult but that is expected because it is a 400 level course. If you are planning on taking this course make sure you study and stay on top of the information.
You'll have a 2 point quiz to take every class which covers things from the preparation guides. He's pretty chill and seems willing to work with you. If you just do the assigned readings, you should do fine in the class. The quizzes are basically for attendance points. He doesn't always articulate his point well but is always willing to reexplain.
Brother Ririe is a great guy and is always willing to help out the best he can. He sets guidelines of what he wants you to accomplish. If you fall outside of those requirements there is no mercy so get it right the second time. Work closely with him and you will succeed.
I took BIO 412 (Virology) from Brother Ririe. He took SO much time during his office hours to go over material with me. I was able to do well on many exams because of his help. The course is hard, but it was helpful to have a caring teacher like Brother Ririe.
He's is a great professor. The subject matter of his lectures are very interesting. The tests he gives are very easy and most of his assignments are as well. He doesn't really give much homework, but sometimes the homework is a bit confusing. He grades very fairly and generously making his classes very enjoyable.
He is a great professor who is very generous with his grading. His classes are fun and interesting and do not require too much effort. His homework assignments are rare and very doable. I highly recommend him.
Great class! I learned a lot and there were many times I considered changing my major to pursue somethings that came up in this course! Brother Ririe was a good teacher! Be prepared to work for a good grade!
Great great teacher! Honestly was so fun to hear his lectures and attend the class Brother Ririe taught. One time a computer test didn't work right for me, and after letting him know, he let me come in and finish the test, which meant a lot to me. Very kind and respectful person! And I learned so much.
Seems like in other classes he's more lenient- this review is specific to BIO412. His grading is very subjective, meaning that if he doesn't like your writing style or approach you won't get the points. His test questions are all chunky run on sentences, and he congratulates you when the test average is a C+. Most frustrating class I've taken.
I loved this class and Brother Ririe. In order to get an A, just watch the tutoring videos he has before class, then listen to his lecture which will just be review. Brother Rire is kind, caring, funny and loves the material. You can tell student were mean to him in the past because he is very appreciative when you come to class.
Teaching style forces you to be in class to succeed. He doesn't use a textbook. If you miss class or want to , there aren't resources to fill in the blanks. He is willing to meet outside of class, which is nice. However, he had a hard time lining up what he'd said in class with what was on the exams. Very difficult to know what to expect on exams.
I was sick a lot when I took his class, both physically and mentally. He was willing to work with me and was open a lot of the time to help me understand what I was confused about. Over all he is a great guy and a wonderful teacher.
this professor is one of the worst professors ive ever had he doesnt care about anything happening in your life. He doesnt teach well at all he just kinda throws statement out there and is like "yea thats pretty much it". he tells you what not to focus on because it wont be on the test then its on the test save your gpa and take another teacher.
He is a nice person and human being. But hes more suited for labs outside of school and teaching. He doesnt give a clear grading criteria and if you ask for help hes not specific and will leave you more confused. Like I said great guy, but I wouldnt take any of his classes again. IRP portion of this class forces you to come in after class hours
I really struggled in this class because I'm not a BIO major. But that isn't a reflection on the class itself, nor the professor. He took multiple hours a week to help me outside of class, and he was very patient with my progress. Take this course and don't be afraid to reach out for help! The subject material is really interesting.
Brother Ririe is a really great teacher. He tells you everything you need to know for the test in really clearly in the lectures. Watching the videos before class are really helpful. If you do that, and study a bit, you will be really prepared for the exams.
He does a one-question quiz every class for attendance but technically it is not mandatory, it just helps pad the grade. Tests are worth a lot as they are the main source of points. The wording of the tests is confusing sometimes. He is very helpful if you reach out, he will make sure you understand. Use the tutor for the class. Overall good class.
Bro Ririe is very passionate in his field and will help you if you put in the work. I bombed one test and the other ones didn't matter much that I got A's. You'll really need to study, but the information is interesting. As fas as I know, he is the best microbiology teacher.
I took ririe for a couple of my classes up here (General Microbio/Virology). I really like the guy and his teaching style but the only downside is he is a very tough grader. If you want to learn a lot he is your guy. If you're in it just for the grade, maybe not. You definitely have to earn your grade with this guy.
I learned a lot in this class. But, when you choose to take a class you paid tuition for, you should get more. He is a tough and strict teacher. I would see no problem with this... if he wasn't so rude. He would often be very harsh/condescending. I felt bad for others when he spoke to them like that in class.
Brother Ririe made microbiology much clearer than I was expecting. He loved answering questions in class and loves when you are able to make connections between concepts.
Group projects were kind of annoying. Good class overall, Bro Ririe gives great spiritual thoughts. Have to do good on tests and group projects to get a good grade.
Mid teacher. Most of the material is learned from tutor videos for prep work. You do get attendance points for being in class, so I would recommend going. Not the best at giving clear information, a lot of questions are answered with "I'm not sure, it's not my specialty". Test questions are not written well, but I don't think that's Ririe's fault.
I enjoyed the Virology class with Brother Ririe. I learned a great deal about viruses and found his teaching style engaging and enjoyable. Attending the lectures is crucial. there are study guides available that are very helpful in preparing for exams. Brother Ririe is also very approachable and willing to meet outside of class.
Pretty meh professor, Lectures are helpful, but there are daily attendance quizzes that are worth points towards your grade that are unnecessarily vague and can be difficult to prep for. He prepared us well for the exams, but there are 5 case studies where he looks for very specific answers without giving you good resources to find them.
Professor Ririe is a solid teacher who makes microbiology engaging. The lectures are helpful, but the tests can be tricky. Attending class and using resources like Unstuck study and the free textbook are key to success. Overall, a worthwhile course if you put in the effort.
He's awesome and willing to meet outside of class. Only a few things on grades and most are exams that are short answer/essay in the testing center. Very interesting class but it takes a lot of work and attending lectures to do well on exams (expected for level 400 class). Group project at end of semester. Grades on attendance. Go to exam reviews!
Virology is a really hard class since you will study from a molecular view , however it is really interesting. I suggest to don't miss any class and study really well to the exam. Do not miss the review sessions with the TA because it is really helpful and will prepare you for the exams. In general brother Ririe is a great professor
This class was fun but at the same time demanding. It is a 400 class so don't expect an easy A. There are good resources like study guides and review session with the TA that you need to use if you want a good grade. Some lessons were really hard to follow but brother Ririe is willing to meet outside class and help you
