This is an awesome teacher. He gives all of your assignments at the beginning of the semester. You get extra credit if you come to every class, but the classes are always interesting to say the least. As long as you come to class you will pass the tests, because he goes over everything with you. I loved his class. I ended up taking for for 101,too.
this guy kicks ass, he is one of the best teachers. He is cool, relaxed and nice.
This teacher is cool, easy going, and helps the students a lot. He is always cracking jokes and keeping the students awake. Take it!!!
I took him for AIS 100, 101 and 102! Got all As for all his classes! All you got to do is be consistent in his class and memorize his study guide! Super duper easy class. I don't know what's wrong if you can't get A for his class! My favorite professor so far!
He is chilled, super nice guy. YOU SHOULD TAKE HIS CLASS!
Everything written about him is true! He is super friendly, clear on his lectures, and a cool cat wrapped in one. Anyone needing history credits should take this class instead of the bull they teach in U.S.History
Awesome teacher. Entertaining pretty much the whole way through class, even in lectures he takes a bit to crack sarcastic remarks. Great grading system. Really nice guy. Take this professor!
What a great professor! He is clear in his lectures and gives helpful study guides before exams. Didn't have much interest in AIS before but I learned a lot and now I'm really glad I took the class. Also, he's a younger guy (PhD student) and pretty cute too!
wow awesome teacher!! the most laid back teacher i've ever had no homework just a research paper due at the end of semester...be prepared to take lots of notes
He's super easy and really funny. He seems to want to be in class less than his students and lets you out early alot. Attendance is not mandatory but he'll give you extra credit for not missing. Super easy A.
Awesome teacher! Took him for AIS 101 & 102, back-to-back. His class is pretty easy if you show up, STUDY THE STUDY GUIDE, and do the 1 research paper he assigns. If you need a way to meet the multi-cultural requirement or history requirement, definitely take his class. You will not be disappointed! I got A's in both his AIS 101 & 102 classes.
What a trip. Seth is an awesome professor. I was only taking the class to meet my history and multicultural requirements quicker. He made it really interesting. Use the study guides he gives out and ask him for the crossword puzzle. If you pay attention you can get an A in his class. I'm taking him for 102 in the fall. Seth is the best!!!!!!!!!
Seth is informative, encouraging and a true funnyman which makes learning about this subject easier to swallow.
Simply put, the guy is hilarious and just really, really cool. However, if you're really interested in the subject, you'll probably need to do more of an in-depth study of it yourself. The tests are insanely easy.
Great teacher, unorothodox style, very informative and enjoyable.
Great teacher, very informative and enjoyable.
Seth is so cool. He is a really sarcastic kind of guy, but that is what made him so cool. He takes as good as he gives. He is not afraid to be politically incorrect if it makes the class more interesting. The study guides really help you to pass the tests. You write one research paper at the end and have one midterm and the final. Awesome guy!!!
Really thorough teacher. He likes to joke around a lot but it never takes away. He is really helpful when you have any questions. I'd recommend him to anyone unless you are adverse to swearing
I took both AIS 101 & 102 back to back. Great teacher, great guy, entertaining. I had no initial interest in AIS, but I took a lot away from his classes. Study guides are a must!
Seth is an awesome professor, he is really about what he teaches and includes humor to make the class more enjoyable. One of my top 3 favorite professors or teachers of all time. He is full of knowledge as well as sincere in his ability to help a student. I am taking AIS 101 with him and will take 102 in the Spring with him.
Took 101 over summer.. Easiest thing I've ever taken. Now taking 102 and still very easy. 101 is a lot better than 102 (more interesting) make sure you attend and do the crosswords, youll pass with flying colors
Funny guy. Fun class. Makes the class enjoyable. Gave us a book review but overall easy.
Chill professor. His lectures are not bad at all because of his enthusiasm and sense of humor. I actually enjoyed coming to class. Put in the work and you will do well.
Seth was very laid-back. His jokes kept the class engaged and his lectures could have been much worse. Only assignment during the summer was 1 book review. Both the mid-term and final were given online!
LOVE THIS PROFESSOR! currently enrolled for fall 2011 he is SO funny going to class is always fun you will laugh. really easy class, lectures are to the point, low use of the book, always lets us out early highly recommend him
I took his class both for 101 And currently in 102. He keeps you engaged in the class discussions and always make it easy to follow along. Take notes and come to class and you will pass his class!!
He's really funny and keeps things interesting, but the only downfall is that you have to attend his classes even though he doesn't mind that you do not show up or that your late, but the notes are all on power point and if you missed his class your out of luck! For homework, he gave a book and we had to write a summary of each chapter.
Seth was very knowledgeable in the subject. He made the class interesting, informative and fun all at the same time. I would recommend him to others.
San Juan is probably the chillest professor I've ever taken at Palomar. He's funny, sarcastic and just an all-around cool guy. Make sure you actually go to class because it helps. The tests and the quizes are online and we have one research paper at the end of the semester. I'm definitely taking him next semester for 102.
He's a funny and passionate teacher. The subject matter itself is very interesting but he challenges you to look beyond the facts and textbook and form your own opinions about it. "History is an argument". Down to earth and laid back. Tests are 99% lecture based. Doesn't hurt that he's very cute. ^_~ Easy A if you pay attention.
Seth is a good guy, he's got a good sense of humor. This class is an easy A. However, his teaching ethic is terrible. He reads directly from his power points which makes for a very boring class, he doesn't respond to emails, he's not very helpful at all. I took AIS 100 last year and LOVED it, but I did not enjoy his class at all.
Easy A as long as you take notes on his powerpoint lecture. Attendance not mandatory (~4 random attendance checks). Many extra credit opportunities. If you go to class, you don't need the textbook. Online quizzes/tests. 1 term paper. Suggest taking w/ a friend if you can. Would recommend taking his class.
Seth is awesome! Easy A, tells you exactly what to do, easy assignments, really funny, makes class interesting. HIGHLY Recommend!
Seth is the best teacher ive ever had! He's hilarous and always makes lectures fun and interesting. easy course. and tells you exactly everything you need to do for his class on the first day of class. and he's kinda Hot! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Seth is a great professor, clear, understanding and thorough. I am much more passionate about this subject after taking Seth's class.
Such a fun funny teacher! Fairly easy class as long as you take notes. SERIOUSLY write everything down since it will all be on the mid term and final. No tests or quiz's but a few group discussions about text book and book. He is very knowledgeable in the subject! glad I took this for my History credit.
Seriously, if you cant get Seth's class, then hold off and wait until you can get him. Lets you know exactly what to expect, I personally used my book once. Just take down all the notes, you will need them.
I took AIS just to fulfill my AA requirements and did not expect to enjoy this class so much. Learned a ton and changed my understanding and perspective on things. The x-marks book is academic reading level so reading skills are a must as you have to write journal papers on it. Funny lectures! Passionate and overall awesome.
So much reading. Not my thing but if it's yours you should do well. He assigns like 50 pages a week and you either take a quiz or post to the discussion board. He's actually a pretty easy grader on free responses but the text was so boring and he gave us really bad copies of pdfs of really long articles to read. Not very good about emailing back.
Awesome teacher. All tests are online. Didn't even read the textbook, got 100% on both Midterm and Final. There is a paper to write, but he will edit a rough draft. Take good notes and class and you will get an easy A.
Seths a super cool teacher, he's young but really passionate about American Indian Studies. Show up to class, pay attention, do the small amount of homework he assigns. Take the midterm and final. Easy class if you put in the work. Lets out of class early sometimes. I would take seth again, he really helps his students out!
He's a great guy but as far a teaching, he could do a lot better. He has humor and makes the subject interesting but in terms of teaching the material, he could do a lot better. Be sure to do the 5 journal entries as soon as possible so you won't have to worry about them later on, take good notes, and have a study buddy with you.
He made the class very interesting and he is always there to answer questions or make things more clear. I would highly recommend taking him for your AIS classes.
He is awesome. He loves Indian studies, and all his tests are online. Very funny, but lectures got to be very long. You'll get out early a lot which was nice. Have to do reading responses, which were easy. Very easy class, ver cool teacher. Super laid back. If you get offended easily and don;t like cussing. Do not take.
He's a great person, very likable and funny (he does curse a lot), but the lectures can be very long and boring. Participation isn't required. Most people get by without saying a single word the whole semester. Technically, there's weekly reading, but it's never discussed so you don't even need to do it, unless you need to do your five summaries.
Seth is passionate on American Indian studies. He was very engaging in his lecture. He very witty and humorous. His class/lecture are long. take notes because they'll be on exam and final. Recommend to do your work to get good grade and a study partner :) . I would definitely take his class again!
2 exams, 1 research paper, 5 short summaries. Easy class, didn't use textbook once. Lots of articles to read but rarely discussed in class. Didn't like professor for personal reasons. Heavy use of profanity was quite unprofessional, kept saying how much he didn't want to be there and neither did I. Literally takes weeks to grade assignments.
Great guy genuine rational logical he can reach anyone on any maturity level can handle big mouth ignorant types w/o it effecting him or the class negatively makes the material interesting and retainable for all types and levels open to all questions very approachable and fair above all. He tells it how it is, which is a gift in these days.
He really good teacher, really helpful, and caring. I would take his class again!
Awesome teacher. Super easy class.... I received an A. Use your textbook for quizzes and midterm. Final exam will include textbook readings as well as questions from the power point slides. Assignments include 2 short essays and a 5-7 page policy research essay but super easy grader. As long as you do the assignments it's an easy A.
The class is easy. However his statement that you can, "email me at anytime to ask a question" should come with the warning that though you email him, he will not respond.
He is a great professor. Very fair as well as funny and interested, would recommend.
Great guy! sometimes leaves feedback on your work, interesting class!
Took his class at CSUSM, easiest professor ever. Tests are open book, we only had one midterm and an extra credit final. We had one 5 page policy paper of your own choice and 5 article reading responses. Policy paper requires research but it isn't too bad. Take him if you can!
Seth is funny and easy going. His lectures are him impatiently skipping through his own slides, ranting about an Indian Political issue, telling an unrelated story, and repeating that process. Despite that, I learned a lot! You don't need a book. All of the reading you need for assignments will be posted online. Tests are open-book!
Excellent teacher ! Take him
I am an international student and find this class esay A. Seth is a wonderful professor, all his quiz and test comes from his lecture. I would recommend print out the lecture before the class and take notes I got a grade about 97. His midterm and final are take-home, we work with classmates at class on the final. Don't stress out the paper, easy A
Seriously love this teacher not only does he make it so easy to pass he's very entertaining to listen to. I don't mind coming to class because he's so funny and makes the material easy to understand. Lets you work with friends on tests. HIGHLY recommend him.
This class was very informative and straightforward. He does podcasts to explain the material which is really helpful. Not too much work, discussion board posts and/or short quizzes. Unlimited attempts on quizzes. A midterm and final and one major paper. Very easy if you read the material. Highly recommend, he's super laid back!
If you show up for class ,take notes, and read the books you will get an A! Great lectures, he is honest, open, and funny. You will learn so much and be interested the whole time. Best professor!! make sure not to wait until the last minute to do the essay. Also, know when you need to write the chapter reviews and turn them in. Extra credit avail...
Online class was easy to understand and pass. He's grading is lenient and chill. The discussion board posts are straightforward to do. The textbook and lecture notes help a lot on the quizzes and exam. The final paper is easy. Highly recommend this class.
Super funny, chill guy. Keeps lectures interesting, and fun. Take notes and read the text and articles and youre straight.
Really cool guy, and by far one of the best teachers I have ever had here at Palomar. Really smart and makes the class interesting.
Hes pretty chillwill get an easy A if you show up and take notes
goodod
We had to do 5 short article summaries and one 5-7 page policy paper. He's a very easy grader so don't stress. During class, make sure to copy the power point slides that he lectures off of because they will be the answers on the online midterm/final. Overall, an easy A class!
I took this class as a fast-track/online. It requires a lot of reading within the allotted time. There is a required discussion board post every week. Two film responses and the final paper is 5-7 pages. An Easy-A if all the readings are done.
It is not a hard class if you put in the time, quizzes and essays were not that hard but did not understand what he used for the tests, did not know what exactly to study. Only one extra credit opportunity, last essay dropped my grade from low A to high B and would not help round up your grade if you have a 89.7
First time ever taking him for 102 and would take again if I could. 102 focuses mainly on Indian Law and SCOTUS cases. He never fails to make the class laugh and is very approachable. One of my favorite professors at Palomar for sure!
Professor San Juan is the kind of teacher that colleges need more of. He would joke a lot in class, but at the end of the day truly cares about what he teaches. Classes were a good mix of entertaining and informative. I recommend taking any of his American Indian Studies classes if you want to learn about Natives in a funny laid back atmosphere.
Hilarious teacher. Got off topic with funny stories and with present events going on in the world. Just 5 read and summarize assignments and a 5-7 page essay for the entire semester, midterm and final exams were both taken online. His powerpoint presentations are the answers on his 2 exams so take notes!!
This is the 2nd class I've taken of his and he's absolutely 1 of my fav professors. I took 102 because I needed it to transfer & ended up taking 101 this semester because I really enjoyed his class and knew I would miss his sarcastic personality. 101 and 102 are both EASY if you read the lectures. He's honestly so chill and funny. RECOMMEND!
I took the AIS 102 politics class for 4 weeks. extremely easy for an average student. I bought the book but didn't use it as everything can easily be found online. Unnecessary to read each chapter, just look up court cases for the tests. Tests have multiple attempts and unlimited time. I still learned a lot and enjoyed the class. great prof.
If you want a chance to see history from a fresh perspective, take on of Prof. San Juan's courses (or all)! Through his funny and engaging lectures, students are taught the history of Natives in the US, taught from a perspective of First Nations. Honestly, one of the best professors I've had over six years!
I really liked him. The online class was great. He's super chill, but expects effort to be put in. The content of the class was highly informative. You have to write one paper and many discussion posts. If you are engaged, it's an easy A.
This was my second Indian class with him. I really did enjoy the online format. The content was more American Indian Law. Even though I didn't have a concept of law before this class, it was quite interesting. If you put in the effort, it's an easy A. Good luck.
Had him for summer '21 and the material is not hard. You read mainly from a textbook (i used an ebook rental) but he will also link other texts to read. One weekly overview quiz (which can sometimes be a part of your midterm/final). The only challenge was getting over the reading part of the hw.
Do not take him, you'll regret.
I took AIS101 over the winter intermission and I loved this class. There are weekly 10 question multiple choice quizzes, discussion boards, a midterm, a final, and a movie review. The movie review was only a few hundred words and super straightforward. The quiz questions come straight out of the book. Final and MIdterm were multiple choice too.
Took the 4-week for Summer '21 and though the reading portion occasionally felt lengthy, it was quite interesting after I was finished. Had a weekly discussion post and replies; I also took him while working two part-time jobs (if you have concerns about working too) Exactly how I expected the summer course to go, no surprises.
Professor San Juan's class provided a historical framework that is now essential in my understanding of U.S. history. Great reading but lots of it, compounded slightly by disorganization, but the info is incredible and worth the effort.
I took the four week AIS 102 class and I was astounded how little work was required. The grading criteria is clear and as long as you stick to it, youll do well.
Easy class online. I read the textbook and didn't need to watch the lectures. Fast and fair grader. All assignments are pretty easy. The hardest work will be a 5-page paper due at the end of the semester. 10/10 would take again.
While his course is straightforward and pretty easy, my only complaint is his responses. I have emailed him multiple times and he rarely gets back to me. And if he does its always a short responses, which is nice sometimes until you actually need the input. But the textbook can be found online for free which is nice.
Amazing professor, overall one of the best teachers that I have had at Palomar. He is super funny, his lectures are very engaging, and he is clear on what he wants. Very chill grader with a mid-term and final test that was online. One final paper that was 5-6 pages, but it was very easy. Highly recommend taking this class!
class was half online half in person but felt like it was more online. very few assignments and lectures are very entertaining and educational! you can tell he's very passionate about this class, and even makes jokes throughout the class. assignments were due about every other week and only about 8 total! recommend this professor!
Took the 8-week online class. READ the book since the test questions are very specific. His lectures are good, but too general. Weekly quizzes and discussions. Plus, a midterm, final, 7 page research paper, and a movie review for extra credit. Lots of reading! Overall, great class and I really learned a lot!
I took this professor's 4-week class in the spring. There were 4 Discussions and 4 quizzes each week, a midterm (MC and 4 Written responses), a final (all multiple choice), and a 2-page paper. Had a clear grading structure (make sure there is Significance about the topic). Definitely would take this professor again!
One of the best classes. I ended up taking this course because I had failed CS so many times to the point I couldnt take it. I wish I would've taken it sooner. Everything is self explanatory, as long as you do assignments you will do great in his class. You will get 100% as long as you turn it in. Take his class, he has 5/5 for a reason!
Was very easy, easy A. Everything is laid out, same routine every week. discussion post. one assignment. then a quiz. He gives 1 extra credit assignment. easy grader/grades fast. instructor horrible with answering. he has zoom days if you need help, doesn't seem approachable. EVERYONE emailed him 8+ times with questions/help. NEVER got a response.
Super easy class! I took his online course during fall and honestly I thought that it was going to be complicated, his class consist of 4 quizzes, 4 discussions, the Midterm, final exam and at the end a documentary film response. it sounds a lot but all the assignments are EASY I promise !!!
Great class, assignments were straightforward, and sometimes a lot of reading or a long video to watch. There weren't many assignments overall, so try to do well on all of them for a good grade.
Took Professor Juans course last semester so I kind of forgot what was included in his course work. I remember him being very informative and the coursework being very easy whenever I listened to his short lectures. Would take again due to how low stress it was.
I took this class online, and it was great! It was very manageable with my other classes I was taking, but also learned so many new things. There are weekly assignments and a few quizzes and tests. Overall it was a great course and he is very clear on grading and assignments. The videos and passages are intuitive and fascinating! 10/10!
Lots of typos and publishing issues for Canvas content across both courses, had to email him every other week. A lot of reading across both classes, sometimes up to 120 pages in a week for just one class, with quiz questions on things discussed in one or two sentences in the middle of large paragraphs. He's probably great in person, but not online.
Although the reading assignments are heavy, this class is graded by few things. There are 4 DBs, 4 Quizzes, 1 Midterm (multiple choice and 4 written response), 1 Final exam (all multiple choice), and 1 Documentary Film Response (2-3 pgs) so make sure to try your best. Do not have to fully read the chapters since you can look up the court cases.
Professor Juan was amazing. I took his 4-week class and it was manageable while working full time! His grading criteria was clear and I enjoyed his exams and homework. Read your chapters and you will be just fine. Be aware of the movie critique and start early! I still have to take AIS 102 and I will try to take him again!
Do the reading and article responses to pass, no zoom calls which I enjoyed. A week to turn in our assignments through CANVA. He provided voice lectures and PowerPoints which helped a lot. Quick responder. Participation is required for discussions. Overall, he's very chill and recommend it for those looking for an ethnics class. Extra film credit.
Amazing class to take
Wonderful class and very chill professor. Lectures are quite entertaining and help with the reflection papers. These papers are ok but sometimes the prompt makes it difficult to reach the word count. Professor San Juan is really cool guy and quite accessible, tests and quizzes are fully online.
Easy class with an even easier going prof. As long as you do the assignments and are ready to read quite a lot, its pretty hard not to get an A. I do wish the assignments that required reading had the links embedded within them instead of having to sift through the modules or syllabus. Very down to earth, provides good feedback, and cares a lot.
Good professor that chooses a lot of really interesting material as coursework (but, again, *a lot* of it.) The textbook he uses is very "legalistic" per se, it definitely focuses on the legal and constitutional aspects of American Indian society, but I still found it very interesting (even if the reading was pretty dense)
I took the course online, so I didn't have any contact with Professor San Juan outside of a few E-Mails, but it was a good class to take for credit. Plus, the history is fascinating. The only issue for me was trying to memorize all the case law, but that varies from person to person.
Professor Seth San Juan didn't answer any of the emails I sent to him which was annoying because I had multiple questions about certain topics. Overall, an easy class but don't forget to read the rubric for each assignment.
Lots of reading, not just from the textbook but additional articles. The quizzes are simple and questions are occasionally seen on the midterm and exam. Discussion posts and response papers aren't graded too harshly and are easy to complete. A good online class. He would post a week overview through announcements to outline coursework for the week.
The Prof is hilarious but also does great putting political events into perspective. The quizzes are really easy because you can do them at home online (open book) and because it follows the book really well. There are a few article responses but he's an easy grader. Definitely take his course! P.S. He ends almost every sentence with "... Right?"🤣
SUCH an easy class, attendance not mandatory, a quiz every 2 weeks that's online and EASY, as well as a very short paper. He grades very easily and all exams are online with unlimited time to complete through Canvas. I never used the textbook, but I know he has one just in case. Hes really chill funny, and cares. Definitely my easiest course.
