Can you speak english please? Because he can't. PERIOD.
He is very helpful and gives great examples. He posts practice tests that are almost exactly the same as the tests. His HW problems are also used as test questions. he has a deep accent so he can be hard to understand.
He has a terrible accent, you need subtitles for his class...He is a nice guy but just very difficult to understand you need to put 120% attention in order to get what he is saying.. even the simplest things will look like a foreing language.
Very hard to understand because of his accent but he is a very fair grader
very hard to understand, but very sweet, fair and detailed.can get boring, but he is a very fair grader.
his class was well explained, but do NOT ask questions...he will luagh at you. He has a lot of little things to help you out such as posted sample tests and problems; however, the class is not necessarily easy. You MUST go to class, but if you do that and practice using his problems, you'll be OK
No english? what?!!! how can he teach if he can't communicate?? It is terrible he is a nice man i admit but his accent kills it all.... do not take him the class is hard enough as to have another problem due to his terrible accent..
Very helpfull teacher, his accent isnt all that bad, most helpt full teacher. Pretty funny guy, math class with him might be a little hard, but over all a great teacher. I would take him again if I had too.
He is one of the best teacher. I learned alot from his lecture. I got an A..,
He is a bed teacher. Don't take his class.
Hard grader. Basically reads power point slides and does not help to make challenging material easy. Also thick accent but not too hard to understand
avoid him if possible. hard to understand and not very helpful, even if you come to his office
He is only nice for gateway because he doesn't know much about it, if u take him for SOM them beware.. cause he is a horrible teacher that is his subject.. too bad he is the only one teaching SOM 416.. there should be someone else
Pretty good teacher considering the material is about as interesting as watching grass grow. He has an accent, but it's really not as terrible as others have claimed (I've certainly heard much worse at CSUN). He encourages questions, and as others have said, he is a very fair grader.
Very nice guy who wants his students to succeed. I'm not a math person, so this class was difficult for me, and at first I found him hard to understand. But he genuinely wants to help, so he gives practice tests which he goes over in class and will answer your questions by email or at his office hours.
excellent teacher...very thorough
very nice and helpful teacher. mainly PPT lecture. 2mid-terms, 1 final, 5 homeworks. not too hard if you understand his lecture. attendance is also important. he has a sense of humor too...
He is an ok teacher, but hard to understand.
He is a fair grader. 5 homeworks, 1 written assignment, 2 mid-term and 1 final. He is very helpful.
He is a very nice person. Lectures are based on slides (which are very clear and helpful). 5 homeworks, 2 midterm, and final. Just follow step by step (solving problems), you will getan A.
Heavy accent. Nice teacher and very willing to help during office hours. You will pass the class just do all the hw and go to class, grades on a curve but won't tell you that.
Very condescending to students if they answer his questions incorrectly or if they make comments or suggestions. Very boring, uninteresting class that is relatively easy to pass. Beware of exam questions that are not from the textbook or notes but from in-class exercises/demonstrations.
Not doing well in the class. But I understand the material. Basd of 2 MC and final. Really awesome teacher. You learn alot if you come to class and pay attention. He is a very nice young man, 5 homework assignments in total. recommending him. He's great teacher and easy to understand. LOTS OF MATH
He teaches well but his tests are kind of hard. His 5 homework assignments are short and fairly simple but he does check them carefully and will grade you down if you get the wrong answer. The only thing I didn't like is that he is not helpful at all if you have any questions about the group project.
The best teacher and class i had. He explains very clearly, gives you real life examples and tells why it's important. do homework problems, go to class, and pay attention. his ppl are available online. Try to pay attention and get the problems that he does in class. Tells what's going to be on the best, but u have to get the material, lots of math
His English is very difficult to understand and is very unresponsive to questions. Presentation skills aren't that great --- he would constantly switch to using the same board by pulling up and down the motorized projector which took a lot of time and was very distracting.
Had nightmares about this class, and hated statistics, however after taking it with him, i realized that he's the best choice for this class, trust me on this, explains better than any professor, very helpful, ya he has an accent but its not like other say, most of the students do and teachers and we still get them, get it u live in CA, hello!!!!!
Prof Paik is fantastic. He does have an accent, however he is not difficult to understand at all. His lectures are very clear and is more than willing to answer any questions. In fact, he often asks students what they think the answer is to keep the student's on their feet. If the student does their homework, they should get a good grade.
not that hard to understand-Paik is nice guy-class all group work w/ cases (econ, stats, bus law &accounting) class req. lots of team work- I had anxiety attacks over class- Paik's grading did not seem fair- like he hates to give A's. Two profs teaching class makes it difficult- req. class seems like waste of time & attempt for CSU to make more $$$
Doesn't give out an A, grades hard on paper. Goes over every word and will make correction. Class is not that hard as long asyou get good group. He don't teach this class offten so he don't know much
He dont teach gateway much so pretty easy will go over each line and will correct every error he finds. Seems he will not give out A period. As long as u get good group class is pretty easy, this class is all group work so that will make the biggest difference how hard or easy the class will be. He doesn't really answer questions that well.
He is a really nice, helpful teacher. Has a bit of an accent which at times is difficult to understand, but he knows his subject very well and tries hard to get his point across. A lot of reports and presentations, but overall a GREAT learning experience. Good grader as well, but you have to work for it!
Pretty good teacher, exams are hard, do the the homework and extra credit, and attend class...then it shouldnt be so bad, but pay attention to lectures and exercises
Has an accent, but he's easy to understand. Excellent teacher. Really knows his stuff. I didn't get the book so I screwed up the homework and missed 4 out of the 5 quizzes. Got an A and B on the first midterms and BOMBED the final. Ended up with a C-. Do all the homework, arrive on time for the quizzes, practice the material and you'll do fine.
Prof. is very kind and knowledgeable about the class. For SOM Major, he is one of the best teacher around. He has an accent but his lecture is pretty decent and straightforward. A lot of work (term papers) and group projects. Exams consist of multiple choice and short essays. Take this class if you are a SOM major!
This professor is absolutely terrible. As a recently graduated senior, I have had the pleasure to have many excellent teachers. He is NOT one of them. His thick accent alienates students during lectures. It is too hard to pay attention. His tests are multiple choice and contain too few questions. His tests are dissimilar to the practice tests and HW
Not the best professor, but definitely not the worst. Received a B+. Study powerpoint slides, listen to lectures, take notes. Book valuable, but isn't very good at explaining sometimes. Professor accent slightly difficult to understand and doesn't answer questions very well. Know your statistics somewhat. Ultimately the class isn't that bad.
This class is easy. There are two m/c midterms and a m/c final. Around 20 questions. Five hw. Attend class and study the slides. Even though he has an accent I still understood him well.
Covers interesting concepts in class
VERY DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND. He has a thick accent which can become annoying. In any event, although scoring low on the midterm I managed to get a C which I was not expecting especially since I almost gave up on that class mid-semester.
Heavy, heavy asian man accent. Moderately difficult professor. Will sometimes give extra credit for going to SOM related events. I learned the most on my own studying the notes and doing the homework and not from the book or his incoherent lectures. Nice guy though but takes off points for late homework (even 5 minutes late)
his accent is not even that bad. you can pass the class even if u failed the midterms because thats what happened to me. but its probably because i did everything else and came to class everyday. he seems like a hard grader at first but he says that if you show improvement, he ups your grade to the next grade up.
People need to stop nagging about his accent. If your a business major, welcome to the real world, where ignorance to understanding people/accents is key. The fact that he has an accent makes him explain things better into more simpler terms.
he expects you to improve.Got a D and D on the first midterms and C on the paper.Ended up with a B.
A really great teacher to have for SOM if you major in it or not. He does have an accent, but you can get used to it quickly. He explains things clearly and if you just follow along, you can pass with a good grade. Tests are straight forward and homework is not difficult. Take him if you can!
Great prof! Print out the slides, come to class, take notes and you'll do fine. He's a smart guy and knows his subject.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. He is very hard to understand and does not do a good job of helping the students understand the material. The test's are almost impossible. Do NOT take this guy's class.
Do not take. He is so hard to understand. I tried to go see him for help and he doesn't help at all! he says simply to look at the book or powerpoint slides which was no help. If a student want help teachers should help!! He expects you to be an expert in this subject do not recommend.
Well, the user below must be a complete moron because Professor Paik is an amazing professor and the class is not hard! The tests are all straightforward, everything he asks is talked about in class. He even gives you a formula sheet! As for the accent, it's not bad at all, get used to it and lose the ethnocentrism. I recommend him a million times!
I took a graduate level management class for MBA students. Dr. Paik is very knowlegable in his field. He explains concepts clearly and hands out his lectures. He is a fair grader. Tests were hard but fair. Case studies were very useful. He is a great teacher - I learned a lot.
this guy should be fired!! Can't speak English whatsoever! You can't listen to him for full 1 minute! Besides his accent he is pain in the a** Does not teach and tests are very hard!!! whenever you go to his office he will tell you don't worry just go have lunch and party at nights. I mean he is just not a professor he has no qualification to teach
I have an advice for this guy. Quit teaching go to community college and start from ESL 2
He is hard to understand. I had him every Friday for 3 hours. His tests are hard. DO ALL HW, and do good on the case. I failed 1st test, got a B on 2nd, got an A on the case, got 10's on all HW and was never absent. IDK how I did on my final, but I got a C. study real hard, and test is similar to HW questions/class exercises. He's not very helpful
For teaching a difficult subject, I thought he was a great professor. His accent is hard to understand but if you go to all the class, write good notes and do the homework, you will get a good grade in the class. I bombed the first midterm but did better on the final and he gave me credit for showing improvement.
He barely speaks English. The class average at this point on each test is around 15 out of 25 questions for the 2 midterms so far. He has us turn in a written report during the semester (3 pages) of which he will not understand unless you make sure to use keywords that he has memorized in order to give a semi-illusion of English comprehension.
By the final exam I finally figured out how to take his exams. Whatever he covers in depth is barely gonna be on his tests. Make sure to study the information from his slides that he barely covers in class. Remember, if he talks about a topic for an hour then disregard. If he talks about it for a second then make sure to memorize it thoroughly.
One of the worst teachers I have ever seen. He did not teach, all that happened in his class was him practice his horrible english speaking skills by saying word for word powerpoint slides. He repeated everything he said 3 times. He has pop quizzes at the end of class so no one leaves and 2 midterms, final and a group project. DONT TAKE
Prof. Paik is better than people are making him out to be. he may be hard to understand at times, but he repeats things many times to emphasize the important things in his lectures. Since the book isn't used much, you have got to go to class. two midterms, one final, one case problem. no homework. he made a difficult subject, relevant.
He has a heavy accent but is a nice guy. I hate his quizes and his mandatory attendance. Honestly i learned everything myself at home. It's an easy class though. So very boring though! No book, just review the slides before class in case he gives you a quiz.
HORRIBLE!!!! His tests are completely different from what he goes over in his lectures. Doesn't know how to teach.Avoid!
I took his class for business honors. His tests are not hard so long as you study the right material. Make sure to write down what he says in class, especially meanings/point of topic. DO THE BOOK EXERCISES HE RECOMMENDS! Tests mirrors these problems. Tests are M/C but can be tricky. No HW! Overall nice guy & tries to be helpful in office hours!
2 midterms, final, 10 quizes, 1 group case. Grading is very straight forward. Class is painfully boring. Professor is no help at all, not even in office hours. very condescending. Must go to class to learn how to do problems but as for lecture read it your self. Post all ppt online.
Must go to all classes. At least 10 pop quizzes will be given. Tests are hard taken from PP, lecture and book. He claims there is a curve, going to fight my grade because I scored higher than a C. Heavy accent, and unfair grader. I Don't recommend which is sad because he seems to know a lot about SOM.
Paik is a very good professor! He explains everything very clearly. He does have an accent, but if you pay attention you will understand him well.English is not my first language and I understood him. Make sure you review the notes from his lectures. The group project is impossible to do without a tutor, I thought it was unfair. I would take him!
Worst professor I've ever had in my entire life! Not only is he impossible to understand, but he makes the class impossible to pass. The mid-termS had nothing to do with anything he ever went over. He gave me a fail on my project because I didn't include one formula. When I went to his office hours he pretty much told me tough luck, life sucks.
Terrible class. Professor is actually decent, teachers subject well and makes understanding easy. However, exams are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT than what he lectures, the problems are unbelievably difficult and presented nothing like they are in the lectures. My group made an awesome project, and he failed us cause of 1 miscalculation. do no recommend.
This is basically another statistics class with integrated concepts. You don't need to buy the book but you do need it for the examples. Although accented, very clear instructor. Exams are tought but I learned a lot. He's much easier than some of the other professors I've heard horror stories about. Attend class! It will help you.
Contrary to what others may say, very good instructor. There are a lot of other instructors out there that are terrible. Paik deconstructs operations management even though the content is very boring. Paik uses examples that show up on the exams. 2 midterms, 1 final, 1 group project, and participation points. The final is go up one letter grade.
He is incredibly hard to understand due to his language barrier. Gives quizes almost every week or every other week. Exams are hard.
This guy is tough to understand and very bureaucratic. MGT 306 was not enjoyable, but it is fairly easy to get an A. just don't expect to learn much. So-so professor.
Don't be lazy, if you do the practice problems and go over the slides then you will do just fine :) His exams are difficult but reasonable. If you're expecting an easy A, this is not for you.
Paik is a good teacher. He has an accent but if you focus and pay attention you can understand him. Print out the PPT slides and take good notes in class. For exams do ALL the ASSIGNED PRACTICE PROBLEMS in the BOOK and study the slides. If you do this you will be fine. If you don't you wont. Exams are 75% math calculations and 25% conceptsterms.
He is such a good professor. there are two midterms and final. There are around 78 pop quizzes, but easy to pass over 8090%. even though he has an accent, you guys can understand what he says. if you study hard, you can pass with B+ or Over A-. Strongly recommend him to take SOM 306.
Got an A-. Takes attendance and gives pop quizzes at the end of classes. No reading needed or HW. I put about 10-15 hours of studying in per test... skimmed examples in the book, reviewed PP notes, and did problems he had in syllabus & on moodle. Really STRONG accent, & awful teacher. Grade was curved from a B to an A- at the end of the semester.
Midterms come from practice problems and discussions in class. My biggest problem with this professor was that material on the final was not covered. What I mean is that the final had more complex versions of the easier problems assigned on the review and the practice problems. There was no prep for the complex problems assigned on the final.
7 pop quizzes (mostly concepts some math)-accent-3 tests w questions 10x harder than the ones taught in class (mostly math few concepts)-one project-final not cummulative-my first c+ out of 90 units (3.75 GPA)-maybe if i wasn't tired from my previous class???- tutor teaches better!
have heavy accent, you can't understand what he is saying and easy to get lost. if you ask him question, he won't answer you. He will ask you to find a tutor, he is the worst teacher i have ever met. irresponsible and gives pop quiz even though you take a midterm already. if you want to get a higher grade, must read book by yourself.
he is the suckest teacher i have ever met. He has a heavy accent, never explain the question when you got one. Give pop quizzes when you think there should be. He used to give 2 pop quizzes at the same time. Choose him wish you had good luck. Be ready to work everything out by yourself.
I attended every class and he gives out random quizzes. The quizzes are from the reading, but he asks for little details you tend to not remember or skip. The tests are crazy hard, i always did my work and did ok on the test and got a C. DO NOT TAKE!!
He has 7 pop quizzes which makes full attendance mandatory. He gave two pop quizzes in one class just to punish those who left early. His tests are difficult and his reviews are almost worthless. This was my first C in 100 units. A buddy took SOM306 online for an easy A. Not here, stay away from him if possible. If not be prepared for hard class.
Hard!!!!! Gives pop quizzes, has accent (not impossible to understand all the time), Test very difficult, Need a lot of time to study, I thought final was easier than 2 midterms, Good thing about this class is very Generous Curve! Got 55% on both midterms, still got a C+ in class. Study the powerpoints and do the book practice problems.
Strong accent. Pass close attention, it is necessary to pass. Follow PowerPoints and read topics in the textbook. Do practice problems and take good notes of problems given in the PowerPoints. Exams are about 60% problem solving and 40%conceptual. Final is about 80%problem solving and 20% conceptual. Quizzes affect final grade, study as you go.
Almost impossible for me to understand his lectures through his accent. I actually think it wouldnt be bad if he didnt use the microphone(it makes it worse for some reason) Giives practice problems with no solutions. Take good notes cause he wont give any extra help. Unclear if any reading is assigned.
I took him in Fall 2015. I thought that I was either going to get a C or a D. It turned out I got a B! I underestimated his class and didn't try as hard as I should have. To pass this class, please print out the PPT slides and be sure to be able to do all the problems. Be prepared for pop quizzes also. You'll pass if you understand the problems.
Great professor. Hard to understand. I suggest u use the tutoring sessions. 160 person class is hard to teach as a prof and learn in as a student. He always helps students out. VERY TOUGH CLASS BE PREPARED TO STRUGGLE. ITS REAL
Great Professor, great person. prof Paik is a straight forward professor. No tricks. His classes and expectations are very clear cut and he wants you to solve problems quickly. Be ready to work with numbers. If you pay attention and participate, the exam questions are given in class. Funny guy.
One of the worst class I've ever taken at CSUN. gets irritated when students asks questions. Makes you feel dumb just before you can barely understand his REALLY thick accent. When asked to explain it again, he tells you to read the textbook. My worst decision at CSUN was taking his class.
He is the worst professor I've ever had at CSUN! He encourages you to participate in class, but when you ask questions, he laughs at you or just makes you think your dumb. He teaches well, I guess, but he has a strong accent that makes it difficult to understand what hes saying. If you really want to learn from SOM306 then I suggest you avoid him
This professor will damage your GPA. Extremely hard to understand. Hard to follow instructions. Tests are quite difficult even if you study the material. Pop quizzes are random and all from previous lecture notes, not that hard. Attendance is mandatory and very boring lecture. This was by far the worst professor I had at CSUN. Avoid this class.
Attendance is mandatory, he checks it. He only gives out extra credit by choosing random students to give it out to in the beginning of class. 2 midterms, 1 final, 1 case paper, and attendance is your grade. He is extremely rude, and does not care for his students. If you ask him a question during lecture he will laugh at you and not answer it.
He is a decent prof, but his accent at times hinders the learning process. I started to do better when I went to the tutors. When it comes to people asking questions, he responds in a very condescending manner. Then his case paper does not have very great directions. He does curve the class so I guess that could be a plus to somebody.
Although professor Paik has accent, his lectures are straight forward and fairly easy to understand. I highly recommend that you print out the powerpoints before going into class and take notes along the slides as he lectures. Make sure you do the hw and practice problems he gives out. Sometimes the questions on the tests are identical.
He has a heavy accent but he is very good at explaining. if you are a person that learns by listening, take him. He has 2 midterms, 6 quizes, random HW and a Final. Usually, on the midterms, the average is a fail but then he curves it. Should study the power point and listen in class, some of his questions in the quiz are from what he says in class
asked this professor one question the entire semester and he couldnt even answer me, not sure what he gets paid for. I dont think teaching is his strong suit, would not recommend.
BUS302L is an easy pass class. I didn't study and I passed the exams with at least a C, which is all you need.
not respectful, not inspirational, exams are very hard and that way he makes sure that everyone fails in the class, you ask one simple question and he cant even give you a proper answer, if you look for an easy SOM class or even someone to learn from I am suggesting you to stay away from this guy, terrible teacher, rudest teacher ever at CSUN.
This was taken for BUS302L and there was no meeting times just taking tests and you can view study material if you want. The exams are non-challenging, you are guaranteed to pass and even then you are given 3 tries for exam exam (6 of them). Take him
I do not believe he is the worst professor in the world, however for an entry level perquisite class, he has no idea how to teach, & explain simply the concepts. I would strongly advise if you care about your GPA & passing DO NOT take this class with him. You will fail. He laughs when you do not know what's going on. About 85% of my class failed.
Professor Paik is clear about his expectations. The grade is based on 2 midterms, 1 final and a couple of quizes plus attendance. He drops one quiz and curves the overall grades. People who don't do well don't listen to instructions. His practice problems for the midterm are very helpful and sometimes identical to what is on the tests.
not the best at all
Professor Paik is an excellent professor with a very fair, clear grading criteria. The class is based on 3 exams and some quizzes, with the lowest quiz grade getting dropped. As long as you go over his slides and practice problems, you will be golden. The practice problems are basically the same on the exam making the test fair and very doable.
super sweet prof. people who leave bad reviews are mad since they dont show up to class and expect an A. Som is not an easy subject but his tests are exactly what he lectures on. also gives practice problems that are identical to his problems on his tests. he has an accent but you will get used to it. if you dont understand, ASK HIM TO REPEAT!
Find another teacher or another school for this class to do for credit. This was the only teacher left for this class, so I took it and basically you're going to be sitting in class confuse the whole time not only you but the whole class. He doesn't curve at all even when our class had a 75% average. Not taking this class with him especially.
The professor's lecture structure was confusing, often spending too long on one topic and rushing others. Questions were sometimes met dismissively, and his accent plus unclear Zoom annotations made material harder to follow. Exams averaged 72% with no curve. He seems kind, but I wouldn't take his class again. Hybrid Class
Complicates everything. If u can avoid taking him please do. By far the most stressful course i have taken (i am a senior). Majority of the class has a D and he does not seem to care.
Really bad. Hard to understand him while he's talking, not good at applying real world scenarios to the material (kinda makes it seem like he's never used the material he teaches in real life), and grades based on pretty much exams only aside from 3 quizzes which will basically do nothing for your grade. Do not take this class. Save your GPA.
The whole class is very poorly designed. He teaches from slides and writes on them by using the computer and a digital penand you can't really understand it. Its like writing on slides with a mouse. I would absolutely avoid if possible
Do yourself a big favor and stay away. You will have the hardest semester of your entire life trying to understand a class in half English half Korean. Only has 2 midterms one final and 3 quizzes. We had classmates touching us instead of the professor through YouTube and we still all failed. DO NOT TAKE HIM! Class average was 64%
Honestly, I think most the class was failing or either was a false misrepresentation .. there were only 3 test and maybe 4 quizess.. no homework or assignments so your grade is basically based on tests only.. and his lectures were ok just hard to understand him , tests were a little complex if you did really really understand the review questions
2 mid term exams, one final and 3 to 4 quizzes throughout the semester. No hw so ur grade depends on the exams and quizzes. Half my class failed due to not being able to understand his English and writing so beware of that. He also overcomplicates the work even though it's such a simple topic/problem. Ur better off self teaching while in this class
