he would lecture all clas period and force the students to memorize every little detail about ASP. There was no lab time and the outsie of class homework assignments were brutal, complex and long. I do NOT recommend taking this course. And he wonders why MIS enrollment is gonig down the tubes....its bgecause of horrid classes and teachers like th
Not willing to help you with any code. One of the least friendly professors I have ever met. He tells you to come to him for help, you come, and he tells you to use the book and will send you away. Class was very hard unless you know all Visual Basic and web design(incl HTML,CSS,XML), as well as tons of SQL. Avoid this class at all costs.
This professor is tough, but fair in the end. He challenges MIS students who want to succeed and the lazy students tend to complain. If you show him that you will work hard, he will be a great resource to you.
This guy is fun, go have a beer w/ him
Great Prof! 70% of the grade is based on the 9 homework projects. They are quite challenging but he is very helpful. The exams are pretty easy. No coding involved. Lectures can get a little boring sometimes but not too bad. Just make sure to get a head start on the projects! i have stayed up till 3am finishing up projects before the deadline..
Great teacher. If you ever have a question he will help you right away in person or via email. Gives a lot of examples, although covers A LOT of stuff. Not an easy class whatsoever, but go to him for any help! Great guy!
He has a heavy accent which makes it difficult to understand him. He uses poor grammar in his tests and quizzes which makes it difficult to figure out what he wants you to do. He is somewhat rude and unprofessional...I wouldn't recommend this teacher.
Very rude. Heavy accent. I did well in the class because I knew the stuff prior to it. Tests are based off lectures and notes. Quizes based off nothing, but they are online. Will not help you with homework
Heavy accent. Couldn't understand him, so it sucked trying to figure out the quizzes and homework.
As long as you go to class and put effort into trying to understand him with his heavy accent, you'll be fine. I found that if you concentrate on what he's saying you'll understand him. He's a really nice guy if you show that you try in his class.
Very heavy accent, a nice guy if you talk to him outside of class. Homework is very long and tedious. Would not recommend as a teacher.
Nice guy, friendly, teaches hard subjects. You need to put in effort outside of class to pass his upper division courses. Don't be afraid to ask for help.
I think he's one of the harder FMIS teachers on campus. Once you get a hang of Expression Web 4 and FileZilla, it's not too bad and it can actually be kind of fun. Finishing the homework assignments can be stressful. Mac-users, prepare yourself for some stress...the software that's required for the class can't be used on Macs.
Seung is a nice guy and a good teacher, he just teaches hard material. You need to apply yourself if you're taking any MIS classes. The homework assignments are hard but he is a fair grader.
I learned a ton from this class and was by far my favorite class. The material is difficult, so if you don't understand ask questions. Seung will keep moving unless told to slow down
One of the friendliest professors I've ever had. The assignments can be difficult, but the instructions are very clear, and he is always willing to help. He can be hard to understand, but he's very down to earth.
Super nice guy! Always willing to help. He is very passionate about what he teaches. He can be hard to understand, though. Make sure you show up to class, or you will be very lost on the homework.
Note: I had no prior programming knowledge before taking this course, yet I did just fine. Seung is an excellent professor that teaches a course that has hard material concepts. Class is not mandatory but obviously if you skip you will be lost. Best class I've taken while at UMD, I learned a lot. Also, make sure you know what Google is.
Hardest class I've ever taken, coupled with his heavy accent made it nearly impossible. He comes off as incredibly rude so asking for help is difficult, even when you do he often doesn't answer the question you asked. Be prepared to teach yourself everything.
Absolutely impossible to understand, in class quizzes based off of random things that we never went over in class.
He made this class interesting, takes awhile to get used to his accent though. I learned a lot from this class and there is no other teacher that teaches it so he is your only option. Just don't plagiarize or copy another students work because he notices the smallest things and you will definitely get a bad grade and get in trouble.
Seung is a hard teacher, he is the only one who teaches this class. If you listen and pay attention you will understand what he wants. A lot of time outside of class is spent to do homework!
The worst professor I have ever had. His English is broken and is hard to understand. Who knows what he is even talking about. His quizzes and exams are impossible to get a good grade. There is no textbook and the TA is kept in the dark about everything. Avoid this professor at all costs!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. He is so vague with assignments, not helpful at all, and couldn't care less if you fail his class. He's a "too bad so sad" type of prof. I worked my butt off on assignments and still ended up with a bad grade. Do not take him is the best advice I could give someone. I hear there's way better FMIS profs.. take them!!!
Don't take this class!
My frustration for this class is annoyingly high. His class is unorganized with very little guidance on how to do anything and when he does need help you still have no idea what you are doing. He is rude and no helpful. He just expects you to know how to do things on the first try. If you value your sanity avoid this professor at all costs!
By far the worst professor I've ever had. A good grade is almost impossible to receive. I have put more effort into this class in comparison to my others and I have the lowest grade I've ever received in my academic career. He is disorganized and will change assignments last minute. Additionally, his accent is hard to understand.
His class is base on lectures and powerpoint/words. Difficult in that he doesn't use a textbook so Moodle will become your friend in this class. Gives a lot of small in class quiz and online tests so looking over materials the night before is helpful. Gives homeworks base on class materials so going to class is extremely helpful.
Seung is a good guy, if you listen to him, he is actually pretty funny. However, this is the hardest class Ive ever taken and my frustration level was extremely high all semester. Tests and homework assignments are long and difficult. I appreciate that he curves the class and sort of gave us some free points at the end to help everyones grade.
He's difficult and I can see why people in 2201 wouldn't like his class. If you're an MIS major and able to learn programming then you'll be fine. He's really funny and he'll like you if you work hard and don't complain.
Lee is hard because he teaches hard subjects for a lot of people. If you have a passion for computers or a MIS major should be fine. Hardest classes I have taken at UMD but most satisfying. Had him for VWP and AAD
Be prepared to download pointless programs on your computer. Be prepared for him to change him mind often. We started out semester assignment only to have him throw everything out that we did 6 weeks later. Such a frustrating class. His tests are pretty hard, not impossible but pretty hard.
Seung will hammer you on his quizzes and homework assignments, be prepared to basically teach yourself the course content. No textbook at least which is nice.
Seung comes off as a bad teacher because so many students talk bad about him because he is not a push over and makes you earn every point. I just graduated from the MIS program and can tell you this guy is actually really cool. Also, all he cares about is getting YOU a job! So say thank you when your done.
Seeing is a great person, knows his stuff very well. His classes can be confusing and definitely challenging, but if you put in the work you'll do fine. Projects and homework are great assessments, but the quizzes are extremely difficult.
Seung is an overall nice guy. It is very hard to overcome the accent he speaks with, so I recommend you try and sit close to the front. Don't get discouraged over poor scores on quizzes. There are 7 quizzes (including the final), and he usually ends up adding points to the score. Final was taken "at home"! It is challenging, but possible.
This class was definitely a struggle, but Seung Lee pulled through. Eventually he started putting our quizzes online, outside of class (including the final), which definitely helped the grade. The first month or so is horrible-his accent is hard to understand-but when you get to Excel the class is alright. Curves the final grade!
I thought IT in business was a pretty boring class but this professor made it bearable. Lectures can be long but he seems interested in what hes talking about and actually wants to see students succeed. Gives pop quizzes in class but they are for extra credit. Tests arent too hard, you should be able to pull an easy A on most as long as you read.
I thought Seung was a complete jackass. I would never take another class with him again.
Seung was an okay teacher, difficult to understand sometimes because of his accent, but understandable enough. His lectures dragged on which made it difficult for me to pay attention. His biggest downfall was making every homework assignment due Saturday at midnight. I missed two of them only because I made plans on the weekend.
You have to go to class due to the things he says and writes down on the board that aren't in the Powerpoints posted online, and he also takes attendance and offers extra credit pop quizzes. Thankfully he let us take almost all of the exams online or I don't know what I would've done. I went to his office a couple of times and he was very helpful.
I took this class my freshman year, as it is required for business majors; it was the worst decision of my life. Attendance is required, so I went to every class, but it was honestly a waste of my time. He would talk nonsense the whole period, and was very hard to understand because of his accent. All quizzes & exams are online, but very difficult.
Seung's a nice guy if a little aloof. I think his problem is he doesn't know the best way to reach everyone, especially non-MIS majors. As an MIS major, I thought Seung was great. He extended homework all the time and was really helpful if you went to his office hours. Give him a chance if you are tech savvy, but be prepared to work for your grade
First half of the class is pretty boring and easy to doze off too. The lectures are just repeating exactly what you learned in the free online videos and maybe already finished all the quizzes on. Second half was fine and really what you need to take away from the class (excel)
This class was a joke. It was an easy grade but I definitely did not learn anything. The whole class is basically online. You take quizzes that are due at the end of every other week. The quizzes can be hard. The second half of the class is based off of excel, which isn't too bad. He curved the overall grade at the end of the semester though.
Googles information in class because he doesn't know it, uses another professors videos to teach the class, tests are based on the videos not lecture, doesn't actually grade assignments just participation, bad attitude, unclear instructions for projects, unhelpful outside of class and in, self-confidence through the roof. Not an MIS Major? AVOID.
Honestly a super unfortunate class, he just sat and talked the whole time and nothing made sense. Gives an extra credit quiz every class for attendance so that was nice. His power points and what he was saying never correlated and his accent made him pretty hard to understand. Overall would not take him for this class.
Where do I start. The class itself is an online course with mandatory class attendance that is enforced with pop quizzes. Seung's teaching style is very slow and scatterbrained. After my father died he argued that I could not miss class because of it. I transferred out after that.
Worst professor I ever had. He takes attendance and his lectures do not AT ALL with the quizzes and exams. If you ask/email him a question, he doesn't respond and/or is very rude because he treats everyone like they're stupid. Just a very disrespectful person. Hope to never have a class with him again.
Probably the worst professor I have ever had. Doesn't teach, lectures aren't followable, and he's an ass. Topics in class don't pertain to quizzes and exams, and I haven't learned a damn thing. I strongly recommend to never EVER take a class with him if you don't have to.
Lecture is pointless, but he takes attendance and gives extra credit quizzes sometimes. He gives biweekly exams on videos from another professor, and when talking to him about the quizzes and exams, apparently he doesn't write those... If you watch the videos and take notes on them, you're fine, but some things aren't explained at all.
Seung is a really nice guy. He gives 2 questions pop quizzes most class days. Other days he takes attendance so you have to go to class. All of the tests are taken online & at home, but they are still pretty hard & not found online. The homework assignments he gives are a lot of work, but really bring your grade up so do them right & you'll do good
By far the worst professor I've ever had. Dreaded class every day. I didn't get a bad grade, but bottom line.... He suuuuucks so much.
The lectures suck, but you have to go otherwise he'll fail you. The videos don't make any sense and don't go with the quizzes or exams.
Honestly one of the worst profs I have had here. Worst grade I have ever gotten in my life. He is extremely uncooperative and unhelpful. You have to go to class for attendance and quiz's . I would not take him again or recommend him. Every 2 weeks you have 7+ quizes and an exam due on Sunday night. Also about 5 100 point projects over the semester
Seung Lee was a horrible professor. He had a very rude and disrespectful way of teaching. He would teach things in class that would not be on the test. Bi-weekly exams and 10-15 quizzes between each of those 2 weeks. Overall, I would avoid trying to take this class wth Lee. He makes the material much harder than it is set out to be.
Seung Lee is a really easy teacher, especially for FMIS 2201. Everything is online so it's a super easy A. The only downside is that you have to show up for class everyday because he does take attendance or gives out a pop quiz. He does have an accent but after awhile, it's not too bad.
His accent is really difficult to understand. If you miss class more than 10 times in the semester, you automatically fail. He keeps track of attendance very carefully. Lectures are boring and dry. Tests and quizzes are all related to the videos you have to watch outside of class.
Seung lee is nice guy, teaches hard material though. make sure you read a lot before coming to class and after class. no textbook needed.
I have taken a few classes with Seung, and I'm really not a fan of the way he formats his classes. He is very knowledgeable about the content, but you end up learning a majority of the material through Google. I recommend finding some friends in the class to collaborate with, but make sure you actually learn the content.
In class lectures are mostly useless. Online video lessons are where you learn the most. Go to class, shake your head and smile, but your simply there to get the attendance points and for pop quizzes. Take really good notes from the videos because the tests can be very difficult, he does curve, thankfully.
Seung Lee is a terrible professor, he seems to teach mostly through google and his quizzes/assignments are made unnecessarily difficult by crafting confusing questions that are not easy to follow at all. Avoid at all costs.
He is terrible, he told my friend that a funeral was not an emergency so he can suck it. also this class takes up 100% of your weekend. unnecessarily hard. can't understand him. he's boring and gives quizzes every class.
I took Seung Lee's class 4 years ago, and I still wake up most nights in a cold sweat panicking about the tests that we had absolutely no guidance for and the HTML project . The project took me around 24 hours in total to finish and most of it was done with the help of ITSS. Worst class and professor in my 4 years at UMD. For the love of god avoid!
Weekly excel assignments were the death of me. Instead of having the assignment open all week, he only has it open during the weekend, so you're entire weekend will be spent crying in front of your computer while eating ice cream and working on yet more excel problems. Ive had a legit nightmare about this class. Don't take him if you enjoy freetime
The class is super easy if you apply yourself and do the work. I work 30 hours a week at my job and still find time to do the excel assignments. The exams require a lot of studying and are fairly difficult, but that is how it should be. Students cheat way to often in this class and don't bother to try. Don't be lazy and you'll do just fine.
okay, i don't even know where to begin with this professor. his classes are so dry but you have to go because he gives out quizzes at the end, each exam has at least 300 slides of information you need to study and are worded unnecessarily difficult, and every sunday there is an excel due that is opened that day and takes all day- no joke.
Worst professor I have had at UMD so far. A whole lot of projects, assignments, and exams with no guidlines, yet grades very harsh. I went to his office hours and I have never been treated so disrespectfully. I was treated like I had never been to class and he gave me no help. When I took it, he gave 3 points extra credit for in class quizzes.
He provides no information of his own when instructing and although he has the credentials will not be willing to put in any effort towards teaching or connecting with students. I was very disappointed by lectures consisting of him standing at a podium and mumbling to himself about why his code won't work while just telling us to copy and paste.
This dude didnt even lecture and during covid-19 16 out of 60 students showed up to zoom lecture so he gave up on lecturing & best part yet is he started teaching (copy&paste) code and assigned a project that he stopped teaching us how to do
Seung Lee is just one of the worst. His lectures are so dry, the exams are really hard, and the excel assignments can give you a real headache if you don't start them early enough. Also, be aware of pop quizzes every class period, your participation grade is based off those quizzes and it can really hit your grade hard if you don't get points.
He is probably one of the most stubborn and uncaring prof. I have ever had. He sometimes will show you that he wants you to do well, but most of the time it is like he takes enjoyment out of hurting your grade. His class was so dry, the lectures made no sense, he is hard to hear, and he has no sympathy for other events in your personal life.
Dodge at all costs. The one good thing from this class is that Lee grades on a relative scale so you only have to do better than everyone else.
Where to start with Mr. Lee. Bad teacher, can't understand him in lectures and he is boring, bland, and hard to listen too. I would recommend taking anyone but him.
Just a bad teacher plain and simple. Doesn't teach the material well. During covid he just stopped teaching and still made us do assignments without instruction. There were quizzes daily to ensure you attend. Also class is graded on a relative scale but you never know where u rank because he won't tell you. If you take MIS find another prof.
Do not take Seung Lee, you're doing yourself a favor if you have a different professor for this course.
Seung is just hard to understand and goes through coding assignments super fast and makes it confusing. If you ask for help he doesn't offer a lot and tends to just point you to a slide from a slideshow that has very vague instructions. HIT assignments can be tricky but are somewhat interesting. 2 at best.
He's just impossible to understand and isn't very helpful. He isn't necessarily mean, but the lectures are brutal and he expects everyone to learn the exact way he teachers. It's just harder than it needs to be.
He's arrogant and annoying. The coding project is ridiculous and I've legitimately stopped doing the excel modules because they literally are the most horrendous thing ever. If you aren't well versed in excel you're screwed. I've never in my life been treated so disrespectfully by someone. It's like he enjoys ruining your semester. DONT TAKE
He is experienced and knowledgeable that is true, however you are not. You will find this to be the case as every concept will be explained briefly as if you already know the material. As mentioned before, you need to use your own resources outside of class to learn. If you get behind the lecture notes will provide no help in catching back up. GL!
doesn't explain what's going to be on exam
This is literally the worst class I've ever taken. He doesn't go into detail or explain anything. We just took our first exam (he literally didn't explain what it was on and when my friend asked he was so rude) but the class average was 61% in my class and 58% in the other! Then when we came to class the next day he didn't even address the average.
Hard course, doesn't help that there are only like 4 MIS professors either so you're kind of stuck. First few multiple choice quizzes requires you to know your coding terms and can set you back as those are the first grades. He literally shot a student down the other day saying he shouldn't be in the major all because the student asked for help.
Get ready to do a lot, and I mean a lot, of self studying! Don't understand something? Better ask the day of, any time after is a no no. He knows his stuff and he goes at his pace, if you fall behind, it's on you to catch up and on you to find the answers you need. Assignments must be done exactly as expected, anything different losses points.
Get ready for the worst class of your life. Basically, the homework is all on excel (which he doesn't teach in class) and the tests are on his lectures (which are impossible to understand). Also, if you don't know anything about computers I suggest you read your laptop manual front to back before attending the first day of class. DO NOT TAKE!
Homework is completely unrelated to the course content in the textbook and lectures. Expectations for exams are incredibly unclear, as content on these tests often cannot be found within the textbook nor within lecture slides. Resources for preparation are limited. He is incredibly knowledgeable, but the format of the course seems irrational.
This class with this professor SUCKS. I would never take this class unless I absolutely had too. I just had my second exam and found out that the "correct" answers on the exam were completely opposite of the notes he provided us with in his lectures. He is very hard to understand, refuses to help out students when they ask for... "figure it out".
Your grade ends up being okay after rounding. Tests are very hard but he curves the grade. Don't ask for help, he won't help. Only email/talk to him if it is about missing class for a good reason or something regarding fixing your grade due to a mistake.
This class is awful. He goes through lectures so fast, and it does not help you can not understand what is being said too well. Does not tell you what is going to be on the tests, you are expected to know. Info for the tests can not really be found anywhere. Best thing you can do is look at quizlets, and even then it does not help really at all
This professor is horrible, one of the worst I have ever had. Seung Lee does not care about you or your grade, It almost seems like he teaches the class attempting to fail you. He is not understanding and has no leniency. You can not understand his lectures and he moves so fast you have no chance of learning anything from him anyway.
The university needs to get rid of this course as a pre-bus prerequisite!! The lectures, homework, and exams do NOT match up. The only useful knowledge I am learning is how to use excel which is entirely self-taught. I feel sorry for the poor souls who are actually passionate about information systems. So good luck with this course, you'll need it.
One of the most disrespectful professors at UMD. He is rude to your face and on email. He doesn't know how to help you with your homework so don't bother wasting your time at office hours. I knew going into this class that it would be bad. But this class with him is an actual nightmare. Half of his students fail every exam and he couldn' care less.
The most disrespectful professor I have had, very rude in person and in emails (if he responds). Offers little to no help if you have questions about homework or exams. Almost every student failed the in person exams. Very lecture heavy and takes attendance at the end of every class.
Caring Honest Idealistic Nice Kind
I graduated two years ago and I return to warn the masses of the dark lord Seung Lee. If you want your mind pillaged and left in ruins, avoid this vile beast at all costs. I am still reaping the repercussions from this class years later and I dont think I have much time left on this earth. Heed my warning and godspeed.
There are only a few exams which basically determine your grade. He rambles for 1 hour and its very hard to follow anything he's saying. Lectures are all over the place and if you skip the class he will not curve your grade, which is basiclly the only way to do well in the class.
The homework is all in cengage using excel and he does not teach you how to do any of it and has nothing to do with what you are learning in class, he wont work with you at all you are responsible for learning all the material on your own pretty much
Talks for over an hour and I barely retain anything he teaches. He will not respond to emails so good luck trying to figure out the whole course on your own. He has no grading scale and only grades you based on a few exams and excel projects I'll be lucky to end with a C+ if I ace the final exam. Worst professor at UMD.
Can't understand a word this MF says, literally the worst prof I have ever had, hate this guy, awful teacher, impossible tests that are worded so poorly
if you have to take his class, take it during the summer or as an online course. that way you won't have to see him. you will still have to suffer with his emails but just give up being treated with respect and you'll be okay. the online class isn't so bad, the quizzes are worded horribly don't be too scared, you can get through it
The worst professor I had at UMD. Avoid him at all cost (if you can)
horrible professor
Can not understand him. Speak English please!
Worst prof I have ever had. his lectures are unbearable. Test are poorly worded. Over all boring and useless class taught by a boring prof that barely speaks English.
Seung Lee's lectures are like watching paint dry with someone mumbling incoherently in the background. His mandatory attendance policy is the only reason people show up. The exam questions seem like they were written at 4 AM and some aren't even consistent with the chapter material. He should be fired. Horrid semester.
Seung Lee publicly criticizes and berates students, and most are afraid to speak up about it. Hard to understand him or the lackluster curriculum he regurgitates. Dismissive and rude to anyone who asks for help. He should not be teaching in any capacity!
The worst class I have ever taken at UMD! Lectures are confusing to understand yet shame on students that need help understanding the content. In-class quizzes are horrendous and strain your grade. Be sure to do well on the weekly homework to at least pass the class.
1/5 is too high. Very tough grader and if its not perfect to his liking, its a zero with no partial credit. Doesn't matter if you get the right output, he'll find a way to complain and give you a zero percent and have it tank your grade. Never helpful for questions and assignments are not covered in class, so he is basically Satan on steroids.
This man does not care about your feelings and your grades. If you do not want your mental health to be strained the rock bottom, avoid this hypocrite of a professor. Be careful, if your code in the homework, quizzes, or tests are not to his liking, you will get a zero with no partial credit given no matter if you get the correct output or not.
Worst professor... doesn't care... Homework has nothing to do with exams... an awful communicator in class and through email... Should have been fired a long time ago.
Professor Lee is a nice guy however everything that the tests are on is no where to be found in the course content. these exams are extremely difficult even when you prep for these tests for hours/days. it will not be enough to do well.
Tests are worded poorly...lectures don't seem to align with the tests all that much. Attendance is mandatory.
This professor does not care about his students success. He rambles during lectures and your grade is mostly determined by exams and a few assignments that have absolutely nothing to do with what he is teaching in lectures. I had to attend his office hours once and he was extremely rude and not at all helpful.
The tests are ridiculous
Avg on first exam was 40/100 and final exam was 50/100. Incredibly difficult to know what he wants cause his "lectures" are never stuff that are on the weekly hw or exams. If he dont like the way you did it, 0% with no partial credit. Literally blamed the students for the poor scores and said 1 student did well, so never takes responsibility
Try to avoid Seung Lee at all costs. His grading rubric is nonexistent. If you get the required output for a problem and it's not how he likes it, 0 POINTS. Pop quizzes are the death of you in this class as it totaled to over 200 points? (don't remember but it was significant). Good luck on the exams because you wont have time to finish all of it.
It's sad I had to pay for this class.
All of the homework's, quizzes, and exams the average was roughly around a 50% for each one. We went to his office hours and he said "He can't teach the logical way of thinking. Students either know it or they don't". Doesn't care bout your grade or any of the students and he failed roughly half the class because he refused to curve the scores.....
Avoid at all cost, you will thank me later.
Best Professor I have ever had. The way in which he teaches concepts in his courses make it very easy to get a good grade. Would 100% take any class with professor Lee.
Honestly the best professor I've ever had. Homework was a breeze. All these reviews are just by people who have no common sense
MIS students BEWARE! Every review on here already sums up what I could say. Some tips; please learn python before taking his class (first week is right into for statements). Every point matters, make sure you get them. He adds weight to the end of your class grade, it is not flat rate point. He is difficult in and out of the classroom.
Avoid if you can, but if you need to take MIS2201, find another professor.
Professor Lee exemplifies an unparalleled commitment to academic excellence and student success. His dynamic and engaging teaching style brings even the most challenging subjects to life, creating an atmosphere of intellectual excitement in the classroom. Please I HIGHLY recommend you take Professor Lee! This class has been truly life-changing!
This dude has the most boring lectures I have ever. I learned about as much as you would learn if you were deaf and trying to learn the piano. He puts out study guides for the tests and then none of the material is on the test. Only thing that saves my grade was lots of EC. if you have the opportunity, dont take this class with this professor!
This prof is a good person, but his class was awful. Attendance is mand as he gives pop quizzes and does take attendance. Lectures make no sense and are all over the place. I always ended up working on homework during class because I was confused. The exams have nothing to do with what he teaches either. It's a miracle I didn't fail this class.
Seung seems to have taken a positive turn. This class is much less stressful than programming. You have a semester long project and he is understanding and encouraging. Our class size was small, be prepared to work on this project by yourself, pace your time out. We often got extra credit on our homework.
When I was a Sophomore in MIS2201, Professor Lee really made me consider dropping from UMD. He was notorious for being one of the toughest professors at LSBE. I'm not sure what changed, but the courses for Professor Lee at the 3000/4000 level the past year were lenient and he's very approachable at his office hours now. Hoping it continues.
Lectures are disorganized and tests don't align with what's taught. Attendance is mandatory, but classroom time feels wasted. Unstuck AI was a lifesaver for exam prep when the material just didn't click.
what he teaches In class has nothing to do with what the homework is. So you go into the homework blind not really knowing what to do. Exams have nothing to do with what he teaches in class. He also does no test prep, the only thing he posts is about 20 pages of what the questions could be. Do not take this guy.
The lecture is very long and mind-numbing. We do a lot of things in class that don't make much sense. Everything we do in class does not translate to the homework, which is almost like an entirely different class.
Every time I go to this class I feel like I just wasted so much time but attendance is taken, very lecture heavy about just random information. He gives a study guide but its not very helpful, its clear nobody enjoys being there and is struggling. Wouldn't take him if you have to but its not that terrible if you do the work
His lectures are just him reading off slides, giving us nothing of value & attendance is graded. Personal experience with him was worse; after trying to leave early (emailed beforehand), he called me out in front of the entire lecture hall & told me I'd be marked absent. Major lack of empathy for students. Class feels like a major waste of time.
This class feels like three different classes and he doesn't do a good job connecting them at all. The lectures have nothing to do with the homework, which is something he never even mentions in class and something you have to teach yourself. He gives you over 20 pages of possible questions to study that MIGHT be on the test, there's no other review
If you can help it never and I mean NEVER take MIS 2201 with him. The lectures for this class always felt like they would never end, he rambled on and on for over an hour about things almost always completely irrelevant to the homework, quizzes and exams. This class deserves to be at least 10 credits for the horror you will be put through.
Professor Lee is genuinely the worst professor I've had at UMD. He doesn't care about students at all, his emails are horrible, and you learn nothing. He refuses to offer assistance and is strangely obsessed with AI (He brought it up every class). Sitting through his rambling and irrelevant lectures has probably taken years off my life.
There's a difference between healthy struggle for learning, and a useless struggle that comes from poor teaching. Unfortunately, the struggle in this class is the useless kind.
