Dr. Seven creates an inviting space with clear power points that are easy to follow. She made me laugh and truly opened my eyes with the material covered in class. Be prepared to challenge your views on animals and society. Readings are not mandatory to succeed but are sometimes necessary for the weekly prompt.

Dr. Seven is hands down the most fun, laid-back, and friend-like professor/teacher I've ever met. Add in the fact that she's really passionate about the course and will have you questioning your existence, and you have one of the best classes in the whole school

ISS-210 I would 100% recommend taking this class. The lectures are interesting, the teacher is very helpful, and its a 4 credit class. The exams are quite literally the study guide, which in turn is just the slides she does in class, which are also online. She uses tophat for attendance and questions. Once a week homework and 1 ez group project

Seven is a fantastic teacher, best I have had yet. Although the class is a little tough if you do your stuff its not bad at all. She is one of the most knowledgeable teachers about her area of study I have had yet.

Dr. Seven is a great professor!! She is super kind, caring and makes her class fun and interesting. I advise that you do read the books and do the discussion boards though! Those are graded. The tests are not very hard and there are only 3 tests as well. Overall, I would highly recommend her class and I would take it again!!

She's a bit odd, but overall very friendly and upbeat every day. The class can be a little boring at times, but as long as you pay attention and complete the weekly blog assignments it's really an easy A.

Cool teacher. She is a super happy person and she seems to enjoy her job. She is very knowledgeable and helpful. This class is a free A if you do the study guides because they are exactly like the test and all tests are open note. You get to miss 4 blog posts, so dont feel pressured to do all of them. Extra credit is also awarded.

Great class. The professor is super sweet and genuinely cares about what she's teaching. There are small participation activities in every class, weekly discussion posts, and three big tests. Tests are easy, all multiple choice, and you are able to take them from your room. You can miss 4 discussion posts. Lectures are interesting, you learn a lot.

Dr. Seven was a great professor. She's very passionate about the class. The exams were all open note. We did have to read 2 books, but it was nothing crazy. You have to attend because there's an attendance code via Tophat, but you can text a friend if you were lazy. Super easy course & great person!

Probably the best professor I've ever hadshe is incredibly understanding and her lectures are 100% worth going to. She is very fun, makes goofy puns and jokes and it makes you enjoy the class. Not too much reading just try to keep up a bit and you'll do great. 10/10 professor. I had her at 8am and didn't mind going to class.

Dr. Seven is by far one of my favorite professors. I took ISS210 online this semester (while its not yet over), she is a bit quirky, but that's also what makes her so fun, understanding, and bubbly. The way her course is set up is super easy to navigate!

Dr Seven is literally an icon. Her lectures are so interesting and thought provoking, and this quickly became my favourite class this semester. She is very understanding and kind, definitely cares about her students and that they pass. Though the material is fairly easy it is still an amazing class.

mattes cares about her students a lot and it shows. pretty easy homework each week and shes always so positive. during the coronavirus it felt good to know she was there if i needed to talk to anyone. there was 4 group projects and two exams. not very difficult and i actually learned stuff.

Very good professor. Lectures were always super interesting and she always wanted to know our thoughts and opinions. The work wasn't overly difficult it was just a little time-consuming. This is not a very high stress-level class, and the content is intriguing.

Dr. Seven made my first semester at MSU a memorable one! She is very caring and gives extensions on homework if you ask. Her Power Points were interesting to read through and makes many connections to relevant news. She is kind enough to make study guides which help you get easy A's on exams

Loved this class and Professor Mattes! She was awesome. Really well put together slide show lectures with great videos incorporated. The material was really interesting, and I enjoyed the surveys each week before the quizzes. Would definitely look into taking another one of her classes again! She's that good.

Really awesome professor!! Classes are really engaging and informational, no matter your major I highly recommend any class this prof teaches. Its a reasonable amount of work through the semester and an easy 4.

I really enjoyed the Animals and Society class. The topics are interesting and the work wasn't too bad. There are some readings in the beginning of the chapters but nothing too bad. Do the study guides and don't miss the quizzes and its an easy class.

ISS 210 was by far my favorite class this semester. I also took Calc 3 and CSE 231 so it was kinda nice having a professor whose class didn't want to make me put my head through a wall. Would have loved to have taken this class in person, but Dr. Seven's teaching style made it super enjoyable even in the online format.

Prof. Seven was THE best prof I had all semester. I had an asynchronous course, and even though the lectures were on powerpoint, she did voice overs which really helped! She made it really interesting to learn, and the assignments were mostly based on your opinion of the material. Overall, if you put the work in, you're sure to get an A!

Dr. Seven is great, I really enjoyed her class the most out of any of the others I had. Her lectures were SO interesting, and her attendance requirement kept me motivated to keep attending classes. The workload isn't bad at all! Just stay on top of it and you'll be good!

Super great professor! My class was completely asynchronous and we had powerpoint lectures instead of zooms but I found it super convenient and they have all the information needed for quizzes/tests. She truly cares about her students so don't be scared to go to her with an issue. She gave me multiple extensions for sickness & internet issues

Dr. Seven has made my first semester of college so much better. She is so nice and understanding, she gives her students anything they need to be successful in her class and beyond. I never met her personally but through her engaging powerpoints I felt like I really got to know her. Highly recommend, favorite teacher so far.

Dr. Seven is great. She cares about you as a person, many times she mentioned our mental health and to let her know if we had any issues. I had a group project that we had an issue turning in she allowed us to submit it a day late for full credit. She is extremely understanding. Her class work is not overtly hard, and the exams dont mean as much.

I've had Mattes for 2 ISS courses. I went to in-person but it wasn't mandatory this semester. She is very nice and kind, a bit goofy. She cares about people, animals, and the earth. There is a bit of readings each week, that you have to do to do well on exams and assignments. Sometimes fun things like movies. 4 group projects over the semester.

Excellent professor. Was able to give very good lectures and was incredibly nice. The classwork was very reasonable, and the course was well adapted to a semi-online environment. All in all amazing.

I absolutely loved Dr. Seven. She is always willing to help and explain extra when needed and is just the sweetest woman ever. She always makes lecture fun and I actually thought I was going to hate the class but by week 2, it was my favorite class of the semester. Definitely recommend!!

Some ratings on here say she has a "political agenda" but I don't think she does, literally the class is learning about culture and philosophy, which have different perspectives. Class is SUPER easy, if you take notes on the lectures and review key terms, surveys and quizzes are easy. Exams are open note. Class and Dr. Mattes are super chill

This class was great. It was a little political but it's hard not to be when talking about political issues. She did a great job at seeing both sides of politics as well. Regardless, she made the class super easy and honestly just a fun class to learn in. A 10/10 professor and I would definitely take her again.

Professor Mattes was my favorite professor this semester. From being funny and caring about students to being easygoing and making class fun, this class was something I really enjoyed. This class was a class I never dreaded going to. A small quiz, survey, and discussion board are usually due by midnight every Friday night.

Great Professor - The class is mostly about society and animals and not society and the individual. Survey, quiz, and discussion prompt every week. Four group projects throughout the semester. If you do well on the homework and group projects you can bomb the exams and still get an A+ in the class.

This was my favorite class this semester all because of Dr. Seven! As a zoology major I really enjoy learning about animals, which was really helpful because that was what this class is mostly about. But it also helps you think differently about topics relating to society and personally. There is quite a bit of reading, but most of it is skimable.

She is very patient and is easy to contact outside of class. Lectures can be a bit boring, but it's not difficult content. A quiz and discussion post every week. Attendance is mandatory and participation comes from answering Tophat questions. There is only 4 group projects, all fairly simple.

Get ready for lots of work but very understanding and forgiving teacher I absolutely loved her and would have her any day as my professor again.

Dr. Seven was one of the nicest teachers I've had. She was always willing to look over my work before exams and tried to make the class as easy for students as possible. Her lectures were interesting and easy to understand, and I looked forward to her class.

She is amazing. Very caring, very understanding. If you're a freshman- just do your best on staying on top of the work and not miss any deadlines. I forgot how many classes you can miss but try to go to them- she is great at giving out lectures. Again, would highly recommend taking it if you are a freshman. Very relaxed and chill class!!! Love her.

Dr. Seven has been one of my favorite college professors at MSU. They are understanding, stress free, and an amazing teacher. Workload is significant and requires a good chunk of time to complete, but isn't overwhelming. They provide very flexible due-dates. Their presentations are organized and the cool graphics make it very interesting to learn!

Heavy on homework, but very easy if you stay organized

1hr work per week (2hr max). Class is easy, interesting material. Only thing I wish is that this had an online option and tophat was not a part of the class.

Last year I emailed her super late into the semester (very last minute) and was honest w her and just told her I forgot abt some of the assignments. She let me do them again with full points- and saved my grade to a 3.5. What other prof does that? You won't regret taking her

Dr. Seven is an amazing professor. They are always open to helping you with the material if you did not understand the lecture. There is a book that you will need to read for the class but its pretty interesting and if you keep up with the readings you will do fine in the class.

Mattes is one of the best social science profs I've had here. She answers questions thoroughly and gets back to your emails fast. The class is easy, and you have cushion for your grade if you do poorly on an assignment. After the event in February she made sure her students were okay and gave us time to recuperate. Take her if you can.

Dr. Seven is kind and truly wants her students to suceed. She cares about the well being of students and often did mental check ins through her surveys and tophat questions during exam heavy weeks and in general. The course is easy and Dr. Seven did a great job at welcoming all opinions and views and made it a safe space for all. Highly recommend!

I personally didn't enjoy the readings, but I think it's a personal preference. There's 4 group projects, but she won't penalize you if a member doesn't participate. All of the assessments are open note and actually relate to what you learn, so there aren't any random questions. Be sure you're ready to face the harsh realities surrounding animals.

Professor Mattes is a wonderful and interesting person. Though their vibrant personality is largely what make this class so engaging, they also choose relevant and informative materials for us to discuss. I can tell they are very deliberate and thoughtful with the kind of content they assign, because it has never felt too easy or like too much.

TAKE HER! She's super easy and very willing to help you outside of class. All of the quizzes and exams come from things she said in class or things on the PowerPoint. You can have a few skips in the class and there was even extra credit opportunity. SHES THE BEST

Definitely take ISS210 with Dr. Seven. They are super nice and understanding and an easy grader. They changed the course to focus on animals so it is super interesting. You get multiple drops and skips throughout the semester but I recommend not using them all before the end because you probably will get tired of doing the discussion posts.

Easy class, same few requirements every week. The professor herself is amazing, nice, funny, and understanding. This class could be taken completely online if it was an option. Take her class as it adds no stress to your other ones.

Took ISS210 & ANP201 with seven! They're great, the class is probably the most well organized you will ever have. It's also easy.

One of my favorite profs I've had. Very understanding and flexible. Not too much work, but enough to keep you engaged all week. No Friday classes despite what the schedule says! Exams are pretty straightforward. Do the exam study guides and you'll easily 4.0! Group projects aren't too bad as long as you get good teammates.

Overall I think Seven was a good teacher. She was super nice and always ready to help a student. To be honest I didn't like the class or the material and the weekly discussion post and reading were pretty boring and took some time but were not that hard.

Super easy class and not a tough grader. A lot of readings but you can just skim through them to find the answers for the weekly discussion posts. Only 3 exams and they're all open notes you can find the answers through the lecture slides, readings, and review. The group assignments aren't bad either. Recommend taking it if you want an easy A.

Class is all about Animals in Society. Very different than most ISS but interesting. Not something you would typically learn about but fun and new. I had no need to take notes. Exams are all on your own. Discussion, quiz, and survey due each week, pretty easy. Recommend if you are open minded, want to learn about animals, and not stress.

This class was very manageable there was a discussion post due every week as well as a survey and a take home quiz, but overall the course load really wasn't bad. Her midterms, which she calls VDKs, were take home and online which was nice. You can tell she really is passionate about what teaches and seems very friendly.

Lots of group projects, but almost every friday class is dropped because of meetings or group project days. Easy class as long as you do the once a week assignments.

Dr. Mattes was very nice and always excited to teach her class. Three group projects throughout the course, online exams including the final (no lockdown browser), mandatory attendance through tophat, and weekly surveys, quizzes, and prompts due every Friday. She was a very nice professor, just a little heavy on the workload.

Easiest class ever, attendance is with top hat and only homework took my 30 mins a week max! Super caring and supportive.
