He's hard to understand but pretty easy. I think I passed ONE test with a C and somehow passed the whole class with a C. He grades on a huge curve! If you suck at math this is the guy to take
Took him for threee classes. Speech is not the best, but buy far is not the worst teacher. Very competent about math skills and enjoys teaching math. Doing homework and paying attention in class will earn a guaranteed good grade.

I thought he was great. He really works with you and doesn't grade hard at all. He does have an accent though, but if I could deal with it, so can anyone else.
This guy is great. He's very helpful and will continue to go over something until it is explained. He's also got a great sense of humor. He grades on a curve and also lets attendance count for points. Don't expect him to ever let you out early.
I am taking Calculus for business. This teacher is HARD!!! Only two test and quiz every class. First quiz I got a 8.5 out of 20. The highest grade in the class was a 11.5 and he didnt curve it. Do not take his class!!!!
He sucks! Very hard, is all over the place in lectures. The entire class failed the first quiz(the easiest one). He gives you homework to study for quizes, then doesn't put it on the quiz, not understandable with an accent.
He is very nice. most people in this class don't do squat so they get bad grades. If you do the homework, he goes over it the next day. He will help you until you "get it." A little language barrier, but not bad, really.
This teacher is confused with himself, he is all over the place. He grades everyone different, and if you ask a question, he says "your confused", DUH! Everyone said he would curve at the end to avoid everyone from failing, but he didn't and maj
I hate Him....he is really hard and expects everyone to understand his teaching just because he (thinks) he does...why do they have him teaching anyway, he can barely speak english. he is very insympatheitc towards your grades so i wouldnt recommend him!
This teacher is very hard and didn't seem to really care about his students. He wrote things on the board but didn't really explain. I've thought about dropping school because of this class - it was that bad.
I do not recommend this class. On the third week we were still on chapter one. Be weary or the take home test. It is exceptionally hard, and he gave it to us, because he was behind. He is a nice guy, but if math is a weakness, try to find someone else
DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY!!!! Very hard!!! He has 2 tests and a quiz almost every class. On a couple quizes he had not even taught us the information yet, but we were being tested on it before we even learned it!!! Horrible teacher!!!
STAY AWAY AT ALL COST!!!!!!!! Moves way too fast no recognizible lesson plan
He is Iranian, Speaks persian as his native but he is cool, beause want u to learn

DOESN'T SPEAK ENGLISH WELL ENOUGH!!! I spent more time in this man's class trying to understand what he was saying than learning the material. There are only two test a midterm and a final. He gives problems on the test that weren't covered in class. He doesn't wait for people to understand it. BAD!
FIND ANOTHER TEACHER.......................
I don't give a diddly-squat WHAT the rest of the irresponsible little nerds in my class thought. I liked the subject, and he made it interesting. You study and keep up with him, you'll get an "A" like I did. Nice body, too!
Mr.Vafa is very helpfull. He comes to class ahead of time to help students. He assigns homework and expects that you do the work. I had him last semester and I passed the course with a "B".
WARNING: If you are not the blackboard he does not teach you. He speaks to the blackboard more than he does the students. He works the problem on the blackboard but does not explain how he came to get the answer. If you are even up on algebra but not a wiz stay away.
He is a terrible teacher. He went over the material so fast you did not get it. And then we got behind and he put things on the tests and final that he spent about 5 minutes over the class before the test. We started the class with 45 people and ended with 10..that should say enough.

Is not native to the english language but it wasnt an english course and he really took the time to explain things if students ever bothered to ask. He is not the easiest but definately not difficult. Quick tests and homework not graded just used for practice :) I would be more than happy to take another course with him.
hahaha dont get me started, i agree with any of the negative comments left. i gotta tell u that blackboard he talked to knows more math than any of us. oh yeah he likes to wear pink shirts.
was very hard to understand and did not make an effort to work with students who had problems.
He was a very good teacher, he just need to be a little more clear so that his class can have a more clear understanding. He needs to make more study guides and guide us more through our homework.
DANGER:DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!WARNING:WORST PROFESSOR EVER!This was a 8 wk long course w/ 4 quizzes & 2 tests. Noone could drop because he only had 1/2 the quizzes & tests graded and we didn't get our last 2 quizzes back until AFTER the final.SCATTERBRAINED,UNPREPARED,CAN'T DO A SIMPLE ALGEBRA PROB,I could keep going on.
Mr. Vafabakhsh is a courteous gentleman who is very generous with his time. He arrives early, will work with you through break, and stay late to answer questions. His English is not native, but his ideas are clear. Wants you to learn. Tests are fair representations of material presented. Strongly Recommended. Next math course I will seek his class.
Wonderful class. Very straight forward on grading and expectations. Ask questions...he will be more than happy to answer them! Just because these students don't understand math and don't take the time out to ask questions, does not mean that Prof. Vafa is a bad teacher. He definately knows his stuff :)
Prof. "V" is great! I was originally in w/a diff prof for this crse & after the 1st class, knew he wasn't for me; he was opposite of Prof V, he was full of self & expected you to self teach on web pgs & handouts. Prof V takes time to demo exmpls & gives you prac problms to do in class & wrks them out w/u b4 mvng on. No trbl w/ dialect I recmd him
Very good professor. It is an algebra course, so yes you do have to PAY ATTENTION! but not hard to understand and professor will answer any questions you may have.
First I hate math. Second, its not that he was a bad teacher. He knows his math problems, however, he tends to jump around in the work book wayyyyyyy too much to keep up with. We will be on chapter 5 and he goes back to chapter 3 for the next 2 hours. He is a very nice man and is willing to help you anytime you need.
DO NOT TAKE VERY HARD AND HE IS VERY UNHELPFUL. HE HAS HIS PETS AND THE REST HE FAILS.HES LATE FOR CLASS BUT EXPECTS STUDENTS TO BE ON TIME.
he doesn't communicate to his students well.
This is the worst teacher i have ever had at FCCJ. He doesnt tell you what is on you test. Also when you go to his office and ask for help he trys to help and then he says ok i am done to it at home. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
PLEASE I REPEAT PLEASE DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!!! MAN HIS ENGLISH ISN'T THAT GOOD!! HE WOULD BE DOING A PROBLEM ON THE BOARD BUT BE COVERING IT UP AT THE SAME TIME!! HE WOULD JUMP FROM ONE SECTION 2 ANOTHA!! HE WRITES SAME AND HE ASSIGNS HOMEWORK AND LOTS OF IT BUT WOULDN'T GRADE IT!! THE WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD!!!
AVOID THIS PROFFESSOR IF AT ALL POSSIBLE! His accent is distracting and at times annoying because course terms can be mixed up. His blackboard writing habits are terrible! He writes and stands directly infront of what he's doing! Then moves on without answering questions which it seems he avoids at all costs! He needs to speak to his students...
Take this professor for all your math courses, he is xtremely helpful and fluent English.
Professor V is a nice and patient man. He will do all he can to ensure a students success.
Very nice and provides individual help for a hard subject. Accent can be a little distracting but a serious student can stay focused. If you do the homework you will do well in the class, even though the tests and quizzes are hard
HE IS A HORRIBLE TEACHER!!!! I CAN HARDLY UNDERSTAND HIM BECAUSE OF HIS ACCENT. HE MOVES TO FAST IN CLASS AND HE IS NOT VERY HELPFULL. IF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND SOMETHING HE WILL JUST EXPLAIN IT THE EXACT SAME WAY OVER AND OVER AGIAN.I WISH I HAD NEVER SIGNED UP FOR THIS CLASS. HE REALLY DOES SUCK!!!!
He really isn't that bad. He spends time repeating what we don't understand. His accent isn't that bad, either. He has his quirks, but most teachers do. I recommend him, he will definitely help you if you are having trouble.
Prof. Vafa is really a sweet man, and is willing to help you if you express his concerns to him. He does not want anyone to do badly, but you have to take the initiative to go to him for help. He is no harder than any other professor.
I hate math. He is a good teacher, and explains things step by step with examples. If you struggle like I do in math, He is good about working with you outside of class time. He wants everyone to pass. Even with the thick accent, he is easy to understand.
don't take this class unless you want to fail. he takes longer showing you how to use your calculator, than trying to explain hwo to do the work.
Lectures from the time you walk in, and keeps you after your time sometimes. I dropped his class because I was making a D. I took the class with a different professor and received an A.
I was not interested in math before I joined his class and ended up dropping his class because I did not understand what he was saying most of the time and he lectures extremely fast so it's hard to learn when you dont even have a beginner's understanding. Yes he will work with you, but it wasnt worth the stress for me.
I will not be taking this teacher again. I tried to go to him for help on many occasions and all he says is to wait until the next test. He said if I fail I fail. Was unwilling to give any extra help. He only grades on the four tests he gives so there is no room for mistake. All his class is, is one long lecture. Terrible teacher.
This is not an easy "A" class, but if you want to learn Math, he's a wealth of knowledge. We bash him, but Prof Seyed is not the problem, Algebra is. It's a tough course that requires a lot of study. I struggled and made a "C". I went to him on several occassions and he helped, also suggested I use to online Math Lab. It also helped.
I've read alot of ppl bashing poor Vafa, and some of it is kinda true (accent, lack of individual attention, etc.). However I will say this, no matter how bad you do on your tests and quizzes, all you have to do is show up for class everyday and you're guaranteed to pass.
This teacher is great and could build rockets if he wanted to. He's thorough in his teachings. The problem is Algebra itself! I'm terrible at it and have never gotten it. I'd take him again. Just ask questions and you'll better understand what problems he's teaching about and take notes and show up every class, it'll help!
He's a great professor and tries very hard to get you to understand the material but he also moves very fast. I had a very hard time understanding a lot of the work and may have to take the course again. He doesn't give credit for homework and there is a lot of it! Overall he's a great guy he's a tough teacher!
Smart man. Knows what he himself is doing, but fails to convey it to the class. If you can self-teach Algebra, then his class aint all that bad. Monotone w/ no personality. Will attempt to help you, but sometime just doesnt succeed. The highest average score for the class was a 50/100. So either we were idiots, or he didnt communicate well.
Love this professor. I've never been one to do well in Math and for the first time I'm doing extremely well. Show up for class and do the extra credit when offered. Last 2 tests were take home! (one being the final) I would take him again if I could! Highly Highly Recommended!!
I did not like him. He did not teach the material. He copied right out of the book and thought that just because he got meant you did too. No one did well. I will not take him agian. The tests where nothing like what he taught. He is a very nice guy though, but I just dont like his style of teaching.
He is an amazing math proffesor! I am one who has struggled with algebra for years, and this class was an easy A for me. He goes over every single step with details and delicacy to make sure that those who are bad at math get it. Test and quizes are up to 10 questoins. He never hesitates to stay after class to help a student. Great class!
Unless you walk into class already knowing the material, you are going to have a difficult time understanding. I'm sure he's great at math, but he's horrible on communication. Double check if you should be receiving extra credit.
Half of class failed 1st exam. Professor kept us after class and then spoke to us like we were stupid. He doesn't go over worksheets given out, so how do we know what we are doing is right.
Poor old Prof. V...doesn't anybody else like him?! I'm usually not good at math at all, but I got through his class with no problem and got out with an A. He goes over pretty much everything you need to know for your exams. Pay attention and do what you're supposed to and you will pass his class.
I think Prof V gets rated poorly due to his accent. He is a wonderful professor! Algebra as a subject is quite challenging but he will explain it many times and you can always ask him for additional help, if needed. If you actually want to learn something in your college career, I would definitely recommend him :)
For math below MAT1105 i would use him but 1105 and above i would not. He copies it straight out of the book, he does give extra credit which helps but the course was very hard and the whole class struggled. Once again, great guy just needs to work on teaching
I took this teacher for Intermediate algebra and he was a good teacher. He took his time and explained well but was kind of boring. Very nice man and he curved the grades.
I think he's great. Very clear and concise. He has an Indian accent but it's not bad at all. He's very monotone. I got an A in MAT0024 so it's easy for me to follow along but I know some are struggling. He seems to want to help those that are having a hard time. I would take him again.
For a mathematical savant, this class might be easy, but for the average student, even one with good grades, it is a frustrating. He teaches straight from the book and you can expect to see the hardest problems possible on your tests and quizzes. The homework is graded for accuracy, which exacerbates the issue.Tutors are not enough to do well.Avoid
I went into this course expecting the worst, largely in part because of his other ratings. However, I can say that after taking his course, yes he does have a accent but if you are actually paying attention to what he is talking about it easy enough to understand what he is saying. If you do all your assigned homework and study this is an Easy A
HE IS VERY PATIENT. WILL EXPLAIN IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND. DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND IT WILL HELP YOU ON TESTS. TRY NOT TO MISS CLASS BECAUSE HE EXPLAINS FORMULAS, NOT JUST TELL YOU WHAT THEY ARE. WILL PREPARE YOU FOR COLLEGE ALGEBRA.
STAY AWAY! TERRIBLE PROFESSOR! HE DOES NOT EXPLAIN ANYTHING AND DOES NOT UNDERSTAND YOUR QUESTION IF YOU ASK ONE.
Doesn't take the time to explain what he's writing on the board. Doesn't understand the questions that are asked. Gives the hardest problems on the quizzes and exams. I'm sure he is very intellegent but is not a good professor. Doesn't teach, just talks and it sounds like "Blah, blah, blah.." Stay away from this guy!
DON'T DO IT!!!!! Horrible teacher. He gives homework but does not collect it and does not go over it which completely defeats the purpose. He does not explain work well and the problems on the quizzes and exams are nothing like what he goes over in class. I love math and thats my inteded major but he made me rethink that decision. JUST DON'T DO IT!
this teacher is not a good professor..he is boring and it is very hard to keep up in his class
poor quality in class performance and teaching style
Horrible!! Dont do it.
I could learn more staying at home watching youtube. All he does is write on board same thing that is in the text. Does not explain or as students questions. Does curve but had to ask since the whole class was failing except one student. Boring, in class quizes and exams hard. 5 quizes total 20 points each drops lowest quiz. 4 Exams 10 questions.
If you do your homework in his statistics class you will do fine. Plus he is very patient in helping you if you ask him. He does get carried away writting on board sometimes, but if you stop and ask him, he will explain it more.Grades only quizes and tests, but tests are easy problems and quizes are take home open book. Would take his class again!!
I could of got more out of watching youtube intructers then this professor. Hard in class test and quizes. Must have book or you wont do well. Very boring. All he does is write on board the same thing thats in the book. He does curve the grade at the end but stay away from this professor. Assigns HW does not collect. Waste of time. Not helpful.
Vafa was not very attententive to his students needs. Take this class only if you can function as an independent Math student.
Not as bad as people say, they just dont understand his accent sometimes. Use my math lab if you need help. All problems come from homework, so do it.
He was boring, and I couldn't understand what he said. He wrote what was in the book on the board. He didn't understand questions that you ask. Quizzes & tests are questions from the HW. HW wasn't collected, & I just felt like I was wasting my time in his class. He tried to curve the grades at the end, but I still failed. DO NOT take this class!!!!
He's a terrible professor. All he does is copy the examples from the book onto the board. Make's you feel like a jack ass if you ask him questions. STAY AWAY!!! Even if this is the professor on this world I still wouldn't recommend taking him. Our class started out with 36 students and is down to 9 and the semester isn't up.
Stay away from him!!!!
Horrible. He's all over the place, jumping around the textbook, unclear and uninteresting lecture, couldn't grab the main point and difficult point, never cover any useful material, wonder what's he's doing everyday. Don't take
He comes to class unprepared and thinks hes the best math professor fscj has to offer when he definitely is not. Teaching is not what he should be doing. He has a thick Iranian accent and can be hard to understand.
Students, don't believe all the bad things said here about Prof. Vafa's inattentiveness to students. While his class is hard and some of the time he does seem to be a bit disorganized, he will do all that he can to help you understand the material as long as you put forth effort. He provides extra credit to those that stop by his office for help.
Extremely difficult teacher, stay away. The material itself isn't all that difficult if you're more math inclined, but he grades harsher than any professor I've ever had. Very nitpicky grader. Don't expect a high grade even if you get questions correct. Less than halfway through the course over 50% of the class has dropped so far.
He's a hard teacher but if you ask for more explanation he will give it to you
hands down one of the worst professors. he goes too fast, and doesn't slow down. He is nice as a person, but a horrible professor. Does not go over exams, and doesn't give study guied.
He is horrible, im failing
i dont usually ever do this. STEER CLEAR!!! im good in math but this man does not teach or go by his syllabus. impossiby hard. nice person. cant understand. and terrible teacher. run the other way!!
Worst professor I have had to date. He is vague, hard to understand, gets an attitude if you ask questions, grades harshly, and makes no sense. Don't take math with this professor unless you want to fail.
Very difficult. His teaching method is straight out of the book, unenthusiastic, and boring. His back is to the class the majority of the time. I like math and can say that after taking this class I am not as enthusiastic about it as I used to be. For those who need to be engaged in what they're learning I STRONGLY do not recommend this teacher.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. HE WAS VERY BORING AND I BASICALY LEARNED THE MATERIAL BY MYSELF. HE HAS A VERY MONOTONED ANNOYING VOICE. IF YOU TAKE HIM YOU ARE WAISTING YOUR TIME. AND HIS QUIZES AND TEST ARE NOTHING LIKE THE NOTES WE TAKE IN CLASS.
This professor should be avoided. He knows the material decently, but he will often times mess up during class while doing a problem and have to restart it. Tests/quizzes are not like the homework/classwork. Also, do not try to reason with him when tests are not graded properly. Doesn't explain things well. Better off using just the book.
Quizzes and tests he gave looked nothing like his examples during lecture or what we did on My Math Lab assignments, very confusing.
My class was small (7 people), he explained the material well, and had a good understanding. His exams are difficult, as are the quizzes, he was happy to explain problems until you have full understanding, his accent does lead to some communication problems, but he did curve the grade a bit, and all in all was fair and a good professor.
This professor's voice is very monotone. He provides a lot of homework coming from the book. At least 40 to 60 math problems per chapter. Quizzes and test questions comes from the homework. No formula sheets. I fell behind on homework, and it was really hard to catch up. If anyone falls behind on homework, you will fail future quizzes and exams.
He's VERY MONO-TONED with a very thick accent. The majority of the class you only see his back. All he do is just talk and write. No excitement in voice at all. He writes so tiny that you have to move all the way up to the front of the class to read it. He gives a quiz once a week. 4-5 test per semester. I had to basically teach my self.
The class started with about 15 students. When I dropped there were 3 left. It's not that the class or material is difficult. He is a horrible teacher. He's dry and confusing. They say "Those who can, do, and those who can't, teach." Seyed must be a real good doer because he sure can't teach! You must consider another teacher at all cost!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! Not unless you are willing to teach yourself, if so have fun. He knows this stuff, but how he teaches doesn't help a lot of the students. Mono-toned, may crack a joke once in a blue moon. If you take this class, I would suggest getting a Calc for dummies book. It helps you understand what he is teaching.
I pass .He was extremely hard.
Do not take!
Worse teacher ever! Very hard to understand. Gets problems wrong often and has to restart them. Rude. Unwilling to help students out. By far the worse teacher I've ever experienced. Avoid taking his class. Ps he doest speak very good english making it harder to understand him.
He was very helpful if you asked for help. He assigns homework but does not require you turn it in which means no one did it and then they were surprised they were failing. Do the homework, study, and you'll pass... It just may not be with an A. The quizzes and tests are very hard though!
Dont listen to good raters, they had decent backgrounds in mathematics prior to the class. Quizzes and test are too hard. Gets annoyed when students ask for specific steps in solving the problem. This professor needs to be evaluated for tenure because he is the worst professor I have had.
He is boring and mono tone. He teaches as if its a "review" and he won't explain unless u ask. I didn't learn ANYTHING IN CLASS, I learn more on my own and YOUTUBE than he taught in the class. I DONT RECOMMEND TAKING HIM I GUARANTEE YOU WILL REGRET IT.
Just try and find a better professor.
If you have other options in terms of choosing a professor, then try to avoid this guy. While I had no problems in his class, there is no denying how monotonous and boring his lectures are. Breaks are few and far in between and the testsquizzes are nothing the like the homework or the lectures. Oh, and he doesn't curve. Ever.
He does NOT go through all the material. When taking his class, it was more of a self learn class. Very monotonous and boring, making it hard to concentrate and follow. He does not explain the process in detail.
I do not understand why this professor is still allowed to teach at this school. Our class began this year with 30 students, and we now have around 12. He blows through the material stating, "you should already know this" No sir. This is why we are attending your class! I am having to teach myself everything from MyMathLab and pay for a tutor!!
just stay home and teach yourself from the book. hostile to questions. doesn't give solutions to exam review so you are left unsure if you are wrong or right. never gives the class an opportunity to try problems in class. all of my classmates agree with this.
I know he gets a lot of heat for his accent and teaching, but he was willing to help, gives partial credit on testsquizzes. Do the home works! They aren't graded but he takes questions from the home works. I took him for MAC1105 and MAC1147 and passed with a high B on each.
As if college algebra isn't hard enough, learning Mr. Vafa's linguistics is a free obstacle included. His mind thinks in physics. He's far too intelligent to teach the average student. He expects you to already know it, as he refreshes you. Save yourself the heartache. Out of 30 students, 3 passed our class.
Apparently in the US, speaking English is not always a requirement for teaching classes. That really makes things difficult. Lets be real: If you have to spend half the class deciphering what the hes saying, you're doomed for failure. Having an extremely low class average doesnt mean you are that rigorous of a teacher. It means you don't care.
This professor is hard to understand. Talking to him is about as easy as teach Börat sarcasm. Technologivally incompetent and about as easy to listen to as an audio book of a phone book at normal speed. Expect massive homework and tests almost unrelated to the material. Online services he uses for homework assignments are nonsensical.
Attendance was not required in this class, but if you want to pass, show up and work for it. You can disagree but isn't that what college is all about? Yes, there was a lot of homework, but if you grind it out, you'll be prepared for the tests. If you don't understand something, ask him after class and he will stay and explain. I will take again.
If you have any hope, wish, or inkling that you may pass Int. Algebra then stay away from his class. He knows what he is talking about but there is really no interaction, youre going to be in the library a lot. He works problem in class but you have self-teach. Plus side he use my math lab & quick responded to email. Wait to drop deadline.
I regret taking a class with him. Monotone. I can count on one hand the # of times he directly addressed us. Makes mistakes in examples at least once a class. The homework online is really the only way to pass. CHECK CONSTANTLY FOR QUIZZES. He won't tell you he posted them, and then you'll miss it and have a 0.
This prepress or was the worst professor I ever had. I took trigonometry last term with him, and it started out with 15 people in the class, before mid-term there was only 4 of us left, and on the last day, only 3 of us were left in the class. i didn't pass. He's very difficult to understand and very unhelpful. He crams too much Info in one class.
Besides the accent his lectures are boring, he doesn't explain things well and expects you to do everything his way anything else is wrong, if approached with a problem that was marked wrong even if it's right he will answer with "you didn't do it like I thought you"... And the many quizzes that he gives have little to nothing to do with the exams.
He puts questions on the test that are much harder than the lessons he goes over and the homework he assigns.
This man is very hard to understand. I was pretty good at algebra in high school. (C/o 2013) I took MAC1105 in spring 2015. I could not understand his foreign accent. His monotone voice was very boring. His teaching pace was too fast. I ended up failing the class. So I strongly advise not to choose this teacher.
I took this gentleman for a summer course and was absolutely disappointed. All he does is keeps his back turned to the class while he stands in fornt of the board writing problems as if he's explaining the process of solving the problem to himself (thinking out loud I guess). if you want to pass, DONT DO IT. He is not the one!
This man is the worst professor ever. He will often say "it doesn't matter how i got this answer. Just know that this is the answer." He's not helpful AT ALL!!He'll huff his breath , and act like a child when you ask a question. Do NOT take this class, I'm telling you this for your own sanity.
I don't know the syllabus doesn't match what's being graded online in my math lab. The syllabus grading system does not make sense. On top of that he grade hard, the exams are worth 75% of the grade so if u fail an exam horribly it's over with. The homework in quizzes don't bring a significant change in grades to me.
This professor stands in the front of the board the entire class writing and talking. He is very monotone , making it hard to understand and stay attentive. He sometimes give 5 minutes for a few problems, but no classwork at all. Quizzes given each week. The tests are more difficult than the notes taken in class. I wouldn't suggest this professor.
I took this professor online for pre calculus and trigonometry. The homework and quizzes for this course barely help your grade if you do bad on a test. The tests are worth more than 50% of your grade. I would not take this professor again.
I took this professor as my first college class. Never will i ever again, he doesn't care about if you're learning or not. He gives attitudes when you ask for help. hes late to his own class 10 minutes every class. hes very monotone and hes not a good teacher at all. he makes simple problems harder than what they really are.
I took this professor online for precalc. Although I didnt get lectured by him, I can tell he really cares about his student's success. The tests were hard, but everything else was easy. He opens up the homework and quizzes windows at the end of the semester to help your grade. Reading these comments I was intimidated but he's great!
I took this course online and although I didnt get lectured by this prof, I can tell he really cares about his student's success. The tests were hard, but everything else was easy. He opens up the homework and quizzes windows at the end of the semester to help your grade. Reading these comments I was intimidated but he's great!
Lectured every minute of the class every single class except exam days. Be ready for a weekly quiz. It was also very hard to understand the lectures due to his thick accent. I wouldn't take this class again.
The worst lecturer I have ever had. AVOID this professor at all costs.
tough but will recommend him for those who are up for challenges
The teacher was lazy and unorganized. I took the class online but even when I went to campus to see him in person to ask for help he was very unhelpful. No practice test. No partial credit. No re-opening of assignments at the end of the term. LOTS of material to cover. It wasn't the material that made this class difficult.
I missed one day of class and was so far behind in my notes and work that I could not recover. I would say that this class has caused more stress than anything else in my life. His tests are insanely hard and he tries to fit as many chapters into one test as possible. Even if you wanted a "challenge", I still would not recommend his class.
He was a very tough grader. Did not like it when students veered away from his way of teaching. Was very disorganized. You will not know when exams are coming up. He has no schedule on his syllabus so be prepared to be lost. His homework is not graded and not checked. He covers material that is not in the chapter and jumps from section to section.
He would give take home quiz that were posted on blackboard. The students have to print them out and bring them to class the next day. Well i had the class on Monday and Wednesday. Most of the time he would post the quizzes on blackboard saturday or sunday morning and then make them due Monday. That doesnt give the student enough time to complete.
I took him for Intermediate Algebra. Although his lectures took forever, I found them to be very helpful. He really takes the time to go through each example step by step, and if you dont understand, he will re-explain the problem with the class. I would recommend his class for any beginner taking Algebra.
Too be honest, my last semester was a very big challenge for me, class was so difficult, lots of home works and quizzes and with the exams the timing was not enough complete.
He was my professor for intermediate algebra as well as my current MAC 1105 class. It is an online class, so you have very minimal contact with the teacher. You watch videos to learn the material, so it wouldn't be fair to give him anything but a positive review. He emails back pretty promptly if there are any issues. Grading is mostly from tests.
The professor gets an "F". If you do not understand or don't like math I would suggest another professor. He makes so many mistakes when teaching. Thankfully I new better. There is so ALOT of homework. I am not sure how he is even allowed to teach. Did a huge disservice preparing the class for College Algebra.
Be prepared for lots of homework. But works with you & has open door policy. Accessible. He really wants to help you learn. Humble & patient. Enjoys open to class participation. Math not my strong point. He helped me & I got an A overall. Drops lowest quiz & gives 2 chances pers quiz at home.
He rushed through lessons and didn't explain them thoroughly. The last week before exams he went over new material which we only had a few days to attempt to learn. He gives a ton of homework and most of it isn't even on the tests.
He's one of the worse instructor I've had. he's not very patient, doesn't explained when you ask him question about a problems.
His accent is very heavy so it's hard to understand him and he talks very low. When you try to ask him a question about something he gets frustrated. What he says in his syllabus and emails is completely different from what he says. If you miss quizzes or tests because of an emergency he won't let you make it up so you fail that assignment.
To me this Professor was great, after 20+ years out of school, he was there to answer any question I had in class or after hours. Dont just settle for a passing grade in homework, you have unlimited times until the due date to get your 100 or doing the work early. If you fail, you didnt take full advantage of his grading criteria. Generous grader
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. He would copy the book and come up with the wrong instructions/answers. The whole class was the students mostly critiquing his mistakes. He would cover so much material and and was terrible at explaining things. Do not take him
His response to COVID is terrible. He pushed us to take a test the week we came back and it was next to impossible. His response was to pay $25 for proctor. I assume many people didn't take the test because then he allowed them to take it with no proctor at all. What about the people who struggled to get it done? He doesn't teach anyways. Garbage.
Tough grading criteria
Just another professor who has no idea how to keep their students interested.
This was the worst class I have ever taken with the worst professor by far! He started right away doing algebra problems on a small white board and never took time to explain how MathLab works or walk you through anything. He only gives one attempt per exam and will post the exam on Monday morning with a due date of 12:00PM same day! I could go on.
Careful taking this course. This teacher is not very interactive, he also has a very thick accent and you will be watching hours worth of him doing tons of equations on a tiny white board that's not even focused properly on his video. He covers entirely way too much material a week, tests open the day of and you must complete it that same day.
Assigned (mandatory) 6+ hours of homework a week even though it counts for basically nothing towards your grade (cant take quiz if you dont). First prof not to offer any type of practice exams (even through MathLab would just be a click of a button). Teaches class in a monotone voice on a tiny board and doesn't answer emails.
Proff spent his two and a-half hour class time going over the same thing, He was talking so slow, which was a dowser, just so he could extend the class time. He was lenient to me when I failed a test, he let me retake, but it would take him forever to reply to emails (meaning he would get back to you at midnight). Honestly would not take again.
My first semester with professor vafabakhsh was online with lectures, they lasted 2 1/2 hours and the camera was often out of focus, so that plus his accent made his lectures very hard to understand. My second semester was online only and much easier. There's 3 "proctored" exams but they arent actually. Easy to reach over email but hard to talk to.
Online class, camera often out of focus and writes off the screen so students cannot see what he is writing. Not tech saavy. VERRRRRY LECTURE HEAVY. NO ROOM FOR QUESTIONS UNLESS YOU CONTACT HIM BY EMAIL. I may have to re take this required course and will definitely be in a classroom.
I would only recommend this course for student's who already have a strong math base. The method of teaching consists of writing out problems with a projector above his hand, making it difficult to see the entire problem. There will be multiple assignments assigned will be due within 48 hours of being assigned with a due date over the weekend.
