This was the worst online course I've ever had, this teacher was not helpful and very unclear about instructions. I'm glad this was only a general education course.
This teacher was very unclear on grading standards and the assignments were not explained with great clarity. Thought this class should be the focus of your studies, no matter how many classes you actually had.
This was the worst class I've ever taken! Tests did not reflect the material we were told to study. Wrote 10 pages of notes a night, for nothing, because hardly any of it was on the test. Unorganized with slideshows, and unfocused on what to teach.
Mumbles, self-contradicting, teaches off subject, teaches without factual evidence and without having researched subject properly to give insight to students. Some projects assigned so not benefit the intent of the class.
took online and it was pretty easy. didnt even read the books, just weekly lect. she took FOREVER to grade anything. it wasn't until week 8 that i knew what grade i was getting. a lot of work (weekly assignments/postings, 2 projects, midterm, final). too much (some of it was all dueat same time.
This class was such a pain, there are weekly assignment/disscussion board posts. there are three big papers to write(midterm, term project, final) but she grades extremely easy, I haven't learned a thing in that class and I have a A. just stick with it.
Muslim art w/ heavy emphasis on Islamic theology, more then necessary for instruction. Lecture notes poor resource for weekly questions as they did not address homework issues. Required a lot of outside study to come up w/ good answers. Not clear organization or good clarity. Long delay on posting grades.
HORRIBLE TEACHER! She rambles on and on and will never admit to not knowing something. If she doesn't know it, she'll make it up. Class lectures are worthless, unorganized, and all over. For tests, just write a lot, even if you know nothing on the subject. you will get a decent grade.
I would say generally a decently easy class, except the work is very time consuming and a little difficult to understand what exactly she wants. If you just follow what she writes in the lectures and write that on your assignments, you'll pass the class with a B. Final and projects very vague. More of a politics and religion class than art.

I have to disagree with all of the other comments. I think she was one of the best teachers Ive had at Sierra. If your not into the subject the class can be boring, but if your into art, this class is extremely helpful and interesting. There are a lot of notes and the tests arent hard if you study the material given. She was wonderful to work with and very helpful. I learned a lot and really enjoyed her art appreciation class!
The class itself is a breeze if you want an easy A. I did the online course and it was just a pain because it was so easy but its great if your taking a full course load and need an easy A. Grades extremely easy to. I plan on taking more OL course with her.
she has such good intentions, and is so nice but the class is a snoozer. the whole class period is all slide show and slow. if you dont have a burning passion for truly appreciating art take a basic painting class or drawing class. it will be much more "hands on" and less of a bore.
She is a great teacher. I got B in her class. She is really easy and helpful. The class that I took was online. The midterm and the final is easy. She doesn't give out quizes, she just tells her students to write no more than a 2 page essay on a art work. I suggest that everyone should take her she's a easy and nice teacher.
She is so sweet! The class is impossible to fail. She tells you everything you need to know for every test or quiz...no homework. There are a few projects...you'll get a good grade as long as you show up. It's a little boring but not too bad.
Do not take this class, in fact sierra should BAN this class....It had too much of a religious accent to the class that was unneeded. Plus calling the art Islamic is not appropriate and quite problematic itself. I was offended by the class and its religious context several times and I'm an atheist......
tests are a little on the hard side. just study the material and read highlights of the book.
DO NOT take Online art 1F with this teacher!! I have straight A's at Sierra and in this class I got a C. It is seriously HARD and I didn't learn ONE THING. I don't even know how I ended up getting a C.
Not sure why some people posted such negative things about Prof.Mirmobini. She is extremely organized, completely competant and highly educated in Art and Art history. She is always patient and is always respectful TO EVERYONE. Sounds like some people have posted things that are very misleading about her. Dont believe them.
I don't understand how you could complain about this class, it was easy and really fun. I don't even think she reads the papers you turn in, I always got a 100 out of 100 on papers and tests. she gives out loads of extra credit. She loves art and I really enjoyed her class, and hope to take more with her.
I found professor Mirmobiny to be one of the best teachers. She was very nice and helpful. I was a studio art major and she was willing to look at my work during her office hour. She's the teacher that allowed me to enjoy art history much more. Before I didn't want to take art history at all, now I go to UC Davis and take it as an elective.
I took this class online and it was easy but somewhat time consuming. There are homework questions each week(about 10-15) and 2 essay tests that she gives you a week to do(easy). The class is very interesting and the teacher is an extremely easy grader.
Honestly, this class was a lot more work than I thought it would be. It's online, but the weekly questions can be time consuming. My only complaint about the professor is that it takes a while to get grades on assignments posted. She's a very attentive teacher though, and I really did find the subject interesting and easy to read about.
OL class, little or no interaction. feels like self-taught.
Very nice lady. Extremely organized and easy to follow notes and lecture. Crystal clear to understand. TONS OF HOMEWORK. Short answer essays EVERY WEEK. Average-4pgs/week typed. If you have the time then you will be ok but if not, you're in trouble. No tests-that's the good part-just tons of writing. Don't miss class and don't be late! Great teache
good teacher, am taking the online class and its pretty easy but the assignments take a while. 1 assignment a week, discussion once a week, 2 exams, 1 project. Not a hard class to pass if you do the reading and turn in the assignment on time!
Do not take her online class for art 1F, she is insanely unclear on her questions and what she wants. Her textbook is unclear and my goodness she needs to take a grammar class or learn how to speak in general. The class itself has maybe 20% to do with art the rest is all Islamic Theocracy and Religious Politics.
It's true that she can be hard to understand but if you can read, you can figure out what she is saying in context. I found the class really interesting but be warned that it is more about the history of Islam and not as much about the works of art individually like in other art history classes. Assignments are easy to get an A - just show effort
Whomever it is giving her a hard time must not be too bright. If you put in the effort you will be rewarded. It is a lot of work but she grades fairly. If you read the book and pay attention to her lectures you will do well! If you don't then don't take her class, and go back to high school or spec.ed. She is the sweetest soft spoken lady.Recommend
her speeches are kind of boring.. look at the subject. but it was a pretty easy class. although a part of her seems bored/tired of teaching the subject. monotonous?
She is a really sweet teacher. If you do not understand what she wants in an assignment you can email her and she will clarify. The book reading is tiresome but overall its not a hard class. Not very much homework, you just have to pay attention to lectures and read the book.
She's a very nice teacher but in all honesty she shouldn't be teaching art history. About 20% of her class is actually about art, the rest is needless history, however she expects all of your work to be based in art. She tells you upfront that her lectures are a supplement and should be teaching yourself with the book. Avoid this class.
I took her online class, and you are basically teaching yourself with the book! Assignments are not graded in a timely fashion, so you do not know where you stand until the end-- no feedback. If you like teaching yourself...this is your class!
Took her online Islamic Art class. Nothing is graded until the end of the semester so you never really knew where you stood. Unclear on assignments and performance even when emailed. No tests, just a lot of papers. I really wanted to like this class, but I didn't learn anything. I felt like I was stabbing in the dark the entire semester.
I took her Art 1F online class and it was one of my worst decision I ever made. I basically get to study for the first week and was forced to drop. If you are looking for some serious learning with proper guidance please don't take her or else feel yourself slipping into the crack.
WORST teacher EVER!!! Online class with no guidence whatsoever. Completely contradictory and incomprehensible assignments, Doesnt answer questions. Takes MONTHS to grade ANYTHING. Holds students to a MUCH higher standard than she adheres to. Is rude and consescending. DONT TAKE HER!!!!!!!
I really liked her! Her lectures were interesting, if a bit off-topic sometimes. However, I would've liked it if the class didn't focus almost exclusively on architecture, though, as I understand, that's pretty much standard for this course. She's a generous grader, though the prompts for the papers are sort of odd. Good instructor overall
She has .pdf's of all her lecture slideshows available on BlackBoard, which makes note-taking easy. Several long-term assignments, but they're clearly laid out at the beginning of term and she's happy to answer any questions about what she's looking for. Show up, take notes, and you'll get an A. Very interesting class!
She is nice. Grades easily. Takes forever to grade stuff though...
Online Islamic art is VERY EASY. If you want to clear your art requirement but don't want to draw, then this is for you. Discussion board attendance is minimal, and essays take a little while to write, but she grades them VERY VERY easily. I got 95 on the midterm and 100 on the final. She takes a long time to grade, but don't worry, you got an A.
The easiest A you will ever receive. Requires next to no effort for high scores. Learned absolutely NOTHING. Very disappointed.
Most. Boring. Class. Ever. Im a good student and granted art's not my fav but I don't think she could have made it more boring. She's not that nice either. I got an A on every assignment (theyre at least easy) but yet she gave me a B I don't think she liked me or anyone who wasn't interested. Again..... Bore. Ing.
She was passionate about what she taught. She would find us online videos to further clarify the subject. I thought it was relatively easy, while a friend of mine who was taking the same class with a different professor hated this class the most. From my observations I would say that she is the best in her department.
Took online. This is a very easy class to get an A in. Read the text, take quiz (up to two times), and post & reply once per week on DB. Midterm & final are essays, with very broad prompts. She's a very generous grader, however! This isn't the most exciting or interactive class, so you'll need to buck up and keep yourself motivated to get it done.
Took her Islamic Art Hist class. First off you use HER book with NO PICTURES. I'm not sure she's familiar with the english language, felt like I didn't learn a single thing. Thank goodness for documentaries and my own research outside the class. A complete waste
If you want to put zero effort into your class, do not take her courses. However, if you are willing to put some effort in (not an unreasonable amount) then take her classes. The information is interesting, and she is pretty thorough. I don't think English is her first language, but again, a little effort and you will be just fine.
Took the class online and it required alot of reading, took end of chapter quizzes that you could take up to 2 times, projects were very simple, you have weekly discussions and as long as you make an effort and participate in discussions you will do fine, I didnt think i was one of the greatest at it and i still got an A in the class.
This was one of the worst classes I've ever taken. She is passionate about the subject, but a terrible teacher. Everyone in the class is constantly confused, and its easy to forget you even have this class until Monday because of how little of an impact it makes.
Best online teacher I've had (of about 10 online classes). Good lectures w/visuals on the BB every week, plus printouts of the lectures. Homework is reasonable, exams are lengthy but you get two attempts. Read the syllabus people, and do the reading and the work and you'll get a good grade. Met her, very nice person, liked her a lot.
The worst! Does not communicate or answer questions well at all. Has a ton of quizzes, which aren't too hard. Expects you to read the chapters, the lectures, additional videos etc. seemed like a lot for one class.
Horrible professor. Obsessed with the subject matter but not able to relate to students. Would have been much easier with a different teacher.
In this class we have participation questions everyday so attendance is necessary even though everything she does is online every test and quiz, and all lectures and slide shows. Class feels long because she talks the entire time. Sometimes it does not seem that she knows what she is talking about.
Shadieh is the nicest woman. She is extremely knowledgeable, I herd that she wrote a book. You would have to try to not get an A in her class. She is not a boring person, but the subject she teaches I am not interested in, and that makes the class boring sometimes. I never came to class on time, and she was very understanding with me. Love her
Beginning of each class you fill out a group discussion worksheet. Then she lectures on the chapter. On your own time, you have a journal where you write down interesting stuff you learned for each week and a relevant art piece to go with each. You get 2 attempts for each test, so it's easy to pass them. The tests are straight from the book.
Homework and quizzes were easy to ace with little effort, so if you need to be pushed to learn and you actually do want to learn versus just getting a grade, you might be disappointed. She grades absolutely nothing until the end, so you go along blind. Interesting lectures and good perspective if you already care about the subject. Nice lady.
Don't take this class OL, you'll probably forget about it. Prof doesn't engage with the class at all. If you email her she won't respond. She posts an announcement at the beginning of the week telling us what week we're in, and that's it. She hasn't graded a single thing yet and we only have 4 weeks left! Quizzes are easy, straight from the book.
The class is very interesting but the teacher is terrible. She is not organised and she puts due dates that are different from the syllabus. The good thing that there is 2 attempts on the test. I will not take her again unless there is no other option. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I DO NOT LIKE HER !!!!!!!!!!
It was hard to pass the tests on the first round, but you are shown right and wrong answers and it is multiple choice so you can use that to find the correct answers the take it again. Mostly DB , the lectures are helpful for the quizzes so don't just read the text ( but most come from here). The final is fun one topic to cover In visual presentation in 3 min. Then a feedback form for another student. Easy class, interesting because you can learn so much from art and it's history, very nice teacher! not to demanding so it allows flexibility.
Art history 155, online class. This professor is supper respectful, and responds to email very quickly. you can take quizzes 2 times. discussions as long you do it you get full points. and final is a topic you write 3 min presentation. Awesome teacher
The discussion are not graded until the end of the term, and you are down-graded for having long discussion posts. There were times when I was mis-graded on the DB's and had to go through to make sure I was graded properly. If you need to take this class, she won't make you fail, however it's difficult knowing where you stand until the end.
I am writing my review based off of her online class. I don't know if her on campus is better. But this class was very Very disappointing, no interaction, no lectures, one 8 minute video every week, just read the text book on your own and there was NO FEED BACK AT ALL UNTIL 3 DAYS AFTER THE SEMESTER ENDED. no grades at all. It was a joke. Awful.
Her class was simplistic, with every assignment online. It is easy as long as you read the book; lectures are interesting but give the highlights of the chapter while the text gives all of the details that one must know for the quizzes. Must also do quite a few discussion posts but they're also easy as well. She grades attendance!
She's a decent professor, lectures can be slightly boring, and she relies heavily on Khan academy videos to lecture for her. The quizzes are right from the book (get ready for lots of reading), and they can be taken twice. Discussion prompts are sometimes unclear, and aren't graded until after the semester ends. Doesn't communicate outside of class
Easy to pass if you read the book, and do all quizzes/discussions. She doesn't grade anything until the very end. Doesn't give too much feedback either. Emails back very quickly if you have any questions. I missed some quizzes so I got a C, but it would be a very easy A if I didn't.
Good luck taking this class if you have trouble processing information. Her video lectures aren't very clear and kind of awkward. Also, the date for the final project is fake on the syllabus, she blindsided us and expected a video presentation three days before she said the "final project" was due. Absolutely miserable to take during the virus.
She makes you buy her text book which was pretty expensive, and has a bunch of spelling errors in it. The video lectures were very difficult to understand, She does not e-mail back for days, and for our final project, she pushed the finished date two weeks ahead of schedule. She grades based off what is written in her book, than anything else. HARD
The teacher disabled the grade book so you could not see your grade until the end of the class. Very stressful. When I contacted her with simple questions she was rude. There is no textbook and provides khan academy videos as her lectures. Don't recommend it.
I really enjoyed learning from Professor Mirmobiny. Her grading criteria is very clear and provides great feedback. We had weekly quizzes, discussion board and final project. PARTICIPATION is a key in this class. She is not a tough grader, if you respond correctly to the discussion board prompt and post comments on others you will get full credit.
The prof. is rude based on the feedback she gives. Lectures are youtube videos of people explaining art, which is hard to pay attention to. She uses khan academy & gives one short presentation a week. Her grades are disabled so you would not be able to tell what your grade is until the end. If you need credits I recommend a diff. class.
Very rude and ignorant in her submission comments and feedback. Doesnt offer guidance to correct mistakes but instead assumes you dont do the work. Does not post overall grade until the end of the semester, which is annoying and stressful.
This class was a disappointment and I did not enjoy working with this teacher. I found her to be rude in her feedback, occasionally. Most of the material was from YouTube videos so if you dont take EXTREMELY comprehensive notes, its difficult to do well on the quizzes the first time. Thankfully she gives two attempts. She is an easy grader though
8 wk course, Avoid at all costs. Heed the warnings of other reviews. Lectures are nonexistent must self teach material. Gives 2 tries for quizzes (the only good thing). Get ready to watch TONS of Youtube videos. Quizzes on things not gone over. Avoid this prof you'll be happier if you do.
She is lazy. Lectures are under a minute with no depth of material and requires to watch YT vids instead. Feedback is nonexistent. Waits to grade until end of term u never know how u are doing or what to work on to improve. Quizzes are 2 tries! Tests on mat not covered. This class is a joke! I hope she gets fired or retired.
Really bad for an online course, and the readings you do is pretty hard to interpret. It's about 30 pages a week with two attempts on the quiz. The Quizs are 50+ questions to, so you'll definitely be retaking cause College loves memorization. Not only did I hate this class, but it makes me hate our college institutions with a burning passion.
Takes on middle east withindoctrinated western lense and views islam from a western christian lense. Uses HERown book..that basicallysays ifound this thing about topicA andThisThingabouttopic B sotherefore I draw this random conclusion. Not art history, just her own theorizations and self drawn conclusions about Islam.AWay to sell her own book for$
There was no lectures by her, all of the content was YouTube videos. Really didn't need to watch them, most of it was just vocabulary. Grading is a little all over the place, will do work based on vague instructions and be graded on specific things. Assignments have a due date and an available until date, no deduction of points if submit in between
Allergic to explaining grading criteria
All of her lectures were YouTube videos from Khan Academy and other sources. When grading she said I was merely describing the art rather than analyzing, but when asked for further feedback she did not provide any and gave me an F on the project. Still earned an A, but rather picky about small details.
Islamic art history looked pretty interesting to me. But her coursework was very book heavy and not really engaging. I don't know much about the professor, but I probably wouldn't take another class of hers if it was all heavy reading.
Horrible, she currently has an administrator reviewing her course so it seems her teaching style is catching up to her. Very rude, leaves lots of feedback but in a downright rude manner. She's your typical art snob and expects her students to be the same.
The content of the class was cool and I did learn something. She was mostly non existent during the class so everything was self taught. If you try to reach out you probably won't get a response. Your going to be watching a lot of slideshows so grab a coffee. Decent class to fill a requirement. Not a lot of coursework at all and decent grader.
had to take her class because i accidentally didn't pay for my other art history class and got dropped but that was the worst mistake of my life because her grading and feedback on simple assignments makes me want to rip my hair out. she started out nice but if she suspects you're not actually interested in art her criticism will get annoying fast
