Do not feel like he is easy, he is not. He will make you feel like your grade is worth it. He responds quickly, from emails. He is here to here to help you, he will round your grade. He is one of the best econ, teachers.
Took this class online via canvas, every class I've taken like this before I've had no issue. Professor doesn't know how to use canvas. Assignments are clumped together in blocks so can be hard to tell due dates unless you're always checking the syllabus. Drops one of tests, quizzes every week. Tough grader, I think you can find a better professor
Shafin is an easy A for ECON. I listened to all the lectures on x2 speed and rarely studied. He only assigns discussion boards and quizzes once a week along with tests periodically. There aren't a ton of assignments so if you hate homework, this is the class to take.
Maybe this professor was good in person, but he is awful online. The meeting are for nothing, we literally do nothing and still HAVE to attend, it is graded. The lectures he have online are discussing. There are 36 videos each week and they are really vague and too long. The whole 6 hours of lectures could fit in 1 hour. Bad, very bad lectures!
I had the opportunity to attend Prof Shafin's Macro and Micro classes. Needless to say, he knows his knowledge to the fullest extent and is very transparent in his expectations. Concepts are broken down barney style. The tests are a major part of the grade, and the homework is a great practice to prepare for the tests.
I absolutely love shafin. His lectures can be tedious and they're mandatory but his class is very easy. If you keep up with lectures there's not reason not to get an A. He makes it very easy for his students to succeed. You do need to do the work though! Very clear teaching style and he's super sweet! Highly recommend
I loved professor Ali, He makes Economics interesting. His lectures are awesome. You don't have to read the book. I focused and took really good notes on the lectures and got really good grades on Midterms and tests. There are some scheduling changes week to week if there are holidays, keep your syllabus calendar handy for review. Recommend!!
Professor Ali is a very sharp teacher. You can tell just by talking to him that he knows his stuff. Class is harder than usual but professor has good presentations to help with all topics.
Professor Ali knows economics very well and teaches the concepts in an easily comprehensible manner. His lecture videos do tend to run a bit long but can be sped up. Weekly discussion posts and quizzes aren't very difficult. Just pay attention to the lectures and you'll be totally fine on the exams.
Pay attention to lectures; they're a bit long but necessary. Weekly quizzes and DBs. Practice quizzes are available for no credit. Four midterms and a final. Easy to pass if you know the material. Lectures aren't riveting, but putting it on 2x speed can make it better.
pretty solid choice I took this course over the summer so it was quite fast for 6 weeks not that tuff 13 quizzes 13 practice Qs 3 midterms but lowest gets dropped and 1 final exam lectures are okay just watch them at 2x and you will be fine discussion boards and all that the modules are a little confusing so i would stick to the syallbus to help u
I did not think I would enjoy econ but professor Ali made it fun and he has funny star wars and matrix references in his lectures. The lectures are easy to digest but they are long so I would put them on 1.5 times the speed. If you take notes on the lectures and pay attention to the practice quizzes it should be an easy A-
Ive taken 3 of Professor Alis Econ courses and he is one of my favorites. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about economics and is also super caring. All of his courses are structured very similarly, with 4-5 exams, chapter quizzes, and discussion boards. Definitely recommend him!!!
Professor Ali is great, I have enjoyed his lectures. This class is good and he will help if you need it. I like professor Ali because he cares about his students and he knows his econ. If you ever need anything, he will be there for you. I will be taking another one of his classes next semester!
Professor Ali is absolutely a great professor. He is always available if you need help and ensures you understand his points. He is very thorough and love his personal stories not too many but makes the lectures relatable, it helps when you are learning something new. Lectures are kinda long but beats reading the dry books. He is a fair grader.
Professor Ali is a great professor for Econ. My course was entirely online, yet his Canvas was so organized and easy to understand. He offers late work for a limited amount of time for partial credit which is great, and he also reaches out to you if something was missing to make sure you had an opportunity to make it up.
Interesting, well structured class. Professor Ali clearly puts a lot of time and effort into his classes, and it's all the same format each week so it's easy to get into the groove of things!
Professor Ali is amazing! The coursework is clear and easy to understand. I took the once a week zoom class and it really helped. He uses the course work for his quizzes and tests. All work is easily laid out online. He is really nice, enjoys helping you if you have questions and if funny! You can tell he cares and enjoys what he does!
I took Professor Ali for Econ 101. 201 was just a great with him as my teacher! He is always available, the course work is easy to access, quizzes and test are all from his course work and study guides are give before hand. I was sad when his class ended, because he is my favorite teacher! He is funny and takes the time to answer questions.
professor shafin is a rare breed of teacher who cares about their students. When a deadline for a quiz is near he emails you a reminder which teachers rarely do. He wants you to absorb the information by making his lectures as clear as possible with analogies and such. If you are searching for a class take him as your professor
Shafin is just a pretty good teacher. I liked his in person lectures, but his pre-recorded were wayyy to long and sometimes he is a little long winded. However he is very organized and very clear about what he wants. His class was pretty easy and he is very easy to communicate with, he also explains the concepts pretty well.
I took the summer semester course and it was a struggle to get though. The workload was overwhelming due to the long-winded lectures that were hard to follow and did not relate to our quizzes or tests. You only get 1 try on the quizzes so good luck! He said textbook was required so I bought one, but the class never used anything from it.
I took Prof. Shafin Ali's ECON 101 course! His assignments are very straightforward, and you are guaranteed to do well IF you take the time to study his lectures. I took his online course, and it was easy to stay on top of things because he sent out numerous reminders when assignments were due. He's always available outside of class as well!
The class was very organized and the guidelines were made very clear. The HW correlated to what we were tested on, and it was a really easy class if you did the homework and paid attention in class. Also, Shafin was very helpful and the lectures were interesting.
His YouTube videos have no views, you should know what that means.
Do not take this class if it is a short term 6 week course. Too many lectures that could be better summarized and explained better. does not accept late work. Awful course
Fairly average workload, took his class over the summer. Lectures tie in directly with the material. I would take his class again honestly. It is very clear he knows the subject well and is passionate about his work. I have 0 complaints. Easy-ish A if you apply yourself a bit.
Each week is 3 hours of lectures and then a short quiz broken up by four midterms. The lectures are slow, but you can speed up the playback speed. Plenty of resources to help you learn material and understand mistakes on assessments. Can retake quizzes. Used resources from the ultra-conservative think-tank, the Heritage Foundation.
Professor Shafin is amazing! His lectures are fun and intriguing, but can drag on a bit. His tests are clear and come directly from the material. He is great at answering questions and there is always a review before each exam. Overall, great class and I'm excited to have him for 102.
He made Econ a great course to take. He is not a difficult professor but I did have to work for my grade.
Super super long lectures where he goes off on unnecessary tangents and isn't concise in what could be very simple concepts. Videos sometimes have really bad audio quality. Only bearable in 2x speed. Incredibly easy to get an A since you can retake quizzes, but not my favorite class.
He is a wonderful professor and if you actually want to learn econ he is great choice, however your grade is super dependent on the four midterms and final (he drops one midterm) and the 13 hw's, they determine your grade 100% . So if your not great at showing up to class or just are taking it for an easy pass, maybe take him online.
The professor was great he answered emails quickly and even on the weekends. He is awesome all around.
The professor is awesome. He answered emails really quickly and even on the weekends. I can't say he is one of the best professors showing he loves teaching.
His class is easy. Attend his lectures, and you'll never be lost. He does everything in his power to make sure his students don't fail. He has study guides, homework, and classwork to help you prepare for midterms. He has a really good personality, you can tell he loves what he teaches. The way he explains hard topics and makes them digestible.
He is a wonderful teacher and fair. He is clear in his teaching and grading. Be sure to study and do the work, you will be fine. Highly recommend.
In the first lecture, I was concerned he seemed to be unclear at the grand picture as he jumped in straight away. But I must say this professor's way of explaining things is the best I've experienced. It seems like a lot but I promise he makes it clear and it's not a lot. Lectures @ 2x recommendation.
Great Professor! The lectures are long but you can watch them is 1.5x speed to go through it quickly. He repeats a lot of information thr
Professor Ali knows what he's talking about. His lectures long, but well-explained. If you listen attentively, they will prepare you well for the class. He is almost always reachable via his office hours if you need any help/have questions. I appreciated that he explained the "why" of concepts, instead of "this is how it works and that's that." 👍
I took this class in person, and although I attended all the lectures and classes, I was always lost and confused. The workload is okay, and the classes are only lecture-based. I would say that the teacher is great and caring, but if you are not good at lectures, take this class online rather than in person. Seriously, take it online.
Professor Ali is a great ECON prof. He provides numerous opportunities to get an A in this class. His lectures are long, but in depth and provide everything you need to master a concept. Simply, do the work, watch the lectures, and take the tests to be fine in this class.
He's such a good professor that he made me seriously consider switching my major to econ since he makes it so easy and interesting to understand. He's also funny and you'll definitely laugh during lectures. Great lecturer and professor overall, and very understanding! I'll be taking micro econ with him in the spring.
Professor Ali is one of my favorite math professors I've had in my academic career. His course is clear and easy to follow and he gives plenty of time to complete assignments & even work ahead. His lectures are long but all found on Youtube along with the answers to his practice & weekly quizzes. The only way to fail is not to try at all here.
Took the course online it was very straightforward and not a lot of work, just discussions and quizzes. His lectures are simple and easy to understand, and he is quick to respond through email.
Hmk:easy discussion every week (just explain an incorrect answer)+quizzes for video lectures due before midterm. He has practice quizzes for each lesson that can be taken infinite times and were lowk really helpful (esp when reviewing for midterms/final). Lectures get long but 2xspeed is fine. Midterms/final are practically the same as quizzes.
the actual goat. hes so good at explaining stuff but the lectures are long so be ready to put in a good amount of time. discussion boards, quizzes and tests are all relatively easy. ONLY take him if youre an econ major and you acc need to know this stuff well
Very unorganized, berated a student in front of the whole class for asking a question, unclear materials, would not recommend nor would take again.
Easy class for online would take again but can be VERY unclear, highly recommend you use outside sources. Exams are hit or miss on ease, sometimes they cover what we covered other times it's topics we brushed over. Can be incredibly rude and go back on his word. If it comes to it make sure you have receipts Does not accommodate emergencies well.
The assignments and homework are easy to get through and Shafin provides plenty of time to get them done. As a lecturer, he over-explains and drags out examples/analogies to the point that lectures are 3-5 hours long. It's hard to focus when explanations are so strung out. He can also be very passive aggressive and difficult to communicate with
Took his online course; his lectures are very long, and I do recommend watching outside sources like those for AP microecon to learn his material. Overall, if you pay attention to the quizzes and the pre-quizzes, you can effectively study for the exams.
