Very helpful, clear, positive, enthusiastic, and fun. Uses complex test questions which are designed to meter what you've learned, helping her to lecture more effectively. You'll have to work for your grade, but there's E.C. to help out a little bit.
Worst teacher I ever had. Rarely answered questions and made me feel stupid for asking them. I ended dropping the class halfway through because she didn't know how to teach! DON'T TAKE HER!!!
Nice lady, but difficult to understand at times. She will teach you the basics and expect you to understand more difficult concepts on the test. Tests are very hard. At least 2/3 of the class dropped.
Worst teacher I ever had. Did not teach well, did not explain, there was no clarity in her speech and worst of all she thinks she's funny. To make it clear to you out of the 40 students in her class 25 dropped.
people, please don't take her. She rambels on about worthless material that isn't even covered on the test. Her notes are unclear and labs are disorganized.
She is a really nice lady, but she teaches in an unorganized manner. She is willing to work with you on terms of assignments etc., but her tests arent that easy and she tends to forget a lot of conversations you might have with her in private.
she is Ok,but I recommend ciurash for chem60

She is a nice lady, but teaches in an aunorganized manner. She is understanding and willing to work with you about assignments. Her labs are a joke, but her tests are difficult. She also forgets a lot of things you might have talked about.
Worst teacher ever!!!!!! She is not supposed to be a chem 60 teacher she teaches the class as if it is 101 or 102
she should do something else than teaching. She should be a Military instructor. completely <anal< about everything. lol
she's the best teacher i ever had .she's a really nice person and she really teaches great and if u really study and do your lab you will get an "A".

NICE TEACHER BUT HARD TEST
She is a nice lady, but please don't let that fool u!!! English is not her first language and she is too wordy sometimes. She is very anal about the labs and her tests are very very hard. She likes to be evil on her tests. Like I said as a person she is very nice but as a professor she is hard.
SHE SUCKS!
If you really want to learn chemistry and plan on taking Chem 101 and up, I HIGHLY recommend her. She is hard no doubt but not impossible and you really learn in her class.
She's cute, but very very very unclear and diffictult for those who are not able to memorize the material. If you don't have photographic memory, don't take this class. She likes to teach for those who are the "Cream of the Crop." She's not nice to persians, even though she is.
she knows chemistry she knows how to answere your questions but be carful with labs and exams you never know what is going to be on her exams and all she cares are labs and exams. she likes boys better than girls.Try to be friend with her if you are a boy and if you are girl go take the cours with someone else.
she is not a good professor at all, she is very difficult, she tries to go slow but does not answer your questions, try to find another teacher for this class :(
She has very high standards, and if you ever went through the old school British system; then you may survive the class. She is out to make Chemist s. Please NO joy ridding in her class. An "A" in her class is 99% perspiration and 1% inspiration. You have to study hard !!! I mean no movies no partying Good luck. Recomeded for Chem Majore, She is sm
She is an amazing teacher. You need to think in her class, that's all she's asking you to do. The only reason someone would not do too well is if they didn't study. Don't be lazy like most people.
Take her if you want to learn.
Shes a very hard teacher to understand.. and not very willing to help you!! I have a 3.5+ GPA and she made chem. soo confusing for me! Take Goodman hes great, not easy, but so willing to make you understand!!
She's a good teacher; she asks you to study and is too lenient sometimes with lazy people who should not take chemistry in the first place...If you like chemistry choose her.
She is a wonderful teacher and person. She really wants you to learn, and answers all your questions. She is very kind and clear.she really deserves to go to heaven!!!
She is a very hard professor. She is not helpful, and many students fail her class. Her tests are horrible and very hard. You don't learn well if you take her class.
Bakshandeh is a wonderful person and cares about preparing her students for future chemistry classes. If you think her chem 60 class is hard, consider changing your major to something that doesn't include chemistry. My only complaint about her is that she tends to lecture straight from the book and thats bad because the book sucks.
I think she is a good teacher, however she is very anal especially in doing lab reports. Her lectures are okay. Her test are way harder compared to her lectures. If want to succeed in her class, study at least 10 hours a week and do each and every homework she assigns from the book. This guarantees u at least a B in the class.
A nice person, but her teaching techniques are poor, even though she seems to work hard. Lectures are boring, but tests are hard. She is not flexible. She does not announce important information and does not prepare needed chemicals for the lab. Makes fun of students, puts them down when they ask questions. Mixes you up with someone else, etc.
You spend hours to do your lab reports and get C. Taking points for minor mistakes. Her tests are hard, but if you study you might get a B in class. Don't dream about A unless you are a genius! Yes, she answers your questions, but it does not help you. Take Dr. Ogar!!!! He is the best!
shes a tough prof..lectures areok but labs are horrible......study like 6 hrs everyday, then u will be likely to get a B. dont let the picture fool u.. dont take her
Terriable teacher cant stay awake in her class barley passed DO NOT TAKE go to Moorpark or if Ogar is teaching take him otherwise do not take any PIERCE professors!!!!!!!!!!!
stay away if you value ur grade
She's not easy, but she's very helpful. I had her for chem 101 lab in the winter. Whenever you need help she'll answer your question. She's nice, but she's pretty picky on lab reports and your lab notebook. She pays close attention to details, but that helped me because I knew nothing about lab when I started and now I feel very confident.
She is a nice lady but a horrible teacher.Whatever she goes over in lecture for sure is not going to be on the test.
Look,If your here looking for an Easy chemistry teacher u wont find 1!!!! Chemistry is not Music People, there is no such thing as an easy A here. I myself am an A student but got a B here, and deserved it too despite all the talking i did trying to get her to give me an A. She is not a bad teacher, she just teaches a hard subject. give it a break!
Prof. Bakshandeh is avery nice person, but should find another career. I am an A student and am not shy of working hard at school. If you choose to take her as your Chem 101 teacher, prepare to teach yourself out of the text book, which is also useless. If you can't take 101 with Soloff or Ogar, take this course at another school.
I had her for lab. She is very hard on grading, but is very helpful. If you want to learn chemistry and you can get over her slight accent, this is the teacher for you. Tough but fair. If you want an EASY A this is not for you.
worst chem teacher u could ever have.DO NOT TAKE HER
Had her for lab 101. Professor Bakshandeh is great and a good person who does care about her students. I had no problems with her, she is a little picky on the lab reports though. I would recommend her. She needs some of that colored chaulk like Dr. Goodman!
She was the worst chem teacher ever. I dropped her class in the middle of the semester, cause she does not teach anything. In her class the book is the teacher not her. The tests are hard.
you dont learn anything in her class. DONT take her chem 101 class ;take ogar.
Bakshande is a very nice lady and always willing to help you.She is just not the best chem teacher on campus. What she teaches compare to what u are being tested on is just not fair

Ms. Bakshandeh is a hard professor but fair. Those who critisize tend to be the one's that want to skate by to get into med school. I'm a doctor now and I have to say that I don't want an idiot being my doctor... so if you think she's too tough or not fair you might want to change majors
She is the best Chemistry teacher ever, because of her I changed my major to BioChem.. She pushes you hard to be the best. I took her for Chem 60 and now currently in Chem 101. She is not easy you MUST be dedicated. If you love science and are willing to learn and study she is a awesome teacher!!! She is very helpful and passionate about Chemistry!
This woman is extremely nice and helpful. The class is difficult because Chemisty is difficult in general. One definately learns a lot from her, but her tests are a little tricky.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR IF YOU WANT TO GET AN A!!!! JEEEZE!!
Run as fast as you can she will ruin your GPA for you.By all means avoid her class or you'll regret it. She hardly even speaks English.
she is not good at all. she is hard and she is trying to be harder and harder,
she is crazy. Her grading is so funny. she just won't give you your desired grade. she is alway laughing on you
The awfulest instructor I ever had.Very hard, not helpful, ungratful and ****.She is good only for persians. In other words highly not recomended just be away from this intructor guys.
I want to curse so badly!!! This teacher better learns English instead of teaching Chemistry.
Bakshande is a very nice lady and always willing to help you.She is just not the best chem teacher on campus..
I would recommend her.
Prof.Bakshandeh is a nice lady but it takes a bit more than being nice 2 teach college level chem. She lacks the ability 2 explain concepts, she often pauses 2 gather the words in her head (due2 language barrier)during lecs. Her lecs are primarily composed of her pointing the laser @the PPT slides. She uses the mastering-chem for HW instead of the txt
I had to drop this class with a W because I was so lost. Students were forced to be in class due to attendance requirements. No one wanted to be there, she lacks clarity and the ability to keep things interesting. Favors students of her ethnicity. I'm retaking chem101 because of her and I studied and did my HW for hours,it was only time consuming.
when I took this course with Bakshandeh, I was so depressed, because I putmy 110% effort into her class, but because she was a terrible teacher (reading off prepared power point slides) and not REALLY teaching this difficult class, I had to get a "W" on my transcript. Her devastating exams are her worst aspect. She will SURPRISE you with exams!!
My God! Shame on anyone who rates Bakshandeh poorly! She is the greatest. -.- <3 Only had lab with her but she is ULTRA nice and helpful. Have to give her an A+
she is the worst professor ever. does not teach well. and especially does not prepare her students for her absurdly difficult exams. these problems are not even found in the text. she only dresses well. everything else is horrible about this professor.
very hard class...if you want a or b dont take her class...
Pretentious, annoying students with no sense of humor, aggravatingly boring presentation of material, rude and uninteresting professor. i have never hated a class more than chem 101. maybe i'm too arrogant for it, but bakshandeh was an awful prof and i learned everything by myself. managed decent grades without her useless "help"
terrible !!!!!!!!don't take her class. too much work and tests are so hard.. I thought I could get an A because I did well on the test and I did all of HW..... but I got an B. I guess only few peoples got an A... 3 or 4?? anyway, if you want to get A... do not take her class!!!! seriously.....
She may dress with the finest silks of Milan and Paris but there is nothing but a toxic beast underneath. Extremely unstable in the mind. Sets precedent for Dementors. If you are caught laughing she will take you to the dungeons and hang you from your thumbs
she is sweet and really wants to help students. she gives you the grade you deserve. o be honest her tests are really hard and there are many word problems. doing homework doesnt count for anything but practice.
please don't take her very hard 3 midterm and quiz once two weeks. test is hard and the quiz is hard either there is a lot of homework on online ...it's terrible
She is a very nice lady and will work with you and try to help you in even way she can but her test are HARD AS HELL. 4 exams plus the final. A lot of online homework that is no worth much. I would avoid if possible but if you have her try and build a relationship with her, she will help you out in the long run !
Bakshandeh isn't a mean person, but she crammed the last 4 chapters into the last month of class. Online homework takes 12 hours each, and are extra credit with the other Chem 101 prof. Workshops confusing. Test questions are a nightmare for anyone with dyslexia. Full time students avoid this professor. For Part time students only: 5-11 unit load.
She is extremely helpful and clear. I did not use the textbook and got an A. The homework given should be done;it is more important than anything in the class. Her tests, though, are extremely complicated and chaotic. All my mistakes were from misinterpreting questions. If you plan on taking more chemistry in the future, take her. Otherwise, don't.
Bakshandeh is a very nice person but a mediocre professor. Her lectures, while not useless, don't offer much insight to the topic. You must do quite a bit of self learning in this class and make sure you do all of the homework/workshops. Test questions can be confusing. I got an A in her class but I had to work hard for it.
Dr. Bakshandeh is my fav. chem teacher and a lovely person on the whole. The only thing she didn't get a 5 on from me was easiness but it's not all her fault. Chem. 101 is the hardest class I've ever had. She guided me through it and is very patient. She wants her students to succeed and I am disappointed that anyone would say she isn't helpful. I'd say take her if your not afraid of getting a "B" though, because the "A" is for few.
*A* is possible but ONLY IF you do master the subject.Do not take her if you have to work hard and spend lots of time to get A-you probabaly will not make it with her.Make sure you have AT LEAST 20 hours a weeks to study for this class. Her tests are fair:based on in-class and HW,so make sure you know how to solve every single problem before tests.
Her class was not as bad as people made it seem, however you do really need to study a lot. Tests and quizzes based off of her notes, book helps sometimes as well, and a little bit from mastering chemistry. MAstering chem is mainly more of practice. But overall not too bad of a professor. And she is sweet and cares for her students. She is helpful.
Her lectures are very boring and so literal. Doesn't really explain things because she thinks her students can find them out on their own. Tests are either super easy or absolutely impossible. The final is very hard. There are hardcore lab questions on there. She is also a hard grader of lab reports. I do not recommend her. Take Dr.Ogar instead.
I love this professor, loved the way she taught I learned so much from her I am ever so grateful to her. She is uber hard and her tests are ten times harder. But I LEARNED, not memorized.
This was not an easy class, but I learned a lot from her. It really helped strengthen my foundation in chemistry. She will go over problems in the workshop and email the answers if you ask for them. You need to study and do practice problems if you want to pass. Her accent will make her hard to understand at first but you'll get used to it quickly
Worst. professor. Ever. I had the worst time of my life just because of her. I regret taking her class so so much and I wish I knew she was so horrible before I took it. I hope she stops teaching for the sake of the students soon. I feel truly sorry for whoever planning to take her class. She does not even know what she teaches.
Do yourself a favor and DO NOT take her class. She doesn't know how to teach. Lectures are literal and don't explain anything. Tests are impossible. She thinks everyone should already master Chemistry in her class. Most of my class are C-D.
i had a 4.0 before taking this class. she is the absolute worst teacher i have ever encountered. most of the questions you get on her exam have nothing to do with the material from the book or her lectures. she has many spelling mistakes and she cannot properly verbalize herself during lecture. If you end up taking her just drop the class.
CHALLENGING COURSE. IT WILL RISK YOUR G.P.A. YOU ARE WARNED. STUDY HARD AND EXPECT TO FAIL. STUDY SMART AND HARD EXPECT TO FAIL LESS. FIND THE SECRET TO THE CHEMICAL UNIVERSE. YOU WILL GET AN A.
She will assign work without having taught you the subject. If you want to pass her class be prepared to teach yourself using the internet, classmates, and the book. She will assign work online and go over it the week after, after you have struggled and submitted. No extra credit or grading curves except for a C is 65%-79%.
Your whole grade is basically based on the 5 tests that will be taken throughout the semester. They would be easier if she would have worded them differently but she makes them way more complicated. She usually goes back and forth on her lectures which makes everything confusing! Do not take this professor!
Amazing teacher. People give her bad rating but I do not know why. Her tests are multiple choice and the labs are very easy if you just follow the instructions. If you takes notes and study reasonably as well as be nice to her then you can definitely get an A
Be prepared to read!
Test are tricky and doesn't really give any review for the test. All test are cumulative.
Her tests are mostly multiple choices about 25 problems; however they are tricky with horrific wording. Even if you read the book and study more than 30hrs, you might get a B. If you do the math, you can only make 2 mistakes in her test to get a low A. She expects her students to be ones who will take the MCAT, so be prepare for a painful semester
She is a really nice person, but a terrible teacher is really hard to understand her, test are supper difficult when you ask for help she would try help you but you will be more confuse them before like I said she is a really sweet and nice lady but a terrible professor
She is not very clear when explaining. Expect to eat, breath, and dream of chemistry in order to pass the class. Tests are challenging and does not "believe" in extra credit.
It's college chemistry, so naturally it is going to be difficult. However, she does not really explain things quite as well as I would have liked. She does try hard though. If a lot of people miss a question on an exam, she will make it out of 120 instead of out of 125 or something like that, but there is no curving otherwise. Do the chemworks!!
I'm am convinced this woman has no knowledge of chemistry passed 101, maybe even 60. Almost every problem she would do on the board during lecture or discussion she would do wrong. We would have to correct her. He tests are so hard, she would end up having to curve them. Made us type all of the labs. She just likes to waste your time.
Take this class if you enjoy being tested on material you will be "taught" in the following weeks. I studied for hours daily, paid for a tutor, went to the CAS multiple days/week, & as an A student was just so grateful for a C by the end. I told myself I could do it - the fact is her tests are nothing of what you have learned. WILL ruin your GPA.
Lectures are powerpoints & boring. U will easily find yourself lost. would be much helpful if she actually did examples. Sometimes it feels like u are better off studying alone at home .HW & quizzes are thru Mastering Chem. study EVERYTHING (old hw, quizzes, book chapter questions) to pass her tests.
Don't take this class, save yourself a semester of headache and wait for a better professor. This professor cannot teach properly, has an accent, does not explain concept fluidly, and tests are difficult. Her class is basically a self-study course, more than half the class drops before the semester is over. Character limit stops me fromlistingmore.
I really cannot believe i got an A. She is not an impossible to get an A from. You just need to work extra hard because her tests are very difficult!!! Tip on how to get an A: practice, practice, practice. I did all the problems after EACH chapter in the book. The final was easy. Hard work pays off!
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR!!! DONT TAKE HER!!!!! STAY AWAY!!!! She is a very nice person but it does not matter because you won't do well in the class. She wastes your time and babbles on wayyyy toooo much!!! I worked my butt off outside of class and still got a B! I regret taking her so much! Just save yourself the trouble and don't take her
Entirely unhelpful. You ask for clarification on a lab and she won't tell you. Then she'll downgrade you for doing it wrong. She is choosy with her grading- sometimes. She will never tell you which. Either way, it will result in bad test grades.
Never take this professor! She doesn't explain good, but requires to know everything! Not helpful in anything!
There are professors who want their students to all pass with A's and B's and there are professors who think that the best students should pass with C's--she is the latter. Her tests are horrible because she gives you 25+ questions and 50 minutes for it. No guides, no curve, no mercy, no help. AVOID
Do not TAKE this class if you are afraid of getting a W or Fail, She doesn't care . Even if you study you won't pass ,She doesn't curve any grades and she is difficult so do not risk your grade ...
Few years have passed since I took her 60 and 101 started knowing nothing, and thanks to her I excelled in every upper Chemistry class I took. It was very hard, especially the lab report, but if you put every effort and work hard, you'll do great. After I completed these classes, she referred a few students for me to tutor. I miss her!
One of the worst professor's I have ever had (I have my Biology B.S. from UCLA). Purpose was to retake this class to do better, but ended up doing about the same and worse with more effort put in. She doesn't give answers to Chemworks and when you email her to correct, she never does. She tries to be "nice" but is stubborn in her teaching methods.
OH MY GOD.. DO NOT TAKE HER.. you could go home and read the book on your own and it would be more understandable than her lectures. She does not know how to lecture, and confuses you most of the time. barley goes over the important subjects in a lesson and spends too much time on easy lessons. very very confusing. i regret taking her so much.
Dont take this Professor. She doesnt know how to teach. She only goes over the easy stuff and not the hard stuff. Her tests r kind of hard and the problems that she goes over during lectures r not at all the same or even similar to what is on the test. Her lectures r all PowerPoint and just reads from it. If you ask a question she wont answer.
Very nice teacher and explains material clearly. Her homework and class examples will actually be harder than the problems she will put on the test. I merely took this class because it is a prerequisite, I don't have a passion for chem but she made the class really interesting. Ask for help and she will respond. Overall very easy class.
I had taken this class Fall 2017 and I didn't like how we were using majority of workshop time to go over lectures. We were assigned chemwork problems for practice, which we rarely went over and she would never give us the answers; so even if we did the problems no one knew if they were doing it right.
Worst teacher ever! Yelled at me in class in front of my peers on the first day of class. Had very unorganized.
She is disorganized. During her lectures she goes way too fast and barely gives you anytime to write down notes. On the first day she barely went over the syllabus and we had to do a lot of lectures the first class. She does not prepare you well for quizzes and exams. My friend said she gave a pop quiz and he was sure he failed so he also dropped
Professor Bakshande is a great professor, but you need to study . Chemistry is an interesting subject if you understand it. You need study a lot and pay enough attention to her lectures, and you will be fine.
A kind Professor, but not an easy A class. She goes over lectures very fast and expect you to know your stuff, so better read your book before attending class. Highly recommend for you to Study on your own outside of class, and or go tutoring to pass the class. Know your formulas and conversion factors as she does not give all of it during exams.
I dont know how come she is teaching chem 101, even she shouldnt teach in pierce college, all i can say i took her cause I couldnt get another class, u take her unless u have no choice and can manage your study on ur own. Basically she even dont know the material, very confuse and too many off sessions, not available even in office Hrs. Dont take
I don't recommend this class if you lean more in the class. The lectures aren't the most useful to say the least and you have to study the book. So I don't recommend this class unless you have to. To her credit however, she is a very fair grader and the exams get easier over time.
The lectures were pointless and only tangentially related to the topics at hand on the test. She demonstrates an inability to effectively convey concepts that are critical to conceptual understanding. Self-studying and grinding masteringchemistry is the only way to ensure success in this class due to her pointless lectures. Also doesn't curve tests
Currently taking her class and wish I had dropped sooner. She uses workshops for more lectures instead of doing examples. Information is useless without application. Its absolutely ridiculous how much Ive spent time Ive had to spend outside of class figuring out questions. Please be warned. Its not an easy class unless you know your stuff.
DONT take her, she says she's here to help but judges you when you have simple questions, WILL MAKE YOU MEMORIZE EVERYTHING, the lectures are useless she goes too fast and skips over hard material but drags on easy material. Your book will be your best friend. Doesn't drop any tests, and uses discussion as more lecture. Shes nice but can't teach!
While very kind and willing to help, it seems the material and questions only lead on to more confusion. She seems to lack on demonstrating simpler concepts when it comes to Chemistry and overestimates the students. Homework (which is lot) is given for very little credit, no chance for extra credit and changes concepts last minute. Be weary.
Test questions are intentionally confusing. She gives almost no extra credit. Your grade is mostly determined by the test scores. She also is extremely unorganized. I definitely would no recommend. I studied for this class probably about 20 hours a week and was getting Cs and Ds on my tests because she makes them so hard and confusing. 0/10
Honestly a 2.4 is way too high for her. She doesn't know how to properly lecture, and during the lecture she decides to tell stories completely unrelated to class and then says that the class is short on time. Test question aren't fully covered in the lecture. She is the complete opposite of insightful, out right terrible.
Test questions have VERY little to do with her lectures. Goes completely off topic. You are way better off reading the book on your own time. She does not answer questions properly. Purposeful tricks you on test questions. HORRIBLE do NOT take over 5 week semester half the class dropped.
Taking this class will result in a low grade and no knowledge of chemistry. If you want to learn something take a different class.
Terrible experience. Never know what to expect on the tests, and it is impossible to prepare for them. Definitely the trickest exams for chem 101. Expect to fail and pray to pass.
Absolutely terrible lecture instructor. Learning in this class is completely up to you. Also good luck trying to learn anything useful. Lecture subjects, or the work given as practice is not on exams. All the good students I know barely passed her class. This class will almost certainly ruin your gpa and disappoint you. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
I usually like to give teachers the benefit of the doubt when reading their ratings on rate my professor, but listen to me and DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!!!! Her lectures are not helpful and she skips through important concepts without giving good examples. The work that she does give do not prepare you for any of the confusing questions on the test.
Took this class despite the ratings. She expects the students to have mastered the materials the next day. Professor is unorganized. Her lectures jumps from chapters ahead then goes back. If you're lucky enough, she will give two examples for that lesson. Otherwise, she will tell you to go over it at home. A trickster when it comes to exam.
Professor is very nice, but her exams are not. KNOW all formulas during exam. Lecture is very fast, so ONLY take notes of the stuff she actually WRITES on the board In front of the class. (Very useful during exams compared to PowerPoints she discusses in class. Will retake her only to improve grade, but wont recommend if you like easy A Class.
Three words: don't do it. Will randomly jump around with the lectures so you have no clue what she's even teaching. Leaves important information out of the slides posted on Canvas so there's almost no use for them. Her practice exams are nothing like the test. Just skip chemistry for a semester and wait for literally ANY other professor.
Dont waste your time. She purposefully made the exam hard and flat out said that she expected everyone to get a D. She relies on the ALEKS homework which isnt helpful and will not respond to your email. She always say use ALEKS and you will succeed, but you wont. One of the worst professors out there. Save your time and take someone else.
Despite her poor ratings, I wanted to give her a chance. However, the reviews are very much true. Most of her lectures consisted of her reading off lecture slides, most of the practice problems she assigns are in an expensive textbook, she is not engaging, she can't teach well, and prepare to learn from Aleks explanations. Do not take her course.
Relies on ALEKS hw a lot, she lectures incredibly fast and rarely writes examples on the board. Her tests are really hard and sometimes the questions are worded weird so its hard to understand. Only good thing is that she accepts late work without penalty.
thought I'd take her because it was the only chem class (now I know why). Will go through lectures extremely quick, never does examples, discussion is basically just sitting there for 3 hours doing ALEKS. ALEKS is also a pain since she teaches nothing so good luck trying to figure it out yourself. No reviews before tests. do not take this class!!!!
I tried to take this class for summer and I made a big mistake. I dropped the class within two days which shows what kind of teacher she is. She doesn't teach at all and all she does is read off the slides without showing examples. All she cares about is aleks. Trust me you do not want to take her.
Be prepared. Make sure you've mastered chem 60!! Professor relies on aleks, the work load is huge but in turn helps with understanding the material. Be ready to put in the work. Not an easy class. She is very approachable and sweet. She will try to help you at all cost!! Extremely helpful!
Do not take this class! The professor does not know how to teach, especially for a 5 week course. Be ready to learn everything on your own, she dos not tell you what is going to be on the exams. The grade is based mostly on Aleks so make sure you finish with 100%. I'd give her a 0/5 is this thing would let me!
Real score 0. I say non mandatory attendance because it's a waste of time to attend her lecture. She doesn't lecture well and gives way too much work. She's honestly quite rude, she dismisses students concerns and becomes extremely close-minded and defensive. She's not accommodating at all, takes forever to grade, and is a generally awful teacher.
Do yourself a favor and just DO NOT take her class. Ive had plenty of different Science teachers and she is the most unaccommodating professor I've ever had. I have never gotten a C in my life, but her class will be the first. All of our exam scores were very low and the highest grade in the class was very low as well... did she curve you ask? NOPE
everyone is right she is very heavy on aleks but honestly just keep your head down and youll pass youll have to work for it but you WILL pass. Her tests are kind of crazy so be prepared for that and honestly we did have to do one too many discussions. She TRIES and I appreciated that also kinda feisty. will square up.
she is horrible at explaining topics and gives way too much homework. Be prepared to read the textbook to understand what is going on in the class.
As someone who loves science and chemistry in general this class was really difficult and unreasonable. The homework was ridiculous and the grading was extremely harsh. She did not prepare you for her tests whatsoever. Be prepared to give up sleep and your mental health. Take the class at another school if you absolutely need it
Before you continue further. Yes these ratings are accurate. This professor was not helpful at all and threatened the students several times for expressing their concerns toward her. Don't even bother taking this professor at all, it is not worth it. You will never know your true grade and stress out the whole time. Studying will not save you.
She goes through the lecture & examples so fast, it's hard to even know if you have questions. She spends time giving great feedback on work, but takes so long doing so that it ends up not being helpful. Exams & quizzes are extremely stressful as there is not enough time to complete them. The 5-week version of this class is almost impossible.
taking this class during the summer was a mistake. spent all day every day studying. read the book before lecture. stay on top of everything or you will get lost very quickly. she is very sweet. stay on her good side and she will meet you halfway. the majority of the class just complained. if you don't wanna work for it this class is not for you.
Never take a class with her. She is the unprofessional professor I have ever had, and she does not know how to answer your questions. In her class, you waste your time and never realize your true grade.
Chemistry 101 is a difficult class, but Professor Bakshandeh made it unnecessarily difficult. I mean, the average scores for exams 1, 2 and 3 were 58%, 51%, and a whopping 37%. I didnt even know such low averages were possible. If you end up taking this class, be sure to ace ALEKS and your lab otherwise a passing grade will be difficult to get.
Very unhelpful, especially during times when it's been hard for a lot of students. Refuses to admit any mistakes or listen to your concerns. Doesn't do live lectures, but the lectures she uploads are slow, and barely cover the basics of the chapter, let alone how to do harder concepts and problems. Students had to work together to (barely) pass.
This professor is actually very sweet, but if you're rude to her, she has no problem throwin attitude right back. The workload in this class caused me SO. MUCH. STRESS. Be prepared to dedicate your life to completing ALEKS assignments. Doing well on ALEKS and lab will be your only saving grace to passing. Keep your head up.
LOOK FOR OTHER OPTIONS TRUST ME. She never taught anything in her pre-recorded lectures, and never explained very well when any of us students had questions. She never admitted to taking fault in some situations. Your grade greatly depends on the use of ALEKS and and your lab grade. Really think about taking a chemistry class with her.
She is a very bad professor. Don't take her class if you want to learn. She has poor communication skills and horrible attitudes toward students. Her tests don't match the lectures at all. She always puts a lot of pressure on students. Her class average is very low. Avoid Her!
She is kind and great at explaining, Chem101 is difficult. I recommend reading subjects before attending class and go to tutoring. She is approachable and tries to help at all costs, responds immediately and accepts late work. Be mastered chem60. ALEKS helps to understand the material. You should dedicate your life to studying. Reviews aren't true.
Professor Bakshandeh is an amazing professor. In order to do well in her Chem 101 class, it is key to have mastered basic topics from Chem 60. Be prepared to do a lot of Aleks assignments and don't leave it for the last minute. Always try to do it ahead of time trust me it's doable!! Dedicating your time to study ahead of time will save you!
Professor Bakhshandeh is the worst professor that I had. It doesnt matter if you are a good student or a bad student, she is not helpful at all. Just trust your knowledge, not her knowledge. Dont Waste Your Time.
WORST PROFESSOR I'VE HAD! Pierce College should be embarrassed to employ such a rude, dishonest, poor communicator, technological incompetent & horrible professor. All ALEKS based. No live lectures. Weekly discussion assignments you have to attend. She will lie and say something is extra credit, but will count it for an actual grade. DREADFUL!!
HORRIBLE LECTURE
AVOID HER IF YOU CAN! Her lectures are not helpful AT ALL, most of your learning relies on Aleks. There are only 2 tests, class average for the first was 61% and the second a 54%. Also gives timed quizzes weekly (1 minute per question); you have 3 attempts but Canvas will take your average score for all 3 attempts which can really lower your grade.
She manages to actually make concepts MORE difficult and confusing, not less. Her lectures are hours long, and her power points are all 150 - 200 slides. Her tests are brutal. On one test I got a 74, the highest grade was a 76, and the class average was a 46. I still got a C for the class. Her class was the last one open for a reason. Avoid.
She's not a good teacher. As someone who took her class. Online? Yeah, no thanks. Never again. I have so far learned nothing in her class. Her tests? Three of them. Two of the are each worth 10% of your grade and the final is 20%. My class average for the two tests was 40 to 50%. Test Heavy and she counts Aleks quiz on grades Beware.
Ew just seeing her name gives me flashbacks to how horrible her class is. She is way too old to still be teaching, and has a heavy accent that makes it difficult to understand what she's saying. Actually, there's no point in listening to what she's saying anyways because her lectures are absolutely useless. I'm convinced she enjoys ruining GPA's
Nice Professor, but no...just no.
Professor Bakshandeh fully prepares her students for Chem 102. Chem 101 is a rigorous course & students should understand the expectations are high. The professor is always available for office hours and will help you succeed granted that you work hard and do your part as a student. Read the book, submit Aleks on time, & finish all the Chem works.
Would not recommend her at all. So strict and her lectures are not understandable at all.
Chem 101 with Professor Bakshandeh is a challenging course, but engaging with the provided resources can lead to success. Lectures may be dry, but the textbook and unstuck study tools like quizzes and practice problems are helpful for exam prep. Attend office hours and stay focused for the best outcome.
Her being as nice as she is makes this that much more difficult to write. The biggest problem with Prof. Bakshandeh is her grading. Her average score for an exam is a fail, but she curves NOTHING. This makes it very difficult to get an A in the class if your exams (which are 70% of your grade) are not all high to mid B's to A's.
I enjoyed Prof. Bakshandeh in lab. Her instructions and expectations were clear. Although she can be long-winded (why some might not enjoy her lectures) she genuinely cares about her students and has a good sense of humor making the lab lively. An area for improvement: is time management, to avoid rushing experiments which can lead to accidents.
Aleks is great to try to learn (use explanation button if something is unclear). She's not a good professor honestly but if you can follow the lecture slides on your own time, do the practice questions on them, and do the practice exam she gives before each exam, you'll be okay. Others on this site are blowing it out of proportion slightly.
Horrible at time management, uses up an hour and a half of lab time talking about nothing useful, leaves no time to do the experiments, and then blames it on us. She'll make you feel dumb for asking questions, or she'll go on a 20 minute tangent and never answer the original question. Stay away if you can. She had my therapist working overtime.
She requires a textbook for the course but never uses it. You don't even need to pay attention during lecture because you honestly learn more reviewing the lecture slides by yourself. She also goes extremely fast so you can't even finish taking notes before she's onto the next slide. Attendance is mandatory and she keeps track if you're late.
Stay away If you can. I spent hours studying for this class and it was such a waste of my time since I still failed anyway. Ive always been relatively a good student and have never had to drop a class until this one. She actually can be humorous at times but doesn't make up for the tears I shed. If you haven't started studying yet your cooked.
THE hardest professor ever!! She reads off the slides during lectures and often makes mistakes within the calculations she presents which can be very confusing, does not drop the lowest exam grade, doesn't even offer extra credit, randomly picks on students during lectures, and assigns an insane amount of ALEKS homework with weird deadlines.
Horrible lectures, zero extra credit, no curves (the only thing that remotely resembles a curve is extending the percentage you need to get a C which is ridiculous) huge amounts of homework in aleks, you're better off studying by yourself during her lectures, exams not always resemble the past exam provided to study, DO NOT TAKE
DO NOT TAKE HER!!!!! if there are no other professors left please just wait until next semester or crash another class. Unforgiving curve. nonsensical slides. practice exams do not match actual exams in material nor difficulty.
Loads of homework, generally unhelpful lectures, merciless with grading, study guides that don't actually cover exam topics, callous "help" and targeted comments, often loses train of thought for minutes, and so on. Try to take anyone else, and if you must take THIS class, prepare to do everything by yourself.
She's a bad professor. Her lectures don't teach anything, other than a summary of what you read in the textbook. You can't miss class cause she cares so much about attendance. Half the class dropped before the 2nd midterm. She's nice when she wants to be; other than that, she can be rude when you decide to ask questions. Don't take her class.
