Very organized, writes all notes on the board. Tests seem like they come out of nowhere, but definitely read the book regardless of the notes.
Pretty good teacher.
Pretty easy professor, read the study guide assigned and you should do fine. Watch out for that final though. Oh and also, drops the lowest test score
You get used to accent very quickly; she uses the book and study guide a lot; she is available to meet outside of class; doesn't take attendance
Not great but not bad, read the book and you're alright.
She is very organized and knowledgeable. Has good notes.
BORING!!!!!
Class isn't too dificult. I rarely attended because her lectures are fairly lackluster. She is knowledgeable, and teaches the class well and organized for the most part.
Not too bad, she write EVERYTHING on the board. Tests and quizzes aren't too hard but a few questions on them don't makes sense, they are worded wrong and that pissed me off a lot!
all notes came from the text and followed it closely, and was pretty easy to understand
Lectures are pretty boring, but there is no attendance policy, homework is only 4% of your grade, and the tests are easy (if you do the reading) so there is little reason to go to class.
good clear teacher class is not overwhelming
good professor, accent is a little hard to understand at first but you get used to it fast, very friendly
If you took Hakes for Macro, she's a breeze compared to him. Do the Study Guide, and quizes and tests will be easy. She wants you to do well, and does her part; do yours and you'll do fine.
Great teacher. Straightforward testing. Do study guide and you will recognize 1/2 the test questions! She is a fun teacher, really cares about student's success.
She was fun but I thought that it was a little difficult. If you do the study guide and read the book (which is clearer than her notes sometimes) you will be fine.

She really isn't teaching. She does the examples from the book, in class - she doesn't bother to change the numbers; if you read the book before class, you wind up bored out of your mind. Her grammar could use some work.
she is a really good teacher..and the tests are just like the notes....go talk to her before the tests, shell tell you alot of info!-highly recommend for econ majors
Horrible! I don't know how anyone could like her or pretend that her tests are easy -- only one person got an A on the final, and they only barely got a 93%. Who wants to take a professor who immediately docks everyone 7%, by making a ridiculous test. She doesnt teach what she tests.
She is a good professor that is willing to find time to help out. She also takes time to answer and explain questions that were asked. The class was difficult but if you reed the book and do the problems it isn’t to bad.
makes it easy to understand
very helpful and always made sure that we understood what she was saying before she moved on. Made the best of the situation even though some of my class were real jerks and wouldn't stop talking through her lectures. I think there should be a rate my classmates site!!
It's supposed to be an easy intro class, but not as easy!!Read the book and take good notes!Multiple choice tests are pretty hard. But the class is helpful, good foundation for economic background. The teaching is kinda dry tho. She relies solely on the book, and if you read it, you get bored in class.
her lectures are straight out of the book which makes it boring, but she explains herself well and writes everything on the board. She always gives the opportunity to ask questions, wchih helps if you don't get something the first time.
She is a great teacher, lots of lectures and lots of notes, bring a big binder to hold them all. Very helpful, I heighly recommend going to class, she gives extra credit assignments during class sometimes
Writes everything on the board
really like her, explains well, do the study guide before tests, really nice and helpful.
So, everyone said she was a good prof. so I took her Business Statistics class! Yeah, as far as I'm concerned they're all wrong! She might be good at teaching Econ but NOT stats. And her accent drives me crazy! Plus the fact that she never stops talking. I'm going to avoid her forever!
She teaches striaght out of the text which is boring and if you don't understand her, you won't understand the text. Her accent and the way she pronounced some words got on my nerves quite a bit. She tells you pretty much what will be on the test, but if you don't study for hours on end you'll only do average.
Love Shahina. Writes everything on the board. The "learning by doing" is fantastic. I love the way she talks. You feel cultured after you take her class. Very entertaining - you don't want to miss class. She gives brownie points if you talk to her in her office.
She is very helpful and easy to understand if you pay attention. Loves to help. I can't ever tell if she is talking about a farm or a firm though. Otherwise she is very easy to understand. Great teacher.
Very helpful.
She's really nice. The book isn't necessary. As long as you go to class to take notes and get your learning by doing points you'll be fine. Just study notes for tests, they are relatively easy. Quizzes are pretty easy too.
Very easy class. She pretty much tells you everything that will be on the tests by what she writes on the board. Study notes and LBD before tests and its an easy A.
Explains well and writes everything on the board. Says everything that is on the tests. If you study you can get a good grade.
I am a student at the University of Iowa, but I took Micro with Amin over the summer. I really liked her and she is a great teacher. I learned so much from her and that is making my Macro class at Iowa this semester a breeze. I would definitely recommend taking a class with her!
Great professor! Don't even have to read the book because she gives such good lectures. Tests and quizes aren't very hard as long as you study your notes and pay attenention in class. She even plans tests around the days when she knows everyone will be partying! I recommend her!
She is an alright teacher. Lectures tend to be boring and tests are pretty hard. Do not buy the textbook, I have not used mine once this year. Overall, I think she was pretty good.
Professor Amin is great. The lectures are very informational so do not skip class if you must get the notes from someone else. Overall the tests can be difficult, but if you use the study guide and prepare for them they aren't too bad. Recommend this professor!!!
it was mandatory to go to class, but you better. It's hard to miss something in this class and get caught up. you also do learning by doings(in class homework) on average 1 time a week. Material is very boring, and Amin is tough to understand sometimes. Tests aren't bad, but aren't easy either. One good thing is she writes everything on the boar

She explains everything and writes EVERYTHING on the board, but dont miss class otherwise you will miss alot. There is ALOT of note taking, but it really helps with tests.
Writes everything you need on the board. Use the study guide because all quiz and some test questions come from it. If you show up and pay attention it shouldn't be too hard to get a B.
If you didn't do well in macro, micro is impossible. Grade is tests, quizes and learning by doing. Tests are hard, need to study the notes don't seem to help much
I really enjoyed her class. She cares about student learning and has a very sexy accent. Sometimes I think she makes up words but I'm too busy staring at her body anyway to care to listen. Good class if you can handle taking the effort to go and are good and multiple choice tests. She is a very predictable prof.
Very good teacher, writes everything you will ever need on the board, loves it if you get help during office hours, if you go to class and take good notes you will get a good grade
Very nice and helpful. I understand that the material is hard, but she is very approachable and will make sure people know how to do the problems. I took this class with another professor and did horrible, but did well with Amin. She cares about students and won't embarrass you when asking for help.
Intermediate Microeconomic Theory. Difficult class regardless of professor. Explains it fairly well but I did feel I had to figure out a bit on my own when I would sit down to study again. No problems with her accent (she is Indian). Tough course, good teacher.
Awesome teacher. IF you go to class, take good notes, and read the book you breeze through the tests. If you blow her off and don't do the work you will fail. Extremely helpful, answers questions, and will do everything she can to help you out. Take her, she's a great professor!
Intermediate Microeconomic Theory. She makes this class interesting. Provides many examples. Easy tests and quizzes if you study. Great Professor overall.
Very nice person. Cares a lot that we are learning and wants us to do well. Took a summer class for licensed teachers called Local Labor Markets. Very fun class, visited many local businesses. We only had a paper and presentation and that was what we were graded on. I would recommend.
Great class! 6 quizzes throughout the semester. Drops the lowest score. 3 tests, and a comp. final. All her tests come directly from the notes given in class. Writes everything on the board. Never lets you out of class early though.
Go to class and takes notes and you will be fine. Explains everything well, loves when you come to office hours. Wants to give A's to everyone. Three tests and a comprehensive final. Book is unnecessary if you understand the in class work.
Amin is fair, helpful, but stern. She is very nice if you don't screw around in class. Textbook is unnecessary if you go to class and take the notes. The study guide is highly recommended. She takes questions from it for the exams. Not a hard class to pass. She makes the best of a bad situation (the class).
Her tests are over her lectures. Reading the study guide for the class helps but is no substitute for attending class. Take great notes and tests should be easy. Lectures aren't earth shattering exciting but is a must to take them in. She has some extra credit. She WILL remember your name and face and is willing to help
Loved this class! Book is not needed for this class because tests are over her lectures. Going to class is necessary because all the notes are needed for good understanding. She was very helpful outside of class. Knowledge of algebra is needed. Grade is based on tests, quizzes and the cumulative final. Amin is a great professor!
I do not feel like she necessarily taught what was on the tests. The best way to put it is some questions were not directly from the class materials, they indirectly related to things learned in class and you had to know how to apply it to answer it. This was the hardest part of the class. It's like studying will only do so much for you for tests.
Test were harder than Macro in my opinion. McCormick pulls stuff directly from his notes and the study guide. Shahina has indirect questions and are a lot more difficult.
Amin is a good professor. She teaches the material well, and tests are not crazy hard. I didn't need to study and I got A's, but I did have to show up and pay attention in class. I won't look back on her as the best professor I ever had, but she is definitely a solid choice. Only problem was she never lets class out early.
She was a nice lady however, she moves very fast and is often times hard to understand. If she slowed down and spent more time explaining things I would have done better. Also, quizzes and tests are frequent and VERY hard. If you need more help with math or understanding economic ideas I would not take her.
Prof Amin is so sweet. She really cares about her students and will make sure you are doing well in class. Her lectures are long and very informational so if you miss a class you should get notes from someone else. Her quizzes are worth 6 pints and she'll drop your worst one. She gives you study guides for all the tests as well.
Amin is a good professor. The entire class is her lecturing while you take notes, but the notes you take are the majority of what you need to know. The class comes with a study guide so I would recommend using it. She keeps the class decently interested, and if you sit close and participate, she bumps up your final grade at the end of the semester
I had professor Amin for both mirco and macro and I absolutely loved her! They are hard classes but she explains the content very well and I was able to come out with an A. She is great at answering questions and will help you a bunch during her office hours. I would definitely recommend her!
I took microeconomics with professor Amin. I find her lectures very boring. She lectures for the full class with no breaks and you must constantly take notes. I would not take her again but her teaching style is not what I like, many others like her though.
this class made me hate my life. Honestly tried to understand the materials. But with all the materials introduced in her lectures it was like a reese's monkey slamming the cylindrical peg into the square hole. It often made little to no sense, even when I paid attention.
Her class is very lecture heavy. Every class consists of her going off of a power point. She can be very difficult to understand. I highly recommend taking with a different professor.
Class was all lectures and tests. If you don't mind that, it's not a bad class. Show up, take good notes, you'll be fine.
Prof. Amin is very caring and encouraging toward her students. Make sure you go to class as all the material you need to know she writes on the board. I recommend buying the MindTap for the study guide. She often takes questions from there and off the study guide she hands out. Tests and quizzes aren't bad if you study.
Be ready to take notes!
Ive had 4 classes with Amin: 1041,1051,2112, & 3217. All of her classes are roughly the same, quizzes (super short, 5 questions), exams and a few assignments which she tells you exactly how to do. Her exams usually incorporate questions directly from her quizzes and those from her notes. You dont need the book- just take good notes!
Professor Amin is very caring! She loves teaching and enjoys interacting with students. With that being said her economics courses are all very similar- 6 quizes 4 tests (lowest quiz score dropped). She is very lecture heavy- so missing class is not a good idea. However, she tries to offer a few extra credit opportunities.
Shahina is a fantastic woman. The class in general is just very difficult. It can be very hard to understand some of the topics she goes over. She wants everyone to do well and is willing to talk and help outside of class.
Amin is a good teacher, and very kind and helpful. Intermediate Micro is just a super hard class. Amin says its the hardest class in the Business School. Shes a good teacher but you need to put in a ton of hours on your own to do well.
Micro is very hard but Amin was a pretty good professor. The class is all quizzes and exams and not very many points total. She goes very quick in class and can be hard to understand sometimes. She grades very quick and is organized which helps. She does want her students to succeed though and going to her office hours she was very nice.
Doesnt take into account mental health what so ever. Attendance policy for quizzes doesnt help when youre a full time student and work. Were all anxious was my favorite quote from this semester when trying to get accommodations for my mental health.
shes aggressive and dominant character. She keeps telling why economics major is great. Would not take it again!
I took macroeconomics with her. This teacher does not care about you. She does not answer her emails whatsoever. For the entire hour and 15 minutes, you are taking notes. All you do is take notes in her weird way of wording stuff. She shoves so much content into each class, I can hardly keep up. She is rude and not understanding at all.
Dr. Amin is a nice person but is really dry in class and not personable. Every class is note-taking from the time you sit down to the time you leave. The entire class is graded on your quiz and exam scores (which are not easy), so if you mess up once, expect to have to fight for the rest of the semester to get a good grade.
Lots of people complain about Dr. Amin. They say she is the worst professor at UNI. From my perspective, they should be complaining about the CONTENT, not the professor. Yes, she lectures the whole hour and 15 minutes, which is not ideal. However, her quizzes and tests are straightforward. I plan on taking her again next semester for micro.
Where do I start? Shahina gives great lectures and explains things well, but the organization of the class gives little room for improving your grade. Its based on 4 exams and like 6 quizzes. Keep in mind these quizzes and exams awk very hard questions. Only take this class if you can devote lots of time to practice questions and are good at tests
I hate this class so much. I have never struggled with school but I almost failed this class. All the class is is lecture and note taking THE ENTIRE time all semester. I have accommodations through SAS and she refused to follow them because she doesnt believe mental health affects school performance. I did better when I started self teaching.
She is awesome if you go to class and put in the work to understand her lectures and the material. One of the best professors I have had at UNI. Everything on her exams is directly from her notes, so all it takes is attendance, writing notes, and studying hard.
She just has you copy her taking notes all semester. She doesnt even explain the content. Also get ready to write fast because she doesnt wait up. Hard to understand because of her accent too.
This professor is brutal! Many of the quizzes that we have after each chapter are very difficult, some questions on the chapter we did not learn about! There are only 3 or 4 tests so if you do not do good on the tests you will be in trouble. She is also sometimes difficult to understand and does not communicate well outside of class.
Not a bad professor at all. The lectures are good with the material. Class is fairly difficult but study and you'll be fine.
Amin's class is one of the more boring classes I have taken. She is a kind person who seems to care about teaching, but she often just lectures for the entire class in a monotone voice. There are a few tests and quizzes that are a bit difficult, but her discussion classes are easy to gain points in. She's average overall.
Professor Amin is a great professor. She does lecture for the entire hour and fifteen minutes which can make class dry and boring. She posts practice problems for each chapter and uses some of the same questions on quizzes and exams. 3 exams, 8 quizzes (one is dropped), two discussions, a short paper, and there's no cumulative final.
Only puts quizzes and exams in the gradebook which is unfortunate. Overall, she makes the content easy to learn and gives multiple examples in class so that everybody understands. Attendance is taken only on quiz and exam days. Quizzes are open note
Not a hard class as a business major, if you are teaching find an econ/bus major to help out. 8 quizzes, 4 exams non-cumulative, always gets back to my emails, super nice and does a lot of practice questions in class. PAY ATTENTION and TAKE NOTES to succeed. Group discussions and project are annoying but do-able.
This professor is very lecture heavy. Be ready to take lots of notes. Quizzes are open note, but tests are not. Content is hard but can be understood with lots of study hours outside of class. She can be funny if you listen to her during lectures as it is dry humor. Notes are posted, but going to class is more valuable.
Very lecture Hevy. And pushes for handwritten notes. Same everyday sit down she lectures and we do nothing besides take notes. Very easy to space off. Is very good with open office hours though. Nice lady but not the most interesting class.
The class is fairly difficult, but engaging with the lectures and using resources like unstuck ai for study prep can really help. The professor's teaching style is specific, but worth the effort if you stay focused.
Amin knows her field well and you can tell, but when speaking with her I often got the vibe of her feeling much higher and superior than her students. As if she wouldn't speak to me on a person-to-person level. She can be nice at times, but it is rare as she prefers to stick with being strict. I withdrew from this class bc of a major switch.
Overall wasn't a horrible professor but the class was so boring. She also was rude and passive-aggressive when having to take an test at a later time. Has a bad attitude.
She does have an accent, but it's not bad at all. She knows the material very well and is honestly really good at teaching it, lots of quizzes and test, but the online textbook is super helpful with studying with the resources in it, she makes good practice quizzes/test on her own as well. only reason it's not a 5 is because she is quite stern.
