Shawn was great. He was very personable and tried to make the class helpful and interesting. Compared to what I have heard about other sections of Math 108, I would highly recommend Shawn. Great if you want to take algos later on.
Nice guy, but really gives it to you up the butt on the last half of the class.

Dr Parvini is a nice guy.He knows alot about math ,and he teachs very clear and neat.If you just participate his class on time and regular ,you are fine at the end.
Great Prof. He is very clear and really gives a S*** about students... However not for the light hearted his class is very hard, he doesn't take it easy on the exams.
Gives tests stright from the book. Final is example problems from book. Tests have six to ten questions on them and are simple. Best math teacher at Mesa College
Very goor Prof. Calc-II is very difficult. Students who winged their way through Calc-I fell like leaves. If you are weak in M150 you cannot pass calc-II. Blame yourself for your failure not the teacher. End-of-chapter exams + formula sheet makes his grading fair. He works a lot of exercises and explains the concepts much better than the book.Best.
He explains very clearly but unfortunately not his note. He likes to do things quickly. However, he is still a very good professor. He will answer your question if you have one, and he is very patient. Open to new ideas and try to make the class less intense which is impossible in math151. Do try the hw if u want to pass!
He teaches very fast and hard to keep up with...you have to review things on your own every night because he will not go back and cover them for you before tests. Grades very hard. Does not get class involved or let them do problems and work them out in class...he just teaches, you take notes and thats it
Don't listen to previous poster who actually failed the class or withdrew. Excellent teacher. Students with weak bkgnd dropped. Only quality students stay; Almost all of the ones who stayed got A and B's. A sheet of formulas is very generous. Don't listen to the failures who slipped through the cracks and should have been sifted in earlier classes.
I had him for Stats and it was by far the hardest class. He would have stuff on the test he never taught us and his idea of offices hours is ten minutes in between classes. He teaches fast and there are 4 exams with no hw or quizzes to help your grade. He is a nice man but not a very good professor. Best of luck to whoever takes him.
Good class. 4 exams. Exams are much easier than the book exercises even examples! A lot of whiners in the class who always complaint. They didn't even know what an average was and expected to pass with a 'B'. You know how that goes. Stats is very difficult, but the prof. makes it a lot easier. Very knowledgable. Highly recommend him.
He is a very nice guy & very intelligent! Take him if u get a chance, especially if u don't like math :) There are about 7 tests & if u like your grade @ the end u don't need to take the final. You are allowed 3 absences and on the 4th he will drop you.
difficult subject, but he helps you understand; he will explain it 10 different ways until you get it. does examples in class, but get the book & practice @home. if you have problems, go to him b4 class w/ specific questions & he will have you cleared up by class time. soft voice, sit near the front. make sure to practice at home and youll be fine!
He is very helpful and caring. Knows his material.
Took stats with him back in summer '04. I think a significant portion of the class dropped. Doing the non-mandatory HW would have helped a lot. Didn't help that there was a really hot chick sitting next to me. Overall, he makes a hateful subject managable. Now I'm a stats major...go figure.
stats is hard but he trys to make you understand it. go to class especially before the test because he gives GREAT examples. hint hint the ones that will be on the test. do well during the semester because the final will make you want to cry. overall it was a good class
I like him. He does not give you a pass grade but he does whatever he can for you to earn it.
One of the fairest teachers you can find. Exams are from the exercises. Lectures are awesome. He doesnot use notes, it is all in his brilliant mind. Do the homework and you will ace the course. Monkey around and he will get rid of you, that simple!
I thought this class was going to be good, considering he doesn't grade homework. but i would have rather him collect something, that way i would have understood the material better. He has four test compiling 84% of your grade which is ridiculous and he talks so quietly the drone of the computers in the math lab drown him out. Don't take!!
The best stas teacher for a hateful subject. He is AMAZINGLY smart. His credentials are flawless and he is cool. His genuine interest in student success is evident. 3 exams, but they are right from the lectures. Great personality too.
Statistics is a VERY hard subject to try and pass without effort. It can be very boring and very hard if you aren't looking at it the way it is meant to be looked at. This professor will make it incredibly simply to get a B and a relatively easy A if you're willing to put in a little study time for the exams. Show up and you're in business.
He teaches one thing and test on something else. He says that the test is on homework problem but he gives you problems from homework that your supposed to work on! So his tests are hard
He is a very good teacher. Home work is optional so grade is based on test scores. He stops after expaining and answers any questions. Very nice guy, makes it easy to learn. The day before test are complete review. Also, on test he grades you work not just answers so you get points just for trying.
don't ever take class with the **** he can't teach. he lectures on one thing and then put something hard on the test. i would not recommend this guy. plus he can't explain things good. so don't take him.
I'm no a math fan, but Professor Parvini is a great teacher. His tests aren't easy, but his study guides help. DEFINITELY take his stats class, he LOVES stats and works hard to teach it. Great guy too.
he's the hardest teacher in mesa college campus!! there are about 15 tests in this class and they are really hard. it's a challenge to pass this class. don't take him really hard. other than that he's a nice guy but he teaches one thing and then he puts something totally different on the test.
He is something else you can not drop a single test there is no extra credit and your grade is based on the tests. so study your ass off because you will have to teach yourself because his lectures are million miles an hour with skiping steps NOT FUN. He very good at showing that he knows math but teaching is another story
Hes an overall cool teacher, but hes very old school with his teaching methods. No cheat sheets, no notes on tests, no calculator. You have to really love math to get an A in his class...
Take this class only if you already know pre-calc. Thats the only way you will pass. If your not the greatest test taker, your screwed. 5 test, and thats your grade, no drops for anything. No review in class before the test, no formula sheet for tests... nothing. Not a good teacher!
Very cool guy. His lecture is very clear; and he will teach until you understand it. However, his test is somewhat hard. It's pretty easy for me (except the Trig chapter) but I always make some mistake and lose points. You have to study if you want to ACE the test. Very cool and interesting guy. Will take him for CAL
Nice guy, definately goes by the book. I enjoy math but his tests were challenging! First 3 fair, 4th test on Trig everyone pretty much failed. Which, I think says there needs to be a fix. Grades solely on tests. If you're not diciplined to do homework and study EVERYTHING... he's not a good teacher to take. But the guy is nice.
There are two 'Parvini' ratings! Read the ratings under another channel. In short, he is fair and very knowledgable. Most of the students in the class were lazy and didn't do the work. He drops the lowest exam, homework and gives lots of extra credit. If you still can't pass you are a moron! Don't take if you just want to be lazy with a 'C'.
Take him for the online stats, definitely. He is AMAZING! I took stats 3 times before and dropped it. Not this time though cuz the Dr was in the house. Goooooo Dr. Your loss if you don't take him. He knows his stats inside and out, better than the book's author! 10-4
Terrible. His voice is way too quiet, you can't even hear him and the new Math XL program he uses has too many more glitches than uses.
I hate math but basically he wants you to pass. His tests are extremely hard but it is possible to pass. I don't see why the person below me is complaining about math xl. It's the easiest homework ever and it is extremely useful. It actually prepares you for the tests.
Not recommend him at all. He needs to improve his teaching. He should test student what he is teaching in class and homework, not something else.
the class has been a joy. Great environment to learn!!
Outstanding instructor. He lets you go online to finish the course and exams are fair. Subject sucks, but Dr. Parvini rules. Intelligent man. Take him and you will be glad you did.
Mr. Parvini is such a great teacher, No one ever thinks Calculus is fun, but Parvini knows what he's doing! You must do 2 things to succeed in his class 1. ATTEND 2. DO THE HW. a lot of the test questions come straight from examples done in class and/or the HW. GREAT GUY OVERALL!!
I took 5 weeks online course in Summer. Easy tests - straight from the homework. 3 exams + on site final. Homework every week, but not much and easy. It will definitely help for the test. He doesn't know this Subject that much in depth, but good communication thru the course. Overall - Good teacher.
Nice professor. Explains very clearly and he is very helpful. However, he does not takes crashers, nor give extra credit, just four exams.
Dr. Parvini has intimate knowledge of the subject and a clear mastery of statistics. He makes a bitter subject, sweet. Thank you Dr. P ;-)
Definitely take him for PreCalulus. He reviews all the algebra and trigonometry you need! Drops two lowest exams and hwk is extra credit. Very riendly and doesn't make you feel stupid for asking questions. Don't miss out!
Easy A! 6 exams (drops 2 lowest). Homework 10% of grade (optional). Each exam has 10 points extra credit. Lets you bring a sheet of formulas. Attendance is not mandatory. Clear explanation and lots of review of basic algebra and trigonometry. Don't miss out because he usually does not teach precalculus. Secure your A/B now. You heard it here first!
i took him over the summer and honestly all i can say is that he is a great guy as well as a teacher. i kind of miss having him. my current math teacher is rude and obnoxious. parvini is helpful, kind, patient and straightforward with exams. he's also very forgiving with your answer on exams. with my current teacher he takes points off for everything
Statistics isn't fun. I dropped the class last spring but I took his online course and it was a breeze. I highly recommend it! There are tutorials that will walk you through any exercise or test question you don't understand. Take his class online and you can easily get an A with minimal effort, just do the exercises. Thanks Dr Parvini!
Java: Good teacher. The Camry of college professors. Lectures are good but mostly from the book. Same with the tests and programs. I like my professors to be a bit eccentric but Parvini is just a normal guy.
grades are based strictly on tests. no homeworks,no quizes, and nothing is dropped. tests are pretty difficult but he is an easy grader and gives good partial credit compared to many other math professors ive had.
Pretty nice guy. Online course was simple. Homework due and short test to take. One thing was the due dates were almost always on the same day and time except here and there they would randomly change and I'd miss it so this really damaged my grade and be careful in how you enter our answers. But if you pay close attention you'll be fine.
He is a great teacher. He explain the problems very well. The only thing that is difficult about this class is that your grade is base on your exams. Their is no extra credit whatsoever. Overall, he is hard to me but i do recommend him if you guys like a challenging teacher.
Great guy, has a real passion for teaching. Had him during summer, he is fast yet he is easy to keep up with. Speaks alittle quietly so I recommend sitting in the front row! (your grade will improve) Overall A++++++
Not very good at explaining things at all. He would just skip the method of solving problems and go straight to the answer. Avoid him if you want to learn from your professor.
Amazing teacher, he encouraged students and made sure we felt comfortable with the material. If you are someone who hates math or thinks this course will be impossible to pass..it's not! There is no assigned hw, but it really helps on the test if you do all the problems. Buy a TI-84 and you will be fine. Prof. Parvini is the best math teacher ever!
Professor Parvini is top-notch. I haven't taken a Math class for 7 years and still passed his class with an A. He was always there to help, and he explains the problems in easy to understand terms. I would definitely suggest being prepared for his tests because they are the whole grade. He does tell you prior what sections of the hw are on the test
BEST teacher I have EVER had! Math used to confuse the heck out of me but he makes it SOO clear! He has no problem going out of his way to help you better understand the subject! He hands out a study guide of what the test will be on 1-2 weeks in advance so that you can be prepared..DEFINITLY recommend his class to EVERYONE!!!
Made math really difficult. Went super fast and skipped over parts of problems he was doing on the board. Expected a lot on the tests which is what grades are based on. Partial credit was a joke.
Parvini turned out to be a major disappointment. He lead the class to believe his exams were like the example problem done in class, however his exam problems are NOTHING like any of the in-class examples or homework problems. Most of the class is failing, not a surprise. I had an A in 150 with an excellent professor and am struggling to pass 151.
Parvini used to be an easy, good professor but he changed a lot recently and has become really hard and unfair the class average on the first two tests was a low F and half the class has already dropped
Does not drop any testes, does not give any homework for the students to improve their grades. He is a hard grader and I do not recommend taking this teacher!
This is my third year in a row in his math class, I started with 95, 96 and now Stats. I like his online teaching style, and the tools he gives us as students and resources. Definitely recommend if you are able to teach yourself and then on on campus to take the finals. Open book
PArvini's tests are butt hard. Always uses the hardest questions from the homework assigned. Literally teaches straight from the book word for word. To do well, Do all the EVEN problems in the book and go over the ones he does in class. If it takes more than 15 minutes to do, that will be on the test. VERY HARD TEACHER
I gave this class the best effort I could while carrying 13 units, and got a mid B at the end of the semester. That means about 5 hours of studying / week. I'm typically an A student. So anyways, that should give you the ballpark of the difficulty. The first test is killer, and the average grade should be around C or D. He weeds out weaker students
Parvini is excellent at making you understand why and how. Very helpful and respectful. However, there is no homework. So you need to be serious about math, if you want to pass. 6 Exams and a final, no drops. Must show work. Copy all his examples on the board and STUDY STUDY STUDY STUDY STUDY STUDY!!!!!
Prof. Parvini is a great person and a great teacher. The only issues that I have are 1) He's monotone so he never really emphasizes what is important. 2) His tests dont look like his examples. 3) He'll occasionally skip steps in his examples and if youre unfamiliar with the material you dont catch it. He's a cool person though. Needs work teaching.
He's nice, helpful & cares how students do. Q's on tests are harder than the hw & examples in class. He doesn't drop any tests. If you miss 1 for a good reason he'll sub the grade you get on the final for it, but won't if you took all tests & did bad on 1. Doesn't make sense - he rewards for missing but punishes for trying.
with no DOUBT, Parvini is the best math professor one can ever had, EXTREMELY HELPFUL AND STRAIGHT FORWARD.math is not an easy concept and it needs comprehension. His tests are fairly easy only if you try the textbook problems. He gives you many extra credits on his tests and if you do good on your exams, you dont have to take final"WHICH IS AWESOME
A MUST TAKE MATH INSTRUCTOR. HE IS TOO EASY TO FOLLOW AND VERY HELPFUL AND NICE. YOU ARE NOT GONNA REGRET TAKING HIM AT ALLLLLL !!!!!!
AWFUL!! He is very hard. The tests are sooooo much harder than what he goes over in class and what is in the homework!! If this is your only class you can do fine but if not then take someone else!! I have ALWAYS gotten A's in math and I had to withdraw from this class :/
If you pay attention in class and do all the homeworks the exams shouldn't be that hard for you. The difficulty of his exams is very reasonable. It's math, it's supposed to be hard but he explains things very clearly. Professor Parvini is a great teacher,he's fair in grading and he's helpful.
Speaks kinda soft but Very Elaborate. Do the problems he hands out. He only mentions it 100X times
Very tough teacher. Went from a B from the previous math class to having to withdraw. Overall grade is made up of all the exams. Exams are much harder than expected and doesn't really teach or explain besides doing problem after problem on the board. I recommend taking another teacher.
Online course. Very difficult grading structure and must be a motivated learner to obtain an A. Even with a low A going into the final exam, it took an A on the final to also get an A in the course. Straight book learning, but teacher very responsive to correcting simple student mistakes if not exploitative. Good for credit, not for GPA.
The best math teacher i have ever had! Goes over only the exact problems on the test!
He does teach straight out of the book, and the problems on the exams are based off the book. He doesn't give much opportunity to raise your grade because he doesn't assign homework or any extra credit opportunities, so the grade is based solely on exams. Try to pass, because he let us keep our grade and skip the final! And he's SUPER nice.
One of the few great Math teachers at Mesa. He explains everything extremely well. Does not give a lot of homework, plus he doesn't check it. People are complaining on here that he only grades tests, but I personally prefer that. Just study and you'll do well. Tests are multiple choice and the final is not mandatory if you are happy with your grade
I was in the same Calculus class the disgruntled student was in (M252). Most of the students who came to class ended up receiving high grades. Only those slackers received sub-par. The teacher is amazing, he does excellent job of breaking down complex concepts in layman's terms and is extremely courteous. Only rude students.
funny, understanding teacher whose exams are completely multiple choice with no required homework! hands down one of my favorite teachers of all time
This professor seemed really helpful at first, but after we received our first couple test scores, we found out how tough he really was. Calc 2 is hard, but the way this teacher grades is absurd. If u forget a minus sign, prepare to get a 2/10 for that question. My class started with 60 people and by the last day to drop, there were only 12 left.
This is a professor so removed from the student learning process, that minor mistakes on exams to him equals inadequacy. Concise lectures, but straight from the book. Helps if you seek him for questions. Tough doesn't explain it, if you have something to prove in mathematics, Parvini is it, otherwise stay away, or gl plugging away 5+ hrs daily!
He is one of the best math teachers I EVER had in my life. I usually suck at math but he teaches in a way that is beyond understandable. He is extremely fair and caring. He cares about how you do in the class. I really recommend him!
Had Parvini for Calculus 1-3. Grade is determined by 6 tests. Tests are difficult, got a low B on my first one. Since then I started studying diligently and received A+ on all my tests. If you pay attention during class and make sure to do ALL the homework (HW isn't graded) you will do fine. Great professor, best in his field. Really knows math.
Professor Parvini is the best math teacher I have ever had. I am terrible at math, it's a wonder I ever got this far. That being said, I currently have an A in this class. He actually teaches you how to do the problems. The grade is based on tests, the tests come from the book. Go to class, do the homework, and you're golden. Highly recommended.
I have no complaints about Parvini. He's straight forward, he tells you what's going to be on the test; it's always problems similar to the homework. Do the homework and you'll get an A.
Great professor, very helpful, very nice. No homework but he gives you assignments that actually help you to practice for quizes so you will use your book.
He writes the homework problems on the board as examples and does not explain them well.
Professor Parvini is a great teacher. He is patient and helpful. Do the homework and you will pass no problem. The exams are in the textbook and its your choice to take the final. Best math professor ever. I have him for math 96-can't wait!!
I had math 151,Calculus II with Prof.Parvini. He is one of the best professor I have ever had class. He explains every material clearly and he gives good example in the class. keep in mind that after each class spend few hours practicing the new material and solve the problems.
you are stupid if you dont take him, easy A if you study. easy multiple choice tests , it just easy , he make stuff easy. ask him any stupid question he will answer them patiently. easy easy A
I was intimidated with the idea of an online math class, but Parvini made the experience better than I could have hoped for. I was nervous about no lectures, but the format was doable and I felt that I actually learned. This style isn't for everyone but it was a no nonsense course.
I took Statistics twice before and failed.I took an Honors Statistics by Professor Parvini in Spring. Hands down, he is one of the most knowledgeable instructors in this field. He never uses the book and knows all the formulas conceptually and symbolically; it is just amazing to see him whip through the subject like it is Algebra I.
I have taken several Calculus courses and this was my lowest scoring. Our class started with 40+ and finished with about 15 passing grades. The exams were extremely difficult and complex. He really knows his stuff, is a very nice and approachable teacher, and is willing to help. Would recommend taking it with someone else though
Online courses are a bit challenging because you're basically on your own. But, Parvini was really helpful! I asked him so many questions and he always replied. If this course is review for you than it will be semi easy if you do the homework and make notes of the homework questions and refer back to them on the tests!
Such an amazing professor. Very helpful. Do the homework and you'll do good on the tests.
calcIhe knows his stuff but he doesnt give you any points for homework, no pretest, no quizes and wont help you with questions you may have;he tells you to go to the tutoring center but if you have to work then it doesn't make sence to go to the tutoring center and wait half hour per question. test are hard. if ur not 100% on old math you wont pass
Professor Parvini is AWESOME! I took him for 2 diff math courses and got B's in both. Homework isn't mandatory but highly recommended to practice for the exams. I had to get tutored a few times through out the course in the ASC for clarification. He is a nice professor and enjoys teaching, which is a breath of fresh air in college.
I had Professor Parvini for both Math 96 and 119. He grades SOLELY based on test scores, so it is very important that you DO THE HOMEWORK. He gave three exams and will replace your lowest test score with your final exam test score if it is higher. Definitely not easy by any means, but if you put the work in, you will come out okay.
All tests, hw, and book is online. He is a super nice guy and really understanding. It is really easy to do the hw because the program gives you multiple attempts. The part that makes it honors is a group project. with a portfolio that contains answers to questions about a data set in the book and a presentation is just talking about the portfolio.
Parvini isn't a bad instructor, but I think his way of grading needs improvement. He assigns homework, but he doesn't collect/grade it. At first I thought that was good, but then that means your entire grade is based solely on tests. There's no leverage whatsoever. Oh and be sure to sit up front because he will NOT speak up! Good luck!
He's an ok instructor but I think his way of grading needs improvement. He assigns homework, but he doesn't collect/grade it. At first I thought that was good, but that means your entire grade is based solely on tests, so do well. Oh and be sure to sit up front because he speaks softly. Good luck!
Mr. Parvini was very soft spoken. He teaches with no hand-holding and expects you to do daily homework and be engaged in the material. Grade is based solely on exams. However, he does explain well and give good examples.
I had Profesor Parvini for both MATH 46 and 96. Like everyone else said, your grade is based solely off tests. In 96, he will switch out your lowest test score with your final exam score if it is higher. The material is tough and he doesn't collect the homework, but that just means you have to discipline yourself to study! Def not easy but doable.
He is a very good professor, very knowledgeable, and willing to help you if you ask. He explains everything very well and is very fair on his grades. I recommend him if you want to take an honors class, its not too hard. You can get an A, easy A.
He is the nicest teacher I've ever had. Very helpful and clear. Homeworks and exams are all online so they're open note! You can easily get an A if you rock the final in-class final!
He was one of the best professor I ever have had.
Parvini is amazing but if you want an easy grade look elsewhere.
This class was very difficult. I was afraid I wouldn't pass. The online homework is very difficult and we flew through the chapters extremely fast. Parvini is an excellent instructor, though, and very thorough. He made the extremely difficult material easier to manage. Tests are all multiple choice. Final was optional for those with high grades.
His lectures are super confusing and he expects you to know EVERYTHING from prior math classes. Grade is only based on 4 or 5 tests which are all difficult. Its a fast paced class and you can not fall behind. I would not recommend this class.
Professor Shahrokh Parvini really allows each student to apply themselves. I took this course over the summer of 2012 and he was a great professor. He allowed the students that had a HIGH A to choose if they want to take the final or not as if wouldnt affect their grade. Great professor wanting every student to succeed.
Take this class, good professor. Make sure you do homework, study for tests and be careful who you pick for the group project. excellent teacher take him
This man is the BEST math professor in the universe!!! He is by far the best college professor I've had. He makes you work for it and I like that. Yet, he looks after his students like no other. He's realistic and expect you to be the same, but wants his students to succeed and reward their effort. Very inspirational and positive! Take him!!!
he is good teacher. ready to explain everything that u want to know . very nice. if u want to take Math class, he is a good choice
Lectures the entire two hours out of the book, allowing no breaks. His tests are way harder than the material covered in class. 4 exams. Started with 50 kids ended with 14, only 2 passed. No exaggeration, good luck!
Hard tests with a lot of expectations coming into class. Take another prof if you can.
He lectured in class & our homeworktests were done Statcrunch. Material was difficult, yet our homework was based according to lecture that same day; Responds to emails within a good time frame. He assumes one remembers how to do basic math. No one dropped this class, we all liked him. He's the statistician for the county, you can trust him.
Dr. Parvini gave a pretty straight-forward class. There was 4 tests and a final and he's fairly lenient on grading. The only reason I didn't give a higher rating on helpfulness was due to his lack of office hours because he was too busy.
AMAZING
Class was straight forward. Homework is 10% of your grade so if you blow it off you won't get an A. Drops your lowest test score and if you have an A you don't have to take the final. He's very passionate about the subject and gives 10 min. breaks between sections. Has a sense of humor and genuinely cares about every student. Would take again
Parvini deserves an award! He gives good background of EVERY concept (not too much, not too little) and tells you what to know. There's no way you can't understand what's going on unless you sucked at PreCalculus. The tests are very fair, they test knowledge on CALCULUS. Again, if it's hard for you, you got lucky in passing PreCalculus.
I really enjoyed his class. He was one of the best professors I currently have and would take him again if he teach in future maths! fingers crossed!!!.... He didn't use the book, we all used Math Lab... He is just the best ever....
DO NOT TAKE. He is not all that he is made up to be. Assigns a lot of homework but doesn't collect it. No mathlab. GRADE IS SOLELY BASED ON 5 TESTS... difficult tests... More than half the class including me dropped him. Goes at a fast pace, not good at explaining and rare office hours. The lectures just drags on and on. DO NOT TAKE.
do the homework over and over and over again, the tests are almost identical to it. there are a few extra questions here and there or rewording, but over all, do the hw many times and you'll get a B for sure if not an A. funny guy, would take again, stats is not too hard if you take my advice. everything done over mymathlab and using statcrunch
go to class and take notes. Homework is base on the lectures 6-12 short exercises per week. For tests just redo the homework many times until you memorized the procedure. It may be 1 question in the exam that was not in the homework but is something he explained in class. Overall, Tests are 90% the homework but with different numbers. Take him
If you're a high school student, don't want to use your brain, or not willing to put effort, don't take this class. Otherwise, best Professor! Class isn't memorization, it's more of problem solving (memorizing Math isnt really the way to go!)
Professor Parvini was not helpful at all during the semester. He doesn't have lectures and expects you to teach yourself. Class was an easy A though, one homework assignment a week was a breeze. The tests included questions that were not related to the homework assignment. I would not take him again.
Seeing the previous review encouraged me to make this one. In an online class we're expected to do the effort. I loved the layout of his class and got an A because I put EFFORT. Great professor for those with maturity and discipline. Professor emails were helpful and quick!
Great guy and very knowledgable. Haters gonna hate!
Homework is due the day of exams. Homework AND exams are on mymathlab. Lectures are more based off the book rather than mymathlab homework but there's clear explanation of how to use StatCrunch on MML. He's very laid back. Ask questions when you need extra explaination or anything because it's easy to fall behind in this class!!!
I don't usually do these but I figure I would have appreciated it if I saw this message during the summer when I picked him. I hate math. If you're reading this as a fellow math hater trust me take him! Do the homework again and again! This is crucial if you take him Statcrunch is your baby. Love it, learn it and give it constant attention.
the class is fairly easy as long as you show up and do the homework you'll be fine. Prof. Parvini is great. he's very kind and accommodating. you don't have to take the final if you have an A. I'm not a math person and he main this class pretty painless.
Parvini is not a difficult professor, he's good at what he does. He is just extremely apathetic and not accommodating what so ever to any special circumstances. If you have a full time career and are trying to manage school do not take his class. He is almost too candid and even disrespectful at times when you want to speak with him. Frustrating
The last review was some guy that got mad about not being able to use his computer in class (Parvini said we aren't allowed to use electronics in class in the first day!). He seems very nice and is very easy/clear to follow. If you show him respect, he will give you respect. Best professor so far that I've taken.
I'm currently in his Precalculus course... Parvini IS AMAZING. He teaches clearly and does not rush through material (he actually does homework problems with us if we ask). There are no surprises on the exams, either. They are short, simple, and exactly like the homework. Easy A and you LEARN!
Proffessor Parvini is awesome, I took him over the summer. There was online homework & 5 tests, if you get a good grade on the final your lowest test score will be replaced. He is very knowledgeable & you can tell this is what he's passionate about. If you do what is expected of you, you will get an A. He's actually pretty funny too.
Great professor! Took him for statistics, and he explains the material in a way that is easy to understand. He really cares about his students, and is easy to talk to outside of class if you need help. If you go to lectures and DO THE HOMEWORK, you will do fine on exams. Highly recommend Dr. Parvini, regardless of whether you like math or not.
Grade is based solely off of 6 tests. He also hikes up his pants so everyone can stare at his junk. His tests were hard & by the time we took the test, we were already in the middle of the next ch. No real review b4 the test. He doesn't care if you learn or understand & it shows. Lazy professor! Used only the book examples & didn't explain much.
He make the class easy. The hw is online, 4 to 12 questions each, due test day. Tests only on 2-3 chapters, non accumulative midterms and finals. Lets you use formula sheet and statcrunch program on tests so very little memorizing formulas and doing problems by hand. Was always at office hours and willing to help! HIGHLY RECOMMEND HIM FOR STATS!
I will admit, Calculus is never easy regardless of the professor, but this professor really made it a rough semester for everyone. The grade is only based on tests, and the tests are 10x harder than what you learn in class. No study guides, no review, no nothing. He's a ridiculously hard grader. Tests are half way during the next chapter, no break.
Professor Parvenu is BY FAR the sweetest and best teacher around! In this class we used "Stat Crunch" which helped out tremendously! . you get instant grades the second you finish your test! HE WILL REPLACE YOUR LOWEST GRADE WITH YOUR FINAL GRADE AND KEEP IT AS AN INDIVIDUAL GRADE ITSELF TOO! Would one billion percent take his class again!
Amazing teacher! I highly recommend him to everyone. You have to put to work in it and he will appreciate that. Very inspirational and positive! He love what he does and cares for others to be successful. I would take all the math classes with him if I could! 5stars plus more.
He is a great professor for stats and any lower division math class but when it comes to calc, he makes it almost impossible to pass the class. More than half of the class dropped the class and no one got an A in his class. That's when you know something is wrong with the way he presents and assesses students...
Prof. Parvini was a blast to have for Calculus I. He made class fun, and although a tough topic, he presented the material in multiple different ways to ensure his students understood the topics. I truly believe he set me up for success in my Calculus II/III classes I took following his class. His tests reflect homework or lecture topics.
Online stats course during intersession (4 weeks), def recommend taking him as he answered my questions fast and with links when I couldn't figure out something. Easy A if you do the hwk and do it in an organized manner that you can easily follow during the exams as they are v similar to the hwk problems.
This class was one of the most challenging and discouraging classes I have ever taken. I can tell Parvini is a good person but when it comes to teaching nothing will ever prepare you for the tests. I went to tutors nonstop and they couldn't figure out some of the answers to my problems. I tried until the very end but its almost impossible to pass.
I really love how Professor Parvini teaches. He is very clear, and the exams are just like the homework. It is hard to fail this class; if you struggle, you may need to take this class another time when you can put more effort.
Super easy going professor. Exam questions are VERY VERY similar to homework questions. He responds fairly quick to emails. He reviews exams for partial credit if mymathlab marks questions incorrect bc of it being picky. Do the homework, take notes, you'll pass EASY. lol, you're not a kid anymore due dates are a real thing so stay on track!
Easy A/B class. Unlimited attempts on homework, noncumulative tests, open book tests. Test questions are the easiest problems from the chapter. If you want an A screenshot all study plan chapter questions and the steps will all be identical.
This was the most discouraging class I ever taken. He is a cool guy but doesnt prepare you for tests. He rushes the material before most of us can even grasp it. No homework at all and study guides. Just a recommended list of problems to go over in the textbook. What I find funny is that only 1/4 of students stay at the end. Most dropped out.
I have always had difficulty with math. Professor Parvini led clear discussions, and helped me grasp concepts that I have always had trouble with. It was a great experience and I was happy to have taken the course.
He establishes what the class will be about including the rules. The test is every 2-3 chapters. The homework is exactly like the test, but with different numbers. The homework is due the same day as the tests. He's willing to help you and makes sure that everyone understands it. He gives textbook problems to help with the homework. Take the class!
Parvini is my favorite math professor, I took his online class(love it) and now taking another in class. Explains material very clear, if you was in class after lecture you no need to read a book. Few homework for every chapters, don't understand material? Ask him, he care about every student! About 4 exams per semester.
He is honestly the worst teacher I have ever had . Your grade is based off of 5 test. He does not give extra assignments to help your grade. He lectures the whole class without giving students an opportunity to ask important questions without getting mad. I do not recommend this class !
Unlimited chances on online HW so you get 100% every time. Basically extra points to balance out exam scores. 4 exams including final (not cumulative). Score on final replaces lowest exam score. Great lecturer, organized. Have a question about the HW? Hell walk you through it in class and you can follow along. Super nice guy. Take him!
Limited homework that is relevant to the chapter tests. Goes through a version of the test, he just changes the numbers and layout, but helps tremendously. If you have an A come time for the final, you don't have to take it. I failed this class and with him passed with an A.
Wants you to understand the material. Homework due the day of the test, if you do it, the test is easy. Only numbers are different. Drops the lowest test score at the end of semester. 3 absences and you're out. Let's you use statcrunch which basically counts everything for you. Just learn to use it properly and you'll breeze through the class.
GREAT math professor, explains equations excellently and when you don't understand the concept he goes out of his way to teach it to you. Tests are based off homework so if you do your work you should pass the class in a breeze. Tests are worth 100 points each, even the final, so if you mess up it won't hurt your grade too badly. Great professor!
I loved professor Parvini's honors stats class! He is really friendly and caring towards his students if they put in the time for the class. The class can be time consuming but that is expected for an honors class (which is why there is more work and standards). If you really want to learn stats I recommend this class with professor Parvini.
He's an amazing prof! Honestly, as long as you put in the work, it's an easy A or B for his class. The exams are somewhat similar to the hw problems, so you'll be prepared for the exams if you do them. Grades as based on exams only so that could be a downfall for some ppl. Otherwise, he's a great professor and I highly recommend to take his class!
He is a good professor. knowledgeable professor and explains clearly, his lecture is clear. do your assignments on time
Statistics isnt an easy class. I suggest taking it with Professor Parvini if needed. All around, great Professor. Replied to multiple emails within a few hours. Most online professors take forever to reply, not this one. This is a rather hard class but still managed to pass. I would take this class again without a doubt!
The syllabus is straightforward and everything you have to do is laid out for you there. He answers emails pretty fast. The HW: unlimited tries till the due date, which you WILL need. Tests are just like the HW, which is sweet. Use and abuse your StatCrunch. Tutorials would have been nice, but if you dedicate some time to testing it, you'll be OK.
Professor Parvini is a really nice guy and he always asks if anyone has questions BUT his class is ONLY a lecture, no in class work at all or participation which means you better study hard because your grade is only based off of the tests you take.
I'm really bad at math and I managed to get an A in Dr. Parvini's class. I took the blended intersession (4-week) class and everything was done through StatCrunch, but you have multiple attempts on the homework! He seems to really care about his students and was always there if you needed help.
I am not great at math but this professor will try to bring out the best in you so you can grasp the concepts and lay the foundation to build up your math skills. I was so intimidated at the start of the class as it had been over 16yrs since my last math class. He responded to all emails, guided me to find tutoring & was very encouraging. AWESOME!
He was one of the worst teachers I have EVER had. I took the stats class online because that was the only way I could complete the course because COVID-19 shut down most colleges. Every question I asked him he wouldn't answer, instead he would refer me to the text or his lecture videos, which ran on average 5 hours per chapter, and hard to follow.
Professor Parvini, is really strict with due dates. He WON'T have any make ups or anything like that, so you have to turn everything on time. He is really clear on the homework. He uses online homework which is pretty easy and you can try as many times are you want until you get it right on the question. Homework is pretty much the same as quizzes
Most hw & exam questions can be done w/ StatCrunch. Most of the exam is the same as the hw but it is all explained in the lectures. If you email him, he will review your answers on the exam & give credit if your answer was rounded close to the right answer. He'll drop the lowest exam score if your final exam is higher. He rounded up the final grade
He is a great professor, the class is based on HW and exams (very similar to HW) but does not give any extra credit. Will drop lowest exam grade and round up if you are close to another letter grade. Lecture is long and can be confusing but he is accessible outside of class.
Calculus is a hard class but he makes it manageable. His class is based only on exams and a final. He does not give any extra credit. He does drop the lowest exam score and will round up if you are close to another letter grade. The class is very lecture based so don't get behind! Email him with any questions you have because he actually responds.
The online version of this class is pretty easy as long as you do the homework. The tests is pretty much exactly the same as the homework and is essentially a longer version of it. There is a semester-long group project if your taking the honors version of the course and groups are random. The professor is cool and has office hours by appointment.
I was so nervous because I thought it was going to be difficult to take math online. IT WAS NOT. Every 2 week you have lecture videos and homework to complete. The tests have a few chapters but only have about 15 questions so be careful because missing one can lower your grade. His test questions are from the homework. 10/10 recommend!!
Not too much work for a summer course, coursework is clear and professor allows several days to complete exams. Highly recommend.
Professor Parvini is one of the sweetest and most patient professors I've had. Attendance was not mandatory but it's best if you show up because he goes over heavy material. The exams are fully based on the homework. He is always willing to help and reviews the homework before each exam. I would 100% recommend Mr.Parvini, he is very knowledgable!
Professor Parvini was amazing! His exams were based off the homework assignments, and he does not rush his lectures. He is a very friendly and caring professor and wants everyone to do well in his class. I definitely recommend him if you need an easy breeze class.
Dr. Parvini is clearly a seasoned prof. He does not use PowerPoints or written lecture notes, it is all in his head. Lectures are crystal clear and he explains topics much better than the book. His section fills fast, so get in quickly.
I am still in this course and expects to get a 'B'. Loves math and it shows. So far he has allowed us to retake all our exams; shows he cares. Calculus 2 is not easy course, but he tries. He is calm and focused on the task. Much more knowledgeable than my Calculus 1 instructor. Definitely recommend him for Calculus 2.
Super nice guy, graded only by 6 difficult exams (can retake for half points lost) including the final. Would recommend glancing over the chapters before attending lecture.
Textbook is dull and uninteresting, never had to interact with other students. Quizzes are tolerable, they're all from the homework so pull that up as reference. Due dates are clearly set and you have lots of time to work, but there's no extra credit so make sure you get it right. This class isn't fun but I got through it.
Do NOT take! His Calc I & II class avg was in the 40s every exam! No required hw or attendance. He zooms through the course and exams are nothing like the hw/class problems. The class is exam heavy and no EC. He allows exam redo for 50% lost points (to boost the avg), but won't make the exam any easier. He loves trig, so forces it everywhere.
Prof. Parvini is very kind and wants to make sure you understand the content but you must be willing to ask for help. Hw/exams are due within about 2 weeks so you can do the work at your own pace which is helpful. I was a full-time student and this class was very doable just stay on top the lecture vids bc they're lengthy. Only graded by exam/hw.
Notes for ch. 6 and beyond were...idk but I could barely read them. Uses Pearson for tests, hw, etc. Very easy to pass with As (even 100s) if u just use the help that Pearson gives u. Tests are almost exactly the same as the homework problems, which makes the tests easy As if you just pay attention. Keeps you up to date w announcements. Nice!
he is just perfect
Class was super easy. I took the 8 week class. As long as you stay on top of your work you will be good
I love his online statistics course. He won't be lenient on assignments since he gives such a large window but unless you slack off you can easily get them done. The hw is Pearson and it's 3 ch. each month then the exam which is exactly like the hw. The online lectures explain how to do everything and he uses Statcrunch which makes it much easier.
Amazing class! First math class since AP Calculus BC. 4 exams, 1 Final exam. Will replace the lowest final exam score. Is willing to go over every problem you want, even some Calc 1 & 2 stuff that I didn't know like trig sub. Amazing personality and overall a very fun class to be in. Material is very, very challenging tho! Especially Ch 14.
Had to W this class. Exams are very difficult and time consuming. Only grade is on exams and only replaces exam not drops it. Class was very hard would not recommend. He was kind though but the exams were very difficult
He is extremely popular. Don't listen to negative posts. Why else his classes close so quickly if he was not so good? Exams are like hwk. The material is difficult, not the prof. Grade is on exams only but he replaces the low exam score with final. He treats every one with tremendous respect. His insanely patient. Take him (if you can get in!)
The online stats course is entirely through Pearson. Professor Parvini gave us a month to complete 3 homework assignments and an exam so he does not provide extensions. The exams are exactly the homework questions just different numbers. The final is not cumulative and replaces the lowest exam score if it helps. Statcrunch is your baby so use it.
This class was VERY HARD. This class grade was based on 5 tests only. No quizzes, no hw, ONLY TESTS. This class was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. Professor teaches directly out of the book and is very hard to follow along during class. Would not recommend!
Its understandable that this course overall is difficult, but this professor was extremely difficult. You are only only graded on exams and final. The exam questions are much more difficult than the suggested homework problems. He's very nice and respectable but his class was too much. I stayed up almost all night studying just to be left confused.
I never came to class bc I was sick a lot, but I still got an A. He is not easy but he grades fair. As long as you do the homework/cover the main points you should be fine. I bombed my first test, but got an A on all my others. He also sends an email out before tests saying what is on it. He is very chill just prepare to put in effort.
I took Math 119 online over the summer. Professor Parvini was always accessible via email and via canvas. He truly cares about his students. Get familiar with Pearson because the textbook + Homework + exams are all through Pearson. I wrote down every homework answer and how I got to the answer and it helped me for the exams!
Great teacher for Calc 1. Just study homework and you will be good for the exams. He doesn't micromanage you with quizzes and activities so even if you are busy you can do well.
Left his class wanting to learn more math. He explains complicated concepts clearly and in a fun, engaging way. He wants you to pass - anyone who fails his class was clearly not trying or paying attention. Show up and listen to get an A.
Makes it clear from the start that he will give no extra credit, your grade is based on 6 exams. The homework is not required but are essential if you want to pass. He goes through units relatively quickly and IMO doesn't really explain the topics/theorems well. HW vs. exams problems are so vastly different I lowkey felt there was no point studying
Organized, professional, and passionate. Always reiterated expectations for exams. Not having extra work made it easy for those of us who work and couldn't make it every class.
parvini was the best professor I have had thus far in my college career. math 252 was hard for me since im not rly a math person but he kept it manageable by going at a good pace and setting clear expectations for exams.
Very outgoing professor. His class was very easy to get through and not stressful at all like other math courses. Would definitely recommend taking his class.
chill guy. okay hw (lot of calculating), tests just like hw (no cumulative final!). Couldn't/ didn't sit thru hour-long lectures (he sniffles a lot) but skimmed thru bc he shows how to use statcrunch (Excel but 4 stats). Write down homework problems/answers + what to click in statcrunch b4 exams. Did hw + test in 1 day every time and ended w an A
Prof. Parvini is kind, respectful, and a good calculus teacher. I took calc I with him and I learned a ton. However, your grade is solely based on 6 tests. The tests can be kinda tricky, but luckily he gives you outlines for them. Hw isn't assigned but necessary if you want to do well on the test. Tough but doable and very rewarding in the end.
Professor Shahrokn Parvini is outstanding! He is quick to respond to questions and his lectures on using StatCrunch are very helpful. While the course isn't an easy A, his guidance will help you succeed. Watch his lectures, and you'll do well.
Best math professor I've had. Want to do well? read book before class, go to office hours and ask a ton of questions, do all hw and practice practice practice! He really cares and sees the effort you put in:) Last 2 chapters are the most difficult overall, so get ready to study a tonnnn
based on 6 tests, no HW assignments, very respectful BUT if your math teachers in high school didn't care to teach/you didn't learn anything, you are screwed in this class. super super challenging and u have to devote all ur time for this class if u want a good grade (if ur not naturally smart)
Really tough grader, his lectures are all over the place.
Graded on few things. Tests are a huge part of your grade. If you take this class DONT fall behind on work and be consistent with homework actives and review your notes. Quizzes are not open note you are only provided with the equations. Overall he was a cool teacher.
Nice professor and reasonable expectations. The exams get harder as you progress through the course but he curves everything in the end.
Professor Parvini is wonderful! His lectures are amazing and he is willing to answer and go through any question you may have. I enjoyed this course and struggled with it until my career path changed and I made the decision to drop the course as I relieved myself of a stress. The class is difficult but he is the best professor to take!
I quite literally only watched an hour of lectures tops from all the available lectures and got a high grade. If you understand the homework, you will get a high grade on the tests. There are 3 tests and 1 final, and if you receive a higher grade on the final than one of the tests the final will replace the test grade. He is generous with grading
He explained the material in a fine way during lectures but when I asked for help after struggling on tests unlike what we had learned, I was rudely told I must be studying wrong. I was spending 4+ hours a day on work and had a tutor. He only grades on tests. Unless you've taken calc already and have a perfect understanding, don't take his class.
Professor Parvini is inspirational! I struggle with math, but if you do the work and find support it's no issue. He grades out of activities, 3 exams, and a final. For Elem. Stats, the final isn't cumulative. Overall, deserves the respect.
Professor Parvini is an outstanding math professor! I was initially scared about taking statistics online, but he was always there to help. He genuinely cares about his students' success and is a true gem. He will always be one of my favorite professors at Mesa.
There's 4 main tests and weekly homework for the chapters he covers. As long as you watch the lecture videos on how to use StatCrunch for the homework, you will easily pass the class. The test questions are the exact same as the homework as well, so it's light work tbh (Pearson literally helps you with the solutions). Easy A if you put in the time.
I love prof parvini and recommend him even if you arent good at math! The only thing graded are exams and as long as you do good on the first few you dont really have to study near the end for the final. the TA is also really good and helps clarify a lot of things the prof does in class. the both of them are really nice people
Retook this class with the same prof, first time I failed because I didn't put much effort, but second time I did and passed with a B. caring prof, highly encourages students to ask questions, only grades by exams which are 6 exams in total. if you do and understand the HW, then you will pass the exams. exams are similar to HW questions.
He is a great lecturer, but has the capacity to be disrespectful to students saying things like you better know your trig/precalc.
I took this class fully online. A good amount of work, so do little by little. No overall final, just exams relating to the chapters. 2 honors opportunity. Posts video lessons. I've never met him in person, but based on emails and videos, he is a very calm, easy-going and passionate proffessor. Math 119 online isn't that bad.
Dr Parvini is the nicest man ever. Invests in his students and is always willing to work with you if you don't understand something. Drops your lowest exam with your final exam grade. Such a sweet soul.
Honestly, he was fine. Lecture heavy but nice guy. We didnt study as much in the end but still got decent grades since he curves if the class doesnt do well
Probably the smartest professor in the math department (he also has a phd apparently) and polite. Really shows in the way he presents the material and does problems. Would take again, just wish he had more office hours.
Prof parvini was great but the real MVP was dan the TA. Sometimes he had shorter ways of solving exercises, and he was much more knowledgable than the stem center tutors. He solves every problem and would warn us which ones were crazy and wouldnt be on the test
Excellent Professor and TA. They truly care about the class and make difficult math intuitive. Very smart people.
One of the best courses I've taken at Mesa. We had 2 professors! Prof Parvini gives lectures and outside class we had a Discord where Prof Dan helped us do problems if we got stuck. I enrolled in the class expecting misery, but when I turned in my final exam, I realized how much I would miss the class. Really felt like a community in there.
Condescending personality and makes you feel bad if you don't study. You can tell he doesn't care and is just here for a paycheck. Never felt more belittled by a teacher. Gives more points to students he likes in the class on exams, especially the ones who speak his other language.
Grade is dependent on exams thats it. No other way to get free points like in other classes. Hard to prepare for an exam when all he says go to office hours and tutoring. And then his teacher assistant tells you to do 100 problems to practice for exam!
Super cool teacher! Easy to manage work with his class schedule since its just exams. Later in the semester we got a TA and he was EXTREMELY helpful and had an interesting style of teaching. He would do hw in office hours and if we were comfortable he would give harder problems to do so that the exam problems would be easier.
Professor parvini is calm and doesnt rush the material since hes drinking tea all the time lecturing. We asked him questions and if we needed help outside class we would see professor dan in his office hours to do more hw and talk about life. Enjoyed the atmospheres they gave us.
Our class had good structure. Professor Parvini solved homework questions during lectures and Assistant Dan would do even more questions in his office hours, he helped us solve all the problems and I kept a notebook with my solutions. Each week I reported to him in the library for his inspection of my work. I recommend both of them.
provides lots of examples and dumbs himself down to answer every question asked in class in a very understandable way. tests are easy if you pay attention and participate in disc especially when he does reviews
Professor Parvini was great! He has good lecture notes and a good handle over the subject. Our course helper was a math prodigy who carried our class in discord and the library. I think he did more problems than anyone in the class, including the professor. They really care about their students.
Cool online class, and the youtube lectures were really helpful, and always answered my emails on a regular basis!
She would have the students who understood it explain it to the others in group work 90% of class time. Lectures were useless if you have trouble understanding accents.
He is a really good professor and doesn't assign any homework, just 6 exams and 3 hour lectures. His lectures are very informative but you will have to teach yourself the material to keep up with the pace of the class. He doesn't drop any exams. If you are a fast learner and don't mind doing a lot of your own learning, This class is perfect.
Kind. Accomadating
I had professor parvini and dan for calc 3. The class is a lot of work but it is doable. They tell you what will or wont be on exams and give you plenty of formula sheets. Im not math person but im sad its over because it really felt like they cared about us.
Dr. Parvini is an excellent professor. His lectures are clear, exams are fair, and he tells you exactly what will be on them. He drops one exam and replaces it with the final. His YouTube lectures are very helpful. He's approachable and great if you truly want to understand statistics.
