awesome teacher. tests/quizzes are at home. shes very flexible and understanding. takes random attendance, but overall she was great!
Great teacher, super easy. Lots of extra credit and she's not very strict on deadlines for assignments. She'll adjust your grade at the end if you're close to the nect letter grade based on participation on hw, ec, etc.
Easy class. Blackboard Quizzes and Exams, both are online and open book. Online interactivity tool is used, Aplia, also provides ebook. (Spr 2010). A lot of work but keep up with it and it is easy, Most hw's you can re-correct your answers. Professor also did Quick Quizzes, used as an attendance grade. They are short and easy. Attractive Professor.
Did not explain material well. Use of Aplia was lazy; the online material didn't match up with the textbook. She gives extra credit as otherwise at least half the class would be failing due to her poor teaching. Canceled class at the last minute on multiple occasions and is generally unprofessional. A real waste of tuition if you want to learn.
Extremely hot for a teacher. She's is easygoing and very understandable. Very approachable if you need help. She will reopen homework assignments online if something went wrong. Midterm and Final were not super easy but pretty easy if you do the aplia assignments. Final online, offer's extra credit also. Again, she's hot.
What she explains in class has nothing to do with her exams and hw! Test and homework are online APLIA..didn't like her class doesn't explain the material so you don't learn anything!
She is NOT great. Didnt understand her that great. Was failing the whole semester because she does not make sense. Passed all my other classes with A's but hers. She needs to retake a teaching class. NOT Recommended
Ok first and foremost, Professor Johnson is smokin! And now to the class comments, she is very helpful in class! All the tests are online, which means take home, but that also means they are harder, just go to class everyday, ask questions, study powerpoints that she posts on BB, and you will ACE it!!
she is extremely helpful. all her tests are online, even the final. 25% of her grading based on attending class and group work. 20% for aplia assignment. tests are 15% each and final is 10%. she always gives extra credits. one thing i don't like it is she teaches too fast and sometimes you don't understand what she talks about. easy a if you study.
Most attractive teacher i have ever had. I didn't know it was legal to have such a pretty teacher
What she talks about in class does not help you on the tests whats so ever. I also did not like that everything was online. I would take someone else.
Well. Her class is really easy. Just go to class... You will get a 25 points. Online tests are easy. Do homework. Her class is basically based on participation. I would take her again if I can. I love her class
Attendance isn't mandatory but she gives a ton of EC during class, so GO. Tests are so so, do the assignments on Aplia and you should be ok.
Requires online book -Aplia registration online $90. No physical textbook needed. Do homework & attend class & you will pass even if you fail online tests. Tests are a little hard.Every class period she will take attendance by doing group problems & turning them in. Didn't like class but she is helpful & wants you to succeed. Would take her again.
Pretty average teacher. Can't say she was to hard and can't say she was that easy, if your looking for a specific class time and shes one of your options, I would say go for it.
Yeah, she's hot...that's it. The use of three different information platforms is total BS...BB, Aplia and classroom??? Then none of them correspond! So...what you end up with is peanut butter and NO JELLY!
She was never prepared, posted everything late, and talks so fast in case it is hard to keep. DO NOT TAKE.
Had her for Micro. Ehh, she's okay. She was pregnant this year so she always had an attitude. She's very sarcastic so it gets annoying. Aplia hw is due one a week all semester. Lots of group work, about 10 questions on each group quiz. Tests are online and pretty difficult only cause she gives tons of trick questions.
Worst professor I have EVER had. I honestly felt like UTSA selected a random person off the streets and appointed them a teaching position. If you have the opportunity to have a different professor for this subject I suggest you do.
OMG she is definitely the worse techer ever....i recommend nobody and i mean nobody take her class. She said we talk to much and all she gives is group assignments. If you are reading this GET OUT WHILE YOU CAN. i made a B in the class but you will hate life with this teacher in it. YOU WONT WIN!!!!!!!
I didn't really care for her class but the class didn't interest me much at all. She did talk very fast and all the practice/ graded quizzes due every Sunday on Aplia are annoying. DON'T GET THE BOOK! It's online with Aplia. Test are kinda of hard so study. Kinda wish I took a different teacher. Also she said she did the +\- scale but then didn't.
I hated the class so bad .. Too much group work and if you do not do the work you will lose 15 % on your final grade .Hint <try to set with a group of geeks ..It is basically a puzzle course with her .you feel like chair in class and sofa at home you don't know how to find the solution for Quizzes .play songs and asks students what songs to play
Unclear teacher awkward teaching method you feel like child in day care . put songs be4 start the class . work with you neighbor <student > borrow some solution . calm down and shut ur mouth and phone ..Didn't enjoy at all in her class
Dont buy book, you'll need digital copy more than likely... She definitely is easy on the eyes and pretty easy and straightforward all around. Don't know what all the negative feedback is about, after going to all her classes she offered plenty of opportunities for extra points and easy grades
Talks to the class like you are a bunch of children. The knowledge that you gain in the hour and a half lecture can be taught in 15 minutes. Wastes time.
Yes she's pretty but back to teaching- she does talk too fast and is a bit sarcastic. Wish she would slow down. I wouldn't have taken the class if I would've visited this site first.
This class is easy but very confusing. You can get lost if you don't pay attention. She is very fast but only because there's a lot to teach and she wants to make everyone understand. I would recommend her. She's lineant and wants to help. Don't buy book because it's on Aplia.
She doesn't even use the text book. It's online through Aplia. Her tests are online, but she doesn't write them. You don't have to go to class to take exam. Her SI for this semester was hot. Very confusing course, lots of work. If you miss one day, it's hard to catch up.
She is a pretty laid back and nice professor. She lets you do the homework past the due date if you ask her to open it up again. It can be hard to understand if you don't pay attention so listen to her. She really helps so if you have any questions just ask her. And I have to agree with the other person that the SI she had for the semester was hot.
Great professor! She's very chill and makes the topic very clear to understand. All of her work is on Aplia, so it is kind of like an online course but you still have to show up to class because that's where she gives you the notes for the test that are online. No book needed. Always available through email. Loved her class!
She often cuts classes short and offers little to no help. All exams were online, and the questions were from test banks.
Professor Johnson is a little bit all over the place but that's understandable as she teaches economics and in a high school too. Her instructions for homeworks and projects aren't clear cut which sometimes led to some confusion. But overall, easy class and it should be an easy A.
I LOVE SHAKIRA! So many of my friends complained about their AIS professor, but Shakira makes it so easy. Just do what is assigned and you should have no problem. Plus she's always available for help and gives of extra credit. Going to class counts as part of the grade and you will have to read from the book. By far the best AIS professor at UTSA
I would not take again. In fact, I wish I dropped it when I wanted to. Micro requires teaching and A LOT of explanation to understand concepts -- I always felt stupid in her class. Homework is online, I used it to understand what was going on. Her standards are clear, follow her methods you will get a B. She notices when you don't come to class.
She makes macroeconomics very easy to understand. At the beginning of each week you are required to do a blog entry as an introduction to the topic you will be covering throughout the week. Then, homework from Aplia is assigned and sometimes a quiz is also given. Instructions are pretty clear and gives you enough time to complete the assignments.
Professor Johnson H-O-T, and she teaches too. She certainly got my attention.
5 week class over the summer a BLUR. 26 grades(tests, quizzes, blogs, etc.) No economics tutors were available in the JPL. This made difficult since this was an internet class. Stay current with the blogs and you will be exempt from the final. Time management is the key and should be easier over a long semester.
The milestone assignments seem like unnecessarily added busy-work. A lot of reading and homework. Fair grader.
Shakira Johnson took calls from her daughter, her daughter's friend, and her ex-husband DURING lectures in the classroom. She made an easy subject complicated, and belittled students that needed help ("come on guys, this is easy- like fifth grade stuff") I learned nothing about the subject but way more than I wanted to about her personal life.
This class was an easy A. Keep up with your work for the week (homework, quizzes and milestone assignments) and you'll be just fine. Professor Johnson is ridiculously organized. I would highly recommend taking her in the summer for a five week course; it goes fast and gets boring basic classes over with.
Great teacher, I would definitely recommend. If you complete each milestone badge throughout the course, you can skip the final. I took the final to get extra points, it only counts if it helps your grade. Make sure to complete all milestone badges. Good luck!
Great professor! she is considerate if you missed assignments, took her online. super easy class. would definitely recommend her for Eco2023
TAKE ONLINE. Easy A. Homework and quiz for each chapter. 3 exams. Optional final if you get 80+ on 5 milestone assignments!
Don't take this professor, makes things too complicated and has so many teaching assistants, she might as well not even teach the class. Honestly so much work for a non core class.
I am taking her Microeconomics class online. I have never been so irritated by a class in my entire life. There are homework assignments & quizzes to make sure your doing the reading, which is fine. BUT she also assigns "post and peer reviews", which take FOREVER. They're very hard to do. Don't do it, this class will just be a thorn in your side.
Online class where the entire course is laid out on day one. 20ish question HW due every sunday and a 7-9 question quiz to go with it (the quiz questions are just picked at random from the homework). Occasional blog post or current event. Very easy to follow course and Johnson was easy to communicate with as she made a GroupMe to ask ?s.
I would take her if you don't care on learning much, but still want the credit. Almost all test questions and hw questions were found online. I was able to exempt the final with high grades on specific assignments.
This is the worst class I've ever taken. It's almost entirely on Pearson's website (which you pay extra for) and the teacher has done almost nothing. The content is complicated and not explained. It takes 6 hours per module, and we're doing 3 modules a week. This is unacceptable quality.
It's the last week of class and this teacher has not taught anything at all. She relies on only the Pearson website (which you have to pay for) for learning and grading with no attempted student interaction. I could have paid 1/3 of the cost and taken this at a community college and get better quality online instruction.
100% reliant on the HORRIBLE online program that does a terrible job explaining things, then tests you on information that hardly reflects the homework. Instructor is completely hands off and there is no attempt to remedy the terrible testing.
Professor Johnson wasn't engage in the class and should've been considering the confusing material. I felt that she had the mentality that in college you shouldn't need an instructor to help you. Basically, the online book (Pearson) was your instructor. She gives a lot of homework weekly/20% off for late assignments. Don't recommend her at all.
Quiz and Test are hard.
This class was okay, I guess. The quizzes and tests are relatively hard depending on how much effort you put in, of course, but they're weighted very little. The homework is pretty simple, and it can help balance your grade out by the end of the semester. The class itself wasn't bad but it's time consuming due to the readings but hey, it's college.
The class was basically an online class with an optional lecture. The lecture is not mandatory but she will do random quizzes in class.
Professor Johnson seemed as if she was going to be your typical online professor during the first unit. After the first unit however, she began to change the course and went against what the syllabus stated. She changed how she graded the homework and quizzes, added more assignments, and was overall very unclear with the material at hand.
This professor is not university material. I personally managed a higher than average grade. Class average was mid 70. Clearly reflects her lack of teaching abilities. Tests are excessively difficult with several convoluted questions. Lower-tier professor with poor quality lectures which prevents you from succeeding Don't take her, trust me.
Best Econ professor out there. She's incredibly knowledgeable about the topic and displays a positive attitude the entire semester. Helps students achieve the best grade they can by answering all questions and opening a GroupMe for students. She's also super attractive which is a plus. Make sure to attend the class though because there are pop ups
This class had too long of assignments, I could barely handle it. I would not recommend this class for non economic majors. I did not like how she made her tests and some quizzes proctored since it felt like I was already pressured enough not knowing the information.
Read off the slides. Not very helpful. I don't like economics so I just didn't like the class.
I took this class in the summer so a lot of info was crammed but honestly she had a very stale way of teaching the material. A lot of the exams and quizzes were based off of learnsmart exercises online which were very easy to make mistakes on and drastically affected grading. Overall, I wouldn't recommend this class to non-economic majors.
Okay Professor Johnson is a bit dry but her class was so easy to pass. You are allowed to use the book and your notes on all quizzes and tests.. come on now. As a non-economics major I found this class extremely easy. There are lots of assignments but they are so east. Seriously such an easy A. If you didn't pass you must not know how to read...
Great, compassionate professor. Definitely was a tough course, with monitored quizzes and exams, but the best to learn from.
Online course with proctored exams and quizzes. There were a lot of assignments to complete and try to keep up with. Reading the textbook before completing assignments would help a lot.
Provides short video lectures on each weekly module which give a general idea of what you'll be seeing in the textbook. Majority of the class is textbook-based with an online fill-in-the-blank/multiple-choice pre-homework (it's like a refresher to help you before the homework), then homework/quiz combination. She's pretty reachable, made a Discord.
She is really helpful when it comes to reminding us of due dates which is important. Also, she seems like she actually cares about her students and their concerns. She is also accessible outside of class! Only thing is that the coursework is kind of difficult but other than that she is good.
Terrible class taught by a pretty bad teacher. She relies exclusively on smartbook and connect content and does very little to add to them. This entire class is taught in a vacuum, so many of the concepts border on questionable to down right incorrect. You can learn more about economics in a 10 minute youtube video than in this entire class.
The format for this course was very streamlined and the grading criteria is clear. She has a habit of adding extra credit and curving grades, especially if your section is having trouble. But TBH, it is not a hard course. There is just a lot of work. Easy A if you are willing to finish the assignments.
Proctored exams and quizzes, a lot of reading. Be ready for multiple homework assigments a week.
I don't have anything bad to say about her as a professor but the work load is a lot. I had on average 6-10 assignments a week a it was very difficult to keep up with. I took the course online so this was to make up for the lack of lectures but I recommend taking the course in person if you want an A. The verbiage in assignments was easy to mix up
This professor was fine, nothing spectacular though. The class does feel like it's taught in a vacuum and I don't always agree with the answers on the tests, but as long as you do the assignments you will pass. read the textbook, take notes, use them on the (proctored) tests and you're set. She has Discord, but don't expect an instant answer.
I took ECO 2023 with this professor for Spring 2022 semester. It was A LOT of homework and quizzes. We used McGraw Hill and if anyone has experience using that software then you know it's VERY time consuming. The retry for the quizzes had 10% always taken off. Which did not even help. Also, no extra credit. Good luck if you have this professor...
A good 1/3 of my week was spent on this class, so make sure you have the time in your schedule for it. There is a set of short lectures, a reading, online homework, and a quiz every week. Professor Flores/Johnson is okay at explaining, but combined with the reading it will make sense. Definitely not a class where you can "fake it 'til you make it."
Excellent Professor. Clearly explains the material and strives to have students understand the concepts during lectures. The tests aren't terribly difficult and the assignments are all online. One of the best professors I've taken at UTSA. Highly recommend for both econ courses. (she's a baddie too).
Professor Johnson was an average professor, I took it online so I never really interacted with her. The quizzes and exams are proctored, there are multiple homework assignments every week. A pro, is that in this class, the homeworks weigh more than the quizzes and equal up to the the weight of the exams so if you fail an exam you can still pass.
Avoid this professor if you can. Her assignments are extremely difficult, and all quizzes and exams require webcam. Quizzes have 2 attempts but 10% deduction and different questions. Exams are timed, I was always rushing. If you take her and have no choice, make sure this is your only hard course because most likely you will be struggling
Webcams have to be on for quizzes and tests and that made taking them super stressful. The tests and quizzes were hard. If you can take another teacher for econ, do it.
Do not take if you have other options . Barely any teaching and she just gives way too much work . It does not help that she is a tough grader as well.
She told us that her class was too easy so she needed to make it harder. Each module had around 4 assignments one containing 40-ish questions. Work is not difficult but exams are not like the review. AFTER she removed questions & curved because the grades. Attendance is "not required" because tophat is accessible anywhere WOULD NOT TAKE THIS CLASS
To make a long story short, save yourself from taking this professor. There is no effort in any of the lessons as it is all generated through the McGraw Hill textbook and video lectures recorded years ago. If you can find absolutely anybody else to take I would. Kind of feels like this class is just a bullet on her resume. Hopefully she changes.
Everything is generated through McGraw for assignments and quizes. She is consistent with her assignment due date schedule, in my case everything was always due on Tuesday. Her homework will take several hours to complete but I wouldn't say its super difficult. Her quizzes are proctored but you are allowed 2 attempts.
really hated this course, every week you are doing a new module with roughly 4 things due all in one day. everything is taught out of the McGraw textbook, her very outdated video lectures that were made 5+ years ago, or youtube videos. We only had 1 or 2 Zoom meetings the whole semester and even then they didn't help that much :(
Most to all assignments and readings are done through Connect McGraw, and are just thrown at you. She doesn't really teach, just a new module every week with 4 assignments due every Tuesday, one of them being a quiz. All quizzes and exams are proctored. Do not recommend this professor if you actually want to learn, not memorize.
Only used McGrawHill, didn't actually teach and never responded to questions.
Possibly the worst class and professor I've ever had in my ENTIRE college career, I say that with no exaggeration. All she does is throw assignments at you (I'm talking up to 8 assignments in ONE DAY) and expect you to do all of them. I work full-time and have 4 other classes, so I dreaded coming home to do her assignments, mainly missing most.
I really should've just taken Professor Temel, a great teacher (had him for micro). PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! I only did it because I registered late and she was the only macro prof with open seats...that was already a red flag. This class really put a dent in my GPA, I regret ever choosing to have this professor.
this class was very difficult and was mainly taken on mcgraw hill. The professor herself is nice enough, but her lectures were only so helpful and didn't really teach what the assignments wanted. LOTS of assignments and tests that were unforgiving and confusing. don't recommend this class if you dislike reading or struggled with macro-eco.
I took this course online. the professor is good (responded to emails, and gave extra points on exams), but the class is HARD. If you do not like economics or reading you will struggle. Every week there are 2 chapters to finish with 3 assignments that are due on Friday. I wouldn't take this class again if I didn't have to.
Professor Flores was very attentive in terms of providing support, she responded to emails and offered her help when needed, but this class is HARD. There was literally so much work that can take HOURS out of your week and not to mention that the often quizzes and test are quite challenging as well. You'll learn a lot but be prepared to lock in.
was the worst class i've taken here at utsa. only used mcgraw hill and each hw assignment consisted of outdated videos and then multiple choice questions. each week multiple assignments are due with varying lengths but took hours to complete. professor was not present at all and only TA would send out emails. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND TO ANYONE ‼️
Good luck.
Good luck!
This professor assumes you have no other class but hers, and the homework will take you hours. About 5 assignments due every week which may increase up to 10 at times. The workload sounds fine at first, however those assignments are extremely lengthy and are basically just busy-work that gets in the way of your other priorities. Avoid her!!!
Normal online course. Anywhere from 1-3 assignments per week. Easy class to juggle with other classes. Work is hard but not impossible. Great class overall if you can enroll in it online. Sharika is always communicating and is very professional.
There is an absurd amount of homework. If you plan on taking other classes besides this one FIND A DIFFERENT PROFESSOR! So much material every week and the lectures do not help at all. Assignments are lengthy and are weighted differently making it hard to fix your grade. DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR
There's a good amount of assignments and actually gives extra credit for some those if done early/on time. Lectures were clear and helpful. Usually is accessible outside of lecture hours for any questions. It wasn't even that bad. Only got the grade I did because I slacked off a bit and economics generally isn't my favorite to learn.
This class is all McGraw Hill. The actual reading and homework's are not difficult, but the quizzes and exams are. They are all open notes and yet still can be very difficult. The professor posts 5 minute lectures that do not help, so just do the McGraw Hill assignments. I tried reaching out to her over grade discrepancies, but no response.
