Yekta is by far the sweetest professor I have ever had. She really wants you to learn the material. However, no matter how good you are, nothing will make up for the hell that is CHM 101. Yekta tries her best but often times does the example problems wrong and has to redo them. She is not always clear either with explaining the material.
Do not take her. She is very very bad.
I would not recommend this to anyone unless you have clear understanding of chem her lecture tend to be very long with a large load of material but not enough explanation. she tends to lecture really fast regardless of whether or not you get the material overall I would say be prepared to teach yourself and take a lot of tutoring.
Overall, she is a decent person and is an expert in her field, but she has a hard time finding a teaching process and actually teaching the material to people in a way they understand. Also, she does not answer questions well and she flies through it when trying to explain.
Try to avoid taking Yekta as a professor. her lectures are confusing and her tests are really hard even after two weeks of prior studying. She is extremely intelligent and is a nice lady, but she's not the best at explaining concepts in lectures. Prepare to self teach
The class is hard on its own, but Yekta (as sweet as she is) certainly didn't help. We often found ourselves rechecking her work and getting incorrect answers. The book helps so much, esp. in gen chm II. Read as much as you can, and you easily can get a B
She doesn't teach just reads off of slideshows and when she does problems she goes extremely fast and it is hard to read her handwriting. Also when doing problems she doesn't explain at all.
Ok here's the deal. If you want clear and concise PowerPoints with problems and examples included then she is for you. But if you ask me she flies through things and it is hard to understand the amount of info given each class. Personally I just spent time teaching myself through the PowerPoint. Tests are a hard as well
if you can avoid taking this class with her, do it. chemistry is bad enough as it is, but even worse with her. she may be a sweetheart, but is terrible with explanations. her exams are awful, and the examples she does in class are nothing like what she tests you on.
She makes mistakes in class, and usually does not give a clear explanation of the material. She is a nice person, but not a good professor. You have to teach yourself a lot of the material covered. Her lectures can also get pretty boring. She is not the worst, but could be much better.
First, I would like to say that Dr. Yekta is a very nice woman. This being said, you don't want to take CHM 101 with her if at all possible. She goes through material at a very fast pace and information is oftentimes unclear. Be prepared to learn the bulk of the material on your own.
The class basically consists of a massive power point full of problems that she (sometimes) will show how to correctly solve. While she does go through material at a rapid pace, it is basically impossible for her to slow down much because of the massive amount of material covered in the course.
Yekta gets a lot of hate because she won't help you in office hours unless you have specific questions. If you go to lecture she will give you specific things that will be asked on exams and things people usually make mistakes on. Study the powerpoints and old exams and you should do fine.
I had a rough time with this class. Yekta made the first 3 exams extremely difficult. I spent every weekend this whole semester studying. The exams are meant to trick you. Thankfully, I got a B+ on the last exam and made an A on the final. She drops your lowest exam grade. In hindsight, this class is possible but you HAVE TO put in the work!!!
Often makes mistakes on problems during class and tests are difficult. . She's a nice enough lady, but shouldn't be teaching. Do yourself a favor and take this class with someone else.
The final is 34% of final grade, 5 exams, and a measly homework section (14% of grade) so you can go from hope and happiness and have CHM124 enrolled for next semester to getting a 55 all within 3 hours in mid-December. You better have adderall if you want to finish writing her notes. Penmanship so bad I thought I was in JPN101 Beginning Japanese
Dr. Yekta is a good professor. A lot of people do not like her due to their own lack of trying in the class. CHM101 is the first "difficult" class that a lot of students take, so they do not realize they are no longer coddled and need to actually put in work to do well. She explains the material well, and is willing to help. Easy A if you try.
She is very nice BUT she just reads off of her own slides. In a big lecture it is hard to ask specific questions and get a quality answer. Lots of individual work must be put in to do well in this class (concepts were not explained well). After having the best chemistry teacher in high school, I was as not a fan of her teaching style at all.
Her lectures are literally her reading off the slides. However, if you ask her questions, she answers them. SO AS A STUDENT BE MORE UPFRONT WITH HER IF YOU WANT TO GET SOMETHING OUT OF THIS CLASS.
Yekta is the worst professor I have had at URI this year and I really regret taking her class. She shows up 5-10 minutes late to every class and really just does not put much effort into her lectures. Coming to class is not worth it because she just reads directly off her powerpoint which she posts online. Tests are very hard as well.
I loved her class. She was very clear about the expectations for exams and gave out past exams that you could use to study off of, they were very similar to the actual exam so they were helpful. Her power points were clear and she gave a lot of practice problems to help you learn the material. Overall a really good professor for CHM 101.
She gives you the lecture notes before class which is great. Also, the practice exams were super useful. She sometimes goes quickly through the material but if you ask her to clarify she's more than happy to.
One of the worst professors I've had. Does not care about her students, and rarely offers help. Reads off her slides, so you are better off taking notes at home and learning the material yourself. I would not recommend this course if you are not strong in chemistry.

The chemistry department at URI is abysmal and is on probation, AGAIN! She makes you show your work. However, she doesn't teach how she wants it done and if you figure out how to do it by yourself and get the answer correct, but the work isn't done the way she wants, YOU'LL FAIL! She talks a lot, but teaches nothing. Goodbye to my perfect GPA
She is a very knowledgeable professor, but at times she doesn't convey what she is trying to teach very well. She posts her lectures online, so skipping isn't that big of a deal. The class isn't the hardest but requires effort to get a good a grade.
Exams are nothing like the practice problems and she's a very hard grader.
She's a great professor but workload is a bit heavy, make sure you study for the class in order to do well on the assignments and quizzes. She is also a very picky grader, any small mistake takes points off. But she does grade the quizzes/assignments and answers emails pretty quickly.
I have her for an synchronous class in COVID- doesn't communicate anything with students, tests are nothing like the homework, doesn't post any lectures and provides very little material- VERY teach yourself. Having a bad time rn
This was an asynchronous course, where Dr. Yekta posted helpful lecture videos. There is a weekly Connect assignment which takes a couple hours to complete but has multiple attempts and is an easy 100. Exams were fairly simple. There are a few easy quizzes, taken in groups. If you keep on track with a schedule, this class is doable.
Good teacher overall, but on exams she is a very strict grader. All quizzes are done in groups in class, and there is only one homework assignment per week which is online and fairly easy.
She is not a good professor at all. She cannot teach, her teaching is her reading off of her slides, very condescending when talking to her. She grades very harshly and gives no partial credit. Wouldnt recommend her to anyone else to take for any class she teaches.
Puts you in random groups in the beginning of the semester and has you sit with them every class. All exams are online. Quizzes are in person but you can work with your group. A decently tough class, but she is a good professor overall. Gives lots of opportunities for practice. Although exam are online, they are difficult to pass without practice.
Very condescending. All she does is read basic concepts off of the slides, then expects us to know things that were never asked in the homework or the practice. If there is any way you can change to another teacher for chem, it is in your best interest to do so.

Poor quality of teaching. All lectures. Easy Homework. In-class group quizzes. Take-home exams can be difficult (Mulitple Attempts). Get the textbook and CHM101 App. 10 absences are allowed per semester. Do the exams with your friends and you will be fine. Overall bad teacher but that is Chemistry for you.
Dr. Yekta is hard on you because she wants you to be prepared for the next chapter or the next semester of chemistry youre going into. Which I think was beneficial. Attendance is mandatory because theres in person quizzes and other in person assignments. She has office hours during the day and at night to reach her at anytime which really helped.

Absolutely atrocious and inconsiderate professor. Reads off her slides but expects us to apply the knowledge in a conceptual way. Gives no time to write down slide notes in class. Worst grading criteria ever. Few things taught in class actually apply to exams. Would rate a zero if I could. Can't believe you can get paid to be this bad at your job.

No extra credit, condescending, prides herself in being difficult. I understand Orgo is hard but she is on another level. I have never left a negative review, very dissapointed.
Quite possibly the worst professor I've ever had. She is so rude to her students. Orgo is known to be a hard class but her tests are quite literally impossible. She makes you feel so stupid in front of the class when you ask a question. Literally don't know how this university hired and kept this rude condescending woman.
This is the worst professor here. She does not care about her students and I think she wants us to fail. So far all I hear about her are bad things from other students and no one is doing well in her class.
This professor has extreme attitude issues and makes you feel like a complete idiot for not knowing how to do something that was learned 5 minutes ago. She also gives you attitude and makes you feel stupid for answering a question wrong either in class or on an exam. BASICALLY MAKE YOU FEEL STUPID.
She has a very condescending attitude towards her students, even when they are asking questions to better their understand in the class. She has no concept of how people don't understand Organic Chemistry because it comes so easily to her. She wants students to participate, but gives them attitude when they answer something wrong.
Don't even think about taking intro to forgo with this unbearable professor. She is mean and disrespectful. she doest care about anything and about her students. I had a 69 and she refuses to round it up to a 70 so I could have a c-. So now I have to retake this course like tf is wrong with you. She does give homework due every Sunday.
All of the exams and homework were online and the last exam and the final was all multiple choice. Her lecture slides had lots of information on them and she went through them pretty quick during class time but if you go through them on your own time and take notes off of them you will do fine. The exam questions are Mae from the slides.
I had Dr. Yekta for a CHM101 summer course. I thought she was a wonderful professor. She gives you everything you need to succeed, and even supplies the class with extra practice problems. She gives you two attempts for each exam, which I found extremely helpful. That being said, she gives no extra credit and is a harsh grader. Best of luck !!
By far the worst professor I have ever had at URI. is so condescending, not understanding at all, actually says she'll "get pissed off and annoyed" if we make mistakes. No one wants to ask questions because when we do she makes us sound dumb in front of everyone. does not respond to emails, can't reach her unless you're face to face. Overall awful.
By far the worst professor I have had here, she is rude to her students and doesn't care if people don't understand what she is teaching. She is rude when you raise your hand and makes you feel stupid. Her exams are times, and you don't get enough time to complete the work no matter how much you study..
Personally, I enjoy chemistry but Yekta makes me question that. She is rude to students when they ask questions and is unclear when explaining concepts. If you did not do well in chem in high school, be prepared to spend hours studying.
Disregard the hate comments. Prof Yenta was amazing. Every exam was open note. She is very clear about what she wants you do do/ how to show your work to receive full credit. Taking notes is super important for the class. It's helpful to have a background in chemistry for this class, if you took AP Chem you should be fine.
Okay class. All exams are only, multiple choice with two long answer questions. The way she teaches is really fast and confusing. She uploads videos on the work and slides so that helps.
She's known for being very strict, but she always tells us *how* she's strict. For example, at the beginning of the semester, she told us that getting the sig figs right was more important than the math, so we'd know what to prioritize. She will continue to tell you what to prioritize but only in class, not in the videos/slides, so go to class!
Worst teacher I've had in my academic career. Refused to teach us how to do problems because no one knew how to do it. Makes tests as hard as possible, puts questions that we have never seen. practice tests do not help at all. Informed us that the final would be constructed of questions that less that 30% of students got right on previous tests.
Love Yekta! Pay attention and study and you'll do just fine. Also lectures aren't mandatory.
I don't mind a hard class -- but Yekta doesn't teach. Her exam questions are never mentioned on the resources provided to us and required critical thinking (timed, no question hopping) I would avoid Yekta, as she really doesn't care but if you happen to have her be ready to teach yourself, the textbook is helpful. start studying early.
100% never taking her again. She writes all exams new each exam so you cannot find them online, that is fine, but the only grades you recieve are homeworks and exams, therefore if you do poorly on the exams, you are screwed. Thats what happened to me, 95% in the Homeowork category, but failed 4/5 exams. She also gives ZERO extra credit.
The class is not even hard it is just the way the professor grades stuff and how they give the lectures that make the class so bad. Would not recommend choosing this professor at all. the exams are work 68% and if you have a bad exam grade then your chances of passing are low.
The worst professor. The first day she literally says how she probably won't answer your email. Lectures are hard to follow and she does not care at all if you understand the content. She is very passive aggressive when asking her a question, like you are questioning her teaching in some way. Exams asked questions that weren't even on the slides
Atrocious. Orgo is already hard to begin with and she makes it worse. -1/10 do not recommend.
She is a very good teacher, explains material very well, but is a harsh grader. Her tests are ROUGH and half of it is written responses that have to be uploaded online with the test. She can be a bit rude and would laugh at people for asking questions or getting answers wrong.
Goes through the lectures incredibly fast. The other section that has her old grad TA has much easier orgo exams. Graded on a few things and does not give partial credit. Very easy to get a whole molecule wrong from 1 mistake and can go down a letter grade as open ended are about 2-4 questions long. Tests are now in person instead of online.
Despite all the bad reviews, Yekta is NOT a bad teacher. She has a very direct teaching style but it's clear that she wants her students to do well. Form study groups early, take time to ORGANIZE the notes (do not copy word for word), and go to class ready to learn. It's easy to fall behind in this class so make sure you stay on top of things.
Professor Yekta was the hardest teacher I have EVER come across. Your grade is based on tests only as the homework's are worth minimal points. She rushes through lectures and teaches the class like it's a review rather than teaching it like it's a new subject. She is rude and makes fun of students who ask questions. Shows no care for students.
honestly, i was worried going into it, she is an average professor. she will explain something if you need her to. her tests were kinda hard but its orgo so its no surprise. she doesnt laugh at people for asking dumb questions but make sure you study because its easy to fall behind. shes not awful, not amazing, its orgo, its gonna stink. you got it
Despite what others say, I think she is actually a great professor and is very thorough when explaining topics. She is very fair with grading and I actually learned a lot when taking her class.
DO NOT TAKE. I repeat DO NOT TAKE. I am getting a better grade in CHM112 then I ever could in CHM101. Don't be fooled by the online exams they are near impossible, the multiple choice is AWFUL. I would retake and do in person exams over going through her class ever again!!!!!
As bad as she seems, I have never had a professor provide so many resources to use for studying and practice, use them to your advantage. Half my exams were online open note half were in person no cheat sheet. Regardless, definitely still take notes, study, and go to tutoring groups. She is tough and seems like she doesn't care but secretly does!
I really do not understand all these low ratings. Yekta provides many resources out of class to help you succeed. She even provides lecture videos to review any subject matter you are confused on. All these bad ratings are from students who put little to no effort in. This class is hard but duable if you put in the effort just like any other class
I honestly loved having Dr. Yekta as a professor. She was very accommodating. Please do not let the negative reviews scare you. She is a tough professor, and organic chemistry is extremely difficult. However, she provides all of the material you need in order to be successful in her class. If you go to class and study, you'll do just fine.
yekta was the worst professor I have ever had. I had to swap classes due to her. She goes over everything super quickly and belittles anybody who doesn't understand the content immediately. She doesn't let anyone email her, you have to set up a zoom meeting or in person, even if it's a quick question. She's insufferable to deal with and overall bad
For my major I needed a C (73) in orgo and I received a C- (72) I asked for the one point and she would not allow it. I understand I was asking for a grade that I did not earn, but I explained my story and my side that I dont even need orgo in my career.
Had in S23. Listen up people. OChem is obviously going to be hard. If u put in the effort, Dr. Yekta gives all the resources u need to succeed. Everyone needs to stop complaining & simply study. There's literally videos & problem sets to ensure u succeed. You need a foundation for Ochem, it's like learning a new language. It's not easy. Put effort.
She just yaps, can learn better by not going to class. Yells at you if you get the wrong answer, then yells at the class if no one answers. Never choose her as a chem 101 professor, she's probably the worst one in the department by far. If I were not put in her class by my advisor I wouldn't have chosen her.
if you want to take her class, just be prepared to teach yourself. her lectures are confusing and she is horrible at answering student questions, told us to "figure it out" ourselves. that said, she does give a lot of resources to do well on exams. slides, self check problems, lecture videos and practice exams. proceed with caution.
Professor Yecta is not supportive. She only grades test and homework assignments. The home work, powerpoint and lectures are not reflective of the material on the test and asking her questions in class she says no, but asking one on one some times helps and other times she tells you to watch a videos which still leaves room for confusion.
She laughs at you in class. The exams make up the majority of the class. The homework is hard and long and isn't worth much towards your grade. The lectures and practice exams don't prepare you for the content on the exams ever. She is mean and unhelpful, you have to teach it to yourself. Avoid her class at all costs.
Exams were not that difficult if you actually practiced the material. She tells you the content of every exam if you pay attention in class. The only issue is the exams make up 82% of your grade, which is kinda wack. In my opinion, she was a bad speaker, hard to hear, and super hard to reach outside of class. Overall, she was all right.
Dr. Yekta is seriously someone who made me not like chemistry. Yekta only taught from the slides and if someone had a question she seemed put off. She was flat-out rude to students in the lecture and when I met with her multiple times and made me feel worse and I would come out with more questions. AVOID YEKTA!! If you go to her office hours make sure you have specific questions and explain to her what isn't clicking about a topic. PAY ATTENTION to what she says will be on the exam during class. She almost always has questions from the workbook on her exams. Very sweet when speaking one-on-one, but when talking to the entire class she can be brutal
if you put in the effort and go to class her lectures are not bad. The hw is a little harder than the exams so it prepares you enough, but you should still practice the material on your own (I watched Organic Chem tutor on YouTube). There are extra credit opportunities in exams, but after that there are none.
Professor Yekta is more helpful outside of class than in class. Her lecture style is hard to follow. She speaks fast and skips over material so make sure you know what questions to ask if you are stuck. If you have her, definitely review the material before going to the lecture. She is more helpful during office hours.
I don't understand all the bad reviews I had Yekta for organic chemistry I thought it was going to be really hard but she made it super clear and easy to under stand and for exams she gives you TONS of practice material overall great teacher. final was online and open notes too
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING teacher, and also an amazing person. She really wants you to do well in her class, She's a really good at teaching, and even gives lots of resources and video lectures if you miss lectures. I thought I would hate organic chemistry but I THOROUGHLY enjoyed it, all thanks to this amazing professor.
Get another chem professor if possible
You will end up teaching yourself most of the material which is why she provides lecture videos because all she does is read off the slides. Organic chemistry tutor will be your friend.
Overall rude and terrible person, if you ask questions she will make you feel terrible for asking. Her multiple choice questions do not resemble what she lectures about. If you have to take her section,. heavily rely on the TA.
I had Prof. Yekta for Chem II, Orgo I, & Orgo II. She is the first professor that actually made chemistry interesting and she connected quite a few dots which other professors had not in the past. Orgo is a course in which you absolutely need to do the reading in order to understand what's happening in class, otherwise you quickly end up lost.

I had her for both gen chem I and II over the summer. She is fast paced, but she is flexible with her office hours. She gives mini breaks since it was a lecture then lab class. Her quizzes and labs are group work and she goes over them. Her exams are okay; you do a part by yourself then the other part as a group.
I had her for Gen Chem 1 at PC. Best decision ever!! She was so nice! Exams were very fair and part of the exams were done in groups!! Fast pace course and really had to teach myself some stuff, but overall it was great. She would never make us do the full 4 hours of lab and she let us be in groups for lab!
I personally did not like the way of teaching this professor has, she goes over things so quick and does not explain them. One example problem and thats it and when you ask for help it leaves you more confused.

I have her for organic chemistry 1 right now and she has been the worst prof ive ever had. does not care about her students at all. only has "office hours" right after class because shes a teacher at a different school. harsh grading and very specific about what she wants. if you want to learn anything do not take her
She's lowkey not that bad. I had her for Orgo 2 and yeah it was hard but doable. Her exams arent super long but she does take off points for tiny mistakes so watch out!! Overall, it was a good class, but it was difficult.
