The worst teacher in at Altoona. Very difficult to understand and rarely takes the time to clarify for students. No study guide is offered for any of her tests and she has no resources of assistance outside of textbook. Furthermore she often bashes the American work ethic. The class as a whole did extremely poor and she refuses to take any blame.
Definitely the worst teacher in Altoona, first off its hard to understand her, she moves way to quickly, makes class intimating and calls on everyone constantly instead of actually teaching it she expects you to learn it from the book, your better off teaching yourself and not going to class
I am taking this class online, the instructor moves at the speed of the class, but has been very good so far. I am not sure why every one is so upset. Love the class, she has been very flexible thanks to my wife giving birth and gives partial credit on quizzes and tests. I think most students are mad about having to work harder than expected.
I think Shamsa is an amazing teacher and recommend you take her class! Her work isn't even that hard you guys are all just complaining since you all want the easy way! I easily got an A in her help and when needed help she was there to assist me.
Oh, please. The people who have problems with Prof. Anwar are typically those who demand to be spoonfed by their professors. Sure, her accent can be intimidating, but she's far from hard to understand, and I never had any troubles with her class, despite not having enough money for the textbook (so my grade tanked due to homework not being done).
hard to understand and goes really fast through problems
She is by far the worst math teacher I've had in my life. First, teaching is not just doing the problem yourself on the board. It is teaching steps and methods. That isn't "spoon-feeding", thats how to teach. Secondly, she goes through problems so fast that she gets them wrong herself. Lastly, anything I ever learned came from ALEKS or Tutoring
Offers no help, hard to understand, no office hours, worst professor..... DO NOT TAKE
Professor Anwar is not at the top of the list for my favorite professors. Being an individual achieving a respectable GPA, I feel I have the right to say this professor earns an extremely poor rating. She does not represent the Pennsylvania State University well at all. For what his university stands for in education, she does not provide any.
I was taking MATH 21 for one of my math credits to graduate. I tried my hardest. I went to tutoring and even did all the problems in the book to help me study for the tests. I had to late drop the class because it would ruin my gpa. She constantly makes mistakes explaining problems and work on the blackboard. Math isn't my strong suit though.
First off, "Don't judge a book by its cover". Things are always not going to be easy in the beginning, especially when it comes to math. But I guarantee you, despite all the negative comments below me, she DOES want to see you succeed&will try to help you succeed if she sees you are hardworking&stick through. Math21 consists with time&commitment.
Professor Anwar has the daunting task of teaching math and does it the best to her ability. I found the tests hard, but if you do that homework then you can definitely do well. She keeps the atmosphere light which isn't easy to do with a dry subject like math.
I don't know why you are all being hard on Mrs Anwar! You are all just plain lazy and can't accept the fact that you can't own up and do work when assigned. I had Shamsa two years ago and let me just say MOST OF HER QUESTIONS FOR THE EXAM CAME STRAIGHT OUT IF THE BOOK, I mean it can't get any easier than that! I highly recommend Anwar she rocked!
Mrs. Anwar is the sweetest lady I've ever met! She truly loves her students and that can be seen through her teaching. She uses a lot of good analogies that help you understand Trig better. The class was a lot of memorization, but staying organized and on top of things will help you do well.
Very nice lady and I'm sure she does want her students to succeed however she offers very minimal assistance and gets frustrated when students don't grasp her teachings even though she does minorly speak broken English. Unfortunately her class put a damper on my Freshman GPA and was my separation from making dean's list, I would not recommend.
She consistently makes mistakes in her work and comes up with ridiculous excuses for why she made them. Is no help in preparation, hard to understand, low office hours. The fact that she expects us to do 6 hours (with mathway) of online ALEKS work that doesn't relate to the current topic along with 60 problems from some website is insane. AWFUL
There were 40 people in my math class. Currently there are 13. Hard to find during "office hours" and not much help. Hard to understand and basically does the problems herself very fast and moves on.
She started out the semester okay but as it went on, the class began to get harder. Makes a lot of mistakes when teaching and doesn't teach very well. I always felt like I left class more confused than when I came in. The only time I ever understood what was going on was when we had a substitute.
Shamsa is a very nice lady but not the best professor. Hard to understand and tends to move at an extremely fast pace. Does problems on the board herself and barely explains what she did to get the answer. Lots of homework and tests are hard unless you go to the LRC.
Professor Anwar is a decent person, but not professor. Constantly is making mistakes in her work, is very face paced and does not explain steps. Accent sometimes makes it hard to understand. Never in her office during her "office hours". Often calls out students in front of the whole class as well while exposing there test grade. Do not take her.
Shamsa is a nice woman, I feel bad that most of her students do not like her, however, her lectures move at a very fast pace. She does not explain how to do problems, makes many mistakes without correction until pointed out by a student, and is hard to understand. I spend countless hours at tutoring for this class. I have As in every other class.
will not give you any explanation on why certain steps are taken to find a problem. Will only work through the problem expecting you to retain everything she puts on the board. one of the worst professors I've ever had.
Take this class with her and your signing yourself up for a semester living in the LRC. Cant keep up because she goes so fast and her accent is so thick. Very nice person but just not suitable for a math professor. Wouldnt wish this class on anyone. Beware.
Anwar is a very nice lady, but is unsuited to teach this course. Classtime was devoted entirely to doing practice problems, rather than going over the steps to solving the problems. While doing these practice problems, she would make 3-5 mistakes per class.
Save your time and dont take this class.
As someone who has always struggled greatly with math, this course was an absolute nightmare, and I'm not even through it yet. The professor makes multiple mistakes and only corrects them when she's called out. I will probably have to drop this class, and that breaks me in a way I never thought I could be broken. Please avoid this class.
Professor Shamsa was a decent professor. We did have weekly quizzes and question heavy exams. I enjoyed that in class we went over practice problems because then we could see how to do different types of problems. You had to pay attention in lecture to know what steps to follow, but before she began with practice problems, she wrote the steps out.
So shes nice. She does wants you to learn but her explaining sometimes isint clear. Her homework is easy definitely what saved my grade. If you ask her 20 times she will answer it. At the end of the day it is math and it sucks but Ive had way worse professors. Like she really does try to help.
Dr. Anwar is a lovely lady but an absolutely terrible professor, she has no lesson plan and just does practice problems the whole class. No explanation when we have questions because we should know it. The math material isnt hard. Learning from Dr. Anwar is.
She went way too fast man
I would rather watch paint dry than attend one more of her classes. thank you.
I got screwed over by her. I had a different professor at the beginning of the semester. When she became my classes new professor my grade started to go down. She doesnt teach, she does practice problems the whole class and doesnt explain how she got the answer. Half the problems she does arent even in the homework either. DONT TAKE HER
I respect Prof. Anwar very much and she cares for all of her students a lot. She is willing to help but you have to put WORK into this class. To put this class into perspective, it was my first college math class. I had straight A+ or A- for math in high school. My final grade for this class will HOPEFULLY be a c. Take this into consideration.
To start off I want you to know I am halfway through the semester with Professor Anwar. The section I am enrolled in was originally to be taught by another professor. As soon as Professor Anwar took over I started to struggle. At this point in the course I am hoping for a C. I am normally a good student but this course with her really confuses me.
Good lady, awful professor. She only does practice problems and when questions are asked she just tells you to go to the tutors. She is not helpful whatsoever and is also unreachable outside of class.
Definitely one of the worst professors I have ever had. She mainly just reads the problems from the book and blows through all steps with little explanation. You would ask a question and it would barely be answered, she just recommends that you see a tutor. And if you try to email her, good luck with trying to get a response.
She goes over the easiest examples on her written homework assignments, but when it's time to take quizzes or exams, it's all hieroglyphics. Not to mention the 30+ questions online homework assignments as well. Do not recommend this professor.
Does not explain things in detail, just writes things down and doesn't actually teach. Very difficult to actually retain information and found myself learning more from YouTube and tutoring. Do not recommend whatsoever.
Could barely understand a word she was saying during class. The homework helped but then the quizzes made no sense at all to what we had learned. You can find easier ways to understand the material online than in class. There was a lot of homework to do that helped but was never like the quizzes or exams. Highly not encouraged taking this class.
she should be fired
One of if not the worst teacher I have ever had. First of all, I can barely understand her half broken English as I have hearing issues. Secondly, she does not explain what she is doing or how she finds answers, she just blows through them and expects you to understand. Lastly she makes lots of mistakes every class.
If you need a professor to help guide you through the course, Anwar is not the one for you. She is nice but very blunt and not the most helpful and tends to dismiss or somewhat humiliate students. Not very good at giving good warning about exams and homework collections.
Very fasted paced!!! Can't write a thing down while she is teaching. Have to do all of the work at home or you will not pass.
Professor knows the material well, but cannot explain topics well. Knowledgeable but unfit to teach. Try to go with a different professor.
She was mean to us in class when we got answers wrong, even though she didn't do anything but go through slides and expect us to be sponges for the information. Her attendance policy is terrible, she won't accept appointment notes. I broke my ankle, had to get it X-rayed, provided documentation, and she STILL took my attendance grade down! Dropped!
She knows what she is teaching, but isn't the best at teaching it herself. Her accent can be thick and difficult to understand, but after a while, she is easier to understand. She doesn't seem to understand technology well, leading to difficult-to-see projections.
Some reviews don't reflect the reality—she's a kind, fair professor. If you're disciplined, come to class, and do the homework, you'll do well. Her accent is easy to understand if you listen. Weekly quizzes are fair, and she drops the lowest ones. She communicates clearly and keeps things organized. I got an A and appreciated her class.
she knows what she's talking about very well, she can't teach it in a way that makes sense to other people. when students asked for help bc they didn't get the same answer, in a case where they followed what she wrote but got a wrong answer, her questions were circular. she doesn't seem to understand the mechanics of student learning.
She directly stated “Your grades don't matter to her and she's only there to teach and get paid.” She'll also say there's not exams but there really is and each is only 10 minutes for the test.
i cannot understand her and she flies through the notes
