Very smart, adorable and supportive Professor.Available outside classroom and respond quickly to emails.Th 1st prof. during my journey at Baruch who cares about her students.Wants everyone to learn and do well.Very inspiring "Always compare yourself with yourself, not with others".Finds th right words to encourage you complete the class successfully
She is absolutely great! I hope Baruch gets more professors like her. Textbook is not required.
Not only a great professor, but a great human being. All professors should aspire to be like her. The compassion and dedication she shows to her students almost brings a tear to my eye.
Shan Li is the truth. Her knowledge and dedication is almost palpable. She is very helpful in and out of class. She honors her office hours, responds to email quickly, and does everything in her power to help students succeed. She respects student input and encourages you along the way. To boot, shes a total fox, sexy and sophisticated.
I was hesitant to take her because a couple of people I know ended up dropping her class early in the semester. I am so glad I didn't follow them because she is a great professor. She types up her own notes and hands them out to her students every class! I actually enjoyed learning the material. Professor Li Shan inspired me to continue management.
Lectures are REALLY boring, you're literally sitting there while she reads WORD FOR WORD off the PowerPoint which you could have done at home if attendance wasn't mandatory. She's not engaging at all, and her HW's are irrelevant, she doesn't even go over them. I took 3120 with Mr. Tillman who was awesome. I HIGHLY recommend another prof!Trust me..
This is her first time teaching MGT3121. Her exams are somewhat confusing. She is very nice to provide a study guide before the exam. But some of the information from the study guide is not on the exam. So be prepare!! Homework is quite difficult (some will be on the exam). Agree, she doesn't go over it. Lecture is very dull.
First semester Professor Li's teaching a masters level course alongside an undergrad course, probably because the Baruch Administration imposed it after the actual 9500 got cancelled. Overall a very pleasant surprise and I learned plenty of stuff that I didn't otherwise learn from MGT9710. She is a good professor, better than most MBA instructors.
Her lectures are kind of boring, only three homeworks, 2 midterms and 1 final. She provides study guild for every test, textbook is not needed. she curves the final but not the midterms. Overall, she's a good professor and would take her again.
The Hw are difficult. The exams are fair. Just go over the class notes and redo the hw before exam, then you will be fine. A group presentation, she is easy for grading, so just finish it. Remember, nothing can be change on her syllabus. She doesn't care about any special situation, so don't imagine that you will get any special treatment.
Decent professor. You'll have 2 midterms, 1 final and some hw. She'll provide you with a review sheet before each exam. Some conceptual questions were confusing but overall not to bad.
im in a hybrid. homework is HARD. midterm is confusing. lectures are boring. she doesn't go over hw at all. group project is an easy 100. you are always wrong if you participate in class. review sheet is helpful + cheat sheet is allowed. if you aren't good at teaching yourself and watching for hw online take someone else. very tough grader.
The classes were not useful at all, unless you needed to ask her a question. Classes are not mandatory, just review slides for exam. MAKE SURE TO PICK GOOD GROUP MEMBERS.. or you'll regret it.
She is one of the best prof in baruch. She is very nice and very helpful outside of the class, and she is good looking too. The midterm was easy, but gotta be careful of the final because it was cumulative.
Professor Li seems like a great person and experiences in Operations Management but this course is just loaded with SO much information. With a ton of other hard classes, it's not easy to balance it all. The midterm and final were really hard imo. Her conceptual questions are so tricky because all the answer choices are identical.
Choose good group members, and understand all ppt slides, you will be fine for this class. It doesnt take your much time. Also, the textbook and connect are not required.
Hard to understand unless you pay extra attention. Assigned group projects last minute. 1 midterm, 1 final, 2 group projects, 4-5 hws. Does not allow hw to be done more than once.
Nice lady but not the best professor. Class lectures were next level boring, and the exams were very difficult. Homeworks were easy. Not an easy class so a better professor would be ideal.
Professor Li was really nice and really accessible via email and office hours. The homework gets two tries and she helps prep for midterm. Beware of group work though. Pick good group members or else it becomes stressful. Final was pretty tricky since cumulative, but you get a cheat sheet. I also think she might have curved the final grade.
It's a hard class, especially so in hybrid, but Prof Li is willing to help students to learn in and outside class. Exams are hard, but she gave a decent curve at the end. Overall good class, would recommend.
It was a hybrid class, textbook wasn't required and there are group assignments so be very careful who your partners are since day 1. Tests are conceptual and difficult (so make sure you understand the content!). Tests were similar to the homework so if you do well on those, then you could expect to do fairly well on the exams. Overall good prof.
The course itself isn't the easiest, but she does her best to simplify the material. 2 attempts for HW. PPTs help a lot. Allowed cheat sheet for midterm & final. Super helpful if you email her. Only negative I have is all the group projects; pick your group wisely or you'll end up doing everything yourself & its hefty work. She curves final grades
Take her class! showed up twice all semester. sign in sheet, a couple of online hws and she curves the final grade, cheat sheet for midterm and final
Okay lectures. Homework problems are helpful in practicing for your exams. MGT 3121 isn't a hard course.
avoid at all cost! take her if you want a lower than a B. grading is harsh and intense workload (many projects). cheat sheet on midterm and final but doesn't help. barely curves. grading is too harsh.
She tries her best to make the class easy. Has only a few materials to cover in class and a textbook is not required. Midterm and final, 2hw, two group projects but she grades very nicely on that. Some exam questions are from homework and some are straightforward, allows a cheat sheet. Do homework and listen to her lecture then you are fine.
Okay so if u r smart and dont have any other hard classes u r a good fit for the class cz u need lot of time and effort.. however if u r average like me then dont cz she dont care if u do somehow bad in midterm.. she will just tell u to drop the class.. no matter what was ur situation.. the passing grade is 70.... not sure if she curve final..
Cheat sheet doesnt help in exam.. also her reviews are much easier than the exam..
She is my favorite professor at Baruch so far. Her lectures are organized and she truly cares about her students. She also offers extra credits if you are able to figure out the bonus problems. We have not taken finals yet, but her midterm was fair.
Omg this professor is probably the worst I have ever endured. Her thick accent makes it super hard to understand anything and her lectures are disorganized and do not benefit you in any way. Do yourselves a favor and take another professor. Most boring class and cannotc explain anything in English .... stay away
I agree with previous rating, questions like brain teasers so easy to do well but also easy to mess up. No textbook, 1 pg cheat sheet on midterm + final. Group projects can offset bad exam grade. The students that show up and pay the tiniest bit of attention are averaging B+ and above. Those who don't either dropped or are trying to salvage a C.
Super nice professor with very clear expectations of the class. She is willing to help outside of the classroom, and also super responsive in emails. Overall I would recommend her class!
One of the hardest exams i have ever took in this class. Totally lost in midterm... If you think are are smart and able to take challenges take her. Otherwise pleasee don't take that prof.
This is one of the easier 3121 classes. Material really is not hard. Offers extra credit almost every week. Exam questions are straight from the HW and you're allowed a cheat sheet. During week 1, you form groups and do 4 or 5 group projects during the semester. Exams are not hard, it is the group members that can make or break your grade.
She has a terrible accent where you can barely understand her. Her class is very boring and she is very lazy. Final and midterm were very hard. Not the best professor. Would never take again, wasted time in class with bunch of games so she could do less work. PASS. F for you SHAN li
I usually don't write reviews for professors, but the previous review was nonsense, so I have to do the justice. Professor Li is an amazing professor, she cares about her students and makes them to learn. If you want to learn something useful (with reasonable amount of work) from 3121, take her!!
Do not take! Midterm and Final were so hard that everyone in the class did terrible! She had to curve the final grade because the whole class failed the final. Do yourself a favor and take another professor for 3121!
An easy A!
This is not an easy class, but Prof. Li is so knowledgeable and she teaches the class with passion. I definitely learnt a lot in her class. At the end, I find myself start to have a great interest in operations management.
The lecture is not helpful, things are oversimplified. The examples she did in class are nowhere close to the HW, QUIZ, PROJECT, and EXAM.
It's an online class, she goes too fast as if she is teaching herself. You can give her feed back about it but then next class is back to the same thing. she expects you to understand things right away.
Super nice professor. She is very smart, knows the material, explains things very clearly, and helps you with your homeworks.
She's EXTREMELY disorganized, so she can never fully get through the lesson. Doesn't use a textbook to save us money but we pay for it in the lack of structure. All homework and projects, aside from 2, were a surprise. They were never on the syllabus, she announced everything the week of. Has a light accent but an aggressively high-pitched voice.
Professor Li truly cares her students, and she always responses quickly to emails. If you have the interest and capacities, this is by far the best and most useful class in Operations Management, though quite challenging.
This class is not for those whom think they will pass despite lectures. 3 exams and are extremely tough. HWs are extremely tough. Some exams are 24 Hrs and only 4-5 questions but don't be fooled, you'll be working on that for an easy 5-8 Hours. Lectures are recorded which is useful.
Assigns HW and exams that will take you 8hrs to complete. Pretends to listen to students who constantly say that class is difficult and unclear. Her response: harder assignments. Makes students think that their poor grades not enough practice, even though it's really because of her disorganized and illegible "just watch me solve this" lectures.
Heavy group project emphasis, pick your group members wisely on day 1 seriously. Had an outstanding group and we did well over the semester all got B+/A- final grade. Not that difficult to understand during lectures take notes. Exam questions aren't super tricky just know the right formulas. Not much of a curve/no EC except for top 3 group project
One of the best professors at Baruch! I am not a management major but I'm glad that I took Professor Li's class, and I really appreciate the skills that I have learned in this class.
Quite possibly one of the worst professors I have ever taken. Disorganized and unhelpful in every way possible.
One of the worst professors at Baruch. Her class is so much more complicated to the other MGT 3121 professors, the workload is extremely heavy compared to the other MGT 3121 classes. Lots of time wasted, lots of unclear lectures, lots of unfair decisions, a nightmare class.
I don't know who wrote these 4 star and 5 star reviews but it must be the professor herself because this is the worst class at baruch and the worst professor at baruch. Not understanding and doesn't listen to her students' concerns. Very selfish and makes the class more difficult than it actually is. AVOID HER.
Professor Li is kind and knowledgeable. The load of her class is heavy, but she is always willing to spend extra time to help students. I also find her class meeting recordings super helpful for me to view class materials.
Cheaters of last semester, you sent us to hell! She said backtracking would not be allowed in midterm, because last semester some students posted their questions on Chegg and someone on Chegg answered for them. Avoid her if you wished Chegg to save your grade.
Regret taking this class. Too many simulations and case studies and they are hard to do as a group when everyone is busy at different times. Class is on Canvas with no backtracking on exams or quizzes. Not good at explaining in lectures. She makes you do a chapter summary for the free textbook so you don't have to buy it on Connect.
Professor Li is a decent choice for MGT 3121. Took her Fall 2020 and barely paid attention to class. This class has a couple of group assignments: 2 case studies and 2 simulations. She occasionally would give homework but you have two attempts, one midterm and one final that's both open-book.
Professor Li is just a wonderful person. She no only teaches the class with passion and dedication, she also cares and respects her students. Take her!
Tough professor. I don't recommend her she gives you a load of work. Probably one of the lowest professors in Management. I wish I took a different one, but she was the only one available. Makes you do lots of projects online and the tests are harder than her lectures.
There are about 3 group assignments. The little field assignments were very annoying because they went on for 3 days. She uses canvas instead of blackboard but doesnt tell her students about everything the website tracks when you use it. Overall she is very nice but it just wasnt a good fit for me.
The worst MGT 3121 professor in the school. Makes you do stimulations for 3 days. Doesn't explain her lectures well. Her tests are open book but it's useless. The tests are harder than her actual slides.
She is a hard grader and don't give second chances. She doesn't teach that well and isn't clear. When we do our first group project she didn't go over it clearly that a lot of groups messed up. This class is heavy on group projects, 3. We have to do her textbook reading or do chapters summary at the end of semester. 1 midterm and final. Avoid.
She is very kind, supportive and fair. The tests were not easy, but she curved the final grade.
If you want to have a lower GPA, take her. I had her this semester, I thought I will have at least a B with her because I was always listening to the class and doing my homework. I did study hard ! Her class is awful ! she didn't teach that well, and she doesn't even care if you fail her class. She will not give you chances to have a better grade.
This is my first ever review bc I never rate them but god her class was awful! Two projects which you need to be on top of every 5 min- literally, 4 quizzes , reading assignments, the final and midterm were a disaster 40 questions 2hrs no backtracking which made it worse, heavy testing , I did better in acc, no reviews, low curve which doesnt help
Her class is the worst. The tests are harder than her lectures. She just reads the slides and plus those questions in the midterm and final are 5 x harder than her lectures because her lectures don't cover the material. Also dumb and unnecessary little field labs and hard quizzes. DON'T TAKE HER
The recent reviews here confused me. I took her this spring and felt it was a pretty good choice. Workload wasn't bad. No backtracking made the exams tougher, but she made it up with a curve. Everyone in my team received at least a B+.
No backtracking for midterm and final. Problem examples she provided in lectures were way too simple compared to the exam questions, and those weekly HWs werent helpful as well. ***She also use Canvas as the learning platform, which means your tab activities will be monitored during exams***
This class isn't as bad as everyone makes it to seem. The professor is very straightforward with the grading policy and if you just show up to the lecture, pay attention, and do the weekly assignments, there should be no reason why you shouldn't be getting an A. Very responsive to emails and if you reach out to her, she will definitely help you.
Makes you pay extra money for a simulation and if you don't place top 10 she will deduct points. Tets is way harder than her lectures. Examples she gave in the assignments were simple compared to exams. No backtracking for midterm and final (what?!?). The average of both midterm and final was around the 70's and she didn't even curve. AVOID!!!!!!!
This professor is just ridiculous. She has a requirement to pay extra for a group project simulation and you lose points if you aren't one of the top teams. Its basically like you're paying extra for the opportunity to earn back that 15 points out of your final class grade. The class material also has you trying to learn about a hundred formulas...
This is not a bad class at all. Don't be scared by some of the reviews. If you pay attention in the class, do your homework (2 trials for each), I don't think you can ever get a bad grade. Professor Li is very reasonable.
Used canvas which was nonsense, Littlefield lab which messed up my grade, so I dropped the course. I don't recommend. Grading was not clear and she never responded to my emails. Homework was hard so difficult to get full points. curve was sooo low. :((
Nice professor, smart and organized, but littlefield lab was a pain.
For rational students: most of these negative reviews indicate a lack of accountability. This professor is reasonable. Grading policy is clear. The subject can be challenging at times; it's COLLEGE. Go to class, takes notes, apply yourself and you'll do well. Lab Group: tougher dealing with deadbeats; choose wisely. No textbook; $15 Lab is fair. GL
The grading system for the little field is so messed up, it's based on your group's position instead of the actual competition of the project. The tests are quite difficult with little to no curve. She doesn't take attendance, but be sure to come to class and take notes.
Everyone in my class was complaining about curves on exams, but everyones grade got boosted by 10% at the end of the semester, which is far more beneficial. The tests are a fairly difficult, and she kind of breezes through the lectures, and they boring, but that may just be the nature of the course, and the fact that it was hybrid-asynchronous.
She didn't teach anything throughout the semester, her lectures were basically reading off slides and than the exams were not at all close to what she teaches, The exams were pretty hard. She curved at the end of the course or else everyone would have failed the course. Do not take her if you are trying learn anything from this course.
I don't get why she has so many bad reviews lol, she's very reasonable and straight with you. $18 for littlefield labs for 2 group projects (choose people who know what they're doing), one homework (quiz) per chapter, midterm was easy if you studied the material and pay attention to class/her notes. 10/10 recommend!!
She is honestly the worse professor I've ever had. She doesn't know how to teach. She mostly reads lecture slides and rushes through problems. Then when you get a answer wrong she makes you regret participating in class in general. I don't know why she has good ratings when her tests are extremely hard. If there was no curve majority would fail.
I enjoyed being part of Professor Li's class last fall. Her clear expectations and equitable approach created a positive learning environment. The course included seven quizzes, each allowing two attempts, a couple of Littlefield simulations, as well as a midterm and final exam. I find earning an A in her class quite manageable.
Very bad experience
OPM 3500 was a hybrid course. The professor is great, but the course itself is challenging. She cares about whether you are learning, does what she can to help you know the material. The midterm was in person, allow 1cheat sheet the final was online. 4HW, submit notes after each class. She mentioned it was her first semester asking to submit notes.
She taught things unclearly and made my lowest quiz (HW) count toward the final grade. There's a pop quiz in class on paper, which is extra credit for this class. Her grading policy is kind of unclear.
Great professor! You won't regret taking her class. I learned so much and even discovered a passion for operations management thanks to her teaching.
Bizarre professor. She thinks that she knows but does not. She makes things more complicated than they are.
She genuinely cares about her students and responds to emails promptly. Her teaching is clear and effective, I feel that I have a good understanding of the course material. I also found the practice midterm to be very helpful in preparing for the exam.
I took OPM 3000 with Professor Li last semester. The course material was difficult for me since there are a lot of formulas, but Professor Li explains everything clearly and makes the formulas easier to understand. I definitely recommend taking her class.
