He was very understanding and helped a lot if needed.

I will say Prof. Christensen was kind of a difficult professor but in the end, I honestly enjoyed his class because it felt like he wasn't only trying to just be a professor but was also willing to make connections with students if they were willing to put in the work. He also gave very good feedback and always pushed me to do my best.

He is very passionate about ceramics and will make your learning experience a good experience as long as you are willing to put in the time to succeed in the class.

Shane was a great ceramics professor! Before taking his class I had never done ceramics before, but his teaching style was very hands-on, which made it easy to learn! Professor Christensen is one of the best professors at Utah Tech, some people complain about this or that, but it is an easy class as long as you show up and do the work. The only thing you're graded on are your pots, he's also a very lenient grader and understanding. I think what he cares most about is if you show up and try your best.

Shane's class is relatively easy if you just show up and do the work. You do have to pay attention to the demos because he only does them once and typically does not repeat them. Most of class is just individual practice. Overall, he's a good professor.

Professor Christensen is excellent at demonstrating &expressing the art of ceramics. Clay on a throwing wheel is deeply gratifying &meditative. This is perhaps the most fun course I've taken &I have an array of pottery, which I use daily, to reflect upon the enjoyment of the course. One must put in studio time outside of class, & you will want to!

This class does require you to come in outside of class. Prepare to come in an extra 4 hours a week if possible. You buy a lot of clay. 3-4 bags $18 a bag. Not included in course fee.

This professor gave clear instructions and demonstrations for each of the projects and was also there for additional help if needed. He made the class fun and exciting and gave good projects throughout. Although I am a difficult student my teacher understood my needs and helped me through the course. Do not take this class thinking it will be low effort and easy. This class requires that you put in the work and get a feel for how to throw on the wheel. He expects pictures of your work to be good but will explain how to take and edit them to meet his standard. If you have questions he is willing to check your work and tells you what to fix.

Shane was a great professor. I knew nothing about ceramics and his class was lovely. I would say that his assistants help even more than he does, but he stated multiple times he takes a "hands-off approach". He has very clear expectations and connects very well with students; he cares about the people in his class.

If you want to learn ceramics, you want to learn from Shane. He is very knowledgeable in most of the things ceramics, from the clay, to the different kinds of kilns and how they operate, and the different kinds of glazes, including how the chemicals that make the glazes react. His demos are so helpful and he's always accessible.

While this is an art class and you would think that you can get away with “oh I'm just being creative” that won't fly with ceramics. Shane teaches you the proper techniques to have sound pieces and if you don't follow those techniques then you won't get a good grade.

It was my first time at the potters' wheel this semester! I enjoyed learning how to make cups, bowls, and lidded pots! There is a lot of room for creativity, in the intro class there are 10 student choice projects to hand in. The lectures were extremely helpful.

It's not an easy class per se, but it is fun. He knows his stuff and is a good teacher. His canvas isn't great though, and you'll have to spend a decent amount of time working outside of class to do well.

Canvas is very confusing but overall, a fun class. Can be challenging to learn how to do stuff, but once you get the hang of it is a very fun and creative class. He does lots of demos and helps you whenever you ask. Sometimes he talks bad about other students to other classes, mainly about the old people taking the advanced class.
