This teacher is an awesome 1A teacher. The theme of his class is popular culture, and it keeps most of the class interested and involved. The readings are very interesting too. Get him for 1A!

He was seriously the best teacher I have ever had at BC. He's not boring and adds humor with his teachings. I learned alot from his class and he is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! He makes sure his students completley understand everything he is teaching and if you don't he is always available to help. Awesome teacher!!!

Very nice teacher, he is very clear in his instuctions and provides a lot of examples about his expectations. There are a lot of papers because it is ENGL B1A but he is not too much of a stickler when grading. Gives us fun topics to write about, highly recommended.

Intresting way of lecturing.

He definitely knows what he is doing, but his expectations are a bit much. There is a quiz and an essay everyday in class with NO make-ups allowed. Fair grader, and pretty lenient on writing topics for papers. Lots of reading as well.

Good professor. Real easy class. The tests are basically memorization and he's a real-easy grader on the essays. Recommended.

really entertaining, prof. jett likes to keep it loose in class, there's 5 test's 3 essays 1500 words each, really gives you a choice to write about anything you want tests are easy as long as you read and then he even reviews everything that he might put in his test's

This class was told to be very hard. I got a B in the class and got As on all of my essays. The only thing is there are 4 novels you MUST read to past those exams. His class was fun and when I missed class (only twice), there was not much to make up! There are 4 essays and 5 quizzes, that's it!

I had to write three papers, but the assignments weren't difficult

He is the Best teacher of all times!!! He was so helpful and considerate. I was ill and got a D but I'm going to take his class again in the Fall. I obviously recommend him to anyone who wants to have fun while learing.Jus be prepared because it is English B1a and jus because he is cool doesn't mean he isn't gonna challenge you! I took Jett for b1a and I HAD to take him any other class possible. I looked forward to this class all day. Super fun. yeah there's reading and a bit of writing but it's an English class. I got an A so thumbs up!

He is an awesome teacher. He is interesting and engaging. We had to read 5 books and write and essay on them and take a quiz on them and the midterm and final is also on them and then one research paper. I love to read so I loved this class!

Shane Jett was really awesome as a professor. Really funny, and good at teaching. He helps you learn. He is clear, and if you do your work you should pass just fine.

Cool dude, he likes his job which is good to see in a teacher. If i had to take another eng class id take him a good... the class is a bit challenging for people who arent awesome at reading but their intresting books

I loved this class! Jett is a great teacher and an awesome guy. He had the class laughing every day and always interested in learning more. His tests are easy as long as you do the reading that is required. There were a total of three 3-page papers that weren't difficult to write at all. I really enjoyed the class and I definitely recommened him.

Talk about DOWN TO EARTH! I really enjoyed this class and I generally DO NOT enjoy English classes at all. It was fun, laid back, interesting and just plain cool. This is what teachers are supposed to be like. You do your work, he does his and everything is chill. LOVED it. I would recommend taking this class!

He is really relaxed and you can tell he enjoys teaching. Some of the readings are boring but he makes them interesting

Very funny, helpful, expect to work your tail off, and don't miss any classes. Took this class in the summer, and it was a lot of work, but worth it, and fun. Expect to do a lot of reading. Wish all my professors were as good as Mr. Jett.

Alot of reading is required for this class therefore a lot of papers are written. However Jett makes the class tons of fun and will even go over the test before you take them. Very fun professor and would recommend taking any of his classes

This teacher is fun. There is alot of reading but they are fun books. Essays are written on the books and tests on them. I enjoy this teacher very much!

Jett was a super awesome teacher! Not gunna lie he pushed me to my fullest to get the assignments done. All assignments must be completed or you dont pass which made my work ethic improve a lot! He bases the assignments on books made into movies with the theme of "masculinity." Also, comedy is his tactic to teach which makes his class interesting.

Professor Jett is a great teacher. He is crazy funny and has a really relaxed personality. His tests can sometimes be hard, but he grades essays fairly easily as long as you just abide by his guidelines. I love english and he made me love it even more. I'm now majoring in english because of him. Take him for English 1a for sure!

Awesome professor!!! Really enjoyed his English B1A class this spring 2012 semester. He's funny and really nice! I got an A just by reading like 7 books, doing well on the papers for each book, and doing well on the tests assigned for each book. Prof. Jett is very motivating and inspirational! He motives you to try your best and succeed. I was never bored in his class. it was very fun and interesting. He makes you feel comfortable and welcomes you everyday for attending class. Shane Jett is the best English professor at Bakersfield College! Trust me. All the other ones suck and are super picky w/ grading papers. I learned a lot in his class. He makes it interesting. He has a super nice attitude and is funny. I am going to miss him.

Professor Jett is great! Took his Bible as Literature class and it was my favorite class. He gave a lot of quizzes and had us do quite a bit writing, but it honestly was not that difficult. I missed two of the weekly papers and still got a B.

Easily one of the best teachers i have had at bc! He is very passionate about his subject and is full of great opinions on every book he has you read. Just read the books, write ALL the papers he assigns, and you will get a decent grade.

Best class I have taken so far. Great sense of humor, he always keeps the class engaged. It is an English class, so your grade will reflect your effort. Just show up, do your reading and study. As expected, a good deal of writing is involved but he is super helpful,even when people ask dumb questions. doesn't grade harshly either. HIGHLY RECOMMEND

By far one of the best teachers. He is so helpful and always in a good mood. His attitude is always happy and funny. It's not the easiest class but you get what you put in. If you need help, ask him and he helps you out. Lots of writing but it was all on cool topics based on the book (the book is pretty interesting). HIGHLY RECOMMEND JETT!!

Shane is awesome. Best teacher I've ever had. Took his class over summer. Classes were supposed to be 2 hours and we were always out in 1 or less. He likes to give you the info you need and no filler. No 2 hour lectures with note taking. I would recommend Shane to anyone who needs to take B1A.

Very hard class, lots of reading, 26 pop quizzes, requires perfect MLA format, works cited page, and using primary & secondary sources,otherwise will hurt your grade tremendously. Very specific grading papers, no extra credit availabe. 25-30 Vocabulary words in every quiz & 25 from book and film. Final research paper and final exam is 12ur grd

I don't know if I wold have passed if I hadn't had him as a teacher. I didn't go to class often so I missed the daily quizzes. I turned in essays late so got marked down points. As long as you actually take the quizzes and turn in the essays on time you will be fine. He explains what he wants in the essays so just pay attention. READ THE BOOK!

Very straight forward course. Gives quiz on reading assignment every day. Most short stories can be found online. Seems like a great person! Cracks a joke once in a while.

Shane Jett's English B1A class was honestly amazing. His lectures were intellectual AND funny. Yes, there were lots of quizzes, but they were not difficult. As long as you did the reading, you would definitely pass the quizzes, if not get an A. The final exam questions were all taken from the quizzes. Super easy grader on the essays! Def recommend

Would recommend to anyone. Although the quizzes are daily, if you read the story you'll pass. STUDY VOCAB. Final is straight from all the quizzes. Extremely funny and makes each class enjoyable. Definitely would take his classes again

As long as you read the short story he assigns for the next class you will be good on the quizzes that he hands out every class meeting. He is not a tough grader on the essays. Overall, i would definitely recommend him to anyone.

Of you're not an English major stop here and take prof. Jett. His class his is simple and he actually follows his syllabus! Essay grades are much more format than content focused which is great for non-Eng majors who struggle writing. Go to class, read the short stories, write correct MLA and you will pass easily.

Every day there is a quiz on the previous reading assignment. It includes vocabulary words from the reading, who said it, T and F, and MLA questions. Aside from all the new vocabulary each day I enjoyed the class. Teachers was funny and caring.

Prof. Jett is nice and very funny. I would take him again. Every class meeting we had a 50 question multiple choice quiz which included vocab, mla format questions, and quotes from the assigned reading. The course also consisted of Four 2 page essays and one 7 page research paper. Final was like the quizzes but with 100 questions. Easy A!

50 question quizzes everyday and half the questions are vocabulary. Reading is mandatory or you cant pass. Easy grader on essays as long as you have all the requirements. I failed almost all the quizzes but got A's and B's on the essays and passed the class with a B lol.

The knowledge I have acquired from professor Jett is being used to do this day in other college classes. Making my answers educated and supported by scholarly resources. This has given me respect with my other professors. The vocabulary and book you read will follow you forever.

Best professor on campus! The only thing you have to do in this class is 4 essays that are 2 pages each and a research paper(the minimum requirement for an english class). All tests are exact questions taken from study guides he gives in class and goes over answers for! Super funny and chill guy. Never read. Easy A even if you dont like english.

My first English professor and all I have to say is ....... I would totally fail this course just to take the class all over again.

I heard that ENGB1A was a dread to some students, not in this class. This by far has been an easy class. The professor is cool, and has a pretty good sense of humor. The papers are easy. Just stick with his rules on how he wants it written and study for exams, and you'll get an easy A. At worst, if you at least try, you'll get a low B. Great class!

He is a great professor. Caring about your writing when it comes to grading. As long as you follow all the MLA format guidelines, youll be fine. Read the short stories. It will save you time when studying for the midterms.

One of the best professors I've had at BC. He is hilarious and very thurough while lecturing and giving feedback! You won't regret taking his class.

By far the BEST English professor ! I am glad i took his class because I read a bunch of diverting short stories and I also expanded my vocabulary. If i could take his class again i would. He has a great attitude and he is very understanding.

Very nice teacher, really cares about the subject. Got a study guide every day instead of a quiz. 4 essays, 2 midterms, a research paper, and the final are everything that go into the grade. Read every story, it helps prepare you for the midterms instead of cramming at the end.(Lots to memorize if so)

Jett is one of the most lay back professors I've have and even though he is lay back I still learned a lot. He gives out cheat sheets for each story and what questions from that story that he might take to put into the exam (not all will be chosen) there are also vocab and MLA questions. Study those and read the stories and you'll at least get a B.

This professor is absolutely hilarious and always makes sure the lesson is clear. This is my last English class required for my degree and I have to say I went out with a bang. Professor Jett is a great teacher and one of the few that actually care about how the student does in the class.

Shane Jett is a wonderful professor. He has a laid-back personality, and is very understating. His curriculum is based on one book with many short stories turned into films. There are quizzes you will have to take, but as long as you read you will be fine. He assigns essays based on the short stories of your choice. Great class overall!

He is probably the best professor Ive ever had. Completely understanding and is very flexible. He definitely cares about students success and likes to have a fun, watch films of the books we read, and tell jokes. This is my second semester with him and I totally recommend him.

Probably one of the best English teachers I've ever had. He's really down to Earth & chill, also very nice & understanding. The book for the class is pretty cool because after you're done reading it, you get to watch parts of its adaptation in class. As for work, he has packets for you to do and have quizzes based off them, then 4/5 essays(1 7page)

Great Professor. Lectures are to the point. Read the short stories and be prepared to take a quiz on what you read. Four essays on a short story of your choice from the book and a research paper are assigned, as long as you follow the rubric and proper MLA format they are easy to pass. Very flexible and understanding on due dates.

I took his class over the summer as my first college class. The class was fun and easy. He taught about stories that were adapted into movies which made the class entertaining. It was summer school so there were a lot of papers in a short time span, but you have a lot of creative freedom over them. A super cool guy and class.

THIS Instructor is is among THE Very Best. Willing to help, answers questions, works w/ students. Plenty of reading/ writing. Not easy. But, keep up, no problems! Took hybrid class-I was concerned about workload. 19 units, STILL received an A! You put in the effort, you'll do good!

The books assigned by Professor Jett I still carry with me. Class was very eye opening and I was able to develop a more critical writing format with with his helpful feed back. I highly recommend the professor. He is passionate and very knowledgeable!

Professor Jett has put together a fun and informative course based on the Bible being read as typical literature. He is very caring and careful not to offend potential Christians in his class, but he is not shy about presenting information that conflicts with their beliefs. All his material is scholarly level and his lectures are second to none.

I was a bit hesitant to take him based on the ratings, but fortunately he was a great professor. He was very understanding when I had an emergency. His assignments are pretty straightforward, and his feedback helped immensely. Truthfully, the class was not difficult because it was very clear what he is asking for you to do.

The professor is easy going and you can contact him if you need help. If you read the material you will do well on the quizzes, they are not hard. Although, your grade is mostly based on your essays (he gives a total of 4 + 1 research paper). He does help and gives good feedback. Gives the same amount of assignments every week which is usually 4-5.

He is a bit of a tough grader however if you just pay attention in his class you will do just fine. He does a lot of repetition in his lectures to make sure that students understand the material.
