Somewhat funny guy, has a persian accent. Nice tho
Nice guy, but accent was sometime overbearing.
doesn't explain well and is very hard to understand!!!
The worst teacher in the world do not take him!! he is useless and knows nothing. If you go to his class you will end up learning the same thing(nothing)
He has a good knowledge of economics and he is able to answer any our misunderstanding of the concepts, and the textbook that he has chosen is wonderful.
what a waste of time
The accent was the hardest part of taking his class. He was unclear, scattered, and gives homework that he gives you credit for whether you do it or not. Don't do the homework and bring a translator to class.
Don't take him. His accent was terrible, didn't explain economics well. He's a hard teacher also. I took him in econ 2 & I learnt nothing from him.
How he still has a job @ SMC, I dunno? Do not take econ with him. He is a bad teacher who doesn't explain the subject well. Gave two tests that were hard as hell. If you see his name on the schedule of courses, stay far far away. You have been warned.
do not take him...he is the worst teacher ever. he talks as if he knows his stuff, but he doesnt. not helpful at all. the worst ever...gosh i hate him! i dont understand why he's still here?
Terrible, Terrible, Professor. Probably the worst class and professor I ever had at SMC or anywhere else.
He is the worest teacher that i ever have before.HE won't teach you all the stuff, and you need to go home and study by yourselves.
If you are Econ major, you must avoid him. I should not have taken both econ1&2 with him. Taking his class would hurt your GPA and admission. Seriously, you will regret if you take him.
Moshiri is really a terrible teacher. He does not have a good grasp of the subject matter, and I think that may explain why he is so stubborn when it comes to giving points on exams: he is insecure & afraid of being exposed as the idiot that he is.
His escarce moments of clarity are overcome by his accents and a major bone to pick with the world. Geez what a boring teacher.
He's a pretty good teacher as long as you are willing to put in the work. Not easy, but definately a good teacher.
he's very hard. he doesnt explain much.dont take him
he's very easy. there're 3 tests & he drops one of the lowest grades, lower the curve to 85% or =A, how easier can it be,right? boring, definitely. i don't think that if you're in Bus and Econ should take him because you don't get the big idea whatsoever.
he is absolutely HARD and MERCILESS. NEVER take this class. u will regret it. VERY BORING BCUZ OF HIS TEACHING STYLE> I love economics, but he made me have such a draggy attitude to twds it. very hard marker. exams r****.
A energetic and superb teacher!Really knows his stuff.Remembers things like voter turnouts & GDP in the past, has a great grasp of economic history. The test was easiest test I ever took. Drops 1 test from the 1st 2 tests & theres only 3 tests. HW assigned every week but answers in back of book.
kind of arrogant;
Econ is already a hard class and this teacher will make you hate it for the rest of your life. Exams are very hard and unclear. Even if you studied your butt off you won't get a good grade. Don't take him unless you want to mess your GPA.
Great Teacher, take class with confidence that you'll get an A+ as of 12/12/04
The best teacher i have every had in my life.Do as he says and getting an A will be very easy.
HE is the worse prof that i never had before. Tests are hard. He cant explain well either. If u take his class be aware that yr GPA will get lower.
THE WORST TEACHING STYLE THAT I'VE EVER LEARNED
always late. collects homework but at the end gives everyone credit. if u have taken econ and remember it take the class but if u have not find another teacher.
Amazing teacher
If you want clarity on all concepts and don't want to ask questions all class long, don't take him. He gives everyone credit for ALL the homework at the end; a take home final; and everyone gets attendance points. He's good if you want the easy grade, not good if you care about the topic.
Run! Avoid him at all costs! He is very argumentative, does not like to interupt the class to answer questions and tests are really hard!
This MF is a very bad prof. He doesn't know how 2 teach. Tests r written 4rm material that is not covered in book & in lectures. He loves giving out F and D's. Don't take.
I DONT KNOW WHY MOST PPLE DIDN'T RATE HIM WELL. HE IS A REALLY NICE TEACHER. HIS LECTURES ARE INTERESTING, HE IS ALWAYS IN A GOOD MOOD AND HIS TESTS ARE NOT DIFFICULT. I GOT AN "A" HIM.
He's a good teacher; sardonic humor. His tests are very easy, study and you'll get an A; work half-assed and you'll get a B, you really have to screw up in a major way to get a c.
The disparity in comments occur from two different types of students. If you need concepts explained in multiple ways and learn primarily through discussion, this may not be the class for you. However, if you enjoy succinct lectures and open your text once a week, it's a great class. His difficulty with basic arithmatic is good comedic relief
easy grader, argumentative, talks alot. he kinda seems a little lost but hes really nice. take good notes. take this class if you are a good note taker, his tests are almost identical to the lecture notes.
Although the classes are not easy, he is helpful if you colaborate with him. He is generous and kind.
He is generous and kind. If you colaborate he will help you get a good grade.
Nice guy, quirky sense of humor. lectures are pretty good, he bounces around alot, but all in all a good teacher. if you dont know english well, could be a little hard to follow. but a good teacher.
If you go to class and take good notes a good grade is easy to come by. For an econ teacher he is the best i have had.
good teacher!before may be he is a bad teacher!
Worst teacher I've ever taken at SMC. Take other teachers instead.
He's very nice but and at the end of semester he will give everybody 10pts extra even if you didnt do the homework at all...but as far as lecturing and test...its pretty difficult, sometimes he can be cool lets you use notes...I wouldn't take take him if you interested or not cause either way his teaching sucks...oh and he tends to arrive late but
I THINK HE'S A GREAT TEACHER. HE'S VERY LINIENT ON HW AND HE BASICALLY TELLS YOU THE QUESTIONS ON THE TESTS. THERE ISN'T REALLY ANY WORK. HE'S FUNNY AND JUST EASY GOING. TAKE HIM, I TOOK HIM FOR ECON 1 AND NOW I'M TAKING HIM FOR ECON 2. I ACTUALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT ECONOMICS IS NOW.
recommnended
2 tests in short semester!study n u will get A!!generous teacher, good for get a good grade!all the test from textbook and do the multiple choice!!
BRILLIANT!!! absolutely BRILLIANT!!!!!! i can easily say that he is the best instructor that i have ever had in my life! i recommend everyone to take his class whether you have any interest in this class or not because at the end of the semester you will leave wearing a big fat smile!
Took this class during winter and got an A. His tests aren't tricky, very straightforward, and he doesn't lecture about anything useless. Likes to get off topic. He's a brilliant professor. He also gives 10% extra credit. You can get out of the class with 110% if you get perfect scores. Do the homework and you'll get an A.
he is the best professor that i ever had if you want to learn take this class
I dont know why some people rated him so low...but if you do the hw, you get 10 points extra credit! And he was generous enough to give EVERYONE 10 points extra credit before our final! And in his class, theres only 100 points, so 10 points is actually 10%...study for the tests, do the hw, and take notes, and you shall receive an A
I'm a masters student currently. I took his class during Summer of 2002. He's one of best teachers I've ever had. He's test was easy(multiple guesses) He spent alot of time explaining how things related to each other
Wait, is everyone kidding? This is one of the easiest classes I've taken at SMC. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable on econ, he breaks it down so it's easy to understand. Homework is EC, no forced discussions or projects. 3 tests, each worth 50 pts. Lowest of first two dropped. Take him for GPA boost and lasting understanding of economics.
most easiest class in SMC. follow his lecture notes and you should be fine. but he doesn't like to answer questions.take this class if you want to boost your gpa. STRONGLY RECOMENDED
Dr. Moshiri was an awesome prof. and inspired me. His passion for economics was evident. I miss his lectures, we always had great fun.
Well this class was long, boring and often times you could see students sleep, tests were the exact same questions from the book, very easy no point in learning the context, just memorize the 50 questions from each chapter. East A, 2 exams and 10% extra Credit homework, he is a bigot who hates the US, and rants about politics, racism, etc. Horrible
The class is easy if you memorize the MCQ's. I learned alot, and he is a nice man! ...theres not much work..just study...100 points possible, and gives 10! You have to work for the other 90 w/ the test! He's very smart!Cool class. Great Job Moshiri!!!=)
I don't understand why students complain about the easy A. Our lives are hard enough as it is; there is no reason why we should struggle for a decent grade in evey class. Dr. Moshiri is probably one of the fairest and most logical teacher among SMC professors. His comments regarding politics etc. are logically developed. I fully recommend him!
Moshiri was rude, ignorant, and uneducated in his worldview. A lot of his personal opinion insults students and he tends to push his worldview on others. Aside from personal problems, the course is an easy one. His exam questions are duplicates from the book so do the multiple choice questions. You should be fine. Good luck.
So brilliant. He really knows Economics like the back of his hand! I strongly recommend everyone to take him--He is a quality instructor and not only that, but it's not at all difficult to get an A. You learn a lot while getting a good grade. :)
I took him in both of econ 1 n 2. He is so nice n kind prof. Test is sooo EASY !!!! trust me !!!!! just do the mulple choice on the text. if you do that, you will get easily A 4 sure!!!! 3 exams (1 lowest will be dropped) n final. HW deserve 10pt. each exams r 50 pt each. EASY TO GET A!!! recommend him so strongly!!!!!! TAKE HIM!!!!
(summer)SMART! HE REALLY KNOWs ECON! THE TEST ARE Q'S RIGHT OUT OF THE BOOK. 50 Q test. gives 10 points at the end. 100 points possible!memorize! his intelligence is like whoa... mind blowing! he gets off topic somtimes but the stuff he talks about is food for thought! hi professor moshiri...you rock!hi hi hi
I don't know what some of these people are talking about. He is an absolutely amazing professor and is quite knowledgable. Tests are straight forward. Take good notes, and you will be fine.
does not treat students equally

HIS ATTITUDE MAKES ME WANT TO PUKE, ONE OF THE WORST PROFFESORS I HAVE EVER HAD. HE IS EASY GRADER BUT HIS ATTITUDE IS ARROGANT!
He seems very knowledgeable, however he seems very scatter brained, and his lecture's aren't very helpful.
I would not recommand him. In fact, he is the worst prof in SMC. Very disorganized and being very rude sometimes. Tests were not easy. He told class he will test on about 4chapters before the test, but he covered 6chapters. What a lier! He did not make any apology to class, instead he blamed us and made us to feel stupid. Again, avoid him
I have taken Professor Shane's Econ 1 course already. His tests are definitely easy. You will have 2 tests, and drop the lowest. All you have to do is just simply go through his lecture notes and you will get high scores. Also, he gives everyone 10% bonus points at last. Test 50%+ Final 50 % + HW 10 %. He's really nice. I definitely recommend him!!
Two test 50% of total grade each. Hard time following lecture, difficult to understand at times...
What a nice teacher.. great grading system. 3 tests drops one of the first two. Definitely recommend for any Business majors or anyone needing a GPA booster. Moshiri you rock!!
In my opinion this is the worst professor EVER. Even with good attendance I was constantly lost. Run if you still can. Otherwise, good luck. He made a lot of errors when he did math that students were constantly correcting. Your grade is based on two tests (one of which he drops) and the final, plus ten points for all the HW combined.
Are you ****ing serious!? Professor Moshiri is the most clear and consistent teacher anyone could ever ask for. He is an unbelievably nice person and is extremely knowledgeable about Economics and life in general. I don't know why people think he's a bad teacher....this was one of the best classes I have taken in all of college. Highly recommended!
i heard his class was super easy and his tests were taken right out of the textbook...but now there are new textbooks and his lectures have NOTHING to do with the tests/online questions. tests were multiple choice but REALLY hard and questions were unclear. nice guy but doesn't like being corrected. 2 tests, drops one of them. not recommended.
not organized whatsoever. i dont even think he was able to tell us what the next test was on. good testing method though. 2 tests ( drops the lowest grade) + 1 final. AND 10 extra credit pts for hw. recommended only if ur able to work on your own at home. lectures were very confusing. and he always let us out early..
***WARNING*** this is a warning to everyone considering taking shane moshiri. Stay away from him!! If you care about your college education, do what you have to to avoid this guy. Arrogant, confused, unorganized, egotistical. He will dislike you if you question him and this will reflect in your grade. most of my class failed...horrible teacher!
He is a good teacher for those of you who understand economics beforehand. He does not help you very much. So, pay attention in class. Most of his questions on the test are from his notes and hws. Textbook is mostly use for homework. If you miss class, he will definitely repeat it either the next day or after it. He is very generous and funny!!!!
I think he can be somewhat funny and nice at times, but he is not compromising at all. He is not organized and I couldn't understand which chapters were on the final. I learned some important things in his class but I also was confused by a lot. The book was even worse. The man can't even add numbers correctly!
Dr.Shane Moshiri is an amazing teacher!Generous, polite,&respectful 2 himself & 2 students...By doin all his hw which won't take more than few minutes of ur time, 10 pts to ur total average are guaranteed which can totally affect and change ur grade towards the better! One exam grade and a final grade! Econ can't be simpler than that!Take his class
Class is based of 100 points. Two tests and a final, he takes the best score of the first two tests. Homework = 10 points extra credit and its very simple, the answers are online. Seems easy, but let me tell you it is not. This guy thinks he knows everything and doesn't really teach, complains about the U.S. Very hard class, no curves.tests HA
Please, if you are an intelligent person, do not listen to that person who spoke falsely about Prof. Moshiri. That was utter defamation...He accused him of nonesense; things the professor never said nor did. If anything, he is a genius; he breathes economics; he is clear and everyone in the class loves him. Its just a shame people are so immature.
It's really too bad that people are saying bad stuff about him 'cause he really is a great teacher. His test are pretty easy. His lectures are interesting and very clear. He is nice and tries to make his class fun. I would definitely recommend him.
I can't understand how anyone would think Mr. Moshiri wasn't clear. I never studied for class, but merely listened to his lecture and it cleared up any confusion from the book. He repeats statements several times that he will be testing on, so there's no guessing. If you listen to him and go to class, pretty simple tasks, you will do well.
Humiliates students who have questions. When asked questions after class for help or for grade so far or any type of question, will say he needs to leave and to stop asking questions. Could not care less if a student passes or fails. Has no extra time for students. Does not hand back homework. Two extremely tough midterms and one cumulative final.
such a good teacher, nice and cares about his stupids also gives extra credit take him!
I had a good impression the 1st week then after its all down hill from there. He dosnt come prepared, dont know what we're reviewing to the point he puts the wrong questions in both mid term test. Very easy to go off topic. I dont know about other but our class was behind every since the 1st test. Just read the book. Class Sessions are useless.
Very knowledgeable and reasonable professor! He explains things so that they are simple and easy to understand. Sure, he's a little unorganized when it comes to where we left off last class but he knows what he's talking about and you'll learn alot! Tests are simple, listen and study and you will get an A
best teacher ever! homework is extra credit. final was super easy.. just pay attention in class and bring your notes EVERYDAY!
He's a pretty cool guy, knows what hes tlking about, he's pretty smart. Either come to class or buy the book&read it thoroughly! or else youre def.not going to get a good grade. Do the HW its simply extra pts!&do study, it helps. He also tends to criticize ?'s so know exactly what you mean before you ask it!
I DON'T GET HOW PEOPLE COULDN'T LIKE HIM. DEFINITELY THE BEST CLASS OF THE DAY. sometimes the class can become mentally exhausting from lots of information but he is a very clear and funny teacher. YOU WOULD BE STUPID NO TO TAKE THIS CLASS
Has a great sense of humor. Very energetic and opinionated. I had no previous experience in microeconomics but he made it interesting. The homework is harder than the tests.
Very biased, does not answer questions - says he will answer them later or they are not relevant. His tests are very hard and does not cover anything in the book or study guide. Take "crystal clear" notes to do well. 2 tests plus 10 points for homework. Drops one test on the final day of class. Not a good teacher at all.
SOO good for micro but not macro he gives the class bonus points at the end and drops the lowest of the 2 tests he gives so basically the class is out of a test and a final. 100 points but u start out with the 10 free ones
Definitely this class is not for bar tenders students, or students want to pass without a single effort. So you do the math. Professor Shane does excellent job in teaching a broad economic subject. Very informative and knowledgeable, his class is cheerful and fun. Very generous in grading. Just do a little effort and you will guarantee a minimum B
This PROFFESSOR IS THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD. Very opinionated, great sense of humor, very helpful and crystal clear. Easy to get along with and very understanding. A challenging class, will take effort to do well. He doesn't tolerate ignorance so watch out :)
Definitely knows his stuff and is enthusiastic about the topic, but is extremely unorganized and can become distracted while teaching. Prepare yourself for a lot of work. He is a great economist but might not be the best prof. in the world.
Very smart man, however he is very arrogant and full of himself and thereby is not very understanding. He thinks he is the only one who can be right and won't even bother listening to you if you have a legit question or concern. He has a tendancy to try to make you feel stupid when in reality he has just too big of an ego to admit he may be wrong.
Pros: Very knowledgeble, take him if you want to learn smth. I took him fall 09 and i am glad i did.Cons: Every single class he was late, even on Final! Every other class he makes fun of GOD, and his exsistence. He should stop doing this, religious is everybody's choice & if you don't believe in smth - dont make fun of it. Other then that - take him
professor shane is such a great teacher and is actually pretty funny. his tests are easy as long as you keep up with the reading and occasionally attend class. he doesnt take attendance and gives 10 extra credit points with your grade. i actually looked forward to going to his class. highly recommended!! you learn so much and its explained clearly
I think Shane Moshiri is a good professor... He does have quite a sarcastic-style humour - but people shouldn't take his outbursts too seriously. It is quite funny to attend class and there is often a discussion about recent economic developments around the world. Not too hard class but you have to study for tests in order to pass them.
I like my Economics class a lot and Shane is a really good professor! He is funny and easy to understand when he gives explanations, he is very enthusiastic about economics. The only thing that keeps Prof. Moshiri from being one of the best is that he has a bit difficulties in understanding and responding to questions. Overall very good though!
I never missed any classes with him. I think he sometimes speaks too quickly. Only people with thick skin can ask him questions. He responds demeaningly, or so it seems. I know I never dared ask him anything. He is not boring though, and with this subject, people like him are the exception. Also, sometimes he goes off on rants, I don't mind, but I could tell others would rather not be there when he does. This is one of the classes it really helps to read ahead.
If you don't like math, this is the class for you. The first day's lecture was really interesting, but then, it became awfully boring because the professor was repetitive and monotonous and I felt like the class lacked a lot of energy. He can't answer questions directly either. In the days I had him, I didn't learn a thing.
Grade inflation, arrogant, rambling, teacher trying to impress students w/tales of life as an academic. Used photocopied "text" that can't be sold back, was not proofed, and poss penned by friend of his. Did not cover material in depth but claimed "qual over quantity!" and excused us min. 30 mins early every day for 41/2 wks of a 6 wk class. Waste.
I took him for econ 1 and 2, got an A in both... SMC is such a joke lol i barely went to class and used all my AP Econ knowledge, destroyed this class got A's on everything its so easy. he's persian and hilarious, the most stubborn person alive though so dont try arguing with him. he gives 7% extra credit to everybody for no reason...awesome.
This was my biggest regret at SMC. Ruined my GPA because he doesn't want to teach. He is rude, arrogant, unethical, and won't help you. If you are great at econ and can learn 100% from the book, ok. Old online codes work, don't let him sell you the book he gets a cut from. Book wasn't proof-read and he pushes it hard, even though it's extra credit
Horrible grader, very off topic. Will not give you benefit of doubt. I deserved a B but got a C.
He's very nice person. His lecture is short, easy to understand and remember eventhough he has some accent but you'll get used to it. You can get an A if you STUDY.
Professor Moshiri is a great teacher. He is very nice and makes class fun. Very fun guy! I highly recommend him over other econ teachers at SMC
He's actually a very nice guy, very smart and knows what he's talking about. Some peeps take him wrong, but he doesn't mean any harm. Thank u mr. Moshiri!
Omg all u people crying about his accent. Get over it, u live in the us, this is how the cooking crumbles around here! And most of the professors at SMC are from different countries, they all have accents! Try listening better. This teach rocks!
Straightforward. Not approachable at all. Use the textbook, study it, go to class and take notes.
pretty good teacher btw does anyone know what chapters his final is today?
great personality which in turn helps out the lecture. econ is hard but he makes it easier to understand. overall he's cool.
Either, you like him or you dislike him, alot. He is very passionate about economics. Dont take this course if you're not serious. The textbook is like $100 and you can't get it anywhere else but the student store. Make sure you read. Class consists of 3 major tests, all equal. Not approachable. Worst teacher I've encountered.
Great professor. Likes hard workers, hates slackers. If you're not serious don't take this class. Econ is difficult, but Moshiri is hilarious. Enjoyed the class, learned a lot, had fun, earned an A.
Goes on tangents regularly which forces him to skip chapters. Sounds okay, right? No, he puts those chapters on the tests anyways. EVEN IF HE SAYS HE WON'T. A large majority of our class got C's or worse because of his clumsy test writing. Also, the book he assigns is written by his friend and is extremely bland and plagued with grammatical errors.
Explains with down to earth easy real life examples.. recommend.
He is the best Professor at Pepperdine. He is very clear in his lectures and expectations. If you study you will get an "A" but you need to put in the work. I would recommend him to anyone who is not lazy. He is a engaging and extremely intelligent. My personal favorite in the Business Program. I learned the most from this professor.
His lectures are mostly unrelated to the exam questions. Overall, not a good teacher in explaining the concept well. In order to get an A, you have to read the textbook diligently, practice the homework, and study. My grade given had been weighed on the midterm and the final which there was no cushion. Take the class at your own discretion.
Avoid at all costs
