very funny, really nice guy, good teacher, i'd vote for him for president!
I hate politics, but he's a pretty good teacher overall, very fun
No Comments
He has a very endearing personality, as well as effective teaching style...and most importantly, few papers to write.
Very good teacher, a lot of classroom discussion, which keeps you attention
Pretty good teacher. Very fun and interesting discussions in class. One of the best classes I have taken.
Good teacher. Always makes class interesting. Knows a lot about his subject. It is too bad not all political science teachers at llc are as good as him. Take Rogers before any other poltical science teacher.

Shane is an awesome teacher! He is really funny and keeps class entertaining. His class is relatively easy, with not a whole lot of homework.
Absolutely the worst instructor I've had here, gives alot of work and papers, we never know what he wants! He is sarcastic, does not explain well, is ALL OVER the place with no direction. Tells you to study for one thing and then gives a test on something completely different, never gives papers or grades back, says one thing, does another!
This professor wasn't helpful at all. The stuff we go over in class are only "examples" of things in the book. I have yet to figure out how they apply. If you want to pass, you must study the book on your own time and phase-out during class, as not to get confused.
the test he gives are not at all what he goes over in class. even if you take notes on your own they are no help to you. everything he says is a bunch of crap. he never e-mails you back and the class is not fun!!!
Very caring, and funny instructor, makes class enjoyable. Let's you use your notes in class on tests and quizzes. I learned most in this class this semester. I am taking him again in the Fall for Am. Gov't you should too
OMG, this was the bomb. The best class ever. He is the best government teacher at LLC. He is so much better than the other that teach government. G Everybody should take him. His class examples inspired me to get into politics. Who would you rather learn government from someone who is an officer holder like Rogers or some lawyer?
I learned more in this class than any other this semester. It was quite enjoyable and Mr. Rogers is very helpful and makes time for all his students. I recommend his classes.
He doesn't really know where his states are on the map but Hes a good teacher, great personality. And hes easy on the eyes!
This class was very boring. He is a nice person, but he is not a very good teacher. To do well on the tests you need to outline the chapters yourself. You may as well not even take notes during his lectures because it won't help.
This was a very good class. He let you use your own notes on the tests and quizzes which helped a lot. He is very nice and helpful as well. I enjoyed this class very much and learned some things I did not know. I recommend him if you take government.
He was the best instructer! Was very helpful, let you use notes on tests and quizzes. The ones who would complain about this teacher must just be so lazy or not care about the class at all.
This instructor was really the best I have had. He was not defensive at all but very helpful. You had to listen carefully and take good notes he always explained things in a very nice way especially if you had questions. I will take him again!
He is a great guy, very funny and nice, his teaching wasn't the best though, his lectiures were great, we talked about all amazing topics just it never really related to the test or text book, really have to read each chapter to pass the test, I would recomended him it is a pleasure to have him in class
Very helpful teacher... Hard to understand at times, but he's willing to help you out if you ever need it.. My class specifically gave him a bunch of crap, and he handled it very well!
Mr. Rogers is a Great instructor who is good at teaching students to think for themselves and not depend totally on him for everything. You have to read the book, and you have to THINK to pass his class. He does not tolerate laziness,or whinnying.I highly recommend him and will take other classes he teaches!
His class was extremely interesting. I always looked forward to the discussions. He is an excellent teacher in that respect. However, discussions had nothing to do with the test. Even reading the book was only halfway helpful. He was very disorganized and almost more like a college student the the students.
Fun class. Discussions were always interesting but never related to the test haha! Sometimes you can push tests back or make homework not count by having a vote in class. He was a good teacher :)
Class discussions were very interesting and informative, he gives examples much the same that are on the exams. Lets you use notes on everything so if you do the work to take notes and participate it is easy and enjoyable. I really liked his teaching methods, his friendly style and his class. I have and would recommend him to others.
This instructor was the coolest! A young guy who is Kind of an Old Soul. Very Intelligent and good at relating things to the subject,Music,Cinema, Art etc. It was a very fun class! If you pay attention you will learn about many subjects including International Relations. I highly Recommend!
Mr. Rogers was one of the best instructors I had he was very fair in his grading and professional and good with the class. He expected a lot of critical thinking and worked with you to help you do your best. If you do the work you learn and get the grade you deserve, but you must attend class and participate to do well, But It was a lot of fun!
Mr. Rogers was so cool and was always happy and got along well with the class,He was a serious teacher and very interesting too. I learned much from him and will take his other classes!
Extremely Intelligent should probably be teaching at Harvard! Always engaging and Interactive! Kept the class interested and gave Great examples that were in Assignments not always easy &Always that reflected critical thinking on tests. If you got an "A" you earned it! I got a "B" and learned A Lot! Taking again for International Relations.
I Really Enjoy this class! The Instructor makes it really interesting and is very kind & helpful! He is very Honest & upfront in class & on assignments and expects the same from students. You know you are in College when you take this class & he treats youlike it! I learned a lot so far and look forward to more & the election assignment.will be fun
No structure to class. Very unoragnized. Has no idea what he has talked about in classes before. No need to go to class because you do not learn anything.
Worst class I have ever taken. Did not learn anything. What he talked about was irrelevant to our tests. No need to come to class because you talked about the same thing every day.
Wonderful Instructor! Friendly & Very interesting! Tests & Quiz are fair and not too difficult and get to use notes! So,If you fail this class it is your own fault!I am taking Mr. Rogers next semester too. Those who don't like him must not do ANY work at all for the class. If you are lazy you will fail any class, Get to use Notes on Test&Quiz Easy!
I have had Mr. Rogers for 2 classes International Relations &American Government,I attend UofI.You do not know how much you learn from him @ the time & really not until the end of his classes, then you realize all of a sudden how much you Learned. He's quite an Amazing teacher 2 pull this off so deftly. He does care about students &learning.Recommend!
I agree! I have Mr. Rogers for State & Local Government now and have enjoyed it very much. I had his American Government class last semester and now know much more than I did before about how politics & government apply to me. I am a nursing major but I found his class very interesting. He does a good job of making it relate to everyone. Take him!
This instructor does not talk about anything relevant to the tests in his class lectures. He just rambles on about his own ideas about issues and then gives out tests that covers book material but not what he talks about in class. For his final study guide he said some topics would have to be googled because theywerent covered in the book or class
Mr. Rogers is a great teacher! Very friendly, easy to talk to, and quite funny. You can use notes on the tests and quizzes, which is very helpful. I recommend taking him!I'm so glad that I did!!
Mr. Rogers was one of the best instructors I've. He gives a clear structure of how the class is set up & if you follow it & it works. take notes you will Lean a lot & get a good grade. He does not read the book to you but encourages you to think for yourself.I liked it because he did not teach like we were in High School. I recommend his classes!
I have Mr. Rogers for International Relations this semester and have had him for his American Government Class in the past. I plan on taking State & Local online or in person with him next semester. He is such a breath of Fresh Air. So many good experiences to share and learn from. It is a treat to go to class! I never thought I would ever say that
Most of what you get in this class is golden, and very valuable. Dr. Rogers allows time for public discussion much which is very good but some no,as is always. However, masterfully weaves it all into a factual story to make the point of lecture or assignment. I would and will take him again for as many classes as he offers in person or online!
Mr. Rogers was a lot of fun and so well informed. I could tell he had worked in the field he was teaching. He was also very good with the students in his class. He cared about their learning the subject but did not expect them to become experts like some. I would take him again and have told others to take his classes.
oops I meant GREAT! & I some how ended up Poor on this damn site. He was Awesome! Take him! I want to again but I'm goin to SIU!
This Man taught me what Politics was REALLY like because He had done it! He was right and even though we did not always agree on politics he was Great and fun and I enjoyed him Much! I will take him again!
This teacher taught me how I played a role in the world even though I am one person I make a difference
I had Mr. Rodgers for 2 classes. Most of the students from his Am. Gov took his International relations. Both were very good classes. He knew how to deal with people. Very friendly but took no guff. He was way ahead of the ones who tried to cut corners, if you came to class you learned a lot.
Mr. Rogers REALLY knows his subject as I was told! He is Very personable & interesting guy seems to have many interests but ties it all into the class which makes it fun. I seem to learn something every time I go 2class if I want 2 or not.If you try & show some interest you will do very well!If you read chapter 4 the quiz then go to class ur fine
I have been in the class for a week and I HATE it. We have discussions in the class that have nothing to do with the quiz. I am someone who doens't comprehend everything I read and that's how you pass the quizzes. He goes over NOTHING in the chapters. And I already feel like I am not benefiting from the class.
Mr. Rogers is very good!He said the 1st day he did NOT only teach 2the test, you must do some work on your own ie. read the chapters & if don't understand then ask/discuss in class. His lectures DO give good examples! I'm glad he does NOT read the book to us that is not college.& he lets us use our notes on quiz&tests.Very good class I recommend him!
I like Mr. Rogers as an instructor. If you pay attention he gives many clues throughout the lectures and activities in class that will help you pass the class quite easily actually, and learn along the way. He has a knack for teaching and is not arrogant about it. He is very helpful if you show any interest in learning at all. I will take him again
I took this class online and in the first week of this semester I received an e-mail from explaining that all the quizzes are posted and are due at the end of the semester There were no notes and no communication with the teacher The only grades were a few quizzes and the only resource was the textbook I am an A student and got a C HE IS AWFUL!
HORRIBLE professor. I've maintained a 4.0 for two and a half semesters easily, and this professor is horrible and unhelpful and I am only earning a C!
This was a Great Class! It was Self paced with no scheduled dates all due @end of semester. Feed back was Always helpFul. You had to take the initiative and show an interest in the course. He treated me like an adult and not a high school student which I personally liked. Enjoyed class &learned a lot I will take him again!
Mr. Rogers was recommended to me by a friend who took him and I enjoyed the is class very much. He gave lot of bonus points if you did the work you earned an Easy A or B grade. It was just that simple. You just have to do the work. He is Also very Helpful! Already signed up for other classes he teaches & look forward to having his class again!
I came into the class not knowing what to expect, not having much interest in politics. However, I just will say I learned more in this class than any other class I have taken this semester. I liked the way he taught us to think. It was not memorization but more practical. I would take him again but I am graduating this semester. Great class!
One of the easiest classes I have ever had. If you just go to class pay attention, participate, and take notes, (he lets you use notes on test & quizzes!) he gives you all the information you need to know or outlines the sections of the book you need to read. You really have to be doing nothing not to earn a B in this class! It is also interesting
Mr. Rogers, is a very nice and funny guy. But, his lectures and lecture notes have NOTHING to do with the quiz/tests. the quizzes and exams are always varying, NEVER consistent. My class average a month ago was a 58! How, as a professor, can he be satisfied with that? He is no help when asking to look over your notes and rarely emails back.
The previous posting is correct in that Mr. Rodgers is a nice guy,I also found him to be very helpful anytime I asked. The lectures were interesting and he encouraged all students to think, work and made class fun. I am taking him again next semester and look forward to it!
This was my favorite Class and not just because I received a good grade.I did well because I worked for it and learned a lot!Mr. Rogers had a unique style that helped me to learn, when I was not sure it would. We had group work but you were graded individually, this was great, because my grade did NOT depend on someone lazy but on my work alone!
He teaches three of the Best classes on campus! If you want to prepare for college take him! He knows what he is talking about and knows the game!
He seems like a nice guy, but the class is impossible. His lectures have nothing to do with the quizzes and tests. Even after asking him for some help I still failed almost every quiz and i am normally a straight A student. According to other he rounds our grades up at the end of the semester, but you get to worry about it until then.
Mr. Rogers is straight forward, always tells you what you need to do well in the class, provides all resources and time anyone needs to get the grade they work for.I am a good student I studied did all the work and I realized I was in college not High School. Mr. Rodgers is very fair and I am quite sure no one receives a grade they do not deserve.
Every quiz is right out of the book,if you read the chapter and take notes,he lets u use on quiz & test u will do fine Just do the work! The class was not difficult and taught me how to be a better student.I realized if I actually studied I received the grade I wanted. He did not teach to the test but gave examples you had to think on your own.
I actually found Prof. Rogers to be right on the mark. I am an International student and was not sure what to expect in this class. I only knew a bit about U.S. politics. I did learn quite a lot and found the instructor to be very fair and helpful. It may be just me but I believe American students have it quite good!
I have had this professor online & in person for all his classes,St&LOC onilne, All classes were Great! I especially enjoyed him in person. He had a unique teaching style that most liked if they liked college. He enjoyed serious students who wanted to learn & knew why they were there, not so much the fly by nights, they dropped.I was glad!it was fun!
I have learned more from this instructor than any this semester. He gave very good lectures and readings. I am finding his class enjoyable, He makes you realize you are capable than more than you think, and I hope to take him again in the Summer and Fall
He seems like a nice guy, but he rambles back and forth without a concise message. This constant jumping back and forth between topics leads to absolute confusion.
By far the easiest online class I have ever taken. If you need this for a program definitely recommend taking this teacher. If you dont need it for a program, I would still recommend it and I hate politics, so thats saying something!
This professor plays it cool but KNOWS what is going on! He ALWAYS knew who gave the effort and did the work and who slacked or even CHEATED! and let it roll until the end. Then told all What you put into it is what you get, as he had said in beginning! I know some who thought they were getting away with something but he actually cares about learn
If you want an easy slack off class, take one of his online classes. He posted maybe 4 or 5 quizzes all semester and that was it. He seemed nice enough, just lazy.
Great professor! Have had three classes with him and would take more.
Shane is one of the best teachers I've had at Lake Land Taking this class during an election year has been quite enjoyable. He knows his history and if anyone is struggling they should just stop by his office as he's there to help. I go to his office hours every day for advice on a project or clarity on homework. I really loved his lectures.
Funny, understanding, He seems to like teaching.
Went from an A to an F in 1 day
Shane was a good instructor, however, I struggled to keep a C in the class. All his quizzes are text based, and the tests were confusing. I personally did not care for the class at all. It was my hardest class that entire semester. He lets you use your notes on tests and quizzes, so take good notes! He makes the class interesting.
Have him look over your notes before the test
All of the quizzes and tests are on Quizlet. Never gave assignments, only quizzes and tests. Have all semester to complete assignments. Easiest class I've ever taken.
Also accessible outside of class! He helped me whenever I asked and was always very professional. I will take his classes again I enjoyed it and learned a lot. Most work was done in class not much homework, and gave a real break at holiday! My friends liked him too!
This class was a complete waste of my time and money. I was expecting that the course cover more on local government in which there wasnt. In this online course you get six quizs and a final exam. I didnt learn anything useful! Further, the questions are text based and the answers will contradict on what you think is right. Wouldnt recommend!
This what is one of the best classes I have taken and I would recommend to others! I learned about state and local government at all levels and how tough a job especially mayors have. It is a good class to help understand what is going on now in the different states cities and communities. The teacher was also very helpful and nice.
The professor is super friendly and knowledgeable, but his classes are terrible. I consistently read every chapter and took 6-7 pages of handwritten notes and still failed almost every test. He takes about 2-3 weeks to respond to emails, but will help you out if you can prove why you should be correct on the quizzes using proof from the book.
We were given no assignments or guidance. The only thing we got were tests labeled "Chapter 1 Test". This was mostly fine until the auto-grade system started marking correct answers as incorrect. I would email him to let him know that it needed to be fixed and it would often be 4 days before I would hear back. Horrible communicator, very stressful
Good guy but very hard to follow in class. Nothing we ever studied out of the book was what he said would be on the tests and quizzes even with open notes. Very disorganized creating a confusing learning atmosphere.
This was one of the best classes I have taken and I also am taking him for his International Politics class which is quite interesting. He is very approachable, helpful and interesting. I learned a lot of how my major applied to government.
The instructor tells you at the beginning of the course how to succeed. If you pay attention just listen you will do very well in his class. He is very helpful,I learned a lot that I did not think I was interested in,There were some group assignments you received an individual grade not a group grade which I liked.I will take this instructor again.
Mr. Rodgers was awesome. His class was actually interesting. He always kept our class active during lectures. He always made sure that everyone who consistently showed up to class was doing well and he always made an effort to help. He was a very easy grader and always found a way to give bonus points. Would, 100% take him again.
Very nice guy, was very funny in class. Class was mainly composed of test grades, we had like two homework assignments and it took the whole semester to put in the grades. Tests were almost impossible because they did not go along with the notes discussed in class. He was very hard to follow because his notes were all over the place.
Mr. Rogers's class was interesting, I learned a lot and found him easy to work with. The class format was also easy to follow, He let you know the first day how the class worked and was helpful along the way. All you had to do were the assignments, and the grade came easy. He made it fun to learn new things. I am taking him this summer
