Super, super nice guy! Highly recommend taking his class. He is very clear and knowledgeable. His exams come straight from his notes. He also gives lots of extra credit. Very helpful and available to his students!
This guy was awesome. He's nice and will do anything to help. His test can be tricky but all and all he's fair.
He may be one of the worst teachers I have ever had. I am a Dietetics major and I LOVE the subject, but he completely bored me and could turn a simple sentence into 3 paragraphs just babbling on! It was like he made things more confusing than they actually were on tests and assignments. Not a hard teacher, but I would never recommend him!
boring, long winded, too many slides! he will not provide full powerpoint notes so you must attend class or sit with someone who can help fill in the blanks. get a study group and read notes daily. His tests are tricky and he does that intentionally. Class average was always low on exams... i wonder why?
He was the worst teacher I've had at twu. Tests are horrible
he is not very helpful ATALL, he is very " it's my way or the highway" like if u asked a question that he did not know the answer he would either tell u it is not relevant or he would say time is not on our side very rudely sometimes.
Super easy. Basically a cliffs notes version of Anat/Phys and Chem. Never opened the book. Attendance counts, and you need it for his handouts.
Very hard to understand what this teacher wants, does not consider the needs of the students and doesnt give enough time for quiz and tests. Very frustrated with the class I took from him
Great professor. He requires a lot of work and need to keep up in reading, if you do you will definitely do well!
SECT take his class. it ll kill your grade. And he gives you in clasd quiz and they are hard. and lecture is super boring. He has passionate on his lecture but he is not good teacher. He doesnt know how to teach. im regreting tht i took him
Take Dr. DiMarco! It seems she is more helpful and approachable. Dr. Juma is very knowledgable, but he doesn't really give you any breaks. He's not very approachable either. Half the questions on his exams are A&B, C&B, or none of the above!
Save your Money and take any other Nutrition class but Juma. He isn't compassionate and will NOT give curves! I did all the extra credit and was so close to a B. The final and final bonus didn't help!
One of the best professors I have had.
Great teacher. The test can have tricky questions, but study the notes and you'll do fine. Quizzes are unannounced but usually pretty easy.
Its possible to get an A in his class but you have to read the book to do well on his tests. His notes will always leave out just enough information so that you can't make an A without reading. He also gives out pop quizzes that are incredibly annoying and lots of busy work. Avoid this teacher and the headache that goes with his class!
PLEASE do not take him unless you are extremely good in nutrition. He teaches the class like it's super easy, but then the test is ridiculously hard. This class is literally like another science class. The random pop quizzes were so annoying, and the tests were all mult choice but crazy hard. I recommend taking this at a community college
Not a fan of this class. Loved the material just not how Dr. Juma ran the class. Quizzes were insane. Consider yourself luck to make a C on them. Reason - too many questions (short answer/essay) with not enough time to answer them. Go over the time limit? then expect a 1 point reduction for every minute. Ridiculous amount of busy work too.
HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. All he does is talk all day. We were always behind other NFS classes. Then at the end of the semester he tried to rush and get done. I had no interest in his class what so ever. There is a quiz given once a week. I would suggest taking it online. He uses powerpoints and you fill in the blanks on your sheet in class.
All Juma does is talk. He is boring and useless. I dread going to class because it is so boring and I learn nothing. He repeats himself and easily spends 10+ minutes on one slide. We are two chapters behind in class and we are quizzed based of the readingsthat are way ahead of what we are doing in class. DO NOT TAKE JUMA!!!
super hard class and super difficult teacher. i did not like him or his way with the class.
i liked him
Juma likes to talk.. A LOT. We got way off schedule because he would spend so long on one slide and then he wouldn't take questions because we were running behind. We didn't even get to the last 2 chapters. Despite that, quizzes are easy, online homework is easy, but exams are difficult. You have to read.
He doesn't care how much you put in, if you don't know the material and the material he makes up in his head, you will not pass this course. This professor is the absolute worst. Be prepared to read and question his poor ability at writing testquiz questions
Dr. Juma makes grading criteria and test expectations crystal clear, but he mostly discusses them in class. He is very personable which makes his lectures all the more worth listening to. On a different note, he likes to have students with the highest test grades stand up for public recognition.
If you don't read the required material then you will get lost and fail. Period. This is a Nutritional Food SCIENCES coursenot a personal wellness class. You'll learn every metabolic process and aspect of the enteric system. Pre-reqs include chemistry or A&P. Love the lectures which are not reviews of the reading, but supplement to enrich them.
You need to know your material well before appearing for the exam. You need to read your textbook and the class notes too. Memorize your diagrams, cycles etc. he expects to fill in the blanks in the diagrams. His questions on the test are application based which makes sense. I have scored consistently well and he is very very helpful.
You need to know your material well for the exam. Read your textbook thoroughly and the class notes too. Memorize your diagrams, metabolic cycles which are in the notes and book. He expects to fill in the diagrams on the exam. His questions on the test are application. I have scored consistent A's and he is very helpful.
Getting an A in his Intro to Nutrition class is NOT difficult at all! He gives you plenty of opportunities to earn extra points in the class and offers a session to review your assignments before submission. The in-class (after lecture) quizzes are not difficult at all. Also, I also only studied the ppts and still did very well on the tests.
Honestly? He was one of the worst professors I ever had. Ended up going to a different school to obtain my masters in nutrition just so I wouldn't have to interact with him. If you take his class, please know other people out there feel for you. The man acts like he doesn't even like teaching and is only there to fund his research topics.
Great teacher, explains the PowerPoint in detail. Study, come to class and don't forget to do your online assignments and chapter quizzes and you will do fine.
The lectures are very very boring. He is very slow on the powerpoints which causes him to rush at the end. He will try to start a new chapter 2 minutes before class ends. His tests are hard because there is too much material. He offers a lot of points from homework/quizzes which will help you out a lot but be prepared to be bored.
Professor Juma is very clear on his expectations of you from the very beginning of the course. He is fair and consistent. There are pop quizzes on occasion which just means you should attend class. If you work for it, an A is definitely possible. Great class, Awesome teacher! Good Luck to anyone who enrolls in his class!
Dr. Juma is one of the best professors I've ever had. His lectures are intriguing and he knows how to explain information very well. His tests are simple if you study the powerpoints. Pay attention to what he indicates will be on the test during lectures. Occasionally there's in class quizzes at the end and they cover the material learned that day.
Dr. Juma's class consists of intriguing lectures, online activities (easy points that add up), two projects (not difficult at all), in-class quizzes, and tests. You're guaranteed an A on tests if you study the powerpoints and pay attention to what he indicates will be on the tests during lectures. Amazing professor, would take him again and again.
Very slow with his lectures. The course was suppose to be 12-13 chapters and we made if through chapter 11. He gives you the power points he lectures from but adds additional information that is on tests so I recommended not skipping. A LOT of short quizzes online via blackboard and through online textbook. Overall an interesting course.
He's an okay professor it's just a lot of information being thrown to you all at once. READ READ READ!! That's what really got me on his test and quizzes, you really have to read for this class.
He is very specific on what he will want you to know for the test. Make sure you read! Study the PowerPoints because those will be the main things he will ask on the tests, especially the fill in the blank and matching he does together in class. Hes really nice as long as you dont ask stupid questions or ask stuff hes repeated multiple times.
I used to have insomnia, but I then was put to sleep by Dr. Juma's lectures. His jokes during the lectures got on my nerves.
There's usually 3-4 assignments due every Sunday night. The exams are very detailed and his lectures are not. Goes off topic. Can never finish a lecture. Spends a long time on slides. The exam probably looks like the book but if you just go off of the lecture and notes you won't get an A on the exams. Comprehensive Final
Combo reg/honors class. Attendance optional but is recorded for bonus points - you could check in online without being in class. Juma is very boring, busy. Emphasizes every point which gave me a headache from volume. He mentions when there are in-class quizzes and sometimes gives the answers. HONORS project easy but last minute. CENGAGE SUCKS!
Dr Juma is very boring and just drags on and on about things . Takes a long time just to finish a chapter that you end up behind for the final . 3 exams and a final . There is a diet and wellness assignment that adds to your points along with a bonus quiz before each exam .
Avoid!!! He's really boring and on top of all that he's really rude. Doesn't answers questions directly either. Get ready to read!
Dr. Juma lecture lack clear direction, and are very disorganized. He often goes off topic, and this results in being far behind on test material for which you are to know. He is very rude, and dismissive of you. Overall lectures very disorganized, homework is easy but is not reflective of test material , and the exams are extremely difficult.
Advanced Micro is already some tough material but he takes it to a whole other level that I dont even think Im retaining info. Illustrations + in depth detail on exams. Pop quizzes are easier than what he puts on exams. Biggest tip is to find a way to keep the vitamins separate. Color coding each vitamin helped me. Memorize basically everything.
Just get ready to read, read, read. He doesn't allow to to ask questions in his class so when I asked him after class he made me feel dumb. He is very rude. I would avoid at all costs!!!
Took his class for two weeks and I had to drop because I could not stand his voice! He says UH or UHM so much it was driving me insane! Could not focus on content at all and seemed very disorganized and frequently went off topic for extended periods of time. Also couldn't focus due to how boring he was.
He is an alright teacher, he's lecture is pretty boring and u may fall sleepy. Cengage helps a lot make sure to get 100s on all of them because he's grading scale is point-based. He talks ALOT and will go off-topic. If u want an A in the class make sure to get 85+ on all he's exams. GOODLUCK!
One of the rudest teachers teaching at TWU. His lectures are long and boring and he also gives pop quizzes. He makes you feel dumb when you ask him a question in the middle of class. Don't take!!!!
He does not give a lot of time on the exams and did not give extra credit. The homework assignments were easy including the project and discussion boards. You have study the online textbook and powerpoints to do well on the exams.
There's a lot of reading and assignments but the work isn't hard at all. As long as you're on top of the material, you can easily pass this course with an A or B. His tests are more based on his lectures as quizzes are based on the textbook, just FYI. TAKE HIM ONLINE, NOT IN PERSON.
Very limited time on tests, no extra credit and most of the tests were from his lecture whereas quizzes are based off the textbook. Lots of reading and there's usually 3-4 assignments due every Sunday night. Comprehensive Final. Point-Based Grading.
Little bit of EC. Lectures can be monotonous, but not a terrible class. Just do the readings (which are super easy to follow), assignments, look over ppts and you will be good! Kahoot after every chapter covered. Mixed feelings overall about the professor, but it was an easy A for me esp. after taking bio. You got this!
Dr. Juma's lectures were very boring and hard to focus on. Most of the material discussed in class was off topic and not what was covered on the exams. Cengage quizzes and assignments were pretty easy, but the exams were challenging and he did not give nearly enough time to complete each question.
I really loved Dr. Juma's class. 4 exams including the final. My class was a hybrid with 1 day online and 1 in person. He had a few discussion boards and all the hw was on Cengage MindTap. He has clear grading criteria that he explains on day 1. TA's are available for help so just follow directions and you'll be okay! Dr. Juma is a solid choice!
He is very smart and he knows what he is talking about. But he doesn't realize that he is teaching intro level! he gets upset when you don't grasp concepts, he talks about SO many points so fast to where I couldn't remember much, and don't bother to raise your hand and answer/ask a question, he will make you feel dumb. easy hw, hard exams.
Hes a mediocre professor at best, he expects you to know some of the terms when this is an intro course, so it can be difficult at times. His exams revolve more around lecture and the cengage assignments are more textbook heavy. HINT: Quizlet is your best friend.
You must be able to dedicate a lot of time to study for this class! There is not a lot of homework/ assignments but there is weekly quizzes that are NOT multiple choice. Most of the questions are fill in the blank and short answer. His exams are also hard but there are more multiple choice questions on exams. He proctors everything just fyi.
Worse experience ever! This course was test based and I felt completely cheated out of learning. He had NO discussion boards, NO homework. Only 2 assignments and he graded it really heavy. When I asked for help he did not do much to help me; he seemed like he did not really care. I wish there was another professor to take for this course.
Run far far away. 2 case studies, 2 exams, a comprehensive final, and fill in the blank proctored timed quizzes. If you ask for help he pretty much laughs in your face. Student's deserve better. This class should be taken by itself. I've never felt like such a failure, until I took this class.
You will definitely need your textbook for this class. I got an A because I read the textbook on my own. But his lectures are not the best. There are better videos on youtube if you need the extra help. Be sure to clear your schedule for exam days, because he will not reschedule. He's pretty rude in his response to emails you send him, so beware.
This professor is one of the rudest professors i've ever met. I emailed him multiple times about certain things and he always responded as if my question was stupid. Stay away from him if possible, the class was pretty easy but if you want a teacher that actually is helpful I'd find someone else.
4 difficult exams, proctored. Easy HW. Rude on emails. Recorded lectures are pretty boring & monotone.
Nutrition is a pretty interesting subject and the lectures would be great if this weren't an intro class. He expects us to know terms that we have never heard before and gets frustrated and rude if we don't know something he hasn't even taught us yet. And when we ask questions he gets upset and makes us feel dumb. It doesn't feel like he cares.
This is an awful professor. He doesnt want to answer your questions and he expects you to know things you arent taught. When you dont know those things, he will ridicule you and make you feel dumb. He makes hurtful comments and he does not have your best interests in mind.
This professor does not prepare you for tests. In my online class, he wouldn't even have lectures, just assigned homework and discussions, which sounds easy until you have to take the test. They are proctored true/false fill in the blank, short answer, and multiple choice. He doesn't teach it is a self-taught class, with extremely hard tests.
He is a good professor but he will not hold your hand. Any technical problems you have is on you. Make sure you read your book and pay attention to lecture as your test will consist of book and lecture content. Try to find the class interesting because it will make it easier to study. Good Luck!
Horrible instructor, extremely rude! Every individual I speak with outside his class says the same thing. Dry lectures, no reviews, and test are extremely lengthy and hard. I wish students had the option to pick a different instructor for this course.
DO NOT have him as a professor if you want to pass this class. For an intro class he makes it extremely difficult. The homework was easy, the exams were extremely hard only because he does not know how to teach! He is very disrespectful and rude in his emails. He gave me a hard time when I was in a situation that I had no control over.
STUDENTS BEWARE! I personally feel I have to warn people. He is one of the few professors at TWU that should not be in the education field, not only does he not care about students, but showing up to his lectures is pointless. He reads directly from the slides, hes extremely condescending. His tests are nothing like what he goes over.
I think many people say they don't like this professor, and that's because he doesn't hold your hand like some other professors do. He is preparing us for our real jobs, and real problems. It's simple. Everything he goes over in the PowerPoints is exactly what is on the exam.
He is a overall good professor, gives good lectures and isn't very difficult. All test are proctored and timed. Doesn't give any extensions on assignments or tests. But overall all his assignments are pretty self explanatory and easy.
He wasn't as bad as people on here made him seem. Like a lot of people on here said, he won't hold your hand. Turn in assignments on time. There is no second chances to make-up. Take the time to study and you should make an A.
Professor Juma has great lectures and expands to what information is on the powerpoints. The homework is timed and does allow for retakes. Exams are proctored through HonorLock, and the final exam is cumulative.
Exams are 50% of your grade, and I found them difficult. I'm hoping I pass this class and won't have to retake it.
Attendance is important in this class. However, even with proof of an excused absence he does not fix your attendance. I had problems with him about my absences that should have been excused but he didn't excuse it. He is not understanding with your situations. This class is reading heavy or else you won't pass.
Intro to Nutrition was a great, easy, informative class. I took this over the summer at the same time as Microbiology and A&P, and it was the only class I did not have to spend a huge amount of time on. You will do well in the class if you watch the lectures. Mindtap could be useful, but you don't really have to read.
Every Sunday there's four assignments due but you have a week to complete them and they are fairly easy. There's 3 exams, they are hard so you have to study. Final exam is 100+ questions. You have to study a decent amount for this class. Just do the work and you'll pass. I wouldn't take him again though, very lecture heavy. Proctored exams beware!
Relies heavily on lectures. Make sure you are attentive to what he says because he gives hints on potential test questions. I suggest being ahead of the reading to process the lecture efficiently. His online tests require honorlock. Studying is crucial for this course. The bad ratings may seem intimidating, but he is an overall solid professor.
Professor Juma does not like to waste time in class. He starts his lectures right away and expects his students to be ready and focused. Pay attention and take detailed notes during his lectures! He tends to explain larger concepts in a more simple/bite sized manor. Most of what he says in class is on his tests, so pay attention. Best of Luck!
Professor Juma may seem intimidating at first, but after taking his class, I learned that he is very specific and thorough in what he looks for regarding assignments. He fixates on certain topics and talks for a long time, but as long as you pay attention to his lectures, you will do good, because the tests are based on the lectures & PPT.
Do not take Juma. He truly is rude and condescending. I needed 2 more point out of the 1000 points to have an A in the class. I messaged him about it and he said there was nothing he could do in the worlds rudest message. He goes on and on during lectures and calls people out to answer questions. Do not take Juma!!!
Dr. Juma is very passionate about nutrition, so he gets carried away during lecture, meaning textbook reading is a must. Attendance isn't mandatory, but go to class - he offers over 100 points for in-class activities. Rubrics for assignments aren't very clear. Homework is very beneficial for studying and grades. Overall, a decent professor.
Says “mmm k” after every sentence, it's actually annoying.
very knowledgeable but if you have trouble focusing during long lectures, this is not for you. attendance isn't mandatory, but you are at risk of missing extra credit points that will boost your grade a lot. reach out if you need help, he's very thorough with explaining. online tests using lockdown browser
Took this online and let me tell you; he is extremely snarky towards my classmates through email, and when I accidentally missed an assignment due to extreme circumstances in my life, he showed 0 empathy. However, he is fair with his grading in the sense that there is a ton of extra credit opportunities. Overall don't suggest you take him.
You can tell that he really cares about what he's teaching. The class was a little bit intimidating at first, but you really just have to pay attention during lecture and take good notes. He is a nice guy, he keeps lecture interesting.
I would not retake Dr.Jumas's class. I asked him a question about a case study and got a very snarky remark. I also missed a due date for the original my diet analysis due to going to the ER the night it was due. He told me it was my own fault and provided no support. He should not be in education due to his poor attitude.
If you're taking Nutrition, be prepared to spend money on the textbook he has little to no empathy if you don't have it. Make sure to study for the exams; they're easy to understand and take, but taking notes can be a lot. He also tends to repeat himself often, so be ready for that. Good luck!
Expect pettiness with grading, question responses, and an overall negative attitude towards students. He didn't offer much help and is very unapologetic towards issues with Honorlock and Canvas overall. Better luck going straight to the TAs for the class (much nicer and more understanding, though he gets the "final say" with grading and such).
The class is somewhat manageable, you just need to ensure you do the readings, if not the reading then come to the lectures, or find some way to study. the homwork assignments per week vary but it is around 3-4 assignments due by sunday. the tests are what got me. no notes or anything allowed
He's very petty but read the slides and pray.
This class wasn't that bad (unpopular opinion). Don't wait until the last minute to study for exams and you're set. Homework is straightforward and easy. He can be a little passive aggressive but nothing too serious!
He is petty, prepare to beg him for a lot, he does give extra credit, which is good, but I actually wanted to crash out. I do say take it online and read the slides a lot, and every small detail, and he can be helpful sometimes, but other times he isn't helpful. Pray you catch him on a good day.
If you're not religious pick a religion and pray because you will cry. This class had me praying to God. I still passed however.
If you WATCH the lectures and take NOTES, you'll pass the tests. Lowest score I got was 72 bc I forgot and rushed watching the lectures but my highest was 98. I never read the textbook; never had to reach out to him. I was in a groupme and typically people who complained about him put in no effort to the class and failed the exams. TAKE ONLINE PLS!
Don't take if you have a life outside of just school. Way too much homework assigned each week. Spent $100 on the textbook (trust me I tried to get it for lower). Exams matter more than homework despite us getting so much of it. Bright side: extra credit sometimes.
If you do not like sitting in very lengthy lectures, do not take his class. Lots of slides every single class, but he explains it very well. Good amount of homework but they are comparable to the tests and good practice. He says to rewatch his lectures to study, this improved my test grades tremendously. Honorlock used on test, about 80 question ea
Took this instructor online for intro to nutrition, was very easy. Just a bunch of modules on Pearson that you have to do every week except for exam weeks, discussion boards every other week, and small projects here and there. Not hard at all, and he also sends out a weekly summary of what you have to do. Exams are not too hard, lockdown browser.
He really loves what he teaches. It was very clear to me that he was passionate and very knowledgble about nutrition and food science. Their was SO much homework for this class but after a few weeks I adjusted fine to it.
There are many weekly assignments in Pearson, plus a few easy discussion boards. The exams, however, are very difficult and often cover material not included in the Pearson readings, lectures, or assignments. She is also very strict with deadlines, so make sure to read all due dates carefully.
Despite the other bad ratings I was scared to take his class but he is actually a pretty great professor. His class is not hard, material can be confusing but he really tries to help students understand the information. He reads power points but actually teaches the information. His textbook/ homework material is online and EXPENSIVE.
Take him online, easiest class ever.
