If you skip a class, you will miss alot of information that she goes over during her lectures. If you pay attention in class, ask questions for clarifications, read the book and do the questions in the book(optional but HIGHLY recom), attend the SI session, you can for sure get an A. Most of the students in my class just did not put in the work.
Well versed in all aspects of Biology and she is very helpful when you reach out to her. You need to stay on-top of the readings, hand-outs, and homework to do well. The tests make your critically think and use the required lecture material in outside the box ways. This was not an easy A, but if you put in the work, you will for sure get an A/B.
Although she is a nice teacher, I thought I loved biology until I got to this class. She makes you think critically when it comes to her tests which means you HAVE to know the material. Don't Skip. She uses the questions she posts in her power points and practice exam she goes over in class IN HER CLASS. Study those and you'll make a solid A or B.
Try to take her class in the afternoon or a time that you are energized. Most of the time her lectures are just her going over powerpoints that she uploads online. Sometimes her accent makes her a bit hard to understand, but that doesn't dismiss the fact that she knows what she's talking about. If you skip a lot, it's just extra work on you.
Tough tests and tough grader. You must know and understand the material thoroughly or you will not do well on tests. Tests plus the final exam are 85% of your final grade. Not much homework, and willing to meet and work with you on any subject you are struggling with.
Dr.S is a really nice professor, never cranky or rude. She goes through a lot of material every class period so be sure to attend. You need to thoroughly understand the material to excel in the class. Gives out study material and practice questions.
This was my first college class, and I was not expecting this. I came to UNCC as a bio major, and after taking this class, I switched majors. Her teaching style is basically to read the powerpoint out loud. The textbook cost $300.00, but she uploads all the notes you could need onto Canvas, so it was $300.00 down the drain. Hated this class.
I had Dr. Somayaji for Biology 2120. She is lecture heavy but helps you actually understand the material. Most class periods are all lectures, some have small class activities that count as a a grade - if you miss class, you miss the assignment. Only homework was on Mastering Biology, all due at the end of the semester.
This class was more difficult than others because it is lecture heavy and covered a lot of material in one lecture. Sometimes when flipping through PowerPoints she would flip through them so fast it would become unclear. Tests are tough, critical thinking questions, concepts and some questions come straight from points explained in lecture.
As long as you show up to every class, study hard for practicals, and do the writing assignments, you'll at least make a B!
Your grade is based off of 4 exams, an online mastering biology homework for each chapter, and a few in class projects. As long as you do your assignments and study, you'll pass. She always gives extra credit on tests, including the final. All of the test material comes from her lectures and the powerpoints, so there is no need to buy the textbook.
Professor Somayaji is an amazing Bio professor. I transferred to UNCC from USC after previously failing this course, and I have maintained an A in her class all semester. Provides amazing study material, all power points, and practice quizzes. Possibility for 2 bonus points every exam just by taking a survey. She is very kind, even knows names!
Dr. Somayaji is an amazing Bio professor. Her lectures help make sense of the textbook material. Homework and reading grades are easy 100's & the amount of studying needed to pass exams is minimal. She uses poll everywhere for an attendance grade. She provides plenty of resources for preparing for exams like study guides and practice quizzes.
Dr. Somayaji is AMAZING!!! Very easy to access when you need help and gives great resources. Also, always makes sure that you feel prepared for tests/final exams because she gives many resources. Her preceptors made really good kahoots that she allowed us to access to review. She is also such a sweet lady who really wants her students to do well.
This is a very easy A. If you go over study guides, lecture outlines and practice quizzes there is no reason to fail the tests. Lectures are also interesting and Somayaji is extremely nice and sweet. I never emailed her throughout the semester but she knew exactly who I was when she handed back tests. 100% recommend.
Dr. Somayaji is honestly such an amazing teacher! She is very caring, easily accessible, and wants all of her students to pass. She does poll everywhere questions and changes the name frequently (so go to class). This is an easy biology class, you don't really have a reason to fail unless you are simply lazy and don't apply yourself.
Very good protestor. She has a bit of an accent, but it's not too hard to understand her. She has outlines for every lecture, so taking notes is pretty easy. She dies a pretty good job at explaining complicated subjects, too. I would definitely take her again.
Best professor I have ever had. She cares about us learning the material and provides several resources so that we actually understand the topics. The way she teaches makes the material so much easier to learn. She really cares about every single one of her students. There are assignments outside of class but they all help you. Highly recommend!
SHE IS AWESOME, the exams are easy if you study and print the outlines THEY WILL HELP YOU A LOT!! I was afraid to take biology but the online quizzes are easy and the overall course is easy if you make an effort.
Easy A class for someone who has taken biology before. Class is HS review, unless if you haven't taken bio before then it might be lecture heavy and you might have to learn and review a lot. She uses all the different ways of learning, including kinesthetic. Exams somewhat hard, all qs are application problems and require knowing the material.
It can be hard to understand what she says. Often repeats herself but it doesn't make it any easier to understand her. There are probably worse Bio professors out there but if you can take this course with someone else, I would recommend it. Also would recommend taking the lab with this course if you need a lab credit, it makes things way easier.
Dr. Somayaji has been pretty enjoyable. If you pay attention during lectures and follow her outlines, you'll pass. She does Pollev almost every day, so be cautious about your attendance. Some say her accent makes it difficult to understand her, since I sat in the front row I didn't have this problem. Great professor!
Dr. Somayaji was a really good teacher to teach this class. She does a lot of the lectures on the power point and she does daily quizzes on poll everywhere. Also recommend for people to print the lecture outlines as a lot of people in my class didn't and complained about their grades.
Dr. Somayaji is a wonderful professor. I am not a science person, so I was dreading this class. She spent time explaining big concepts and never moved too quickly with the material. She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to be successful. She's a fast grader, a clear cut explainer and an generally nice person. Highly recommend her!
Dr. Somayaji is super nice and she's open to answering all questions. She will explain things 2+ times for those that need it and cater towards all learning styles. Can't wait to have her for BIOL 2120 in the Spring!
Very difficult to understand. frequently posts the wrong notes, putting you behind when you need them, test are much more difficult than they should be based on the work and study guides you are given. She is a nice person and there is opportunity for extra credit, but the class just wasnt good
She is wonderful. The class is pretty easy. Exams aren't hard. Just study over notes and you're good. Attendance is taken with PollEverywhere. A few in-class activities but they aren't hard at all. I don't enjoy Biology but this class made it seem very easy
Best professor ever. She's such a queen, an icon, we have to stan. I didn't pay attention well enough, which is why I didn't get an A. But, if you just study with a group of friends and genuinely pay attention, you'll be fine. She explains concepts well and is very nice when you go to her for office hours, which I recommend.
if you want the A on the test - practice quizzes (literally similar test qs), processes and steps are a must! Each test has 40 questions so missing more than 4 questions would get you a B or less. She puts specific stuff or application questions so know those. Her final is cumulative so study all your past tests. Come to class to participate!
A great professor that was super helpful during office hours. Show up to class because attendance matters, but if you pay attention to the lecture there is no reason you shouldn't pass. Easy A. Study hard before tests because it is a lot of material, but the concepts are not too hard.
She is an amazing professor! I took her last semester for BIOL 2273 and I am currently taking her now for 2274. The material covered in this class is hard (she cant change that) so, many people say shes a tough professor. But she explains it so well and if you are present and actually paying attention, there is no reason you shouldn't make an A!
Hands down the best professor I've had so far at UNCC. She is very kind, intelligent, willing to answer questions, and her material is VERY easy. It's easier than HS biology in my opinion. Just go to her lectures and pay attention, take notes, and study 4-5 hours per exam and you'll absolutely ace it. I want to take her again for BIOL 2273/2274!
Read the textbook and make sure you do the pre-class quizzes and the practice exams. Many exam questions are pulled from the practice exams/PCQs word for word so it is best to study those. Do not procrastinate. Also go to class for her PollEverywhere questions so your grade doesn't plummet. She holds your hand the entire way through and it helps.
Dr. S is an amazing professor. She has a really strong accent but you will get used to it! Take her for entry-level bio, as long as you go to class and go over notes good it will be an easy A
She is a good professor. Honestly, out of the entire department probably one of the best. She is very kind and patient with you. Also, super available outside of class. You do have to study hard. She will give some extras here and there but don't bank on that. You do have to read.
this was the easiest class ive taken! Somayaji is super clear about tests and grades. Shes always reminding of upcoming assignments. Some say her accent is heavy, it really isnt she is incredibly well spoken. if you cant hear sit at the front of class and youll be fine. i would take her again in a heart beat!
Dr. S is a solid Bio professor. She is caring and is willing to help at any time. Textbook for this class was not necessary. Show up and be sure to print out and fill out the lecture outlines. If you memorize and know the concepts from the outlines, you're golden for the tests. Attendance was a grade but I understand why, show up!
Best bio professor Ive had at UNCC! This class is easy because she is such an amazing teacher. Do the reading and follow her guides and you will succeed! She takes the time to get to know her students and is always there to help you! I wish all of my professors were as amazing as she is!
Dr. S is an amazing professor. Just pay attention to the things she pays attention to. Gives tons of feedback and grades quickly. She is easy to contact outside of class and her office hours are very helpful. If you are trying at all you should do okay in this class.
She is the best professor ever. The homework is clear and easy. The textbook is FREE. She is easily accessible, and her HAs were always helpful and available. Her course was easy to do during the pandemic as well. I didn't get an A simply because I didn't really try and missed classes. If you do your best, you'll do well. She also returns work fast
Really good about making sure everyone knows when assignments and quizzes are due. As long as you do the reading, which isn't too much or unreasonable, you'll do great. I'd definitely take another class with her.
Poll-everywhere. As long as you thoroughly study her exam reviews, you will past her test. Always approachable through email. Definitely explains material in a way that is understandable even in a class of over 200 students. Does kahoot. I would take her for all my biology classes if this was an option, lol.
Dr. S really cares for her students. She is always available and provides all resources to be successful. Her tests are pretty difficult but if you take the time to master the content, you will be fine. Do your work; and study.
Dr. S is really nice and definitely wants her students to succeed. She assigns group projects for 5pts but also short surveys about them for an equal 5pts. The tests require Lockdown Browser but are relatively short and stuff you know. The textbook is free!
As long as you have written notes for class, participate, review before the tests and exams, you will be fine for this class. Also just ask her if you need help it is not like she is going to say no.
Anatomy and Physiology is hard no matter what, especially online, but Dr. Somayaji helps her students as much as she can. Lectures are long, but she provides detailed outlines to help guide your notes. Extra credit is offered for each exam. Make sure you take advantage of the practice quizzes and STUDY!!
Dr S. is amazing!! She is so kind and caring and she really wants all of her students to succeed. The textbook is online and her class is very organized. It really is not super hard if you just pay attention in class. The assignments are very straightforward and easy to understand. You have lectures on one day and then group activities the next.
Dr. Somayaji is a wonderful professor, especially if you are just taking this class to satisfy a science elective. The class is very easy, but is intended to be. No tests, just knowledge assessments and a final project that you are guided through. I would recommend this class to anyone who needs some extra credits. Overall wonderful experience.
Test were hard and it was lecture heavy but it's alright as long as you pay attention and maybe get a study group. She is an amazing professor who doesn't require attendance but in person lectures are wayyyy better for your grade.
She is so bad, I want to give her a 0 but thats not possible so I give her a 1. WORST professor I have ever had. So not accommodating especially given the pandemic we are in. TOUGH exams. Just having to reach out to her ruined my day. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES!!!!!!
This class wasn't too hard. All tests were online and open note just one a week. There are textbook chapters to read every week and a lecture to follow along with. The textbook is free so thats a plus. Overall not too bad just a little hard to understand sometimes.
Prof. Somayaji is very organized with this course, course work is pretty repetitional each week; You read the textbook section your focusing on for the week, take a quiz on it, lecture, activity, and an assessment. She gives you recaps after every class if you missed it and provides an outline for note taking. Test are open note, no reason to fail.
Dr. S is far and away my favorite professor in my undergrad career. You can tell she's really interested in what she's teaching, doesn't mandate attendance, and gives a wide variety of assignments. She's exceptionally nice and even remembers her students despite having a couple hundred of them. Highly recommended.
Dr. S knows what she's talking about. A&P2 is memorization heavy, 3 exams and one final, those weigh the most and you have readings and homework assignments. She doesn't take attendance but she will answer back on emails. Her notes are all over the place sometimes and have to read them over a few times before you see that you repeated some stuff.
I loved this class and Dr. Somayaji's lectures. Not only will you learn a lot about biology, but also scientific literacy and note taking. Tests are open note and there isn't a final. I'm grateful this was one of the first classes I took at UNCC because I feel like it made me a better student. I hope I get to take another class with her one day.
She is very good at explaining all the topics being discussed in class. There are poll everywhere questions randomly on days that are taken for grades, and they are worth a good chunk of your grade. The work is honestly minimal with just a background quiz, activity, and assessment at the end of the week. Just go to class and do the work.
Stuck to a very outlined schedule of Tuesday: Lecture and Thursday: Group work. There was a background quiz (10 questions) and a topic assessment (20 questions) every week, but it wasn't bad. Graded work online and no final, but attendance is mandatory on Tuesdays.
This class was fairly easy and Dr. S was very nice and helpful, but make sure you come to class because some assignments are done during class and she also does poll everywhere as a way for attendance.
I loved taking bio with Dr. S! She's really sweet and she made the class a breeze. Completing the lecture outlines that she provided really helped me in this class, and I will say that not showing up can really hurt your grade.
she was super sweet, i highly recommend taking bio with her :) we didn't have a final exam, we had a final project that was broken up into 6 parts throughout the semester. not hard at all! pretty stress free class
Loved Dr. S! She is an amazing teacher and she really cares about her students. I will say even her TA was amazing as well! As long as you do the work you will have an A for sure. It is not hard. Just make sure you do come to class because if you miss, it can hurt your grade!
She is by far the worst professor I have ever had at UNC Charlotte. Doesn't care about her students like others say and you can't understand her very thick Indian accent. She doesn't even have a degree to teach anatomy and yet the school put her as the anatomy professor. She is the only one who teaches it so good luck if you have to take her.
Dr. S was an amazing professor. She is kind and caring. Her lectures were very easy to understand and the course load was great. I highly recommend it!
You can tell she's passionate about the subject and actually wants us to learn. Very encouraging and easy to understand during lectures. Would definitely recommend to all of my friends.
Dr.S is amazing! She is so kind and understanding, she genuinely cares for her students. Lectures are long, but they're very detailed and she is clear about what's going to be tested. Study the outlines and do the practice quizzes, they are so helpful. A lot of material to know, but her exam questions are straightforward and easy to understand
Dr. Somayaji is an amazing professor! She is knowledgeable and passionate about her field of study and does what she can to help students learn and become better students. Class was an easy A. Topic assessments and reading quizzes were open note and there was no final exam, just a guided 6-part project throughout the semester that was really easy.
Thick accent and activities are sometimes unrelated to topic material but showing up to class, paying attention, and engaging in activities will result in a good grade.
Her accent is very heavy... almost to the point where it's hard to pay attention to her lectures. Her exams are very difficult. I went to class almost every day and still ended up with a C. Meh professor.
This course is very easy; I took it to fulfill a gen ed requirement. Class is structured w lecture and then class activity. Not a lot of work load at all. Just study the notes and you will be fine on tests. And Dr. S is very sweet! Not a bio major but if I were, I would take classes w her.
She is clear about what she expects, the tests are just very hard and are a big part of your grade. She is caring though and even with 200 students she will learn your name.
Dr. S is a great teacher who genuinely wants her students to succeed. Anatomy is a hard class but her class is doable. Tests account for 80% of your grade, but you can do well if you study her lecture slides and outline. There's not a lot of homework and doing the practice quizzes is the best way to prepare for her exams.
Honestly I loved Dr. S and her class. She is easy to understand and teaches very good. I would recommend to anyone who takes bio 1101. Also her TA was amazing and helpful!
Dr. S is a great professor. She's very caring and sweet, and will learn your name even in a 150+ person class. The course itself is very fast-paced and information heavy, but she does her best to make it easier. 2274 attendance was mandatory and graded on PollEverywhere (with location on). Do the practice quizzes to study for tests!!!
Theres lots of homework and attendance is required, but the textbook is free and she makes class enjoyable. You can tell she truly cares about her course and her students. Always reachable outside of class.
Dr. S was awesome. Took her pathophysiology class and it was super easy. Expected a 4000 level class to be hard but this was basically a completion grade. No exams, just case studies and a few projects. She is very caring, learns everyone's name, and understands that life happens outside of class. I would certainly take her again!
I took her summer course and it was a lot of information to know in 5 weeks so a lot of effort is required. However, it is definitely possible to pass as she was an awesome professor that wants you to succeed in this course. I recommend focusing on the practice quizzes and on the MypollEV questions on the lecture slides!!
Amazing professor, one of my favorites ive had at UNCC so far. Class is very manageable. The class is broken down with three unit tests, an optional final exam (replaces lowest score), weekly at home reading quizzes through Canvas, in class activities, and attendance (drops a bunch of abesneses). So nice, gives easy to fill out outlines.
Dr. Somayaji is honestly one of the best professors out there. You have four tests; the final is optional and can replace the lowest test grade. You have a lecture one day and do an activity with the lecture's content during the class. Reading quizzes on canvas. You work on a very simple project throughout the semester. Very easy going and funny.
She was nice, however, if you want to get a good grade on the exams you need to reteach yourself with her slides. I recommend reading her slides and using the Kahoots she provides with the module. (DONT just do the Kahoots, it doesn't have everything that will be on the test)
It is obvious she wants her students to succeed! She takes the time to meet with us outside of class to discuss ways we can improve our grades. The exams coincide with her notes and lectures perfectly. Anatomy is a tough course, but feeling like your teacher is on your side makes all the difference. I'm so glad I get to take from her again!
I took her for this semester and she's a good professor, but it's a big workloads to pass this class. She's nice, but she does talk pretty fast and there is a lot of information to know. The exams are tough I'm not gonna lie. The homework assignments usually 30min -1hr long. The labs are easy I passed with an A.
This professor knows what they are talking about. The accent can throw you off at times but overall very good lectures. 10/10 professor.
The professor uses polls everywhere for attendance and participation points. Class is very simple and easy to pass as long as you do the work! The professor takes her time with the students and explains the material very well would recommend it!!
Best Bio teacher, caring, kind, and optional final!
Dr. S was a very nice and caring professor. On Mondays you have lecture and Wednesday's an in class activity that is graded. Only 3 assessments (not difficult) and an optional final. This course covers a LOT on content but it is not hard to get a good grade if you turn things in and attend class! Attendance is graded on poll everywhere. Recommend!
TAKE HERRRR PLSSSSSSS. She is literally the best science professor at Charlotte. Great lectures and fun classes! Her case studies are really interesting and she will give prizes like gift cards!! If you put in the work you should be fine. No final exams or final presentations.
AMAZING! So easy. Never studied. Finished with a 97. 10/10 would recommend. You do have to go to class tho :(
Love this Professor, easy to get along with and her tests were reasonable. If you utilize her practice quizzes and look back over her lecture slides then you should end with a B minimum. I would take her for majority of my Bio classes if I had the choice!
A&P is not easy and is very information-heavy. Dr. S explained everything very well, and notes/review questions were very helpful in preparing for the exams. Study your notes at least every other day! Attend in person as poll-ev's are taken for attendance grades, and it's vital to hear her explanations about the topics if you want to do good!
I love Dr.S! Had her for principles of bio as well, and she structures all her classes somewhat the same. Does pollev every lecture for attendance grade, but doesn't count off points if you get a question wrong. Very intelligent, and you can tell she is passionate about teaching. Her exams are lockdown with multiple choice and 1-3 free responses.
She's a great teacher, very kind, and the classwork is easy to follow. Light homework load outside of class and good study materials provided. Participation is graded on Poll Everywhere, so attendance is important. The textbook is online with pre-class readings.
super nice teacher! Has three exams total in an optional final, which can replace your lowest test grade. She gives kahoots for every exam and the questions on her test are exactly like the kahoots.
Dr. S has 3 exams, and the final exam is optional if you are happy with your grade. She also provides Kahoots for each topic you talk about in class. There is not a lot of work to do outside if you get it done during class. It is a "needy" course compared to my other classes.
Super nice prof, lots of homework to cushion the exam grades. 4 exams + final, the lowest exam will be replaced by the final. There's a lot of information for A&P but she provides extra credit opportunities and a lot of extra resources. She wants to see you succeed!
The "hardest" part about this class is the Scientific Literacy Project (lots of time to complete in class, and she goes over the answers) and the tests. Ngl, just read the bold words in the textbook, skim a little after that, and do the Kahoots, because they're word for word the same. As far as science courses go, this is definitely veeeery light
This class was great and an easy A! Would recommend if you need to fulfill a science credit. The professor related material to everyday situations, especially those in healthcare. Interesting course, make sure to study using Kahoot, outlines and activities. She drops 4 attendance grades which are just Polls Everywhere.
She was so amazing. She was very caring and super nice towards students. Her class was also super easy, as long as you were there and present. If you had a problem, she would ALWAYS go out of her way and help you.
The only reason I didn't get a higher grade in this course was because it took me until the final exam to learn the study methods that worked best for me in this course. Dr. S really cares about her students and wants to see us not only succeed in her class but also in the medical career we pursue. Beware of heavy course material!
Wonderful sweet lady. But the tests are SO hard. Attendance is mandatory. She drops one test grade though
