English is not my major but when I took her class she made it fun and I actually learned some things from her discussions, readings, and feedback. She's really caring and makes you feel comfortable, so you don't worry when you need to talk to her about something. She has office hours and even offers to set up an appointment that would work for you.

I enjoyed Shannon's class thoroughly, she was realistic, practical, and thought rationally. Her lectures flowed fluently with the assigned books and readings, and I learned so much more than just english. My writing skills have improved tremendously taking this class, now I somewhat enjoy writing papers.

Shannon was very flexible with deadlines during the pandemic, she provided many tools to ensure we did well on the assignments. We did not attend scheduled zooms but she offered office hours for one-on-one advice and discussion boards for the class to interact. Amazing teacher, I'm taking another one of her classes next semester!

She is a great teacher, she understands if you have anxiety or personal problems. She doesn't have any zoom meeting and she lets you correct all your assignments. There was no due date or late penalty in any of her assignments. She is a really good teacher to take during COVID. She made things easy and stress free during this time.

I am so happy to be re-taking her for English 4. Her lectures are extremely insightful and thought-provoking. The content is welcoming in terms of helping us understand our place in World Literature, as people of color. She understands that World Literature is very eurocentric and tries to include as many great figures outside of the Western Lit.

When I think of amazing professors I think of professor Herbert. She a very engaging, always responds, very caring professor. You do have a lot to read but they're good reads, and the instructions for everything are always clear, if you don't understand she's very helpful and elaborates more. 10/10 professor

I LOVE Professor Herbert! She cares more about making sure her students learn rather than focusing on grades. We were given two discussion posts per week on such a diverse range on literature. We had a midterm and final that was optional - (but they are just to give feedback on how you like the course). I learned so much - she is one of the best!

love love LOVE Herbert! One of the kindest, most caring professors at SMC. Makes sure her students are learning and progressing along. There is a bit of work, but due dates are lax and she is more than willing to give you a hand. if you need to take ENG2, you need to run to secure her course. I loved the pieces we read in class, as well.

I had an enjoyable experience in Professor Herbert's class! She didn't grade assignments but instead provided feedback on each one. I found this method to be helpful because the pressure of getting a potential "bad score" on a paper or assignment was completely erased in this class. She's very flexible with late assignments as well. Take her!!!

Doesn't care about attendance, doesn't give a grade for any of the assignments until end of the semester where you write a critical reflection arguing what grade you deserved and a research paper about something you are passionate about and an argument, the two assignments determine your grade. If you want an A, find a better teacher.

I felt welcome taking this course. All the assignments are easy to follow, and grading is based on completion. Just simple discussions that you don't need to explain much, and the Final was the best overall. Writing a simple letter on how this course helped us well inspired by many LGBTQ+ authors and poets. I would take this class again.

if you want to actually learn smth and practice writing skills, i would not recommend this class. if you're looking for an easy class to pass and need the credit, then i would! she doesn't take attendance so people stopped attending mid semester and she's very lenient with grading. she is very nice and caring.
