shes a great teacher very helpful and not lazy like some other teachers

Bottom Line: Do not enroll in her class! A waste of time and money, considering that I had to teach myself and others the material! Beware of her lectures, they will put you to sleep! Her exams will crush you, and leave you wondering if you ever learned anything!? Her lack of experience will cost you, your grade. Where's the education in that?
I agree that she is helpful, BUT she doesnt know how to teach or explain the material well!!! Her notes come straight from the book, word for word. So if your book confuses you, so will she! This is a hard class to begin with, I would rather choose a professor that is more knowledgeable.
Great teacher and yes she does gives her lectures by the book but she takes the time to make you understand it better if you ask questions, she does give out objectives to make it helpful for her exams.
Very helpful and approachable. Explains things on a level students are able to understand. Follows the book pretty closely in lecture.
Her lectures are boring! Didnt like her teaching style! Its not enjoyable when a professor plagiarizes straight from the book, using it for lecture notes. Then read out loud what she just wrote on the board. Thats what her whole lecture consisted of. I felt like I needed my book more than her!
I took 223 last semester with Aulner, and recieved a C+. This past Spring semester I took Larson for both lab and lecture(which is the key). I got an A- !!!!
I'm in Shannon's lecture AND lab. I'm borderline A/B right now. Her exams really isn't based on the textbook (which I find a SHAME since we paid A LOT of money for it), it's all in her notes. You HAVE TO attend class regularly in order to pass. If you don't understand it, ask her.. she's really approachable. I'm definitely takin her again for 224.
Larson is a good teacher. fair on grades and easy on grading too. considering that I averaged low Cs on her tests I managed to get a B! she has print outs of notes and tests you on the material on the notes, and nothing else. once you understand how to study for her tests you should be fine.
Great teacher. Very understandable and helpfull. I will take her for my next classes
Classes are not mandatory but if you miss them you are messed up.All of her exams questions are from the lecture. She doesn't really use the the book so being in class is vital. Exams are hard but if you put some time in studying you'll do just fine. Not sure about something? Just ask her. She will explaine it to you over and over again.
Warnig if you plan on taking Larson in hopes of receiving some type of education you will be very much let down. her comprehension of anatomy is non existant and unlike some teacher that have no clue and just read out of the book she'll pull information out of the air that contridicts not only our book but other books, teachers, lab models and cadaver
Take good notes...or better yet, record the lectures. Exam Questions are based off of notes. She's very easy to talk to and is willing to explain if you don't understand. Great Teacher!!! 5 tests plus the final and they aren't easy. Show up to class and and listen and you'll get a good grade.
i like this teacher , she is very helpful, and just remember take notes because her tests are from her lecture
She is a great teacher. She explains the material in a way that anyone could understand. Her tests are on the material she covers in lecture. Her exams are not tricky. Make sure to take good notes. I am taking her again for A & P 224. I would reccomend her lecture to anyone.
She is a great teacher!!! She explains things very well and clarifies anything for you. Just study her notes with the study guide and you will do fine. Her tests are little difficult but if you study you will get an "A" or "B." I highly recommend taking her!!
I took Larson for Bio189 and it was her first time teachin g it and she is awesome!! She makes the class easy for everyone to understand and possible to get a good grade. She is really good at what she does. I didn't even buy the book and I never needed it all of the tests are from lecture. She makes her test easy if you study, take her!!
Pro Larson was great! Test were from lectures, but if you used your text that re-enforced the subject. I will take her for 223/224-made the topic very understandible.
Easy enough, but she will make you feel ridiculous if you have a question. She is visibly annoyed with slower students. Also very disorganized. Don't expect to see your graded tests in a timely fashion, and check every answer, because right ones are often counted wrong.
Well to tell you the truth, she could have wrote the exams better; she would give very good lectures and i would understand them all the way; but when it came to the exams they were written in a way as if you never took the class before. Lecture does not match the exams and quizes; very mono-toned also. And i think she could improve i littled more.
Shannon Larson was awesome! She used PP which were simplified and easy to learn. She related most of the material to our every day lives so we could better understand it. Her tests were straight from her PP and she gave us a study guide for each test. Her grading scale is great too! I definitely recommend her easy A/B!
Very nice lady and knows her stuff. Tests are easier than most other teachers. The only thing is she might lie about the final. Shes told us (and wanted to make it clear) EVERYTHING was on the study guide. When the final came, there were a lot of new questions
I took hicks for one semester and repeated it with larson. Larson is a good teacher. She is easer than hicks but with hicks you will learn more. Hicks notes are more clear and concise. His tests are hard but you will know what to expect. Larson can be a little less clear and its hard to determine what will be on her test. Hope that helps.
I was so scared of this class because everyone talked about how difficult it was. In my opinion it is difficult if you don't read some of the chapters. I recommend recording her lectures. And take notes of everything she writes on the board. Once you know what she covered in class read those sections in the book and then listen to the lectures.
Great teacher. Test based on lectures. Don't need book. Gives out handouts. Tests are easy. Very easy to upset. Sometimes impatient. got an A. taking her for 223.
good teacher which jus scratches the surface of topics. doesn't really go in depth into the material. provides her class w/ a study guide which is very helpful. watch out though prone to lose patience w/ her students over all i got a B
5 exams and a final. No quizzes. I like that every exam covers only 2 chapters and not 4 or 5 chapters. This makes it easier to learn and understand the subject. I will be taking her again for 224.
Shannon is science base! As far as learning anatomy its not in depth and she really reads her power point! Tend to be mono toned, study guides can be tricky, and likes to over stuff you with extra information before the test! There are 5 tests and final! its no walk in the park! You need to at least dedicate 6-8 hours a day!
Will be taking her for 224. You have to get use to the way she teaches. wish she would use better examples. Overall, she is a good teacher. I would recommend her.
Prof.Larson is a cool professor. She gives a study guide of what is expected. No need for the book at all, everything is based off notes. Can get irritated easily, don't expect to chit chat with others in your class.Write what she writes on the board, study it, and you will be just fine. I am going to take her again for 223 and 224 if possible.
This professor knows her stuff. She tests straight from her notes, don't bother buying the book you will NEVER use it. She gives a study guide and tests from the questions on it.WRITE WHAT SHE WRITES.Can get irritated easily, but mostly at people who don't know that you shut up when it is time for class to start. I am taking her again for 223&224.
Bio 224 exams are very difficult. Need to study constantly so the concepts stay in your brain. Very complicated topics such Cardiovascular, Respiratory, and Urinary Systems. Miss Larson makes these subjects easy to understand but the exams really test if you understand the concepts. 5 exams and Comprehensive Final. Good luck!
Shannon ranks as somewhat fair to unfair at times! I Would suggest another anatomy professor if you can! Uses power point and what ever she lectures she reads off of that! As far as tests, shes was not on time and likes to stuff you with extra information before a test, Study guide are rendered useless! Better off typing notes instead!
Shannon Larson is so great. She makes it easy to learn about respiratory system, heart, etc. She uses powerpoint slides, and all exams are exactly what is on the powerslides (study sheet print out). You bring the powerslides to class, and you fill in the answers or notes on the powerslides, and that is what you study. Fantastic.
I would NOT recommend taking her, she doesnt really care for her students just another teacher collecting a pay check. gets annoyed easily, doesn't help you out and only answers question clearly when she's in a good mood, dont catch her when she's in a hurry. point is she is NOT helpful and as far as her quiz there are 5 and a comprehensive final!
I don't know why students complain about her. Her tests are directly from the powerpoints. If you study you'll do fine. I found her studyguides are very useful despite others commented that's useless. I think she is the best 223 professor so far. I'm taking her for 224.
Shannon's tests come from her lecture. It's not tricky at all. You just need to know your stuff. With each powerpoint slide, she explains it. Write down her explanations for each point on the slides. If you can't write that fast, get a recorder. She's extremely helpful and very approachable. I highly recommend her.
Easy class if you take the time to study her lecture power-points. She provides the material that you need for the exam! Since this is a pre-req to many science degree programs, it's important to fully comprehend the material and she makes it possible to do so. Never use the book so don't buy it. Exams come straight from lecture! I received an A :D
Prof Larson is an okay professor. She is helpful in answering questions that you may have. She talks fast, at times it is hard to understand her. Overall the class is hard, and lots of study time needs to be dedicated in order to receive a good grade.
As long as you show up to class you will pass. She gives you all the information you need to know on your exams as well as study guides. I just wish I had her for my lab as well.
took her class over the summer. She doesn't use the book and writes all info on board. She is super into science and teaches very well. As long as you show up and take notes you will do good. Gives study guides and is there if you have questions. I highly recomend her. There is alot of info to take in but she gets it across well
Must show up to class and get every word of her notes. She gives a study guide which is helpful but the test are jammed with questions and ee to know all the details she goes over in class. She has a broad approach to A&P 223 and 224 not as much detail on small aspecs of the subject.
Shannon is a great professor.I had her for lecture and lab. She hands out study guides for each exam. Do the study guides and you should do fine. She has no tolerance for any type of distraction. So beware of that. she is really clear in her expectations. Hard class, but she makes it easier.
She is a good teacher and teaches from her notes and power points. She gives out study guides, but you have to study the entire subject mentioned, not just the one sample question regarding it. It's a hard class and you have to study, but she does what she can to help you.
lab grade D brought lecture grade down to B. first time in 3 semesters @ full time that I did not get the A!This professor is moody, rushed and does not give feedback or tests back in a timely manner!some of the test questions were not even covered in lecture, and she only gives the bare minumum info at lab. Bad teacher and a really bad experience
I will not be taking this professor ever again asking her a question is impossible she ignores students ask questions or call her name when help is needed. Not friendly, she only goes over what she feels that you need to know and thats it I have heard the phrase we have already went over this in lecture so im not going to go over this to many times!
This proffesor was ok. Got a B in this summer coarse which am pretty dissapointed cause I studied hard. She is a bit moody like others mentioned but I would definately re take this professor in the future.
She is a great professor who uses powerpoint slides over the textbook. She even gives you study guides before each exam and the final. If you follow along you will do fine.
larson is by FAR the easiest professor @ CSN, w/ this in mind the subject of course is challenging & u have 2 memorize much info, anywayz of course she doesnt like distraction, who does while their lecturing? i would recc. her in a heartbeat i also had her 4 lab & she was great/ if u study her studyguide you will do good on tests
Not explaining anything, only reading from her power points. We all can read!
Nice teacher, sweet person. Yes, very easily frustrated, because students are rude! She is there to teach us, least we can do is keep quiet and listen!
Had her for lecture and lab for 223, lucked out and got her for both in 224 again. Go to class with your powerpoints, study your study guides, and an A is totally do able. It's a lot of memorizing so you just have to study. Her teaching to easy to follow, just shut up and listen.
Great just follow her notes! She even gives study guides.
Had her for 223 as well. Tough class. Goood instructor and hot.
Some students can be rude thats understanable, but when a student asked a question she just snaped at that student. If a student gives a professor respect the professor should give the same back. This class in intense. Study, study and study. She uses PDF so attendance is very important.
Shannon is splendid teacher. As hard as 223& 224 are, she makes it easy to follow and understand. Very knowledgeable, she always has the answer to any question asked. Helpful to students, very organized, grades fast, no surprises on tests. Very easy to talk to, she cares about her students, and makes learning fun. Smart, kind, brilliant teacher!
She knows when her students are not paying attention (like texting) in class, so you better not ask questions or she'll embarrass you. I have her both for 223 & 224. She's kind and supportive to those she knows that works hard in her class. Very intense class, you better love memorization. I like her a lot.
I have a BA in Lit, have almost completed my MA in Lit Ed. and am working on a BS in Nursing. Professor Larson worked with me beyond class hours until I understood everything that I needed to be comfortable with the content. I recommend her for this class. If you attend lecture and lab with respect and attention she will treat you in kind.
Good lecturer, uses powerpoint, difficult class but everything is explained in detail. Must know the material very well to get good grades, be prepared to syudy and revise a lot!!
Love her teaching method, but there's only so much she can do for you. Put in the work and you will get a good grade. Take detailed notes and if you can, record the lecture. I'm standing at a B right now. I will definitely take Shannon for 224 next semester!
Uses power points and gives study guide on test. Need to study to do well in her class.
The class is easy enough if memorization is your forte. Don't ask her to copy down corrected test questions; she won't let you. Her approachfulness is lacking. If a class where you depend on yourself is what you're looking for, take her.
Uses powerpoints and study guides. Answers all of your questions. Take detailed notes and record the lectures and you won't need the book. Be prepared to study! Lots of memorization!
This teacher is horrible, and I don't know what everyone here is talking about. She just memorizes facts, and if you ask her to go into more detail she can't. I have to wonder where she got her PhD from because they should revoke it. Students need a professor that teaches them not one that can read notes. Take someonethat can actually elaborate
Power point and gives study guides before every test. Tons of info and it is hard. She is not there to hold your hand, but it very approachable if you need help. Had her for 189 as well and her teaching method doesn't change. She is fair, gets the info to you, and sets you up for success with the study guides. Don't be lazy, you have to work.
Very dissapointed. If you don't want to learn about Bio then take her. When she lectures it's like your reading the book.(Confusing)! She memorizes stuff off the book and reads powerpoints. I have to say I was very stressed taking this class. She also doesn't explain concepts if you ask questions and is MOODY.
She talks fast and writes everything on the board, the class will run smoothly if you printthe slides, sit in the front and write what she writes, she also provides study guides which come in handy for the final exam. She is awesome
She was a really great professor, but you have to print off the slides. Shes writes notes on the board, but most of the diagrams are on the slides she provides on Angle. She'll also stay with you after class is you need further explanation of the lecture. I really enjoyed her class.
I had Shannon for 223 & received a B. I was very happy. I am currently taking her again for 224. I love her teaching style. She makes everything crystal clear, but like I've said before, this is a hard class. Take notes, record the lecture, do the crosswords on Angel, and do the study guides. Study! I strongly suggest taking this course by itself.
I took her for 223L and 224 + 224L! She is such a good teacher. She may not be perfect, but she is reasonable & fair! She wants her students to succeed. She uses PowerPoints, and writes all the notes on the board, and gives out study guides for tests! No book or recorder needed for lec! I took her lab too. She made class very enjoyable!
I took Professor Larson for 189 last summer, 223 in the fall, and 224 & 224L in the spring. Upon completing this semester I now have 154 college credit hours. Of those my favorite classes are the three listed above. Professor Larson is a diamond in the rough at CSN and I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend her classes.
All my prior biology classes I had received a B... I earned a D+ in this class.. yikes! This was a really hard class, everything is based off of tests, so if you're not a great test taker than you're screwed. If I had to retake the class, I would try a different professor, but she is nice enough and obviously very smart.
I took both A&P classes with her for a reason. She is totally focused each class providing you with notes and study guides to pass her tests. She bases her tests right off her notes, so memorize them! Cares for her students and will help you. The material is very hard, but she makes it possible to pass this class. Your best chance is with her.
lecture comes off from her notes and not the book. book is only used for resource. Exams were worded funny (youll get use to it). Final exam was easy! :D do the work and study her notes you will pass!
She explains the lessons in layman's term. As long as you listen to her lectures, study the study guides she gives, you're good to get an A. There are no surprises in her tests.
Passed with her. All quizzes are based of study guides. Explains info simply, and only lectures on what she will quiz you. Your best chance is with her! ( Like someone said below )
I took lecture with her. I liked the way she organized the study material. She only tested us on the material that was in her lecture(no need to memorize the whole book). I found her very reasonable and down to earth. Some times she talks too fast and slurs the words, but if you follow her notes and do the study guide, you'll pass.
She only teaches u w/what u need to know. She's not very detailed. Her exams r solely based from her lec. Study all your notes&d study guide&u will pass. Her exams r not 100 Q's. A few wrongs can get you down to a B. The grading for AP classes is already curved but w/her exams being less than 100 Q's defeats the whole purpose of the grading curve.
I failed... Now my gpa is 2.8
Shannon Larson is an EXCELLENT professor. Her powerpoint notes are so organized and helpful. She gives study guides & as long as you can answer those questions you should do more than fine on the test. Every time I asked her a question or wrote her an email she was 100% helpful, nice, & quick to reply. I wish I could take her for BIOL 224. TAKE HER
She's very helpful with the people she wants to,not everyone is able to approach her. She's in a hurry. No use the book at all. If you lucky and she's in a mood of help you she will otherwise you'll be on your own. Good luck taking her without get confused and struggle. I don't know what these people talk about her been good but is Not!
Pro Larson was the worst, least approachable Pro I ever had in my past two years in CSN. Her notes was disorganized, typos all over PP, notes even conflicted with her exams, unclear of the instructions, 2 chapters were not listed in syllabus showed up in her final exam. She said, "Tutors are not good enough to know the right answers of her tests."
I took bio 189 this summer and had no idea what I was walking into. Prof Larson wasn't an easy professor but if you went to class, printed out her power points and studied and studied some more you can pass her class. I think I could have done better if I had not taken Bio 189 during the summer.
She is very organized when it comes to the material and is clear that she doesn't need us to know anything more than what she is teaching us, but it is alot so prepare to study your butt off. Also if you're looking for a 'friendly' professor she is not the one for you she is just straightforward and professional its almost scary to approach her lol.
She is really nice, but her test are super hard if you do not study for them.
This teacher was really hard! She talks a lot in class about the material but always too much information .. I wouldn't take her again. She made this class even harder than it already was. I mean if you wanna be challenged then go ahead, but wanna understand A&P in EARTH FORM, please skip this teacher
This semester was her first time teaching 196, pros, does quizzes and exams off of notes and lectures no surprises, lets you record, and does let you print out her power points before class to take notes. does optional assignments to help out for quiz or exams. cons, tough to grade, tests can be hard, miss class and you can be lost. she's okay
In my opinion, she doesn't know what the real meaning of "teaching" is. Reading off of the powerpoint & memorizing it is her way of lecturing in class. She uses confusing topics and words and when asked for questions, if she likes you, she'll answer. If she doesn't, she will make you look bad in front of the class. Tests are too hard. Skip her!
I loved Professor Larson! Her class is so easy as long as you study her PowerPoints. There are no surprises on her tests if you know them. I probably used my book twice the whole semester. I got A's on all her test, except one. It's a hard class no matter who you take it with but she doesn't make you learn useless things. I'm taking her for 224 !
Very willing to help, patient with questions, fair grader. Answers emails right away. It's not her fault CSN 223 labs are set up to be self-guided--expect to do 99% of the work yourself. Stay the full time in lab and ask questions, take pictures of the models, make flashcards, expect about 15 hours of study per week. Do the work and you'll be fine.
Our first Bio224 exam consists of 96 questions, more than half the class failed. Exams are based on lectures in class. Study guide are not helpful because it is all the marterials from lecture. After the first exam, she starts to post power point notes and study guide very late. Does not return exam next lecture like other professors.
She is a very knowledgeable professor. The class itself is hard. This is my second time and attempting my last third try next semester. Her tests are tricky!!! her study guide helps a little. if you have a job be prepare to sacrifice your time with this class. This class is design for students to learn by themselves! attendance not mandatory.
I took this class with microbiology & I passed (B+) on my first attempt. This class is tough & you do NEED to study 5 days out of the week. Her exams are a bit tricky (spelling) but nothing extreme like most students put out to be. Larson is a professor who is knowledgeable about A&P and if she gives you a handout STUDY it, print her powerpoints.
Tricky professor. Her objective is to make you question yourself on test. Material covered in class barely sets you up for success on the test.
Larson gives great power point notes and takes her time to make sure you have time to write. Power points are very detailed, but some of the basic concepts are hard to grasp without reading the textbook (or watching Crash Course) before class. So go to class prepared, then dedicate a lot of time afterward to studying. Tests are based on powerpoints
I took her class twice failed the first time not because of the instructor but bcuz I was working 35hrs weekly. I took the class again with same teacher bcuz she's the best there is. lectures and provides PWPTs and notes for you to write in. She's very clear and specific on every tests. BIol223 requires TIME to study! I'm taking her for 224.
Professor Larson is very knowledgeable and passionate about biology. She provides slides for her lectures and tests from the slides. One of the best instructors I've had in a long time. She is a no nonsense instructor and straight forward. She is focused on her material and is always direct. She does not BS around the topics. Great instructor.
Loved Prof. Larson! This class was very difficult but her PowerPoints are very detailed! Just study the powerpoints, study the study guides, and do the cross word puzzles for vocabulary and you should do just fine!
Prof. Larson really is a great professor. Gives you extremely detailed powerpoints and explains everything if you don't understand. Just study the study guides, the powerpoints and do the cross word puzzles for vocabulary. I should have studied better for her class. It's my own fault for the bad grade.
Professor Larson is an amazing teacher! Don't miss class & be respectful. She provides powerpoints & study guides. Study them! 5 exams & 1 Final. She provides vocab crosswords to help study. Would love to take her again :)
Shannon is the best among the best in csn, and I am taking her again! I love her passion for bio 223. See you soon in 224
I never bought the text book. Her lectures are based out of power points that you print out and fill out as she speaks. The only thing hard I would say about the class is that its a lot of info you have to memorize. As long as you study the power points you are good. Her exams are right off of her power points. About 70-100 questions on exams.
Hard class to take in the summer , lots of information. She came off very rude at times when you asked simple questions, not quite a people person. She always made the study guide the day right before the exams which was pretty annoying! There was 5 exams including final and there was 5 quizzes on canvas and she dropped your lowest score.
Dry and monotone. Very unapproachable and moody as all get up. She is an ok professor, but if you want someone to take the time, try another.
Prof Larson is fantastic. Professional and great at what she does. I enjoy her class very much. Record lectures to listen again & take good notes, a lot of info fast. Do the crossword puzzles and study guides she posts. Also posts lab resources. Tools help tremendously. She's there if you need her, don't be afraid to approach her or ask questions
Print the packets on canvas and bring to class starting on the first day. She definitely does not try to repeat the terms or make it easy for you to learn new words as all. A recording device is mandatory for passing. "Study guides" do NOT resemble the test in the slightest! Very in depth class, you'll need to make friends and form a study group.
very tough tests. Study guides do not resemble exams. Took her because her exams are more than 50 questions so there is room for errors.. down side to that is there are typically 90 questions and you run out of time answering them. Questions on exams are very tricky. She provides crosswords and study gueieds but they were not helpful.
Professor Larson is hands down the BEST A&P instructor in my opinion. Everything on the exam is from her powerpoints and there's no surprises. There's study guides and crosswords accessible on canvas that helps to me. This class is hard regardless who you take so you just have to study your butt off and you will pass. Textbook? Don't need to buy it
Larson is amazing! She isn't easy, but Bio isn't easy! She's clear and precise in grading and testing. Study guides, powerpoint, lectures go along with her tests. No book required, unless you want extra resources. 80 or so questions on tests, so you can afford a few wrong. Go to lecture and study hard and ask for help if needed.
This has been one of the best instructors I have had. Although she's rather daunting at first. You must not let that bother you. Be serious and she'll be kind and help you out. Now as for the class. It was one of the hardest classes I've ever encountered. Study a lot and understand the notes. The tests are only difficult if you don't study.
Study guides do NOT resemble the test she basically talks the whole class & expects you to remember every word that comes out of her mouth, VERY HARD class to take in the summer :/ some test questions are very tricky... this was my last class for my degree & was the hardest class I have ever taken & the first one I have ever withdrawal from
Just finish the final for Biol189 MAJOR TIP***be very critical intaking notes Book is just used as a reference especially the pictures, not really needed since the power point has them. If you are a slow writer bring a recorder The only thing I was bothered is that sometimes she rushes if she a bit behind schedule
She is a great professor! Her Lectures are pretty straight forward and if your don't understand something she will be happy to repeat it . if you study power point and study guides, quizzes and exams are easy to pass! I will definitely be back for Biology 223.
Boring lectures, but overall she is pretty clear on what she wants you to know and what are you going to get tested. Exams are 80 questions so you can make some errors. I would take her again but if memorizing is not your type of learning don't take her.
She is straight forward and to the point. Don't need the book. Tests are off lectures only. Attendance not mandatory, but just go to class. She gives TONS of extra things on canvas to help you pass, even things for Lab. Study Guides, Crosswords, Practice Tests, Online Quizzes, Lab Images, & Clear Lecture Slides. Take Notes & Study you'll pass.
Professor Larson seems like she is just trying to get out the information and not really worried about you understanding it. When someone did ask questions she answered back but you can tell she was bothered by it. Her study guides do nothing for you. If you have the time to memorize every single word she writes for notes then take her.
I had Larson for 223 and 224. These are hard classes and you are expected to study and learn outside of class too. She is an amazing teacher, she is straight forward about what she expects and will help you during office hours if needed. She gives study guides to help you and only tests you on material she has covered. I would highly recommend her.
Great class. Biology is something you cannot study for and expect a great grade. This requires lots of understanding to do good. If you do not have time to fully study everyday, then do not expect a decent grade. Grade is based on 5 exams and 5 quizzes. She likes to be tricky on tests. What is lectured in class is only on tests, book is ref
If you're trying to find an easy professor or easy way out of this class, you're not going to. EVERY professor makes you work in A&P. Shannon's exam's are straight to the point, and all based off her pp's. Memorize them, connect the big picture, study, you'll get your earned grade. She'll help u if u ask for it, SHE'S NICE, don't let ppl sway u!
I enjoyed her class, it was pretty straight forward. She makes what she wants you to know for exams clear and gives you extra study material for not just lecture but lab as well. The exams are based off her powerpoints but you have to attend class to get all the information. The book isn't necessary but it's helpful when studying.
Nothing but trick question and gotcha moments. No substance to her lectures.
Prof Larson lectures straight off her power points and tests are all info from power points. Crossword puzzles and study guides are SO HELPFUL! I barely cracked the book once and got a 96% for the class. All her tests are very straight forward- no trick questions. Final had like 3 questions that were "What day is today?" type questions! She rocks!
I do not recommend C. Milne cuz hes way too tough. But Larson Is a saint. Bio is hard, but she made it manageable and understandable. Exams are challenging, but doeable. She can be rather rash and aggressive on the outside. But shes really sweet on the inside. And also helpful. Shes honestly one of the best professors I ever had in school.
I do not recommend Larson, she read exactly what is on the slides and write exaclty on the white board. I asked questions and she is not liking to be question, she doesnt explain further the lecture. Test is tough, very different with the lecture. I watched a lot of youtube to understand the lectures. I honestly dont recommend her teaching style.
One of the best instructors here at CSN. I don't agree with some of the comments here. Larson's lecture are literally her exams. No tricky questions! She is just straight to the point. Not like the others who teach unnecessary/heavy lectures. Larson understand that this class is already hard. Students just don't know how to study.
Absolutely love Professor Larson! Definitely not an easy class because she makes you work for you grade but no anatomy class is easy. Everything on the powerpoints are on the exams so STUDY. Exam 3 is her hardest exam. I'm going to take her for 224 because she is that good! TAKE HER!
Larson gives out study guides and numerous other tools for exams to help you do well. No trick questions on exams; very straight forward. I like that she paces herself by writing on the board so you're not scrambling to take notes and you're able to absorb info. Take her! A&P is not easy, work for your grade. STUDY STUDY STUDY!!
I really do like Professor Larson but I learn by the prof expanding on the topics. Her PP has everything you need to know and you really don't have to understand the subject or attend class to get a good grade. Just memorize the tiny details on each slide and recall them on the exam. I didn't really learn much and I feel behind in 224 now.
If you like to just memorize PP literally down to each word and understand it on your own, this is for you. She uses real life scenarios Test to ask questions and will Give you 5 choices all were you cant really do process of elimination. IVE SEEN OTHER prof. Notes & REVIEWS and this puts her 2 shame! U will nvr use the book she encourages not 2.
She is AMAZING. Makes biology understandable and bearable. Seriously she is the best! You dont need the book. Everything is off her powerpoints (which are not too much at all). Study and youll do fine! Wish I had taken her for 223 as well.
Easy class if you just do the work. The labs are easy you just have to read through them really well and make sure your work is right. The worst part was making the figures for the labs, they weren't hard, just tedious.
I took Professor Larson for an online class and she was amazing. Whenever I had a question she would get back to me within a couple of hours of emailing her. She provides useful slides and as long as you read the textbook and study you should pass with an A no problem. I would definitely recommend the online class!
Dont to take her, her exams are overwhelming! 90 questions each exam and her final is comprehensive. Took her class for spring 2020 and the whole virus situation was going on, her online exams were extra harder and overwhelming.
Forget all these other reviews. I retook BIO 223 & 224 at the SAME TIME this semester, both under Professor Larson. She gives out powerpoints & study guides (which correlate exactly to the exam!). BIO is a hard course but just go to class, study PPTs, and you'll be fine. 4 Exams 1 Final. Didn't use the book! If I got A's in both, any student can.
DO NOT TAKE her class!!! she makes the class very boring, does not give examples to remember stuff, all test are super hard and tricky, not caring at all, chapter assignments are hard. Her favorite words are" I don't care and you have to apply it". every test gets harder and harder and the final is a killer (comprehensive test and again tricky)
I had her for both 223 and 224. 223 was definitely a lot easier, but 224 was so difficult! Shannon is amazing and everything on her powerpoints will be on the exam! Make sure you memorize the powerpoints word for word. 224 is no joke but she makes it manageable!
Shes an awesome professor, no books needed, study pp upside down
Take her, shes awesome and sweet outside class. I would take her again If I could :-)
Took her for 223 & I'm taking her for 224 right now. She bases her exams off of her PPts so study them real hard! I had a study buddy & we would ask each other questions off the slides. No mandatory zoom meetings so you can do the notes at your own pace as she posts them & 5 exams w the cumulative final! Not a hard professor but you have to study!
Be prepared to MEMORIZE every single aspect of her power points down to tiny details. I feel like I taught myself this whole class and I still didnt come away with much long term memory of the details. Its memorizing power points vs ACTUALLY understanding the material. She connected no dots. Her lectures were her talking and writing-no explaining
Prof Larson is great!!! You really have to study for your grade which is expected being anatomy and physiology. If you work through the study guides she posts, you can get a great grade.
Dont take her class all she does is reads off definitions and writes them down, and she calls that a lecture! Worst class Ive ever taken. I felt like I didnt learn anything and all I would do is study the PowerPoint and that wasnt enough to retain all that information. Extremely disappointed on how she would respond when a problem came up rude!
Would not recommend this professor. Her lectures consist of her stating very basic, dry information and then you having to watch her write down the exact words she just said which consumes a lot time. Of all the BIO classes I have taken her exams are the hardest and longest. I feel like I wasted my money and will probably be re-taking this class.
I have used Prof. Larson for Biol 223 too. These were both taken online. You do not need to be available during the assigned lecture/lab times of the class. All of the lectures are recorded and watch at your own pace. Write down everything she says in the lecture, this is exactly what you will be tested on. I did not use my book much. TAKE HER!!!
I took the online Lab during the latest pandemic guidelines. I enjoyed her class she was very to the point with her videos with no added filler talk. All of the quizzes and practical's are from her video presentations. If you study hard you will get a good grade. Study everything in her videos twice. I recommend her online class if still avail.
Dr. Larson condenses the material from the textbook in her lectures; this definitely helps with focusing on specific details but everything makes sense. Be ready to memorize every single thing on her slides though. If you do that, you should be fine. Be prepared to take a few days at least before every exam to study. Do not miss any lecture.
she just reads EVERYTHING off the slides and REwrites it on the board. she is obviously not passionate about this subject. its hard to learn about something if your professor doesn't like or doesn't know much about what she teaches. no explanations on the material or no examples that can help teach us more about the subject.
I took her for Bio 223 and it wasn't that bad. I was a little skeptical after reading her reviews but I'm glad I took her class. Just be ready to study and make sure to study her power points! The materials in the exams are all covered in her power points. I'm taking her again for Bio 224.
1 thing. if you want to pass MEMORIZE THE SLIDES. The study guides too. Her lectures are boring but her exams are very direct in what she looks for. ALL of her answers are in the slides so study them. The notes are the same as the slides so vice versa. No tricky stuff. I'd take her again.
I liked Prof Larson. She was very helpful with any questions we had. I will say, compared to my other lab prof, she chooses microscope slides that are tricky. Despite having a full understanding of what to look for, the slides were unnecessarily difficult. Multiple other students felt that way too. She's good other than that one issue.
Uninspired teacher. She doesn't teach you anything. She just gives you the definitions of terms and expects you to memorize it. This doesn't encourage long term learning just short term memory so you can pass the test. She moves super fast through the lecture. If you aren't at class you won't have access to the notes.
She is the best! Her lectures are so well organized and very informative. All her tests are straight forward from her lectures and power point topics. If you don't like drowning in information but need organization, Do YOURSELF a favor and pick Larson!!
I had Professor Larson for 189, 223, and 224 classes! Later my 223 and 224 expired and I had to retake it. I picked her again because she is the best! Her lectures go by so fast and you literally leave with confidence that you have more than enough information to pass her test. She doesn't try and trick you on exams. Her classes fill up fast. Hurry
Easy. 15 assignments (taken through program and have unlimited attempts to get correct), 5 labs (one per unit), & 5 tests. Tests are taken through lockdown browser. Labs are easy and understandable. Can complete them in an hour. No late assignments. I barely studied and I passed (though, wish I studied more because course is interesting).
Very condescending. Claims she doesn't want us to 'drownd' yet she doesn't spend enough time teaching us because she wants us to learn everything by ourselves. Vague when answering questions and will make you feel as if you should already know it. Hypocritical, uninspiring, rude, and disrespectful.
Prof. Larson is the best professor I have ever come in touch with. everything throughout the semester was explained in an understanding way. 5 exams. 11 open book quizzes online. 1 cumulative final. Amazing lectures, I will be taking her for 224 as well. If you can TAKE LARSON!!!
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Her lectures are intense but break things down nicely. She cares about her students and will go out of her way and bend over backwards for you if she knows you care and are ready to put in the work. Not an easy class. If you skip, cut corners and/or procrastinate you probably won't pass. Be prepared to study
I had professor Larson for 223 lecture, she is amazing! Having her in lab was just as great this semester. Any questions I had were always answered quickly. Quiz every class once semester starts, then after that you study and can leave after you've put in about an hour of work! she is great! definitely take her for lecture and lab if you can!
Great Professor! There is an assignment every week which are pretty lengthy but interesting. There are five labs and five exams. The labs are fun but require a lot of reading to understand. Exams are really easy you can use your notes. Overall, the class was fun and she was a great professor. She also responds fast if you need help.
Shannon is the best professor! I know and everyone knows A&P isn't easy subject. But she made much better to understand and learn. I didn't take her 223 only took her 224 class. I wish I had her even 223 :( Make sure you read every single words and memorize on her lectures notes then you will be okay.
I loved Shannon, her lectures were broken down really well. Everything in the lecture slides appeared in the exams. I took 224 with another professor and that professor could not compare to Shannon Larson. Fairly simple test questions on exams. Overall, great professor!
One of the best a&p professors. Book not needed, study her powerpoints, it's what the exam is based on (no tricky questions either). In-class lecture is good, if confuse, ask and she will help you understand. Responds to emails in a timely manner. Has chapter review homework, which is easy and free points (every point matters). Enroll in her class!
Chapter assignments due every week (easy but time consuming). 5 unit exams and 5 labs to go with. They're not the hardest, just read the prompts carefully and make sure you fully understand everything before submitting. She's helpful if you need to ask a question, just ask with enough time to left to submit the work.
Larson is an amazing prof! Exams are directly from her lectures/pptx. Gives study guides that cover the material and breaks it down into more understandable steps. Material posted online in case a class is missed. A and P is a tough class, she makes it easier. Its still on you to learn the material, even the extra stuff she can't fit into class
Simple slides, and 90 question exams but beware she will call you out if you take pictures or not follow her rules, she's nice but the type that's like "ask stupid questions & you'll get stupid answers". Ask her questions about the material but she may/may not give you a smart a.. answer about it; overall she was okay
Hands down the best prof for bio. What I love about her is her tests are exactly like her power points. No surprises. The study guides were also really helpful for studying and memorizing. Her lectures are great, simplifies the info. I reached out to her for help and she was always willing to work with me. I wish more profs were like this.
Larson is a nice person, BUT she structures her class very weird. She stacked 3 exams within the last 4 weeks of class. She throws up a bunch of slides and does NOT explain them whatsoever! Gives you an entire new lecture 2 days before the exam and expects you to retain it. Her exams are a bit complex since it's so much information. Good Luck !
5, 90 question exams, & 100 ques final. For 16 weeks I think this is a very fast pace class. Attendance is a grade and your homework is chapter quizzes, she keeps the 5 highest though. Study her slides throughly, anything she has on her slides will be on the exam. NO BOOK NEEDED! slides are simplified, but overall I would take her again.
The material of A&P2 was difficult, but the tests were fair. Attendance was graded, around 10 points out of 785. When watching the videos, there are some things that she won't write down but will appear on the test. So, have a keen ear for certain things and write it down. I attended her office hours and constantly emailed her. She's the best!
She is unnecessary difficult and wont explain anything in detail the lectures consist of her literally just reading over the slides and you can tell she doesn't want to be there try another professor instead.
Her exams are filled with confusing questions, not sure if it's intentional but it definitely seems like it is to make you pick the wrong answer. She doesn't even have a proper understanding on what a 2nd degree and 3rd degree burn is on the skin is. Her questions about anatomical movements aren't understandable. DO NOT take her for online class.
I took BIO 101 with her, and it was so stressful. The assignments and quizzes were not that bad, but the lab was so much work and so confusing. She doesn't clearly explain the lab. The lab has to be followed step by step from a doc and it's hard to follow and doesn't clearly explain how it's supposed to be done. I was very confused with the labs.
Taking her summer online lecture. Lecture heavy, all she does is read and write over slides with little to no explanation. Her exams are from her lectures, but her questions are often confusing which makes you pick the wrong answer. Canvas doesn't tell you what questions you specifically got incorrect unless you meet with her. Try not to take her.
Professor Larson is clear of expectations at the start of the semester. I would not say she is unfair, but over half of your points needed are determined in the last 2 wks of her summer class, and that felt not great. She also believes everyone is a cheater. I wish she had taken time to post high/low scores after exams and was more communicative.
Larson has tenure to offer and unfortunately not much else. The class is true to the syllabus, there is no extra credit or dropped exams. Lectures are usually around 2 hours per chapter, half of which is just her jotting down the definition she just spoke. I would look elsewhere for A&P, even UNLV, as this class left me burnt out and uninspired.
Gave us 2 exams the final week of class, & we had a lab practical on top of that. Words exam questions poorly. Material could have been spaced out better. Does not reply back to many emails; you are lucky if she replies but that doesn't mean she will answer your question. I'm sure she is a nice person, but I don't think a professor is her calling.
I am hoping to pass with atleast a B. I am taking this over the summer and the exams are your only grade in lecture. I would be cautious with her study guides, make sure you write everything from her slides because sometimes she does ask those on the exam. Anatomy will always be a hard class, but I honestly wish I took a different professor.
I would avoid Larson at all possible costs. The only reason I powered through was because this is my 2nd time taking it. She reads off of her powerpoints, writes definitions, goes on to the next slide. It's very difficult to retain information in that regard. Her lectures could be an hour long and it takes double that to write notes.
Worst teacher have eve had. Her entire class was just her writing definitions on a powerpoint. Her exams are extremely difficult and meant to confuse you on purpose. She basically gives you the material and has you learn it on your own. This class ruined my 4.0 GPA and I put in about 6-10 hours A DAY studying outside of lecture. AVOID HER!!!
Professor Larson's class was challenging, but her clear lectures and focus on exam prep made it manageable. Using unstuck study alongside the slides helped me stay on top of the material.
Professor Larson was great!! I took her for 223 & 224. She teaches everything you can expect on her exams. All of her exams are based off what teaches in lecture/powerpoints, so you do not need the book. For her exams I recommend to try to memorize & understand her powerpoints. This class is very challenging so study, study, study!!
Professor Larson was straight forward. The tests are based on her powerpoints, there is a clear expectation of what your exams are on and no surprises. You just put the time in and study. She was great!
This professor was honestly very rude and it was clear she didn't care about how her students performed. She places a lot of importance on punctuality to the point that if you're even one minute late, you lose attendance points. Her teaching style is essentially copy-paste, making it difficult to grasp the overall concepts.
Confusing exams. She's kind of passive aggressive. Not the worst but not the best. I wouldn't take her again. She doesn't explain much in her lectures. Reads what's already on the slides. If you're a detailed person do not take.
The textbook and unlimited-attempt weekly quizzes are on McGraw-Hill, but the 5 exams are based more on her video lectures. Requires an external webcam for the online exams, but they were easy, and she allowed us to use our notes. The 5 labs were done through Canvas, with simple steps to follow from PDFs. Responded quickly and kindly to emails.
Textbook is not needed at all. Be ready to memorize her slides. You will do perfectly fine if you study her slides. This honestly could be an online class as she pretty much reads off her slides and writes the same thing on the board. She could save so much time and teach more if she stopped writing on the board. Know the slides, get a good grade.
You are better off taking an online class. This teacher does not care if you learn or not. I had her for lab and she teaches nothing. If you ask her a question she is bothered and her email responses are condescending. I know we are responsible for our grades but you are on your own here. Proceed with caution and personally AVOID AT ALL COST!!
