The course consisted of a midterm, a final, and a paper. With a few quizzes sprinkled in. The class is interesting and the exams are not difficult. She really wants you to do well. I would recommend her and would take again!
This class is very easy if you just pay attention in class or review the power points that she gives you. Lectures are pretty boring, but she is funny and makes sure you understand everything. If you want a good grade without much work, take this class!
Definitely take her! She is super nice and class is not difficult if you pay attention and review her powerpoints. Also- don't worry about buying the textbook.
Easiest class I've ever taken. Can miss 5 lectures, don't need to pay attention in class- for the tests, gives a study guide, and as long as you study it and read the powerpoints it is completely do-able. Her lectures can be boring, but wants you to do well and is very helpful.
She is very easy, she tells you when the quizzes are and allows you to use your notes and her power points on them. She tells you what is on the midterm and final and the one paper in the class is very straight forward and easy. I would highly recommend taking this class if you need a social science.
Take her if you get a chance! Easiest class here! She tells you when the quizzes are going to be and you can use your notes and powerpoint on them! Besides quizzes, all we have is a midterm, a short paper, and a final. Ms. McDonough is awesome!!!
Very easy A. In class quizzes after each unit, usually, but you can use the powerpoints on them. Only a midterm and final, both straight from powerpoint/ review sheet material. Just go to class to take the quizzes and study the powerpoints for the exams and an A is very easy.
One of my favorite proffessors. Course is well organized. Gives pop quizzes but they are open note. Go to class because sometimes she will leave material out of powerpoints. Always available to help with papers or questions. Take her!
Pretty easy professor. Course consisted most of a single midterm, an extremely easily graded research paper, and a final. She gives pop quizzes, extra credit, and discussion grades almost every other day in class. The course isn't hard but it is definitely one you won't want to miss very often. Ex. I showed up and got an extra 2 points of the final
Great professor. Very funny and approachable. Paper is graded very easily. Class is super interesting so you'll learn lots of new things. Midterm and final are straightforward. She tells you exactly what is on it. Some quizzes but can use notes. Powerpoint are posted online. Attendance wasn't taken but you would want to go.
Great teacher! Lectures are interesting, and she usually lets out a little early. She explains what is going to be on the tests well and grades the paper easily. Attendance is not mandatory, but she gives open note pop quizzes and often even gives extra credit for attendance.
Pretty easy and interesting class. There are pop quizzes (open note), a research paper with straightforward guidelines, and two exams that you can easily get an A on if you actually use the study guides she gives out (its mostly just vocabulary). Overall, its an easy class if you need it for a gen ed requirement.
I really enjoyed her class, her humor is a bit out there but just go along. GO TO CLASS! She will give pop quizzes and extra credit! Also speak up in the class, I missed 2/3 quizzes that she would normally just give a 0 for but she let me make them up because I put in effort. Tests are easy!
Literally if you have to take SOC2010 take it with her. You don't have to go to class, you don't have to buy a book, there's two tests, a final, a paper, and three quizzes that's it, no homework. You get extra credit for going to class, it's awesome. If you put in minimal effort you will get an A. AND she is really nice and willing to meet with you
This class was great and more importantly interesting! She gives a couple of quizzes, midterm, final and a paper. She does give a general study guide for both the midterm and the final. She keeps the class engaged!
This class only consists of a few grades (paper, midterm, final, and 2 quizzes) so there aren't a lot of opportunities to recover your grade if you do bad on one thing. This class only consist of lectures, and attendance is not taken so many people rarely show up. She is very accessible outside of class, but her lectures are boring.
Shannon's pretty chill, but honestly she can be a mess at times. The class isn't hard, and can be interesting at times, but I normally did other class work during her lectures. Don't procrastinate on the research paper and make sure to pay attention to slides, because sometimes she'll purposefully not put all the information on your set of slides.
Professor McDonough was a great professor for SOC 2010! The class is only based on 2 open-note quizzes (take 3, drop 1), a midterm, research proposal, and final but if you put in some effort to prepare for each you'll be fine. You get extra credit on the exams for going to class sometimes (so GO I got 10 points added to my final exam grade)!
Loved this class and professor!! I've taken two of her classes so far and am planning on taking another ASAP. Her classes are graded by a midterm, final, and one paper, as well as a couple open-note quizzes. She makes lectures as interesting as possible by adding current events and studies, and is extremely chill in class. Take this course!!!!!!
This professor is awesome! I had to take an intro to sociology class for my major, and I really loved this class. You are graded on 2 tests, a final, 4 open note quizzes (drop one), and a research proposal (super easy short paper). She is hilarious and an easy grader. Attendance isn't mandatory but gives extra credit randomly for going.
Attendance wasnt required and you can still easily get 100 on the tests. Would recommend taking if available. Easy class to balance schedule
Really quirky, sweet lady who was always laughing at herself during lectures. Good class to relax in if you have a hard schedule, but you still learn interesting things. Tests weren't hard, and the one paper was graded very easily so it was a grade boost. Attendance isn't mandatory at all, but show up on rainy days and right before break for EC
very interesting character. she's always laughing to herself and its really funny but she does teach the material well. Go TO CLASS, extra credit on final if you attend, and points will be deducted if you dont go a lot. Recommend if you need an easy class to satisfy a Gen Ed requirement.
Boring lectures full of stale jokes and unnecessary information. All powerpoints are posted online. Attendance isnt really mandatory as long as you miss under 10 classes, but I honestly dreaded this class and had no motivation to go.. ever. Take another CCA
Not a very interesting class. The material that is heavily discussed in class often doesn't match the information on the test. Attendance isn't really mandatory but your attendance is graded. Easy homework every other week and only a few tests.
I would not recommend this class to anyone. I did not need it for my major but was told to take it for the elective credit. This turned out to be my HARDEST class. She is a tough grader and doesn't give any feedback. Available outside of class but barely offers any advice or help. The tests do no match what you learn.
Class is easy, tests are exactly like her study guide and really not that complex if you have any background in basic bio or medicine. her jokes are a bit stale but she gets a laugh out of the class from time to time, very little work required just show up and press your clicker
This professor is really boring, but it's easy. If you have to take sociology I would take her. I never paid attention in class and still got an A.
Sociology 2010 is an easy A. Attendance is mandatory because she takes it on the iClicker as well as asks participation questions each class. The class is all lecture and you really have to pay attention to do well on the tests. She gives out study guides for each exam which are helpful.
One of the nicest and most caring professors I've ever had. Really truly cares about every student and their success. Super enthusiastic and passionate about the class. Kind of over focuses on simple subjects so don't need to pay attention in class. Must study for exams and her study guides don't always accurately portray what will be on exams.
I never paid attention in the class and still got an A. Just do your homework and study little bit before the test, you will be fine.
Learned a lot about drug addiction and drug policy. Lectures and review sheets provided made tests easy if you are not lazy and pay attention. Paper is also a grade boost if you read and follow directions. How some people failed papers and tests is beyond my comprehension. Only explanation is laziness and incompetence.
The easiest class I've ever taken. You need to go to class to get the iClicker attendance points, but I'm not sure how much it would affect your grade if you never went. Powerpoints are available online, so I just used those to fill out the review sheets b4 the test and I got an A. Don't forget to do online homework, very easy but counts a lot.
I would say shes not the best teacher. Class sucks and is such a pain to go to but is a really easy A. I have gotten an A on all the exams plus she rounds up... and I show up for class most of the time but when I dont I just give someone my iclicker. literally if you get a B in this class its your fault bc its so easy.
Second time taking this prof, shes really good. Class is her reading off slides and some videos. Topic is interesting and she does a good job explaining. Assignments are very easy and tests are as well. Tests may only be so easy because she gives a stellar review sheet for every one and the slides will get you there. A+ would take again
Class is mandatory & VERY boring. I had a hard time listening to her speak, she seemed to be all over the place & was just hard to listen to. I never paid attention in class, but you have to go to answer iClicker questions that count for participation. I studied the powerpoints & review sheets before each exam & did fine. Do online hw too!!
This class is an easy A. Her powerpoints are online, study the review guide she makes you before the exam and ALL of the examples she goes over in class. The homework can be annoying to do, but you don't really have to read the chapter to do it. She curves the tests a lot. There is one project that is super short and easy and is 15% of your grade.
Take this for an easy A. There are only three exams and they are only 15%. iClicker and online textbook question are also important. Follow her study guides and study the power points and you'll be fine. You can get a lot out of this class without working that hard.
Be sure to attend lecture because iClicker questions are taken not only for attendance, but review of content. She gives thorough study guides for the three exams (final not cumulative), and sometimes gives extra points for a curve. The textbook is required for Pearson REVEL HW, but all info on tests comes from lecture. She's super caring!
Lectures are kind of unorganized and all over the place, but she posts all of her powerpoint online. The tests are straight from her study guides which is info from the powerpoint, so you don't really have to pay attention in class if you just study the powerpoints and study guide on your own.
She's great but sometimes gets a little off-topic during lectures. Sometimes lectures get boring but the quizzes and exams are straight from them. There is a free textbook used but I barely used it. She's accessible outside of class and will def work with you to understand the material. I would take her again if given the chance.
So easy. Buy the online access so you can do hw assignments, but no need to do readings. Lectures are long with iclicker quizzes, one short paper, and she gives study guides for her tests. She's really nice and makes understands this is a GenEd class. Mostly common sense stuff.
Easy A. Just make sure you know all of the vocabulary for the exams and how to apply the concepts to real-world examples. The online canvas quizzes are not very difficult and there is not a lot of homework at all. We had one big research paper that was not very difficult as long as you did not procrastinate until the last minute. Highly recommend.
Shes super easy, never takes attendance because the class is huge. Lays out all the grades in the beginning on year. Quizzes are super easy and they arent timed so you can do them whenever. Literally the easiest class never woke up for the class.
She is great. I missed a quiz that brought me down to an F and she reopened it. Very lecture heavy but also easy going.
Professor Mcdonough was a decent choice for intro sociology. She had lots of lectures and 40% of the class was easy questions and quizzes. She gives lots of times for questions and explains well. The book is free but I never read it. Just review notes pretty good before test and you should be good. One paper at the end that was simple!
Easiest gen-ed credit class ever. Quizzes are done on your own time, attendance is optional and tests and research paper help your grade as long as you read the rubric and look at the review sheets. She responds to emails very fast and is lenient when you need her to be. She's an absolute gem and one of the best professors I've had so far.
One of the best gen-ed professors there are. Has a quiz for every lecture but goes over the answers during the lectures. Tests and Research Paper will help your grade if you listen to her instructions and study guides. Would highly recommend!!!
She was by far the sweetest professor I've had. It's a somewhat content heavy class but she doesn't make it hard to pass. There's a textbook but I only skimmed it. You're graded on 3 tests, a bunch of mini quizzes that she gives the answers to in lectures, a few module quizzes, and one research proposal. I only went to class a few times and passed.
Class is not mandatory, but there are participation quizzes so you have to at least watch the recorded lectures. Overall, this class is an easy A if you do the work. Tests are open book/notes, and are based solely on the lecture powerpoints so if you know the powerpoints, you'll get an easy A.
Super nice teacher but must actually learn material.
I simply don't know if you could get an easier college class than SOC 2010 with Professor McDonough. If you literally perform the BARE MINIMUM, then you'll get an A. Furthermore, aside from the class being easy, Professor McDonough is kind, caring, and accessible, and it's obvious that she wants her students to do well. 10/10 would recommend.
easy A, she's a little weird but funny and makes soc2010 interesting, exams are easy (just vocabs words and memorization), have to write one paper but everyone gets a 100%
SOC2010 with this professor was frustrating because of her disorganization on Canvas and in lectures. She's sweet but unable to communicate her ideas in a politically correct manner. She perpetuates stereotypes to describe cultures, political stances, and races. She's counterproductive and awkward in effectively communicating serious topics.
Professor is very nice and quick to respond to emails. However she cancels class a lot for personal matters and is very repetitive in her teaching style. The tests are open note and online.
Mrs. McDonough is amazing. One of the nices profs I've had and not too difficult. She is defiantly a bit harder than other professors but you genuinely do learn in her class. She gives lecture quizzes and takes attendance, not for grades but there is a zoom option. There is one short "paper" and you can exempt the non-cumulative final.
Good professor overall! Intro sociology is a lot of vocab, so if you're good at that, you'll be set. She does cancel class or set it to zoom a lot. All tests and quizzes are open note, open browser.
quizzes and exams are open note. just pay attention in class and take notes on the important things and youll do just fine. theres a research project at the end of semester, which seems intimidating, but its super easy once you get started. shes super nice and answers emails fast.
She is super funny and has a great passion for sociology. Easiest class so far at Clemson, but I could see it being more difficult if you don't have a background in social sciences. Exams are super easy to study for, but there are frequent lecture and module quizzes (that are also easy). She is great at simplifying complex sociological topics.
Prof. McDonough is absolutely amazing. I highly recommend taking her class for Sociology, she's so sweet, her lectures were interesting, and the way she teaches makes the content easy to understand. It's so easy to get an A and you don't have to do a lot of work. It was the easiest class i've had and would definitely take again.
Easiest SOC 2010 prof 100%. Super organized Canvas page and all of her tests are open notes. Gives lecture quizzes every day which are good grade boosters because she gives the answers in class. This was my least stressful class by far and there wasn't much work to do expect for the final project. Take her if you can!!
I loved my Intro to Sociology class with Professor Mcdonough. I was very rarely stressing over this class. We were not given any crazy assignments; however, there is one major research paper due at the end of the semester (it's not horrible). It is obvious that Professor Mcdonough loves teaching along with her subject, she's great!
super easy and very helpful
super nice professor, and easy class. Quizzes and Exams were open notes. Attendance isnt mandatory, there are just lecture quizzes due at the end of each unit.
Professor McDonough made intro sociology very easy. If that is what you prefer, she is the professor for you! I personally prefer my classes to be more engaging. She does cancel class or move it to zoom a lot. Lecture quizzes after each class and all assessments are open note, open browser.
She was nice and willing to help. Tests were open note but difficult. Finished with an A so I cant complain. Not a very personable professor but most arent
She was super nice but her lectures were a bit hard to follow, but it is an easy A if that's what you're looking for.
Class is extremely easy in content. There are a lot of assignments due to the biweekly lecture quizzes and module quizzes, but there are really no excuses to not complete all of them, they take about 5 minutes. Exams consist mostly of questions repeated from module quizzes and lecture quizzes, and if all else fails, quizlet alone can get you an A.
Would definitely take again! Made the class really interesting and had a good mix of traditional lectures and videos. Was also pretty funny. Not hard and would definitely take her for another class. Helpful in office hours too.
great teacher, good exempt final. Makes it a fun class, not super hard
She really is a great professor. The lectures are interesting and keeps your attention with videos. There are lecture quizzes that really help your grade that are super easy.
not a fan. she just spends the entire lecture reading paragraphs off slides that are already posted. I felt like I lost brain cells in that class and I love to learn and I was excited to take the class. It was disappointing and felt like a waste of time. She says um a lot, stumbles, and awkwardly laughs, it's clear she's not that confident...
She was really good at teaching, and you can tell she really cares about her students. The course wasn't too hard, and it's easy to follow if you pay attention. I'd definitely recommend taking her class.
Pretty easy class. Her exams are online and not on a lockdown browser, and the only other work you have are lecture and module quizzes, then a major research proposal. She is nice, but pushes her personal and political opinions most of the time instead of simply teaching the material. Haven't been to class since week 3 and still passed with an A.
Definitely would take again, very helpful, easy to understand, a little bit lecture heavy but overall was a good class.
a queen tbh. Syllabus says attendance is mandatory, but she tells you the first day she doesnt care. I went to class maybe 4 times all year. Exams are kind of hard but if you do good on everything else you'll be fine. She gives quiz answers in class so either go to class, or know a friend who goes to class and can give you the answers.
This class was so stupidly easy. I went to lecture only the first two weeks and ended the class with an A. Did not enjoy the lectures because they were often very boring and she input her opinion a lot. Easy class if you need it though.
Made a gen ed great. Class was optional, but encouraged to attend, and extra credit would be given to students for attending some classes. Opportunities for amazon gift cards when grad students would perform studies in class. Grades really easily, and no real homework besides quizzes, and the answers are given in class, so attending class helps.
I really enjoyed her lectures, she tried to joke with our class a lot but it was 8 am and almost no one came so it was a tough crowd, but she's funny. I would take her again if I needed another SOC class. Make sure to take notes!!!
Go to class up until you know you can exempt the final. She gives the answers to the quizzes in the lectures so write them down. Major paper is super easy. She gave extra credit to people who came to class if there was not a good turn out. I didn't go to class after I had my A.
She's very nice, and she tells us it's okay to not come to class. Although, there are lecture quizzes every class period, so make sure you either go often or you know someone who does.
Her lectures are always very clear and easy to understand. There is a short three or four question quiz after every lecture, but you have plenty of time to do it, and she gives you answers to the questions in class. Exams are open-note and she is very lenient with attendance. It's easy to get an A, and you still learn a lot in her class.
She is genuinely so nice, and makes the class as easy as possible. Once I forgot to submit a quiz, and had talked to her asking if she could just grade it with a late penalty, and she literally just gave me a 100. She's kinda weird sometimes but overall great teacher.
In all honestly this was an 8am class and kinda boring. All exams are open note which is cool and you get extra credit on the final if you just show up to class.
Lectures can be long but are very easy to understand, we are given lecture quizzes, which are pretty simple as she gives us the answers in class. Exams are open-note, and she makes you check in with an app for attendance. She makes class a lot of fun and it's an easy A, but you still learn a lot more than you would expect.
Professor McDonough is great! She is kind and truly cares about all of her students and their well-being.
Attendance is mandatory, you get 5 unexcused absences and after that your attendance grade goes down. She is very understanding if you email abt missing class. Exams are open note and lecture quizzes also everyday, but she gives the answers in class. Lecture at 8am can get a bit boring, but that is not her fault and she tries to make it fun.
The lectures were very annoying with literally nobody paying attention but the class overall was a breeze to get an A. Attendance isn't mandatory but she gives 20 bonus points to final if have perfect attendance. Quiz heavy but gives answers to in class that bump your grade up and the tests are open notes. Not an enjoyable class but an easy one.
I'd definitely take Prof. McDonough if you have to take this course. She posts the slideshows, makes all her exams open-note, and gives lecture quizzes every lecture, but provides the answers for you, so it's an easy grade booster (if you need it). The class is extremely lecture-heavy though, so you honestly might fall asleep in class lol
The class was very easy. The prof tended to read straight off slides and the content was extremely dense. She was very nice and seemed approachable but overall made lectures incredibly boring. Exams are open note and you get extra points on the final for attending class.
Easy class. Attendance is mandatory for you to receive extra credit. Don't have to pay attention in class to get a good grade. Everything is open note.
Professor McDonough is very quick to respond to emails and cares about her students. She is entertaining and will help when needed. Class is mandatory and can get boring but overall easy A and great professor.
My major has nothing to do with sociology, so I was skeptical coming into this class. However, I thought this class was very interesting and almost a breathe of fresh air from engineering! She is so kind and has lots of extra credit for just coming to class. Exams are open notes too.
Ms. McDonough is SO sweet! Her classes are very lecture-heavy, but as long as you take notes, you will make an A in the class. Exams are open-note! There is one project, but it is not difficult. The only assignments outside of class are quizzes, but they aren't hard. Go to class because she gives out extra credit! Definitely take her if you can!
This was my second time taking Professor McDonough, and I love her! She is very sweet, and wants her students to do well. This course consisted of open note exams, open note quizzes, a few discussion boards, and a few writing assignments. Lectures can be long, but the work was very easy. I would take her all over again if I could!
Take her if you get the chance! She is so nice, and her class consists of open-note exams and quizzes, so it's easy to keep up with. There are two paper assignments, but you can use the first to build up your second. Be sure to take notes during her lectures so you can have stuff to reference during the exams!
She is great. Knows what she is talking about. All exams you get a cheat sheet front and back. She provides a ton of feedback on research proposals which is amazing. Nothing to complain about!
Professor McDonough is very caring and tries to make her class interesting even though most people take it to fulfill gen ed requirements. Attendance is "mandatory" but you're allowed 6 unexcused absences before your grade is impacted. Every lecture is recorded on zoom. Lecture quizzes pull your grade up and exams are open notes.
Professor McDonough is a great professor! She gives you a front and back cheat sheet for all her tests and gives you all the answers in class for the lecture quizzes. She cares a lot about her students and is very nice and forgiving.
Great professor, super easy class. She cares about students and is passionate about the material which shows in her lectures. She wants you to be interested in the material but recognizes that sociology is not everyones cup of tea and lets you have a cheat sheet for all of her tests. Take her class if you can!
She was amazing I loved her definitely take her if you can! She allows a cheat sheet on every exam including the final
Shannon McDonough's SOC 2010 class was one of the easiest that I took this semester. The class is very lecture heavy but there is rarely any homework outside of class besides one super easy short paper at the end. Her exams are easy if you study the quizzes and lecture quizzes.
Professor McDonough's class is super easy. Her class is very lecture heavy and it can get boring but she is super nice and tries to keep everyone engaged. You get a cheat sheet for exams and there is no homework besides a research proposal project at the end of the semester. Would recommended taking her if you need this class.
She is good! I went to every lecture (but didn't pay much attention) and was still able to make an A in the class. Material is boring for an attendance mandatory 8 am, but she allows "cheat sheets" for every exam. One research assignment that is straightforward. Has lecture quizzes after every class but are still manageable without attending.
I adored her course. All exams are "open notes" where you can bring in a piece of paper front and back with anything you want on it. Had lecture quizzes after every class, but she gave us the answers. 100% recommend taking her course.
Amazing. I could not recommend her enough—one of the best professors I had. I would sit during office hours to chat about the class, the papers, and just in general. She loves participation and would appreciate it if people did. She's great. Take her class!
Ms. McDonough is an amazing professor! I loved learning about sociology and she made my 8am class exciting and easier to stay awake to. You get a note sheet for the exams and she prepares you well with practice questions during the lectures.
Would highly recommend! The class is easy and she makes it fun and welcoming. She makes it easy to approach her with questions and makes the lectures fun
I recommend Professor McDonough!! She is super sweet and cares about her students. The tests are 50mc and all super easy and straight forward. She also gives study guides that say what will be on the test. You can miss class 6 times with no penalty. Her lectures can be boring sometimes but just try and pay attention and you'll be fine.
Professor McDonough makes this easy A class really engaging. The lectures can be long, but she provides helpful quiz answers and open-note exams. Attendance is mandatory, but Unstuckstudy was a game-changer for study prep.
Her lectures are beyond boring and pointless, but attendance is mandatory. There are quizzes after each lecture, but she gives you those questions/answers in class. We had 3 exams and 1 minor project, but overall the class was really easy, she's just a boring professor.
Such a queen. Super easy to understand. Very straightforward. Super nice lady.
Ms. McDonough is a very sweet lady who is very passionate about her class. Her lectures, on the other hand, are very boring, and most of the time I zone them out. There are quizzes after each lecture but, they are easy. We have 3 exams and 1 easy project. She lets you bring a cheat sheet to the exams.
Lectures the whole entire class. She assumes you already know everything about sociology. For tests you can use one front and back sheet of notes but my friends and I all made sheets in like 5 point font with everything on it and would still get Cs on every exam, they are very difficult and majority of your grade.
I really enjoyed this class & her as a professor. Allows a cheat sheet for exams, pretty easy if you make a good one. Participation is a huge portion of the grade but many many options to get it. One paper that isn't too daunting. Takes attendance (can miss 6 days w/o penalty). Not hard to pay attention, interesting lectures. Highly recommend!
Lectures can be drawn out and pretty boring. But overall she is a nice lady and there is not much work outside of class at all besides the one paper we had to do. You get a full (typed or handwritten) cheat sheet for each exam. Not hard at all to make an A
Tests aren't bad at all
She allows you to have a cheat sheet, front and back, on her exams. She gives lecture quizzes every day, but she gives you the answer, so you make a 100. This helps your overall grade stay at an A or B, depending on your exam grades. Her lectures feel like forever, but you get 6 absences in this class.
She is an amazing professor if you show up and participate! Very lecture heavy but if you pay attention the exams are fairly easy.
really easy, class can be a bit boring at times
Nice professor but lectures were pretty boring most of the time. But the class is easy and the main grades are lecture quizzes (she gives the answers during class), 3 exams that you can use a cheat sheet for, and a research proposal that isn't difficult. Also some opportunities for extra credit.
Love her, great professor. The material is really not that hard and you get reference sheets for each exam. There is homework every lecture day but it takes around 5-10 mins, she gives the answers, and theyre like not due until later on so you have time to do them. Really just a grade booster and she also has extra credit. Very easy to make an A
