She is the best teacher! she makes sure that you really understand the material. She is passionate about teaching and is the only professor that really tries to learn names! She is funny too! It is a tough class but she is eager to make sure you do great! overall the best teacher!
This prof is really good. She obviously likes the subject. The class is tough so it's not a walk in the park - there is A LOT of material to learn. But if you apply yourself, read the chapters, learn the slides, and know her review questions you'll be fine. I worked very hard at this class but well worth it. I learned a ton. I'd take her again.
Dr. McQuaig is very passionate about Biology. She incorporates real world examples into her lecture and uses a lot of great acronyms, mnemonics, etc.. to help you remember key points. However--this class requires a lot of studying!! Do ALL the review sheets she posts online, attend class- especially the fun exam reviews (jeopardy style).
OMG! Please don't take her if you have a life! I had a 3 year old daughter and 4 other classes to worry about and this class took up to much of my time I started college during my junior year of high school and have 2 scholarships that will basically pay for any career I choose, but this class was the first I ever failed! with an F!
McQuaig is super nice and loves biology. She tries to relate back to the student and make it fun. HOWEVER, her test are really tough and look nothing like the reviews she gives so you are hardly ever prepared and study the wrong things. The test questions are abstract so even if you know the material you are still subject to fail.
This teacher is very clear in lab, and quite easy. Lots of extra credit available on quizzes, highly recommend this teacher.
Very knowledgable teacher. She tries to make her class very interesting, and gives chances for a TON of extra credit. HOWEVER, her tests are NOTHING like her review sheets. I felt as if her class was very confusing, and I didn't really learn anything. SHE IS A GREAT LAB TEACHER THOUGH! I would have just perferred a different lecture teacher.
Her review sheets didn't match her tests. If it was not for her curve, the whole class would have failed. You never know what to study or what to expect. Take a different teacher.
Awesome Microbiology Lab instructor (have not had her for lecture). Very helpful and clear with instructions. Read/study lab prior to class=easy or not=diffult/confusion; As in any other course your effort makes your grade...no surprises! I would recommend this professor.
Though she is young and passionate about the subject, the material she includes is off the wall. She provides chapter reviews, power points, and practice quizes, and yet they are all useless when it comes to studying for the exams. If you're looking for a good grade because you need it for a prerequisite, I highly recommend AVOIDING this professor.
BIO 1, If you want an A in the class you have to go the extra mile and do all the optional chapter review worksheets and chapter quizzes online prior to the exam because her questions relate to them. She is passionate about the microscopic world and extremely helpful, also she always posts exam grades with in a few hrs after the exam!which is cool!
Prepares extremely well for MCAT,PCAT,DAT or OAT. She's not easy, but very clear on what she covers. You eathier study it or you don't. Passionate, funny, all around great teacher. I took for bio I and micrio bio.
I had her for microbiology and lab. Dr. Mcquaig is extremely passionate about her class and knows her stuff. The subject matter is hard and you will have to study. No test reviews provided BUT she gives you the opportunity to earn a ton of extra credit, I earned 20 points!! Also grades tests using a curve!
She's a really good teacher. She provides a lots of tools to study for the exams. So do ALL the review sheets and practice quizzes. The final is optional.
I took her class while being dual-enrolled. Her bio(10am) lecture was interesting, if you wanna get a good grade study the power points, 90% of the tests come from there.. I wish she taught bio2..Dr. Mcquaig's the PERFECT prof, I got a B on her lab bc I'd just be done tired with my highschool day @ 2pm
She knows how to teach and is very clear about what she wants the class to know. I would recommend reading the book prior or after the lecture if you want a solid A+. Having some knowledge in chem would help a lot too. Before every test she does a mini review and a jeopardy game. Took her during the summer, would definitely take her again.
Professor McQuaig is very passionate about her job and she is a great teacher. Her tests aren't exactly hard. Her review sheets are very much like the test questions. There is just a lot of material to cover and it may seem hard but her class is easy. If you get a 70% test average you will end up with an 80% average with all the extra credit and hw
Had her for lecture & lab. Great teacher, very knowledgeable (don't let her good looks fool you! she's hardcore!) Lecture exams: study the powerpoints, review sheets, and review quizzes! Lab practicals: only midterm & final. If you show up and pay attention, should be easy! Unknown report: research, research, Bergey's Lab manual!
Great teacher, very passionate about Biology, and definitely wants you to succeed. The class is very easy if you do the HW, the exam reviews, and read through the book regularly to get an idea of the material. It also helps if you have some background knowledge from A&P and Chem. Highly recommend taking this professor.
She is AMAZING!! she's so passionate about Biology that she makes it fun and it helps that shes incredible beautiful to look at. I actually learned a lot from her class. Look over the Jeopardy reviews she posts before test and you should do fine. Homeworks are easy and if you forget to do it its ok because she goes over it before turning it in.
All I have to say is, download and save the practice tests that she gives you for each test. Study them nonstop. THESE will help you pass the four tests and the finals. The questions are pretty exact. you don't even really need to go to class. Just read the slides and study the practice tests. I wish she taught Bio 2 so I could take it with her.
She knows what she is talking about. I did not have to crack open the book, as a matter of fact I didn't even buy it and aced the class. She is very clear but keep in mind she doesn't give grades. She is a stickler on phones and talking while she is but that's for good reasons. Highly recommend if not her take professor Goergen
Gives EXTRA CREDIT!! Easy HW that's worth 1/4 of overall grade. Lowest test grade is DROPPED except for final exam. Review guides, but they are basically the PowerPoint slides. Study the slides and you are sure to get a B. Study the Practice quizzes because some questions appear on the exams. Only an easy A if you put in the time.
Prof. McQuaig is a good and helpful professor. Her class is pretty straightforward to get an A: Go to class, take notes. Read the chapter, along with her lectures and take notes, do her reviews and take the practice quizzes. She also gives very many opportunities for extra credit.
Dr. McQuaig presents the material in a way that is fun yet informative which makes it easier to retain. She has an incredible sense of humor and enjoys in engaging with her students about the course material. The exams are really hard and her study guides only cover about half of what's on the exams but she offers a lot of extra credit, I liked her
Dr. McQuaig is like any other young professor, it is her believes to lecture on everything possible in the chapter and only test on 25 percent of it. You gain knowledge but sifting through and retaining all that information ( generally 5 chapters) for a 50 question test is Unbelievably stupid. She did have her wedding our semester, and rushed a lot
She is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter. Not an easy A but she gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit. She grades on a curve. Exams were tough but you learn alot. You will pass if you use your study time wisely, especially if you work full time and have a family like me.
Dr. Mcquaig- Ulgrinch is strictly by her syllabus. Power-point slides are long and could be narrowed down. homework is randomly assign. She often forget to upload grades and you have to reminder her to do so, so keep all your work, just in case. 3 exams and final, lowest score dropped.
Dr. McQuaig is a WONDERFUL professor! She gives you everything you need to pass every exam. If you study the power points and practice quizzes, you are good to go! Her lectures are interesting and she goes over homework before you turn it in, so there is no excuse to not get 100% on ALL homeworks. She is an awesome professor.
Very knowledgable and presents a very well rounded lecture. Going into nursing, I am glad I took her because of all that I was exposed to. Honestly, if you cant handle this class, rethink nursing. Three test, lowest gets dropped, must take final. Lots of extra credit, work to receive it. Put in work if you want an A. I was taking 4 other classes.
She is passionate about micro but her class is challenging. Her tests are hard but she also provides study guides, practice quizzes and questions at the end of powerpoints every class so GO TO CLASS! Its a hard subject so you will have to memorize and study a lot! Tests are not easy. They involve applications but extra credits is offered a lot.
No lecture videoaudio to use during the course. I haven't ever had an online lecture class without a lecture. Reading the book and power points were the sole information given to learn the material. Tests were nothing like the quizzes, power points, or reviews. Only 2 students passed midterms and few passed final exams. Extra credit a must do!!!
this teacher is definatley hot. she is great at explaingng all sides of the variables in every problem. she really helped me establish a great apex for my strengths in biology. I definatley reccomend her for anybody that is in dire need for knowledge from this teacher. ps. dont be shy!!
BEST ADVICE, BUY THE BOOK! Text reading, PPT outlines, review sheets (covers material NOT in PPT), easy homework, practice quizzes, Jeopardy reviews. DO THEM ALL! Time mgmt is KEY! Ridiculous amt of ex credit, if you have the time! McQuaig: intelligent; passionate about Micro; interesting, funny, helpful. Doesnt tolerate texterstalkers in class.
Tough subject, good teacher
Great professor! Very knowledgable and enthusiastic in lectures. I don't get the negative reviews. She offers EC, exam reviews, and your lowest test is dropped. Tests aren't easy, but this is college people - study her powerpoints and reviews, do the HW, go to lecture. It's not hard to get an A in this class, you've just got to work for it.
I previously took Dr. U (then McQuaig) for Bio 1 and got a C which was my fault. I took her again for Micro and got an A! You get what you put into it. Tips: Record her lectures, scan her PowerPoint's, do the extra credit and homework. She makes you work for an A but if you study it is not hard. Love her! I wish she taught all my classes.
Gives Jeopardy style reviews as extra credit, interesting lectures, super fun class. Dr. U is funny, has awesome PowerPoint lectures, and makes a tough subject easier to understand. I took her for Microbiology over summer. She is tough, but if you show up and pay attention, you will pass.
Good professor, however there have been several students who complained about her moodiness. She seems to be a little too strict. Personally I would have taken her lecture in class instead of online.
Dr. Ulrich loves and explain the subject very good. Also, the tests are not difficult at all. No tricky questions or something she did not talk about. They are based on the PP slides. No need to buy the book. I took the class in summer and it was still way less studying than anatomy 1 and 2.
Not the easiest person in the world, but very easy practicals and quizzes. Easy A. I would take her again anytime, for both lab and lecture.
Easy teacher, however do not take online because she changes things like due dates last minute. She also reads her slides verbatim, and I feel like I would have learned more if I had taken her in class instead.
I would recommend NOT to take her especially if you're trying to pass this class. Her test are nearly close to impossible she does not curve. Very anal about grading discussions, and everything else. I don't know why some of these people are saying easy A cause thats definitely not the case. She knows the subject very well but way to tough.
Dr. Ulrich is an amazing professor. She has a passion for microbiology as well as teaching. Her passion for microbiology is inspirational and helps to motivate students to take the time to study and learn the subject. She is available for extra help if needed. Her tests are concept based and require students to study the material.
Dr. Ulrich is very passionate about science and that comes through during lectures. She expects hard work out of students so yes, her tests are very difficult. Analyze figures on powerpoint and obviously reading the chapters will help. She provides extra credit that can seriously save your grade.
Dr. Ulrich is a really nice teacher. She loves microbiology and is really passionate about biology in general. I kind of expected to learn more from an honors class; but, however, she is a very knowledgeable and helpful instructor.
Not the best professor, gives out zeros on discussion boards which is ridiculous, definitely worst professor, also very rude when you ask questions in class or by email, i don't need a professor that replies back with smart remarks every-time, because i am just a student and not as knowledgable as she is in the topic. NOT RECOMMENDED. DO NOT TAKE.
Genetics: Meh. She sometimes has an attitude. I liked the course material and she is knowledgeable... I honestly just don't like the 'tude. Seems to act like she knows more than you... which would make sense since we are in our bachelors classes and she has a PhD. But, read the book and listen to the lectures and you'll do ok. Participate too.
Be sure read the lab material before class, quizzes are easy but you need to study ahead. Lab report is most important grade in this class. good teacher overall
Dr. Ulrich has unrealistic expectations. She puts out these "chapter guides" that go into so much detail it is insane. For the disease chapters final the guides say you have to know the name of the disease, agent, s and sx, mortality, pathophysiology, complications etc. when all you really have to know is the dieases name, agent, and s and sx.
Took her for micro online- to save myself from sitting in a 2 hour lecture class twice a week. Definitely wouldn't mind doing it again, however you really have to dedicate time out of your day to complete assignments and listen to her recorded lectures. You can work ahead so that's a plus. Don't procrastinate and you'll pass.
She is by far the worst professor I have ever taken. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER.
Dr Ulrich is a great professor. Its a hard class but she gives plenty of extra credit and she explains everything very well. If you take her and you put enough time into the class, you will make an A but if you slack you will fail, pretty simple
This is the WORST professor by far! Her assignments are completely unrealistic, lots of discussion forums, quizzes, homework, and not to mention this class is on a point system so beware. Read her instructions VERY carefully because she will hold you to everything she asks example: 200 word discussion forum and you write 199 words you will get 0
Micro is a difficult class, period. Dr. U is VERY clear about the requirements of the class. If you can follow instructions well, be ready to ask questions, and dedicate the time to study then you will pass with flying colors. Dr. U is accessible and ready to help! There is a lot to keep up with but the extra credit was a big help! Great teacher!
Best online professor ever! Constantly communicated and has voice-over powerpoint videos on YouTube. The questions for each chapter and reviews can be overwhelming, but it helps to work through them (for the exams). Many opportunities for extra credit. Micro is super hard but Dr. U helped make it fun and easy. Would take her again in a heartbeat!
After reading these reviews, I was nervous about taking Dr. Ulrich, but she was AMAZING to say the least. She gives really great lectures and if you watch them over and over again, pay attention to her questions at the end of the lecture, do her jeopardy reviews, you should get an A. I had so many bonus points that I got over a 100 in her class.
Hands down the best professor I've ever had! Passionate teachers like her don't come around very often. I highly recommend!
I couldn't ask for a better prof! Even if you think cells aren't interesting, she'll change that. Some of these topics could easily be dry but she filled them with good examples and stories that kept them interesting. I also did research with her and it was clear she is passionate about what she does. HIGHLY recommend! Lots of hw, but all relevant.
The Best online I've had. Funny and inspirational . Easy A, if you apply yourself to the course content. 10 question quiz each week. Quizzes open, 4 discussion. midterm/final proctored.
She is very educated and follows up well with her students. She made things easy, I enjoyed this class. About 20 points worth of extra credit is available throughout the semester, midterm/final proctored and 2 other exams that are just online-at home. 10 q quiz per chapter (21 chapters), 4 discussion posts (200 words). Lots of work but possible.
I took Ulrich for online lecture, but her in class lab was amazing as well. She is very smart, though she can get a little sassy if you ask questions that she thinks are "dumb". Overall consists of a midterm/final (40-50 questions each), unknown report and about 14 online quizzes. Lab was always fun, I really enjoyed this class.
I would not recommend this professor, because especially for an online class. I basically had to teach myself. The power point slides were useless. She just read off them, like we don't know to read for ourselves. She didn't explain. She is unrealistic about her grading criteria as well. If 200 words required to write, and you had 199. you get a 0.
I took Dr. U for lab and lecture. Dr. U has potential to be a great teacher, she just does not want to be! Her classes are ALL self taught. She does not help, if you ask for help she replies with sarcastic snide remarks and is always talking to students like they are dumb. Her grading and grade break down are ridiculous.
She sucks as a teacher. She teaches and expects you to learn everything for her exams like you are planning on being a microbiologist. She is passionate and knowledgeable but doesn't understand this is a stepping stone class. She does give extra credit but its pretty much mandatory because of how hard her exams are. Would not recommend stay away
Excellent and exceptional Professor
Honestly this class is very stressful and she throws material at you and expects you to recall the smallest of information. There is a quiz each week with a discussion post every now and then. 4 exams that are extremely difficult. It is very difficult and I just wouldn't recommend it.
Took her for Microlab. Had a lot of fun in lab! You will need to buy gloves and a lab coat. Quizzes are easy and you get 2 chances on them. Midterm and final were pretty difficult. And one unknown project. She is a great teacher study reviews for the test and pay attention and you should do fine!!
Dr. Ulrich is the best professor of microbiology you can ever find. Lots of extra credit, all exam questions are based only on what she covers in her lectures, you can review online lectures as many times as you need. Highly recommend if you need an A.
I absolutely loved her- she cares & provides personal feedback! It is a lot of work, but there is also A TON OF EXTRA CREDIT- weekly! There are a lot of grades- quizzes, exams, discussions & project- plus reviews/study guides match up to exams (even using a lot of the same questions). Your grade definitely is up to you- study & you will be fine!
Took Dr. U online for micro lecture. Her tests weigh a lot and the questions are more nursing application/crit thinking rather directly reflecting what you study. Too many things to study from, I.e book, ebook, PowerPoint, recorded lecture, study guide, homework, questions at end of PPts. lots of extra credit but doesnt weight much after midterm.
I had a good experience and semester with Dr. Ulrich. Without all of the extra credit opportunities she's given, I could've gotten a C in the class. Can be an easy A if you put the effort into it. Lab report directions are complicated at times, and lectures are run over very fast (lots of content to cover). Overall, very knowledgeable, kind teacher
What a real gem, her teaching style was excellent. I must say even though its a hard class, she makes it fun. Lots of homework and the mastering is hard but she gives you soooo much extra credit that she wants you to succeed and definitely get an A, I wished I took her for lab as well. I really recommend her.
I absolutely loved taking this class with Dr. U! She was available outside of class, she responds back to emails promptly, but most of all you can tell she really cares about her students! There is extra credit available each week! You must be prepared to study in this class but it will be challenging yet fun if taken with Dr. U.
I was scared to take Microbiology because of what people have said about the class. However, when I took it with Dr. Ulrich it was super easy to pass the class and made it fun! She cares for her students and gives lots of tools to understand and pass the class. Yes you will have to read and study a lot, but that is expected in a science class.
Dr. U. is a sweet person, but her class is lacking. The tests are tedious, which we expect at this level, but not without proper prep. Her study guides were empty! There's an exorbitant amount of extra credit that wouldn't be needed if better sources were given. If you take her class, you're better off taking it alone in a semester.
Dr. Ulrich is a very kind professor and is willing to help with anything. It took about a day or 2 to get a response so if you're in need of immediate help, I suggest emailing ahead of time. The study guides matched up to all exams but the questions were clinical so study very hard! This class is difficult! The weekly extra credits were a big help!
BEST prof. EVER. She tells you at the start of the course that her exams will test comprehensive knowledge via critical thinking questions. The course is designed to prepare you for your career, not to memorize and recite definitions. She has MANY resources for learning the material and is ALWAYS willing to help if you are unsure of what to study.
Shannon is amazing! I took her for Micro Lecture online due to Covid and she really made the course worthwhile. This was taken during the Summer and i was still able to pass successfully! As long as you are attentive and take the time to study youll pass with flying colors. Shes really a gem with a wonderful personality :)
Dr. U is a hiden gem in the biology department at the Clearwater SPC campus. Just by luck I was offered her Honor's Micro class (w/ Lecture and Lab). My past professors have all highly rated her and so I gave it a shot. DON'T regret it for a second!! Dr. U really made the activities interesting, gives you opportunities to learn and EC each week!
Professor Ulrich is easily one of the best professors at SPC! I couldnt have felt more safe and excited to learn with such a hard class already. Take her if you get the opportunity! She will help you and inspire you!
Bit of a tedious class (but tbh what would you expect out of microbiology), but Prof Ulrich seems really nice! Definitely a class you really have to work and study for. I had her online, and her lecture vids were LONG. Provides extra credit too!
If there's anything you need to know about this Professor is that her exams have absolutely nothing to do with the empty study guide she provides. The silver lining is that extra credit is offered to help failing exam grades. The lectures are super long and there is a lot of work assigned weekly. Don't recommend having a full schedule w/ this class
Great teacher. gives great feedback. she gives opportunities for extra credit every week and they are simple pictures and easy grade. definitely would take again. uses mastering website but very easy A. Only has 2 discussion posts the whole term. Four exams total, but two are not proctored.
Professor Ulrich was the best science teacher I have ever had. She does an amazing job explaining hard concepts and will answer as many questions that you have. She wants you to do well but also wants you to learn all the information. Her passion for the subject also makes it super enjoyable to learn from. I could not recommend her more!
The study guides she gives are useless. They cover every bit of every chapter. She does not narrow down the material AT ALL. She expects you to learn the entire book, cover to cover. That said, she offers a lot of extra credit, and with the right study plan, it was an easy A. But "easy" as in I put in a tremendous amount of work for my A.
Professor Ulrich class was fun and easy with good studying skills. I heavily studied slides and passed with an A+. The slides are very long and does not condense information. However, she provides videos for explanation and for the 2 exams of the the 4 that were proctored she has a tutor go over important information using the exam question bank.
I was nervous starting this class and thought I wouldn't like it, but I actually love it now and found it useful for my nursing career. She has a strong passion for microbiology, loves to teach, is caring, gives extra credit and kept the class interesting and is funny. Thank you, Dr.U, you're the best!! Highly recommend you take her class.
Lots of extra credit. Master quizzes & regular quiz due weekly. 3 exams. Very easy for those working 40+ hr weeks. Definitely recommend.
I took her for the lecture & lab just this summer online [don't take any science course online & in the SUMMER...it's a work load]. She is actually pretty nice! Her work load is a little heavy in her lab compared to her lecture though if you like a lot of work, go for it. There's two PROCTORED exams, lab reports, and weekly extra credit.
Taking Professor Ulrich was an experience but in a good way. I was told to take her for micro because she was literally the 'queen' of the subject so I took her. They weren't lyin that's for sure. Anyways she has TWO proctored exams [midterm & final], some unknown reports for bacteria, and quizzes. I'd recommend her. : ]
Do not take her online micro lab! The amount of work that is required is crazy. The study guides do not help! There are multiple projects where you have to go and buy things to conduct experiments. Multiple quizzes, virtual labs, hands-on at-home experiments, two lockdown exams, including other miscellaneous reports and flyers/PowerPoint! Stay away
Avoid her micro lab at all costs! This 1 credit class will cost you. You will be burdened with an overwhelming workload. Numerous projects, the creation of flyers, quizzes, a midterm, and a final exam, all without any guidance. It is wise to prioritize your time and finances wisely.
Lots of work for half a credit. Stay away from her micro lab!
Please refrain from enrolling in her micro lab course as it entails numerous assignments, projects, quizzes, and papers for only half a credit!
Professor Ulrich's MCB2010 class was challenging but rewarding. The lectures are lengthy, but she makes the material engaging. Mastering the content requires diligent studying, but the extra credit opportunities and use of helpful tools like Unstuck study can make all the difference.
I took Ulrich for online lecture, not lab. Her online lecture is amazing. I took the 10 week course: every week was 2-3 chapters, an assignment for each, then next week, a chapter and an exam. Tons of extra credit offered every single week. Got a 77 on the final exam & my grade was still a 95. Offers a variety of forms to learn the content, 10/10
