She's a cool professor, but be ready for her drive by quizes!
shes a cool teacher but she makes u work for ur grade and when i say work for it i mean work for it
No Comments
Teacher is very clear and percise on her expectations. Class can be fun. With all the work in the class, it should be worth more than 1 unit. Teacher is the hottest teacher at Consumnes.
Don't EVER miss a class from her course. She is strict on time and attendance. Other than that, just make sure you STUDY, STUDY, STUDY and you will do fine. She is very DETAILED on SPECIFICS. GOOD LUCK! She's kinda' gothic, hehehehe, but she's really cool!
Ms. Vellone knows her stuff!! She is a great instructor and keeps the class exciting! If you want a good grade... STUDY her powerpoint presentations as well as take good notes on the bones!!! Studying is key in her class because there is A LOT of material that she covers. She is REALLY HOTT too!!!
This teacher is not easy she is HARD. This is not a 1 unit class it is a 5 unit class. You have so much work it is incredible. Also, the class in once a week and she does not completely cover the material. I do not recommend her unless you are a Anthropology major with 12 units load. I took 16 units and her class; it was impossible.
This professor is strict when it comes to time, test taking etc. Dont miss class, and be prepared for her test, they are hands on so make sure and study. She is a good teacher, her lecture style reminds me of when I was in grade school, but thats good cause I need info pounded into my head.
Are you kidding me? This class is worth 5 units not 1. The labs are easy, but the quizes and tests are ridiculously hard. The teacher is cool but she needs to give students a break. Class is very boring. It is a lab but there is alot of lecture. Don't take this class if you are taking over 14 units and if you cannot waste 3 hours to be there.
This class is not easy, but if you pay attention, show up for class, do the assigned journals, and study for the tests you can do well. Not an easy A, but not an impossible one either. Tests are multiple choice.
I loved her class! It made me think about a lot of stuff that I otherwise would never cared to think about. Pay attention and participate and you will do fine...
P. Vellone is one of the best professors at crc. She is extremely helpful and nice. She goes out of her way to help students and is very passionate about what she teaches, she goes over the materials until it is crystal clear. Her tests are a bit difficult.. but study and you should be fine.
just started her class today, what can i say, wasnt expecting the beautiful woman that stood before us. if the class is the hardest one at crc it wont matter because she is easily the hottest teacher i have ever had
She comes off scary at first with a lot of expectation. But she is very helpful and nice. She gives you powerpoint notes and goes over everything. She also offers extra credit. Don't miss class and you should be fine.
I took the LEC portion prior to taking the LAB, very very helpful professor, knows her subject like no ones business. Tests are easy if you pay attention in class. If you dont understand she would be more than glad to go over to make it crystal.
awesome teacher. my favorite teacher I've had so far. makes the class interesting and gives plenty of visual aids and very good at answering questions.
"Dont be fooled by this Lab being only 1 unit." She was right. This class isnt hard, just interact with the materials given to u. Go to class, most notes on D2L. Read assigned chps & do the HW. Ur given plenty of time to do it. ALL this helps w/ the TEST! Plus its pretty interesting. Shes nice understanding & helpful. You only fail if you dont try
Best teacher I've had so far at CRC. She's really nice, and keeps the topics interesting. You can tell she loves anthro. Very fun, knowledgable. If she makes a mistake on a test, she'll give you free points. Offers to help on papers. I actually got 100% on one of the exams. Actually makes me think about switching majors to anthro. LOVED!
LOVE HER!! She is very helpful. Gives notes/powerpoint on D2L that helps a lot on test. She's very passionate about what she teaches. Not into science but she made the class interesting & fun.
TEACHER WAS AMAZING AND CLASS WAS AMAZING. DEF RECOMMEND. TOOK SUMMER CLASS SO IT MIGHT BE DIFFERENT FOR FALL OR SPRING. DISCUSSION POSTS ONLINE. TWO ESSAYS (VERY EASY). TWO MIDTERMS. VERY STRAIGHT FORWARD.
I didn't buy nor read the book and I passed with a very satisfy grade and so can you. Her lectures are thorough and clear, it's mandatory to attend if you don't buy the book. LOVE the online discussions, challenge your perceptions and mind. Overall, she's wonderful!
Agree with the person below me...looking 4ward of taking her again 4 ANT 301 course this fall 10!:)
She is very good and have a very sufull lecture all her work on D2L u don,t have to take note
She is vey exciting. Her classes are fun and she just keeps things straight forward. Plus I think she is kinda hot!!!!!!!!! lol!!
Classe are mandatory. She grades you based on attendance, quizzes, group work, tests, 1 reaearch eassay, and other random assignments. She basically convinces you evolution is key to everything and talks about monkeys the entire semester. She also gives out extra credit. Just listen to the lectures and you should be able to pull off an A.
She said this would be the hardest one-unit class you would ever take - and she was right! However, the class is not impossible. If you study hard and show up every day, it is perfectly possible to earn a good grade. She is very helpful and will answer any questions you have.
Great professor and extremely help full. I look forward to coming to her interactive lab class. Some people say they feel its a hard class but just show up, do the work, and pay attention things will work out just fine.
She's cool, not too hard and the lectures aren't terribly boring. Hw is low and tests are generally quite easy.
The class isn't that hard. We have a book quiz every week. Sometimes we have homework but they aren't terribly hard. The tests isn't that bad as long as you study and pay attention to her lecture notes.5 page research paper. The class is based on a point system.I would recommend her if you want to take an Anthro class
I like Prof Mills anthro class. She explains her lectures clearly.we have group essays but it's not hard at all. Exams are descent to do.The class is based on a point scale but she give a few extra credit incase you slack in the beginning. She's a pretty easy grader on the paper. Theres some homework and allot of reading in the small book
Way to much work for a 1 unit lab. Tests are hard - you have to write everything out which means you have to memorize everything (no scantron/multiple choice). She's very unclear on what she wants in your answers and is a hard grader. Not to mention, she's very misleading on what she's going to test you on so you go into tests blindly.
Professor Mills is a great teacher who wants her students to succeed. She is very clear on what she wants and is a much better teacher then Paskey. Professor Mills is a more approachable teacher and a more fair grader then Professor Paskey.
I love her! She reminds me of zooey deschanel. But overall, this was actually my first A for the 2 years I been going to school. Shes a awesome teacher, and I looked forward to going to her class today. Teachers very well, and will help you anyway you need to. Yes it is a lot of work for a 1 unit class but some other labs are 1 unit as well.
She is very enthusiastic about her field. The lecture material was presented in a way that kept it interesting, and the use of the iclicker kept it engaging. There are 7 weekly quizzes, 3 tests, a 5pg paper and three group papers (in class, open notes). If you put in the effort, it's a fun and easy course.
Amazing professor! Extremely helpful and passionate about the subject. She made a boring subject very fun and now I'm considering changing my major. Taking the lab 301 class at the same time is also very helpful. P.S. She is really hot!
Lab is very fun. Highly recommended. I genuinely miss that class. It's not hard to get an A and you'll love going to the class. Out of 7 classes I took last semester, ANTHRO 301 was by far my favorite. Taking the lecture class at the same time also helps a ton.
Take this class! Dont be scared because some subjecys or sections are tougher than others, because Professor Mills does her grading where points could be made up in other areas such as hmwk packets (which is an easy 100%. Really hard not to get an A-B in this class, but go to every class! Hands on, so attendance is a must!
Her make science worth learning. Her mind-and-wit out do her face-and-body and that hard to do! She makes you look past her good looks with her teaching skills.
shes awesome! i had her for both lab and lecture nd i loved her classes! her teaching style is amazing and she makes the class really fun. she changed how i feel about anthropology. plus the fact that shes eye candy is a definite plus. definitely take her class. i would take more of her classes if it could fulfill some requirement but i cant.
I took my Physical Anthro class in 1981 and this lab in 2011. Although it is recommended that you take both at the same time, my 30-year gap in classes did not leave me at a disadvantage. Her lab manual followed the lectures and she thoroughly covered the course material so anyone can understand it regardless. Great instructor!
She's an amazing professor if you show up to class. The lab is very hands on and she tries to explain everything as best she can and does so very well. I loved the class and will take her again. Plus, it helps she's pretty damn funny so people don't fall asleep. Mills knows every in my classes name as well which makes it a lot more personal.
Professor Mills clearly loves what she teaches which makes the class fun and engaging for the students. You have to study more than other classes but it's interesting stuff. There are some graphic images so if you are squeamish Forensics is not for you.
Professor Mills is awesome! No doubt one of my favorite teachers. She's really interested in what she's teaching so she makes it a lot of fun. You definitely want to go to class because you can't always make up the labs. Her tests are really easy if you study. I highly recommend her class!
Prof Mills is hilarious......Definitely makes the class more enjoyable. For someone who wasn't very interested in the subject before hand, her excitement and knowledge were above and beyond...The lectures were extremely easy to follow. I'd def recommend her!!
Yes she looks like a hotter version of that girl in the show "new girl." And no she doesnt allow late anything. She is ruthless in that department, but overall easier/fun class. She is a little fast on her slides but its easy to understand. She gives out a study guide that helps alot. Tests arent difficult and extra credit given.
GREAT TEACHER. Does resemble Zooey Deschanel alot. Class content would seem boring but her teaching style makes it fun and interesting. I recommend her lab class. If you show up to class and do the work you will pass. She's willing to help out and make it clear if you have question.
She is HOT but when it comes to teaching not so hot from my point of view. She is not clear enough for me i guess compare to previous teacher i had. She does like monkey and apes but other than that all i can say is read the book thats it
nice teacher, relatively easy but studying was definitely necessary for tests. she does clicker questions daily and they do add to points. there is a lot of random facts and names that you will have to remember about certain primate species including dental formulas and dietary habits for each one. overall everyone pretty much stayed to the end.
She's tough; I love her. Her teaching methods are very effective. She provided fascinating films and a marvelous book to read. Everything I learned is relevant. She's funny, youthful, and easy on the eye. If you enjoy learning, you'll enjoy Mills' class.
A good teacher works with their students. Mills is not this teacher. If you have "life" come up last minute, she acts like it's a major burden to her to help you out. Good teachers know that some students will take advantage of them, but for the ones that need help, their understanding is invaluable.
You definitely have to come to class and she is strict about being on time. If you arent there on time, you can't turn in your lab work or take the tests. This IS college though, people. You should expect that.
You want to learn more about Anthropology, this is your class. You want easy A? Choose another one. If you hand in assignment late for just one minute, you get 0. Trust me just get one late assignment and your A is gone. You are sick? YOUR PROBLEM. Anyone can be flexible but not her. You will enjoy the class, but not your grades!
I really enjoyed her class. Everything was very intersting and enjoyable. I t was easy to understand her notes and to follow along with the material.
The class is very interesting. She is very strict but her lectures are fun and easy to remember. Highly recommended. Attend every lecture and Don't be sick on the day the assignment is due, like me, as no matter what, late assignment is not tolerated. I worked hard for an A but may get a B instead, but still happy with the class.
I took her lab, which is a 1 UNIT course, but she teaches it like a 3 unit course. Only extra credit assignment was a 5 page paper, for 20 points. Lab's were pretty easy, but tests were kind of tricky. She teaches one thing one way, but the tests wants you to know it front and backwards. Very hard to get an A. But cool teacher.
Prof. Mills breaks down anthropology in a way anyone can understand. Uses the iclicker to take roll. rare homework and no papers. All Power Point lectures and note taking is a must to study. great teacher, great class. recommended. 3 test including the final all easy!
I feel like i am doing pretty average work for a class i have NO interest other than to pass my general ed. Other people who are actually interested in the class write huge DB paragraphs and when i do an average length one she grades it like its complete crap. She needs to realize there are other people who are not majoring in anthropology.
Class is interesting, Professor Mills is awesome! Requires iClicker. Attend class, do the reading and the assignments, and you'll get the grade that you work for.
1439995 It's not really a difficult course, all you have to do is study & pay attention. & it's not true about her not wanting to help people. Mills was always extremely clear and continuously offered us to come into her office or lab hours for more help. But it is true that she is extremely hot if you need some convincing to take her class haha
She is a great teacher. I loved the book that was assigned for us to read. It was so interesting! Takes her a couple of class sessions to update grades because she takes the time to give each individual person feedback. There are 6 essays and a research paper. Pretty lax grading style. I got an A on everything I turned in.
She's a very cool teacher. She has a passion for what she teaches, and that shows in her lectures. She sometimes has to speed up through the class, just because there is so much to cover. The assignments and tests are easy enough, and she is accessible if you have any questions. You can't go wrong with Prof. Mills.
I loved Professor Mills! So far, she is currently the best teacher I've had. There is a LOT of material to cover, but it's all very interesting and she makes you want to learn! If you do the work and read the book you'll get an A. She gives you the grade you deserve, which is fair. She also looks like Zooey Deschanel, thought i might add that.
A fun teacher with a unique personality. Labs can be fun and she makes the material fun to learn also. Nothing to difficult about this class. 4 exams, 4 packets, 4 quizzes and 1 project. Overall not terrible and would recommend.
I was really skeptical about this class. About two weeks I was looking forward to going to class. I loved her teaching style and her lectures were really interesting. Workload consisted 3 minor papers (1-2 pages), 1 term paper (5 pages), 2 quizzes , and 3 tests and couple of worksheets. Do your reading and you'll be fine! Take her if you can.
One of my favorite classes! Mills is very helpful when it comes to all of the work she assigns. Textbook reading is mandatory. A lot of tedious work - not an easy A. Overall fun and enjoyable class! Just be sure to actually try in the class and you'll survive.
I LEARNED A LOT FROM THIS CLASS AND I ENJOYED IT. PROFESSOR MILLS WAS REALLY COOL. COOLEST PROFESSOR I EVER HAD :)
I absolutely love Mills. She is very engaging and passionate about her subject, plus she is pretty funny. Keep up with the reading, pay attention to the lectures and you will pass. Don't expect to get by on extra credit, and expect to earn your grade. Also she doesn't really do study guides, and the ones she does are very vague, so know your stuff.
OK IN THE BEGINNING OF THE SEMESTER I WAS SO SCARED AND NERVOUS FOR THIS CLASS, BUT PROFESSOR MILLS IS ACTUALLY REALLY NICE IF YOU MEET HER AND TALK TO HER IN PERSON! SHE COOL AND FUNNY AND NICE. IF YOU READ THE BOOK AND COME TO CLASS AND TAKE GOOD NOTES AND ACTUALLY LISTEN AND DO GOOD ON THE ONLINE QUIZ FOR PRIMATES MEMOIR THE CLASS IS EASY B OR A
EXAM 1 EXAM 2 EXAM 3 AND FINAL IS EXAM 4 WHICH IS JUST ON THAT CHAPTER AND SHE LETS YOU USE A FLASH CARD ON FINAL ; READ PRIMATES MEMOIR AND BOOK, SHE A COOL FUNNY NICE PROFESSOR BE THERE IN CLASS WE HAVE CLICKER QUESTION IF U STUDY AND TRY AND LISTEN AND BE THERE EASY A LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT IF U ASK HER ABOUT AN EVENT THAT IS ABOUT ANTHR0
I loved Anthropology so much and cared more about primates after having her. May have taken way too long notes but those notes helped me a lot to study for exams. Recommended!
Great teacher! Definitely would take her again. To pass you need to show up to class because there are labs everyday. Tests are pretty moderate-hard, but passable. You need to study in order to pass. Overall great the teacher would highly reccommend.
She is an interesting professor who truly cares about the subject that she is teaching. If you go to class and take notes, then you will pass with a good grade. She enjoys it when students engage during lecture and does not mind repeating herself until you get it. Take her class if you are given the option.
She clearly cares for her students and is clearly shown in everything she does. She is passionate about anthropology and makes sure every student understands the concepts being taught. The atmosphere is comfortable and easygoing though it is essential to read the book and take good notes, it is overall an easy class and would definitely take again.
Definitely not an easy class but it was really enjoyable and if you're willing to put in the work, she's willing to help you get the grade you want. She's super knowledgeable/really knows her stuff
She is probally my best Professor yet. I'm not huge into scince, but she made it interesting. Grades and work were very clear, there was no question about when somethng was due or what the expectation was. She was soooooo helpful too and knows what she is talking about and is passionate about it.
Has open ended assignments that allow you to really talk about your viewpoint on topics, but if your viewpoint doesn't match hers then you won't be getting an A or even a B.
Prof. Mills is so amusing and her lectures keep you engaged with her clicker quizes. She requires two books, the class textbook and a reading book. The reading book is absolutely mandatory, the textbook however isn't used as much as she says. Most of the information you would get from the book is on her powerpoint slides.
Prof. Mills is an amazing professor. She is very passionate and is always willing to help students. Be prepared for multiple assignments and papers! If you pay attention in class and do the readings, you will be fine. She tests mostly on material that is covered in class, attendance is a must!
Mills was an amazing professor, never a dull moment in the class! The content, readings, and movies are super interesting!! Loved it!
Took her Summer ANT310 class and it was absolutely fantastic. She has a pretty good and beaming personality and I really enjoyed her energy and passion for the subject. The homework, tests, and work is very straightforward. Homework is pretty easy and the tests are directly from her lectures and the assignments we've done.
Prof. Mills can't really be described with words. She is an amazing person and professor. Her lectures are amazing, she's funny and she has a clear expectation from her students. Read, participate and just go talk to her, you'll love her! I took her ANTH300, ANTH301 and ANTH303 and would take all my ANTH classes with her too!
I've taken her three times. Good teacher, really passionate about what she teaches. Attendance is mandatory, but her lectures are so good it's worth coming to class. She's very funny, and genuinely wants to help you succeed in her class. Would take again.
Very sweet and funny professor. I've taken her twice. Attendance is mandatory if you want to pass but her lectures are the amazing part of what she does. Bring an icliker to class and be prepared to do pop quizzes. Also be prepared to write a 6-7 page research paper on any monkey or ape of your choice. No baboons or chimps or you will fail.
Before taking ANTH 300 with her I figure this class be more fun and from the look of it, I was right. I took the summer course and it goes super fast. There will a lot of reading and writing assignments along the way. Their is a potluck project and you can bring a dish of your culture and write about it. Overall fun class and great professor.
Would not recommend her. She marks you down on hw and when you ask her why you received that grade she can't even explain why. This class is supposed to be an easy A but she made it harder than it had to be .
She is fantastic teacher.
She is a good professor to take. What I like about her class is that is structured really well. 4 exams, 4 quizzes, 4 lab packets to go along with the exams , and one project. You MUST come to every class or you won't pass. The vibe I have gotten from her was kind of like she did not like me but that is me. She is strict and can come across rude.
She is a really good professor. 4 quizzes, 4 exams, 4 lab packets, and one project. Gives out some extra credit. She is nice. Come to class it helps a lot! Study for the quizzes/exams. She is awesome.
I deeply enjoyed Prof. Vellone's class but the lectures and reading material can be dense, be ready to take lots of thorough notes. I benefited a lot from taking the online courses since I could pause the lectures and take the notes I needed to before she rolled into another concept. She's caring and attentive, and responds to emails.
I enjoyed her lectures, but you cannot speed them up (if that's a con). Lots of material to look over for our weekly discussion posts, but that was pretty much all we had to do for the class in a regular week. The tests and quizzes were not challenging as long as you took good lecture notes. She could have been better with giving useful feedback.
Do not take this class. She requires insane amount of work for a graduation requirement class. If she does not like your responses she will give you bad grades. I turned in all my work only to be given a C because she did not like how I described MY CULTURES FOOD in my project. Big ego and needs to cut some slack, students pay your wages.
Please do not make the same mistake as me and ignore the ratings passed in 2020. Vellone is not a terrible person, just not the greatest professor. The workload is ridiculous for the grades you might receive because she didn't like your response. The quizzes were challenging because some answers were not in the required content. Choose someone else
Easy professor if you keep up with the weekly work. Expectations are clear and due dates are always on the same day so its easy to keep track of assignments. Grade based on discussion posts, replies, quizzes, 1 midterm and final. Open notes; easy to get an A if you take good notes and put in a bit of effort. Professor is kind and loves her job!
I've paid quite a lot for this class only to receive the worst grades possible. Her grading criteria is insane and unreasonable. I've taken other Anthropology classes and let me just tell you they are way more resourceful and helpful than whatever this class is. Most of the times you will only receive a 4/10 but never will you receive a 10/10.
Vellone's class can be challenging, but engaging with the material pays off. The workload is manageable if you stay on top of the weekly assignments. unstuck ai was a lifesaver for quiz prep.
