very clear/straightforward. does not design exams to trick you. gives comprehensive study guide. fair. adds some anecdotal references for memorable examples and humor. highly recommmended
great teacher
excellent teacher. easy to understand. good sense of humor. great class too, highly recommend it. probably the best class and teacher i have this semester
A great teacher...shes makes the day fun
She was a very good teacher... and i didn't dread going to class ever. The one thing is, the material is very easy... so you dont really have to go to class as long as you can get the notes from someone else. But overall its a good class to take.
Best teacher I have ever had. Came across as a friend rather then a superior. Very flexible, easy to understand, clear, helpful. Very sweet. Makes every class interesting with movie clips, song lyrics and jokes. Not just a great teacher, but an awesome person.
True, Weaver comes across as a friend versus a professor per se. The downside of this is that the class (mainly obnoxious underclassmen) tends to walk all over her, openly conversing during lecture, answering phone calls, it's really quite ridiculous. The fact that Weaver does little to curtail this blatant disrespect aggrivates me to no end.
she wants you to do well- she gives extra credit, but its so hard to understand a word she is saying. i HATED going to class because she is so unclear and the class was so big. the topic was so interesting before i joined the class...while taking the class i hated it.
she's clear about what you have to know for the exams - she even gives you a study guide. if you know everything off of it, you'll do fine. she's extremely fair about grading and drops the 2 lowest application activity grades and even gives the class many chances with extra credit. definitely take a class with her! :)
She is an amazing teacher and should truly consider being a standup comedian because she is hilarious. I would recommend any class taught by her.
Would have been a great class if this lady could stop saying "SORT OF" after EVERY WORD. You think professors who say "um" and "like" a lot are annoying? You haven't experienced life with Weaver. Not only does this nonsensical phrase undercut her degree, but it actually prevented me from being able to concentrate. Take HDFS with someone else.
Ugh I am retaking this class she is the only one teaching so I really have no choice but I hated her and found it hard to concentrate in her class. Read the book, go in for extra help, and study the study guide even though i disagree with everyone else knowing everything on the study guide is not good enough to do well on the test. So read.
She was a great professor. She was also very funny. Dr. Weaver also gave extra credit for showing up to class one time. She is also very helpful in preparing students for exams. She has study sessions before the exams and tells us everything that will be on it.
Weaver is an ok professor. She speaks very fasts repeats herself a lot and constantly says sort of. To me the most interesting parts of her lectures are when she talks about real like examples. Constantly is reading off of and referring to her notes. The class has a lot of content, a lot of studying is required.
Nice lady. Basically easy to pay attention too. Exams are not as easy as I thought them to be. You need to do the reading because theres online activities every week. The exams are mostly on the lecture but have a few random questions from the book. Says "last but not least" a lot. Very nice person, but just an okay teacher.
Her study guides are helpful, and she gives out a lot of extra credits. There's a good amount of reading involved, but lots of the content is common sense. THe class is focused on "breath not depth" as she said.
okay, so she tells some jokes and talks about sex pretty openly. HOWEVER- DON'T let her little jokes fool you. If I had a dollar for every time this woman said "sort of," I'd take that money and buy her a speech therapist. If you have to take this class, brush up on the reading terms for the exam. Go to extra help. Study up. Good luck.
She has a lot of energy and so she keeps you awake in class. There's a lot of information but you can use it in every day life. A great class.
Although she did kind of talk fast, she wasn't impossible to understand as long as you paid attention. She's a really nice lady with a lot of energy. The exams are extremely easy. As long as you go to class, and do the reading, anyone should get an A. This is a really good and easy gen ed course.
Excellent professor! She talks a bit fast but is more than willing to repeat anything if you just ask her. Really nice. Gives clear study guides for every exam, so as long as you know everything on the study guide, you'll get a 100 on the exam. Great class. Highly recommend!
Relationships was an interesting class, she gave extra credit twice during the semester if you were at her lecture that day. She holds review classes but the best part about her is she gave a review packet that covered the exam completely, nothing was left out of it. Have to study, but A is definetly attainable
Very sweet, definitely interested in her field, talks a bit fast but very clear. Go to lecture, she gives exam hints. Good class!
She talks extremely fast and you will have to ask her to define her definitions for key terms.
Reading the book is very important. She will put up a study guide for every exam, which if you study carefully should be enough to get a good grade, although you still have to look through the book for bolded words. A lot of material and a lot of work, but worth it. Also she does an in-class extra credit assignment.
She talks way too fast, and says "sort of" after every word. the study guides were absurd, and the textbook was a $200 pain.
She talks very fast and says sort of a lot, but is understandable. She outlines exactly what she will ask on exams and presents the material in an interesting way. You need a copy of the book for the online reading quizzes and for material not explained in class. An easy A if you study everything on her studyguides, which can be confusing.
she talks fast but will repeat if you ask. her study guides come out to be 20+ pages typed, so they aren't useful although she says they are. I studied for this more than my biology class, which shouldn't be the way it was. It was an okay class, but it's a lot of memorization because thats all this is about
I understood everything we learned in lecture, but the exams are impossible! I study so hard in this class but her exam questions are so tricky! I wouldn't recommend taking this class even though she's an ok teacher.
Irritating. Her quiz & exam questions are often poorly worded, she tends to give awkward or insufficient definitions in class. Too much expected time dedication for a 1000-level. All multiple choice, which is inappropriate relative to the material (more of an essay type of class, or at least half & half). I felt obliged to warn others here.
She does talk way too fast and often has to repeat the lengthy definitions. But overall her class is pretty interesting, but you have to really study to do well on the exams.
Lots of material and the study guide is frustrating b/c it doesn't narrow down anything; in fact it adds more material from the book. Lecture is bearable but there should be more real-life application. I felt like all I was doing was memorizing useless definitions and facts. Soo much studying has to be done for the tests; memorize everything!
Terrible class. So hard to follow with excessive amount of assignments. She doesnt even teach the main class, the TA's do it all. The assignments are tedious and never-ending. Would never take it again and wouldnt have taken it if i didnt have to
Terrible lecturer. Too much outside coursework for a 1000 level course and she is not very helpful either. I would not recommend taking this course with her. I didn't gain anything from her lectures other than that she's frequently unprepared and scattered.
Doctor Weaver was overalll a great professor who helped studentdo well. She made study guides for all exams. She does not put anything on the exam that was not on the study guide, therefore it is your own fault if you don't recognize material on exam. She gave extra credit for showing up to some lectures. She is enaging and course is interesting.
Absolutely awful. Extremely unclear and provides very limited help. TAs teach the class, you rarely see her. She specifies things that only should be discussed with her then never responds to your emails. Work is so unclear you lose unnecessary points here and there. Easy class, bad professor so the format is tedious and confusing. Grades SLOW too.
This class is kind of tough. Requires more effort than you might think. She talks very fast. Go to every class, take notes, DO THE READINGS, and study hard for the exams, because they're very specific and have a lot of short answer questions.
If you don't go to class she DOES NOT post the slides online.. just print outs of the overview and you're supposed to fill in the notes for yourself... really stupid considering all her lectures are slides. She usually gives long definitions not on the slides and she says them so fast that you can't write it. She says "sort of" every 5 seconds.
The books are very important. If she runs out of time then you may still be responsible for the material she did not get to. If you go to class then you should do great because she uses the same examples she says on exams. She says powerpoints are online, but it is actually just a rough outline of the powerpoint. She lets you argue for points.
Dr. Weaver is one of my favorite professors thus far. She has a lot of spunk to her which makes class interesting. Yes, it is important that you attend ALL of her lectures. However, she gives extra credit for attending class. Her exams are straight forward and she gives helpful study guides. Easy A if you put in minimal effort.
Professor Weaver cares about each and every one of her students. She tells stories that apply to the material and make it so the topics are easy to remember. You're responsible for online quizzes each week, but you have unlimited tries on the questions and they help with the tests. Tests are very fair and the class is easy if you attend.
She is one of the worst professors/teachers I have ever had. She doesn't use the book's chapters in her lectures, instead decides to make up her own version and split up her lectures into "modules" instead of going along with the chapters of the book. She goes off on tangents about her children and her Irish catholic family instead of teaching.
Took this class as a senior since I thought it would be interesting. I just couldn't believe how difficult it was to study for this course. Her study guides are obnoxious. Each question would have multiple questions within it. Literally no direction as to where to find the answers to said study guide. Studying for my science courses was easier.
She gives a lot of good examples in class. The exams aren't hard if you fill out the study guides and attend lectures.
If you have taken any psychology course this should be an easy A. Going to lecture is helpful because then you don't have to read any of the textbook. Online almost weekly quizzes are easy and she is a nice teacher.
She is an amazing prof. Very engaging and interesting. She presents material in lecture that is not in the textbook so lecture is mandatory but lecture is always worth going to because she is simply amazing. I would take a class with her again. The class presents a lot of material but as long as you are engaged it is not too difficult.
In the beginning, it was a hard time adjusting to the class. The modules outline the lecture and the study guides are very helpful for studying. You will do well on the exams if you study the study guides. There are a few extra credit opportunities and the online activities help your grade. Also, her lectures are interesting and engaging.
I am a senior and figured this would be an easy class, wrong! It is very very lecture based, book is only used for online quizzes, and slides are NOT posted. Studying for exams is nearly impossible, thank god for quizlet. She talks very fast so be prepared to write a lot and hope she decides to repeat that day. Nice woman, terrible professor.
Class is confusing at times, it is an online group project, and you receive no feedback on your project until the end and you have a week to fix 12 weeks of work. Grades come back slow and she is hard to get a hold of. I went about 3 weeks with receiving no grades even though we had 3 things due a week. The book is absolutely necessary. AVOID
Class is pretty straight forward. Lectures are given in class but aren't posted in class. Also, the lecture slides in class aren't filled in so you must pay attention and decide what is and isn't important. Study guides for the 2 mid terms + final exam are given. However, way too many questions. Besides that she is a very nice woman/professor.
Definitely, need the online textbook. Lectures are very vague; one slide on a topic in class an entire section in the book, so read. Lectures are good for examples through which show up on the test. Record lecture because she talks fast. Gives lots of extra credit and tests are super easy if you read and come to lecture. The material is logical.
Fasten your seatbelts, kids! Get ready for one helluva lightspeed lecture. Think of the parents in Charlie Brown talking but 10x as fast and harder to comprehend. I know more about her family than I do about the actual subject (not complaining though). But for real, I think she tries (and succeeds) at relating to her students! Take her class!!
class is not that difficult if you do the online reading assignments and study for the tests. BUT she talks 100 mph and doesn't post her lectures which gets super frustrating for taking notes in class. I don't think it is possible to take written notes as I can't even keep up with her while typing my notes. She also says "sorta" every 2 words.
She is very passionate about the courses she teaches but her lectures sometimes get really boring and difficult to follow along. A lot of the exams are based on the readings too which we don't learn in class. she also talks way too fast and during class, she reads off her computer making it very hard to learn. exams are also harder than u think.
Dr. Weaver gave us a lot of time and guidance on what she expected from the group project. There are weekly quizzes based on the readings that are pretty difficult but she gives a lot of extra credit at the end of the semester to make up for low scores. She also gave us an open-book, open-note final with a study guide.
The hardest online class I have ever taken. The assignments are doable, but you definitely need a book! Group project requires way to much work and she grades them very hard. And you won't get a grade on it back for more than 3-4 weeks. AVOID at all means.
Shannon Weaver is by far the best professor I have had so far. I think that she is funny and relatable. She teaches the class in a way that makes students feel comfortable asking questions. She is very down to Earth.
As I have said before, I love Shannon. She is amazing, her class is informative and easy. Love this lady <3
online textbook that she wrote, assignments every week (activity and a quiz) in class activities that will bring your grade down if you miss. online exams are timed and doesnt give enough time, have to go to class on exam day and teaches exam info still. Im failing a 1000 level course as a bio major and junior, always says um and sort of.
Shes a nice person, but not a great lecturer. However, you should go to class because there are random graded activities and exam material only covered in lecture. She uses her own online textbook that you need for homework activities and chapter quizzes(which can be retaken till 100%). Exams are online and open note, same with the final.
Professor Weaver gives a good amount of work, but is all pretty much based on competition and should be an easy A. All the homework and quizzes add up to count as another test so even if you don't do great on the exams the homework will really boost up your grade. All tests are online and taken out of class. She drops two lowest quiz grades.
online assignments weekly but are pretty easy, open note tests
Dr. Weaver made class interesting by sharing examples and occasionally videos of relevant information and studies. The textbook is written by her so the information is very relevant to what we needed to know for exams. The exams were all open note and online. She wants her students to do well and constantly told us to value sleep and self care.
This semester was the first semester we did online exams. you can use the textbook and notes during your exam but she makes the tests lecture based. But during lectures she goes over about three slides a class so you have no notes in lecture. The the exams are super specific about one thing she mentioned in class. Not the easy A you think it is.
Her lectures are scrambled and we will go over like 3 slides per class. Shell stop in the middle of a sentence and go off on a tangent and never go back. Online activities and quizzes are easy, but I would never go to lecture if it wasnt for the weekly in class activities because its impossible to actually take notes and pay attention
literally so boring and there is way too much information for an intro class. I was excited to take this class but im just happy it is over. The online exams are very specific and don't assess your knowledge of the information. you have to attend lecture or else you will fail the exams.
I did not really enjoy attending Professor Weaver's lectures. She spoke very quickly, went off on tangents, and often confused me. I only went to lectures because she would give random quizzes some days. The online work came from mostly the book and the online readings. The class was easy but not my favorite
I'm not even three weeks into the semester, and I'm already crying my eye's out from this class. It is SO HARD. Matter of fact - the HARDEST class I have ever taken. The work-load is insane, and I am easily spending 5+ hours completing the reading, assignments, discussions, and group projects for it weekly. Wouldn't recommend it to ANYONE.
Her lectures are unbearable. She speaks so fast and goes on tangents. Way too in-depth for an intro/GenEd course. The exams are oddly specific, but there are study guides to help know what to study. She wrote the textbook herself and it's grammatically incorrect everywhere. HW and quizzes are pointless but boost your grade along with extra credit.
She talks very fast and slides only include bullet points so you must show up to get all the info. There are several opportunities for extra credit but exams and HW are fairly easy. Must get the book in order to to the embedded HW and quizzes after each chapter. She drops the 2 lowest scores for HW and quizzes. She likes to have students engage.
I enjoyed taking a class with professor Weaver overall. She is very clear and straightforward and knows what she is talking about. Lots of extra credit opportunity. She always tells us to value sleep and our well-being first, and that anything with class can be worked out!
Dr. Weaver's very nice and approachable, she's not hard to get in contact with. She talks very fast and is often hard to keep up with. She wrote the textbook herself, which has all hw assignments and quizzes attached and you're forced to pay the $90 for it, which sucks.
I loved this class! For an online class, it's quite easy. But be prepared to read 1 or 2 chapters, listen to lectures, and do a quiz each week. The class is a P/F grading system, so essentially get above a 70 on the exams, do all of the other assignments, and you'll get an A. The class itself is pretty interesting too; I definitely recommend it!
Such an easy and informative class. All you had to do was get over a 70 on all three tests, quizzes, and reading assignments and you get an A. Online layout was really easy too.
It is very easy to pass this class, though at times there is a lot of work to do. The textbook is online and is one that she made, so it's free! Her personal anecdotes in lecture can be awkward at times, but they do help to understand the concepts she is using them to illustrate; they are rarely tangents.
i think its dumb we have to pay for a textbook she wrote but its whatever, idk why we have to read her book then watch her lectures that say the same stuff plus a few random facts hidden within that alwayssss show up on exams. pretty easy material just do the weekly reading (40ish pages) and youll be good, easy A
Professor Weaver is known for not responding to emails and demands that you only email through Husky Mail but then ignores those emails too. 90% of her textbook talks about irrelevant things in her life and the other 10% are definitions buried in giant paragraphs. Be prepared to watch 2 hours of lectures plus 15 hours of note taking per week.
Weaver is probably the worst professor I've had at Uconn. She demands in her lectures to make sure to double check your activity responses for grammatical mistakes but doesn't seem to do that in her own textbook writing. Also be sure to be on the lookout for a "good morning" email at 11pm through out the course.
Wicked easy class. She has a unique grading system so that you don't have to get all A's on exams to get an A as a final grade. Has a lot of activities that add to the final grade so it's not just exams. Lectures were recorded and uploaded. Very relatable and understanding.
Her lectures are really interesting, I always looked forward to going to class. This course prompted me to become an HDFS minor and I'm taking another class w her next semester. Her grading is really fair and as long as you pay attention you'll get an A. Only annoying thing is paying for the book that she wrote, but hopefully they'll change that.
Professor Weaver is one of the only professors that actually just wants her students to succeed. I forgot to attend class for a good two weeks and honestly my grades are doing fine. The work is consistently the same so as long as you are on top of it you will be fine. Both quizzes and assessments are taken online, very low stress class.
Easy professor. You don't need to even show up to get an A, just stay on top of the work. She is easy to understand and is very knowledgeable in her field. It is kinda sus we have to pay for the textbook she wrote, but she has resources if you are unable to pay for it. Accessible with office hours. All work is done online including exams.
This class should be an easy A. I literally only went to class the first couple weeks and still got an A. Each week is really repetitive so just stay on top of your reading and work and you should be fine. Overall though, when I did go to class, she was very passionate and cared about her students!
Class is wicked easy and only has about 3 graded assignments, which are all extremely easy. The only hard thing is the last day the teacher does a class where each student has to discuss something specific about the readings so just be prepared for that class. Other than the last day the readings are useless.
Very easy and interesting class if you put in the work. Definitely, definitely do the weekly readings before anything else. 3 exams with a 70+ needed to get an A in the class along with discussion boards and other assignments. I learned a lot of real-life applicable material. She'd often show up late though which got annoying but she's a solid choi
I took this class over the winter session and it was really straightforward and easy. She gets grades back to you very fast and its easy to get an A as long as you put in minimum effort and do all the work. Her grading is pass/fail, so as long as you pass all the assignments, you can do well! Also course material is super interesting.
Dr. Weaver was a great professor. Her lectures were optional, and you do not need to attend to pass. She wrote her own textbook, so almost all the information given from the lecture can be found in the textbook. Exams are easy since it is open note, most questions can be found in the textbook, and quizlet helps as well. This class was an easy A!
Its an easy class- a big part of your grade is 3 exams that you need a 70 or better on to pass. Pass all three on the first try and do some other assignments and youre guaranteed an A. I just found her annoying as a person. She came to lecture late at least once a week and talked too fast, and was passive aggressive. Take for an easy A tho.
Definitely an interesting class! Prof is nice, and posts lectures. Weekly reading with activities built in and online quizzes along with 4 exams. The work load is the same every week and is a decently easy class if you do your work. Probably took me 5 hours a week. She does grade bundles, so an A on an exam is 80%, and assignments are P/F
Easy A. The textbook is mandatory because thats where all the homework is, side note, she wrote it herself. The assigments and flipgrids can get annoying but you have the opportunity to make up missed work, the tests are open note, AND you really don't have to show up to lecture tbh. Quizlet will be your best friend for this class.
Her class is structured very well and her textbook is aligned very well with her lectures. She is also very caring and understanding. You can certainly pass this class and you can actually do well if you try and keep up with the readings and quizzes, take good notes and are familiar with the material.
She is such a great professor. Class is super easy and is graded on pass fail with lectures recorded. You are allowed to retake things as well. She gives a mental health break and gives you a 100 for everything that would be due that week. Great professor and class!
If you are interested in HDFS and think you want it to be your major do not take this class. It is so boring and she is a horrible professor her lectures are some of the most boring I've been to. The class is super easy though. Her TA's are unresponsive.
This was the most interesting class I've taken at UCONN, as it is about your own life. Grading is easy, just weekly assignments in online textbook and have to do 6 of the 12 flip grids for the semester. Exams are online, open notes, and usually has bonus questions. Very easy and interesting class, highly recommended!
It's a very interesting class and is very relatable and relevant info. She really cares about her students and their mental health. Gives opportunities to redo assignments. Have weekly readings, activities, flipgrids, and quizzes. Exams and quizzes online open note. She's a bit disorgnaized, but it's fine. Passionate lecturer
Easy A with low effort. Have to get over an 80 on a certain amount of assignments and quizzes and you get an A. Attendance isn't mandatory but make sure you attend a certain amount when she has in class assignments.
I barely went to class all semester, but all the exams are online open-book and can take whatever time of the day you'd like. Weaver and the TAs were very accessible, and it was very consistent with the same textbook hw assignment due every week. I don't have any complaints!
Super nice and easy prof. She is truly passionate about HDFS and lectures are easy and fun to follow.
Prof. Weaver's class is super easy, the content is fun and easily learnable. I haven't been to class in weeks but can easily pick up on the material. Quizzes and tests are EXTREMELY easy.... She's also super passionate about the material, and lectures are easy to follow along. Again, super easy course!!!
Professor Weaver clearly cares about her students and offers lots of options to receive a good grade (you can get extra credit she refers to as tokens that can be used to redo assignments and exams). She grades on a pass fail scale and there are 4 exams total along with weekly reading and one quiz. I highly recommend this class it's a great gen ed!
You have to buy her textbook. That's the only downfall I can think of. Overall, she teaches well and the course is easy. You read out of her textbook, take chapter quizzes at the end of each chapter and then take an exam a week later on a few chapters.
she uses a grading system where you just have to pass to earn an A, her exams are open note and pretty easy if you have good notes and study a bit. she is nice but unaccessible and doesn't answer emails. you have to pay for the specific book and take weekly quizzes, but its not hard.
super easy class - didnt go to lecture and weekly assignments were so easy. she is a little bit of a scatter brain and i didnt go to lecture bc she just confused me more than if i wouldnt go. shes not accessible outside of class- doesnt answer emails and grades slow but the class is so easy so its fine. clear grading criteria
Though Professor Weaver can be all over the place at times, the class is pretty easy. If you earn enough tokens you can retake any assignment, which are not took hard to begin with. Going to the lectures is definitely not needed.
Attending lecture was pointless since everything is graded based on the textbook. Make sure you attend Wednesday discussions so you don't have to redo them at the end of semester. Overall class was easy, but she loses points because she relies on her TA to grade the work and they can be pretty harsh. If you need a grade booster take this class!
This class was definitely one of my easier ones. Every week you have to do a quiz at the end of the chapter, which is online and super easy. She has a total of 4 exams, including the final (also not hard). She grades on a pass or fail so if you get below 70, you would have to re-take the assignment. Lectures are not necessary at all.
Professor Weaver was so caring and amazing. Her lectures were great, she definitely knows what she is talking about. The textbook is online and written by her so it is expensive however the quizzes and tests were easy and open book/note.
This is the easiest class I've taken at UConn. Attendance isn't mandatory and all the exams are online and open note, so as long as you've been reading the textbook (which she wrote herself) you will be fine. She grades in bundles so you need 70+ on 2 exams and 80+ on two for an A. She is very compassionate about her lectures but talks very fast.
I am not sure if it is just me but I did not like her personality and her lectures were incredibly boring. Class is super easy and straight forward, there are weekly quizzes and and all exams were take home open note. I would not take a class with her again but she wasn't terrible.
she is a horrible lecturer. incredibly boring. you have to buy the 100 dollar textbook that she wrote and it's full of typos. the class is stupidly easy. weekly quizzes and 4 exams that aren't all over quizlet. but they're open book anyway. lecture is stupid but she does in class discussions that you need 10/12 to get an A and they're random.
The material was very interesting but if you are someone who doesn't grasp things quickly than I wouldn't suggest Weaver. She talks extremely fast and tends to go on long rants. Moves through power points quickly. This class is a Pass/ Fail class, attendance matters due to in class assignment that don't always fall on the same day.
This is the second class I have taken with Professor Weaver and she is one of the most caring professors I have ever had. The class is extremely interesting and also very easy. Graded on a sort of pass/fail method that makes it easy to get an A.
not terrible but does not respond to emails or follow up if you discuss something with her in office hours that needs following up. lectures are boring and she talks extremely fast. if it weren't for in class assignments you wouldn't have to go to class if you do the readings. tests are not hard
I often found she was frazzled during lectures. Tests are pretty easy and straight forward, however she will add a lot of "as mentioned in class" questions. I was able to skip lecture multiple times and be fine. She does an in class activity every week which counts as participation that can be annoying. It is fairly easy to re-do things if need be.
Professor Weaver is a kind woman so please ask any questions once they arise! Personally, I didn't learn much in her lectures but you should still go because there are graded in class activities once a week. She curves the exams so don't stress too much about them.
Dr. Weaver is trying, but... she's just as scatterbrained as these reviews warned me. At least twice every lecture she'd lose her train of thought. The textbook (which she wrote) is equally bad, with lots of run-on sentences and spelling mistakes. But she's nice. Lots of busy work - in-class assignments, questions online, reading, quizzes, exams.
videos of your response to the question that week. class attendance is not mandatory. hard to reach outside of class. never closed one of my classes so i couldnt select classes for the coming semester.
She is extremely disorganized and does that thing where she takes the class teaches and then when she's running out of time she speed talks through the ends of her slides. Can't really access stuff out of class but you do not need to, assessments and quizzes are open notes at home, 1 in class activity per week but u don't know when it is going tobe
Prof. Weaver is really kind and friendly, but don't like the class. It's P/F & isn't really graded on much, but work is pretty easy and offers a few retakes throughout the semester. In-class assignments count towards you passing or failing the class, and never know when they will be. Go to lecture for credit and notes, slides not enough for quizzes
Prof Weaver is extremely kind and caring of her students. However, if you don't go to class, you most likely won't pass the class as the in-class assignments are at random. I know it's probably done this way to keep students coming, which I don't blame her. Just pick a class time that works for you and enjoy the class!
Mrs. Weaver is very knowledgeable on what she teaches and even gives personal examples of concepts in class to allow us to better understand the material. She has a very clear syllabus and really tries to set us up for success by giving us tokens to redo assignments/assessments on. Very approachable and always answers any questions you may have.
She knows what she's talking about and presents information in an easily-digestible manner. She's a bit quirky sometimes and can go on tangents often, leading to her lecturing over the allotted time. Weekly in-class assignments basically act as attendance, and they aren't great as they require you to group up with others in a big lecture hall.
Great class. Very interesting and fun to learn about. Weekly quizzes with two attempts, in class activities every week (sometimes unannounced). Exams were long and difficult, all about applying the concepts. Pay attention in class and do the reading and STUDY and you'll get an A. Does the weird grade bundle thing. Slightly scatterbrained.
I've had Dr. Weaver multiple times, she is very nice and so accommodating, but is also very scattered. Our first exam grades weren't returned for over a month. I always went to class to not miss anything she mentioned that wasn't on slides, and we had in class activities. Exams were difficult, even though they were open note.
This class was very interesting and she was a great lecturer. The hw quizzes and class assignments were easy. But her grading is unfair. The assignments and exams are pass/fail so you don't know your grade until the end. Your grade depends on the 4 exams. if you do poor on one exam, even if everything else is pass, you do poor in the class overall
Dr. Weaver is kind to her students, but tends to ramble on during lectures and there were many points I was a little lost to say the least. However, the class is easy and there's multiple components to your grade (although it is based on pass/fail). I would take a class with her again, especially because of her kindness and attempt at humor!
Very sweet and kind I love her. Class is easy and the lectures are short. Exams are online and open notes. The reading quizzes are graded off completion. Only headache is the discussion but those are pretty easy as well only that they're weekly. I recommend taking her she's great!
Very nice and the coursework is pretty straightforward. Three exams and weekly hw discussion posts with reading quizzes all online/ open note. Only complaint is that she cancels class a lot with minimal notice. Also can take a long time to update grades despite having TAs that help. Overall would take it again though.
Professor Weaver tries her best, but can be scatterbrained. Lectures are hit-or-miss, but the class is easy overall. The textbook could use some work. Unstuckstudy was super helpful for exam prep.
I loved this class and the lectures were cool but the lecture was 350 people and about 40 came to any given class. She does not post slides so you kind of have to come to class. She is super sweet and would take again. 4 assignments a week and 3 exams total. I feel like a ton of work for no reason but its easy I recommend
it's the next day after April. 15th, Professor suddenly spreader out the attendance counting sheet, even I finished up all the assignments , did well in exam, but I am wondering would this attendance count for Grades.:(, students still about 50 to 60, did she spread out this sheet before?
Dr. Weaver is super funny, very charismatic, and overall a very kind person. Attendance is not mandatory BUT there's person assignments once a week so go to class. She's a queen!! Exams are on lockdown but are not bad! You have to do weekly discussion posts on Packback but again super easy. She also gives tokens to retake exams or make up work!
Do not take this class if you have one right after, as Weaver is often late and always takes a while to get on topic. Not a great lecturer and often gets super off topic. Super easy class otherwise!
I loved Professor Weaver! This class was incredible and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to date or marry in their life. The homework is the same every week, making it easy to know what you need to do. She does not post her lectures, which I personally didn't care about because I always come to class. It was absolutely worth coming!
Eh. I think overall the content of the course is good and the assignments are straightforward. A LOT of assignments can be overwhelming, especially for non-HDFS majors. Was often late to class, or cancelled, or the TA set up zoom with her on the projector. But worth showing up to class because she often gave those who did extra credit. Mediocre.
Weaver was an engaging professor with a tendency to ramble and go a few minutes over lecture time. There were times when she could not be present because of unforeseen circumstances, and she would log on virtually. While attendance is not mandatory, those who went to class regularly received many extra credit opportunities.
Weaver was a really understanding professor as long as I reached out to her with any problems I was having. Her classes do have more reading than most, but the work and exams are relatively easy, even if you skim the text! Make sure to go to classes!!! Attendance isn't mandatory, but being there for in-class assignments (randomized) is!
Currently taking Weaver for HDFS1070, and her class has been nothing but a breeze to me. Lectures aren't mandatory, I haven't gone to one since the first week, just make sure you're on top of your deadlines or else you may be locked into a certain grade even while having an Advanced Pass on her assessments!
This professor is the worst I have ever had in my four years at UCONN. Her instructions are horrible. Even her syllabus is useless, although it is directed to you for the majority of your questions. Shannon should not be teaching anymore as you are not even learning anything. She just talks in her lectures, not making any sense.
She is a really sweet person. I personally did not really attend classes but never fell behind. There is sort of alot of HW if you're taking this as an elective like me. Discussion post & 2 replies, a 20 question quiz and optional activities every week, with 3 assessments. Overall pretty easy but time consuming. I would recommend.
very scattered & unorganized during lectures, only goes through 20% of weekly chapter in class. talks super fast & slides aren't helpful, take ur own notes on the textbook (that she wrote) for hard take home exams. stopped posting slides later bc ppl stopped coming. a lot of reading & notes w online discussion. avoid if not needed for ur major.
Honestly she is a nice professor but super disorganized. Took her for 1060 and it was much better. Grading is always late and there are a lot of videos and reading that you are expected to do outside of class. Attendance not mandatory, but adds specific details in lectures needed for exams. Online open note exams are the only plus of this course.
Prof Weaver is usually never on topic during lectures; I maybe went to the first few in the beginning of the semester and then never again. Tests are online, open-book, open-note. It's classified as "hybrid" as you have to submit a discussion post online by Fridays, but super easy. Everything is graded on a pass/fail basis too!
